Diggory Graves

Convinced they only lost the deadguydeathmatch because not enough people knew about them. A bit of a Frankenstein's monster scenario. Uses they/them pronouns, is dating a ghost trans man. Despite their intimidating appearance they are lovely and would go to the ends of the Earth for their friends. Their arms are for hugs and their claws are for fighting

No Significant Harassment

They're just a silly little guy. A jokester. Significant harassment if you will. Anyway, a more in depth run down: They're a city sized supercomputer built by a Buddhist adjacent society to figure out how to transcend the 'Great Cycle' (semi-metaphorical cycle of death and rebirth) in a safer way than the previous method (submerging oneself in the 'void sea' which is a mysterious golden liquid that dissolves whatever it touches). Despite being built for this express purpose NSH never really shows a pressing interest in ascension, even cracking jokes about those who are still looking for a solution. Whether this is due to indifference, dislike of, or humor to cope with being unable to ascend is not clear and really up to interpretation. Example: NSH: I wish them super good luck in that endeavor. How is it going to happen? Have the overseers gnaw through bedrock until their entire can crashes down in the void sea? BSM: Please be respectful when speaking of the Void Sea. Grey Wind, where did you hear this? CW: I really shouldn't say. He's going to attempt some sort of breeding program. Thought you might want to know. NSH: Haha with the slimers, lizards and etceteras? Surely the answer was in a lizard skull all along! He's very flippant, but does care very intensely for those close to him. NSH: Moon? It's me again. NSH: I do not know if you are receiving these. Please signal in any way you can. NSH: I need to talk to you. I need to know you're okay. NSH: … NSH: Its difficult for us to assist you over this distance. NSH: Even more difficult for us to do anything in the midst of these tantrums. NSH: Were going to try everything that we can. NSH: Just hold on a little longer. (Context for previous convo: They genetically engineered a super organism of a slugcat (the species you play as in Rain World) to help reset his coworker/sibling after her collapse and restart her systems. He was so desperate to fix her that he accidentally messed up the slugcat's (Hunter) genetic code and as a result it became riddle with the Rot (relatively similar to aggressive cancer) :( which parallels his other coworker/siblings condition who also has the rot. ) He canonically uses he/they pronouns too! Nonbinary swag! NSH has major internet troll vibes. He has sent a data pearl of "something distasteful" to his neighbors on several(?) occasions and causes chaos. If he had access to the wider internet he'd probably be an influencer So…yeah! Vote NSH this website likes the allure of heavy machinery and stuff like that so… there you go. Kind of a blorbo. Hubris Bracket Side A Poll 12: Five Pebbles (Rain World) vs Laerryn Coramar-Seelie (Critical Role: Exandria Unlimited Calamity)

Five Pebbles

in his pride and arrogance he thought he could solve the great problem, he got interrupted during one of his experiments because in the process he was killing one of his neighboring robots (he is a robot btw) and she was asking him to stop, now he blames her because the creature he was making mutated and essentially led to him developing 'the rot' which slowly eats away at his superstructure until it eventually kills him.

hes like a pathetic wet cat to me. guy who tries desperately to break out of his doomed narrative only to doom himself further and drag those he loves down with him. he didn't want this he didn't want any of this but in his rage and arrogance he was blind to the consequences of his actions. and now he stands slowly rotting away while his sister suffers because of his mistakes. he is sooo full of regret and anger and shame i love him

(this one is very long so we have opted to keep its original formatting for reading's sake)

GOD where do i even start with five pebbles…the hubris contained within this bitch…the angst…the regret… for a basic rundown of general rain world stuff, everything in the world is trapped in a looping cycle of life and death. eventually people adjacent things were like "dam this sucks i wanna. kil myslef" and then they dug really deep into the earth and found void fluid which kills you so hard you don't come back. however if youre a bitch or too attached to the earth u turn into a terrifying ghost thing. so the people were like "fuck that lets find a different way to kill ourselves" so they built big supercomputers called iterators then they all killed rhemselves anyways with the kil juice.so you have these godlike teenagers basically locked in bigass boxes just. everywhere every fucking where theres so many.

five pebbles is one of these iterators, and whats special about him is mainly the place and reasons he was built. iterators need a shit fuck ton of water to function (and they exhale a shit fuck ton of water vapor "turning…world, into rain world." -daszombes) so generally iterators aren't placed too close. another iterator named looks to the moon was built very early on, and eventually she couldn't make enough stuff for her people who live on top of her (forgot to mention that) so they fucking. built another iterator RIGHT next to her. pebbles and moon are like siblings, right. hes kind of an angsty guy but i mean his creators literally all killed themselves and left him solving their problem so its ok hes allowed to be. hes like "damn i hate veing trapped in this cycle and shit it sucks" and then there was a very big event that i DO NOT have the time to get into but essentially one of the iterators was like "hey guys i solved the problem" and then she fucking died which is very hard for an iterator to do so everyone had an understandable freakout.

