so i have this idea in a Desmond lives au after the solar flare he starts a channel like tasting history with max miller in which he recreates historical dishes that his ancestors used to make with Shaun and Rebecca appearing by tasting what he makes
(The video starts with a man addressing the video in a beautiful clean kitchen)
“So this isn’t my usual content but I’ve got a lot of requests to do a reaction video on this youtube channel called ‘I Am Not My Ancestors’ where he recreates recipes he got from his ancestors. At least, that’s what he claims. A lot of you asked me to check if his recipes are what a household from that time period would make and I asked Desmond, he’s the owner of I’m Not My Ancestor channel if he’s alright with me reacting to them and I received his permission.”
“I’d like to make it clear that he has no hand in any of my reactions. This will be the first time I’m watching the videos I’d be reacting to and there’s no script, we didn’t talk about what I should say or what I shouldn’t say. I can even show you guys his actual reply to my email.”
(The video cuts to some kind of recorder, most probably a phone camera, aimed at the screen of a monitor showing an opened email)
Subject: Re: Requesting permissions to react to your videos
Sender: Desmond M [email protected]
yeah go ahead man.
(The video returns to the man in the kitchen)
“So with his permission… let’s check out some of his videos, shall we?”
(The video changed. On the lower left corner is the same man, now wearing earbuds. The rest of the video appears to be a screen recording of the Youtube Channel ‘I Am Not My Ancestors’. The mouse clicks on the Cooking Playlist and clicks a video titled “What an Assassin from 12th Century That Can’t Cook Cooks”)
(The video changes to a normal looking kitchen with a young man. A prominent scar mars his lips and his eyes seemed to glow gold at certain angles although it looked mostly light brown)
“So… I’ve been focusing on Renaissance Italy food for a while now and I thought I’d branch out and make something my other ancestors made. Then I remembered my ancestor from 12th century Syria doesn’t know how to cook.” The man said as he placed his hands on the counter, “But, well, let’s try it anyway.”
(The video continues with the man listening down all the ingredients he’d be using to make what he calls ‘road food’)
(The video is paused and the man on the lower left begins to speak)
“Okay, so this is one of his latest videos and I just want to talk about all the ingredients he’s using for this… ‘road food’. All of these can be bought in Syria and I’ve seen all of them used in different dishes in historical cook books. The more important part is that all of these? Can be found in the wilds during those time and I believe that he’ll tell us that these ingredients are used because they don’t cost any money, only time and a discerning eye. Let’s see if I’m right.”
(The video plays once more)
“You can also change any of the things I listed to whatever wild plants to find on your way. Normally, if your mission takes you to a place that’s more than a day ride away-”
“By horse.” Someone off camera added.
“Yeah, by horse. Thanks, Becs. Anyway, if it’s more than a day ride away, what you usually do is stay in a nearby bureau- hm? Oh, right. A bureau is what the Assassins call their… mini headquarters in other places. So they have their headquarters in Masyaf, Alamut and Ḥalab and they have bureaus on other places as well.”
(The video paused and the man on the lower left speaks once more)
“While I can’t verify his claims, the Nizaris of which the Assassins are from did have strongholds in Masyaf, Alamut and this Ḥalab is more known as Aleppo to many of us. Anyway, let’s continue.”
(The video is played once more)
“But sometimes, you go to a far away place and the supplies they give you is lacking because Al Mualim is a stingy old man who’ll tell you that ‘an Assassin must triumph over’ this kind of bullshit so you learn to live off eating game and grass-”
(The video is paused and the man on the lower left commented)
“I believe this Al Mualim he speaks of is Rashid al-Din Sinan, known as the Old Man of the Mountain. From the way he speaks, it’s either he knows Rashid himself. Or, of course, he has a journal of his ancestor who has certain words to describe Rashid. I’m sure it’s the latter.”
(The video plays once more)
“So this is what Al-”
“Your ancestor.”
(The man on the lower left tilts his head but does not pause the video)
“My ancestor would make during those ‘tiring’ times.”
(The video continues as the man starts to cook, starting from preparing a small game and then… throwing it and all the other ingredients in a pot. The man on the lower left stared at him with an open mouth.)
“Yeah, that’s it. Just wait until the meat is cooked. While you wait, you should patrol the area, check your map, write on your journal… the usual stuff.”
(The video transitions to the same place but the man is now on his phone, seemingly tapping on the screen.)
“Desmond… isn’t it cooked yet?”
“Hm? Oh, yeah. I told you guys this is the easiest shit my ancestors can cook. This is also the only thing Alta-”
“Your ancestor.”
“My ancestor can’t fucked up. Anyway, let’s have Shaun try it out.”
(As the man grabs a bowl and pours the soup in it, a man with glasses stepped to the frame with arms crossed)
“Guys, say hello to Shaun, our resident taste tester and the actual historian in our little group.”
“I’ve been tasting everything you make for these videos. They already know who I am.”
“Yeah, yeah, just taste this.”
(The man with glasses took the bowl and blew his spoon before taking a mouthful. He chewed for a moment before nodding.)
“It’s okay.”
“You're British, of course you think the lack of flavor is okay.”
“Hey.”
“Anyway, the main point of this dish is to sustain us. Good food will always be welcomed but what we need is the nutrients and energy food gives us. After we get to the bureau, we’ll have some actual good food.”
(The video pauses and changes to only show the man in the beautiful kitchen)
“Okay, so let’s talk about the recipe itself…”
(The video continues as the man list down all the ingredients and where they have appeared in historical books, referencing other recipes similar to the recipe that the video used)
“I think I should watch more videos, maybe one of his Renaissance Italy videos because it seems like this ancestor of his is quite… the ‘frugal’ and practical kind. Let me know in the comments which videos you’d like me to watch nex-
(The video stops and the laptop closes)
“Desmond, he called Altaïr frugal and practical.”
“Not because he wanted to. What do you think he did when he was traveling with Maria? That man tried out every food he saw.”
(is this in the same universe as #Da Vinci's secret lover Not-Salai? Maybe? Maybe not? idk)

incredibly sorry for the incoming 10 mile long block of text but im getting back into my niche farming history hyperfixtation where i just read a ton of history books and find that all my other hyperfixtations are somehow interconnected (long story) and i cant stop thinking about the american farm history class i took in college where we read 'dust bowl: the southern plains in the 1930s' by donald worster, a beautiful and thoroughly researched account of how US policy and agribusiness led to the dust bowl in the 1930s and how the people living through it were affected depending on their economic standing and the wealthiness of their communities, which ends with a well-written and well-supported chapter on how farm policy changes to prevent another dust bowl completely missed the point of why this happened and the only way forward to prevent another ecological disaster is to rip US farm policy up completely and redo it in a sustainable way or history is doomed to repeat itself, and then our professor must have been like 'oh shit this is too left wing we need at least one Conservative Voice' and the next book we read was 'fields without dreams: defending the agrarian ideal' by victor davis hanson, a greek scholar and raisin farmer who i think is the only person on the planet to die on the hill of 'farming is the best and most moral livelyhood like The Greeks/Romans and everyone who isnt a farmer sucks', which is probably why our professor chose it (the exact opposite viewpoint of worster next to the first-hand account of how the raisin market and 1983 crash has fucked him and his family over for decades, which to be fair is a legitimately valuable historical account), but i also could not finish the book even though im fundamentally against not reading the entire book when writing a book report because he kept going off on weird diatribes and included a weirdly long scene where he follows imaginary(??? god i hope it was because it was utterly unhinged) fat people around a local grocery store mentally ridiculing any food they chose to buy that wasnt raisins and then blamed the moral failings (no raisins and fat=evil, full of moral debauchery) of these poor people literally buying food at the grocery store for the raisin prices being so low and his family's diminishing wealth as a result but also said that the only people who eat raisins are granola-chewing libs (who he also hates) and the whole time i was reading it i was like 'oh god please dont be racist dude i cannot not read this book please just talk about your experience as a farmer without being racist' and then he would be racist or say something else absolutely wild (he doesnt believe that native americans lived on his land before him and doesnt care what evidence says otherwise and is SURE to tell us this) and then he bragged about building a physical wall around his home 'for defense like The Greeks/Romans' and anyway i just stopped reading and wrote the report and then went on his wikipedia page a few days later and was like yeah this tracks, this seems like the logical endpoint of this deranged california raisin farmer

I finished The Mars House last night and have been trying to gather my thoughts beyond ADJFAWEHDHA; and AHHHHHHHH. Let's see how this works out.
