Why should you watch Warrior Nun(shipping edition)?

If you know any gays they have most likely spent the last twenty four hours screaming at you that you just have to watch Warrior Nun because it has the best sapphic couple in recent time. But this post isn't about the show itself(if you are curious about the show read this ) This is about Ava and Beatrice aka Avatrice and the amazing slow burn romance they gave us in Season 2 of Warrior Nun. So if you decide to get into Warrior Nun what can you expect from our girls? :

The first is yearning. A HUGE part of this ship is the yearning and both of our girls are not exactly subtle about it

-Next we have physical contact. They are both so touch starved and so in love with each other they will use any opportunity to get close . So many hugs, so much face touching

-Yes Season 2 literally starts with them being undercover in a small village in the mountain just the two of being roomates and working together in a bar all while secretly training in the beautiful mountain side. The show went for all the fanfic tropes. They spent two months living Raylla's dream

-Yes we have jealousy . Oh such delicious jealousy

-We also have lighthearted goofball moments where she just wants to go sight seeing and be with her girl in a new city or where she is dragging her tranqed gir through the streets away from the bad guys

-We have angst but those can't go more then 30 seconds being in a fight before they immediately apologies and console each other

-And of course we have them fighting back to back against overwhelming numbers

-Flying our girl our of danger? Yup. Took that straight out of supercorp's book

-some angst of course

-and finally after the slow burn and a thousand near kisses we finally have a love confession and a kiss right before the big battle

-And of course of Beatrice turning into a one woman army and slaughtering everyone who stands between her and Ava(but she does give them a chance to save their lives first)

So are you ready for Avatrice you ask yourself? Do you have the time? Will it be worth it? And the answer is yes. It will be worth it. The show is amazing and this one of the best written romances in years

Fucking hell.

First off: I find it interesting the anon doesn't acknowledge that Laena x Daemon is also incest. Sure, she's not his niece, but she is still related to him. They love projecting their insecurities about their ship onto daemyra.

Second: yeah, HoTD choosing to make the Velaryons black then sidelining them massively is shitty and, sure, could be interpreted as racist. However, how is that Rhaenyra's fault? She didn't make Daemon marry Laena when he couldn't have her neither did she kill Laena. Condal and Hess chose to write out Laena's relevance (which already wasn't much outside of being Daemon's wife and Baela and Rhaena's mother) in order to give Alicent more screen time. But again, that's neith Rhaenyra's nor Emma D'Arcy's fault, stop blaming them (also Emma is good at playing Rhaenyra as she is written, the only issues are the writing, which aren't their fault). Op also chose to ignore the fact that Daemon actually is confirmed by GRRM himself to have loved Rhaenyra the most.

Moving on, once again the Rhaenyra antis are bringing up how Rhaenyra isn't "feminist". Literally no one in F&B is feminist by our modern definition. Visenya and Rhaenys are probably the closest, and even then, they aren't writing feminist manifestos (which apparently Rhaenyra is expected to for some reason). Alysanne, the most proactive queen regent, still enforced arranged marriages on her daughters and granddaughters. Rhaenys didn't advocate for Laena's right of succession in the book and in the show refused to support Rhaenyra long before Laenor's "death". Her antis hold Rhaenyra to unfair and unrealistic standards while making excuses for or ignoring other characters who don't meet them.

In that same vein, I still can't get over how Rhaenyra antis will say that TG aren't the conservative group. They say Rhaenyra isn't a feminist and that TG, the ones who are obsessed with male primogeniture and believe being gay, a sexually liberated woman, a child born out of wedlock, or not adhering to the equivalent of the Catholic Church make someone subhuman are the "progressive" group. It's delusion at its finest. Alicent and the greens are misogynistic and, because of them, women's rights in Westeros ended up more repressed than ever.

The fact that the op says that Visenya and Queen Rhaena are acceptable shows they have no understanding for TG or F&B. First off, TG would never support either woman. Visenya was hated by the Faith and most of the Lord's of Westeros, she was a warrior accused of witchcraft and dared to interfere with the misogynistic customs alongside Rhaenys. Rhaena was gay, something she wasn't allowed to live fully because the Targaryens chose to conform to Westerosi ideals. She was also robbed of her inheritance, even Jaehaerys acknowledged that Rhaena was the rightful heir, just as Aegon acknowledged Rhaenyra was.

As for the racist allegations, those come exclusively from Mushroom, someone who is far from a reliable source. Mushroom invented an entire woman to try to add "spice" to Jacaerys' story: Sara Snow. A woman of whom there is no record of, even though she was raised in Winterfell and supposedly married Jace. If Mushroom is willing to make up a whole ass woman to make the story more dramatic, why should we trust anything he says?

Yes, Rhaenyra ordered Nettles' execution, but that was because of her rumored relationship with Daemon and Rhaenyra's paranoia which had grown massively since Hugh Hammer and Ulf White's betrayal. Was it just? No. Was it racially motivated? According to Mushroom, maybe, but looking at Rhaenyra's character, it doesn't make sense.