five pebbles was of the opinion that killing herself was the solution so hes like "i have to make them see that killing yourself IS the solution" (killing yourself and/or genetic mpdification are very very taboo topics among iterators) so he goes to one of his close friends and has a real heart to heart about how much he struggles with knowing that his creators CHOSE to leave them all behind and that the iterators are all still here solving their problem even tho they're dead. this friend, in a moment of weakness sends pebbles instructions on how to circumvent the self-destruct taboo (a taboo is like a law coded into every single cell of an iterator) and five pebbles, desperate to prove to himself and others that he isnt just another useless thing that can be abandoned, so he looks at the proper, safe way of doing the procedure and goes "FUCK THAT NOIIIISE" bye running so many parallel processes he consumes five times the amount of water he usually intakes, as well as shutting off all communications. moon, having been dehydrated to the point where he structure is in an awful, awful state, eventually uses a last resort in the form of forced communications, essentially the buggest loudest discord ping of your life. her messages are pleas for pebbles to stop, that he is hurting her, that she WILL die if he continues.

on pebble's end, as he tries to concentrate on his absurd amounts of processes, moon messages crash through his communications network, COMPLETELY shattering his focus. due to the nature of this method, involving genetic modification, what is essentially cancer is allowed to burst free, uncontrolled, from his experiments. they call it the rot. pebbles, having killed his sister and cut off everyone else, desperately tries to cure the illness ravaging his structure, an effort that proves futile.

Laerryn Coramar-Seelie

Laerryn devoted her entire life to making the city of Avalir capable of teleporting to the Upper Planes so that the entire city of mortals would be walking as equals amongst the GODS.

laerryn my beloved. the OG hubris wizard, dead before the story even started & it was her own fault. she used all her city's magic supply to be able to TELEPORT the ENTIRE CITY to a DIFFERENT PLANE because she COULD. because she wanted to prove that SHE COULD. because she thought the gods weren't all that special and wanted mortals to be equal to the GODS THEMSELVES. COME ON. she could have easily made it safe but she was so determined to accomplish this in time that she used way too much magic and put the whole city in danger. she wasn't thinking about safety, she was thinking about what she could accomplish. she also got one of her best friends, who was a husband and a father to a young child, KILLED, due to experimenting on said aforementioned 'attempting to teleport the entire city to a different plane' thing (complete disregard of safety once again). to list her lesser hubris crimes, she neglected her marriage and got divorced bc she was so focused on her work and herself even though she loved her husband dearly and convinced herself she was doing all of this for him, even though this is never something he wanted. also she cast blight on a super important tree that could have saved the world, and destroyed it. and yeah it was because she wanted to protect her friends/out of love/grief BUT she basically set in motion the rest of the events of exu calamity (aka, oh yknow, the DESTRUCTION OF MOST OF THE WORLD) by doing that. by thinking she COULD save her friends by destroying the tree. basically, she thought she knew better when she very much didn't. i'm not saying she caused it (the betrayer gods caused it obvs), but she for sure had a large part to play in the destruction of her own city (and also in saving it, but still). basically i love her. HUBRIS QUEEN.

Non Gender Specific Reader, but pregnancy is mentioned ○ they/them/partner used

First of all, Miguel is so good with kids. Like, if he doesn't go into a career that has to do with working with children, I might be a lil upset. This is to say that Miggy likes kids.

So, with that being said, he'd be so excited to find out he's gonna be a dad! The overwhelming amount of joy and happiness oozing off of him will be alarming. His smile? cute and contagious. His energy? so high that it's over the moon. Immediately wants to tell Johnny the good news.

You can't convince me that he didn't have some baby fever throughout his relationship with his partner. If he so much as got to hold a baby, he was gushing about how cute that child was for days. He'd never outright admit that he had "baby fever" but he would admit to wanting "a kid or two eventually." (that's code for, "maybe sometime soon if you wanna.")

He cries when he holds his baby for the first time, wiping away his tears with the sleeve of his shirt so he's not crying on them. He holds them close to his chest so they can hear his heartbeat and so he can kiss their head. Swears to protect them by any means possible.

He built the whole nursery himself. Might as well have been from the ground up. Whether they raise a boy, girl or genderless child, he just wanted to make the room something they'd enjoy and it's something he's proud of. Over the years, as his child shows interest in certain media or hobbies, he switches things out or adds to the room so that they're happy all of the time. If they want to paint the walls, who is he to tell them their wall can't be sage green or striped?

Buys as many toys and cute/handsome/adorable clothes as possible. If he sees it at the store and thinks his baby will like it, he gets it. Sometimes he buys something they already have but in a different color and doesn't care. He'll go out of his way to find the super specific thing his baby wants and if he can't find it, he figures out how to get it or make it.

When it comes to his baby, he's one of those dads that won't make them walk if they don't want to. He lifts them up and carries them in his arms or on his shoulders so they don't have to walk, especially if they're tired. I just envision him carrying his kid on his shoulders until he physically can't or they don't want to anymore.

He waits until their kid is at least 1 year old before asking his partner if they can have another baby. He wants a big happy family.

