It was a day as always, lights dimmed down the hall, and all the people had cleared out. Alec sat in his room, brows furrowed, hands fidgeted the edge of his white robe. He should have been resting right now, rinsing out a tired, long day, yet, he simply waited.
“Miss me already?” A familiar voice rang through the room, and another man stepped into view. With every step, his jewelry glistened like starlight. Magnus sat next to him, too close, too far. Alec allowed himself to steal moments of Magnus, marveling, a bit frustrated, at how such a man could exist.
“Not at all.” Alec couldn’t help but smile, then scowled. “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
Magnus caught his gaze, grin wildening. “Oh? So I must have mistaken that letter for yours then. Guess I have to leave now, shame.”
Before Magnus could get up, Alec nervously tugged on his sleeve. “I didn’t say you should go. I don’t mind your presence.”
Judging by the probably the feigned offended reaction on Magnus’s face, it was not the response he wanted to hear. Alec knew that. Magnus hadn’t bothered to show up at the temple for a week, and Alec could understand. He knew how frustrating it must be, for a love under corridors and whispers in the night. He wished there could be a better way.
“I want you here.” Alec breathed out. “Please, stay.”
“Well, if you say so,” Magnus responded, his voice went soft. “Besides, how could I leave you alone on such a cold winter?” Magnus took Alec’s hand and pressed his lips to it, making Alec’s heart leap from its cage.
Maybe, just maybe, he would allow himself, just for these moments, to be more than the renowned, chaste priest his family raised him to be.

“Did you regret it?”
Alec tilted his head to look at his brother, who clearly had been harboring this question for a long time.
“It could have been worse.” He took another sip of his wine, all sweet and elegant. It was a gift from the new concubine, thousands upon thousands of crushed fruits and flower petals, ordered by the king to make something worthy of his new conquest. He had the right to show off, seeing how Alec’s husband had favored only him for an entire month and left the rest of the harem dust. Hopefully, they could stay like that and spare Alec the trouble.
“But it could have been better.” Jace pointed out. “You could’ve run away.” Luckily for Jace’s tongue, Alec had ordered all the servants to leave the room, they could discuss this without fearing the sword dangling over their heads.
“All families needed people by his majesty’s side, both in court and his bed. I simply perform my duty as a Lightwood.”
“You didn’t have to, that’s my point! You shouldn’t sacrifice your happiness for the sake of everyone.” Jace said, heat and accusation packed in his tone. As if it hadn’t torn Alec from bones to flesh that day, knowing he had to marry a man he didn’t, couldn’t love, a man who wasn’t Magnus.
“All I know is that–” Alec gritted out, hand curled tightly over his cup. “Isabelle is happy to live a simple life with Simon, and Max will no doubt grow to take over our family with a respectable spouse by his side.” And Magnus would be happier without Alec weighing him down. He left that part unsaid. “I appreciate your concern for my well-being, but frankly, this debacle is fruitless. Let's leave it at that.”
After Jace had left, Alec retreated to his chamber. He closed all the windows and checked again to guarantee there was not a spot where people could spy on him. Once he’d finished, he reached out under his bed, opened the hidden locket with his keystone, and retreated a single piece of paper. On it laid a simple sentence, asking whether Alec remembered the blossom tree.
Alec had received this letter after he sent Magnus his birthday gift. It had cost him more effort than he was willing to admit. He remembered years ago, back when they didn’t know any better, Magnus had wanted a blossom tree whose flowers bloom blue purer than the sky. Alec wasn’t that young boy sitting in silence to admire the gold flecks in his lover’s eyes anymore, but even years at the palace couldn’t turn his love to stone. He poured his money and time in, trying and failing and trying again, the success only came after millions of failures. Still, Alec had Jace deliver the gift for him, fearing if he could meet Magnus, he wouldn’t leave him. The letter came back soon after.
“Remember the camellia fields?” It had said, drawing back memory of warmer days, the two of them playing around in the Lightwood’s summer house, eyes only for each other. He remembered asking Magnus, and his lover pinned him down on the grass below, the answer and laughter in between kisses tasted like honey.