Moving on, what exactly does op mean by "she's done too many things to claim she's been wrongly framed by the narrative"? By the time Nettles comes along, Rhaenyra hasn't done much that could be considered reprehensible. Op seems to have an issue with Vaemond's death, which Rhaenyra did order in the book. They seem to think that Vaemond "rightfully called her out" and was wrongfully killed.

She ordered Vaemond's execution after he declared her sons bastards in order to challenge Corlys' decision regarding succession. Keep in mind, Vaemond in the book is Corlys' nephew, not his brother, which moves him even farther down the line of succession. Vaemond not only was putting Rhaenyra and her sons in danger but was also trying to usurp all of Corlys' line, including Baela and Rhaena, who op seems to like a lot.

Yeah Rhaenyra is much harsher in F&B, but that hardly makes her evil and irredeemable. Queens Visenya and Rhaena were both harsh and even cruel sometimes, yet op doesn't think they're irredeemable monsters.

I do agree with op's anger over the sidelining of the Velaryons, as I said earlier, but taking it out on Rhaenyra is completely uncalled for. Rhaenyra wasn't a monster, anyone who believes that has frighteningly little reading comprehension. Rhaenyra's reign would have greatly helped women's standings in Westeros and pushed along gender equality. Ignoring that fact and blatantly saying the greens aren't supporting the repressive patriarchy is delusional and idiotic. The greens' actions were damaging in every way. Vaemond was far from an innocent victim, he was power hungry and misogynistic in both the show and the book. Keep your angry focused on the right people, don't take it out on a woman who had her whole life destroyed by the patriarchy.

Can't believe this still needs to be said in TYOOL 2023 but:

Like, it's wild to me that some folks in this fandom are still trying to do discourse eight years later, when for the life of me I cannot be bothered about who enjoys x character from y media during a time of unprecedented actual real world problems for everyone, especially the LGBTQIA+ community. Yes, Victoria Chase from Life is Strange is a bitch and not very nice and a bully and she does some very bad things. You don't need to breathlessly remind me of this because chances are I've spent way more time obsessing over every line, action, and facial tic for this girl than any of her haters ever would, and because it's those very traits that make her fascinating to me and a character worthy of deeper exploration. Just like Azula, or Ianthe, or Catra, or Villainelle, or Regina, or any number of Very Bad Women doing Very Bad Things that have captured the hearts and imaginations of sapphics who just want to simp for iconic (and again, entirely fictional) mean girls as a way to pass the time in a world much crueler to us than a character in a video game or tv show or book or [insert media of your choice] could ever be. What I'm asking anyone for whom this may concern is to: A.) Evolve past the notion that what characters or ships people enjoy says fuck all about their morality or real-world relationship preferences, or B.) *get off the blog dedicated to the pRoBlEmAtIc fictional woman in her most pRoBlEmAtIc ship.* It's really that simple.

What are your thoughts about my predix?

Oooh, y’all know I love giving my opinions on things. Before I dive into your predictions individually, I just want to say that I’m looking at Part 1 and Part 2 as two halves of a whole. There were 14 projects announced in Part 1, so I would assume there would be just as many announced in Part 2. And if not, then I am once again asking why we split this into two parts???

Anyway, on to your predictions!

MarkOhm series: Mark confirmed that he has finished filming a pilot trailer and will play the lead in that series. The rumor for a long time has been that this is going to be a MarkOhm BL, but I just personally don’t understand why GMMTV would suddenly pair Mark with Ohm when they could pair him with Neo instead. GMMTV brands even their side pairs now (WinnySatang, AouBoom), so NeoMark makes more sense to me. Plus, Ohm’s acting is still very green. I would much prefer to watch Mark and Neo lead their first BL together because I think we’d get a stronger final product that way, but I’m ready to be surprised. I also don’t think a MarkNamtan series is off the table yet either, so I will go against popular opinion here and say no to the MarkOhm BL. A Mark series? Definitely. But with Ohm? The jury is still out.

PerthChimon series: Oh, 100%. Neither of them got anything in Part 1 (although I think Perth was cast in Peaceful Property after the fact), so they’re definitely getting a BL. My dream plot for them: Perth dating Chimon’s sister, but the two of them fall in love instead. It’s the DomeVee plot from You’re My Sky and I think they would pull off pining well.

GL with new pairing: I am hesitant to say yes to this simply because we got Pluto in Part 1 and it hasn’t even started filming yet, but I certainly hope so. I would love a large ensemble GL—either something messy like Only Friends or something fun like My School President. Maybe with Sizzy because all of those girls would be more than willing and GMMTV ignores them. (I do wonder if the limiting factor with GLs at GMMTV is directors because Pluto still doesn’t have a director listed on MDL and I get the feeling P’Aof is trying to give these projects to sapphic creators. Does P’Fon have to direct all of them? That poor woman. She doesn’t even like romcoms.)

Nanon het series: Nanon has confirmed that he has something in Part 2 and I imagine it’s probably het. I’m not really expecting him to lead anything this year because he seems to want to focus on his music, but I can definitely see him being part of an ensemble show.