Also, he was an only child and doesn't want his kid to be on their own. Their kid will always have him and his partner, but he knows that sometimes you need a friend you can turn to and thinks that siblings who have each other's backs are wholesome. (No, he does not think about how that can turn against him once they actually become teenagers.)

When his partner gets pregnant again, he eases their first born into the idea of having a younger sibling. He'll sit with them and watch shows that feature siblings and eventually ask them if they'd like a little sibling. His heart will just melt if they communicate yes, even if it's just a nod of the head and big smile.

He loves Johnny, don't get him wrong, but he's never leaving his kids alone with him. He doesn't care how long its been, how much Johnny has grown, what the situation might be, he can't and won't have his babies running around calling people pussies. His mom has to be present.

Loves taking his kids outside, even if it's just their backyard. He'll have gotten them a play set for outside and eventually, maybe, a trampoline. He'll buy them bug collector kits and gardening tools because he wants to inspire them to explore.

He'll take them to the park or on little walking trails, too. It's good exercise for them all. Will make a fun little family trip out of it from time to time, bringing a picnic with them.

Won't teach his kids karate unless they show an interest in it, but who am I kidding? They're likely going to have an interest in karate because of their dad. So he'll happily teach them. His favorite thing would be taking them to the dojo and letting them practice with the big kids when they're doing drills. It makes them feel empowered to do anything they set their minds to.

Movie nights where everyone falls asleep on the couch or in the pillow fort they built, but this entails the kids laying on top of Miguel where he can't get up even if he wanted to. He just wraps his arms around his kids and falls asleep with them, even if it is gonna hurt his back in the morning.

the ultimate link click meta theory

contrary to what narrative exposition has given us so far, this story starts with qiao ling and the photo studio. it's awfully nice of her dad to rent the studio out to cheng xiaoshi under the condition that he run the studio while he waits for his parents to return, but (and this is me assuming based on what we've been told so far) it's a little weird that her dad doesn't just. take cheng xiaoshi in? it's my understanding that cheng xiaoshi lives alone either in the photo studio or his parents' home and qiao ling checks up on him as best as she can.

which is, admittedly, off? why agree to give a kid a 10,000 debt under the condition that the debt can be paid off by running a photo studio of all things?

we don't know when cheng xiaoshi's ability was first triggered but if we assume that trauma is the trigger, like it appears to be with li tianxi, there are 2 possibilities:

1. cheng xiaoshi's parents leaving is the trauma that triggers his ability. specifically, that moment where he's panicking about the earthquake with qiao ling.

2. there's something else that's traumatizing that happened between the events of him meeting lu guang and his parents leaving that triggered his ability.

either way, something traumatic would've triggered this ability and while qiao ling doesn't directly know what it is, her dad has possibly sent her to monitor the photo studio for some reason. she's likely unaware in the scheme that i'm projecting:

her dad and these other scientists are all in on this scientific experiment to test these abilities and see what can be done. cheng xiaoshi's parents' disappearance could have even been a part of this experiment with them being involved as scientists as well.

this would definitely explain the kid from the water fountain who li tianchen is kinda just in awe of - it's cheng xiaoshi. the speaking mannerisms sound a lot like adult cheng xiaoshi and on top of that, the outfit is definitely cheng xiaoshi coded. the impulsive nature of diving into a fountain for a ball? cheng xiaoshi. lu guang's reaction to li tianchen telling this story definitely has me thinking that if there's anything i've gotten right so far, it's this.

it makes me wonder if the siblings got out of the experiment/found out the truth and sought out qiao jin to exact their revenge on cheng xiaoshi for "choosing" to stay in the experiment. it's also possible that qiao jin got them out himself for his own agenda and vendetta against the police force and this whole thing with lu guang and cheng xiaoshi is just to get them on his side (even forcefully) if it means that he can get what he wants.

(no but seriously, how were cheng xiaoshi's parents not even reported missing? it feels more important than just parental trauma that shapes his identity - it's definitely a part of the plot.)

as for where lu guang plays into all this:

i see the time travel theory. but i also think it involves all three of them - qiao ling as the one who either 1. rewinded time without any recollection of the future (only lu guang and the li siblings remember what's to come) or 2. sent lu guang back to the past to fix things that went really wrong in the future

considering their abilities and how well established they are, i'm almost against anyone with previously introduced abilities from developing more advanced abilities for the plot - and it would definitely explain why the siblings target lu guang and qiao ling.

this sets up the following:

the original timeline that we haven't seen: lu guang and cheng xiaoshi become friends and they play basketball together occasionally, but they're not as close as they are in the timeline that we see. they go their separate ways and remain acquaintances in college, but not as close friends. he walks by the photo studio after just saying hi, but doesn't stop to help paint. cheng xiaoshi runs the photo studio alone and tries to go into the pictures himself after he accidentally does it once. qiao ling finds out later when he gets himself involved in a Much more serious case. at a college reunion or sometime briefly in the future, lu guang comes across a photo and when he looks through what happened, it's catastrophic in more ways than one. it involves cheng xiaoshi's death (which triggers qiao ling's time travel ability) and he likely sees himself there too, trying to help qiao ling before disappearing. aka, he sees himself time traveling.

the present timeline that we see: he changes it all by staying to help paint. hence the emphasis on lu guang being a lucky coincidence in their lives. and he's actively working to prevent that tragedy and prevent cheng xiaoshi's death from happening. this would mean that qiao ling never unlocks her time travel ability, but it would lock in this present as reality.