In a lot of ways this is a pretty typical Natasha Pulley book, which makes you love complicated people who have done bad things, possibly for good reasons and possibly not. The love interest is to all appearances a xenophobic nationalist, but you better believe I loved Gale pretty much immediately.
In other ways this book is different from her past work—obviously there's the far future setting, but it's pretty clear that Pulley wanted to Say Something about gender with The Mars House. This book is a response to and shots fired at the terf ideology and it is not at all subtle about it. And of course, it's a Natasha Pulley book, so there's still empathy for the far-future Martian terfs.
So I would definitely call it the most...political? of her books, which for me was not at all a bad thing. It has everything that I love about Pulley novels—her gorgeous use of language, her ability to wring beauty and pathos out of the small and ordinary, the gay pining, the morally dubious main characters. I've seen reviews say both that the science is ridiculous and that the book is hard science fiction, and I would come down on the side of the science probably being a bit ridiculous, since it's definitely not hard science fiction (lol at the reviewers who are throwing that term around and not knowing what it means). I actually have no idea if the science is plausible or not and I honestly don't care, because that's really not the point of the book.
Anyway, now I'm just going to list things. Doing a read more for spoilers! And I'm not joking, I'm going to spoil the whole book under here so really, if you haven't read it and you care about that, don't keep reading.
The worldbuilding was so good. I mean, this is one of Pulley's strengths, but I had wondered how it would stack up in a sci fi novel versus her historical fiction. As usual, everything was so visceral and textured. Tharsis and Songshu feel like real places I could visit.
THE MAMMOTHS OMG OMG. When they decided to ask the mammoths for help pulling up the gravity train, I almost jumped up from the couch yelling (I would have, but I couldn't disturb my cat who was on my legs). The entire idea of communicating with mammoths and studying mammoth society almost made me cry. Having spent even a tiny amount of time around elephants in the wild, all of that rang 100% plausible. And true in my heart.
I need a sequel where River and January go to Alpha Centauri to talk to the aliens that the Penglai mission is going to find there.
I'M ABOUT TO SPOIL THE ENTIRE BOOK SO DON'T READ ANYMORE IF YOU DON'T WANT THAT.
Speaking of River, yeah I guessed that "Aubrey" was actually River. The clues were well done and I felt smug when I was right.
But!! I actually thought River knew more than they did! A literal chill went up my back when River revealed they had NO IDEA AUBREY WAS LITERALLY IN THEIR ROOM WITH THEM.
The scene in River's bathtub had me screaming crying throwing up.
Is Natasha Pulley working through something re: waifish orphans? I knew Yuan was going to end up being adopted into House Song within pages of their (his?) introduction.
I love that we never find out if River is biologically male or female. I love that January says it doesn't matter and he means that and never tells us.
Speaking of gender abolition, can I have that please for myself.
All of the animals were, as always, a delight. Shoutout to the puffin at the beginning who we never see again, as well as Shuppiluliuma in her basket.
The ancient Mediterranean references littered through this book (see above) were also a delight.
When you think about it, both of Aubrey's consorts fell for River, and that's funny.
The flashes of love between River and Aubrey were devastating.
The haptic implants are a dystopian nightmare and absolutely a realistic prediction of where we're going to end up.
Mori and Daughter!!

so are wild boar still considered “extinct” locally by the humans? given that wild boar in england are currently considered extinct, even though there are pockets of population
(context: i was looking up animals that england has driven to extinction with my partner last night because we were both feeling Some Kind Of Way about species conservation, and how england is basically the worst monster historically in terms of driving entire species to extinction, and continues to be hugely negligible. then i remembered boars in better bones i was like “aren’t there boars?” and then saw that they were also considered extinct, which surprised me)
Yeah England is a fucking monster in terms of bad conservation, and its colonial influence in how OTHER places view conservation can't be understated. But anyway I'll save that for another time
(But like it fucks me up that you guys only have one protected river in the whole UK and it's mostly in Wales. What the fuck. It's been 30 years and they're just now thinking about adding another. Brits in the audience who can i kill for you? If we throw someone in the thames maybe they'll dissolve)
Here's the thing I have in mind; England is so fucked that people don't even know how fucked it is. Do you know how important hogs are to a mixed-oak woodland? What types of moors need burning, grazing, or being left alone? That the entire island of Great Britan is supposed to have a thriving freshwater pearl mussel population? That England isn't supposed to have pine forests?
There is so so so much here to cover and talk about, AND I'm telling this story from the perspective of cats! They have to have encountered the things to know about them, even if it was culturally!
And what that means is that I am willing to bend a couple of things SO that I can include them as part of the story! Things that SHOULD be here, that should be or ARE being reintroduced, especially when they're lesser known.
(In fact I think your boar thing is a perfect example. You're telling me the story I want to hear-- that you heard something offhand, went "woah arent those in this work I'm a fan of?" And then you learned more. Goal accomplished!)
In my head I file boars and mussels under the "Eagle Exception." Something that, with a bit of alt history, could be seen in this environment.
It's based off the canon eagles (which ironically I'm massively downplaying in my rework of the BB!Tribe). The golden eagle has been extinct in England for a very long time, but it's right there in canon, so logically there could be similar animals or reintroduction projects.
List so far;
(Also BB!Great Britan is called Albion to mark that it's a little different.)
Freshwater Pearl Mussels (extinct in White Hart, populated in Sanctuary Lake)
Boars (rare in White Hart, populated in Sanctuary Lake. Replacing the majority of deadly badger and fox encounters because badgers arent bears and foxes arent coyotes, Erin :/)
Golden Eagle (exclusive to Tribe mountain)
Beavers (Being actively reintroduced to parts of Albion in the 2010s)
Wolves (extinct)
Lynxes (suspected extinct; there may be some around specifically because I want to make an example of how non-domestic cats in this universe are non-sapient.)
Salmon (uncommon in White Hart, populated in Sanctuary Lake)
Atlantic Sturgeon (exclusive to Sanctuary Lake, rare even there)
Medicinal Leech (dying population in White Hart since Chelford expansion, extinct in Sanctuary Lake)
Additionally I'm keeping my eye on the European Buffalo (wiseant) reintroduction, but that's not in my modeled region and I don't want to jump the gun on it. Last I checked the project JUST managed to get its bull this year after a long 2020-induced delay

also would take words about demi Eddie!
SO I was gonna just write out a little paragraph or two...and then I did the whole thing. Or an abridged version, at least. I may expand on this someday but for now, enjoy some demi!Eddie.
Eddie’s always known he’s different. Not just because he’s the town freak, or because his tastes tend to differ from almost everyone else’s, or even that he realizes he thinks boys can be just as pretty as girls, if not prettier. Sure, all of that makes him objectively different from the herd of followers that he he’s surround by in a small town like Hawkins.
It takes him a little longer to realize there’s another kind of different to add to his already overflowing plate, though.
