#as another small note: love when the type of pokéball they have their team in matters

i looooove pokémon npcs whose team members subtly imply something about them that's never touched upon in the story or at least never outright said. i love villains having friendship evos. i love trainers who commit hard to one aesthetic or vibe with their team (beyond simply sharing a type) and i love it even better when there's one random exception especially if that's their ace. i love when later down the line someone boxes the cute fun soft baby pokémon they used to have in favor of a seemingly stronger or scarier one to show that they're getting serious. i love when they have a pokémon that's difficult to get and raises lots of questions about them. i love it when the lore behind a pokémon fits the character to a T and i love it even better when it appears to contradict them. give me the story-gameplay harmony but better yet give me what appears to be story-gameplay dissonance but might actually have implications if we're willing to dive deep into it

Hello! I know that it is not actually a pokemon type so to speak but I'm staring down an essay deadline with less than half the word count. Would you mind talking about your favourite pokemon that is a dog or canine? Like the pokemons that are also dogs? Does that make sense? Sorry I'm very sleep deprived right now. Thank you so much for always being such a lovely presence on my dash and I hope you have a brilliant day!
Thank you for the compliments, and I would be glad to talk about some of my favorite PokéCanines! I’ll talk about all of my favorite canine pokémon, though please do note that I am leaving out the Ecruteak Trio because it is hotly debated whether they are canines or not and I do not feel like getting into that tonight. (For the record, I feel that Entei is definitely canine, Raikou is feline, and Suicune is too hard to tell, but still, I don’t want to get into it, so I will leave it at that.)
Growlithe / Arcanine — Probably my favorite of the canines for personal, sentimental reasons. When I imagined my previous dog in the Pokémon world, I imagined her as a Growlithe who would evolve into an Arcanine, because the PokéWorld doesn’t have a sheltie pokémon and I felt that the fluff and warmth of Growlithe fit her best, along with the ‘Dex descriptions of them being very loyal and willing to do anything to protect their trainer. My previous dog was exactly like that. But I also feel that Arcanine would be just such a wonderful pokémon to be companions with because they are gigantic, fire-breathing fluffy puppies, and riding them across the countryside would be AMAZING. (Not that I live in the countryside, but I do live in the midwest, so the plains are everywhere and not hard to find.) They’re just so good.
Smeargle — Okay, I will admit, Smeargle loses some points for being bipedal. HOWEVER. They gain those points back by virtue of how cool they are! While they’re not very useful in battle, sadly, due to low stats and the like, Smeargle are cool because each Smeargle has a different color paint (it’s not really paint, more a bodily fluid they use like paint, but close enough), and that as they grow up they let other Smeargle that they are close put their pawprints on their back. (So in other words, Smeargle A let’s Smeargle B use Smeargle B’s ink to put Smeargle B’s pawprints on Smeargle A’s back.) The ‘Dex always says “comrades,” but listen . . . we know what it means when two Smeargle have each other’s pawprints on their back. They are in love.
Houndour / Houndoom — ACTUAL HELLHOUNDS, THEY ARE GREAT. True, the fact that their breath smells like sulfur is kind of gross, but their design and concept are so incredibly cool, and I also just absolutely love the mental image of a Houndour puppy having gigantic paws they have yet to grow into. It’s just the absolute cutest. I also like to imagine that my current dog would be a mixed-breed Houndour and Poochyena in the PokéWorld, so there’s that, too.
Flareon & Umbreon — Listen, some of the Eeveelutions look like felines, some of them look like canines, and others (such as Jolteon) make it really hard to tell. But I’m convinced that Flareon and Umbreon are both canines, and I love them both. FIRST of all, Flareon DOES NOT deserve the hate it gets. It is small and soft and so incredibly warm, it CAN be useful in battle, and most importantly, FLAREON WAS NOT THE FALSE PROPHET AND DID NOTHING WRONG, EVERYONE WHO HATED FLAREON DURING TPP SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES. If you don’t know what I’m talking about there, you don’t need to know about it, but just know that Flareon had a lot of libel posted about it and it was completely unacceptable. As for Umbreon, Umbreon is the Eeveelution I connect with the most given that I am naturally nocturnal, and I love how its rings grow stronger depending on what phase the moon is in. Shiny Umbreon is also choice. They’re definitely the best two Eeveelutions (though Espeon is also up there, sorry Espeon, although Espeon is also one of the feline ones and so shouldn’t be discussed here anyway).
Poochyena / Mightyena — As discussed in another ask, technically hyenas are not canines (or felines), but I’m still going to include them here because the localization team at the very least thought that Poochyena looked like a puppy (“pooch”), hence its name. I LOVE these two. Although my Mightyena ended up underperforming in AlphaSapphire, I’ve always loved the scruffy look contrasted with how loving and puppylike they can be. Also, again, I like to think of my current dog as a mixed breed Houndour/Poochyena, so there’s that, too.
Absol — Absol is another contested one, but I always thought Absol looked canine to me, so I’m going to count it. Absol is wonderful because it not only has a super cool design (though could also benefit from a dual typing, I feel), but also because this is another poor baby who has had so much unfortunate slander spread about it. Absol just wants to help! Absol wants to warn people! And people decide that instead of being grateful, they want to blame the messenger!! Absol does not deserve this at all, and the world likewise does not deserve Absol. That is a fact.
Lillipup / Herdier / Stoutland — Before anyone says anything, NO, these are not shelties. Lillipup is more like a yorkshire terrier, and while Herdier and Stoutland seem like they could be herding dogs of some kind (it’s even in Herdier’s name), I can assure you they do not resemble shelties. More like they resemble oversized yorkies. REGARDLESS, I loved them. Lillipup is adorable, so is Herdier, and while Stoutland is less cute and more gruff, it is also an absolute BEAST. BW confused me because I always took Cheren down easily, but Bianca regularly fucked up my shit with her Stoutland. (And yet they tried to make Stoutland Cheren’s ace in the sequels, smh . . .) My Stoutland was also very reliable. Very good doggos, 10/10
Rockruff / Lycanroc — WOLVES!!! FINALLY WOLVES!!! oh my GOD I waited SEVEN GENERATIONS for this!! To be fair, when I was a child I mistook MIghtyena for a wolf because of the coloring and the fact that it looked like a canine, but as I got older I learned the truth and was back to being disappointed. And while the fact that this line is pure rock (which has a million weaknesses) is disappointing, and while I’m also not fond of Midnight Form being bipedal, I can forgive it because we finally have wolves AND ALSO Rockruff is adorable and perfect AND ALSO because so is Midday Form. Plus, despite rock-type having so many weaknesses, my Midday Lycanroc is pretty strong, so. It works out.
