imagine returning the horse boothill had been searching for all day after it got the chance to escape through the tall fences the moment they were opened, his eyes widen at the sight of his companion with you guiding alongside it. normally, his horse wouldn't follow after someone else's orders other than him... and it behaves pretty feisty and rough with people who isn't him.

boothill is relieved to see that his trusty horse hadn't been injured, briefly thanking you as he goes over to fuss over his stallion. you can't help your gaze wandering and examining his figure, in awe of the metallic and cyborg parts of the cowboy in front of you. sure you might've seen people having artificial and metal parts attached to them, but this man right here just plainly looks like a robot if it weren't for his humanly head.

boothill notices you eyeing every inch of him, glancing from the lasso that hangs at his hips to the pistols to his arms and to his legs. he glares a wolfishly smile at you, baring the shark-like teeth that you gaze in short surprise at, and asks in a teasingly tone, “like what you see, darlin'?”, observing how you blink owlishly at him. but then, he's becomes sort of surprised when you nod your head and confirm that—yes, you like his appearance and how the color scheme matches altogether, while indirectly  commenting how he's a good-looking cowboy.

boothill, after his turn of blinking at you, grins and narrows his eyes with an intrigued look in them; amused by you and how you don't seem in the slightest.. nervous or terrified in his presence. you perked the cyborg's interest.

finishing the small talk with the man, you mention that you'll be needing to go somewhere for an errand and boothill takes the opportunity to offer a ride there on his horse—as a thanks for retrieving his horse, taking in your surprised expression with a grin as he ends the sentence with a “darlin'”. he insists, even if you refuse, so you decide that it'll be quicker to go in a horse ride with the cowboy than rather walking by foot as you were given no other choice.

with boothill's assistance, you were boosted onto the horse and instructed by him to hold on as he looks back at you, flashing a toothy grin and a finger tilting his hat just slightly for a short moment before you and him rode off towards where you were needed to be at with his horse. startled by the increasing speed his horse was going, you instinctively grasp onto the cyborg cowboy's built body in order to not fall off during the ride accidentally—boothill grins at your expression, his laughter going with the wind, “better hol' on tight for now, sweetheart. this'll be a rough ride! i'll get ya to where yer headin' in no time!”

In season 1 thats literally the driving force of how eren manages to get hold of his titan powers. One of erens MAJOR motivation TILL the Last arc. This is A major part of erens CHARACTER itself. Honestly the fact Eren killed his all frnds himself is more than enough to butcher his character given who he was. His actions maybe unintentionally harm his friends BUT he WOULD NEVER kill his FRIENDS INTENTIONALLY??? Are you kidding me? Is this Eren you are talking bout? The guy who can give his life without a second thought for his friends??? Really?

2. Armin being picked over Erwin on Erens belief that he will be the savior of humanity: major foreshadowing and the point of RTS arc: completely discarded and thrown in trash can🤣what's the point of RTS then? (Tho I think it was handled not every well in canon, but EREN made SURE he remains true to his words)

3. Erens sayings and promises: like Armin being saviour, giving his friend a long life, wrapping the scarf around Mikasa (one of the major elements of season 2) completely discarded and no longer exists😂😂😂. Season 2s prominent scene is no longer relevant

4. Erens whole character. In fact u can't even associate it with season 4 Eren let aside pre teen eren because his core is completely changed. One of things of s4 eren is, he is not OPEN with his emotions at ALL which makes him seem very different because one of his defining traits is how openly emotional he is. Thats why eren stans (the ones who liked him since the beginning) including myself was confused. However getting deeper into it, we were shown moments where it was clear that eren was trying to hold his emotions in and maintain his built up composure e.g. when mikasa confronts him in marley attack, armin saying "the freedom to hurt him" during table scene, sashas death + much more. For instances we were shown him bout to breakdown. Along with that we were constantly shown his desires to grant his friends a long life. To erase the titans curse. To protect his people. These all are related to how exactly eren was in the previous season and by that we knew that in the core, eren is the same guy he was. He was always like this. That's how all humans are. No matter how much change they go through, in the core they will be the same. That is what makes them, THEM. HOWEVER in aotnr, erens core is no longer the same. his emotional volatility is not there. his friends are no longer important which literally discards the main elements from the previous season. He is a complete different person in the core. Thats why, that character isnt even eren. Thats why you cannot relate that character with the previous seasons’ eren at all unlike isayamas season 4 eren who is correlated with them.