Gemini het series: GemPrim! I’ve seen rumors about this, but I kinda doubt it’s going to happen considering Gemini is still a full-time student and I imagine GMMTV wants to keep his schedule open for GeminiFourth things.

Only Friends 2 (with new cast): Not this year. Maybe next. And hopefully with lesbians.

Or another ensemble BL series (maybe FB with JS, EM, or JD): I do wonder if We Are took the “ensemble BL” slot for this year, but it’s almost guaranteed that ForceBook will get a BL. Out of the ships you listed, I think it would be most likely for them to be paired with JoongDunk. EarthMix already have a BL on the books for this year—which they haven’t even started filming—and Last Twilight didn’t end until January, so I think JimmySea are probably done with BLs for the year as well. Plus, both Jimmy and Sea were given significant roles in other dramas.

Should You Watch Undead Murder Farce?

(Japanese title: Undead Girl Murder Farce)

A Brief Summary

In an alternate universe where demons and monsters still exist, one half-oni is living out his days in a fight club, just waiting to die.  That is, until a genius detective manages to catch his eye.  With promises of extending his life in an exchange to end her immortal one, the two pair up - along with the detective’s maid who happens to be handy with a rifle.  The trio solves some mysteries in Japan before going global, searching for the man who wronged them both and meeting some familiar literary figures along the way.

With so many scheming people together - friend and foe - it’s a battle of who can out-think and out-detective each other in order to win the day.

So, should you watch the anime?

Yes!

To be fair, I have a predilection for media (shows, books, whatever) where geniuses keep trying to out-do each other.  I love a person with a plan that’s thinking 30 steps ahead in 5D chess.  And this show is abundant with that character type.  I also like it when a show can keep me on my toes.  Undead Murder Farce kept up a lot of mystery throughout, which also makes it kind of hard to talk about in fear of spoiling things.

The season is made up of several arcs, each 2-3 episode arc involving a specific mystery to be solved.  There is also a general mystery tying things together and giving reasons for our characters to come together.  Our detective trio often clashes with an organization made up of supernatural beings, sometime works alongside vigilantes, and tend to end up meeting a whole lot of interesting folk.

I was a bit skeptical when the show made a change from the Japanese setting to Merry Olde England, and also wary for our detective hero party to suddenly be in the realm of probably the most well known detective in all fiction, but this show managed to pull it off.  Sherlock didn’t steal the show.  Lupin may have. ;)

One of my least favorite characters in Undead Murder Farce is the maid body-guard.  She didn’t seem to have much point in the plot-line besides being sullen and getting into certain… situations… but you know what, I bet there are people who really like her and those situations, so I’m not upset, lol.

The animation is really nice and action sequences flow well.  I am a fan of the character design so that gets a win from me, but I know that’s always a subjective thing.  But if you like any of the faces you see in the image for this article, then you’ll be good to go.

I have to mention the absolute banger of an OP this anime has as well.  It gave me big K-Pop vibes (in a good way).  I did a little digging and the group that performs the OP is part of the K-Pop world, so I guess that vibe makes sense.  It’s a song I can easily recall even half a year later (which is kind of a rarity with the amount of anime I watch), and it sparked joy every week.

For me, characters are a big part of what makes me enjoy a story, so what kind of characters does Undead Murder Farce have jam-packed within each mystery-solving episode?

A slightly perverted and laid-back Rakugo-styled half-oni experiment that can put up a mean fight with a smile always on his face (Tsugaru).

An immortal genius looking for someone to end said immortality - oh and also looking for her body as she’s currently just a very intelligent head in a cage (Aya Rindou).

A military-esque maid who can keep up with the monsters around her, though she also somehow ends up in rather sapphic situations (Shizuku).

A gentleman thief that’s always a few steps ahead of his detective opponents and tends to add a dramatic flourish to all he does (Arsene Lupin).

The big detective himself, full of snark and confident that he is the alpha detective in Europe, despite the supernatural competition (Sherlock Holmes).

The epitome of a polished lady who isn’t afraid to show off her assets and also sink her teeth - quite literally - into anyone who gets in her way (Carmilla).

Plus a whole heaping of other figures from literature and supernatural origins, including the mother-fucking Phantom of the Opera.  Just because.  

I skipped on a few key spoiler characters as this anime is all about mystery, and who am I to give it away?

Where does it rate on my personal scale?

S: I will buy it at full price (unless it’s released by Aniplex USA, because fuck their pricing).

->A: I will buy it on sale sometime down the line.

B: I had fun watching it, but don’t need to own it.

C: It’s not my cup of tea, but wasn’t awful.

D: Dropped it.

X: Finished it out of spite, but did not enjoy it.

Undead Murder Farce was a lot of fun to watch, so it gets an A ranking from me.  It was probably my favorite anime of the summer 2023 season, and the show I most looked forward to watching every week.  While some mysteries were solved in the 12 episodes that aired, we’re still missing a resolution for the over-arching plot lines.  I very much hope we get a season 2!

