Merciless - chapter 8
Tumblr media
Priya led the way towards the comms desk - a more secluded space that had only one human sitting sentinel and no other ears to eavesdrop. Spider nodded at the man who was sitting with his feet up on the desk, looking relaxed but assertive. He supposed it was this guy’s job to monitor the radios. “Hi.”
Priya led him over to the set up. “Do you know how to use the system?” she asked, gesturing to the tech.
“Er… I could probably figure it out.” Of that, he was sure, but it was probably faster to let Priya show him.
“Okay,” Priya grinned, in a way that let Spider know she’d help him anyway. She directed her next question to the techie. “What frequency we on?”
“62.1,” came the reply.
Spider’s heart lurched uncomfortably again when Priya adjusted the settings on the radio station. He wasn’t too familiar with the ins and outs of rebel communications on Pandora, other than knowing it was a constant battle to keep messages hidden from the RDA. He’d known Jake had tried to disseminate the technology to other clan leaders when the RDA returned, but he’d never really considered how it all worked. He’d never needed to contact anyone from outside of High Camp before now.

Recom Bri prefers to stay safely indoors — which generally is in air-tight settings with oxygenated air made suitable for human lungs. She constantly has to carry/wear a CO2 mask (or an AAS-RO2 ATMOS ADAPTATION SYSTEM) to “sip” carbon dioxide every minute or two to not die of slow asphyxiation.
In Bridgehead, there are living quarters for recoms sans the air filtration system thus relieving her need to employ a mask (such as to sleep). But in human Resistance hubs (unless they have special quarters for Avatars or Na'vi comrades), she constantly needs to sip CO2.
Sleeping creates another challenge. Curling up on a human-sized mat is one thing, but wearing a hard mask over the lower half of her face is another. Because she prefers (i.e. is more comfortable) inside than outside, around humans than Na'vi, needless to say, her sleep maintenance is poor, and occasional masking troubles (such as unknowingly dislodging the apparatus from her face or the canister running out) have found her waking up with severe headaches and continued drowsiness as she was slowly asphyxiating in her sleep (i.e. not getting enough CO2 in her bloodstream).

The moment Priya gave you the blood work on your avatar, you knew you were in deep shit with Alma.
Obviously, humans make mistakes all the time. These things happen. But you didn't have much of an excuse because you were in your avatar form when it happened, and normally, you hate it when people blame alcohol for their mistakes. In your mind, that's not an excuse. You would be a hypocrite if you did the same when Alma finds out your avatar is pregnant.
It was undeniably strange to be pregnant in one body and... empty in the other. After Priya gave you your results, you stayed out of the link bay for a week, too weirded out by the idea. That whole time you remained in your human body, you tried your best to figure out what to do and who to tell.
You should tell So'lek... right? After all, he played his part in this as well. A part of you felt guilty. He rarely smiles let alone 'lets loose', and the one time he decided to indulge in a few drinks and celebrate against the Sky People, you both end up outside of HQ toward the edge of the forest, fucking like rabbits in a frenzied heat which now led to this.
Not like you regret that night, despite everything. You've had one-night stands in the past (how else are humans going to pass the time on a moon that wants to kill them?) but that night with So'lek was easily the best. It wasn't hateful, but it was definitely rough and desperate. It felt like you were both so into it, not sure where one of you starts and the other ends, unable to keep each other's hands off of your bodies. You felt as though he was mapping every inch of your skin, but no matter how much he tasted you, it was never enough for him.
But by morning, he was gone, and you felt stupid to believe a drunken night would change anything. He was So'lek after all, the lone Na'vi, driven to avenge his butchered clan. He hated humans and had very little empathy for avatars, always saying the word 'dreamwalker' with distaste.  He treats you much like how he treats Alma or Priya. With indifference. You should've known a few drinks and a good fucking wouldn't change a lifetime of hate. Neither would a baby.
The word alone made you hold your breath, out of fear or excitement, you weren't sure. You never thought you'd be a mother, especially on Pandora where the odds weren't exactly in your favor. Up until this point, you had only referred to your situation as a 'pregnancy' and hadn't even used 'child' or 'baby'. Until now, as you finally came to terms with the uncertainty that lay ahead in your future.
One thing was certain: You couldn't tell So'lek.
If he didn't care for humans or humans that look like Na'vi, you knew it wasn't possible for him to care for a hybrid of the two. You've experienced firsthand what the Na'vi think of you and Alma's avatars... and you've seen firsthand what the Na'vi think of children from said avatars. You didn't want that for your child, even if it meant shielding them from their father.
You knew you needed to plan, but first, you needed some trusted help. Priya gave you your blood work results, but thankfully, she didn't read them because if she did, all of Resistance HQ would know about your pregnancy before you could even wrap your head around the idea of it.
Alma would likely lecture you on contraceptives like you were a child despite the fact you were closer to her age compared to the Sarentu students she taught, so for the time being, you would keep her in the dark. The Sarentu, however...
You have grown fond of the young group of Na'vi since they first joined the Resistance. Alma used to tell you stories about the children she taught back at TAP. Fun stories, embarrassing stories, all of which made you smile or laugh. When you first met the Sarentu after they were rescued, you immediately welcomed them with open arms into the Resistance, and they have grown quite attached to you... well, other than Nor. He looked at you the same way he looked at Alma, the same way So'lek looked at all dreamwalkers.
You decide to confide in Ri'nela and Teylan about your pregnancy and make them promise not to tell Nor, knowing he'd likely tell So'lek. Both were excited for you and willing to help in any way they could. The three of you come up with a system to prepare for the day your avatar would begin to show your pregnancy, but until then, you must plan for your new arrival.
~~~~~~~~~
The regret and disgust he felt after fucking a dreamwalker has kept him away from HQ more than usual-- and that's saying something.
It wasn't as though So'lek was disgusted by you, but mostly himself. He thought he was better than that, stronger than primal desires that come out during a moment of weakness and the influence of alcohol. He should've known that his life of solitude would eventually get the better of him because not even his hand would be able to quench that need to have a warm, wet pussy wrapped tightly around his cock. He saw a chance to have that again, if only for a moment, and the alcohol helped him gladly take that leap. Your own hand was enough to rile him up when you held onto the back of his neck for dear life as he had you pinned against a tree. Maybe you hadn't realized it in the moment of primal desire, but your fingers were absently tracing the base of his kuru and the memory of your touch was enough to make him light-headed.
It wasn't healthy for him to be living out in the wild alone if this is how he reacts to one simple touch, so desperate for that connection with anyone... including a dreamwalker. He was disgusted, but again, mostly with himself, feeling as though he took advantage of you and the moment, ready to do anything to have your tight pussy hugging him and keeping him warm and needy.
He always considered intimacy to be an activity only meant for two individuals who were either mates or people who had a deep connection with one another. He didn't have either of those things with you. At least... that's what he kept telling himself after that fateful night, the night he slipped away once your exhaustion took over and you couldn't keep your eyes open a second longer. He had been internally punishing himself every day since then.
You come from a species that murdered his entire clan. That thought alone made him feel guilt and shame in his gut for ravaging you, his usual need for revenge pushed back in his mind and replaced with the need to fuck your pretty pussy. The fact that you managed to distract him from his lifelong goal if only for a moment, angered him. The fact that a sky demon had this effect on him had him reeling down his tunnel of shame.
Then again, he knew you were not solely responsible for the death of his clan. He had to continuously remind himself that you were his ally and not someone like Mercer or Harding. You had an avatar like Alma, but in So'lek's opinion, you have done far more good than Cortez has. You actively prove yourself, time and time again. When the Sarentu returned, you immediately went out of your way to make sure the younger Na'vi felt comfortable and welcomed in their new home. So'lek had watched you during these moments, wondering if you had originally been there when his clan was butchered, would you have treated him the same? You're always kind and patient, especially against his scrutiny. He doesn't know why you thought he deserved your kindness, but maybe that's why he thought he could be vulnerable toward you.
If he deserved it back then, he definitely didn't deserve it now after immediately leaving you high and dry that fateful night like you were just a cum dump. You weren't, and even he thought you deserved better, dreamwalker or not. Despite how he felt what you did or didn't deserve, So'lek had been avoiding you like the plague. Little did he know you were doing the same.
Even when he did see you, which was rarer than ever, it was only when Alma forced the pair of you in close proximity, and you were always in your human body, never in your avatar. If your eyes ever met, you always ducked your head when he glanced at you or hid your face behind a breathing mask. So'lek could only imagine how you felt after that one night. He imagined you were as equally ashamed, judging by the fact you rarely looked him in the eyes, and also because you don't ever use your avatar body around him. He wasn't blind. He knows that was likely the reason. So'lek imagined that you probably didn't feel comfortable being a dreamwalker around him anymore, even more so than before when he used to verbally mention his distaste for them.
~~~~~~~~~
You're definitely showing.
Teylan had given you his old TAP shirt to wear (the logo covered with a badge Priya made for him stitched over it) but even then you felt like everyone was staring at your middle. Maybe it was just your paranoid pregnancy brain, but you were pretty sure you weren't imagining the way Alex's eyes drifted down to your stomach when you stood your avatar to full height before he quickly glanced away. After that, you wore your bulletproof vest over your middle.
It also didn't help that you've started to 'nest', which essentially just came down to you and Ri'nela practicing your newly earned weaving techniques to try and fashion a bunch of Na'vi child-sized items. Whatever she learns from the Aranahe, she brings back for the both of you to practice and learn the new skill, and while at first, it seemed hopeless, eventually you fashioned a cute, tiny loincloth that actually made you tear up at the sight of it in your large hands.
You know you'll eventually have to tell the rest of the Resistance, but you, Ri'nela, and Teylan have made plans that last at least until the end of your second trimester. Maybe if you slowly introduce everyone to the idea of a Na'vi baby being around, maybe the blow wouldn't be so hard when you eventually share the news. Or, and this may be the paranoia part of your brain, maybe you could just move your avatar far away from here, either to live alone or live with whatever tribe would accept you until the baby is born.
Either way, you're running out of time.
~~~~~~~~~
"Are you with child?"
Ri'nela looks up from her datapad, her confusion met with a stern, possibly overprotective So'lek as he stares the young Sarentu female down with a questioning gaze. Ri'nela's blood froze when she suspected why exactly he might be asking her, but she played it off to the best of her ability, "What? No?"
"Then what is this?" Her heart plummets when So'lek raises a small item in his hand. It was tinier than even his palm, a little beaded top meant for a Na'vi baby. So'lek's tone remained accusatory, interrogating one of the young adult Sarentu he feels responsible for, "I saw you weaving it earlier."
Her lie rolls easily off her tongue, "It is just practice. I make smaller versions of things that I want for myself. Once I get the technique down right, I'll make a bigger one that will fit me."
So'lek's eyes narrow further with suspicion, "Are you sure?"
"Yes."
"There's a scent on this one."
Again, Ri'nela's blood grows cold, but she uses nearly every muscle in her face to keep her expression neutral. Whatever expression she projects, So'lek doesn't read anything off of it as he continues, "It is faint but I recognize it. It is the scent of a pregnant Na'vi."
"It is not mine."
"Then whose..."
Ri'nela's tail is the thing that betrays her, flicking irritably from side to side behind her. It is also the thing that attracts Teylan to her side, the male Sarentu bounding over to Ri'nela and So'lek without care or notice of the tension between them. So'lek's eyes dance between the two younger Na'vi, still suspecting the small item in his hand. If it didn't belong to Ri'nela, then it must belong to another female Na'vi, but barely any come around the Resistance HQ and he highly doubted any of them would leave their future child's clothes behind. However, even if there weren't any female Na'vi around, there were still female dreamwalkers.
Alma was definitely not pregnant. So'lek had just seen her that morning and her scent was still the same as it had always been. As for the other female avatar, So'lek doesn't dare try to think about the last time he saw you--
... Ri'nela watches as realization dawns on So'lek's face, a brief moment of horror before it's quickly replaced with stern determination.
"Where is Y/n?"
"She's out." Ri'nela quickly answers.
However, she should've said something more when she noticed Teylan's ears and tail perk up with interest out of the corner of her eye, just as he spoke up, "Yes. She said she was going to the Kinglor Forest to collect samples!"