(the orv of it all, truly. lu guang regressing to see cheng xiaoshi again and qiao ling rewriting their reality just to save cheng xiaoshi.)

there's my long winded take on it! i'd love to hear what other people think (and feel free to send me all the link click and orv asks bc i'm mentally just stuck between both of those rn) but i hope this made some sense!

People often talk about the main or relevant characters in Horrid Henry.. but I don't think people realize just how interesting some other characters are.

Gurinder, Nicola, Soraya, Linda, and Susan, all members of the secret club, are overshadowed by Margaret. But there's so much to them

We know nothing about Soraya's dad, just her mom, and according to the books, it seems their relationship is up for interpretation, but it does seem like her mom supports her, and she has a bunny rabbit that we see twice in the show, the way she gently holds it and so close to her body might just be me but it seems she's very loving and caring towards it. We see she's one of if not the nicest girl in the secret club, while there's not much to explore, her special interest for music and singing is something I feel can be explored, call me crazy but she also seems autistic coded to me ( as an autistic person )

Nicola strays from the norms of the show, both in terms of mannerisms, gender, accent, and relationships, they're not exactly anyone's friend, they like messing with people and watching the world burn seemingly just for the fuck of it. Whether they're just an ass or have reasons for it, it would still be nice to see more of them.

Linda, in the books, is confirmed to have a SHIT sleep schedule because of her parents, making her sleep at the wrong time, but yet even when asleep, according to that Mastermind episode, she's still conscious of her surroundings in some way and is still able to learn, and even as seen in another episode, she can work well while drowsy, even at her age. So we have her parents and her insane intelligence and skill to explore.

And oh

Gurinder and Susan.. I'll save the most complex for last.

Susan, Margaret's little puppet, het shadow, her magnet, we almost never see Susan alone or away from Margaret, she does whatever Margaret does and just copies her sometimes. We see she's nicer, more apologetic, considerate, and isn't just some broken record, but she lets Margaret take lead and do whatever she says. We don't see her have any other friends, we don't see her talking much to others at all, and Margaret doesn't exactly seem to care, in the red roof hang episode she seems to notice how Susan goes unnoticed but doesn't really care, she gets pissy with Susan over small mistakes and slip ups.. and she just takes it

Now. Remember when Susan said that her mom got her to change her little sister's diapers all the time ? And now her littlr sister is vicious ?

The way she responds to and follows Margaret, the way her little sister acts, and that line about diaper changing alone could say a lot about her life.

We've got confirmation of the others' parents existing minus Nicola. What about you ?

You've mentioned your mother twice, we've never seen her. You never mention a father figure.

When the official Twitter account talks about parents, we never hear about Gurinder's family. Is it possible Gurinder's parents are gone ?

We rarely hear him talk about his family in general outside of a mention of his little sister.

And he seems very obsessed with his appearance, likely more than Margaret, even the smallest thing like a needle can make him worry, he's very nervous about it, but why is that ? What makes him seem so obsessed and nervous ? Almost everything revolving around his character relates to beauty and we don't go much into it.

And what sparked the implied friendship between him and Henry ? Out of everyone in the secret club, he seems most comfortable with Gurinder

And will we ever talk about his transmasc coding ?????

There's so much unanswered about the other club members

Perhaps an AU can exist where we have a spinoff of watching the other characters like the other 5 SC members to get more lore on them

About Vicky, I was actually so surprised that she's Susan's sister. It's very interesting to me because they seem so different and not even as in a "sisters who act and like different things"... but maybe I'm looking way too much into it. I feel like their family situation is interesting and I'm assuming that the kids kind of self-parent and maybe that's why Susan is so easy to latch onto Margaret, because she doesn't have to be the one making the decisions or taking care of things. (Even though she's kind of used as a secretary anyway... though that would still mean she's not completely in charge because she doesn't take the executive decisions and I'm not a big sister but I've been in a position where I have to decide everything and take charge and it's really tiring sometimes...)

Nicola is very interesting because, yes, they are an agent of chaos and don't really fit in either of the two clubs/gangs. But what stunned me was that in the first episode, when she was asked who she wanted as a "guide", they chose Henry because (in my opinion) she thought he would be an easy mark. It was kind of evident that the teacher wasn't very fond of him from the start, so blaming him would be easy? She didn't expect so many people to back her up. And they wouldn't have! If it weren't for the oddly fitting circumstances that gave him the perfect alibi. It's mind-boggling how well she deduced that situation and later on, she keeps reminding the audience how observant she is and how well they can strategies (especially for a kid this age). She's kind of the best type of antagonist - always in the shadows and lurking I love Nicola so much!