Some Thoughts I Have on Queer Stories (Currently)

Okay so with heartstopper and red white and royal blue and good omens we’ve got a lot of gay content right now. And that’s good! That’s lovely! However… (also note that I love and cherish the many aspects of good omens that explore identity and the idea of angels/demons/god and their relationships with gender/concept of it and the many queer characters- and i love that very much and feel very seen in a way that I don’t know if I’ve been able to have in a piece of media before- but my point in this post is going to hinge on aziraphale and Crowley within the story being for the most part what we consider male presenting and perceived for the most part as male presenting. Just to make this clear now. This is not a criticism of any of these media, I’m just pointing something out that I’ve noticed. Now that that’s out of the way- back to the post!)

… the main queer aspects of these media are about queer men (you see why I had to write the good omens disclaimer paragraph). Don’t get me wrong! I love stories about all queer identities and I certainly don’t want less of one story and more of another. I just want to talk about how the current popularity and visible amount of stories about queer men contrasts pretty much every story not about queer men. It’s great that there are so many stories now and especially that these stories (especially good omens and heartstopper- in different ways but no less meaningful) have other queer characters in them and are telling smaller stories about other queer identities within them, but the fact of the matter is that a lot of popular queer stories centre around queer men. That might just be where we are right now but I think that’s all the more reason to think about it.

Media that is about queer men seems to have the ability to build large fandoms and get very popular. It’s not overly hard to find stories about queer men if you check the tumblr trending tab every couple of weeks (or days if we’re thinking about the past few weeks). I heard about Red White and Royal Blue when it was a novel, from a couple different tumblr posts. Even books can get really popular. I also remember going into bookstores and when I was looking for queer stories most of them were about queer men. It was rare to find books about queer women and nearly impossible to find a book that had anything to do with gender in it, and while I haven’t been in a bookstore and sifted through as many books as possible in a while I believe it’s become slightly easier to find stories about queer women and… honestly I have zero hope for any other queer identity when I walk into a bookstore. That’s of course based off of where I live and my own personal bookstore experiences but I honestly don’t have much else to base it on. I honestly think I’ve only read one book that was explicitly about a non-binary character in my life. Are there more books about non-binary people? Yes of course there are but I have not been able to find them easily nor have they been uplifted to the same heights as the stories of queer men have been.

Books I’ve found are far better than film and tv for queer stories. Things like The Locked Tomb series and other stories with sapphic protagonists have come up on my radar but still less than stories about queer men. This is a pattern I’ve been noticing for a while now and it’s a pattern that’s been going on for a while now. At least in my lifetime (which really hasn’t been that long but again, I don’t have anything else to base this off but myself and my measly nineteen years of being alive and about eight years of actively looking for queer stories) this has been the pattern. I’ve read a lot of stories about queer men. They were very important to me. A lot of them were the first place I was able to see queer people and I’ll always love them for giving me a chance to see people like me in them, even if they didn’t have me specifically, those stories were and are endlessly meaningful. Most of the stories I’ve read and shows I’ve watched that are about queer people are about queer men. Those are the stories that people talk about and those are the stories that are popular and loved and respected enough to have more than one season. I don’t know if we’re there yet (or it it matters that we aren’t) but I know that I want more than that. And I think that’s enough for me to think that we should have more than that.

There are a lot of different queer people. There are more stories that can be told than can probably be read in a single lifetime. There’s queer history and there’s also the history of the entire world and the cultural importance of differences in gender and sexuality. A lot of that has been lost and buried and hidden away and destroyed. Everything is very large and very old. What we consider queer has always existed in some form and the current state of the world and different places is only a single point in time. But… we don’t live for thousands of years and we only exist in this point in time. At this point in time media about queer men is held just a bit higher than other media about other queer people. It’s far more complicated than that but that’s what I’ve seen in the simplest way I can explain. It’s not a bad thing that these stories are being written and seen, of course it’s not a bad thing, but it’s the difference between media about queer men and everyone else that seems worth contemplating.

my very long and devastated thoughts on The Traitor Baru Cormorant:

- Baru and Tain Hu became one of my favorite relationships out of nowhere and I was a fool for thinking it could have an even remotely happy ending.  I was hoping against hope that the author was going to throw us a bone and go out of their way to avoid the bury your gays trope at the last second, but no such luck.  My heart is broken.  I would have been upset but able to accept it if Tain Hu escaped and we never heard from her again, but instead the absolute cruelest possible option was taken instead.  I will never forgive them for what they have put me through... what they have put THEM through... but I understand.  Tain Hu herself is one of the most characters ever and I don’t think I’m prepared to handle 2 books of her haunting the pages.  I’m being very brave though. 

- Baru’s self-hatred and misery is so profound, especially over those last couple of chapters, that I felt like I was being sucked into a black hole.  I knew this would end poorly from the beginning because there is no way to cause change from the inside of something so vast and evil without becoming a monster yourself, but to think that it had come to this...  I hate that I can relate to what she’s feeling, it honestly dredges up memories I’ve tried very hard to forget, and it’s astounding this book is able to do that to me. 