Yamper / Boltund — Okay, I will level with you: a corgi evolving into a greyhound is kind of weird. Also, I do question why they used yorkshire terriers in Unova when they should have saved them for Galar, and instead maybe had like, American bull terriers (a.k.a. pitbulls) in Unova instead (although I guess some could argue that Snubbul / Granbull are pitbulls, but I disagree, I think they look more like English bulldogs than pitbulls). Regardless though, anyone who says that Yamper is anything other than adorable does not have eyes (the puppy has a heart on its butt), and also they are the GOODEST of puppers in how they bring your pokéballs back to you. And while it took me a bit to get used to Boltund, my Boltund, Poppy, is AMAZING and  love her very, very much. This line is great and I love them. ♥
Zacian & Zamazenta — FINALLY, SOME LEGENDARY WOLVES!! And not only are they legendary wolves, but one has a tuft of fur it can turn into a shield around its neck and the other CARRIES A SWORD IN ITS MOUTH, HOW BADASS IS THAT. I do get a little annoyed when people call them doggos when they are actually wolfos, but that doesn’t change how excited I was to have some legendary wolves at last, particularly ones dedicated to beating up hellspawn from space. I love them, they are beautiful, 10/10.
So those are my favorite canine pokémon!! If anyone disagrees with any of these pokémon being canines, I do not care and I do not want to fight about it, please do not send discourse my way. And as a final note, here are two lists of future canines / dog breeds I hope to see in future gens:
Dog Breeds: SHELTIES, miniature schnauzers, Italian greyhounds, German shepherds, Siberian huskies, dachshunds, shiba inu, some kind of spaniel, chihuahua (and it HAS to be fighting-type, it HAS to), and many others. You can never have too many doggos.
I also have to have one more final grievance at the fact that we didn’t get shelties in Galar either considering that sheltie is a nickname for shetland sheepdog, and this breed of dog ORIGINATED IN SCOTLAND, which at least part of Galar (particularly the Crown Tundra) was inspired by, ffs Game Freak why did you miss this opportunity.
Wild Canines: Maned wolves, African wolf, African wild dog, dingos, coyotes, and just more wolves in general, honestly. I would say more foxes too, but we already have several fox lines, and while I wouldn’t say no to them, I want to see more wolves get attention first.
Anyway, thanks for asking!! I love Pokémon and I love canines, so this was a fun ask!

Pokémon AU
Chase Brody
Rillaboom (can Gigantamax), Boltund, Goodra, Ursaring, Polteageist, Banette (has Banettite)
-His starter was Grookey, the little drummer monkey heard Chase absently drumming a rhythm while he was waiting for the bus to get to Hammerlocke and just hopped out of his Pokeball the professor had and over to him and picked him. Grookey nearly bit the Professor when she tried to take him from Chase because he wanted to stay. And they’ve been together ever since.
-Chase travels because it makes him happy to be exploring, to be training with his team. Grookey finding him was the start of Chase getting out of a funk he’d been in for some time and back to being on the right track. He’s a good fighter, not as skilled as someone who goes at it crazy hardcore every day as he’s in it for the fun mostly, not trying to really be the toughest Trainer like some are.
-Is actually thinking of becoming a Breeder after he gets all his badges, as he doesn’t really want to fight the league. Currently Chase is training for fighting Melony or Gordie depending on who has switched in to be the Leader.
-Would lose to little kids that ask him for battle in a heartbeat if he could, but Chase takes it easy on them and gives advice and tips he picked up. And comforts anyone that’s upset after.
-Team order is Rillaboom, Boltund, Goodra, Ursaring, Banette, Polteageist
-Has befriended Jirachi and Nihilego
-Do not under any circumstances upset or hurt a little kid around him, you thought Anti was bad, uh uh, you haven’t seen an angry Chase and no one wants to get their behind handed to them by a protective father.
-Chase takes things at a easy pace, looking around Galar and exploring at his and his ‘Mon’s leisure and taking in the little things most pass by in the rush to get the next badge. He takes a lot of photographs, videos and collects postcards of everywhere he visits.
-He’s the type to save as much as he can in case he needs things later, is very hoard minded as he doesn’t know when it might come in handy. So, this guy is the kind of Trainer to have a ton of Nuggets burning a hole in his pocket for when he’s in need of cash to buy supplies.
-Totally dotes on his ‘Mon, very openly affectionate with them and gives them treats after a battle. Which considering the energy they just burn actually balances out so Nurse Joy doesn’t give him any trouble.
-Has very good aim when he plays games like laser tag or frisbee with other trainers while their teams relax and play when he hangs out with them. Comes in handy for throwing Pokéballs accurately, he can even make curve balls hit. And he’s been trying out different tricks with a toy ball to see if he can copy it with a Pokéball if he can.
-His style is laid back, casual kind of clothing. Hoodies, t shirts and jackets, jeans, shirts, boots and gloves and his snapback cap. He isn’t ever seen without his cap, it was a gift from some people special to him and he thinks it’s his good luck charm.
-The nicknames for his Pokémon are: Rillaboom is Silver, Bolthund is Lucky, Ursaring is Lunar, Goodra is Daisy, Banette is Stitch and Polteageist is Lipton
-He encountered Lucky just after getting Silver who he named that due to him being attracted to the shiny coins as the two walked to get started looking around and bringing them to Chase. Lucky got his name because he was running as fast as he could from a dog catcher and just in time Chaae stopped him and asked what was going on. Lucky was wild and had wandered into town and caused a bit of ruckus by digging up flower beds. So, Chase asked how much the damage was, didn’t bat an eye as he got his wallet out and paid the man to give to the owners of the gardens and turned to Lucky, who’s tail was just wagging like mad and asked if he wanted to come with, the response of being jumped on and licked sent Chase laughing.
-How he met Daisy happened during the long trip through the Wild Area to get to Motostoke. Chase was taking his time to get used to being around so many Pokémon and enjoying the sights. He’d just ran from a too powerful Onyx that had been accidentally nicked by Silver’s Razor Leaf that they were training with, and tripped into a small field of flowers. And there curled up asleep was Daisy, she even had a flower between her antenna. Chase instantly took a picture of her and when the sound of the shutter woke her asked if she wanted to join.
-Meeting Lunar and Stitch was interesting as it happened at the same time. They aren’t native to Galar though with so many Trainers coming in from different regions it’s natural they’re finding more wild or released Mon from other Regions, as well as moves, that weren’t there before as they acclimate to the Wild Areas easily. But, Chase was actually talking with a Trainer he’d just beaten that was recently from Hoenn after going through Johto. They had an Egg but they didn’t really want to switch their team out and just abandoning it wasn’t something they were comfortable with either so as Chase had plenty of room still, he offered to take it.