5. EMA as the protagonists of aot: discarded. Armin and mikasa seems to play a lil bit tiny bit role but apart from that the whole cast no longer exists 😂but insignificant characters like Ymir and historia suddenly is😂😂

6. Ymir being the most powerful in their verse: discarded. Ymir being the goddess of aot world no longer relevant 😂. Canonically Ymir is the most powerful but at the same time incapable because of being struck in shackles of her own beliefs. Despite that she was still the most POWERFUL in their verse and everyone is aware of that. These two contradictory traits was handled well and didn't erase ymirs role as the founder and most powerful. in the fanon ending, Ymir is just a founder by name���bc instead of her, erenold is given the founders abilities???ymir is just reduced to a child struck in paths.

In conclusion u can't see aotnorequiem with aot as a whole. It's the completely diff narrative and has no actual base from the story so far (and I wouldn't even bother to say it if people acted like it's fanon but the way people think it fits into narrative is funny because it doesn't)

AOT No Requiem Fanfic Review Part 2

Disclaimer: I am not a supporter of ANR myself, so I knew that I probably wouldn't like most of what this fanfiction is putting out there. That being said, I decided to check it out anyway because I was interested in seeing what changes these people were planning on making. This review is not meant to bash the work or the team of artists and writers behind it. These are just my own personal opinions, and I will try to express them as professionally as I can without coming across as aggressive or rude, as that is not my intention.

After a four month hiatus, it looks like the popular fan fiction Attack On Titan No Requiem is back in action. I'm glad to hear that their creator is doing okay. Since this fan fiction covers the final three chapters, I'm splitting my review into three parts. The first one can be found here so if you haven't read it, you can check that out first. I kept it short and to the point and I intend to try and do that with the rest of these as well, so without further ado, here are my thoughts on the second installment of this short series:

This chapter opens up where the previous one left off, with a clash between Eren and Armin's ideologies, their discussion getting more heated by the minute. Armin still believes in a more peaceful way out of the situation that involves more talking and less bloodshed, whereas Eren sees no other options other than the path he is currently on. Fuming with anger now, Armin grabs Eren by the shirt and this is where the scene transitions to the rest of Eren and Historia's conversation from chapter 130. I still can't believe we were deprived of this in the canon universe, so I was interested to see if any of it would play out in a way that I wasn't already expecting. As it turns out, it did not. I was fully prepared for them to confirm or at least imply that Eren is the father of Historia's baby considering what theory this whole thing is based off of and that's exactly what happened. To their credit, they didn't make it as cheesy and overly-romantic as I was afraid they might, but it still could have used a bit more exposition and time to develop. I didn't care for what appeared to be a brief elopement scene in the woods, though. And was that supposed to be Floch officiating it? That's...just too weird for me. Sorry, but a secret wedding in the woods with Floch as the priest felt more like a joke to me rather than a serious event. I remember when most fans used to hate him, but that changed at some point and now he's quite popular. I can't tell if it's for the sake of memes or if people really had a change of heart. And just to be clear I have no issues with people liking him, I'm just a little confused as to how it came about. As for the whole pregnancy subplot in general, I don't think there's anything that can done to make me like it at this point. It came out of nowhere and it led to nowhere. It looks pretty clear to me that making Eren the baby father is the only solution that people can come up with to have it actually mean something and have relevance, which only serves as further proof to me that it never should have happened in the first place. Even if this team has something clever up their sleeve, I feel like there's only so much they can do to make it better, especially considering that they're only changing the last three chapters. To me, a much better handling of Historia post time-skip by Isayama would have involved giving her a chance to actually be queen and exploring her thoughts on Eren's actions and whether she would have allowed the Yeagerists to take over the island. We saw in the end that she did let them take over, but we're not clearly shown why. We also never found out why Eren was able to change her mind so suddenly regarding his plan and what made her decide to have a child. Not to mention that not once did we get to see her interact with the rest of the cast, which it doesn't look like will happen in this fan ending either. It was just her in that stupid chair and then the baby is born and that's it. I appreciate the AOTNR team's attempt to breathe some life back into her, but it still doesn't make up for all the missing screentime she had from chapter 90 onwards.