Because sure, he can appreciate the way a cheerleader’s skirt swishes around her thighs, or the way the sweat glistens on the jockiest guys’ arms in gym class. And yeah, when he first sees Nancy Wheeler shooting at something with that fierce gleam in her eye, it’s objectively attractive… in a terrifying sort of way.
But Eddie’s very rarely ever wanted to do anything about it. Not until he gets to know someone first, at least. He needs that first spark to burrow deep, for feelings to take root and claw away at him until he can’t not have someone. Except every time Eddie gets to know a crush in any real way, it becomes abundantly clear that his feelings are unrequited, or it takes long enough to realize all he really feels is a platonic sort of love now, anyway.
Flirting is still fun, Eddie thinks. Getting to know new people, to make them blush or flutter their lashes while he learned about their little quirks and dreams and what made them tick? That lit him up like fireworks on the Fourth of July. But so rarely does any of it ever turn into anything deep enough to warrant desire. So few had ever ignited that something more in him—that undeniable gut feeling of want and need and oh god why aren’t we kissing right now?
The few times Eddie actually has managed to feel that way, to develop a deep enough connection to dig into his marrow and let the love and attraction and desire break free? Well, those haven’t turned out so well for him, historically.
He wants so badly to want. For someone to want him just as much. He wants sex to not be going through the motions, getting it over with just so he could say he had, to not feel weird or vaguely wrong every time he tries.
Eddie needs to not want to run.
Instead it’s always that initial rush of this person is so cool, and oh they’re also pretty, then maybe if I get to know them, they’ll finally be someone I can be with, be the person I want to rip my clothes off for.
And they never have been.
Until Steve.
Steve awakens something in Eddie that he genuinely didn’t think existed, a ferocious kind of hunger that is almost always awake and demanding. He needs to touch Steve, needs Steve to touch him and make him feel like the world is spinning off its axis with every heated glance.
He needs to kiss Steve, to slide their tongues together and roam his hands all over Steve’s chest and give Steve every kind of pleasure he’d ever dreamed of and then some.
Steve comes around and all of a sudden Eddie is consumed by fire.
The moans he pulls out of Steve with his mouth don’t just turn Eddie on, they twist his soul. Contort his heart in ways he knows can’t be healthy or normal, but when has Eddie ever wanted to be normal anyway? He’d rather sink deep into this feeling, so raw and intoxicating and utterly new for him that he doesn’t know how to deal with it besides to dive in headfirst. Because Eddie’s been in love before, but no one has ever loved him back. But Steve does, by some strange twist of fate.
And Steve’s love…it’s something so much more than he ever bargained for. It’s a soft sweater in the middle of a crisp fall afternoon, that first taste of your favorite home cooked meal after going without for a while. The way Steve loves is all-encompassing, wild and loyal and unwavering.
Eddie can’t get enough. He’s probably getting ahead of himself, probably letting those feelings he always imagined latch on to his senses and and run away with them, threatening never to let go. But he never wants to let go of Steve, anyway, so where’s the harm, really?
So maybe Eddie’s a little bit weird for how he loves, how he wants—but Steve takes the weird and cradles it, nourishes it and cherishes it as though he wouldn’t want Eddie any other way.
And he proves it every single day.
They're sprawled out in Eddie's bed one afternoon, all lazy strokes and soft kisses and passing the time just being together. Then Steve chuckles a little to himself before asking outright.
“Who are those for?” Steve asks, sly and knowing smile on his face as he nods towards the wall.
The handcuffs. Eddie can't even be bothered to blush, because he knows why Steve is asking.
The cuffs have hung there for ages, because Eddie has been prepared and waiting for this. He’s known he’s a freak for years, knows all the kinks that come with living in his funny little brain. He’s just been dreaming of the right person wandering into his life, for the stars to align enough for them to want to use them.
So without a trace of doubt in his voice, Eddie smiles back and says, “You, baby.”

Francis Drake Main Story
Translations may not always capture the exact nuances or tone of the original text. Expect grammatical errors. I didn't proofread this.
Tumblr media
The historical figures who were resurrected as vampires have made contracts with Comte, except for Napoleon.
Napoleon was revived against his will, without a contract, and had become a being with both human and vampire traits.
Comte: "Based on what I've heard, it's possible that Drake arrived at the mansion through the same circumstances as Napoleon did."
Tumblr media
Comte: "Although it's still a mystery how historical figures can come back to life as sort of half-vampires, even if they didn't ask for it."
Drake: "Hold on."
Drake raised his hand to stop Comte.
Drake: "I can accept that this is the 19th century, but all this talk about resurrections and vampires is getting crazy. Can you at least tell me more about what's happening?"
Drake, who had been smiling nonchalantly, looked confused.
Napoleon: "I understand how you feel."
Mitsuki: "Me too..."
(When I came to the mansion, I couldn't keep up with all the unrealistic stories either.)
I totally understand how Drake felt.
Feeling sympathetic, I decided to make a suggestion to Comte.
Mitsuki: "Comte, I think we need to explain the situation."
Mitsuki: "And since he doesn't have a place to go, why don't we let him stay at the mansion for a while?"
Tumblr media
Drake: "........."
It would have taken at least another month for the door to open again. Even when it did, there was no guarantee it would be stable.
Considering the recent abnormalities in the door, he's lucky he was able to reach the mansion.
And if Drake was supposed to have died in his original time, he may have no place to return to.
Even though it wasn't my problem, just thinking about it made my heart tighten.
Mozart: "Are you crazy? This pirate just attacked us out of nowhere."
Arthur: "I can't say I don't understand the situation. Of course, attacking Mitsuki was unforgivable, but I'm also worried about letting him roam freely."
Dazai: "He's right. It would be a problem if he got a sudden bloodlust and bit someone on the street."
Drake: "Wait, there's a possibility I could turn into some sort of wild animal? Me?"
Sebastian: "On that note, we have both Rouge and Blanc here in the mansion. They should help manage both your meals and impulses."
Napoleon, who had fought with Drake, glanced at him.
Napoleon: "I can't sense any hostile intentions from him anymore. If this guy does something weird, we'll do something about it."
Napoleon: "Right, Jean?"
Tumblr media
Jean: "Of course."
Drake: "You guys are reliable yet intimidating."
Napoleon and Jean nodded to each other, and everyone's gaze turned to Comte.
Leonardo: "What's your decision, Comte?"
Comte: "........."
Comte: "Drake, can you promise not to harm anyone?"
Drake: "Yeah, sure. If you're worried, you can keep an eye on me."
Comte nodded in response and untied the rope binding Drake.
Comte: "Then I welcome you. Maybe you came to this mansion guided by something."
Arthur: "A miraculous and fateful encounter, perhaps?"
Drake: "Seems like an overly dramatic fate to me."
Drake: "Anyway, sorry for the terrible first impression. I'll be in your care from now on, so let's all get along."
Drake chuckled, and I couldn't help but relax along with him.
(He doesn't seem like a bad person.)
Mitsuki: "If there's anything I can do to help, please let me know."
Tumblr media
Drake: "You're such a kind-hearted person."
And so, a new resident joined our mansion.
That night, after the sudden turn of events, I found myself on my bed, flipping through a book I'd brought from the library.
Mitsuki: "I wonder if it's in here. Ah, here it is."
I flipped through the book titled "Historical Figures Who Moved the World" and found the page about the person I was looking for.
The title was Francis Drake, Hero of the Sea. A page dedicated to Drake.
(Sebastian sometimes scolded me for being clueless, so I should at least learn something about Drake since we're going to live together from now on.)
The book mainly recorded Drake's accomplishments.
("He was the second person in history to circumnavigate the world. Queen Elizabeth awarded him the title of knight for his achievements during the voyage.")
Tumblr media
(He discovered the Drake Passage during his voyage. Come to think of it, I've seen it on the map!)