-And at the same time they handed it over, the Trainer asked if he wouldn’t mind taking on another Mon. And they explained a Ghost Type was following them, their unofficial seventh member at the moment. They didn’t want to just let it run wild when it wouldn’t be a good idea. Chase wasn’t one to turn down an opportunity to help and agreed and a little Shuppet appeared out of thin air and gave Chaae the most hopeful look. All Stitch had wanted was a friend, and now he had more than he knew what to do with!
-Chase took good care of the Egg that turned out to be a Teddiursa who he named Lunar for the crescent moon marking, and he adored caring for the baby Pokémon. All of his team turned into doting siblings honestly and it was very sweet to watch. There was a lot of baby and family pictures taken during this time. Lunar adores his family and will do everything to keep them safe and happy.
-This time was when Chase decided he wanted to try to become a Breeder, taking care of Lunar and his Egg was something he adored doing and he wanted to do that more, and make sure the babies got to good Trainers who would love them as much as he loved his Pokémon.
-Lipton was a cute encoder. Chase was on his way to Ballonlea through Glimwood Tangle and had gotten turned around a lot since the forest was so dark for the most part. He decided to take a bit of a break before he tried again, at least the experience was good for the team. He got out his hackysack and started to play with it lightly and didn’t notice for a bit that a little curious Sinistea was creeping closer. When Chase accidentally threw the hackysack too far, it was caught and then tossed back. Chase laughed a little and the two started a game to see if they could always catch or throw it perfectly.
-Chaae then mentioned needing to get to town as he was reminded he had somewhere to be when he looked at his watch and Lipton led him down the right path, but didn’t want to leave and basically caught himself.
-How he met Jirachi that was a fun one. Jirachi is known to sleep for years at a time, but since Jirachi is a Psychic Type, it’s not unheard of for its mind to reach out to others during its rest. And that’s exactly what happened with Chase, they met in his dreams and Jirachi played with him a lot. The first thing that happened when they met physically was Chase getting knocked off his feet in a ecstatic hug by the wish granting Legendary.
-Nihilego is actually his unofficial seventh team member. He’s not even really sure how they, or she as despite not being genderendd doesn’t seem to mind being referred to with feminine pronouns but it depends on mood for this, met him as Chase just... woke up one morning to find Nihilego over his bed. He assumes from research it’s due to an Ultra Wormhole opening up sometime during the night. While at first wary of being attacked, Nihilego didn’t try to attach to Chase or any of the team. Instead, they just... followed Chase around almost like the child they resemble.
-Chase named them Galaxy because of the Star like pattern they have. And Galaxy stays invisible a lot of the time around other humans, causing mischief sometimes but all in all, they just behave more like a child than an alien Pokémon most of the time. Though that’s not to say they stay like that all the time, sometimes when angered or when she thinks Chase or her family is threatened Galaxy will lash out to protect them. Galaxy sleeps curled up with Chase and the others on the team in a big cuddle pile.
Author’s note
Finally! The next installment is done! XD I’m sorry it took so long to get this out, and that it turned out so long, but I had to figure out the right team and then the rest wrote itself almost. And again, just feel free to ask for more information on anything in the AU if you’re curious! I promise I don’t bite.

On the verge of broken dreams (Hop x Reader) Part 2
author’s note
Okay so this may be slow burn-ish. I’m the most impatient fuck but i had a great idea for this story so, in the event i actually finish it, it should be cool. Btw you can follow me/bookmark this on AO3 https://archiveofourown.org/users/Hyaku . Makes it easier to read all the chapters too.

The next day, you were up early to prepare for your match against Leon. As time went by, you felt your stomach begin to coil into knots, tension building up steadily inside you. When you changed into your gym uniform, you weren’t sure what scared you the most. Was is losing, and that all you had done up until now would be worthless ? Or was it winning and making all that Leon had done until now voided ? Thinking about Leon losing was a crazy thought in itself, but thinking about what consequences that would have was far more terrifying.
And it didn’t help that Leon looked so alike to Hop, you couldn’t help but be reminded of how you had robbed your best friend of his goal in life. But for the sake of everybody cheering you in the stadium, your mom rooting for you at home, your Pokémons, your friends… You had to battle with all your might. You couldn’t half-ass it right now.
You sighed while checking your shoelaces were nicely tied. It wasn’t use torturing yourself about it right now. Leon was undefeated after all, you might as well be just another pebble on his throne of victory.
As the stadium staff told you it was your turn to get onto the pitch, the ball in your stomach became unbelievably heavy. The dozen steps you had to take in the small tunnel under the rows of seats seemed to stretch like gum, your legs feeling numb and wobbly. But against all odds, you managed to emerge into the blazing lights of Wyndon Stadium and walked up to the center of it. In front of you, Leon was doing the same, the widest smile on his face and an absolutely confident demeanor.
There was no way you could beat him, right ?
He grinned at you, saying that he was excited to battle you, that you were promising and such, but his words were drowning in the tension and the cries of everybody around. Then he removed his cape in a swift movement and the battle began.
If you were bedazzled by the atmosphere of the champion fight at first, muscle memory came back after a few instants and your Pokémon synced in with you perfectly. You didn’t have the best or most optimal team by type standards, but you had Pokémon you loved and they gave it back to you tenfold. You could trust them to take a hard hit and still stand up, to fight until the end and then a bit more. Where sometimes you felt in a pinch or at loss for action, your friends compensated by going all in and brute forcing the opposite team with an energy you’d rarely seen before.
And, at last, you were up against Leon’s Charizard. While the orange dragon looked nothing too impressive in his normal form, that was bound to change when the champion gigantamaxed him. Looming over the field, the enormous reptile taunted your whole team. So you did the same, sending one of your Pokémon to dynamax. It wasn’t as flashy as Leon’s throw and transformation, but you found your Pokémon to be way cooler.
Picking one of Charizard’s weaknesses, you ordered your attack but the big dragon was faster. And even if your Pokémon wasn’t weak to fire per se, it hit him, hard. Charizard was in no better shape though, and looking up at your Pokémon, you mouthed a silent “sorry”. You couldn’t draw him out before the next attack, and he knew that if he avoided this one, it would fall on another teammate. So he toughened up and waited for your orders, head held high. Charizard scorched the battlefield again, and your Pokémon fainted in a gigantic explosion of dynamax energy and fire, retreating immediately to his Pokéball.
“You did great” you muttered while choosing who was going next.
Charizard only had one turn in Gigantamax left, so you chose another tough Pokémon that should be able to withstand at least one hit. Just one. You sent your pick next, and it was then that you realized you were one hit close to beating Leon. The undefeatable champion.
Staring at him across the field, you saw sweat dripping on his brow, and his usually wide, beaming eyes were now looking very concentrated, and maybe worried. He was down to his last Pokémon, which hadn’t happened in a long time. His eyebrows were frowned, and his hand hovered to his Pokéball belt in a protective manner.