Moving on to the last part of this chapter, we see that after learning Eren's secret, Armin has had enough. He calls Eren a hypocrite for hiding what he did with Historia from everyone and how things could have been better if he just trusted them, but Eren is still unfazed. Armin asks Eren why he was brought back into Paths if it wasn't actually going to fix anything, and this is how the rest of the chapter plays out:

I like the way this cliffhanger is depicted. It shows Eren and Armin both as children this time facing each other, each with a determined look on their face while their adult faces shine in the background. It serves as a good visual representation of just how much things have changed between them since their early years and prepares the audience for a huge face-off outside of PATHS where everyone else is still trying to fight off Ymir's horde of ancient titans. Speaking of that, these two fan-made chapters have not given much focus to what's been going on on the outside, unlike Isayama's chapter 138. It looks like their three biggest priorities here are giving us Eren's POV, which we didn't get until the very end, Historia's POV, which we never got at all, and a final boost of character development for Armin. As a result, other important plot points are put on hold, such as what's next for Zeke and the rest of Eren's friends. This, paired with a lack of action sequences, causes the pacing to feel slow. Seeing where we are now, though, I'm assuming that it will pick up next chapter. And now that they've given Historia some much needed attention, I'm interested in seeing if they have any plans for Mikasa. There are a lot of people who strongly dislike her, so changing that perspective into something more positive looks like it's going to be a big challenge and I'll be very impressed if they pull it off. Overall, I thought this chapter was okay. It's very good for a fanfiction, though, and I'm glad that other people are enjoying it. I'll be grateful if it brings at least some level of peace to this fandom in the end, so until next time, thanks for reading ✌.

The Killing of Three Thousand Crows Recap EP 1 三千鸦杀

This drama has been a huge blast - I am 8 EPs in and the plot, characters are wonderful and refreshing. The main leads are a hoot themselves, being very hilarious and have their own unique personalities. Props to CGI and costume theme who does their best to make it realistic while in budget, in particularly the costumes feel so natural and pretty.

So just a brief introduction:

This is a Xianxia adaptation from novel of the same name. Xianxia = it involves immortals. Our heroine, Yan Yan, or with her adult/real name Qin Chuan (覃川) is a mortal princess of her country and it has been destroyed by the demon people. Her people are slain and she vowed to kill off each and every demon people to bring peace to her people.

The Male Lead is Jiu Yun (九云), a powerful young immortal who has a crush on her, and he has seen through her ten lives/ previous reincarnation.

We started off with our male lead, Jiu Yun and his friend. His friend ponders why he is sharing with him a drawing by his Shifu/Master and what is it about.

He replied that this was about a war where drums are beating, and bones anre piling up. He also said he didn’t understand the meaning of the drawing for thousand years.

The cinematography is pretty amazing and the narration done by Zhen Ye Cheng (yes our Male lead does his own dubbing along with Zhao Luo Si) is nothing short of haunting. The sequence is written in a semi-classical format, and its a thing of beauty when it combines with great cinematography, great colour combinations, great symbolism (eg drums that reinvigorate a dying party) , great prose and great narration. Look at her red robes flowing in harsh winter while hitting the drums. Maybe I should translate this part later :D

His friend retorted. “It’s normal for mortals to be in war”. He replied "I finally met her yesterday. I have been searching for her for a thousand years” while the screen switch to her facing her enemies alone. 