- Tain Hu was the only person who didn’t try to use Baru as a pawn or a way to get power or heirs.  Fuck.

- I did not expect this much political theory and conspiracies but I was extremely surprised and impressed, I feel a lot of things were put into words that I wasn’t sure how to express.  I feel smarter somehow, but also a lot sadder.  Honestly, I think there’s stuff in here put in simple enough terms it’s going to help inform my viewpoints in real life.  That’s a lot.

- “I want to fuck women” was such a powerful and cathartic moment because I’m so used to seeing sapphic sexuality as being sanitized or purified, this innocent “omg i wanna hold a girl’s hand uwu” shit, and it drives me insane.  Like I’m sorry society, but I don’t want to be desexualized into something you’re comfortable with.  I want to fuck women and love with no limits and so that’s why this line was amazing because they could have very easily have said “i like women” or “I want to kiss women” or even “I don’t like men.”  But we got this banger of a confession.  Hell fucking yes, Baru.

- I love that even though most of the characters are pretty big assholes, they each have moments that make them likable, or even sympathetic, if only briefly. 

- I don’t know how to tell Baru this, but I don’t think Mother Pinion or Father Solit are going to forgive her and be like “yeah this was okay.  this was justified.”

-  gonna call it right now, Baru is not going to survive this.  There is no way she’s going to survive this whole thing, get her revenge (or not) and not end up killed, or committing suicide.  Like, there’s just no way.  She’s going to fucking die and I won’t even be mad or even sad in a way just distantly removed like “yep I knew it and it’s the way it had to happen.  Sorry.”

- What I want most from this next book, the Monster Baru Cormorant, is to show more of how beyond fucked up Falcrest is.  I want to see everyone in power, the absolute depravity behind the creation of the Clarified... I want to see all of it fucking burned down. 

- I have the next 2 books on hold at the library and it may take me a while to get through them because holy fuck are they depressing and hard but I need to know how this ends goddammit.  Was Tain Hu’s sacrifice WORTH it?

The US. I don't really like anything about it. I dislike everything, especially politically, and I think the past 10 years have set our human rights back literal centuries. I also dislike the late-stage capitalism. On a smaller note, I think we have absolutely no character. Every other country I've visited has this rich history that goes back millennia. The US is so... new. Colonialism amirite

Yes, I write novels and my main story is a sapphic time-travel fantasy that deals with cult trauma.

I'm a sucker for romance and historical fiction. I also find myself reading more LGBT stories than cishet ones. I always recommend TID and TLH. I'll also always recommend Jane Austen books to those who haven't read them yet!

Finally got a chance this week to sit down and read Second Self , the most recent Picard novel. I pretty much assumed I would enjoy this one because it's Una McCormack (which is like slapping a guarantee on the package for me) and because her first Picard novel was a banger, despite my having more tepid feelings about the series itself.

If you’re in my Trek circle of tumblr, you should give this one a try, guys. It's good.

Random thoughts (here be spoilers):

The moment I saw the words "a Cardassian," I knew I was going to see Garak. I knew because #1: are there other Cardassians? Really? and #2: Dr. Una wouldn't play with my heart like that. (Also my spouse, who had already read the book, kept staring at me while I was reading, judging my reaction. Bit of a tip off as well.)

I fucking love Raffi. Specifically, I love this novelverse version of the character who has depth and is so relatable. She was the best part of Last Best Hope, and having her take center stage was a treat. I would like to kindly request of the Star Trek gods to please give us a smidge more Seven/Raffi in the novelverse. The radioplay was lovely, and Beyer fed us well there. But I want more, and I'm especially curious to see what Dr. McCormack's would do with it. I have waited a lifetime to see an explicitly canon sapphic ship* in Trek: I am hungry. (*other than Dax/Kahn)

Juxtaposing Elnor and his absolute candor with Garak is just *chef's kiss fireworks yes* BRILLIANT

As with most of Dr. Una's work, not only was this an engaging read, but it was thematically rich, too. The meditation on justice vs. retribution vs. restitution is so immediately relevant and so well done that I know I’ll be thinking about it many times outside its trek context. And I was so grateful for the recognition that choosing restitution is an heroic act on the part of those who truly deserve retribution/justice. Effing lovely.

I always wondered how one could satisfactorily end Garak's story. I mean in my heart I knew it couldn't be purely happily ever after. There were war crimes, buddy: probably need just a smidge of comeuppance there. But also, the other part of my heart didn't want to see him suffer more because...because it's Garak. This ending managed to please both halves of my heart, which I didn't think possible. (When I say end, it is by default in quotation marks because that story will never be over, I refuse)

I will forever and always wonder how different this arc is than the one that might have been in the prior DS9 litverse.

Okay, @unamccormack, be honest: how much of that letter Garak left for Bashir have you mentally written? Actually written? I have to know what it says. I need it like air. I just know it would be full of references to The Tempest and musings on missed opportunities and past mistakes. Please, I'm begging: release the extended cut!

