Fancy Dancing with RG!Ken x GN!Reader

I’ve been in Barbie hyperfixation land ever since I watched it, and Ken is such a fun character to read about so I tried throwing my hat in the ring. I didn’t really see anything like this but the idea of ballroom dancing with Ken like in a Barbie princess movie,,, it’s been spinning around in my brain like a microwave pizza roll. If this is incomprehensible it’s because it’s 1am and I already took my melatonin lmao if anyone else wants to write smth like this *gestures vaguely* I would love to read it I wanna see more formal princely Ken fics

- once a month President Barbie holds a formal gala!!! What, did you think every night in barbieland was a chill dream house party with planned choreography? No, of course not! We gotta add some variety

- every Barbie has some knowledge of classical dance, along with other choreos, yes even you!

- You’re getting dressed in your FAVORITE fancy outfit, you’ve been waiting to break it out since the last gala, the month before!

- You make sure your hair and clothing are perfect before you get in your car to pick Ken up. You find him in town, already in his clean pressed suit and ready for dancing. You let him sit in the passenger’s seat after he asked nicely :)

- Once you get to the ballroom, there’s a table full of plastic treats, the President really goes all out on these events! There’s even a chocolate fountain! The chocolate doesn’t move, of course, but what does in Barbieland?

- There’s a classical song playing from a live band of Barbies. It’s so nice of them to play their beautiful music for tonight, and they do get to dance at some point or another because they deserve it 🩷

- Ken asks you if you’d like to dance with him, crossing his fingers down by his waist hoping you’d say yes. You nod, and he fist pumps the air before reaching out for your hand.

- Making your way to the center of the dancefloor, the barbie band starts a new song, one that you know very well. You and Ken dance together beautifully, every step in sync and perfect.

- That is, until you take a misstep and trip over your feet, falling in slow motion to the music.

- Ken, thinking quickly reaches out, and the slowed time flashes back to normal as soon as you’re back in his arms. He holds you close for a moment before bringing you back to your feet.

- Taking a break, you two decide to go out onto the elegant balcony connected off the ballroom, and stare up into the starry night sky of barbieland 🩷

barbie is from a super small town & her family owns a ranch that she’s set to inherit

she grows up and starts working as a farmhand

her best friends are ken & emma

ken works alongside her, mainly in training and caring for the horses (duh) whereas emma works as a tattoo artist at a parlor in town, though occasionally she does help barbie on weekends with some harvesting or repairs/construction if an extra hand is needed

gloria would be from the city definitely. like queens or something; city girl and very artsy and grounded

she’s introduced because emma tries a semester of art school in new york before deciding it isn’t for her, and it’s through one of her classes that she meets gloria

she invites gloria to her hometown for a couple of weeks in the summer

gloria is immediately smitten with barbie

barbie is INSANELY charming and attractive

she’s tall (5’10 is her canon height in my head in every universe, idc idc), strong, lean, tan, with the softest skin and prettiest hair and eyes

she speaks confidently and her smile is dazzling and swoon-worthy and her voice has this little drawl in it and it all makes her SUCH a heartthrob

not to mention the fact that she’s so polite and such a gentlewoman, doing things like always holding/opening the door, helping to carry others’ groceries (especially the town elders), saying good morning/afternoon/evening to anyone passing by while she walks (and if she’s wearing her cowboy hat, she does that thing where she takes it off or tips it, out of courtesy)

she offers her hand to hold while going down the steps or anything steep around the ranch, as well as pulling the chair out for gloria at dinner, whether it be at barbie’s house or emma’s or ken’s or some restaurant or diner

^ these two things she seems to only do with gloria, though, which has ken and emma definitely giving each other the side eye

the town’s kids adore barbie, and she’s amazing with them. she carries around little stickers or stamps or cool rocks she finds to hand to them, depending on what she knows they collect

also barbie has rock hard abs that gloria literally wants to drool over

barbie calling gloria “city girl” and “little lady”

always in that teasing way, with her accent and that damn smile

emma learning about stick and pokes in art school, which she thinks are so cool because you don’t need much for them and she can totally do them

barbie letting emma practice on her

barbie having a couple of scattered stick and pokes on the muscles of her thighs, as a result of this

barbie, ken, emma and gloria as well as a couple of other friends from town having game nights where they play card games like poker, blackjack, texas hold em, etc.

barbie asking for her parents’ help in preparing gloria’s favorite as a celebratory dinner and also buying gloria a plush of her favorite animal, a card with all their friends’ signatures, a bunch of gloria’s favorite candy/snacks, balloons, a handpicked bouquet from the garden, oh boy it just goes on

gloria’s heart literally skipping like 5 beats at all the effort barbie put in, as well as the fact that barbie gives her the biggest hug and sweeps her off her feet while telling her how proud she is of her, with the biggest smile on her face and her eyes so bright and sparkly and glossy and ohmygoddddd

barbie definitely being a beer or whisky girl

like beer at home but whisky when they go out to the town’s pool hall

gloria being really good at pool and barbie being like hell yeah that’s my city girl!!!