I presume she didn’t survive. Based on some notes on the novel this was her past life. Anyway I really dig these prologues as of late as its normally shot wonderfully and in a simplistic manner + introduce the whole thing.

The scene switched to an enormous paper bird flying down to a city.

I love the design of the paper bird. Its delicate. Can I have one for a Mercedes?

Our heroine slept at class, slacking off  from learning paper folding spells which is a secret skill of Dali royalty. He also scold her that she have already learn for a year but she knew nothing.Her Shifu challenges her to make ten paper crane. 

She could fight with Bai Qian with tardiness though what Bai Qian did is even more crayy

She defended herself that paper folding spells emphasize on making it freely/casually. Under her shifu threat, she back off, saying she can do it anyway, but instead she made a frog.

The sequence is amazing btw. The CGI is really on point here :D

The paper container too is delightfully designed. Along with the sunscreen panels at the background

The set design and the headdress. Its amazing. Look at the Peach blossom background :D. And I enjoyed her acting a lot. She displays the right amount of mischievousness here :D

Our princess met with her brother and to cheer her up,  her brother shows her a painting he obtained. She said the painting is fine but not worth two to three thousand coins. 

Yeap. It looks like regular drawing even from my POV. But I hope whoever drawing this is not offended T_T (based on TMOPB the artist will normally on set whenever their artwork is shown)

He asks her to look at it carefully. Soon the garden turns into winter, and winter plum blossom starts blooming, and sometime later it turns back to normal. She excitedly asks him where he obtains the painting. He told her he obtained it from the famed painter, Gongzi Qi (公子齐).

Cue hilarity ensured of Gongzi Qi being synonymous with celebrity, full-on with fans dying to have his artwork and to see him,  and her brother the prince being very excited to obtain one. While looking for the artist, a scroll appears on his hand and he looks both happy and confused.

Here’s how he describes Gongzi Qi:

Gongzi Qi, he was rumoured to be extremely handsome, with one of the kind drawing skills. He was rumoured to apply rare immortal spells to his artwork.

She muses that man is too proud. And if Gonzi Qi said his art skills are his second-best skill, then his music skills should be out of the world. Her brother said he wrote a song titled East Wind Peach Blossom Flower .. nope it's half a song not a full song (WTF XD) and he refuses to write the other half, saying that no dancer will be able to dance this song (I see you Gongzi Qi, you are tempting her). Indeed our princess is up to the challenge and asks her brother to request him to finish the song so she can dance to it.

The siblings then visit their cousin, where her brother advises her not to be rude. Apparently their aunt and cousin are attending their mom’s 40th birthday celebration.

After greetings and praises, the two women throwing barbs at each other, we know that Xuan Zhu (玄珠，the cousin) recently start to learn immortal skills under a mysterious teacher. Their barbs become a quarrel, causing their companions to try to rein them in. Yan Yan excuses herself. The quarrel continues as both are tugging a purple handkerchief. 

A man came in. Yan Yan seems to be jealous that this guy (Zuo Zi Chen, 左紫辰) seems to come here to visit Xuan Zhu. He clarifies that he is here on behalf of his father to see her cousins. She instantly brightens up and let him go. 

OK, first crush? And guy seems to be interested.

At the court, the King seems to be really worried about Tian Yuan, as they have usurped three countries around Dali. He is also worried as his prime minister Zuo (Zi Chen dad) applies for retirement at this time due to health. He announces that he will pay a visit to Prime Minister Zuo.

Our Prime Minister seems quite healthy (healthier than the king!!) and performs some ritual that's clearly demonic.

This is performed in front of a satan like figure. That's demonic even in Taoist book right?