Your heart ached again, being reminded how you had already broken Hop, and were possibly about to do the same to his brother. Your mind raced and you almost wanted to give up. You didn’t want to beat him, did you ? You wanted to… but you didn’t want to rob him of his future. There was no way you could see Leon as something else than the champion of Galar, and the one Hop was looking up to.
Your eyes wandered into the public and on the front row, you saw Sonia, Marnie, all the gym leaders and… Hop. Hop was there, cheering but you couldn’t hear what he was screaming. Even from the distance, your gazes met, and Hop seemed to smile even wider. Your stomach flipped upside down, hair standing up on the back of your neck. Was he cheering you ? Baffled, you pointed at yourself while wearing the most puzzled expression, and Hop started waving like crazy and jumping around.
You couldn’t let him down a second time.
The ball in your gut having nestled in your throat, you croakily order your Pokémon to attack one last time, and this time he’s faster than Charizard. You almost don’t see the two creatures collide and then Leon’s Pokémon is out in an explosion. And he has not one more to spare.
The public roars louder than you’ve ever heard and for a moment it blanks out every other sensation or thought in your body. You can see Leon hiding his face with his cap, something you’ve never seen him do before. The sound gradually dies down as the public waits for a speech from their new champion, but you can’t move a finger.
Hopefully, Leon saves you once more and pulls you into a hug. You’re thankful he did, because your legs wouldn’t have held you much longer. You wrap your arms around him and try very hard to keep the tears at bay, your arms trembling and your head feeling fuzzy like a Cottonee. Leon finally pulls away and says, a mix of sadness and joy in his voice
“I’m so glad I battled you. It was one of the best matches I ever had.”
Then he grabs your hand to raise it high in the sky and claims
“Galar, you have a new Champion !!”
And the public screams again, a thunderous sound that shakes the walls of the stadium and almost makes you fall.
After waving and smiling a few times, maybe uttering a few thank yous, you retreat to your locker room, still stunned.
You’re the champion. You have beaten Leon. Was it the right choice, though ? You didn’t really have any other…
You felt too exhausted to change, and Leon had given you his big cape “For the time being”. You didn’t quite listen to him, so either he was willing to take back his title, or it was for the time your official champion uniform took to be made. Either way, it made you feel safer, and if everything was too much you could just curl up under it and forget about the world, and what a horrible person you were.
Moving out of the locker room, you were assaulted by a crowd of reporters and people calling your name, asking you questions, going as far as grabbing your hands, your clothes, touching you. You smiled weakly while tugging the cape closer to you, and then the crowd parted a bit. You saw Hop rush towards you and literally jump onto you.
“You did it, mate !!!” he exclaimed while giving you the biggest, tightest hug you ever felt from him.
His eyes were gleaming, his smile was the widest, and he couldn’t stay in place. He looked so happy for you but you couldn’t help but think he should’ve been in your place.
You wanted to tell him how much you were sorry, how bad you felt, how you didn’t deserve any of this. Maybe you wanted him to be mad at you, just a little bit, so you wouldn’t feel like such a fraud. But the words were stuck in your throat, your head spinning because of the amount of people around you.
So you did the next logical thing : you grabbed Hop and ran into one of the elevators that were inside the lobby, and ordered the doors to be closed. Pressing a random floor button, you sighed as the sound of the crowd grew lower and thinner. Hop was taken aback, staring at you with a puzzled look.
“Hop, I’m so sorry !”
You grabbed him by the shoulders, to anchor you and not run away rather than the other way round. The words spilled from your mouth and there was nothing to stop them.
“I’ve done it again… I’ve taken Leon’s dream after taking yours, I’m the worst.”
You felt the ball starting to rise again, much quicker, and your voice cracked and shivered.
“I tried to find a way out. I wanted to stop it, to give up, to say I didn’t want to be the champion. I would’ve done anything, anything. You should’ve been the one facing him, Hop”
Your voice broke as you said his name and you couldn’t say anything more, tears threatening to spill over.
Hop called your name gently a few times, until you rose your head to look at him, eyes glistening.
“Hey, it’s okay. It’s not your fault I couldn’t get to battle Leon, if it was anyone’s fault it was mine. And you did a great job today, don’t let anyone tell you you’re not worthy of being the champion.”
While he was saying that, he was rubbing gentle circles onto your shoulders to ease up the tension, and was giving you a very soft smile. His eyes were proud yet muddled with worry, and you felt another pang of guilt in your heart. You made him worry…
“As for Leon, I’m sure he’ll deal with it. If he was scared of losing his title, he wouldn’t endorse anyone. He looked like he was having fun, he’ll get over it.”
You stared into his eyes as he tried to reason and calm you. You wanted to believe him so much. You wanted to push all the terrible thoughts you held for yourself far, far away.
Even if he wasn’t your rival anymore, you still felt some yearning for him. There was something drawing you to him and in this instant, you wanted to stay like this forever. Just you and him, holding him and being held. His voice telling you that everything would be okay, soft whispers to soothe the turbulent emotions inside of you.
The elevator slowed down and you realized you were back to the ground floor, the sound of the reporters getting stronger again. You heard a small ding, and knew the doors would open soon.
Hop seemed to be lost in the same reverie as you, his stare gliding over your features, hands a bit firmer, stronger onto your shoulders. His long lashes fluttered when his gaze lowered and you wanted to see him do it again.
The doors started to open with a low hiss and, by Arceus, you wanted to slam the button to close the door so hard. You wanted this instant to last just a bit longer before being caught in the whirlpool of reality again so much. But you couldn’t. As the doors revealed the crowd to you and you to the crowd, the moment was over and Hop’s hand quickly fell from your body as he stared at the horde of fans, a bit intimidated.
As you went out of the elevator, you smiled at the crowd and signed autographs, and when one of the nosiest journalists asked what you were doing with your rival, you answered
“Hop is my friend, and will always be. He is my friend before being my rival, and I’m his friend before being the Champion. The fact that I have won changes nothing, as we both fought with all we had.”
You at least wanted to make things a little bit right for him. This wouldn’t erase anything, but you wanted him to know… you would’ve done anything for him.

Kenny’s IWLD 2K19 Performance
Name: Kenny Lecavalier
Pokemon (moves) used: Alakazam (Shadow Ball, Teleport, Psychic, Confusion), Breloom (Stun Spore, Energy Ball, Mega Drain, Sky Uppercut), Machoke (Scary Face, Strength, Vital Throw, Cross Chop), Prinplup (Metal Claw, Bubble Beam, Drill Peck, Hydro Pump).
Music used (Apologies for five of them. His performance splits into parts and wouldn’t make much sense to have one in any two so I’m lucky I manged to just use five. I admit, the last two aren’t necessary but it adds humor.): Big Top Bop; Four Seasons; Avatar Theme; Twelfth Street Rag; Sweet Victory;
Props: A clipboard and a microphone and the free use of the jumbo screen.
