Anubismon EX5-062 Alternative Art by sasasi from EX-05 Theme Booster Animal Colosseum
This Alternative Art is a reference to the Reference Book entry of Anubismon, according to which it is the Judge to decide wether or not a Digimon gets reborn as a Digitama.
A God Man Digimon that guards and supervises the Dark Area. It constantly surveys the Dark Area, to which Digimon that were deleted when their life span finished, or when they were defeated in battle, are ultimately transmitted (and are transmitted there despite Fallen Angel Digimon and their like inhabiting it). As for the Digimon transferred to the Dark Area, if their data is evil, it imprisons them within eternal darkness, but if their data is good, it has the ability to reset them back to a Digitama. It has power as mighty as to decide the rebirth of a Digimon, and furthermore, it has the role of the Digital World's judge. Its Signature Move is drawing a square pyramid with beams of light as depicted in Egypt's secret formulas, then imprisoning the opponent within it (Pyramid Power). Its Special Move "Ammit" is a terrifying technique that summons a demonic beast from hell, which devours the Digicores of evil Digimon.

Why Aoi deserves the hellhound/dog of death Digimon partner
The sweet, gentle, and caring Aoi paired up with the ominous and sinister dog from hell...doesn't seem to fit at first glance, right? But considering Aoi's character arc and the kind of person she becomes, I think that Labramon (and her subsequent evolutions) is the perfect fit for Aoi. They're the reasons that contribute a lot to Aoi becoming my favorite character in Survive. (Lengthy Aoi appreciation post incoming)
Looking at the Survive Labramon line itself, each and every stage is directly linked to a supernatural dog-like creature associated with death and the afterlife:
Labramon - cyn annwn (Welsh mythology)
Dobermon - hellhound/church grim (English folklore)
Cerberumon - Cerberus (Greek mythology)
Anubismon - Anubis (Egyptian mythology)
Plutomon - Hades/Pluto (Greek/Roman mythology)
I'm sure the rest are obvious to everyone; cyn annwn, on the other hand, is a lot more obscure but no less relevant. So for even the deceptively adorable Labramon to be based on the white-furred, red-eared ghostly hound in Welsh myth, it's very clear from the start what kind of partner Aoi's got in her hands.
But why this association with death? Why not something like love or kindness? Aoi is a very compassionate and nurturing person, after all. Seems like the last one to be dealing with something like death.
Quite the contrary: I think the answer to those questions lies in the responsibility that comes with such a role. This ties to Aoi's character development: growing a greater sense of responsibility and inner strength as she becomes more and more of a leader.
As seen in various mythologies, being the god or guardian of the afterlife is no small task. It's an important duty that carries a lot of weight in the grand scheme of any pantheon. This is best exemplified through Anubis, who is not only the Egyptian god of the dead, but of their judgment. Hades/Pluto, another god of the dead, is nowhere near as power-hungry, trigger-happy and confrontational as his brothers Zeus and Poseidon. There's an air of stoicism and maturity to him, especially so when he is considered their equal in power. A few sources even argue that he's actually stronger. He could take Mount Olympus by storm if he wanted to, but he doesn't. Popular depictions in books, movies, shows, etc tend to demonize these gods of death as villains (looking at you, Hades from Disney Hercules), when really they're more of a neutral yet very necessary force keeping the order of things stable.
This idea of being able to mete out death applies to even real life as well. Ask any police officer or soldier who has to handle firearms. Or anyone just holding a gun, really. It's a sobering feeling, holding something that could kill someone faster than you could blink. I'm sure that's how Aoi felt when her partner first became Cerberumon. Maybe that feeling didn't hit her with Labramon and Dobermon since they resemble real-life dogs. But a monster three-headed dog is another story. It's a testament to Aoi's character that she initially reacts with her desire for power with fear. She's right to be afraid at first. Without that fear...well, that's where you get the mass shooters and the psychopaths and the serial killers and the genocidal dictators. Power getting into the hands of people who don't give it the caution and respect it deserves is truly frightening, with devastating consequences. In the case of Survive, Shuuji at his lowest point wanted power from poor Lopmon for all the wrong reasons, craving it without caution and with reckless abandon, and that consumed him.
As said in Spider-Man: "With great power comes great responsibility." Cerberumon tells Aoi more or less the same, assuring her that great power can be entrusted to her as long as her heart is true and doesn't go astray. From here, Aoi takes it a step further from understanding the power she's given to making it her own. She wants it only to protect the ones she cares about. She goes from the shrinking violet who's never sure of her own opinions and decisions to being the firm, strong leader the other kids can really depend on. Takuma and the others notice and admire this change, especially in his absence as he was briefly stuck in the real world.
They say that the most trying times bring out the best or worst in people. For Aoi (in most routes of the game, anyway), facing life and death stakes in a strange world brings out the best qualities she didn't even know she had before. She really rose to the occasion and becomes someone her peers admire, respect, and follow. In my opinion, not only is Aoi the second in command alongside Takuma, Labramon is the second strongest after Agumon. Even early on, the other kids know Aoi is a real asset to their group. For example, when they're about to enter the underground waterway: they have no problem with leaving the unstable Shuuji behind, but they balk when Aoi suggests staying behind with him. Kaito and Minoru oppose the idea, saying that losing her would put a dent in their firepower. That says a lot about Aoi's contribution to the group, even when at that point she wasn't ready to see that in herself yet.
And going back to the use of correct judgment and authority, Aoi fills that role quite nicely. Contrast that with Shuuji initially ordering the other kids around left and right. Throwing around the fact that he's older and saying he's the leader isn't gonna get anyone to take him seriously. Aoi is quiet and reserved by nature, but not without a good head on her shoulders. When she's pushed to raise her voice and speak her mind, people shut up and listen. At least twice she's seen subduing Kaito, the most hotheaded with the shortest fuse, into meek submission. I don't think that's any small feat. It's for the best that something like Labramon, what she represents, isn't partnered with Shuuji or Kaito. She needs to be with someone who's got a good hold on the leash.
Finally, the thing that makes Aoi the perfect match with Labramon: her fiercely loyal and protective instinct we so love in dogs. Aoi is the Team Mom in more ways than one: cooking and cleaning and giving first aid. Most importantly, when push comes to shove and "her kids" are in danger, she can really bite back. Dracmon once remarked that "she can be downright fierce when she gets mad." Someone on Reddit said that Aoi "isn't a pretty little golden retriever, she's a fierce hellhound when she needs to be." I 100% agree. If you squint harder at the shy, well-behaved honor student, there's a sign on her that says "Beware of Dog." Poke at her hard enough and that part of her will jump out.
TL;DR: Aoi is the perfect person to tame the scary dog of death and make it her best friend. And I absolutely love her for it.