"Teylan," she hissed quietly, immediately regretting it when Teylan flinched and stared at her with almost comical wide eyes. She sighed and immediately apologized under her breath, her hand soothing his shoulder whilst she hesitantly stared up at So'lek.
His eyes continue to narrow down at her as if he was lecturing a child. He could easily tell that Ri'nela was trying to hide your whereabouts from him, and now he needed to see for himself as to why... though he was starting to piece the puzzle together in his head.
"She should not be traveling alone. I will go find her."
Before Ri'nela could even protest, So'lek whips around and leaves the base.
~~~~~~~~~
If you thought your first trimester was rough, you clearly weren't prepared for your second.
Your belly finally beginning to grow past your shirts and barely hidden in your loosened vests, you have begun to journey out of HQ on your own to not raise suspicion. During these times away, you've indulged yourself in hiding under your clothes less and today was no different, setting your vest and shirt down on a nearby rock while you wad into the shallow water of the river you found, wearing only your avatar-size bra and safari shorts. You bend down into the water to take a few vial-sized samples to bring back to the lab for Alex, but you've lately had to bend your body differently than normal with your rounded stomach now starting to get in the way of your usual activities. You straighten back up with a loud sigh, stretching your back and absently rubbing your belly before taking your hand away again to stopper the vial.
Had you been born and raised as Na'vi, you would've noticed you were being watched immediately, a thought that came to So'lek's mind as he discovered you on the river bank. He remained hidden for the time being, quietly observing as you cheerfully hum to yourself to pass the time during your research. His yellow eyes widen at the sight of you, visibly glowing while your changed scent wafts in his nose, answering all his previous questions. Now the sudden disappearance of your avatar from his presence finally made sense to him, eyes lowering down your body until they landed on your newest, most prominent feature.
You finally notice something wrong with your surroundings, your ears picking up something you didn't initially hear, and a different scent suddenly fills your nose. Looking around you happen to look over in his direction as you gasp out of terror, dropping your vials into the river, hands coming up to hold your heart before you realize who it was and you force your heartbeat to relax. For a moment, you're calm, before you finally remember why you feel so exposed as his eyes zeroed in on your belly, "Oh, shit, So'lek--"
"How long have you known?" He demands outright, stepping out into the open, just along the riverbank.
You pause, ears folding back against your skull as alarms go off in your head, unable to recall all the lies and excuses you had practically rehearsed in the mirror for weeks on end. You find yourself muttering the truth, "... I found out three weeks after... you know, after you and I--"
"That was MONTHS ago," he unexpectedly snarled, narrowed eyes flicking up to yours, "And when exactly were you going to tell me about this?"
The hostility toward you brings out your defensive side as your eyes squint at him, "I didn't think you'd want to know."
"In what world would I not want to know about something like this? Why would you keep something as serious as this from me?"
"Last I checked, you wanted nothing to do with me," you snarled back, recalling the morning she woke up and he wasn't there, "What else was I supposed to think?"
"You could have at least told me I was going to be a father from the beginning!"
"And how do you think I feel?!" You screeched, clenching your hands into tight fists as you gritted your teeth, "I'll have to give birth in a body I wasn't even born in! I'll have to raise a child that's technically not even the same species as me! And let's not forget that my baby daddy hates the very sight of me!"
He wasn't familiar with the human term 'baby daddy' but by the tone of your voice, it wasn't meant to be a good term. While you made very good points, his head was now less angry and more reeling over the fact that you were pregnant with his child. The shock was finally settling in and while a part of him says he should be... pleased, the other part of him felt estranged by the whole ordeal. Growing up, he had always been taught the joy of becoming a parent, but after losing the majority of his clan, he felt as though that future was already dead and gone. But now you stood before him, and so much conflict was welling up inside him. You weren't his mate, and one could argue you weren't even the same species as him, but one night of mistakes led to a child that So'lek wasn't sure would be welcomed in this world of Eywa.
While he sounded less angry when he next spoke, it didn't hide the disappointment in his voice, "That does not explain why you chose to keep a child of mine a secret from me--"
"--Because I knew this is exactly how you'd react!" You snap, "What would you do in my situation?"
He remained quiet because he wasn't foolish enough to try and lie to you. He honestly wouldn't know what to do if he was in your place. His silence was all the answer you needed, as you slowly started to relax your posture and give into an emotion that looked a lot like defeat,
"Listen, I get that you don't like me. I'm fairly certain you actually hate me, which is why I kept this from you. I didn't want my child growing up thinking their father hated their mother."
The words make his ears twitch but he otherwise didn't say a word, allowing you to continue. Your voice comes out distasteful, a tone that comes out every time you speak of your home planet, "Believe it or not, that's very common back home and I didn't want that for any child of mine... human OR Na'vi.
"And... and I know you've never met Jake Sully or his family, but I have. Before he left the Resistance to me and Alma, I got to know his kids. One of his sons and his adopted daughter were born with avatar traits. Brows, fingers... Lo'ak and Kiri were on my mind when I found out I was pregnant. I've seen firsthand how they're treated by other Na'vi. I've seen how Lo'ak treats himself, and... and I didn't want that for my child, especially if they end up looking like me. I didn't want them to grow up believing they were some sort of monster or demon."
Your look of defeat turns sour while pointedly glaring over at So'lek, "And YOUR presence wouldn't help that."
The silence is deafening, or more specifically his silence. You notice how the river and the forest around you felt alive with noise and beauty, yet So'lek stood among all of it like a ghost, silent as the grave. The only indication that he was still alive was the tail behind him, twitching to indicate he was contemplating.
Confliction was still at war in his head. This was still a child you were talking about. His child, and yet you felt the need to hide it from him. And yet, instead of anger, he felt guilt and shame because he knew you had every right to do so. It was his fault. He had made his distaste for your kind known, and many times it was even said to your face. You had every reason to believe he would care very little for a child made by both him and you. So'lek was ashamed of himself because you felt the need to shield your child from him, a child that wasn't even born yet. You made valid points that not even he could argue with. This child may be born with Na'vi in its veins, but vrrtep blood would also be added to the mix. So'lek would be lying to himself and his child if he went around hating all humans and avatars and yet loved a baby made by both him and a dreamwalker regardless.
The fact that he still wanted to love the child regardless came to mind, and he honestly surprised himself with this revelation. Perhaps that was why he was so angry before. Because you were hiding a child he could love. Despite everything, this was still So'lek's child and a deep and secret part of himself was glad that out of everyone he had ever known, you were the child's mother. If Eywa had to pick anyone to carry his child, So'lek was relieved she picked you because despite you're differences, he trusts you more than any human alive.
It was selfish of him to think after everything he's said and done, but a deep part of him wanted this child to be born looking like you, or, technically your avatar. He would be lying if he said he wasn't curious, and he looks at your eyebrows and extra fingers now with curiosity, not hatred. Because that's what it really comes down to. You think that So'lek would hate a child who has human traits, but that is far from the case. So'lek didn't care about what the Sky People and dreamwalkers looked like. He never has and never will.
He doesn't judge what people look like on the outside, but he judges them for whatever is held within. How could he hate an innocent child who would clearly grow up only knowing the best parts of both their father and mother? You were clearly a kindhearted tawtute. There is nothing but good inside you, and that was the only thing So'lek had cared about in others. It was easy for him to hate all Sky People because up until the Resistance, he thought all Sky People were terrible and cruel, the sole reason his clan was gone.
And now... his clan could be restored again. Probably not to the state it was before, but it was a hopeful and bright future for So'lek and his child. He thought he would die alone and with everything his clan had taught him, but now... he could pass on that knowledge and teach his child everything he knows. However, one quick look at your expression and he could tell that you would need a whole lot of convincing.
"You are right."
Your brows furrow with confusion, "Say that again?"
"Had you told me sooner, I likely would not have reacted well."
Your tone drops into sarcasm, "Oh, and this was you reacting well?"
"Worse," he corrected himself with a small roll of his eyes, "I would have reacted worse than I did now."
"Right."
He sighs heavily, "I do not think I can pretend and be comfortable about... everything that has happened between us, but I want to try."
"To try what?"
"To try whatever it is you want to do," the small look of confusion on your face only makes me further elaborate, "You have a choice, 'eylanay. And whatever choice you make, whether I agree with it or not... I will try and respect it."
You're still trying to wrap your head around the fact that So'lek has yet to pull you into a full-blown screaming match, so your reactions were admittedly slow, "What choice are you talking about exactly?"
"Whether or not you will allow me to be a part of the child's life."
He watches your eyes widen in shock, "You... want to be?"
"Yes, I do," the Na'vi male nods firmly and confidently, "I understand why you would be hesitant, but I promise that if you give me the chance, I will be a part of this child's life every step of the way. You see... to me, it does not matter what flows through one's veins. I have never, not once, judged your appearance because that is not what matters to me."
You pause and think back to all the time you've known So'lek, and he was right. He never talked badly about what humans looked like. He never even outright talks about you or Alma's appearance as avatars. The only thing he outright disapproved of was you trying to pretend to be something you're clearly not.
When you don't argue with his statement, So'lek continues, "Any child born from us will never be judged for their appearance or who they were born from, I swear it. The only thing that matters is their heart and soul, and I know, with you as their mother, this child will have a good and kind heart and soul, and will never know the deep hatred and greed of the people you were born to."
His words honestly drove you to stunned silence, unsure how to respond. You were speechless, opening and closing your mouth to form a reply, but you were too surprised to speak. You had so many questions, other things that the two of you would have to worry about down the road, like what does this mean for the two of you and if you were going to need some form of co-parenting dynamic. You decide not to bring this up right away, as you've been thrown for a loop once already today.
Slowly, you finally just decide to nod and see how this goes, awkwardly answering, "Okay."
His gaze was cautious, but even from where you stood, you could've sworn you saw a flash of hope in his eyes, his tail betraying him as it swayed behind him, "Is it?"
"Yeah," you start to grow nervous under his careful eye, looking around so you can find something to do, "Yeah, um... Let-- Let me just retrieve my vials and then we can head back to HQ to talk more."
You go to bend down to find the stoppered vials you had dropped into the shallow water of the river, but you don't get very far before So'lek steps into the river as well and crouches down before you, his hands already underneath the surface and leisurely searching for the vials in question. You stand back up to your full height and just watch, curious despite the warmth you feel growing up your neck.
The water makes the sound of a surfaced splash as So'lek's hands rise out of the water with the vials in hand, standing up to his own full height, which easily towered over your avatar's. You hadn't realized how close he had been until he was handing the vials to you, and immediately you look away and clear your throat.
"Thank you. So... how did you find out?"
He briefly frowned before comprehending what you were trying to ask and reached into his pouch. He lifts his hand and you recognize the beaded top Ri'nela promised to finish for you when you no longer had the time to do so.
He looks at the item with you, "I thought it was Ri'nela's."
A surprised snort of disbelief escapes you, the nerves now bleeding into amusement, "Ri'nela?? Seriously?"
His ears twitch irritably, but it doesn't intimidate you. Not this time. "Yes."
You smirk, "Believe me, big guy. If Ri'nela was pregnant, I would've killed the one responsible ages ago."
Unexpectedly, your chest floods with warmth as So'lek makes a deep, reverberating sound and it takes you a moment to realize it was a laugh. The laugh was short yet sweet, and when So'lek recovered, there was still a small but clearly visible smile.
He takes a brief moment to think before he holds out a hand, making it clear about his intent, "May I?"
You look at his hand then look back up at him, nodding before moving your arms to your sides so that So'lek has full reign of your belly, but he doesn't take advantage of it. If anything, he almost looks hesitant, internally stunned that you gave him permission. He slowly places his hand over your pregnant stomach, and you are quickly reminded of how large his hands are.
Neither of you say a word, just standing in the shallow part of the river, the water up to your ankles as you both stare down at So'lek's hand, placed gently over your round belly. You know So'lek must have felt something because his tail curled to alertness behind him, and his mouth slowly formed a brief, fond smile, which undoubtedly made your heart squeeze.
As you watch him technically interact with your unborn child for the first time, you start to feel incredibly grateful for how your situation turned out. You haven't known Eywa and her beauty for very long, so you're not sure if she deliberately picked So'lek for this to happen with you, but all the same, you were glad it was him out of everyone you know. You didn't know the sentiment was mutual.