Tumblr media
The coordinator from Twinleaf Town felt good about his chances walking out of this event the victor. Having bribed host Ursula with a proposition she can’t refuse, and promising judge Lotor to keep a secret he won’t reveal, he was promised in return a perfect score for his freestyle. He didn’t plan ahead much for this event as a result of said agreement.
He walked out on stage, with the necessary Pokémon balls in hand. He decided to go with the following four Pokémon: Breloom, Prinplup, Machoke and Alakazam.
Tumblr media
“Come on out, team!” Kenny shouted as he tossed his Pokéballs into the air. Popping out of their Pokeballs, one of them was his trusty water starting penguin, Prinplup. Prinplup was wearing a hearty bowtie. Next was his only grass Pokémon, Breloom, whom was wearing a pink ribbon tied around her tail; next, his strong muscular fighting type Machoke who wore a white t-shirt with red hearts on it; and, lastly, his psychic powerhouse, Alakazam sporting a red scarf, because red means Valentine’s Day.
The coordinator himself was wearing a black suit with a coattail going down to his thighs. He did sport a red heart pin on his jacket to show that it was indeed a Valentine’s Day outfit.
He brought along with him, a clipboard and a microphone, to talk via the intercom.
The clipboard contained a copy of the rubric of how scoring will play out. Page 1 wasn’t a concern of his because he was going to be getting a perfect score. Page 2 showed how all the contestants will receive bonuses throughout the performance, page 3 was a list of penalty point deductions, and page 4 was a checklist for Kenny to go through his Pokémon’s moveset.
Holding up the clipboard, he wrapped the paper around to page 3 and talked up to the judges residing his freestyle: Ursula and Lotor.
“Okay, so as you both can see, we’re all dressed for this event. So no deductions there! We’re all dressed up in a Valentine’s Day theme, so there’s no deduction there either! In fact, these Pokémon I have out, look very cute right now. And they’re not typically described as cute normally. But in these outfits, they’re definitely cute. So, give me those 5 points for making them cute bonus per Pokémon. That will be a 20 point bonus! And, lastly, as a reminder from your rubric, since direct commands are NOT a deduction this time around…we’re ready to begin!”
“Machoke! Use scary face! Why? Because we’re going for the using all four moves on four Pokémon bonus!” Kenny announced, looking up at the judges to make sure they were watching to be on the lookout for this bonus.
Machoke stared out to the audience, giving them an intimidating glare, the scary face kept them in their seats and prevent them from missing out on Kenny’s true intentions for later. Kenny flipped to page 4 on his clipboard which was a checklist for Pokémon moves to use.
(Big Top Bop plays)
“Okay, now Machoke, show the audience your strength by picking up all three of your teammates.”
Prinplup, Alakazam, and Breloom were all gathered around in a circle, allowing the fighting type to lift all three of them up with his arms with his strength.
“Wow! Nearly 250 pounds, and he picks them up like their straws of hay! Incredible strength.” Kenny said. What does this have to do with his freestyle? Nothing, but it’s another move to check off the list.
“Okay, next. Machoke, put Breloom and Alakazam down.” Kenny ordered and Machoke kept the penguin Pokémon in his arms. “Now we’re going to do a highly risky move! But we’re going to trust Alakazam to do this safely. Ready? Okay, Machoke, use vital throw on Prinplup against the wall!”
“Ma-CHOKE!” Machoke cried.
Machoke swings his arms and chucks Prinplup towards the wall from the vital throw. The water penguin approached the wall at fast speeds, and let out a panicked cry.
“Alakazam! Use confusion now!” Kenny shouted.
“Ala-kazam!” Alakazam’s eyes turned red as he focused on helping out Prinplup. Prinplup’s momentum stopped thanks to Alakazam’s confusion and the penguin was gently placed back down, much to the water type’s relief.
“What if I was just a second too late to call out that confusion? Phew! Prinplup would’ve been at the Pokémon Center for weeks! What a risk! I guess relying on Alakazam’s confusion was like some sort of trust fall! So, that was a risky maneuver! BONUS!” Kenny suddenly shouted at and pointed up to the judges to make sure they took note of it.
Kenny again went to his clipboard and crossed off that he had done both vital throw and confusion. Next on the list was teleport. Another move that will have nothing to do with the plot of his freestyle but is to be used for the bonus points.
“Alright, Alakazam, teleport over to the other side of the stage, and then teleport back.” Kenny instructed his psychic Pokémon to do.
“Alakazam.” Alakazam nodded then pressed his spoons together and vanished. He quickly reappeared on the other side of the stage before repeating the process and used teleport to go back, standing alongside his trainer once again.
“Okay, teleport, check,” Kenny checked off. Now to make sure he’s not deducted for not focusing on all his Pokémon, he shifted the attention on to his grass type.
“Breloom, show the audience how much air you can get with a sky uppercut!” Kenny instructed. Breloom’s right arm began to illuminate into a bright white color as she jumped 18 feet in the air with a sky uppercut.
“Machoke, meet her up there with a cross chop!”
Machoke jumped into the air, crossing his arms together; like Breloom before him, both his arms glowed a bright white color and he clashed his cross chop with Breloom’s sky uppercut. This resulted in a loud clanging sound rung around the stage.
“Wow, what a collision,” Kenny commented, as if only half interested, more focused on his check list. “So, that’s all four moves from Machoke with his cross chop and a sky uppercut from Breloom.”
Both Pokémon landed on their feet. Now it was time for the freestyle to give focus to Prinplup and Alakazam.
“Alakazam! Use shadow ball and send it towards Prinplup!” Kenny commanded.
Alakazam clashed his spoons together and formed a black shadow ball that he then shot at Prinplup.
“Prinplup, use metal claw to deflect it,” Kenny instructed his water penguin Pokémon.
“Prin-plup,” Prinplup’s wings turned white for metal claw and he deflected the shadowball into the air. The shadowball exploded about 20 feet in the air, filling the atmosphere with small purple auroras that rained back down towards the stage.
After checking off shadow ball and metal claw off the moves list, Kenny went back to the 2nd page with the bonuses.
“Creating Valentine’s Day colors, in this case, purple, using moves that don’t normally produce those colors. Shadow Ball is multi-color, Metal Claw is white, and we produced a purple light show. That’s a five point bonus!” Kenny nodded toward the judges again to make sure they record that.
“Now, Prinplup, time for the next act, use drill peck!” Kenny shouted.
Prinplup, keeping his ground, had his beak glow white like his arms before him and start spinning around as the name of his move implies, drill peck. The penguin Pokémon  picked up speed by the second.