Since I discovered your ao3 profile many, many years ago, you've been one of those auto-read authors for me, the kind you follow blindly and faithfully into fandoms you've never heard of, and crucially, the kind who always, always deliver. I must have read your capri ficS fifty times EACH, i revisit them like every six months, they're so good (ALSO!! Those fic are the reason I discovered the capri trilogy, SO THANK YOU FOR THAT!!!) ANYWAY!! That is to say, when you announced that you were publishing your first original novel, I was SO excited. And AML did not disappoint, it had everything that made me fall in love with your writing in the first place, fascinating world building, and characters i want to kiss on the forehead and tuck into my pockets (AND MAGICAL HOUSES!!!! Bestest of tropes). I read it around the time it came out and I couldn't wait for the sequel. And then I learned what the sequel was actually going to be about and ART immediately became my most anticipated book of the year. Every tidbit you divulged made me go to goodreads and stare at the publication date for full minutes like sheer longing was going to magically make it sooner.

(2/3 now I think) Magical murder mystery! Sapphics!!! ON BOATS!!! It sounded like it was going to be the book of dreams. AND IT WAS!!!!!! It was sooooo gooood. I loved everything about it: the plot (delightful, delightful, and delightful. A VALISE FULL OF PORNOGRAPHY!!! WILD ANIMALS RUNNING AMOK!! A FAKE REAL SEANCE!!! God, just thinking about it makes me so happy), the characters (i loved everyone so dearly!!! Even the background characters were painted so vividly and charmingly, and of course the orgy quartet HAS MY WHOLE HEART!!! Both individually and together. Special mentions go to Lord Hawthorn, the aristocratic asshole of my heart, AND MAUDIE!!!! She was so complex and wonderul, and I just saw you one post where you described her as a lesbian miles vorkosigan, which????!?!?!?! I'D NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT IT LIKE THAT BUT YES ABSOLUTELY, my most beloved brilliant disaster generals… AND OH, SHE'S EVEN ON A BOAT, SO "ADMIRAL" IS FITTING), and of course the prose… genuinely so astonishingly, consistently beautiful. I can't think of any other books where sentences regularly make me stop to marvel at how gorgeously crafted and evocative they are, at the cleverness of the pictures they paint, without taking me out of the story. And the consistent music imagery throughout the book, a connecting thread in both povs!!! I hope we get to see the girls at Spinet House in book three. And the sex scenes of course… you are a master!!!! So sexy and lush, and such excellent character studies at the same time, I am in awe. Also, so happy to see excellent, explicit wlw smut!!!! Not enough of it out there!!! Which of course brings me to the relationships…. AHHHHH SO GOOD. SO GOOD!! The joy and discovery and tension and building trust of Maud and Violet, the excellent dynamics of the quartet, but also Maud and Hawthorn, UNEXPECTEDLY MAYBE MY FAVORITE DUO, and omg, the way you depict even "off page" relationships, ie maud and edwin, maud and robin, robin and edwin… so much feeling and tenderness and care!!!! You don't need to be told that they love each other, it comes across so, so clearly. ALSO (last one I promise) FORSYTHIA CLUB BACKSTORY!!! Flora and Beth crushed my heart underfoot) 

(3/3) ANYWAY ALL OF THIS TO SAY…. ART was so much FUN!!!!! A treat from beginning to end, one of my fave reads this year. AND A POWER UNBOUND IS ALREADY MY MOST ANTICIPATED BOOK OF NEXT YEAR, which… is going to be thought, given that it's a whole 12 months away, womp womp. I can't wait to get more of lord hawthorn (who i hoped would be a future book protag on very first appearance in aml!!!), i want to pry him open like a clam and peer into his brain, and of alan ross, and of their DELICIOUS dynamic… also looking forward to learning more about elsie alston and to see the whole gang interact, magical houses included!!! Just read your welcome back post about mental health. Fellow BPD-er here with OCD and C-PTSD and PCOS. If you wanna ask me about anything or share your day feel free too. I've struggled with finding medicine and therapists that work, and having to rewire my whole brain into thinking somewhat normally. I'm still attempting to do it, and I catch myself slipping up sometimes. I've been off meds for like, 6 weeks because of finance issues, but I'm working on getting back onto them to help my depression/motivation. I entirely know way too well what you described as psychosis, and it sucks. Delusions and hallucinations are not fun by any means, I'm sorry you've been going through that for the past year. Yeah, I'm really treatment-resistant as autism makes talk therapy hard because I find myself masking the entire time and telling my therapist what they want to hear. There's also the risk of becoming emotionally attached to my therapist (as I had become to my last) which is just not a good situation to set up, ever.

I can't afford to get medicated, as much as I would love to become medicated, but I already know that finding the right cocktail for me is going to be fairly difficult since I am, again, treatment resistant.

I do have CPTSD (though who fucking doesn't in this economy) but I also have regular PTSD so it sort of gets drowned out in most cases and is never the most important thing in my mind.