I was surprised to learn that the famous landmark on the map was named after him.
At the same time, it was mentioned that he had committed numerous acts of piracy, such as attacking enemy ships and looting valuables.
(For his homeland, he was a hero, but for someone else, he was an enemy. He lived his life amid conflict.)
I couldn't help but feel the light and shadow of history after learning the background of this historical figure.
As I continued reading, I found a description that caught my attention.
Mitsuki: "After his death due to illness, his body was placed in a lead coffin and submerged in the sea."
Mitsuki: "A sea burial?"
(History says he died and was laid to rest.)
(I wonder if something happened at that time that caused him to come back to life like Napoleon?)
I closed the book I had finished reading and lay down on the sheets.
(I never thought someone would come through that door.)
He didn't seem anxious or troubled, but he's in an unfamiliar place, so he might still face some challenges.
With that in mind, I fell asleep.
The next morning一
Drake: "Morning, little fawn."
Tumblr media
Mitsuki: "G-Good morning, Drake."
When I came to the dining room in the morning, Drake greeted me cheerfully.
However, there was something that caught my attention.
(Does he mean me when he says little fawn?)
Mitsuki: "Um, Drake, my name is..."
Drake: "Hm? Isn't it Mitsuki? Am I wrong?"
Mitsuki: "No, you're right!"
However, what caught my attention even more was Napoleon slumped over the table beside me.
Mitsuki: "Good morning, Napoleon. You're up early today."
Napoleon: "I didn't sleep."
Mitsuki: "Huh!?"
Drake: "Haha! Last night was fun."
Apparently, after that incident, Drake received some explanations from Comte.
Comte told him that the door could potentially connect at any point in time as long as it was working normally.
He also told him about the vampire's nature and that this mansion was home to historical figures from various eras and nations.
After that, Napoleon spent the night with Drake, serving as both his guard and companion.
Drake: "Our situations are pretty similar, so I had a lot of questions for him."
Tumblr media
Napoleon: "Then we got carried away and ended up talking all night."
Sebastian: "I heard they chatted the whole night. It would've been cool to eavesdrop on their conversation!"
Sebastian, who came out of the kitchen, offered Napoleon a warm cup of tea instead of coffee.
Drake: "Napoleon was not only a military commander, but also the Emperor of France. No wonder he's so strong."
Napoleon: "Stop teasing me."
Drake playfully slapped Napoleon on the shoulder, and Napoleon, with his eyes half-closed, swayed sleepily.
(Napoleon is a heavy sleeper, so he must have been tired.)
(It feels like they've gotten a lot closer.)
Napoleon: "I'm at my limit. I'll leave this guy to you."
Mitsuki: "Okay. Good night, Napoleon."
Napoleon stood up and left the dining room unsteadily.
After seeing Napoleon off, Drake let out a big yawn.
Drake: "Fuwah. I'm getting sleepy too."
Drake: "But before that, I'm hungry."
(This guy is so straightforward when it comes to his desires.)
(But come to think of it, he's also half like Napoleon, so he's probably hungry too.)
Sebastian: "I'll prepare breakfast. Please wait a moment."
Drake: "Sure. So you guys are on cooking duty?"
Mitsuki: "Yup. Is there anything specific you want to eat this morning?"
Drake: "Let's see."
Drake: "Blood."
(What!?)
Drake: "Just kidding. I thought vampires could only drink blood, but I'm glad they can eat regular food too."
(He said it so seriously that it caught me off guard.)
Tumblr media
Drake: "I'll leave breakfast up to you."
Mitsuki: "Okay. Then I'll make pancakes!"
Drake: "It's nice to have a meal without any trouble. On the ship, there's always a bunch of hungry men fighting over food."
Drake: "Plus, it's great to have a pretty girl like you cooking for me."
Mitsuki: "You're quite the smooth talker, aren't you?"
As I responded, feeling a bit flustered, Theo suddenly chimed in.
Theo: "Are you also a flirt like Arthur?"
Vincent: "Good morning, Mitsuki, Sebas, and Drake."
Theo and Vincent came to the dining room.
Drake: "Let's see, you guys are the famous Van Gogh brothers, right?"
Drake: "The angel brother and the devil brother, as Arthur said."
Vincent: "I often hear that, but I think Theo is the real angel."
Theo: "B-Broer."
Drake: "Haha! Vincent, you're such a doting older brother."
(He interacts with anyone so casually.)
It might be a little unusual for someone to get so close to others in this mansion.
Theo: "Hey, Drake. Don't call him that so casually."
Drake: "Oh, then Vincent big bro."
Mitsuki ▪︎ Theo: "Vincent big bro!?"
Hearing him say that to Vincent made both Theo and me yell unintentionally.
Vincent: "Big bro. Fufu, it's refreshing to hear that since no one called me that before."
Drake: "It looks like he likes it."
Tumblr media
Theo: "Rejected! And stop being so happy about it, broer."
Sebastian: "Drake has incredible social skills."
Mitsuki: "Pffft…ahahaha!"
I couldn't help but burst out laughing as I caught Sebastian secretly taking notes in his diary.
Tumblr media
For some reason, after finishing his pancakes, Drake started arranging the chairs in a perfect row.
Drake: "*yawn* I'm really sleepy. I'll just take a quick nap. Nighty night."
Mitsuki: "Hey, Drake! You can't sleep here!"
Drake: "Huh, I can't? Then I'll sleep on the floor."
Mitsuki: "That's not allowed either!"
(We shouldn't encourage more people to sleep anywhere like Leonardo!)
Mitsuki: "Sebastian, is there any unused room available?"
Sebastian: "I'll need to confirm with Comte first, though if ever there is, it might not be clean."
Sebastian: "Let me show you to the guest room for now. Mitsuki, please help me prepare it."
After preparing the guest room for him to lie down, he nodded and smiled, saying it was more than enough.
Mitsuki: "Then, take your time and relax, Drake."
Drake: "Hmm. Thanks for going through the trouble, Sebastian and Mitsuki."
Just as I was about to leave the room after Sebastian一
Mitsuki: "Waah!"
He suddenly grabbed my arm and pulled me back into the room.
Tumblr media
He pressed me against the wall, and his face came close to mine, his eyes cold.
Drake: "Hey, Mitsuki. Did you tame everyone in this mansion with your blood?"

Hi! I come to you for advice, as I trust your opinion in matters like this. Me being just a casual viewer of war shows, not interested in it just for the genre, should I watch Masters of the Air or not? Thank you in advance! 💖
Augh, I answered this, then my browser crashed not helpful. Anyway, the gist of this is, I am not a casual war shows enjoyer, but I am going to do my best on this front given I know the one war show I know that we both enjoy.
tl;dr: I think MotA has good characters, doesn't sacrifice telling a good story for historical accuracy and I've watched it like, three or four times now already.
So actually yeah, I'd suggest giving MotA a shot. I will not be offended if you don't like it, but I do think it's worth it.
Longer answer under the cut (and sorry, I did get rambly):
While MotA looks from the outside as more of an ensemble piece, it's really about four guys, and two of those guys are a Set. It is also very historically accurate, but it doesn't feel like they got super hung up on that, they get the balance that this is still a historical fiction show.
They do change things up in places for the sake of the narrative. This doesn't always work, a couple of plot threads get dropped in what I feel are clunky ways. Honestly, I think they just tried to do too much and it meant some things didn't get the weight they needed. Still, I found it a mostly cohesive story and strong enough to follow each of our main guys.
Be warned though: there are timeskips a lot in the second half of the series. These are telegraphed quite well but can be a little jarring. This does cause some minor characters to appear to randomly disappear.
They also do not shy away from injury or other horrors of war, so be prepared for that. If you want fuller content warnings, up for that.