"So'lek?"
"Hm?"
"Thank you."
~~~~~~~~~
MONTHS LATER...
One look at So'lek and you knew that twins weren't common among Na'vi. He had to have someone explain to him the amount of babies human females can bear, and his expression of horror honestly made you laugh more than anything, despite how exhausted and overwhelmed you were. While you didn't give birth in your human body, your avatar still contained remnants of human DNA, and back on Earth, your family had a history of twins, so in conclusion, you shouldn't have been all that surprised. Still, you didn't think that would transfer over to your false Na'vi body.
You didn't blame So'lek for being horrified. You were just as equally scared. You thought the two of you might be able to handle keeping one child safe during a war, but two? As you and So'lek looked at each other, you didn't have to say a word to know what the other was thinking. After all, it came with the territory of being mates. You tend to always know what is going on in each other's head.
You never thought So'lek might actually care for you more than just as the mother to his child, but over the last months throughout your pregnancy, he made it perfectly clear that he wouldn't have shown interest the night you two ended up fucking against a tree if he didn't already care for you. His feelings were complicated, yes, but due to a lifetime of death and revenge, no one could really blame him. He was honest with you one night when you finally asked him where you two stood in all of this and what it would mean to raise a child together.
He was honest when he said he wasn't going to mention it because he thought you regretted it. And in a way, he did regret your one-night stand, but for a completely different reason. He admitted that he thought you deserved someone better, someone, who didn't initially spit in your face when you both met because he thought you might be just like all the other Sky People. Pregnancy aside, he confessed how much he had grown to care for you, but he knew it all initially started way before you two had your night of fun during that one fateful celebration. He knew he cared for you even before that, he just couldn't admit it to himself before he got drunk and had his way with you.
Once boundaries were made and feelings were shared, So'lek brought you to a special place, the Tree of Souls. The two of you, no longer influenced by alcohol or conflicted emotions, bonded and mated before Eywa. You blamed your pregnancy for how emotionally intimate it felt for you, all your hormones going through the roof, and it only spurred So'lek on since he could feel it all through tsaheylu. Unlike your one-night stand, this was slow and passionate, and it likely would've gone all night long...
That is, until your water broke. But hey, things happen.
Despite all the confusion, doubt, and fear fighting in your mind about the war and how you'll have to protect your children, you took one look down at your twin sons and all those thoughts went away. You never thought you'd be a boy mom, let alone a boy mom to twins.
Once So'lek's initial shock wears off, he's immediately tending to you and your sons. Sons. He still can't wrap his head around it. This was far more than he thought he deserved, beyond his wildest dreams.
Weeks go by, and now all of Resistance HQ has grown accustomed to your new family dynamic, and many of your friends were over the moon about your boys. To play it safe, you didn't break your link with your avatar until the body fully recovered from labor and the babies no longer needed to be nursed, but you kept yourself entertained with your new family, unable to stop smiling at the sight of your husband and sons.
To give your new family some privacy, Ri'nela and Teylan took a private room in HQ and formed what they called a "nest corner", which came down to essentially just a bunch of pillows, blankets, soft, warm little lights hanging from the ceiling, and even two hammocks. The two snonivi in question apparently were woven by Nor, but you're not entirely sure, a little put off by the fact that he actually wanted to help.
As So'lek stood up from your little nest of blankets and pillows, one of your sons safely sleeping in his strong arms, you had the sudden urge to tug on your mate's tail.
So'lek whips around and points at you with a finger and a knowing glare, "Behave."
"Or what?" You grinned, your tail flirtaciously swaying behind you and you watched the way So'lek clearly noticed it.
He huffs lightly, shaking his head at your antics, playfully warning you, "Easy, yawntutsyìp."
You bite your lip to refrain from smiling uncontrollably, briefly looking down to check on your other son, also sleeping but in your lap as you sit cross-legged before you speak once more, a playful tone still etched in your voice, "You know... Anufi says that I have about one more week before she thinks I'm fully recovered from labor. So... I'm just saying... pretty sure I'll be going back to my usual mischief again soon."
He shakes his head once more, but he can't exactly hide the way his tail perks up with interest, "Your mischief is what got us two sons in the first place."
"Excuse me?" You scoffed, faking how appalled you felt while placing a hand over your heart as you glared up at him, "You came onto me, big guy!"
"Wrong. If I recall, I came inside you."
Your jaw drops, the room filled with silence other than the tiny, cute noises your sons made as they dreamed. You stared up at So'lek in shock, trying to replay his words in your head that left you baffled and speechless, rapidly blinking your eyes like it would somehow wake you from this dream. Did he actually just say that?
His grin is light and playful, making him look years younger, almost an entirely different man, "No one will ever believe you."
content : short fluff . can be gn!reader , human or avatar . secret crush on so’lek . slight tension if you squint . you and him have been working together for a few weeks now . not proof read
Tumblr media
you were helping priya with something on her computer, she needed a second pair of hands. Priya was going on and on about trying to connect all of the different resistance bases together so that they would operate on the same system?
Or.. something like that
You weren't entirely sure.... or entirely focused on what she was saying as you heard a certain deep voice coming from the other room
she could tell you weren't paying attention anymore, so she called for a mini break. you gave a small sympathy smile and slowly began to follow the sound of his voice. a voice you could recognize anywhere ... a voice that could improve your mood instantly, ten fold
his back was to you as you entered, he was talking into his ear piece. you pretended to busy yourself with something on the wall, hoping he wouldn't notice your eavesdropping. you were now able to make out what he was saying more clearly ...
sounds like he was talking with the envoy sarentu.. they seemed to always be on the go, rarely ever coming back to the HQ base
your heart swelled with how enthusiastic so'lek became whenever one of the sarentu needed help. he seemed to completely stop whatever he was doing to provide his full attention
and it only made you fall in love with him even more
the sarentu really looked up to him for strength and for guidance. you were so happy that so'lek was here to help with the transition. his presence here making all of the difference
at this point, you were just standing in front of the wall, smiling wide at the ground like an idiot, completely still ... trying not make any noise and miss anything that was being said
so'lek had just mentioned the envoy cannot take their ikran to the upper plains ... not yet anyway, and that they must continue on foot when they reach a cliff by the waterfall. so'leks voice turns comforting and reassuring, letting them know that they will be alright without their bonded for the time being
ugh, you need this man
your thoughts interrupted by a cold hand on your arm..
it's Priya ... with a strange look on her face
guess your break ...
and secret quality time is over then
Lest We Rest Upon Our Graves | C2
Tumblr media
The rest of the evening was not an improvement.
The words of So’lek lingered at the back of her mind beyond the migraine that had set up shop inside her skull. Nalin gave her something stronger than aspirin to take the edge off but it left her feeling…a little out of it as she returned to their sleeping area for…downtime away from everyone. It would be soon time for people to go to bed. Lest not risk running into Ri’nela and getting that promised ‘discussion’ from So’lek.
Alma took her place on the uncomfortable mattress of her bunk bed (the top half) only taking her boots and turquoise scarf off really for now before she’d chance into nightwear for the night; she just…needed her mind to wind down. Heal from the migraine and…let her rest.  The pillow was lumpy and the springs dug into her spine but it didn’t…really bother her as she stared up at the ceiling. There were worse things in life than an uncomfortable mattress and pillow; the pin-prickling sensation ticked at her ribs almost like a reminder of that.
She didn’t know….what to do now. What could she do for the Sarentu kids if they didn’t want her involvement? She had nothing here she could give…or do. Not without her avatar; at least with that she had more freedom to go out and do something. She couldn’t do much as a human in the vast world of Pandora.
Alma sighed deeply, rubbing her eyes with her fingers.
Things were so much easier before… but she couldn’t take it back. She couldn’t help Nor… or Teylan with them gone. With Ri’nela, she would be the easiest to try to talk to and Kìoetey was busy helping the resistance to stick around much; exploring the world and sharing that with Ri’nela. They were close now, unsurprisingly so any conversation with one would certainly be heard by the other. Privacy with them was not a luxury any more, even if So’lek’s threat wasn’t keeping her away.
God only knew where Teylan ended up. He had liked it inside more than out; being out in such a vast world must be overwhelming and… she had heard Nor try and get him out to explore a bit before the bombing. Perhaps Teylan was at an abandoned RDA facility? Familiar enough for him to find comfort, she was sure. But which one, she had no idea. Kìoetey had destroyed a lot in the past few months.
She couldn’t bring Nor back and…she didn’t want to be the one to do that; he would surely bury his blade into her again if she tried. What would happen if he did come back? Would he kill her? Would the Resistance want him around still? Or was the murder of her avatar enough for the Resistance to keep him at arm’s length; in fear of him doing that to a human being? It…was a loss for the Sarentu, now that it was pointed out; so few of them left now.
There had been nine children taken back then. Not all of them survived TAP which…was her biggest failure. Useless to preserve the children she had had a part in taking.
Aha’ri had died at Mercer’s hands. Okni had died of sickness a year after Aha’ri’s death. Yuayt had lost the trust of his Sarentu friends; he had sold their escape plan out to the guards. According to the Security feeds, he had killed himself by running and attacking his guards till they shot him. The guilt of Aha’ri’s death had weighed the eleven-year-old down more than expected. More than what she expected from him.
Telisi and Yefti had been the last to die. Her fault, really. Faulty cryopods. She knew their remains had been recovered from the broken pods and buried outside of Resistance HQ in the Kinglor Forest.
Four of the nine Sarentu lived, but not enough for a full clan. Perhaps time would see people would leave their native clan and join the Sarentu; take the mark and live through new traditions for the growth and development of a new Sarentu clan to walk Pandora’s surface. People came and left their clans for another cause. She had learned from Jake that the Olangi clan had been absorbed into the Omatikaya with the reduced numbers following the battle. It wasn’t unheard of for it to happen the other way around.
What could she do?
Alma mulled, not getting out of bed as people came to bed; her bunk bed shifting as someone clambered into it with a heavy sign. Anqa.
A small idea came to mind. Anqa. A pilot. Someone who could take her to places. That…was a start. TAP Con-1 had become a dump site after they had left; used to hide the mess in the toxic smog they left to cover their tracks in that area of the world. Alma had left…many things there to hide them from Mercer…or maybe herself as well. Kept away but…maybe she needed to bring them back. The Sarentu deserved that at the least.
It was the only thing she could do, she supposed.
-
Anqa wasn’t there when she first woke up, her head pounding and her neck feeling stiff but Alma pulled herself together despite almost falling out of the top bunk; her balance wavering for a moment until her head cleared enough to walk straight. Hopefully, her head would clear up once she had eaten.
Her eyes searched as she walked through the Resistance Hideout, her eyes lingering on Ri’nela as they passed but the girl either didn’t see her or simply ignored her which ached at her heart more; solidifying that she had to make that trip. It could be the starting block to rebuild some trust.
“…s Cortez still in charge now? It just…still so sad and confusing” Priya’s concerned voice echoed from the kitchen but somewhat hushed still.
Her heart sunk into her stomach, her morning appetite vanishing instantly and replaced with unease and a low level of nausea. If Priya was questionable her place here and her leadership… then that was telling a lot about the minds of everyone else. Lovely.
“I know but Jake left her in charge for a reason, She’s been here far longer than anyone else, even me” Anqa’s voice echoed in soft reply. “We can’t forget that.”
“It’s just…hard. Knowing and…hearing all the bad things about what Mercer did in that school...and that she could have had a part in it…I can’t… I don’t know this other Alma. She’s…small. I miss her big and blue, you know.”
Anqa said nothing but there was another exhale that echoed before a soft slurp of a drink.
Alma waited for a few moments, taking the second to compose herself—pretend even that she hadn’t heard—before she strolled into the kitchen casually, not sparing them much of a glance but Priya stiffened right up in the corner of her eye as she opened the fridge, going simply for a protein bottle before she glanced to them, well, Anqa mostly.
“Anqa, will you be flying anyone out today?” Alma was glad for the strength in her voice, as she found that bottle of pills from the previous evening and swallowed two down quickly to get rid of the headache that was still pounding.