Most of my recovery has had to be entirely on my own, by taking therapy notes from my friends with similar issues who have gone, or by just researching it

I think one of the reasons my issues have caused me to deteriorate so rapidly these last two years is some kind of neurological issue (I am being actively begged to go to a neurologist) and god, having mental health issues and then physical issues that worsen them makes being ill into one of those rope puzzles where you have to carefully untangle them to solve it.

No, delusions are not fun. I've never had too many visual hallucinations but mine are usually auditory or ghost sensations, and they very much do suck. I do NOT enjoy having to constantly question if someone is actually flirting with me or I'm being delusional, again. (Asking for clarification is NEVER A GOOD IDEA)

As for my books, I'm not usually willing to talk about them publically (OCD means paranoid that they're going to be stolen. Yes I am aware this is irrational.) but I'll gladly talk about them in DMs all day.

However, the main ones I'm working on this year is a fantasy series I've been working on for a while which is inspired by the Witcher while also being Queer Epic Fantasy. I'm also working on two thrillers, one following the plot of one of the fics I've written (the fic was ABO, obviously the book will not be) and the other is an entirely new plot. Both are sapphic, as I am sapphic (obvis lol) and all of these have been quite the labor of passion and love already, though I'm restarting writing

sapphic demigirl. a lot of tpb queens give demigirl vibes, but Goldenflower especially.

she and Lionheart are basically twinsies. her fluff is just a bit less prominent, but don't let that statement fool you, a kit can definitely hide in her fur to win a game of hide-and-seek.

she might be sapphic (and definitely had a huuuuuuge crush on Bluefur/star), but she also really loved Tigerclaw.

he was the one that confessed to her and asked to become mates. Tiger admired her strenght and courage, two things most cats in ThunderClan think of when they think about her.

she has beaten up many cats in fights, she's actually a scarier battler than Lionheart

she's fucking proud of the little nick Blue gave her when she was an apprentice. she actually has multiple extra scars that are hidden beneath all her fur.

she would not be a good deputy or leader though. she's a bit too impulsive and stubborn for the job; this makes her a great warrior, but she'd be a bit too much of a threat to deal with annoying leaders of other clans. (if the tigerheartstar conquering riverclan thing happened while she (for some unholy reason) was still leader she would've sent her grandchild packing out of riverclan with the longest lecture in history.)

she LOVES her kits and would've killed for them. she was already a good mom, but the reacions of the clan made her spitefully be an even better mom for her two kits. Giving them all the love they should've gotten from the clan.

Smallear is still her father, yes Smallear, the same guy that bullied Tawnypaw out of ThunderClan. Smallear and Goldenflower never had the closest of relations before that (Small wasn't really invested in his kits' life, and he really dissaproved of Tigerclaw as a mate), but after that Golden and Small just couldn't even talk to each other without a monstrous fight breaking out.

Smallear actually died because of a heart attack after a pretty gruesome fight with Goldenflower. She never apologized to Smallear in StarClan, they simply don't talk ever again.

anyways, back to nice stuff.

Goldenflower often had some yellow or light blue flowers in her fur. it mostly depended on her mood and whatever she could find.

she's a fun cat with apprentices. she never mentored one, but sometimes she grabbed one of them to go out and train a bit. they always loved those days.

lynx and swift are also goldentiger kits. lynxkit is a tortie that looks a lot like tiger too (have I ever posted my lynx design?). anyways yeah she was also mondo pissed when Swift died because of tiger's shenanigans.

she was even angry at tiger when he was outed as a traitor obviously. the thing is that she knew of his ambitions. she knew he wanted to become leader and while she didn't know he had killed redtail (one of her friends might I add), she knew he was angry and impatient. they had spent a few nights together to talk about how life in ThunderClan would be if he became leader. she was silently a bit worried that their little moments together made him desiring of speeding up the process of Bluestar dying so that he could become leader. That isn't true

Micah, Cow and Mouse found family. They just vibed together in the barn before Moth Flight showed up. Micah was always up to no good in that damned barn according to Mouse.

Micah was always interested in herbs and discovered a few ones that are still used by the modern clans now.

They never thought about getting a mate or a family until Moth Flight showed up, even then they didn't really think about Moth romantically up until they nearly died.

I know moth is the one that takes care of a litter that happens to spawn with some issues, but Micah actually did more of those things. some NPC litters happened while Micah was still alive and they helped everyone learn some neat tricks to let it happen flawlessly.

This is a thing because they become the soft of god of birth in StarClan and often (invisibly) materialise to assist any queen in need. (Silverstream wasn't saved because Micah can't do everything and this time they couldn't even be there because Mapleshade bodyslammed them out of SIlver's reach.).