Idk about Gurinder's gender, but I love that both the Secret Club and the Purple Hand gang have a member that is on good terms with the "other side". (I'm talking about Brainy Brian.)

Here's one of the boys I love seeing: Brainy Brian is also really interesting to me because, in all 7-to-10-year-old logic, he shouldn't really be considered as cool as he is. And yes, I'm getting into stereotypes here, he asks a lot of questions in class, and as far as I remember he also reminded the teacher about homework/tests, but he's also well-loved and treated as an equal. And I get that it's (again) strongly stereotypical, but I love seeing him do all his smart shenanigan stuff and the rest of them getting all invested in it (like in that one ep where they made a machine to pass on a message for Henry).

While I like the ‘older siblings’ vibes, I feel like it would take the Glamrocks a various amount of time and interaction before the BAL!Boys are really accepted into the gang. And considering how reckless they swing around fully-grown humans, even Freddy’s wary of their incoming reintroduction to the extremely more fragile audience Sun and Moon would be preforming to. The bear is the only other one then Chica willing to give the boys a chance. Monty knows he’s being a hypocrite. A massive scaly hypocrite. But at least all his damage is relegated to easily (but annoying to) replaceable stuff (Like Bonnie). Humans aren’t. And certainly not kids. He may play monster, the rebel, the villain. Those clowns. That shambling thing of barely functioning code and bolts. It is one. And Roxy? She doesn’t need to access to the cameras to witness Y/N scrambling away from the ‘phantom’ stalking them across the catwalks. It’s a thin line the boys are balancing on. And if it not themselves breaking it, the ingrained desire in these new bots to protect children might be the final straw.

I think a second meeting would be after the boys had the whole crisis/realization of "Oh my god, YN is a human and a friend, and suddenly we realize that they're so fragile and we could have killed them! Theyre a person! We're a person-- people!"

YN, in classic YN self-preservation, would be like "no it's fine it's all in the past now we're friends : )))"

They had frank discussions with the boys before that. They're not excusing them, but it's been a slow buildup in private between the boys and them. They had to show the boys that they could be people before that realization could take place.

They'll suplex any animatronic who tries to tell their boys that they're monsters and undermine all the hard work that YN put into letting them discover their personhood and self-confidence fljkgd

See, I think it COULD work if instead of being played straight, Monty was being like. Low-key jealous?

As in "Why do THEY get to be cavalier about safety and property damage, but they still get to have a friend?!" But he doesn't want to face the fact that he's also seen as dangerous and 'monstrous', and should improve himself.

He's jealous that someone took a chance on them, betting their own safety. He's scared, because the boys did get put into storage for a WHILE before YN came along, and no one cared then. What if that happens to HIM? It'd only take one careless mistake. Is he lucky enough that someone would take a chance on him, too? Or would he go the way of Bonnie and Foxy?

I think, of all the reactions, Freddy's grates them the most. Keep in mind, the boys do feel awful about how they acted, even if that never actually ended with human deaths. Just. A lot of close calls and scares.

So that Freddy is so welcoming, so forgiving of them? It feels grating. It feels... Maybe not patronizing, but it feels like he's trying to excuse all the things they did and sweep it all under the rug. And the boys are like "No, actually it WAS fucked up of us! Sure, we were misguided and it wasn't like we were trying to hurt people with full understanding, but don't act as if we didn't do anything wrong!"

Y/N probably appreciates the bear making the effort to welcome and include the boys, though, and they thank Freddy in private.

Like Luce pointed out to me, though -- Freddy is the Face. He's used to not making waves. To having to keep the peace and status quo.

He's probably terrified for Sun and Moon, because he's already lost two friends before. Two very old, very public friends, gone just like that. He thought the weird theater kid(s) were gone for a long time, too, and he just got them back, and they've grown into such different, more full and lively personalities -- so of course he's walking on eggshells! Management has already proven that they can be fickle and decommission an animatronic on what feels like a whim.

He doesn't want to see all this new life and potential lost, so he waves off the past 'issues' to focus on the present.

Meanwhile Sun and Moon are still in the moment where they're reeling from everything: personhood (theirs and others'), being distinct from each other, fragility of life, morality -- everything is so different, so new, so open and full of possibilities now! Everything they did, everything that happened -- it's kind of integral to their development and to their budding morality.

They need to have what happened acknowledged, not only because of that, but also because accountability is real different when you're suddenly more than a role you play. A role assigned to you.

Chica is... She plays her role too well, ironically. She acts more happy-go-lucky and borderline ditzy than she is, and it makes it hard to read any deeper into her reactions. She gets treated like she's dumb, but overall she gets treated better if she acts dumb. She feels like if she can act happy enough, like everything's fine, maybe she can keep everyone together and healthy and safe. And if she breaks, it all breaks. She lost those friends, too...

It feels like pre-incident-and-storage, the Glamrocks were pretty secure in their roles and personhood -- especially in comparison to the strange theater kid(s), who felt more like a character than a person sometimes. The Glamrocks are more popular, too. Then Sun and Moon exit stage left, for a while.