Anqa blinked, sparing a look to Priya then shook her head. “Er, no. We’re sitting low for now still. Priya’s still monitoring a few places that look suspicious. There’s an area in the Zeswa’s land that’ got a lot more…activity than usual.”
Alma nodded thoughtfully. “Priya, can you excuse us?”
Priya nodded swiftly, patting Anqa’s shoulder with a quiet goodbye and left like she had a viperwolf following her. Anqa stared at her for a moment with a slight indent between her eyebrows but didn’t break the quiet as Alma took a seat at the table, slowly uncapping her drink for a long draft despite her internal complaints.
“I need a ride to a place that’s… more off the books than usual.” Alma started after a moment, letting her drink settle for a moment. “I need you.”
“No.”
“No?”
“Look, I respect you as a leader but…I’m not helping you do more secret shit. We’ve had enough of that lately and I can’t have that heat when it all hits the fan. I am the only pilot here.” Anqa said tightly. “I can’t have people question my place by helping you do more shitty things.”
Alma flinched a little at her words. “I need to go to TAP Con-1, Anqa. It’s not for a selfish or shitty reason.”
“Why?!” Anqa scoffed a little, setting her hot tea down and sat up straight, “that’s worse than having a secret trip out. There? It’s a toxic cesspit.”
“It’s where….” Alma paused, her voice quieted so it didn’t travel, “It’s where I put Aha’ri’s ashes after her death. TAP Con-1 became a dump site for TAP because it’s generally inaccessible.”
Anqa’s face turned into an annoyed scowl which was unfamiliar to witness. “Oh…come on…” she groaned. “You want…Damn.” She swore lightly, but she looked less defensive. “Why did you put her there?”
“Mercer was going to toss her ashes into the industrial bin. I…I found out about Aha’ri’s death in the morning after the fact. I...couldn’t stop them from burning her but I stole and swapped out her ashes with cigarette ashes. I couldn’t keep them, so I paid off a few people to make the trips and I hid them until I could find a good time to bury her. I never got around to it..” The selfish part of her again hadn’t wanted to make that trip; it involved taking the resistance there; exposing the truth she hadn’t wanted to share.
Anqa looked at her shrewdly, her eyes looking passed her for a moment then she begrudgingly nodded after a moment of mental debate. “Fine. I can take you there but I’m not lying to anyone who asks.”
“Alright.” Alma agreed, that was fair. “You’ll need to cover your skin in sunscreen to block dermal absorption and put a new filter into your exo-mask to breathe past the toxic elements. When we get back, hot showers and wash your clothes.”
“Stranded Decom procedures, got it,” Anqa said, a tad more dismissively.
Alma felt relief blossom in her gut which was enough to ignore the woman’s unusual attitude towards her. She had a chance to…get some closure for the kids. Kìoetey at the very least would get her final goodbye with her sister. She…didn’t want to go back there but she had to make this effort.
That had to count for something. She could do that: force herself to do this and show them she what she was willing to do for them. Ri’nela may not accept her promises but… she had to start somewhere.
“Thank you.”
-
Alma was sure So’lek had noticed her change of demeanour and was suspicious about it however she had barely paid him any heed beyond letting him know of her and Anqa’s absence and that either he or Priya was in charge until her return. She could see the questions in his eyes as she left but he didn’t question it as Ri’nela had appeared so Alma had taken her chance to bail.
She had packed an empty duffle, a few snacks and a tablet and met Anqa in the Samson. Alma gave the pilot the coordinates and they departed the Resistance Hide out relatively quickly. Smoother sailing as any.
“We have to make two detour routes to avid RDA air patrol around the balloons,” Anqa remarked, her eyes ahead to the cloudy, open skies. “We’ll be there in two hours and seventeen minutes with those routes in place.”
“Alright.” Alma agreed.
Silence relapsed between and Alma kept her gaze turned out the cockpit to the beautiful serene view of the Clouded forest with quiet reverence and…sadness that she’d never get to breathe such smells of the world in again. Only the lingering scents in the airlock or…what was brought back as samples.
Silence lingered between them for a while and Alma felt Anqa look at her a few times in that first hour but didn’t question it for the sake of not opening a conversation that neither of them wanted to have.
“Why’d you do it?”
Alma jumped, her knee cracking against the Samson dash. “Sh—“ She stopped herself from anything more, almost hitting a switch or two, the ebbs of pain vanishing quickly from her knee aside from a low throbbing.
“Careful!” Anqa hissed, making careful adjustments. “Sorry, didn’t mean to make you jump.” Though it didn’t sound too measured. “But, still. My question stands, Cortez. We knew each other from Hell’s Gate. Why did it take you 16 years to wait until Priya heard about TAP from intercepted chatter? Why didn’t you make an effort to see that those kids had survived than just your… assumption.”
“Mercer—“
“No. Don’t use him as an excuse.” Anqa shot down, “I want you to be real with me otherwise I don’t see why I should return you back! The Na’vi lost a whole Clan. The Sarentu lost their families because of what you and Mercer did. Why did you do it?”
Alma blinked at the woman in surprise at how… upfront Anqa was. She usually was more casual but this? This was cold and blunt. More so than earlier. She must have been stewing on these questions for a while. But, Alma knew she had to be careful with her answer, or lest be left behind. She knew Anqa made some passive threats before and often in jest but…she felt the difference in the woman’s attitude to feel the woman had an 80% of following through…for a little while. The woman might turn back for her if she did but… Alma wasn’t gonna brave those waters.
“I…didn’t believe the Na’vi were a…complicated and complex being when I first joined the RDA based on…a few of the Na’vi’s cultural differences. It was all I was exposed to. Mercer encouraged that belief many times so… We—or I—thought that we could…elevate and educate the Na’vi to the same level as humans that would… benefit each other.” Alma started carefully, very aware of how dry her mouth was with how tense Anqa’s grip on the stick was.
“You mean humanise them, using methods from a colonial mindset that had effectively washed away so many indigenous cultures in human history,” Anqa stated. “You must have known what Mercer was going to do when they refused?  No clan just hands over their young by the demands from outsiders.”
Alma remained quiet for a moment, “I didn’t think it would end in a massacre.” She admitted, “I…I wondered why Mercer brought so many soldiers. I thought…at worst, they’d simply kidnap them and leave the adults alive—I know that’s not any better in hindsight but…I didn’t think it’d end so bloody.”
“I think that’s the problem, Alma. You didn’t think. You were ambitious enough to excuse a lot of shit for the sake of that damn school. Kids still got hurt, one way or another.”
“I know I failed them. I couldn’t protect them as much as I should have. I stayed in the TAP program to make sure all of them weren’t at the total mercy of Mercer or Harding. I couldn’t stop everything that they did, but I tried to minimise the damage afterwards. It was one of the few ways I could protect them. If I…showed them too much favour, Mercer would have had my ass out of the Program very quickly for being too sympathetic and emotionally compromised.”
Anqa stared ahead of her for a moment, mulling on her words.
Alma took a steadying breath, her nails digging into her palms.
“Why did you leave them behind?” Anqa’s voice was softer this time. “Sixteen years is… a long time, Cortez. Assuming them dead is not enough of an excuse.”
“I couldn’t get them out when the facility fell and the RDA evacuated. The RDA almost shot me in my Avatar because they thought I was a Na’vi. I couldn’t sneak the kids past the soldiers and there were too many eyes and ears. The cryo pods there an already evacuated area so that was the safest area to put them. I thought I had a few days for the dust to settle before I woke them up without having to sneak them out but… Mercer had the facility bombed. You know the rest.”
“You never once wondered?”
“I did.” Alma winced as she said this, “but… I was too scared to check…or to hope.”
“Because you’d wind up straight in this exact situation.” Anqa gestured to Alma as she said this, her tone incredibly dry. “I…hate everything you said but… it’s the most honest you’ve actually been.”
“The worst you’ll do is leave me behind.” Alma shrugged, trying not to sound self-deprecating or anything. “You won’t flat-out stab me.”
Anqa hummed in agreement. “I’m not a killer.” There was a pause, “Just…to clear something up, you’d survive long-term exposure to the toxic mess if abandonment was…necessary?”
“I am not gonna answer that question.” Alma gave her a stern look.
Anqa sighed with a disappointed nod “Fine, fine….” A beat passed, “I’m sure we’d find out sooner or later.”
“Anqa!”
-
The…tension between them was better marginally by the time they descended into the green smog and on top of the TAP-Con 1 facility and Alma soon realised the pilot was not going to leave her side as she masked up and pulled her bag on.
“Kìoetey said the RDA appeared after she had turned the power on but as long as we’re not powering anything on again, then we’re all good. It’ll be slow going. I hope you know where you’re going ”
“There’s vents and glass doors. We can use the fire extinguishers as our weapons of choice.” Alma said, leading the way out although through the filter were was a slight…eggy undertone as she breathed. Enough was being filtered out so she didn’t feel concerned about it.
There was enough debris to clamber into the building. The signs of AMP suits and…destroyed ones were a haunting sight and more so on the corpse that hadn’t been retrieved inside of one; the man’s remains inside the suit looked to be… well into decomposition but further along than normal and… she was certain the smog’s effects were the cause.
Her stomach turned a little more but she swallowed her unease and pressed on.
It was like a maze without the convenience of power. Alma welded a rather strong extinguisher and it took both their efforts to get through a door or two until Alma found the vent system she was familiar with.
“This way.” She felt her heart beat faster as she got passed the last vent and out to her old office though she didn’t look too hard as she went to the back wall behind all the desks that were opposite the glass wall that showed-cased their lab. She had a few co-workers stationed here back in the day but, they were long gone now. Her table was still cluttered. Never sought to clean it up.
“This is your office?”
“Yes. I hated it, the vents are massive given the Air Conditioning was in higher demand. I was always cold.” Alma said, kneeling down and pulled a small screwdriver out and began to take out one of the panels' screws. It was fiddly work but she had less to deal with this time around it took a thump with the extinguisher to lodge the panel out of place and she let it drop to the carpeted, mossy floor.
Inside, it wasn’t as nice but inside lay the case she had stashed away. It was a simple pelican case, like most of their supplies boxes and was heavily secured.
Anqa helped her pull it out but Alma had them stop before she opened it up with a thumb scanner.
“Fancy.”
“SID could hack this easily. Everyone had shit to hide back in the day. Most of them had porn to stash so no one cared enough to question.” Alma shrugged.
“Good Porn?” Anqa asked, curiously. “I bet some people could do with some…films to enjoy.”
“There’s a….storage cabinet for the technicians down, second left. They have…hard drives of data.” Alma directed, not willing to really go further into that. She wasn’t here for that, but having lived in Tap Con-1 for seven years prior to the school with thin walls…. She knew uncomfortably enough of her colleagues. Unfortunately, it was mutual.
Anqa nodded, debating for a moment then dashed off. “I bet I could get a few favours with those…” she heard the pilot muttered.
The box latches were undone quickly and Alma took a solid second before she braced herself and opened it up.
Inside, it was…as she had left it.
The urns were… not even urns. She had stolen the ashes and hidden them in the Tea, Coffee and Sugar containers from the more personal kitchen; they got replaced quickly so no one gave a fuck. It was the best she had in the circumstances she was in. Aha’ri was in the Coffee pot, Onki was in the sugar pot and Yuayt was in the tea pot. Her hands shook as she retrieved them from the case, making sure none were at risk of opening up and slipped them straight into the duffle along with her other Data drives she had stashed away.
Alma couldn’t help but slip out of the office and into the lab. Her eyes lingered on the old…grow tank that was stationed inside still. Her avatar’s grow-tank. The sight of it made her heart clench but… there was a relief; the sight of it was… opened up a sight of possibilities. A future choice if…she could convince the right people for it. Now wasn’t the time but… did the little ones survive? Were they still here?
Alma spared a look to the office, her hands gripping the screwdriver more tightly but she followed the route to the other side where there was the secondary storage—or more adeptly, cryostorage.
Without power, it took some brute force and pushing to get the door to open.
It wasn’t cold but…nor was it warm. The cool air tickled free against her exposed neck which almost sent a shiver down her spine. She was sure it smelt bad, most of the inside was…overgrown with plant samples, and biosamples. But Alma sought easily the heavy case inside. It was the only one that had this security.
