Some Banana Fish rants lol

I think it's very funny when people say that Ash and Eiji weren't in love because they weren't sexually involved.

In my opinion, Ash wouldn't want to be sexually involved with anyone. I see him as asexual which is kinda not related since I do think he'd just not want to be sexually involved with anyone because of his trauma, so I guess it'd be more relevant saying he could be celibate.

Either way, it's canon they were soulmates, so I don't know what some people are blabbering about

Since the anime ending is left for interpretation, I just imagine a happy ending with Ash and Eiji, but the manga ending is so sad. Homophobia, I think

I know the creator said something along the lines,

"What makes people think Ash will be happy in Japan?"

A lot. I think it would take him a long time to recover from the stuff that happened, but I'm sure he'd feel happier not having to deal with gang stuff and just healing with Eiji. He isn't going to forget everything, obviously, but it's better than having to deal with your emotions, past, trauma, etc, while also having to deal with the harsh present.

I'd rewatch, but I think I've had enough of sad gays. Listening to Prayer X rn

Safe Haven

The small pebbles crunched underneath the cautious steps of the determined teenager. The red converse he wore beat up and worn out from the number of years he had owned them. The boy’s jacket and jeans had small tears in them from the fights he had gone through; however, underneath all of that was a beautiful man. His blonde hair slightly covered his forehead, and his jade-green eyes could burn through one’s soul. 

“Ash!” The black-haired boy named Eiji shouted out. 

The paranoid boy then quickly turned around, his hood flying off of his head. He even grasped the gun secured in his belt, but, could you blame the boy? He lived in New York City, and it wasn’t exactly the safest place, especially since Ash didn’t have a normal life. Ash’s eyes softened as he saw the person he trusted most in this cruel world. The bright lights of the colorful screens on the city's buildings shined on Eji, causing him to look ethereal. Ash felt comfort as Eiji walked towards him with an eye smile in the dark night. 

“I’ve been looking for you everywhere! I even went to see if you went to the library,” Eiji continued as he finally caught up to Ash, “Shorter and Sing are waiting for us back at the apartment.” 

Eiji grabbed Ash’s arm in a gentle manner and they started walking in the direction of the apartment complex they lived in. Even though Eiji has been in New York for around a year now, he was still amazed by the city. The bright-eyed boy looked around in awe at the bright city lights. New York City was known as “the city that never sleeps”, so it was only natural that there was still hustle and bustle, even at this time of the night. There was always so much going on. The sound of people talking and cars honking. The endless amount of people on their phones, which they relied upon. Ash always found it a bit dumb how much time people would spend with their noses practically shoved into their phones screens. He just scoffed at the thought of being so consumed by something such as social media. Ash then thought, why would you even want to put your whole life out onto the internet?  However, Eiji was just curious and pondered about how their eyes didn’t ache after a period of time. It’s not like the boys didn’t have phones themselves, but they weren’t as consumed in it as everyone else. After all, their lives weren’t normal like everyone else. Ash and Eiji weren’t able to be carefree like other people their age since they lived a dangerous lifestyle. 

“Let’s hurry and get inside. Shorter and Sing must be worried sick.” Eiji said with a slight frown as they reached the apartment building. 

Ash gave the anxious boy a calm nod, walking up the stairs. The city they resided in had a lot of streets, so Ash was exhausted by the number of streets he had to cross that day. Then, Ash gave a relaxed sigh as he stepped into the lavish building lobby. The area was extravagant and the walls were a creme color with intricate designs. The duo then walked to the elevator and got in. The intelligent machine then brought the boys up to the top floor, where they lived. The calming music caused Eiji to rest his eyes for a moment until the elevator beeped. Ash always found the development of technology fascinating and he often thought about how life would be if things didn’t evolve; he would have to walk up a bunch of stairs. Finally reaching their destination, Ash and Eiji exited the elevator and walked to the apartment door, unlocking it. Opening the door revealed two boys sitting on the couch competitively playing a video game. The controller in their hands and a focused look on both of their faces. They were too consumed in the game to even greet the duo that had entered the room. It was only natural for boys their age to spend pretty much every waking moment playing violent games. 

“They’re worried sick you said?” Ash eyed Eiji sarcastically. 

Eiji just sighed in response with a half smile on his face. Ash then walked into his room, ridding himself of his street clothes in return for an outfit that’s more comfortable. 

“Take that, loser!” bragged Sing in the room beyond his own. With a content sigh, Ash entered the living room once again, settling on the floor infront of the couch. His friends who surrounded him at that very moment were his safe haven, and he wouldn’t trade them for the world.

reincarnation or ‘in another life’ aus are my favourite but it is agonizing that the first lifetime wasn’t enough. The fact that the first lifetime, one lifetime just wasn’t enough and they need another entire lifetime to have a happy ending is tragic and cruel and it tears me apart.

how is an entire human lifetime, just not enough? why wasn’t theirs enough? it’s haunting to think of the unfulfilled promises and hopes and dreams that slip through their fingers - all that could have been, that they dreamed and wished would have been. just. never coming to fruition. abandoned. left to what ifs.