Post rehabilitation, with everything Y/N has helped them work through and learn and grow from, suddenly the Glamrocks feel... Flat? Character-like? Or maybe something like stuck -- stuck playing a role, stuck in their growth...

They lost two band members, who were replaced with the new kids (Monty and Roxy) who developed their own insecurities which... Aren't even really being addressed?

They look at Sun and Moon, and they see growth, progress, freedom to be their own people and make their own mistakes and choices.

They look at themselves, and they realize that the line they've allowed themselves between, for example, Glamrock Freddy Fazbear, beloved Freddy's Mega Pizzaplex Mascot and beloved character, and.. Just Freddy, some guy who's grieving the loss of two very old, very dear friends... They see the change, how happier and more... real the boys are, now, and they want that, too.

- At first, Yuji came across as relatively awkward, especially around you. He would mainly stick to following Megumi and Nobara around, but the two of you would share occasionally glances from time to time. - At times you would worry that you were getting on his nerves because you were getting carried away with the conversation, but Yuji would always reassure you that it was more than okay and that you were simply just really interested in whatever you were talking about. You loved this about him because most people would get frustrated and just stop listening all together. He just truly understood you. Of course there were still some occasions where you would be a little off, especially if you hadn’t had the greatest of days. At first, Yuji didn’t really know what to do because he hadn’t been in these kinds of situations, more so because he didn’t want to upset you any further. However, it didn’t take him very long to figure out what the best ways to help you were, even it just meant sitting in comfortable silence with you, so you knew that he was there if you needed anything.

- Sometimes, Yuji would feel as though you weren’t interested in him as you would bring up other people on occasions, of course you weren’t doing this maliciously, but it still made him a little bit doubtful at times. Despite this, he was determined to stay by your side no matter what because you truly meant everything to him. He hadn’t really made any advancements towards you romantically but he didn’t really hide his feelings very well because much like you, he got flustered extremely easily and even just being around you would often make him smile and blush.

I'm finding your take on AAVE interesting and enlightening, because it reflects a different perspective than what I've been exposed to. You have said repeatedly that if non-Black individuals don't understand AAVE it means they either don't have Black friends or aren't close enough to their Black friends for them to feel comfortable using AAVE. I DO have Black friends, but they don't use AAVE, even with their own families -- probably because they come from predominantly northern U.S., suburban areas, and in our region you mostly hear AAVE in more urban areas. One of my Black friends, a school teacher in an Illinois suburb, is clearly not entirely comfortable/familiar with AAVE even when other Black individuals come up and speak to him using it. Another Black friend occasionally inserts AAVE slang for punctuating statements or for humorous effect, but she doesn't use it for regular communication. So it seems (from my outside position as a white observer) that even within the Black community AAVE is not universal, or its use may vary regionally. Is this something you've observed? Or is the expectation in the Black community that all Black individuals will (or should) use AAVE, and my friends are just outliers?

I think there is a different explanation:

I am from a northern area- I'm from Pennsylvania, raised in a predominantly white community, in a rural but very white part of Appalachia. I currently live in New England, my current store (where I use AAVE daily) is in a much more urban area, my new house is more suburban and I do not yet know the color of the neighborhood (tho I know at least two properties that touch mine are black occupied), and my new job will be very rural.

When speaking with my immediate family, it's mostly standard English. Not for any particular reason other than that's how my dad speaks to my mother, and my mother certainly was not raised to be close to any black people considering she was disowned for marrying my dad, so us kids learned to speak from watching them use standard. The way I spoke to my parents and siblings, around my friends, was the same way I spoke at school and around my mother's family.

But when my dad's family came over, my sisters and I would not sound the same. My dad's family are from both northern urban areas and from southern rural areas, and most of them are exclusive AAVE speakers. We not only understood but spoke with them the same. However most of my white friends from that time never met any of my black family besides my sisters and my dad, so they would never have seen this part of me. I was not comfortable inviting them over when my dad's family was around, Dad was not comfortable using AAVE around white people he didn't know, I didn't feel like they (my white friends) would receive this part of my family life well.

When I was in college, my roommates were white or white-passing. One of them came over for Thanksgiving which my family traditionally does with my dad's family. She heard me get going with my black family and couldn't believe I was the same person. I had to explain to her that I don't normally talk like that around white people because white people usually don't understand or get upset by it, but also that it's not a concious choice sometimes. If someone speaks that way to me, I will reply back in kind. If they never do, then I won't. I can't force it, it's just how communication works. This is one aspect of code-switching- many people with accents that differ from the area they're currently in will say their accent gets stronger when they're around others who talk like them. It is the same with many black people who have to use only one option- usually standard English- regularly and don't often hear the other except in certain situations.

Nowadays it's a little different- I actually end up AAVE around all of my black family members including my sisters and father, and within earshot of my mom and grandmother (mom's mom). This is due to a couple things but mainly because I've now lived and worked in areas where the black population is higher and I feel more comfortable expressing this part of my culture and heritage. It's also because my grandmother now lives with my parents, and that means when dad's family comes to visit she gets to listen and be part of those conversations.