“Now, if Breloom would do the honors,” he looked down to his grass type, who gave him a nod.
The grass type jumped up and did a flip, landing her top like head on Prinplup’s spinning beak. The display was like two spinning tops on top of one another and as Prinplup begun to move around the stage, Breloom was matching his every move. The two were stuck to each other like magnets. When the two got back to their starting point, Prinplup stopped spinning and allowed Breloom to get off.
While Breloom did land back on her feet, she looked dizzy and started to wobble.
“Bre-loooom,” Breloom started to fall, but Prinplup caught her, much to the relief of the rest of the team.
“Nice catch, Prinplup,” Kenny commended his starter Pokémon. “I didn’t expect Breloom to get dizzy. What are we going to do? We need her for the grand finale.”
“Prinplup,” Prinplup chirped to his trainer.
“You have an idea Prinplup?” Kenny asked. The penguin nodded. “Well, okay, I totally trust you to find a way to get us out of this.”
(Four Seasons)
Prinplup paused for a second before an idea came to his mind to play it off. Taking Breloom’s arms, he gave her a twirl to get her balanced and started to lead the grass type into a waltz dance.
Reviewing the rubric, Kenny realized this was helping him out better than he had hoped.
“Wow! Look how cute a couple they are! A water type and a grass type! Natural rivals, but tonight make quite the perfect valentines for each other! That’s a 20 point bonus! And, I didn’t expect Breloom to get dizzy so this was totally unexpected! Nice improvisation Prinplup! Glad I trusted you! That just also happens to be an extra 10 point bonus!” He winked up towards the judges. Oh, you better get that one down, judges. He can practically begin to feel that Sweet Love Ribbon.
It will be all for naught though if he doesn’t start making this look more like a real freestyle though, so that’s what he’ll have to immediately shift to.
“Okay, now let’s really get this going. Hydro Pump, Prinplup!” Kenny shouted.
(Avatar Theme)
After letting go of Breloom, Prinplup took center stage and blasted out a hydro pump, a big shot of water, up towards the ceiling.
“Alakazam! Halt that water with confusion!” Kenny commanded his psychic type.
Alakazam’s eyes glowed red and the water was suspended in the air with confusion as he had similarly done with Prinplup earlier in the performance.
“Now it’s your turn, Breloom, use Mega Drain on the water!”
Breloom stepped up and focused on the water. Sucking out the energy with mega drain, as the water began to shrink. Combined with Alakazam’s confusion, the water began to wind down into the shape of a heart.
A water heart was at the front center of the stage.
“Nice use of your grass type move on Prinplup’s water move, Breloom,” Kenny commended. “I believe that’s another bonus, a 5 point bonus in fact for using moves that are weak against each other. Oh and since we have a heart, you can’t deduct any points from me saying this isn’t Valentines themed.” Shifting his attention back on Breloom, he had another command for his grass type.
“This is nice and all, but let’s give the stage a bit more color. Stun spore, Breloom, now!”
Now it’s time to give Ursula what he promised he would do in order for his promised perfect score from her side. Prinplup, Machoke, and Alakazam were all a safe distance back from the move to prevent them from getting paralyzed.
Breloom started to release her stun spore through the spores on her tail. It was quite a light dose, but it took a minute to spread at the front of the stage.
“Not bad, but let’s spread some of this around. Use energy ball! It will be your fourth move!”
A white ball of energy formed at the tip of Breloom’s mouth. She unleashed the energy ball at the ground and a small explosion occurred.
Most of the stun spore dissipated, but the draft caused the front most of the stun spore to make its way into the crowd. While the audience didn’t know it was affecting them, the most minuscule of contact with stun spore will still cause them mild symptoms. In their case, it was if they felt like their legs were asleep but they could easily mistake that from sitting on this event for so long, and so, wouldn’t accuse a performer of attacking them with stun spore. Another side effect is that it left the audience with the inability to blink.
With the audience now stuck to their seats, it was time for fun.
“Alright, everyone, now I would like you all to draw your attention to the jumbo screen.” Kenny addressed the crowd through the microphone while pointing up to the large screen.
A picture of what became infamously known as Mustachegate from the All Hallows Eve 2018 event was displayed on the screen. He heard some in the audience begin to chuckle and laugh. Nah, this wasn’t going to do it. He needs them to roar with laughter!
(Twelfth Street Rag starts to play)
“Anyone remember this? That time when someone made a pumpkin to look like Ursula back at All Hallows Eve 2018, and then messed up and accidentally gave her a mustache?! Remember?! I have to say for a quite some time, I couldn’t even recognize the real Ursula with her lack of facial hair. I mean, look at it! Her mustache looked thicker than Alakazam’s mustache!”
Next a picture of the real Ursula showed up on the screen. Suddenly a new picture emerged, one of Ursula photoshopped with the mustache of an Alakazam! This got the crowd laughing much harder. Closer to where he needs them to be…but not quite.
“I mean twins! Right?” Kenny asked the audience. Now the screen was split between the photoshopped Alakazam-Mustached!Ursula and a picture of a regular Alakazam.
Now the crowd was howling.
Alright, now it’s time to finish the deal.
Or wait a minute.
Tumblr media
Kenny soaked in the laughter and looked up at Ursula. He gave her a mischievous grin with a shrug.
He let another full minute go by. Yes, a full 60 seconds. He had the crowd where he wanted them, and it’s not like he said to Ursula he wouldn’t make Mustachegate worse for a bit for his own amusement before executing his promise.
“Okay, Alakazam, time to get these people to forget.” Kenny looked over to Alakazam. “Alakazam, use psychic!”
Alakazam’s eyes turned a shade of blue as he focused on the crowd. Suddenly, the crowd’s laughter was halted and the whole crowd suddenly had blank expressions on their faces as a result of Alakazam’s powerful psychic attack.
“Psychic! Psychic! Psychic is a bonus move! That’s a five point bonus!” Kenny turned his body back towards the judge and shouted before quickly turning back around and got serious again.
The place was as quiet as a library. With the crowd now relaxed and in a trance, it was time to deliver on the deal to land him a perfect score.
“Alright Alakazam, enter their minds. Make them forget about the whole Mustachegate saga. Make them forget about this whole thing.” Kenny instructed.
“Kazam-Ala.” Alakazam said. And just like that the deed was done.
(Sweet Victory plays)
Kenny looked up at Ursula.
“There! Mission accomplished. Now you both owe me a perfect score! And one last thing, remember that scary face I did earlier? I believe scary face qualifies as a move with negative connotations. I turned it into a positive thing for you because it helped me be able to pull this off and restore your reputation. That’s a 7 point bonus!”
While the intention was to get the audience to forget about Mustachegate from All Hallow’s Eve and to have them forget about the new stunt he had just pulled for his own amusement, he accidentally instructed Alakazam to forget about his entire freestyle performance, including from those who could’ve voted for him to get potential points.