So really, it comes down to if you think you're gonna enjoy these four guys:
Gale "Buck" Cleven and John "Bucky" Egan
Tumblr media
The very quick way to describe these two are the classic quiet guy/wild child pair, but I think that does them a bit of a disservice because there's depth to both characters that really gets borne out over the course of the nine episodes. Bucky gets a lot more to work with outwardly, but I think they're both gorgeous characters. Their love for each other and how it is tested and reinforced and drives them is a huge part of this show. Austin Butler and Callum Turner have great chemistry, and in both cases, there is a real solid presence of the other when they're in scenes alone. Loved their dynamic with each other and with the men they lead.
2. Harry Crosby
Tumblr media
Understated protagonist. He also gets a great character arc over nine episodes. Anthony Boyle is incredible in the role and makes him one of the most likeable and engaging characters I've ever seen. IRL Croz wrote a memoir A Wing and a Prayer which is refreshingly frank and quite funny in parts too, and I think that really serves here.
3. Robert "Rosie" Rosenthal
Tumblr media
We don't get to meet him till a few episodes in, so he doesn't get as grand an arc as the others, but I think that works because we get to really hit the story of a guy who just wants to serve justice being flung immediately into an ongoing horror. We get to immediately contrast him with the guys who have been around longer. Also he's really beautiful and SO GOOD AT HIS JOB my God.
Also, while there are supporting characters, none of them really get the focus these ones do, so expectations should be managed on that front. That said, the actors are all great so I personally feel you do get a hold on who they are. Nobody expects you to know everyone's names. I am still only 70% sure I know who Murphy is.
(as usual, my favourite guy is a supporting guy but at least he gets some narrative explicitly discussing him and his job and also he's Raff Law so like, his face is distinctive).
Also Corin is in it for a couple of scenes so you should watch those if nothing else.
Tumblr media
apologies for that getting long i love my boys but i also tried to be conscious of my war media nerd hat

Another post pointed out yesterday that the Clave was so progressive in the 1800s and (especially) 1900s while being incredibly regressive in the 2000s-2010s. This is inarguably true. It also inarguably is true to real life when it comes to views on homosexuality. While male homosexuality was illegal in the UK during the Victorian/Edwardian eras, many (though not all) people tended to turn a blind eye to it assuming that everyone involved minded their business. (Oscar Wilde, for a relevant example, was pretty widely known as being a man who loved other men. He probably would have been able to carry on as he was if not for suing a powerful and influential public figure. But I digress).
Also, it's important to note that, yeah, the TLH kids' parents were overall loving and accepting people. The one who was not such a person blessedly died before his son came out. On the other hand, Alec's parents were in a literal hate cult. But once again, digression.
Because what I really want to talk about are Shadowhunter's shifting attitudes to technology and innovation. I would like to posit that Christopher Lightwood's death was the beginning of the downfall of innovation in Shadowhunter society.
In TID, Henry contends with mockery and side glances because of his drive to invent and create. This makes sense in what his son will later describe as an "arid warrior culture." However, while generally labeled as an eccentric, the Clave - including the Consul and Inquisitor - generally leave him alone to tinker and build. No one stops him. And when he finally invents the Portal, no one shirks it. By the time TLH rolls around, it's a widely-used, widely-respected part of Shadowhunter society. It's ingrained in the fabric of their people just as steles and seraph blades are, and we still see them widely in use in the modern day.
Now, we get to Christopher, Henry's protigee.
It's important to acknowledge that Christopher may have been left alone in part because Henry's Portal was so successful. With him primarily hanging about in the Fairchild lab, nothing could go wrong. Additionally, Charlotte was Consul, and she knew how brilliant her husband was. This probably contributed to Christopher's success greatly.
Christopher grows up shrouded in this love. He is free to create and innovate as he pleases, and he comes up with the idea for fire-messaging. We see him successfully invent fire-messages by early 1904, at which point he is tragically killed by Belial.
Fire-messages are the final piece of technology that we see invented before the TMI era. All other technologies in the modern TSC canon exist in the historical stories. Thus, we can conclude that Christopher's fire-messages are one of the last creations of Shadowhunter society.
(ADHD side ramble: I'm interested to see what Grace manages to accomplish, but I cannot think of something in the modern TMIverse that she may have created. I imagine that her status as not only a woman but a widely-disliked social pariah held her back. Hate it, but my point stands. I hope she's at least given a small amount of credit for the final touches on the fire-messages.)
Anyway, fast forward to 2012. The TSCverse now has another brilliant neurodivergent mind in Tiberius Nero Blackthorn. Of course, he is extremely different from Henry and Christopher. He is more mentally present, serious-minded, and a lot less spacey. But he also views things in a significantly different way than other Shadowhunters do, finding himself drawn to technology like computers in a way that most Nephilim would shirk.
Ty and his family are forced to keep the fact that they have computers in the Institute a secret. This is likely in part because mundanes invented them, but it also feels inconsistent with previous generations. Shadowhunters of old appreciated art; Jem and Alastair were openly musicians, for example. Matthew is an obvious aesthete with a penchant for the theatre and artistic pursuits. Even when Alastair notes that they aren't supposed to like mundane things like moving pictures, he does not seem worried about facing repercussions for seeing one. Ty and the other Blackthorns seem to think that they will see legal ramifications for having a computer, and this is in a world where Jia Penhallow is Consul.
Could the Blackthorns be wrong? Sure. But it feels to me that the Shadowhunters of old would not shirk a useful technology, and the computer has limitless capacity to assist them in their demon-fighting endeavors.
The Clave closed itself off to progress shortly after TLH, and Christopher's death feels a likely catalyst for that.