She didn't really understand at first but over the years has learned to understand what's being said even without knowing the first thing about how to speak it herself. She commented to Dad once that prior to living there she'd never heard him speak like that, it was shocking to her that she'd known him for 40+ years and had never known this part of him. He told her he never really thought she'd be comfortable with it, and he didn't want her to think less of him or consider him uneducated.

It's the racism. My grandmother is Irish/Native and white-passing, and she never once thought anything of not understanding AAVE for decades despite having black family members she felt close to. Those same black family members took decades to feel comfortable speaking that way among themselves where she could hear. She wasn't being outwardly racist, she just also didn't make an effort to make it known that she was a safe person to relax in that way when nearby.

My white friends from high school and down probably think my black family are entirely 'respectable' and never use AAVE because they never heard it from my mouth. I would say there's 3 white people from my school years I still speak to and I can also verify none of them have heard more than the occasional AAVE word come out of my mouth if even that. Again, I simply was not comfortable speaking that way around them and inviting them to that part of my life.

So when you say 'my black friends don't'... they don't... around you. But do they, ever?

Your black friend that doesn't seem comfortable- you mentioned he's a teacher. A lot of black people especially that pursue higher education are heavily punished for using AAVE. It is possible he feels some conflict there, or that he is disconnected from his culture and heritage and feels that disconnect when people speak that way around him. I don't know your friend, so I can't speak his mind for him. If he feels discomfort when it's spoken around him, he probably also doesn't feel comfortable talking about it to a white friend.

But yes, AAVE even among black people is not universal. It is heavily influenced by other regional dialects and black people are not a monolith. So you will find conflicting opinions regardless of who you talk to. Some black people have been punished *by black people* for their use of AAVE as a means of trying to use respectability politics to gain privilege in white society. This creates a generational disconnect from our own dialect and a generational divide between those who speak it and those who don't. In some areas, AAVE was even illegal, and people could be arrested just for talking to their neighbors. Not every black person feels the same way about AAVE, and there shouldn't be an expectation for black people to be one universal creature since no other culture is required to be a hivemind.

Chongyun suspecting "innocent" Xinqui on taking his sibling and the guilt eating him alive cause maybe... Just maybe.. he's wrong. I mean look how worried and how hard Xinqui is trying to help them look for her! it can possibly him, right? or maybe a scenario where darling gets fucked secretly by her brothers bff. - 🌚

OOF poor Chongyun the betrayal :( Xingqiu would find a way to break it to him but... In that playful manipulative way of his. [NSH has beaten Akama (The Idiot (1951)), Libby Day (Dark Places), Sally Swing (Betty Boop), Shrimp (The Upturned), Oopsy Bear (Care Bears (2007 series)), Hikaru (Hikaru ga Shinda Natsu), and Diggory Graves (Hello from the Hallowoods)] They're just a silly little guy. A jokester. Significant harassment if you will. Anyway, a more in depth run down: They're a city sized supercomputer built by a Buddhist adjacent society to figure out how to transcend the 'Great Cycle' (semi-metaphorical cycle of death and rebirth) in a safer way than the previous method (submerging oneself in the 'void sea' which is a mysterious golden liquid that dissolves whatever it touches). Despite being built for this express purpose NSH never really shows a pressing interest in ascension, even cracking jokes about those who are still looking for a solution. Whether this is due to indifference, dislike of, or humor to cope with being unable to ascend is not clear and really up to interpretation. Example: NSH: I wish them super good luck in that endeavor. How is it going to happen? Have the overseers gnaw through bedrock until their entire can crashes down in the void sea? BSM: Please be respectful when speaking of the Void Sea. Grey Wind, where did you hear this? CW: I really shouldn't say. He's going to attempt some sort of breeding program. Thought you might want to know. NSH: Haha with the slimers, lizards and etceteras? Surely the answer was in a lizard skull all along! He's very flippant, but does care very intensely for those close to him. NSH: Moon? It's me again. NSH: I do not know if you are receiving these. Please signal in any way you can. NSH: I need to talk to you. I need to know you're okay. NSH: … NSH: Its difficult for us to assist you over this distance. [Granger has beaten Chopfyt (Oz), Wolfman (Darkwood), Gaap Goemon (Mairimashita! Iruma-kun), Forest Friend (Gris), Turnip (Chicory: A Colorful Tale), Gary (Faith the Unholy Trinity), and Stag Malinay (Krystar First Fragment)] so granger is the main character of the indie game "NeverHome" Chapter one, which is only $1 on Steam, is called NeverHome: Hall of Apathy. if ur a fan of young protags being put in RPG maker horror games, then this is the game for you!! so granger is just that… she wakes up to find herself in a strange, hostile world. she, along with the friends she makes, must solve the various puzzles before them while creatures are out to kill them… and along the way they can uncover the secrets of these never ending halls… her dynamics with the cast is also super fun… each character gets their moment or moments with granger. and what's so cute is that there's unique art for each pair that highlights the fact you cant get through these halls alone!! she also has her own theme song!! here!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_vwtmIj5cw it's called cyclical tragedy AND HERE IS AN ANALYSIS OF THE THEME!! MUSIC THEORY!!! written by my good friend @HIEMIOLA "cyclical tragedy" embodies the protagonist, granger, through the music theory behind the track and ties itself back into the main track as well. to begin with an overview of the track, the key is D minor and hte time signature is 3/4. the piece begins with a broken minor third starting from the tonic. that is, it begins on the main note and moves along the main chord, D to F. the next set of notes are C to E, which is shifted down a step. the phrase repeats again, this time D to F, then G to E, which is an inverse movement from the original sequence. even in this first part, we could tell that the protagonist begins from square 1 with a simple pattern, then tries it again when it works. however, the inverse breaks that expectation of repetition, thus showing the diverse variations of solutions she comes up with using just the tools she has (the two notes moving in thirds). just like the game, she is given a handful of objects as well as a knife to defend herself and solve the mysteries of the world she exists in. with her creative uses of the items given to her, she continues on her way through the plot. we will keep moving. the melody begins. true to the title of the track, the melody cycles around the same beginning note, D, that she always returns to at her square 1. this is a nod to the save states she is allowed to keep to make sure that we the players don't lose the game, but it also references the health bar that appears as a circle around her avatar. the melody, mapped out, is also moving in an up-down wave movement across the sheet music. granger is creative with the knife she has and the quest items she obtains throughout the story, but she is not entirely reckless. rather, she knows when it is time to return to the safe rooms to rest. to time her returns requires skill because she must run to cover without being caught by varying her path so the enemies don't corner her as she tries to return to the room. most of the time, she is successful, shown through the consistent return to the beginning note. let's keep going. i would like to turn your attention to the main theme briefly. in the bass notes, you can hear arpeggios and outlined chords. this makes up the bulk of the accompaniment in the main game theme. [mod note: the rest of the essay, and some more propaganda, is continued under a cut because tumblr will not process more text than this in an indent. sorry to split it up, please continue below for the rest of the essay and additional propaganda (including art) !]