Cortez. A
Alma was gentle as she pulled it from the shelf but she felt…a butterfly sensation as she unsecured it and opened it up. The case was cold, still functional—good to know the case’s own power supply was still going. These battery cells were the good kind for a goddamn reason. Inside the cases were four slots, but only three were filled with the small canisters. She pulled one out carefully, swallowing thickly but the little… signs of life were still there through translucent skin and…tiny, underdeveloped little arms with tiny, little fingers.
Her spare avatars. Still alive after thirty-eight years of cryo.
It wasn’t well known to most of the Avatar program, but the creation process was the most complex part of the Avatar’s existence. Hundreds of avatar embryos were created at a time for each driver but…about 97% of the embryos didn’t survive past fifty cells which was why so many were made. On average, four embryos survived to development to a three-month gestational age and one was carried on to full development. The rest were cryo-tanked. Cheaper to do it that way and, if the avatar died in transit or there was a fault, they had backup avatars to restart without the hassle of the conception again. Hers had never moved from storage, it seemed. How inconvenient to leave fifteen billion dollars behind in a rush. Alma couldn’t…help herself but feel a shred of hope. She…could have an avatar again.
One day.
Just not yet. She could wait.
Not to mention, they’d have to come back for the grow tank for that and necessary supplements for growth.
Once nerves had cooled, and she was on the road to forgiveness, she could broach the topic with the science team, maybe try and talk to Patel or Spellman if her scientists weren’t able or...willing to help. They had Dr Augustine’s avatar floating about still.
Alma set the tube back in and secured it, carrying it out to get her other bag, just in time for Anqa to return with a stolen bag of goodies that…looked more than just simple porn.
“I found some computer parts and wires we can use with the rest of all these things. A few radios and some avatar sizes tech for the resistance. Also, a few masks as well. Figured since I was there, looting is an option.” Aqua said, quite happy with her horde. “Got everything?” Her eyes flickered down to the new case she had but didn’t look too concerned or question it just yet. Thankfully.
“Yes,” Alma said, patting the duffle mostly. “Let’s get back.”
This someone’s opinion on Alma and kinda explains her character in the game.
I play Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and complete the main story. I have mixed feelings about Alma but don’t get me started her excuses and not even bother to check on them if they were alive for 16 years straight?!
Bonus if the sarentu never know the truth about Alma play in how their clan destroyed, she will tell the truth after Mercer done for good or keep it as secret until she died type deal?
I am surprised that no one has reported to Jake or Norm about Alma’s crimes. Neytiri will 100% kill Alma in both bodies to vengeance the Sarentu clan, if she found out (the founder of the clan was from the Omanticaya clan). I wonder what will happened if Jake finds out about Sarentu children and her past actions in the game.
So I add the game to my Children of Souls au.
Humans at Resistance HQ adopt some moths with permission from Jake. After RDA come back, moths stayed at HQ for safety.
Moths act distant to Alma because they feel something wrong about her like unknown virus.
When Sarentu clan come to the HQ, The Moths became curious about the newcomers.
So’lek explained the Sarentu and other about moth origins. Moths help show the tarsyu flower to them.
Aranahe clan are strict protectively of the moths from sky people and resistance HQ after Asahe’s death. Ka’nat and Asahe adopted the youngest of the aranahe moths. The little Moth always stay close to their father since their mom passed.
The aranahe moths have connections to kinglor. They feel pain and suffering from the kinglors.
When the Sarentu gain their ikran, some moths ride on mantas to celebrate the new bond.
Zeswa clan are proud parents of the moths. Zeswa moths sometimes dance-fight to copy their parents and of course spoiled by their grandparents. The Zakru don’t mind about them.
Harding sold parts of animals that created 7 years ago for black market in earth.
After P’asuk death, Moths give flowers and berries in say goodbye to him.
The RDA was given a task to capture random moths by Mercer to recreate TAP program once more. He must convince General Ardmore to recreate TAP to make soldiers out of the moths due to their unique abilities and use it to their advantage against the Na’vi.
But Harding disagreed with that due to the Sarentu are now a big problem like Jake Sully because they were teaches human things thank to TAP and used this skills to destroy RDA.
The Sarentu was furious and disturbed when find this audio. The resistance HQ and clans become protective of their adopted children after hearing that information.
When the party was attacked by RDA, some moths get injured and luckily they are not get captured. Others moths become more wary of Alma in the new HQ.
Sonic forces but it's a mmorpg where players have to cooraperate to unlock more of the world Hub world is the resistance hq there are levels you play where you fight badniks also you get to do tasks for the characters The amount of badniks and tasks every player does for the characters unlocks more areas cities and towns to explore and add to the hub world basically showing how the resistance is taking back the world more customization options and more species for avatar and bring the chao gardens back and if there has to be something you gotta pay for (in a perfect world this wouldn't be a thing but alas) it's extra costumes and maybe a couple of special weapons but nothing that locks you out of advancing in the game also you can team up with other people in levels and even characters during their tasks
A Casual Sonic Forces Rewrite
Part 7 - We'll Meet Again
Just a warning: none of the images used here belong to me!
Just another warning: swearing. I swear a bit.
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5 | Part 6
Don’t know where! Don’t know when! Oh I know we’ll meet again some sunny day!
Nothing like a song about hope for the future during war time. Could things finally be looking up?
Tumblr media
Alright, this is going to be a long one, get ready.
Most of what we saw during the last part was me geeking out done in preparation for this one. Now that Classic Sonic and Tails are about to discover more about the enemy and Sonic and Silver just had an epic fight, why don’t we check back on the Custom Hero?
Once we’re back from our battle against Perfect Chaos, we meet fellow Resistance members in the HQ. We’re greeted with a new cutscene.
An alarm goes off.
‘Oh, what now?’ Charmy complains.
‘We’re receiving a distress signal from the city.’ Espio explains.
A random NPC voice comes through the communicator saying, ‘This is the 8th Unit! Eggman’s forces have broken through! We’re currently pinned down under heavy enemy fire! We need-’
They’re interrupted by the sounds of a struggle.
‘This is bad...’ Amy sounds alarmed. ‘We need an emergency evacuation team!’
‘But who can we send?’ Knuckles questions. ‘Blaze has the 5th and 6th Units engaged at Seaside Hill, we barely have anyone left to spare!’
‘We can join the fight if that’ll help,’ Vector offers. Espio nods at that.
‘Weren’t we supposed to be looking for the Chaos Emeralds?’ Charmy asks, mildly annoyed. ‘Will we ever get back to that? Or will it just be battle after battle after battle after-’
‘Still, I don’t think just the five of us will be enough.’ Amy interrupts the bee. ‘We’re quickly losing territory from Park Avenue all the way to Sunset Heights!’
‘Don’t worry, guys, I got this,’ Sonic says, already getting up from the chair where he was sitting next to Silver. Amy quickly gets in his way, however, hammer raised.
‘Oh no you don’t! You and Silver need time to recover. You’re staying right here!’
Sonic exchanges a look with the psychic hedgehog, who only shakes his head in compliance. The blue blur crosses his arms, seemingly not done with the conversation.
‘We can’t have any more casualties...’ Knuckles thinks for a moment. ‘Looks like we’ve got no choice. Okay, rookie, I’ve got a tough one for you. I need you to take a partner with you and head back to the city. Your mission is to evacuate the civilians at all costs, got it?’
‘Are you sure we should send the rookie out there? At a time like this?’ The pink hedgehog asks, unsure.
‘It’s what we’ve got for today. Besides, the kid’s got some spunk, they can handle themselves!’
The echidna gives your character a thumbs up. The avatar looks between Knuckles and Amy, then raises their wispon and nods.
End of scene.
It’s a tag team level! Time for Park Avenue. Watch your step!
Tumblr media
The biggest gripe I have with this level is that throughout the entire thing, characters butt in to tell you how great you’re doing and how astounding you are and how they’re proud of this big thing you did. Yet there is not a single moment in the entire stage where we do shit. We do nothing at all other than run around the entire time. What are they cheering? Was I supposed to be doing something?
So yeah, I’m partially going to scrap the background dialogue to avoid all the repetition and partially going to give us something to do.
Amy initiates the level with ‘We need a status update on the people who are still in the city. Rookie, you take the west side. Be careful!’
This isn’t just “run to the end of the level”. You cannot progress in the stage if you don’t accomplish your mission first. You must get rid of obstacles — fallen buildings, piles of rubble, explosions, etc. — and defeat robots, clearing way as you run, and at certain points you’ll need to save civilians from enemy fire.
You might even see yourself going against one of the giant robots we see in the background. I got the impression that that was the initial intent anyway, because Knuckles says we can’t just ignore the robots, yet we do...
So now, there will be a point towards the end of the level where you defeat enemies in an underground area. Whoever is your partner says something along the lines of “we’ve secured an escape route. The way is safe for evacuation.”
‘Alright! Let’s keep this momentum going, everybody!’ Amy responds.
But as she says that, the ground starts shaking. You see a giant robot approaching.
‘These Death Egg robots are everywhere!’ Knuckles exclaims.
‘Uh oh. This ain’t good. It’s too much for the rookie!’ Says Charmy.
‘Don’t worry. You got this, right, rookie?’
It is then that you and your partner enter a mini-boss fight against the Death Egg robot. You must beat up the enemy while civilians run past you in the background. That will make your teammate impressed and warrant the compliments you receive later!
Shortly after said compliments, Espio comes in: ‘We’ve got the enemy on the run and all civilians to safety. Well done, everybody!’
And you finally reach the end. Within the rewards you receive by the end of it, you’ll see “Amy will now fight with you”. I’ll explain that soon.
I dearly wish they had done something more with Park Avenue. The City levels are already so similar to each other, it would’ve been good if we at least got a bit more of adrenaline going. Especially since this level is supposed to be proving the avatar’s prowess.
Now that we’ve stroked our ego a little bit, let’s get back to Tails and Classic for a quick dialogue. Tails starts by picking up our last subject:
‘I found some records of Mystic Jungle. Apparently there was some obscure casino area in... well, the jungle. Eggman built it on top of ancient ruins, and it’s since become one of his secret bases. But now that he’s shut it down, I bet he won’t be expecting us of all people to go there!’
Classic gestures.
‘Oh. You’re right, Shadow did see us earlier... I don’t think we have anything to worry about, though. We just need to keep an eye out.’
He gestures again.
‘Don’t worry, Sonic. Once we take a look at Eggman’s database, we’ll be able to understand what exactly that gem does. And I’m pretty sure we’ll find a way to take you home with it as well. If it brought you here, it can take you back, right?’
Tumblr media
I like to think that while Sonic’s Mystic Jungle was more focused on the forest aspects, Classic’s should have a heavier focus on the casino part. So I want us to actually go inside the casinos! Card motifs, roulette wheels, neon lights, bridges crossing the jungle, give us all of the good stuff!
The dialogue of this level would be drastically changed, as Tails and Classic don’t know about Sonic’s survival in this version. So instead of looking for him in Mystic Jungle, they’re here to gather information.
‘Let’s try and be stealthy about this, alright?’
Of course, a Sonic player can only be so stealthy when we’re speeding through the level. But it’s the thought that counts. And Tails’ thought can be heard on his next line around the end of the level:
‘Eggman’s lab is right up ahead. Don’t worry, Sonic. I won’t let him take you again.’
This being in reference not only to Classic having been captured by Eggman before, but mostly to modern Sonic, who Tails feels he’s failed by letting Eggman take him away. But he’ll not let it happen again.
I also reckon that Tails would have some witty remarks about the casinos in the middle of the stage, but I’ll leave those lines to your imagination.
Once we’re done with that, a new cutscene begins.
We get a wide look at a big computer room. We then focus on the door, where we see Tails and Classic Sonic peeking inside. Once they confirm they’re safe, they come in. Tails goes straight for the computers, while Classic takes a look around.
‘Ok, Sonic, hang on a second while I access the data.’
The hedgehog looks at the big empty glass tubes on the wall labelled “PR - prototype 11-17”, “PR - prototype 11 - 18”, “PR - prototype 11 - 19” and so on.
‘Found it! The Phantom Ruby Project.’ Tails scrutinises the screen for a few moments. ‘There seem to be some logs on his experiments.’