Our prince got the sheet music, but with a bet from Gongzi Qi: She must be able to perform it, else he will make her a laughing stock. While visiting the prime minister, she took the opportunity to visit Zi Chen. She blocks him from visiting the king. Instead, she wants him to ask him something on the new music sheet she obtained since he is extremely good with music.

uwuuw the music sheets are so pretty

Zi Chen was amazed since he never saw such complicated tunes. There is a catch though. The verse she pointed out is rather bloody and will cause the audience and the performer to feel very sad, totally inappropriate for a birthday celebration. He answers the way to go is to change the tunes from a sad tone to a happy one.

Girl is clearly enamored with him and his skills. He turned around and ask whether his modified tunes sounds right. She thinks it's great. And she gifted him a hairpin, helping him to wear the new hairpin. She finishes pining the hairpin and touches his face. He reciprocates by grabbing her hand tenderly

OMG I must say this scene is so well done. Very tender, and little words need to be said.

After she left, his father looks for him. He looks anything but friendly. He asks whether he knew the reason the king came. Oh gosh, the prince is way too naive. His father is clearly plotting about something. But he is a young man in the midst of meeting his first love, maybe that's why he didn't catch on the shenanigans.

The Princess is totally unaware of the plot tho, she happily shares her joy with her maid, Aman and hoping for the day Zi Chen will marry her. She also declares that she will be able to conquer the tough music sheets and it will prove Zi Chen's musicality is superior to Gongzi Qi. 

At night Gongzi Qi visited her, leaving her a note. She wakes up and declared again that she will win their bet. Gongzi Qi hears her in the court garden and leaves with a smile.

It seems like the budget is spent on the prince wardrobe. His gear looks very natural and menacing ha. But the candles deco is totally inferior to TMOPB Ye Hua house. Maybe the Demon People are saving the $ for war?

Yan Yan dance is stellar, she interprets the music sheets beautifully, with peach blossoms,snow and leaves. The audience including her brother, Zi Chen, and Gongzi Qi are amazed.

Oh wow the music is wonderful. It reminds me of TMOPB EP30 Peach blossom scene OST - the warm and sweet feel kinda touch. And the dance is shot beautifully. Although I think some of the dance moves are done by a professional dancer? Not a problem imo since one of the most beautiful performances in cdrama history is choreographed by a dancer.

And YESSSS.... his wardrobe is really on point here and the angles the cinematographer take is really good. He is not your conventionally attractive lead so I understand that some angles will not stand out. Kudos to the production team!

The dance ended and Gongzi Qi was shocked that she changed the ending of his sheet music. HA, SO YOU KNOW SHE IS GONNA PERFORM AT HER MUM’S BIRTHDAY BASH PARTY AND YOU WRITE HER A BLOODY TUNE? lmao he is pissed and serves him right XD. And what's wrong with your bestie XD? He seems to have a tendency to pine after a married woman.

They met Shifu who seems to be their ShiXiong (Elder brother disciple). Shifu reminded Gonzi Qi that since he is an immortal, he shouldn’t involve with mortal matters especially when Yan Yan is still very young. Gongzi Qi asks if he insists on doing it? Shifu replied that her fate has been decided and he shouldn’t go against fate. He seems to accept that decree and he hands over a huge scroll of painting, requesting Shifu to pass it to her.

Note: The reason why Shifu is able to involve is that he owes a debt to the Dali Royal family per the book.

At night the city is being attacked, and Yan Yan wakes up feeling happy and refreshed. She saw the painting scroll, both her and her maid marvelled at the painting and she told her maid that she wants to go outside alone to visit Zi Chan.

Meanwhile, Zi Chan father sent his son away “ For praying in the temple. Do request for glory at Royal Court”. His son wonders as his dad will not need it because he is retiring. His dad replies smoothly that it’s for Zi Chan. Zi Chan wanted to pray for his father’s health, and his father praised him lightly, sending him away. Looks like he is sending him away for safety. 