Time was ticking. The ashes had just begun. Alec was a fool who fell in love with the enemy.
“I’m sorry.” Alec smiled, the slight movement tore the wounds in his stomach bigger, blood dripping down his armor. Laying helplessly across Magnus's lap would remind him of how easy things had been between them if there wasn’t a sword piercing through his body.
“Alexander–no, stay with me–don't you dare close your eyes, Alexander! We can figure this out.” He could feel Magnus’s heavy sobbing, and Alec would frown if he had the energy for it. Magnus should never be sad.
“It’s okay,” Alec assured him, every breath felt like torture as life drained out from him. “It’s not your fault, there is no other way.”
Magnus was still saying something, and Alec swore he would never miss a word from Magnus, but it was getting so hard to focus.
People said a person’s last hour opened their eyes to things they didn’t know, couldn’t understand before, to tease them with the knowledge of a greater life, then take it away. Having Magnus by his side was the cruelest yet sweetest thing life had granted him, Alec was grateful all the same.
“I love you.” Alec closed his eyes.

“What’s wrong with them?” Zelda threw her hands up in frustration. “No fucking way they kept doing this to me.”
“Give it up already. It’s been what, your 500th try? At some point, you gotta admit defeat.” Nguyen rolled her eyes, that asshole.
“I’ve tried everything! It’s their stupid asses keep ruining my perfectly crafted sabotage plan!” Zelda exclaimed.
Ruining a couple should never be this difficult. Zelda prided herself on her skill, to turn love into hatred. Things as simple as a late dinner or complicated as my-sister-got-killed-by-your-dad-on-purpose never failed to accomplish their missions.
But these twos– she didn’t know what to do with them. Throw one or both of them in a forbidden status, and they are somehow still entangled. Kill one of them, and well, let's just say the memos she received for that particular attempt weren’t very nice. Too much collateral damage.
“Come on, I know they got banished and wiped out their time serving in the celestial realm, and yada yada, that punishment is enough. No need to get your ears all twisted over this.”
What Nguyen- the slacker didn’t know was that Zelda had been holding the title of number one relationship breaker for 2000 years. She intended to hold on for 2000 years more.
“I’ll get them this time, mark my words.” Zelda went back to her planning board. Unlike previous times, she needed to play the long game. She’d make them the total opposite this time, one light, one dark. One mortal, one doomed to live forever until only their scattered spirit remained. The immortal one would open his heart to others, the scars would never heal. The other would be none the wiser, too clueless, too stubborn, his prickly cover would wound more than the sharpest dagger.
Zelda smiled at her result.
Let's see how two battered doors could be together.

“Magnus! I’m working!” Alec protested but immediately burst into laughter. “I'm serious Magnus, let me focus. ”
His husband, of course, being the incredibly mature figure that he was, just tightened his arms around Alec’s waist. “It’s the holiday, no work’s allowed.”
“Demons don’t take holiday.”
“I don’t care.”
“C’mon Magnus.” Alec pouted. “20 more minutes.”
“Your 20, and 30, and 40, and the next thing I knew I had to carry you off from your table.”
“You’re being dramatic.”
“Sh–you’re disrupting my rest.” Proceeded the fake snoring. God, Alec loved his husband.
“C’mon Magnus, I promise Max and Rafe we will be making a gingerbread house together. I can’t move while you’re on top of me.”
Magnus looked up at that, wiggling his eyebrows. “You never complain befor–” Alec shut him up with a kiss. They both sank into it, turned out that when one did something for enough time, it was easier than breathing.
“Fine.” Alec surrendered. There was no point arguing with Magnus. Alec would fold later anyway. “I’m blaming this on you if they fire me.”
“Darling, you’re the consul, only Raziel could fire you. And I wouldn’t let them.”
“How lucky I am, bagging such a fine husband.”
“I know, such a shame mine is slacking off his husband's duty.”
Alec smiled and kissed his husband again.

Ok, naturally, I am curious now... are there any fics that explore any of these things on Patrick's CV? Thanks Leslie!
like in a direct way? there's not much that i can really think of that's canonverse and clearly a reference to his history as it's listed on his cv. there are def lots of fics that mention west canthor in some way (though most often as his hometown rather than in specific reference to the university), but i can't really think of anything that deals with him having previously performed in any of the listed plays or where the listed skills are part of his past, etc.