He begins reading out loud:
“Despite my advancements in replicating the Phantom Ruby’s powers, most recent prototypes could only respond to the DNA of the person who activates it, which only the most strong-willed individuals seem to be able to. With the right vessel, the Phantom Ruby could become the most formidable weapon. It can mix and match elements from other dimensions to create an entirely new reality under the wielder’s control.”
Connected to the tubes is a machine. Taking a closer look at its panel, Classic sees something underneath a glass barrier.
“Experiments held with the younger version of Sonic show that this reality will only affect the person targeted by the wielder, but I theorise that, with the right adjustments, the ruby’s power can be amplified to affect thousands of people at a time.” Tails pauses. ‘So Eggman has been making you his training dummy for this project ever since the Phantom Ruby brought you here... that’s messed up.’
He receives no response, but the sound of glass breaking makes him looks back at Classic to see him holding up a...
‘Is that a Chaos Emerald?!’
The hedgehog smiles and nods.
‘Alright.’ The fox pulls out his scanner and looks at the screen with determination. He connects the device to the computer and starts typing. ‘We’ve got to get all of this information and the Chaos Emerald to the Resistance as fast as possible. We need a plan.’
Before he’s done, however, we hear loud noises from outside. Tails and Classic exchange a look, and the scene ends.
Tumblr media
Alright alright alright, I think here’s the proper time for an Intermission!
The dialogue before Park Avenue was a little longer than the usual, but I just wanted to get the feel of these characters interacting and show how few people there are in the HQ right now. Besides, the Chaotix need something to do, so to the City they go.
Also also, I got Charmy to remind us about the Chaos Emeralds. The poor bee always has to be the one to bring up annoying subjects, huh? But it’s for a good cause.
And of course, Sonic, despite being hurt and tired, really wants to join the fight. What else is he going to do, sit down here? Well, pretty much, or else Amy will tie him to the chair-
I already said most of what I wanted to say about Park Avenue, but I’ll add that having NPCs running in the background and a larger sense of destruction would really help with the immersion of the level. We need to create a sense of urgency, as the civilians need to be evacuated ASAP or else they’re all going to die. The way things are structured, you barely see the supposed chaos going on, as it all just blurs into the honestly very clean background.
Tumblr media
(Found this screenshot in the Sonic Retro website)
I also gave Vector’s line during the level to Charmy because, in our timeline so far, Vector has already seen what the rookie is capable of, so, much like Knuckles, he’s sure they can handle themselves.
Just before this level, Amy seemed hesitant to send you out with the evacuation team. But seeing the amazing features you performed on the field today, she has decided to trust you. From this point on, you can select Amy to accompany you on tag team missions. As the other second-in-command, I thought it was only fair that we conquered her canonical approval.
Now about Tails and Classic Sonic. What I imagine Classic is trying to convey here is that they’re dealing with something more powerful than they realise. The hedgehog knows the Phantom Ruby is capable of very dangerous things, not only because of his experience with it in Mania, but also, as we see later, because he has been dealing with its powers ever since he got captured by Eggman. Perhaps not as terribly as his modern counterpart or Shadow, but being a guinea pig has definitely taught Classic to keep an eye out for this thing’s powers.
Tails, on the other hand, believes they’re on their way to a breakthrough, and there should be no slowing down. And indeed, what they find later is exactly what they’ve been looking for. I thought that giving Tails this information before he joins the Resistance again would make his individual role in the story seem more important, as he was the one who made the executive decision to look for it and bring it to his allies even after they were separated. Besides, this discovery will bounce off pretty well with the story beat I’ll give you after this intermission.
I tried once again to make Classic Sonic’s presence in the story have more importance. Not only did he bring the Phantom Ruby with him to this dimension, but he was also its first victim in this world. Who else would Infinite test the Phantom Ruby prototypes on, after all? Certainly not on Eggman.
Besides, he found a Chaos Emerald Eggman had been using to power his prototypes, — which, as you can see, are no longer there, as Infinite took them in the previous part — so at least he’s making himself useful.
Tumblr media
Now let’s address the elephant in the room: the Phantom Ruby. Although I really liked the idea of it being able to mess with people’s minds, it was a very inconsistent power. If it just affects what people see and feel, then how did the buildings actually get destroyed? How did people get physically affected and even launched across the scenery (looking at you, Sonic) if it’s all just in their head? Did their brain make them throw themselves around? And most importantly, how did it bring Classic Sonic — and in our case, Blaze — here from another dimension? What does that have to do with the mind-altering powers of the ruby?
By making the Phantom Ruby an actual reality-warping object, we can fit all of these elements in. But it can still be called phantom, because to anyone who isn’t targeted by it, all of these things brought from other realities don’t actually exist — they are but mere phantoms of another dimension. That’s why Sonic’s and Shadow’s virtual realities couldn’t be reached by anyone else, and that’s why having a Phantom Ruby prototype changes how it affects the rookie.
Alright, let’s get back to the custom hero for a moment.
Within a new dialogue, Amy speaks with the avatar:
‘I’m sorry I doubted you, rookie. You did pretty well out there, and we’re receiving lots of new recruits because of what you did. So I just wanted to let you know that, if you need anything, don’t hesitate to ask!’
The avatar smiles, and they look like they’re about to say something.
‘Am I interrupting something?’ Rouge comes in, indeed interrupting.
‘Rouge! It’s so good to see you. Have you got that report?’
‘My, it’s always business with you. I’m working two jobs, you know? But at least you guys seem to be doing more damage to the doctor than G.U.N.’
‘Well?’
‘Eggman seems to have shut down his Mystic Jungle base in order to protect some of his research. The jungle is clear now, though. Both Infinite and Chaos are gone, but I wasn’t able to hack into the security system, so the defenses around the lab are still up. I also got two life signals running through the casino area.’
‘What should we do, Blaze?’ Amy questions.
Blaze thinks for a moment and responds, ‘Did they seem like an obstacle?’
‘Well,’ Rouge says. ‘They were fighting Eggman’s robots, so if anything, they’re not on his side.’
‘We move forward with the plan, then. We’ll take over Mystic Jungle and use its assets to our advantage.’
The custom hero perks up at that.
‘Maybe you should go too, rookie,’ Amy suggests. ‘You seem eager to be out in the field.’
The custom hero nods, eager indeed, and the dialogue is over.
We’re on a roll tonight! Bring me another level! Aqua Road it is!
Tumblr media
(Screenshot found in the Sonic wiki. Unfortunately, there’s no specific concept art for Aqua Road)
I may seem overly critical at this point, but this level is so... short. It feels like nothing happens and it’s already over...
Well, since we already had stages to focus on the forest and on the casino, I’d like this one to show us a bit more of the temple parts. Maybe in order to be stealthy and avoid catching the attention of the jungle creatures like what happened to Sonic, we take an underground route for part of the level. There, we can see old corridors of the temple covered in bright lights. Every time we come out of these tunnels we find ourselves sliding above the jungle on some sort of aqueduct structure, with more split paths and obstacles in your way.
Regarding the background dialogue, the characters wouldn’t say this is a hard place to find, because of course, we’ve already been here before as Sonic. Instead, they could comment on how strange it is that Eggman would build a lab in a place so flashy and carnivalesque; maybe he thought he’d go by unnoticed in the middle of all these casinos and attractions.
Approaching the end of the level, Blaze would come in to say, ‘we’re really close now. Team A will meet up with you at the front entrance, rookie, keep an eye out.’
Aaaand it’s over! The next cutscene should be almost the same:
The avatar sees the Phantom Ruby prototype on the floor and picks it up. It shines bright in their hands, and the world around them glitches for a second before going back to normal. They seem really confused, but their thoughts are interrupted when the door to the lab opens behind them.
They turn around with their wispon pointed at the threat, only to find Tails and Classic Sonic getting ready to fight. The two parties look at each other for a moment before lowering their guards, and Tails asks if they’ve met before.
End scene.
Onto the last bits of this part, because no, we’re still not over!
We’re back to HQ with a dialogue:
‘Amy? Amy, come in!’ Espio calls through a communicator.
‘Espio, what’s going on?’ Amy responds.
‘We’re suffering a counter-attack in the City!’
‘Shadow’s here! We need some back up!’ Vector adds.
‘Oh, I’ll show him what for! I thought he was cool!’ Charmy shouts in the background.
‘Charmy, get back here!’ Vector calls, then hangs up.
‘Oh, this is bad! Knuckles and Rouge just left, and Blaze still isn’t back from Mystic Jungle!’ Amy cries. ‘The base is full of new recruits, I can’t just leave them!’
‘Finally some fun for me!’ Sonic comes in.
‘W-well...’ the pink hedgehog sounds flustered for a second before making up her mind. ‘I think I might just be able to lend a hand. Silver! You take care of the recruits!’
‘I’ll... keep an eye on them, I guess?’ Silver responds.
We end the dialogue and head for another Sonic level. Back to the city to help the Chaotix!
Now this level. This level is bloody hilarious. The characters panicking about an army of death egg robots when on our end there’s simply none to be seen, I love it. But of course, we’ll have to get rid of this background dialogue for that very same reason. Anything but the characters talking about something we can’t even see.
Instead of reaching an abrupt ending by meeting the enemy in the middle of the city, Sonic would reach a point of the level where we see a cinematic shot of fake Shadow running alongside him.
‘So, guys? I think I found Shadow. He doesn’t look like he’s up for a talk though.’
We would then get to the goal ring (or symbol, I guess?) in some big empty area, with Shadow skidding to a stop right in front of us.
‘Alright, I guess we’ll make him talk.’
Both hedgehogs face each other as the stage comes to a close and we get our result screen.
Much like I expected from the original game, boss battle time! Sonic versus Shadow, a classic (no Classic Sonic included)!
Tumblr media
I like to imagine this as being similar to their first battle in the franchise, where they keep trying to hit each other. Of course, fake Shadow has some sort of attack pattern you have to figure out as you go along, while Sonic has his witty banter going on.
Once you’ve defeated the fake hedgehog, a new cutscene will begin. Sonic and Shadow look at each other, both visibly tired. The blue blur starts talking in a tone that’s more impatient than his regular swag:
‘What’s going on, Shadow? What could Eggman possibly be offering you to do this? Do you have any idea what everyone’s been through?’
He’s met with silence.
‘Are you even listening to me?’
Both parties prepare to attack each other again, but just as fake Shadow is about to punch Sonic in the face, a new contender appears to kick him out of the battle to the sound of All Hail Shadow. Sonic is stunned.
‘Another Shadow?!’
‘Wouldn’t be the first time,’ the real Shadow comments grimly. He stares at his doppelganger, who is glitching out.
‘I... what?’
‘That was a fake.’ Rouge comes flying into the scene. She hovers next to her teammate, who doesn’t seem fazed.
‘Huh... guess I can’t call you a faker anymore,’ Sonic smiles, somewhat relieved, if still confused.
‘Let’s get back to the headquarters. There’s a lot to report.’
The cutscene comes to an end, and we transition to the next one:
Tumblr media
The doors to the control room open, and Sonic, Shadow and Rouge come in. Sonic halts when he sees who’s in the room, however. A two-tailed fox is in front of the main computer showing some archives and explaining something to the other Resistance members, who listen eagerly; the avatar and Classic Sonic are by his side.
‘... Tails?’
‘Sonic?’ Tails’ ears perk, and he takes a second to look behind him, almost afraid to do so. When he does, he’s overjoyed and runs towards his brother. ‘SONIC!’
‘TAILS!’
The two of them hug tightly. These are two brothers who haven’t seen each other in six months, I want emotion.
‘When the rookie said you were alive, I couldn’t believe it, I though- I was so afraid you were- Sonic, I’m so sorry-’ Tails can’t seem to find the words.
‘Hey, I’m alright. I’m just happy you’re alright too... what example would we be giving the younger generations, right?’ The hedgehog jests, greeting his younger self, who waves at him.
Shadow stares at the avatar pensively, which intimidates them.
‘Shadow!’ Tails takes a step back once he sees the other hedgehog.
‘Hey, he’s alright. He’s cool.’ Sonic calms him down.
‘The Shadow you’ve seen for the past six months was a copy created by Infinite,’ says the real Shadow. He exchanges a look with Rouge. ‘All of the enemies you’ve been fighting were, it seems.’