GREETINGS!!! I just read through the wasteland doc and hough. . . it's really really awesome. Do you mind if I share some ideas? (rhetorical. you don't have much of a choice)
Okay, so about some of the toxic sludge stuff; what if it and the alchemist stone are related somehow/derived of the same stuff? Maybe the sludge is like. really temperamental to being handled but if handled PROPERLY it has some. WILD effect. and maybe that's one of the reasons they were testing it on the ishvalen people; to test out what lengths they could go with it? Perhaps through this experimentation they figured out. Wait. What the fuck? This stone thing that we just derived from this sludge and like. these people(idk. maybe it reacts with a blood/sludge ration that is like. super high in human blood but still need s a lot of sludge and thats why they need so many people to make it(or, another idea. maybe using some of the sludge in like. a single humans blood or something and it'll react with a human being as its environment. and make a minimal amount of like. basically the philosophers stone and they need to harvest a LOT but humans don't make much and get killed through it. idk)) but like.using these people and this sludge will make these stones that are SOOO powerful? Also maybe. The reason they raided ishval is because they historically were the main people who had the sludge and had like. writings and stuff making use of the sludge(in minimal amounts. maybe it's also like a religious piece?) and like. idk. And maybe also!! The way the sludge is mass processed/produced/whatever makes it toxic if not done correctly and needs like. special treatment in small batches to make it OK. anyways. Also IDK if you have stuff on Hohenheim yet . . .But I think it would be cool if he was like. One of the people to discover the sludge? Maybe you can keep him super old because he was the group to discover the sludge + with the properties the sludge can have, it kept him from aging or something(IDK if this would really fit the vibe all that well so. shrugs). maybe hohenheim had a twin brother(or childhood bestfriend even. they would probably have to be close) that acts as the homonculus/father? and they found the sludge together. but what hohenheim had regretted his brother indulged and basically did the whole. capitalize indutrial whatever thing to it. And hohenheim wants to stop that. The homonculus works from the shadows and maybe had like the sins working under him as a shadow thing for. whatever evil capitalism reasons. yeah. OH WAIT OTHER IDEA I HAD FOR HOHENHEIM that MIGHT be able to fit into the same thing with the sludge. Maybe he was a former outlaw that wanted to settle down? But he found it too risky to put Ed and Trish and Al in the way so he left. Maybe he became an outlaw because of the Homonculus wanting to et him out of the picture because they didn't share views(or maybe he tried to take him down spesifically and failed which turned him into an outlaw and the homonuculus decided he was to dangerous to be kept around and started to hunt him)? So he turned him into an outlaw. And kept an ear out for him and when Hohenheim knew they were close and there were chances of him being caught. He left. IDK. ALSO. I know you mentioned in the Doc that Al being in so much pain all the time from the sludge stuff eating away at him and how it's a major source of angst/guilt for Ed. But because I am a sucker for Al not being able to feel anything what if he like. Got his nerves to be 'paralyzed' or something? To the point where be can't really like. feel anything. It's a trade off; he either feels so much pain or nothing at all. Maybe it eats away at Ed because like. He put him into a position where he either feels a shit ton of pain all the time or he feels nothing and that's not fair. Anyways. I'm pretty sure I had more to write but I can't remember. So I might come back later if you'll allow it. these are all just suggestions btw. you don't have to listen to anything I say and tweak anything that you see fit. also ssorry if this is like. a jumble of nonsense. articulating can be hard BTW I absolutely ADORE your art. It's literally so swag. like the way you color and do clothes. . . SO scrummy. I hope your day is nice :))
OUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHHHHHHH OUUUH I LOVE THIS I SUPER SUPER LOVE THE HOHENHEIM BEING AN OUTLAW THAT WANTS TO SETTLE BUT ULTIMATELY LEAVES TO KEEP TRISHA ED AND AL SAFE... shakes my fist at hoheinheim. if he knew/helped with all of the research before hand and then went rouge.... everyone and their mom in the government body would be hunting down his ass
you actually got pretty close from the shite i was thinkin for the sludge too?? like the uhhhh its super temperamental but is an incredible material when handled correctly??? like the reason the train cart full of it is on their property when theyre young is bc it was being transported cross country to central... for "science"... and it derails for some reason. explosion. and the longer it sits out in the country side the more it like... drains the environment. hence it being an Awful substance unless in a controlled environment and used properly. it being native to ishval would also lend to why it would literally be so invasive to resembool but hmmmmm... evil substances...
I was also thinking. ohhh what would the homunculus be. they. they could BE made out of it. or are just humans that are infected/injected with it like how king bradley is with the philosophers stone but instead of it just being bradley its all of them. also bc i like thinking of what their backstories could be. thinkin about lust in a saloon dress has me weak in the knees
BUT THIS KINDA BRINGS UP WHAT I hinted at somewhere in some tags but like. i was thinkin about . uhhhmm . the mold from re7/8. which after looking briefly through a google search bc ive got some silly idea of it in my head is described as a superorganism that is also literally just mold. it has some kind of consciousness to it, like memory. idk if it has empathy or emotions though.... either way it was used to create eveline, who does have some kind of empathy and emotions, and she can both control it and use its consciousness network ??? sorry i literally cannot think of any proper way to describe this atm but. i was like. oh THIS could be what the homunculus are. they could be like eveline to the mold network.
and ethan gets infected with the mold and bc of that he's able to stick his limbs back on with some goddamn peroxide and literally survive fatal wounds... i was like... ohhhhh what if..... what if at some point.................... ed gets infected by the sludge (perhaps unknowingly).... and sees the homunculus regrow their limbs (idk if mold would do that in resident evil games but this is now in my hands).... and hes like..... oh my god. Oh my god. We. We can get it back. We can get our bodies back.
BUT IF. IF the sludge has the same consciousness network bullshit that the mold does in RE... alongside the hallucinations n stuff... it could literally eating away at ed's sanity and al is like uhm the fuck not we are not fucking doing that . we're getting goddamn vaccinated. but the allure of having a body back...
I KNOW I SO AGREE al not being able to perceive feelings while being in the armor is soooo chefs kiss and RELEARNING how to be human again is even LARGER CHEFS KISS. but youre so right. it was 100% like that so it can be angst for ed. you mentioning this reminded me of a fic i read where ed smokes opium for pain relief and i was like oh what if al did that? since he's essentially a giant walking open wound? but idk... it would wean into drug abuse bc how could it NOT with the sheer amount of pain he would be in. i might think on it a little more but substance abuse is a topic I'm not super familiar with yet so.....
I HADNT EVEN THOUGHT ABOUT FATHER,, ohhhh you are one helluva thing to tackle my good friend. this is going on the back burner.
you are always welcome to say more!! i love listening. I'm literally kickin my feet and giggling reading messages like these. u have brilliant things to say love

Build A Cowboy Round 5!
Hi good evening sorry for vanishing OK SO i mentioned in the tags of my first poll that this cowboy is not just going to be a vaguely historical cowboy, but from a Very specific time frame, because of the fic that his partner Javi exists in. That being said, there is a lot to unpack here with this! The time period exactly is 1841, the setting is Texas (because I am texan and we are predictable) and oh my god this is one of the most insane times for a character to be from texas 😭
Our cowboy will have in fact lived through the Mexican War of Independence (1810-1821), the Texas Revolution (1835-1836), tx's CRINGEFAIL attempt at self governing, rapidly approaching our annexation into the US in 1844-5, and then coming right up on the fuckign CIVIL WAR in 1861. These guys deeply understand the concept of "get me the fuck out of the interesting times, im sick of the interesting times". im so sorry cowboys, you can blame Herman Melville for this.
anyways yall didnt come here for a history lesson but you are in fact going to get one because i am insufferable first and an artist second :) and also as a note, race and backstory are always intertwined things but Especially when it is fuckign 1841 so. yeah exercise caution, there will be discussion of racism, medical close-calls, and anti-indigenous genocide. PLEASE ACTUALLY READ THE BACKGROUNDS BEFORE CHOOSING ONE! you dont have to read the sources. those are just there because i have autism. 👍
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
DETAILS BELOW THE READMORE BC I GOT WAYYY TOO WORDY⬇️
BACKSTORY A: Black Cowboy fled Texas* to Oklahoma with his family after the revolution, now travels up the trade routes breaking wild horses, passing along abolitionist messages, and assisting refugees. A miracle baby surviving a cleft lip with limited surgery and sustained permanent hearing damage as a result, he took up the trade of horsebreaking with flying colors, keeping right up with his older brothers. A sharp shot, keen eye, and a talented horseman, his best trained horses help him identify sounds that he otherwise can't hear. Loosely familiar with PSL, but primarily used a mix of lip-reading, localized/community generated sign growing up.
* After the US aided Texas in staging a coup against Mexico and declaring independence, an ordinance passed in 1836 that fully banished free Black people from the region unless they had personal pardon from Congress. This ordinance was not passed without pushback, and it changed shape and restriction over the years as people of color such as Joseph Tate, John and Charity Bird, Diana Leonard, Allen Dimery, and more all fought for their right to their own lands and lives. The law eventually settled into what was known as the Ashworth Act in 1840, which allowed free Black people to stay IF they had been residing in the state before 1836. It certainly wasn't the victory many had hoped, and even though many free Black persons in Texas were granted pardon to stay, like the Ashworths who the act was named after, many others were forced to leave after their allotted time was up, and were threatened with the future of slavery should they return. thank you texas history for being a vile piece of shit 👍
BACKSTORY B: Mexican/Tejano Vaquero from West Texas whose family has been ranching and cattle driving for decades. Has no interest in moving post-revolution, fuck you very much. If the borders are going to cross his family without asking*, then there's no need to cross them back. Technically lives with his family, but spends extensive periods of time away from home on cattle drives. Steady-handed, steadfast, quick to keep his herd safe. Miraculously survived a cleft lip as a baby and sustained permanent hearing damage** as a result, but that didn't stop his father from teaching him everything he knew, nor our man from taking to it like a fish to water. Knows more about cattle driving than you will ever forget.