COMMENTS

I have been waiting for this drama for some time, and luckily they are no longer stuck in broadcasting hell. This EP has a lot to unpack, introducing the background and characters. I feel this EP wonderfully introduces multiple characters while making Yan Yan and Zi Chan characters unique. Yan Yan character is sweet while slightly spoiled, she is still very charming herself, and have all the characteristics of a well-loved high born lady. Zi Chan too stands out as the highly ranked son, with his politeness and his crush with Yan Yan being really subtle. Plot-wise it is interesting and hopefully, the revenge plot won’t be too over the top later. The drama is also not afraid to insert some modern jokes (AHEM CELEBRITY ARTIST) while feeling super natural in doing so.

 The magic spells they introduce are fairly unique too (paper magic) which can be quite handy. The brief introduction of paper cranes and paper frogs are delightful. The costumes are delightful too. One of the difficulties of cdrama production is making costumes natural relative to the period and making it beautiful. I love Zi Chan wardrobe here because he looks great in it while not making him too prince-like. Likewise I like that Gongzi Qi wardrobe are slightly more fancier than a normal immortal /Taoist disciple (YEAH HIS WEIRDASS WAYS) but not that fancy.

I think one of the downsides for this drama is the set production. Some of the sets like the snow scene are totally beautiful, while at some parts its so obvious the wood is made of plastic, or the garden looks too tropical. That being said I understand cdrama fantasy budgets are tight + high likelihood of delayed broadcasting, so these downsides are relatively minor, plus the cinematography team is killing it, so I think in overall any fan of xianxia should watch it.

AnR grocery shop AU

Hi! So on the AnR discord server we have a discussion about a AU where all Class Black works in a grocery shop. So this is the result:

Yuri: District manager, barely never there.

Sumireko: Owner of the shop. Only started showing up each day when she met Banba. Only came so she can be with her.

Nio: Manager, does nothing, always make others work instead of her. Choose the worst people as employees just to make things entertaining to her.

Kouko: Assistant manager, but since she does all Nio’s works because thinks she’s the actual manager. When clients went to talk to the manager they are usually referred to her. Took her job really seriously but is often clumsy.

Suzu: Assistant manager, confused as Kouko’s personal assistant. Always follow Kouko everywhere, acting like everyone’s grandma.

Haru: Cashier. Friends with everyone, always nice with the clients, even the mean one.

Hitsugi: Cashier. Was at first a customer, but after meeting Chitaru, Shiena had a mysterious accident and Hitsugi was hired to replace her. Even if Shiena came back, Hitsugi is still working there.

Chitaru: Bagger, she often helps people to find what they need in the stores. She has a lot of admirers among the customers. She once helped Hitsugi when she was a client.

Shiena: Stocker, get herself into mysterious work accident very often. So she’s often hospitalized and it became worst since Hitsugi is her colleague. Admire Chitaru.

Otoya: Butcher, flirts with all the female customers. Have a different girlfriend each week that always disappear around the time of weekly meat shipment. Flirts with Haru, who thinks she’s just being friendly, Shiena who always tell her off, and Sumireko gracefully ignore her.

Tokaku: Do the inventory or restocking because she’s too grumpy to be with the customers.

Haruki: Mechanic, is called when something is broken in the store. Considered as a shop employee so much she’s there.

Isuke: No one truly knows what she does there, neither why she hasn’t been fired yet. Often break stuff just to have an excuse to call Haruki.

Banba: Janitor. Once Otoya flirt with her and Banba ran off in fear, knocking over a mop bucket, which Shiena later tripped over. Sumireko threatened to fire Otoya if she does that again.

Kaiba and Mizorogi: Old employee that often come to visit.

The strong survive. the weak are food.

The girl dashed through the forest underbrush, bare feet slapping the mud of the fresh rain. Behind her, at least three wolves. Maybe four? She was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Should’ve known better. Stupid to follow the smell of blood. Other predators had followed it too.