They often visited Moth Flight in her dreams after their death. they spent quite a lot of time tooling around in her dreams

they were so against the rule of healers not being allowed mates and so against their kits being split. Moth and Micah had a few arguments over these things, but they eventually resolved them.

they saw Acorn Fur as a new little sister. Fellow autistic little gal. they simply connected very well. This made Mith jealous, but we are Not talking about the mess that is Moth Flight here.

somehow somehow related to root and thus tree and thus needle and rootspring. the vibe I get from Micah (fuzzy, yellow, funky stripes and a sprout in their hair) just matches too well with Tree for it to be a coincidence.

the autism also passed down on the line. look at Tree and his kits and tell me autism isn't oozing from them.

Summary: Sapphic!Reader has a secret crush on Natasha and doesn’t know how to deal with it.

(The reader uses she/her pronouns and is 18+. The ethnicity is any.)

Oh shit! She sees me! I look back down at my book and pretend that I wasn’t just looking directly at the back of Natasha’s red head. I try to spare a glance back up at her to see her eyes slowly move away from my form and onto Bruce passing by, and I sigh in relief. 

I’ve only been in the Avengers for a couple months, but my crush on the Black Widow had been around way before that. It started a little while after the attack on New York, when people were still processing the existence of aliens and the existence of superheroes at the same time. I was a senior in high school at the time and everyone was talking about the Avengers, specifically who they like the most from the team. I kept it a secret that the Black Widow was the one who made my heart race and my palms sweat and told them that it was Captain America. Who knew that I would end up having powers as well?! Apparently some time after graduating, my powers began showing up and as much as I tried to control them, they ended up becoming a big problem that I couldn’t ignore and soon my family got a call from an agent at SHIELD who said that Nick Fury was interested in me joining the Avengers I obviously said yes, because who wouldn’t want to live with a bunch of superheroes. 

“(Y/N),” Natasha’s smooth voice brought me out of my thoughts and I looked up from my book to see her standing across from me with raised eyebrows. 

We were standing in the kitchen with the counter between us and I was bent over my side of the counter holding my book in front of my face like an idiot.

“Yeah?”

“What are you doing?”

“What do you mean what am I doing?” I tried to keep my voice calm and not show any nervousness, but failed. “I’m reading, clearly. Why do you ask?”

“Clearly,” she began, her voice showing her skepticism, “You have been standing there with a book in front of your face for the past 20 minutes, pretending that you’re reading, but I can clearly see your eyes looking at me.”

I opened my mouth to give a comeback, but I honestly didn’t know what explanation to come up with so I just sat my book down and closed my mouth.

“Why are you pretending to read in the kitchen and why are you staring at me?”

I didn’t know what to say. Well, technically I did know what to say, I just don’t know how to say it or if I should say it. I don’t know how old Natasha is, but I do know that she’s definitely older than me, so my crush on her would definitely make things awkward not just for me and her, but probably for the rest of the team. And would she like me back? I don’t really know if Natasha likes women or not. Maybe it’s because of her being an assassin, but I can’t really get a feel of what her preference is.

“(Y/N),” Natasha said, annoyance becoming clear in her tone.

“Yeah, yeah, um...” I looked around the kitchen, stupidly trying to find some courage somewhere in here. “I was curious about...”

“About?”

“About whether you, um...”

“Whether I like you or not?” Natasha finished for me.

I stared in disbelief at her, not sure again what I should say.

Seeing my face, she let out a low chuckle that seemed to create a strange yet warm feeling in my stomach. “Ever since you got here, you’ve been literally acting like a little puppy, following and staring at me with those little lovesick eyes. It wasn’t that hard and it did not take that long to figure out.”

“Oh,” was all that could come out of my mouth.

She began to slowly make her way around the counter, her green eyes watching me and staring at my body. Is she trying to intimidate me? See if I’ll just start swooning for her? I wasn’t going to let her know that just her talking to me made me nervous so I kept my eyes completely on hers as she made her way to me. There was a smug smile on her face, as if she already knew the affect she had on me. But I kept my cool and tried to look as confident and unbothered as I could.

She finally stopped in front of me and leaned in so her face was closer to mine, and suddenly I could my feel face heating up with how close her lips were to mine as well.

“Do you think I like you?” 

It was a weird question to me and I didn’t really have an answer to it.

“I don’t know. Do you?”

I tried to take the lead and leaned in to kiss her, but it seemed she already knew my intentions and she wrapped an arm around my head and pulled me to her to have one of the best kisses I’ve ever had. Her lips were soft and tasted like fruit and despite her harsh and intimidating exterior, she was surprisingly gentle. 

When we finally pulled away to get some air, I instantly felt my cheeks get warmer, and I instantly thanked whatever deity out there that could hear me for having darker skin, so she wouldn’t be able to tell. 

“Do you want to be with me?”

The question took me off guard. Didn’t we just kiss each other?

“Like dating? Me and you? Yeah, of course!”

“I’m...a person that has a hard time opening up to people. I just wanna warn you.”

“I don’t care. I like you. We’ll figure it out.” I told her and meant it. I didn’t really care that she might have a hard exterior to get through. I was kind of expecting it, considering she’s a former assassin and superhero. I was just glad that my secret girlcrush was now my official girlfriend.