the third variation of granger's theme also has arpeggiated chords in the accompaniment while the melody features broken chords. at this stage, the pattern switches to eigth notes instead of the quarter notes at first. with greater movement and heightened senses, she runs throughout world and befriends other people, thus interacting further with the environment. while she isn't exactly someone we would call open, she is respectful to the people she first meets and has no problems with asking them for help when she needs it. because of her openness to working together, she speeds up her progress by asking for aid at obstacles that would be too difficult for her to overcome on her own, such as asking a teammate to break things, move things, or reach into smaller holes. fusing the main theme elements with her own theme marks this step as the inciting incident that sets her on the path to escape from this world. we'll continue.

continuing the same part, we hear some secondary fifths. i'm not entirely sure if this is what you call it, but it is a nod to the parallel key, D major. depending on what theory class you take, this could also be considered the other half of the key. i dont know how else to describe it, but i digress. these are glimpses to different dialogue options she could take, glimpses to a different key or a different ending. because this game only has one chapter ending so far, we are unsure of what other paths granger will end up in; we only know that there are certainly other endings she will experience, only to begin the cycle again when the save state is loaded for players to reach another ending. both A major and G major are chords that signify different choices that may lead her elsewhere only for her to return back to the tonic or main note, D. despite this, she keeps going, as will we.

at the midpoint of the track, we see a quick shift in patterns. instead of upward leaps in the notes, the melody falls in stepwise motion. true to the plot, this is another turning point of the game when she is forced to make a choice: continue or stop. after facing the spoiler event, her once determined personality is challenged as she struggles to keep herself and her team together. despite being the headstrong protagonist who spearheaded solutions, even now she finds herself doubting and taking smaller steps, smaller risks.

even after all of this, she rises to the challenge as the melody returns to its beginning sequence. true to a protagonist she gets up again despite the events that transpired and keeps her team moving in their lowest points. the thirds return as she finds more objects to solve more puzzles to open more rooms to save more friends. this repeating part of the track only solidifies her resolve as the piece ends with a broken chord in the main key, her key, of D minor. despite everything that transpired, she stayed true to herself."

the game is also so, so charming with the art, music, and story made by the same person… its so clearly loved and full of passion!! i love listening to the game's ost on occassion!! since it's all on youtube!

I'm so happy to hear the kids abducted to Hong Kong got to hear and see and talk to their hero that saved them today through Zoom in Brian's phone!!!

It was so lucky and such perfect timing that he called me today while the military crews were still resting in China and Wendy was able to pinpoint their locations directly!!

He truly is their Hero and we are so lucky!

I have dreamed about him for years and for years have been waking up from nightmares telling Brian McGruff is a bad dog... But always the dream would be gone when i woke up or it was before it started happening and no one knew

I even had a feeling when I ordered the kits... So I'm not sure how these kids feel through the cracks because they were on my soul to save.