*Some brief notes on the borders shifting and alienating people in their own rightful land.
**There was no official sign language of Mexico until the first Deaf school was established in 1869, but he and his family likely have a community-based one that works for them.
BACKSTORY C: Coahuiltecan (specifically Payaya)* cowboy, farrier, and leatherworker. Picked up the line of work as family was pushed to assimilate, one of the few still claiming Coahuiltecan identity at this time**, and has made a good living for himself and his sisters with it. Like the others, miraculously survived a cleft lip as a child but sustained permanent hearing damage as a result. Knows Plains Indian Sign fluently, and also relies on the direction of his horse for picking up sudden sounds before he can spot them. Tries to keep his work as local as possible to avoid separation from family for long, and whenever that is necessary, makes sure to come back soon.
*Note: Coahuiltecan is a term referring to several northern-Mexican and southern-Texan autonomous groups with distinct cultural differences. However, since Spanish and French colonizers lumped these groups together, an immense amount of distinguishing knowledge has since been lost.
** Also note: the Tāp Pīlam Coahuiltecan Nation is still very much around today (check out their site!) but nearing the mid 19th century, people at least claiming/listing this heritage on legal documents dwindled immensely for a variety of reasons.

I'm d e e p l y over the casual tolerance for AI ""artists"" and ""art"" within fandom...
Like, sorry, I don't trust folks using that shit as far as I can throw them, with one of my hands tied behind my back. The supposed hours of work they put into editing images that AI produces based off of artwork that's very often snatched without permission-
AI that is trained with stolen artwork!!!! Mind you!!!!
Yeah, ooo, like. Three or four hours fiddling with one image in Photoshop, spending an hour or two "picking out the correct words to get the right results" or what have you, and it STILL has blatant mistakes, or it's clear that nothing new and interesting and creative is being done with it!
Maybe, big big maybe, I could forgive the concept, if someone was like.... Genuinely making like. Wild collage work. Or heavily painting over AI generated shit. Maybe. But from what I've seen?? Nooo. No respect from me...
Don't even talk to me about AI Art that's supposed to emulate fanart. The amount of discrepancies and inaccuracies that I see? Backgrounds that have no logic to them. How fabric folds, or how limbs ought to be placed, or something meant to be a vague ear or some weird hair ornament, but there's no substance to it, like... and this is meant to be AFTER someone with a "sharp eye" has edited the damned thing, like...
No. Anyway you slice and dice it, there is no artistry to be found here. People who try passing themselves off as "AI Artists" should quit while they're ahead, pick up some fucking paper and pencil, and start sketching. Do something real. Do something raw. Don't come into my spaces, and act like you're wrongfully vilified, when I can't know if you're going to snatch mine and all my friends art, our WIPs, fuck, our writing??? Right from under our noses. To train your shitty damn AI. Or to simply slap an AI filter over it, and pass it off as your own fucking work. I've seen that shit done before! None of us fucking deserve that.
Damn right you, the AI Artist, is unwelcome.
You don't get to feel welcome in most spaces, when you work with something that's historically being used to piggyback off the gruelling hard work and effort of traditional and digital artists, who break their backs and sprain their wrists, drawing and painting for literally hundreds of hours at a time. How can we ever trust a self described AI Artist? Trust off of word and woe is me vibes alone?? No, fuck that.
Anyway, fucking. If you make art of any kind, and have a PC, Glaze your work. Nightshade your work. I know it feels very "We're already so far gone, why bother trying anymore." but... Your work matters. Your effort matters. And it deserves to be cherished, loved, praised, without the potential of somebody else nabbing it, and casting doubt on whether you're the real deal, or the person with the trained AI is the real deal.
You deserve better than to have that happen to you. Protect your art.

Watch Pokemon Legends A-Z eventually disprove everything I say here but oh well, thought I'd share anyway- POKEMON LORE THEORY/HEADCANON!!
Spoilers? Not really, only if you really want to exclusively discover historical events lore FROM within the games.. Which this applies to mainly gen 6-8.. There's a cornflake of gen 9 lore.
30,000 years ago:
Eternatus comes down on the Crown Tundra in Galar, inside a meteor. Eternatus is weak and stays there slumbering. Not much changes about Galar except obviously the crater made by it.
Unspecified time between 30,000 & 3,000 years: A war is waged in the Kalos Region
3,000 years ago:
AZ's Floette is killed in the war in the Kalos region
AZ uses special crystals(tera crystals) from the Paldea region to construct the ultimate weapon, infused with the life force of other pokemon to power it and bring his Floette back to life and granting himself immortality in the process.. but then wanted revenge on those who killed his floette.
the ultimate weapon is detonated for destruction this time, wiping out ANYTHING in its radius, sending shock waves through the earth- massive earthquakes and access amounts of energy released across the land
this energy is passed all the way across the sea and into Galar, being immediately absorbed by the sleeping Eternatus
this causes Eternatus to awaken and go haywire. It starts releasing the newly obtained energy into the land, causing wild Pokemon to grow huge & powerful (dynamax), this is the darkest day
Debris(Pieces of the Ultimate Weapon) are scattered across Kalos, these will become Mega-stones, they are a lot like the Tera crystals of Paldea but infused with power from the pokemon sacrificed for it.
2 young warriors of Galar who are partners to young Zacian & Zamazenta, seek to stop the Darkest Day to end its destruction as giant Pokemon graze their kingdom- with their sword & shield, Zamazenta & Zacian are able to negate Eternatus' power to defeat it, sending it back to its slumber in the the crater from where it came.
these 2 warriors are crowned kings for their heroic actions
However this does not remove the energy released into the earth, and Galar now has its phenomenon that'll become known as "dynamax power". Energy from the ultimate weapon that had been corrupted by Eternatus.
the war in Kalos is promptly ended because almost everything is DEAD
Unspecified time after this:
People of Galar will learn control & even use this energy for their own. Keeping the energy more stable by letting it be absorbed for use as electricity. Although this does very slowly burn away the energy.. and one day it could still run out
AZ's brother buries the ultimate weapon to prevent it from being used again
these strange powerful stones scattered across Kalos will be discovered and polished, then used by trainers in battle as "mega evolution". And slowly start being distributed to other regions(like Hoenn) for use..
And that's my take! The thing with tera crystals being used to make the ultimate weapon might seem like a reach and yeah- it is, I just REALLY wanted all three of these elements to be related in some way and initially was gonna say the crater in Paldea was somehow caused by the weapon but then discovered I guess the crater was canonically created MILLIONS OF YEARS AGO so.. decided to go the other way. And the thing with eternatus absorbing the energy is just cuz nothing I found explicitly says Eternatus had caused dynamax energy in the region since it first fell on Earth..
Btw Eternatus is also an ultra-beast, but z-crystals don't have any relation to these events as they are canonically shards from Necrozma.
There's probably a million little plot-holes to this but ya know.. it's all in good fun :D I think it's neat anyway.

It was the Director's cut!
I have no idea how I would cut twenty minutes out of that movie. Presumably I've seen the theatrical release at some point, but it was so long ago, that I can't even remember what they cut, and the last time I watched this I watched the Director's cut.
Anyway, it's a great movie and watching it again only solidified that for me. It's funny to me that people talk about having seen it in music class, as...it is so historically inaccurate. It's, okay, here's a good analogy. Amadeus is to history as my fanfic is to Sailor Moon. It's more about "what could we do with the the idea of this?" more than anything that actually happened. Salieri was a married man. Mozart was not put into a mass grave. I would not show this to anyone to learn literally any historical fact.