Unaware of that though, Kenny instructed Prinplup to do one last final move.
“Okay, Prinplup, the deed is done. Now wake them up from their trance and wash away the stun spore with bubble beam.”
“Prin-plup plup plup!” Prinplup cried out while streams of bubbles shot out of his mouth that pelted the audience to wake them up from their light trance, as well as wash off any last small side effect from the stun spore.
The bubble beam did its work as the audience looked to be back to normal.
“Great job, Prinplup! Okay, that was move number 4 from Prinplup. This means I now have used all four moves from all four of my Pokémon! Uh, judges, that’s a 10 point bonus!” He snapped his fingers up at the judges and pointed to them with a grin. “And because I used all my Pokémon’s moves I can’t be deducted for not focusing on them!”
Looking on the bonus page, he noticed there was one last potential chance at a bonus before he leaves the stage. If he were to give the judges a gift for Valentine’s Day depicting them as boyfriend/girlfriend, he could secure another whopping 30 points.
Lucky for him, it says give them a gift. Not buy them a gift. So he had one last idea to close this whole thing out.
Before he said it was over, he took his fourth piece of paper off from his clipboard, which he had used to check mark his moves from his Pokémon. On the back piece of the paper, Kenny drew stick figures depicting Lotor and Ursula. They were standing on a hill, holding hands with one another, and smiling. There was a sun drawn in the background. Kenny drew hearts as a border around the picture and wrote at the bottom “Happy Valentine’s Day 2K19”.
Afterwards, Kenny folded the piece of paper into a paper airplane and threw it up to the judges. When he sees Ursula look at it, he shouts up one last time.
“That’s a 30 point bonus!”
He then returned his attention on his Pokémon to thank them for their hard work. While this might’ve been his most complacent performance, it was still quite a lot of work.
Tumblr media
“Great job everyone! We really nailed that freestyle!” Kenny thanked his Pokémon.
“Prinplup,” Prinplup chirped.
“Breloom,” Breloom nodded.
“Machoke!” Machoke cheered.
“Kazam-Ala.” Alakazam added.
Kenny then returned his Pokémon to their respective Pokéballs.
“Have that Sweet Love Ribbon ready for me!” Kenny shouted up to the judges as he jogged off backstage, ending his freestyle.
Now it was just time to wait for his perfect score to come in, along with his expected bonuses. He was certain that the grand prize was going to be his.
((ooc: So, yeah, if you’re a voter, you can’t really vote for Kenny. Seeing as your muse shouldn’t remember his freestyle. The only excuse you can give is if you like his outfit or your muse likes getting pelted in the face with bubbles.))

Lonashipping Week 2018 -     Day 3
Time Skip
For other amazing works inspired by the prompt, check out @lonashippingweek!
Gladion deadbolts the door behind him, drawing the curtains closed on the dusk approaching outside. The lamp in the corner stutters to life, filling the small motel room with a cold wash of light from the corner. With a quick flick of his wrist, he releases Type: Null from the Pokéball, watching as the creature stretches, grateful to be out after having to spend an entire day tucked away.
He gives Type: Null a lopsided smile as his entire body drops onto the bed, sitting on the edge and feeling his muscles ache for relief. When he glances down at his legs, he can see a new bruise forming on his shin. He wasn't sure what to expect when he agreed to accept working with Team Skull, but he had no idea that the grunt work they would shovel onto him would essentially be manual labor. He'd proven his battling prowess a while ago, but they still had yet to trust him (which is fair enough, considering Gladion doesn't trust them in the slightest). For now, he's stuck mostly with odd jobs, transporting goods and having to be the occasional distraction as the other grunts made their escape.
Type: Null gives him a curious look, and Gladion stands, patting the creature's neck as he mumbles, "Just a little tired, don't worry." He frowns, watching as the restless Pokémon goes to walk around the familiar room, doing its best to stretch its legs. "I'm sorry I can't take you out, but it's too dangerous." The apology feels hollow, but he pushes aside the feeling as he goes to the mini fridge to grab his dinner.
There's half a bag of dried fruit, off-brand potato chips, and a soda that's been flat for a few days now. Gladion sighs, grabbing the dried fruit and making his way back to the bed, sitting down on the edge and trying his best to smile as Type: Null settles down by the boy's feet. A beep from his Pokedex draws his attention, and as Gladion pulls out the device to see that it's just turned midnight.
He sighs, falling back onto the bed and staring up at the ceiling, wondering if this is what rock bottom looks like when you're fifteen sixteen.
"Happy birthday to me."
He's woken up by someone repeatedly poking his cheek and whispering his name.
That someone, as it turns out, is his girlfriend – the very same girlfriend he now sort of regrets giving his house key to.
"I thought you'd never wake up," Moon laughs, though she keeps her voice quiet. In the dark, he can still make out her smile, the familiar gray eyes as warm and electric as he remembers, yet they still make his heart stammer when he first opens his eyes.
He sits up with a groan, brows furrowed as he takes a glance at the clock on his bedside table before looking back at her sitting on the edge of his bed. "You know I love when you visit, but waking me up at midnight is mildly concerning." Silvally watches from his bed in the corner, tired from a long day of running around Aether, and the relaxed way the Pokémon sits up and watches his owner confirms Gladion's suspicion that there's no catastrophe afoot.
Moon leans in to place a kiss on his cheek, feeling his lips curl into a lazy smile before she sits back. "There's nothing to be worried about." She pauses, chewing her cheek in thought before shrugging and teasing, "Except for growing old."
His brows furrow as his sleepy mind slowly tries to piece together the clues. "What day is it?"
She grins, leaning down and sitting back up with a neatly wrapped present in her hand as she whispers with nothing but warmth in her voice, "Happy birthday, Gladion."
He chuckles, stunned into silence for a few moments as he feels something light and warm settle in his stomach and spread throughout his body. "You're earlier than usual this year," he notes, still not sure how to process the fact that someone like her still cares so much for him.
"It's not every year that you turn 21." She gives him a wink, adding, "Besides, Hau and Lillie are planning the best party for later, so this is my only chance to one-up them."
They share a laugh before it falls into a comfortable silence. Gladion reaches out, tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear before his fingers linger on her cheek, tracing the freckles that he could spend ages counting. Moon subconsciously leans into his touch, her smile growing ever so slightly as she watches him with soft eyes.
Before his heart can burst, she holds the present up once more, giving it a playful shake. "Do you want your present or not?"
"I thought you were my present."
Moon groans, rolling her eyes and giving him a light shove, though her giggle follows shortly after. Gladion grins, laughing as she laments, "You're the worst when you're sleepy."
"So why'd you wake me up?"