‘That... makes sense, actually.’ Tails goes back to the computer screen. ‘It definitely matches what we’ve discovered about the Phantom Ruby.’
The black hedgehog approaches the screen as well. ‘Though they’re mere replicas, their powers are just as formidable as the original.’
‘Apparently Infinite can create an unlimited number of them and bend them to his will,’ Rouge explains.
‘That would explain Chaos...’ says Amy, thoughtful.
‘And where were you for the past six months?’ Blaze asks, suspicious.
‘Trapped.’ Shadow’s tone is bleak. ‘The Phantom Ruby’s powers are stronger than you imagine. It can create an entire inescapable virtual reality.’
‘Virtual reality...’ Sonic looks down, realisation dawning on him.
‘So what? Does that mean Eggman can just keep cranking up his numbers whenever he wants, no matter how hard we fight?’ Silver, the realist, asks.
‘Exactly. As it stands, there’s no way we can win this.’
‘Of course we can win this! We always do!’ Sonic says, gathering back his swag for the sake of the group. ‘We just have to figure out how.’
‘Eggman says he has a plan to destroy us in three days,’ Tails comments. He is determined. ‘So we better start thinking now!’
The rest of the Resistance members agree, the morale slightly raised, and the scene ends.
Tumblr media
(Except it’s not a party)
Onto our last Intervention of the day:
Rouge once again gets a casual inclusion. Mentioning G.U.N at least lets us know they’re trying to do something, even if it’s not relevant enough to specify. Because I do believe G.U.N still exists in this universe, otherwise who the heck does Team Dark work for-
As you can see, Tails and Classic are no longer the sole reason why the rookie is sent to Mystic Jungle, because that’s just weird and very convenient. Nay, this time we’re taking over one of Eggman’s bases for good. Seems like his plan to shut down Mystic Jungle to keep the Resistance away from it backfired, huh?
Regarding that cutscene, I’d just like to remind you of something we saw all the way back in part 1: the avatar activating the Phantom Ruby prototype is what brought Shadow back from his virtual reality. The jungle glitching out would be a sign of that, and the following events would happen at the same time as the ending of Episode Shadow.
We can see the City was left to the care of the Chaotix, but we can’t turn our back for five minutes and Eggman’s already trying to take it back. And though our detectives are determined, they could use some help in fighting the Ultimate Life Form.
I thought I’d squeeze in just a tiny bit of Amy’s affection for Sonic here, just so we know that it still exists. Silver pays for it because he’s the only other canon member left in the headquarters. Where did Knuckles go? I’ll tell you soon.
I like to think Sonic would try to argue with Shadow about this whole situation, even if just a little bit. Shadow has been against them before, but this time it doesn’t make any sense at all; look at everything that’s happening! Surely Shadow could at least explain himself?
And explain himself he did. The real Shadow, that is. He reminds us of the Shadow Androids there for a moment before the real talk starts. And once again, it would make sense for him to know all this information, because as we’ve seen in episode Shadow, he’s spent a good while dealing with the Phantom Ruby’s powers.
I honestly think the rest of the scene is pretty self-explanatory. In its core, I didn’t change much.
Alright, we’ve got a ton of story going this time! I wanted to get the plot to a certain point before university was back, so you guys get a mega part 7 to fulfil all your Sonic Forces needs... if you have them, that is. Why are you here? Do you enjoy what I write? I’d hope so, I enjoy writing it.
Until part 8, my guys, gals and non-binary pals!
(Happy Pride Month, by the way!)
Sometimes I wonder what if the writers scrapped what Sonic Forces is right now, said fuck Classic Sonic and Deadly Six, and made the story go towards a whole new direction without changing the theme of the game
What if instead of just Sonic, Tails and Avatar/Gadget were also the duo of the game? Infinite picks up the mask and takes the Phantom Ruby for vengeance against Shadow for his lost team who were also technically family, instead of inferiority complex label lazily slapped onto him, and Avatar meet Tails five seconds in for the fox to save their ass in the Tornado from Infinite with a powerful wispon that Tails trusts to Avatar which becomes their main weapon in the game. The Tornado is later harmed though, Tails staying back to quickly fix it up whilst trusting Avatar with the wispon to being back to the HQ with amazing news.
Tails worked in secret to make an even more powerful weapons that incorporates wisps in them- introducing more game mechanics. Knuckles couldn't tell the others because someone might've attacked Tails and used their own weapon against them- something they definitely do not want to happen.
Throughout the journey there are multiple roadblocks- a small fight against Badniks, a quick detour to save a wisp that joins you, the challenge of avoiding the Illusion Cubes and fighting the lookalikes of the people from the Resistance- more often Shadow. Tails is there to help, pulling up with the Tornado mid-journey after repairing it
It becomes what the writers wanted to achieve- more character being fleshed out, more interaction between characters- not from the perspective of a blue blur loved by all, but from just a someone dragged into this mess of a war for no reason, and absolutely no Classic Sonic or Deadly Six.
(Fuck Classic Sonic and Deadly Six. All my bros hate Classic Sonic and Deadly Six.)
(Also speaking of them- since there's no dimensional fuckery there's a reason for the writers to not put Blaze into the game.)
Sonic has his quills cut, short and jagged- he can no longer spindash. He still keeps his speed, but still helpless in terms of strength to fight against Metal Sonic keeping him prisoner due to starvation and the constant torture of being in the prison. He's fast on his heels, quick enough to send a message- one that reaches the Resistance, and kickstarts Avatar's journey towards Infinite and rescuing Sonic, who can only keep running for so long within the prison until Avatar reaches the prison. Insert stages/stealth mechanics maybe.
Sonic teams with Avatar to fight Metal who eventually retreats after being heavily damaged, his only ability here is to boost their speed, which becomes helpful when the prison is accidentally destroyed from the tremors of their fight, and a running stage with a timer starts.
With a swift escape, they are yet to actually defeat their foes who are still hot on their tail- leading to the ultimate 'climax' point of the original game where everyone gathers to fight against the Eggman Empire, the only difference is there is no Sonic as he has gone after Infinite who pulled Avatar away to the sides, recounting the time he nearly ended the other's life but only to have a young fox to step in and protect him.
(He's angered. Jealous even- he couldn't do that for his own team, his own family.)
The final fight is here, with Sonic wielding a wispon and fighting against Infinite with a huge handicap on his part due to his inability to spin dash, and now- he still wins. He wins with his speed, his determination albeit constantly beaten up over and over, and in the end still teaches the lesson, friendship is magic and boy does it always win in the end.
Just a mess of thoughts at 3am while listening to the Sunset Heights ost after the entire 'Infinite heavily implied to be dead' thing, I unironically really liked Forces though I wished it was taken into another direction
The Liberators (Teaser)
A spin-off of: Counterpart
[Shuri fan art used in the poster originally from this post!]
Tumblr media
A Limited Framework Fic Series
Blurb: The subservient’s that disrupted the equilibrium within the framework are gone, taking Bucky and Sam’s avatars with them. Alone in the world once more, Natalia Romanova forms a pact with the Black Panther, leader of the newly formed resistance group -the Liberators- to rescue her old friend, Virginia Pepper Potts from the clutches of a Hydra super-prison in New Sokovia.
Pietro begins to find his purpose as he pledges himself to the cause of the Liberators as recompence for calling in the favour to ambush Hydra’s HQ in New York, resulting in the death of a key member of their group, while Sharon deals with the fall out of her betrayal and the possibility of taking on a new persona in an effort to get her daughter back.
Meanwhile, Adrian Toomes proves to be the most unstable member of this ragtag group of misfits as he battles with his rage after his daughter and her boyfriend were kidnapped by unknown forces weeks prior. Erik takes it upon himself to keep Toomes in check, however this results in constant head-butting between the two.
Their actions, though small, begin to turn the tide in a long dead rebellion between Shield and Hydra. But can they stay cohesive long enough to make a difference, or will their infighting be the nail in the coffin?
The RDA and Black Market Trade of Pandora's Wildlife
Message Heard in the Hunting Lodge (Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora):
John Mercer: Harding, what is going on over there? Col. Harding: Just seeing some pushback from the Blues, as usual. John Mercer: Don’t give me that. I’ve seen the reports. Col. Harding: We have a lead on a major stash of zakru bone. We’re talking containers of it, a whole cargo hold.  John Mercer: Look, I don’t give a damn about your little treasure hunt. The moment it becomes a liability though, it’s gone.  Col. Harding: Understood. I’m pulling back to the extraction facility. Going to need some more room to maneuver. John Mercer: Do as you must. Mercer out.
Ah, Harding is poaching animals because of course she is, and planning to sell the stash on the black market back home on Earth to make more than her salary. Mercer overlooks it, but he’s starting to see her lose focus on RDA (and his) objectives and it becomes Harding's big mistake angering the Zeswa Clan in the area with her killings. As Mercer later tells her to pull back, "Your little black market has brought the blues to our doorstep," and losing his facility with it.
The formation of such a side market is unsurprising, especially in the Western Frontier which is far from HQ and seems to be a place where anything goes. A case in point is how the hunting of the tulkun in the Pandoran Oceans is differently managed. The carefulness taken by Scoresby's team to not hunt too close to shore/Reef villages is to avoid incurring their wrath (as it did with the past incident involving Payakan). It is too valuable a resource to the RDA and needs to continue under the radar of the Resistance who remain outside the area at that time. Both Garvin and Scoresby underscore this point retelling the importance of the tulkun to the Metkayina when Quaritch plans to hunt close to their territories (again another big mistake ... seeing a pattern here).
We also learn at the end of the game (via General Ardmore's conversation with Harding) that Mercer's meddling in the Western Frontier was part of an executive power play. No wonder he was allowing Harding to poach because, in turn, she was aiding his positioning. The loss of the Western Frontier also further explains the events of The Way of Water, that is, Project Pheonix's/the Recom Project's unleashing and the control of SecOps over Pandoran operations. It was time for new tactics.
run away with me
Tumblr media
Pairing: Nor/Sarentu!Reader
Warnings: Spoilers for Avatar Frontiers of Pandora, fluff, angst, mentions of brainwashing and residential school trauma
Taglist: @mooniequeen
A/N: No one has requested me to write for AFoP so I decided to take matters into my own hands *cracks knuckles* Let's get to work.
This is basically my rendition of the cutscene you see when playing the game, after the title card. I made it lean more toward the angsty, romance play that we were robbed of when the game finally came out XD Enjoy!
Part 2
Tumblr media
When So'lek told you that Nor had left Resistance HQ to have some time to think, you knew you needed to seek him out.
Using your new abilities and talents to track him down, it didn't shock you when you found Nor on one of the highest cliffs near the base of their new home. You remember he made a comment earlier about how there were more colors on Pandora than he remembered and how he had no names for them. You suspected he'd be all the way out here, admiring those colors and maybe trying to invent new names for them.
He didn't react when you approached the small fire he made, likely expecting you to come find him. He turned to face you with lowered ears and a forlorn look in his eyes, "What must our ancestors think of us? Do you think they pity us? Sad to see what we've become?"
"We're still Sarentu."
"Teylan barely speaks our tongue, but then... he always preferred human words."
"Alma says we all need time to adjust."
"Alma is not Na'vi." He growled lowly, turning away to kneel down in front of the fire.
You weren't deterred by his attitude, knowing Nor better than you sometimes knew yourself. He felt things stronger than most. He was passionate about what or how he felt and he wasn't afraid to admit it, hence why he didn't shy away when he proudly proclaimed his feelings toward you. It was years ago now, just the night before Alma snuck you and your friends into cryosleep to wait out the war. All that time you could've been with Nor... lost to cryosleep.
Nor felt the same loss as well, and that is why he wasn't wasting any more time. When neither of you are out on missions, you're with each other, safe at HQ, making up for lost time. Your relationship is technically still new and can easily be chalked up to young love, but Nor didn't see it that way. He claimed that was the way only Sky People saw it, but not the Na'vi. He wanted to do this right, and in his mind, the only right way was the Na'vi way.
So he asked So'lek for advice, on standard Na'vi customs and what the older man might know about the Sarentu ways to court someone. Nor was determined and straightforward about what he wanted to make sure you only got the best treatment. The Na'vi treatment, something that you deserved to have when you were younger but it was taken from you.