BUT, what I do love about it, is it's a story about jealousy, and what's so striking about that jealousy is Salieri has INCREDIBLE success in his lifetime. This would be like me being...I don't know, John Grisham. And I am very financially secure off my writing, and people go, 'Oh yeah! John Grisham, i like him" but I see someone who is a genius, who is such a good writer that I can feel the way they are built naturally for the things I have worked so hard for. She's not enjoying wild success, has tons of debts, etc. I have nothing to fear except the fact that I KNOW it's some of the most incredible writing in the world, and I will never ever be that. And it makes me so angry that I take on a war with God, with said writer as the pawn. Ignoring everything I have, every accolade I should be happy with, because I unfortunately am talented enough to see true genius and it consumes me.
Is that not an incredible topic for a story? The idea that only being touched by God in that way would ever be enough. He recognizes his own comfortable mediocrity, and it consumes him. What is it like to be the also-ran, Amadeus asks of us.
ANYHOW WOW YOU ASKED NONE OF THIS, but, great film.

Historical Research on the Wild West Chapter of Live-A-Live!
(That no one asked for, but you’re getting anyway hehe)
So first, I really want to be able to securely say around what year this chapter takes place in. Just judging from the whole setting it’s likely somewhere from the late 1800s to early 1900s. But can we get more specific? Uh, yes and no.
Let’s look at Sundown and Mad Dog’s pistols!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So the Colt Single Action Army (aka “Peacemaker”) was first produced in 1873-1941. Assuming that Sundown has the first version of the pistol and assuming their story doesn’t take place in the 1950s, we know that the chapter takes place in those years.
Now, Mad Dog’s pistol, the Buntline Special, is weird because it didn’t actually exist in production until 1957. First, it was fictionalized (maybe real?) in a novel published in 1931 that describes these pistols being commissioned and gifted to five lawmen in 1876.
Tumblr media
Aaand apparently only one of the men who received the special long-barreled pistol kept it at 12-inch. But that aside, I’m going to assume that Mad Dog either commissioned this pistol for himself or was maybe even one of the men who received it as a gift? (I’m going to go out on a limb and say he wasn’t that popular though.)
So great! 1876, maybe a few years after seems like a good starting point. And depending on how long they’ve had those pistols when the story started, I would securely put their chapter in the mid-to-late 1880s, possibly early 1890s.
But is there anything else to back up this claim?? You bet!
Let’s talk about Custer’s 7th! (Which I can’t believe took me so long to Google and see that it’s real and not made up lmao)
The supposed massacre of Custer’s 7th (supposed because while there was a huge battle that Custer’s 7th lost; it did not completely wipe out their forces) took place in 1876. Notice a pattern yet?
Tumblr media
Witt these three significant details with dates on them, adding a decent amount of years, I think the chapter is meant to take place in the 1880s, possibly early 1890s. It really depends on how much time you think should pass from these events to the present chapter. (Correct me if I’m wrong but there’s no specific mention of when Sundown became an outlaw, right?)
But anyway, this was only one thing I wanted to research. Then I noticed that Mad Dog sometimes has a noticeably different vocabulary from those around him, and knowing that he probably (secretly) reads a lot of old books and plays, I was curious if his vocabulary could tell us anything about what he reads the most.
The first word I noticed was “aspersions”, so let’s look at Google’s Ngram viewer that takes the frequency of certain words in their books database to see when a word was used. I recognize that this is not the most thorough or reliable way to get this information, but I think it’s at least a good starting point.
Tumblr media
And…wow, ok, yeah that’s a pretty significant jump in the use of the word “aspersions” in literature. I think we can at least say it wasn’t a popular word in the late 1880s where we’ve already placed them, but it was very popular in the 1700s.
Let’s take a look now at “valiant” and “conscience”.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah that’s definitely a similar pattern I’d say.
Now, how about “sentiment” and “simpletons” (which genuinely surprised me)?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Would you look at that, it’s the same pattern again!!
And just to prove this isn’t the nature of Google Ngram, but actually something significant, let’s look at soirée!
Tumblr media
The opposite of our pattern so far!
While, I’m not saying this is the most factually sound, I am saying Mad Dog’s preferred literature is from the 1700s and no one can change my mind on this.
For those of you who know books better than me (and read all of this?? Hi) if you have any ideas as to specific books he probably read and enjoyed and let shape his personality…please oh please tell me, I’ll give you a little virtual kiss on the cheek if you do.
Anyway this is my research?? On their chapter so far. If you read all of this thank you!! Now I know you’re just obsessed with these cowboys as I am. And if you have any questions or anything to add please feel free to let me know!!

PJO TV SHOW Reaction Episode 4
Alright, time to see how he went from the Arch to the River (As a midwesterner, that always bugged me). As always, at least slight spoilers for potentially future seasons
But first, flashbacks! Baby Percy is scared to swim and that is frankly adorable
This wholesome flashback is now interrupted by a terrifying nightmare
Thalia discussion!!!
Ah Lil Annabeth has a cute sleeping cap
Thalia and Luke! and Little Annabeth! I hope we can see that flashback
Where is grover in their sleeping area?
Ah more Godly Criticism about their shitty ass parenting. And shitty mortal parenting from Frederick and Stepmom
Oh there's Grover. Cute Lil grouchy sleepy Grover
Sorry, these kids are adorable and I am not ready for the horrors they are about to face
Oh sweeties, never try and figure out a prophecy. You'll just get a headache
Centaurs!!! And pollution :( Pan mention!!!
Oh good, Annabeth is speaking truth about the prophecies.
What is up with their cabin?
Oh Annabeth...
Percy, trust me, you don't want to meet the werewolves
Oh! Echidna! So she trashed their room for the bolt? Makes more sense than Zeus sending her to kill Percy and preventing them from getting the bolt tbh
Echidna, you are being very creepy, and cant Grover smell her? Oh but he did figure out the smashed window, good for him
I'm sorry. But cute little Percy is not very intimidating. Don't worry, you'll get there eventually
"This has always been a family story" Yeah i guess that's true. I love this conversation of Monsters and Demigods
Ok nevermind she does want to kill them. Was she sent by Zeus tho?
And Percy got stabbed. That's not good
I love a good ole creepy train scene
Oh, we are making the Arch an Athenian temple? That's pretty cool actually... I think? If we ignore the whole racist/entitled Manifest Destiny aspect of what the arch represents and how it led to the genocide of Native Americans, destruction of nature, and the near eradication of wild buffalo and wolves....
(I just like the idea that monuments are secret temples. I wonder if Hoover Dam is one too. That could actually lead to a whole debate/discussion/headcanons. Is it just Greek? What about the Washington Monument as an Egyptian symbol? What about Leif Erickson in Canada? What about Museums? Is the Statue of Liberty a temple for Libertas?)
Well, at least Annabeth and Grover briefly discussed it the aspect of what it is and the architectural significance vs the historical significance
The poison!
Just uh...casually bath him in the fountain. I don't think the Mist can help much with that
Honestly, if their best plan is to pray to the Gods for help they are kind of fucked and very desperate
Oh wait, they think Athena sent Echidna? Or at least won't help them
Eh, kinda tracks with how horrible the Gods are to Demigods
Ooh, Annabeth vs Chimera? Brave girl but Percy is too loyal for that shit. And Reckless
Go Percy go!
Oh! So the River is just going to grab him. That works. I guess
Honestly if I was the Mississippi River God I would be pretty damn pissed at mortals, that poor river has been through A Lot. I wonder how it worked when the gods came over, was it kinda like when they went to rome and integrated the local gods? Because the Indigenous Tribes already had gods and what not, especially for nature, or is it more like the distinction between Greek/Egyptian/Norse?
Anyways, pretty good episode, the pacing seems a bit weird, but I liked it overall.