"Because I can't resist that bedhead." To prove her point, she gives him another kiss, this time on the crown of his head, before gently pressing the small box into his hands. "Now stop stalling and open it."
He carefully unties the ribbon around it, then makes a small tear in the paper to reveal a ring box. Pausing, he looks up at Moon, but she only bites her lip and nods, urging him to open it. When he does, there's a ring of oddly familiar metal, two pieces wrapped around each other in a simple band. He lifts it out, and looks to Moon to question it, when she explains, "This is from the helmet that broke off when both of our Silvally's evolved. I found a jeweler who took metal from both and made this."
"It's amazing," Gladion breathes, the rest of his air stolen from his lungs as he looks at the amazing craftsmanship. Feeling her eyes on him, he slips the ring onto his finger and finds that it's a perfect fit. Wanting to crack the final tension in the room, he meets her gaze and teases, "Are you proposing?"
"Well, uh...sort of."
This is the closest he may come to a heart attack.
Gladion's eyes widen as he scans her face for any sign of a joke, but he only finds earnest embarrassment and a rosy blush building on her cheeks. He tries desperately to come up with some sort of response that could even begin to encapsulate the surprise, excitement, and love that he feels, but everything comes up short.
Before the silence can stretch too long, Moon explains, "I know we're still too young, so this is more of – well, a promise to propose. At a better time and place." She chews her bottom lip before releasing the breath she's holding, reaching for his hand and gently tangling their fingers together with a small smile. "I just want to put the idea in your head, because it's something I've been thinking about."
He gives her hand a reassuring squeeze, but he keeps his eyes on the ground as he hesitates. "I never thought I'd get married."
"Not a fan of marriage?"
"No, no, I..." He trails off, and he goes to hold her other hand, pressing both to his lips before finally looking up at her with a happily stunned smile. "I just never thought I'd be this happy."
The words break her heart and she lunges at him, hugging him tight even as they fall back onto the bed in a pile of limbs, Gladion laughing and Moon peppering his cheeks and jaw with kisses. When they settle, breathing synced in the dark of the room, Gladion sighs contentedly, no longer fighting the grin on his face as he holds her tighter.
She gives him another kiss, this time lingering on the corner of his lips, gentle and sweet. When he looks down at her, she simply whispers, "Happy birthday, Gladion."
And it's the happiest one so far.
Something a lil shorter that’s a mix of angst and super sweet fluff because we deserve this damnit

Title: Dramatic Entrance is my Middle Name
Summary: Evil teams are predictable in any region. Even in Sinnoh.
Note: I was playing Pokemon Pearl for the first time in ages (I had a copy but I haven’t played since I got into Free! so most of my Pokémon are named after YOI and ONS characters) and I realised I haven’t finished it so I’m in Eterna atm which is where this fic came from. Hahahaha.
I accidentally ended up naming my rival (Barry) after Yuri P because in the Manga Pearl is so!!! dedicated!!! and a great!!! battler!!! I didn’t expect him to be so hyper in the games. And I named my Piplup after Victor because Emperor Penguin, in retrospect, I should have switched them.
Anyway, this fic is so named because well middle name can also be Maiden Name. Aka, mother’s last name before marriage. So, *wink*. You’ll see what I mean after you read.
“What was I fighting for again??” The man in a – you assumed – blue green bowl-cut wig and some kind of space alien suit screamed as (not) his Wurmple slumped to the ground in defeat.
You turned around, seeing that the rest of the grunts in the room were still typing even after their defeat. You sighed and bent down to take the Pokéball that was stolen.
“What do you have against taking Pokémon from others?” You froze as the grunt whimpered. “Look in any field or forest! Those things aren’t exactly rare-”
You reach down and snatch the Pokéballs from his hands, returning Wurmple to its ball. “You want to know what my problem is with it?” You asked, laughing softly. “It’s wrong to belittle anyone’s efforts. Regardless if that effort is as big as lets say becoming the Pokémon Champion of a region or as small as capturing your first Pokémon.” You flick the grunt in the nose for kicks and walk away.
“What a strange region.” You mutter, holding the coat you had hastily bought from the department store closer to your body. Sinnoh was much colder than Alola. You thought you could get by with a jacket and maybe some pants. But, as soon as you took a step off the boat you were assaulted by merciless chilly winds that made your teeth shake.
And don’t even get started on the evil team. After you helped out the little girl in Floaroma Town – and hearing about how the town was created (you suspected, by Shaymin) – you managed to make it to Eterna City to meet their league Champion, Cynthia, only to realize that almost everyone in town had their Pokémon taken by the strange Team Galactic.
They had a building. Why on earth hadn’t Cynthia seen this? And if she did, why isn’t she dealing with this? Heck, there’s a gym in this city. What’s Gardenia doing about this?
Either the people in Sinnoh have no idea what evil teams are capable of or they’re just blind to how strong of a group Team Galactic is becoming.
Well, you guess, even Team Skull’s Po Town couldn’t be stopped at the time. But, at least they had Nanu on the inside.
“Why thank you, we love it when people come to us to donate their Pokémon!” chirped another girl with an unflattering bowl-cut wig.
“You want my Pokémon so bad…” You release Luxio – one you raised from a Shinx you caught shortly after your arrival at Sinnoh – and it growls, unleashing electricity on (not) her Silcoon. “Take it.” Sophocles – Luxio’s name – made quick work of (not) her three Pokémon and you picked up the Pokéballs, stuffing it in your increasingly heavy backpack. “This is taking way too long-”
Your phone rang in your back pocket and you smirk, picking it up. “Hey, gorgeous.”
“That’s my line.” Gladion laughed, the telltale sound of him battling with Hau creating a calming background noise to his voice. “You met Cynthia?” He asked.
“Yes, and yes I got her autograph for you. You fan boy.” You grinned, only half listening to another grunt’s shouts of ordinary people like you not being able to understand Team Galactic’s grand plans and all that jazz. “As you can probably hear, though. I’ve infiltrated one of their weird evil team’s bases. There’s a huge building here in Eterna.”
“Wow. A building?” Gladion asked, stopping for a moment. The battle noises stopped. “Do you need back-up?” He adds.
You smile, knowing him he’d fly all night to get to Eterna by the next morning to help you out. “I’ve got it under control for now. I might call you in on that if this goes any deeper, though.” You say, meeting eyes with some kind of scientist. “Look, I have to go. This scientist just saw me. It looks like another battle.”
“Right.” Gladion snorted, amused by your inability to keep out of trouble. “I love you.”
You smile. “I love you, too.” The scientist seems to groan at the sappy nature of your phone call and you sign for him to wait a second. “I’ll call you when it’s time to kick ass so you better make a grand entrance!”
Gladion laughed. “Given who I’m related to?” He scoffed. “‘Dramatic entrance’ is my middle name.”