That's what you loved about him, growing up beside him. He reminded you so much of your sister at times with their shared determination as kids, though you refused to continue making that comparison after she died... afraid that if Nor acted too much like Aha'ri, then he would die just like her. You couldn't bear to lose him, too, not after everything Mercer and TAP have done to you.
Even now, as you two stood on top of that cliff, you were afraid of losing him, either to death or to life, should life and fate decide to tear you two apart. You wished you could vocalize your fear to him, but you were never as brave or as straightforward as Nor. You were grateful he had approached you about his feelings first, or else neither of you would've ever known.
Although you were not one with words, you were one with actions, and even Nor knew that you communicated with deeds.
Walking up to him, you slide your hand over his shoulder, and while he doesn't say a word, trapped with the demons in his head, he places his own hand on top of yours, a gesture of gratitude. He was thankful for your comfort, knowing that your way of communicating stems from being touch-starved and you would rather voice your thoughts through your actions instead of just saying them because, to you, that means so much more.
You keep your hand on his shoulder, the warmth of his palm bleeding into your skin while you look up and over the cliffside, admiring the scenery with a sad tone in your voice, "Why did the RDA come back?"
"They wanted more of Pandora," he responds with defeat, "They always do."
"Then we'll need to fight," you express with determination, squeezing his shoulder, "Aha'ri would have wanted us to fight."
You try to pull away, but Nor is suddenly too fast. He grasps your hand, gently, and you pause in your movement. He stands to his full height to gaze into your eyes, trying to relay what he's thinking without saying a word. But he wasn't like you. He wasn't good at sharing his thoughts through actions. He was better at it by talking, so that is what he did.
"Or we could run," he suggests and is quick to continue when the expression on your face falls, "Leave this place. Find somewhere else to call home."
"We've talked about this, Nor," you sigh tiredly, recalling not long ago when you, him, Ri'nela and Teylan were all sitting around a fire as Nor suggested they could all run away together. You express the same thing you said back then, too, "Alma brought us here for a reason. She believes in us."
He snarls, though there isn't much heat behind it, "Alma just wants to control us."
Not even you believed what he was saying, lowering your voice to a comforting whisper, "Alma is not Mercer. She actually cares about us as People."
"She left us."
"She thought we were gone."
He steps closer until he's nearly pressed against your chest, his hands sliding up to gently grasp both sides of your face, entwined in your hair. His voice wavered, desperate eyes staring back into yours, "If it were me instead of her, I would've clawed through the rubble of TAP, and I would've looked forever. Un... until I knew for sure if I lost you or not."
You wanted to be touched by the statement, your heart fluttering in your chest while Nor could no doubt feel your heartbeat, pumping through his hands as they rested near both sides of your neck. You shake your head slightly, "That is different. What Alma feels for us is not the same as... as what you feel for me. For all of us."
He shivered, almost proud that you managed to admit your confidence in his feelings toward you. He leans his forehead against yours, breathing in the same air as you while he matches the intimate moment with a whisper, "Exactly. I can't trust Alma with my family. I can only trust myself or you to take care of the four of us, to ensure we stick together."
You wet your lips when they felt dry, deciding to play into his dream for a little bit, "Suppose we did run away... where would we go?"
'Wherever we want! All of us,' he wanted to say the same thing he told Teylan down by the campfire, but he says it differently with you, "Anywhere, far away from here."
"Just the four of us?"
"The four of us," he confirms with a nod, thinking that he had you convinced, "We'll start our own clan. We'll renew the Sarentu."
"And what will happen when the war eventually finds us?"
Your question drives Nor to freeze, and so you continue, "Either Mercer, RDA, or TAP, it won't matter. They'll find us. You know they will."
He unfroze finally, huffing with determination, "Then we will fight."
"But if we fight now, and we win, then we can leave and we will never have to worry about the Sky People again," your hands moved until they were wrapped around Nor's waist, a bold move to match his own, his fingers still wrapped up in the hair on the back of your neck,
"We would never have to keep running or look over our shoulders ever again," you continue, "If we can end this sooner than later, I will go with you. I'll go wherever you want. But... But I can't leave now knowing what the Sky People are capable of. I can't leave knowing that there would be another child out there whose clan was wiped out and I wasn't brave enough to stop it from happening. I would never forgive myself."
Your words stun him into silence, and the intensity of his gaze causes you to feel shy and embarrassed, lowering your head to avoid him until his hands pause your movement. He gently uses his thumbs to push your chin to tilt back up, and when your eyes meet, he pauses for a moment, his intense eyes scanning your expression before his lips twitch up into a small, fond smile, "Heh."
"What?" You tilt your head, hesitant but smiling as well.
"Nothing. It's just... Aha'ri would be proud of you."
He says it so confidently that you know you believe him, and his words make your heart swell with pride and grief, missing your sister. Nor leans back and digs in the pocket of his pants, "I have something for you."
"What is it?"
He provides a carved stone, bearing the mark you both have on your face to signify your long-lost clan, "It's something to remind you of me, whenever you leave HQ and I cannot follow you. It's also a promise."
"What promise?"
"That if I ever leave, it will only be when you are ready to come with me," he leans back into your space, pressing your foreheads together once more as he closes his eyes, taking in your scent, "This time, my love, I go wherever you go."
You clutch the stone in your hand, wanting the carved mark to brand into your skin as you close your eyes as well. You already plan to tie Nor's stone into the songcord So'lek had given you, and you hope that in time, the songcord will grow, and there will be many more milestones to signify. Milestones that you hope that Nor and your friends will share with you, as Sarentu and as your family.
Forces 2nd anniversary: My avatar collection!
Sonic Forces turns 2 today! I wanted to return to the game just to play for a couple of hours, maybe find something new (spoilers: it really didn’t happen) and, most importantly, share my avatars and their stories.
Back around the first months of the game I made a handful of characters, following a cool backstory set-up or trying to recreate already existing Sonic characters using the game’s tools. I’m gonna split this post right here to not clog up your dashboards (yeah, I love you all too), but feel free to join the fun!
Tumblr media
1. Sally Acorn (kinda)
Back during pre-release, one of the biggest theories around the fandom expressed that Forces may be set in the Freedom Fighters universe. Even back then it was a wacky theory for a mainline Sonic game, but I liked the idea (even tho one of my headcanons says Forces is set straight after Chronicles). So, when I got my hands on the game, the first character I created was a kind of a Sally knock-off, and I stuck with her over the entire game, unlocking more clothes to try and recreate her as best as I could. Forces character creation limitations are going to be a constant in this post, and this is the best I could come up with, but I’m still happy with the results. Sally is a wolf now, lmao.
Tumblr media
2. Hipster Boom Sonic
Another big theory going around the fandom back then was that the third playable character was going to be Boom Sonic, but after SEGA and Sonic Team saw how hard Rise of Lyric bombed, decided to instead do a player-created original character as the third gameplay pillar. I don’t think that theory has much solid ground to stand on, but back in 2017 I for sure ran off to the avatar creation screen right after beating the game, and made my own take on Boom Sonic. It’s pretty AU, but in a nice kinda way.
Headcanon goes as follows: Classic Sonic got warped through time and space because of the Phantom Ruby, and so did this older Sonic from the Boom dimension. “Hipster” Boom Sonic is a completely different kind of Sonic, one that has settled down and was having a nice, chill life until the Phantom Ruby shenanigans struck his dimension; now he’s working with the two other Sonics to try and stop this madness, and to return home with his friends and his special someone (yeah it’s who you think it is).
Tumblr media
3. Normal (bootleg) Bunnie Rabbot
Yeah, another freedom fighter. You know, I’m not a “Freedom Fighters are the GOAT” type of guy (I don’t even like the extended Archie Sonic Universe), but what I do like a lot is the OG SatAM universe. After doing Sally, I thought: “Hey, Bunnie could be mostly recreated in this game, right?” And I could’ve gone pretty far with things like the robotic gloves and shoes, but I rapidly went on another tangent: recreating Bunnie, but without the robotic stuff, maybe like “a normal girl”, if you like. I loved the results.
Also, yeah, I think every single one of my old characters had headsets, it was part of my headcanon about radio comms on the Resistance.
Tumblr media
4. Carlos (OC)
Finally, an original character (do not steal)! Carlos is my first-ever OC (yeah I never bothered making my own OC until Forces), he’s heavily into technology stuff (that’s why he’s rocking all those Mega Drive clothes), he loves Chao a lot (in fact he is carrying his Chao bag all the time), and checking my old Sonic Forces review (in spanish, btw), I came up with a pretty cool backstory for him:
Carlos was a Metropolis resident, working as IT for one of the city’s biggest companies until Eggman attacked. After the Eggman Empire took over, Carlos was left unemployed, and one night had to flee his home after getting into explosive trouble with a patrol of Eggman’s robots on a Metropolis back alley. That event caught the attention of the Resistance, who guided Carlos to their HQ and made him the new recruit. Now Carlos uses his technical skills to hack and slash through Eggman’s forces, looking to free his home from the oppresing regime of Dr. Eggman.
Tumblr media
5. Blaze the Cat (I guess)
I wanted to recreate Blaze, but it proved to be a pretty tough task to achieve. So, I tried to mix a couple of her designs from the Mario & Sonic Olympics games, Sonic Riders AND her official design. Shadow’s shoes were the closest thing to her original shoes I could find (I’m still trying to find a replacement, 2 years later), the gloves are part of the Riders look (now that I think about it, I could try to match her Riders design more closely), and Amy’s dress is not that far from one of her designs from M&S.
Tumblr media
6. Star the Bear (OC)
Holy shit, another OC! By this point on the game I started to feel more confortable around the idea of making my own characters (it’s a one way trip, I tell ya!), so I tried to make a character that wasn’t exactly my cup of tea.
Star’s backstory isn’t as developed as Carlos’, but I wanted to make him kind of a up-and-coming pop star, something like Justin Beaver from Sonic Boom but more humble. Star was performing live at Sunset City when the Eggman assault began, and in turn had to seek shelter with the not-yet-formed Resistance. Inspired by Silver’s fashion sense (he’s such a wild diva, I love it), Star jumpstarted (heh) his career singing a cover of Dreams of an Absolution. Also, I made up that last part just for this post, lmao.
Tumblr media
7. OVA Knuckles
I think I made this character based on a funny tweet I saw shortly after release. The game gives you Knuckles’ shoes, Boom-style gloves and his cowboy hat from the OVA, of course I was going to make a character with those tools and put him alongside the real Knuckles (yeah that’s my screenshot).
le funny meme, haha.
Tumblr media
8. Amy Rose
Don’t lie to me, you also tried this on your own. Looking at the Cube Wispon I thought: “man! it’s such a wasted opportunity to not have Amy playable in this game!”
I mean, the game gives you almost every single tool for recreating Amy, EXCEPT her quills, headband AND her right shade of pink. Still, this couldn’t stop the SonAmy shipping hype train and I’m not the only one that made this character only for the Tag Team stages. Feels great to take over the world, stage by stage, as Amy.
Tumblr media
8.5. Amy Rose (Wedding variant)
“After years of love and specially patience, Amy asked Sonic the big question once again, and he finally said yes! But shortly after, during an unfortunate chain of events, the world ended under Eggman’s domination. Oh, the irony!”
AU as fuck, but hey, that was my shipping side during 2017. Nowadays this could very well tie-in with my now-abandoned Celebrity Life fic thingy, tho. I’m currently thinking of doing her Runners Gothic Amy design.
Tumblr media
9. The most recent one
I think I made this caracter during mid-2018 or even later. She’s my current avatar and haven’t thought of a backstory or even a name yet. I believe I got inspired when I first tried to turn Amy into a mourning widow (that got dark fast lmao), but then made my own character dressing in the almighty black color. Maybe one day I will come up with a name and a backstory.
And that’s all, folks! If you reached this far, first of all thank you! I put a lot of thought into my characters and I guess that’s why I have 50+ hours of playtime, also I hope all my efforts made you maybe laugh, or maybe inspired you. Don’t hesitate in joining the conversation, specially if you have your own characters to share. Let’s make this Forces anniversary one hell of a party featuring all kinds of avatars.
