Drawing sketches Gus from Cats, original London and original Broadway casting.
Original London Gus gives off a more sickly, fragile look of an elder. The lack of facial hair to me contributes to it, at least going by photos use for references (thanks Cats fandom wiki). Stephen Tate's narrow face shape (unless it's the photo angles) helps also.
Original Broadway Gus has a fuller, wider face. So to me, he appears more of an elder whose old age is getting to him slowly with each passing day. Stephen Hanan having facial hair (unless this Gus has it for his costume design) I think contributes to said thinking.

a ghost of a fictional cat that roams the junkyard that is of fame theatre cat's self describe grandest creation and what made history, at least in the 1998 version
plus a little doodle of what i think firefrorefiddle would look like as an actual cat (not gus).
(hard to tell, but his tail is block by his leg.)

More Gus sketches. From upper left clockwise (and comments)
1998!Gus (A old and fragile cat I would trust and give gin too to hear his stories)
Gus as an actual cat (I can't draw actual cats)
Firefrorefiddle design attempt (Despite appearing for a minute or so, I LOVE Firefrorefiddle's costume! It sucks there is no true 'reference' except that one wig photo and I just...went from there)
Old Possum!Gus (I have no idea why I gave him extra lines underneath his eyes. I still like it)

Re-reading The Wonderful Wizard of Oz had me deciding to redesign the few Oz characters designs I drew years ago I also posted on this blog. First off is Dorothy, who's original character design can be located here. I feel I got better in abilities and with how I take photos too (seriously).
But poor Toto, who looks the same as he did in the OG design he still belongs to a cartoon.

an attempt at least.
a funny little cat with a fitting funny name that he also happens to share with another older cat, at least in the 1998 version.

This feels like an pre-ATWQ Ellington with braids.
I think it’s the clothes she’s in that makes it feel that way.

Anyone remember that racist Land of Oz book about the Scarecrow, and how apparently, he was a human emperor from a fictional Asian country that grossly mix-and-match Chinese and Japanese culture, before becoming you know...a scarecrow? A scarecrow who was already sentient and having thoughts while getting created?
I do, and as Asian (Cambodian) descent, I legit had to PAUSE reading at times because of the damn awfulness. And I told myself after finishing it, that I could come up with something better.
It's not 100% done, and there's a good chance I'll change things. But for the time being, this will do.
Weijian Yi (first name Weijian, last name Yi; prefers to go by his last name), a Chinese-American hailing from San Francisco, came to Oz around the same time as the Wizard. Yi very much wanted to go back home, but the events happening in Oz made it impossible. And sadly, Yi eventually died in a random field in Munchkin Country one cold rainy night, with only butterflies as his companions.
The random field was eventually bought by a farmer. For years, several Ozians claims on certain nights in the field, unnatural glowing butterflies can be see flying around with a ghostly figure walking among them. Many didn't believe it, for it sounds unbelievable by Oz standards.
One day the rumors stop, sort of. The detail of the ghostly figure was never seen again, not long after the farmer created a scarecrow for his field. But the unnatural glowing butterflies stayed, flying around as if they're looking for someone. Who, no one knows.
The rumors of the roaming unnatural glowing butterflies one day, reaches the Emerald City. The Scarecrow, having watch the field, is curious, for never had he seen them before, and wants to know more of these rumored sightings.
So, why not investigate it? There's no harm learning about the apparently haunting, right?