The snarl of the beasts behind her put a dark, crawling fear in her head, their teeth put air in her lungs, their long, loping gait sparked fire in her limbs. She had to escape, or she’d be food. Wolves were fast, stubborn, but not smart. The smell of water made her change course, turning to run across a small stream. Just big enough to wash the blood and mud from her feet. On the other side, she ran, and then leapt, hands and feet finding purchase  on the rough bark of a tree. With the snarling still behind her, she climbed until she was nestled in the leafy cover.

Should be good enough, she thought. The wolves came into view, teeth bared in anticipation. But at the other side of the river, they stopped, confused that the trail they’d been following had vanished. One by one, they wandered off, until only one wolf remained at the tree. Just it and the girl.

The strong survive.

She dropped on top of the wolf, catching it by surprise. She had to be quick, she knew. The neck was the easiest way to do it.

The weak are food.

The man that came to the forest was unlike anything she’d seen. He was small, but covered in strange, shining garments, and carrying a long, pointed stick. He floated a short distance from the ground, turning his head side to side as if he’d seen something interesting.

The way he smelled sent shivers down her spine. It was easy to smell which monsters were strong and which were easy prey, but this man smelled like no monster she’d ever met. It scared her.

“Are you just going to watch me all day?” he announced. “I don’t like the feeling of being stalked. Just come out.”

She couldn’t. He’d eat her up. There was no way she could do it.

“I won’t hurt you,” he said. “I promise. You can come out.”

She couldn’t. But she couldn’t leave, either. She was stuck like this. Maybe he’d leave, if she was lucky.

The man sighed. “Alright. I’ll come to you.” And then he did, too quickly for the girl to react. She fell over backwards, eyes darting side to side to look for escape routes.

“I’m not going to hurt you,” said the man. His voice reminded the girl of a fire on a rainy day. It made her want to get closer, though her body screamed to run.

“My name is Anre,” he said, lowering his weapon. “I had heard there was a terrible monster hiding in these woods. But you’re not a monster, are you?” He held his hand out to her. “Why don’t you come with me? The forest is no place for a young girl to be living.”

For the first time in a long time, she spoke. “Why?” The sound of her own voice surprised her.

“Why? What’s here that you’re so adamant to remain?”

“Ada... I don’t understand.”

“Just come with me. You’ll see.”

“Are you going to eat me?”

“Eat you?” The man laughed. “Of course not. If you come with me, you won’t have to worry about things like that. I promise.”

She could’ve stayed in the forest. She could’ve kept fighting. Every day, without end, fighting to stay alive. She could’ve stayed. But she took the man’s hand, and together, they took the path the girl had never thought to take. The path out of the jungle.

“Threo? Are you alright?”

Her eyes snapped open to the warm blue of the midday sky. They were just dreams, then she thought as she sat up, rubbing her eyes. The voice was familiar, it was from another of her crewmates on the Grandcypher.

“Of course I’m okay, Lyria,” she said, stifling a yawn. “Why wouldn’t I be? Are we under attack?”

“Oh, no! I just thought... Your face looked like you were scared. I wanted to make sure you were okay.” The girl pulled at the hem of her skirt as she spoke.

“Scared? Me? Never! You should know me better than that, Lyria! I was just... havin’ some weird dreams, I guess.” She rose to her feet, scratching at her chin. “About old stuff. It doesn’t matter anymore, but I guess it’s a little weird to see it again like that.”

“Were they bad dreams, Threo?” The girl in blue inched closer to her, eyes wide. “What kind of things would scare you, you’re so strong!”

“Forget it! I don’t wanna talk about it! Stuff that happened is in the past, so who cares! I want to focus on stuff that’s happening now!” On cue, her stomach rumbled. “Like, right now, we should go get some food!”

“Oh, I like that idea!” said Lyria, clapping her hands together. “Let’s see who’s around!” The girl in blue took Threo by the hand, and the pair dashed into the airship’s innards.

Threo wouldn’t have considered Lyria strong. But there was something else to it now, she thought. The weak didn’t have to be food for the strong if there was something stronger standing between them. Maybe Threo could be that thing. After cake, of course.