the townspeople referring to barbie as “your cowboy” when speaking to gloria

gloria blushing hard asf and being like “oh no, we’re not—”

barbie butting in at that exact moment from across the pool hall like “gloria look!!” while doing some stupid stunt with ken, all in the name of impressing gloria

barbie loving the farm animals more than anything and always finding the time to care for them

gloria noticing this and thinking it’s the cutest thing

gloria also noticing a large scar barbie has, running from the line of her abdomen around her side; she doesn’t bring it up though

they dance around each other for the longest time omggg, mainly because gloria thinks barbie is so irresistibly charismatic and appealing that she has tons of people lining up for a chance with her, and gloria has no shot

meanwhile barbie thinks gloria is the most talented and wonderful person she’s ever met, but she believes gloria’s ambitions and how far she will go in life is way bigger and greater than what barbie could offer her right now

they’re so stupid

they never say it out loud (how into each other they are) but at the same time they never pursue anyone else and they do things that are unmistakably more than just friendly

plus everyone can see their chemistry and attraction & it’s so obvious

barbie probably having a record collection she’s really proud of and wanting to show them to gloria

barbie being a fumbling nervous mess scrambling to toss things aside and tidy up as gloria walks into her bedroom for the first time

barbie being like “s-sorry about the mess!” and wiping her hands on her denim jeans awkwardly. saying some endearing thing like “i’m not used to having girls in here… especially such pretty ones.”

gloria, at that exact moment, spotting a vintage playboy magazine on barbie’s bed sdjsksmd

her picking it up and holding it up to barbie being like “you sure about that?”

barbie going bright red, the most gloria has ever seen on a person, before she snatches it away and shoves it under her bed

(with the rest of her stash LMAO)

barbie eventually telling gloria the story of her scar, which is that when she was young, a lot of the older kids/boys had these amateur gangs and rivalries and all that, where barbie unwittingly got mixed up in some brawl and ended up getting stabbed

she spent a lot of time at home while she recovered, and it was there that she discovered her love for working on the farm, particularly with the animals, who gave her a sense of peace and happiness while she was in a lot of pain

barbie telling this story while she and gloria are laying on some blankets in the back of barbie’s truck, stargazing

their song is “rhythm & blues” by the head and the heart, btw

gloria having her head on barbie’s chest, barbie’s arm around her

barbie in some overalls with no shirt underneath because it’s too hot, making it easy for gloria to slip her hand beneath the denim and trace her fingers across the scar

she also kisses barbie’s cheek and whispers how sorry she is, how strong barbie is and how much she admires it

barbie shivering at the touch and feeling so heard and seen and cared for and loved, her heart racing

they definitely end up realizing how dumb and blind they’re being, and go on their first date not long after that

barbie “dressing up” for it, in her jeans and boots for special occasions, with a sweater and her nicest belt

her leaning her arm against the wall gloria is standing in front of, being like “i clean up pretty nice, don’t you think?” with a little wink and her cheeky smile

gloria rolling her eyes slightly but definitely blushing, swooning, giggling, falling head over heels

gloria wearing an outfit she thought was nice yet casual enough, a long denim skirt with a pretty, thin sweater tucked into it (a look that emma helped style)

barbie being like those cartoon characters whose eyes turn to giant hearts and pop out of their heads and their jaws drop

she’s just a gay mess all the time around gloria tbh

their first date being so so sweet and fun and wholesome and barbie walking gloria to her door (emma’s door, because that’s where gloria is staying) and kissing her cheek and bidding her a good night

she is wearing her cowboy hat (she had only been doing so in her truck, but forgot to take it off this time as she got out)

i will say i missed sasha since she wasn’t in this one since they are young but my consolation is that she ends up being their bio child in the future <3

I saw the Barbie movie earlier today, and I obviously have a lot of thoughts, but as a woman on her period right now, in excruciating pain, I have one major thing:

How would Barbie react to her first period?

I can just imagine her, after running to Gloria’s house, screaming and crying like-

My Scene Instagram Profiles | Barbie 💅🏻💕

This is so fucking blurry I'm sorry, click on the pic for better quality. I was not about to miss the opportunity to post a Barbie-inspired My Scene IG profile on the same day the Barbie movie premiered, so here it is! This one was actually a bit harder to make. Obviously, Barbie is known for being hyperfeminine and pink-obsessed, however, I didn't feel like Barbie was always like that in My Scene. She was still pretty girly though and I wanted to make it true to her My Scene personality but still have it look cute. Eventually I just said "fuck it" and made most of the pics have some kind of pink in them because it would've felt boring as hell otherwise. You can't have Barbie without pink, that's just not a thing. I still tried to incorporate other aspects of her personality in My Scene, mainly her being a party girl and loving iced coffee lol. I'm pretty sure she was the one who planned Nolee's sweet 16 and also helped with that Masquerade Madness party. But yeah, happy Barbie movie premiere day! Make sure to watch it in theaters with your tackiest pink cowgirl hat bc that's what I'm doing. 💖

summer romance au headcanons

((inspired entirely by the song “striptease” by carwash))

*slight nsfw warning*

i like to think this all comes about by gloria winning another cruise at sasha’s school raffle

(but she and her husband are divorced now, and she finally has enough vacation days at work, so she can go!!)

sasha will be staying with her dad in the meantime

the cruise is going to the Caribbean and gloria will be gone for roughly a month

she’s a little hesitant at first because she’s not sure if she feels comfortable being apart from sasha for so long, especially since the divorce is rather fresh, but eventually she’s persuaded. more than anything sasha expresses that she’ll be fine and her mom should go for it. with the green light from her daughter, gloria feels a lot better about it. she really does deserve it, after all

it’s a little lonesome at first… the service isn’t always great, and the feeling of being disconnected and alienated is a little jarring for gloria

it gets better though

they dock at a beach village in the caribbean where they’re scheduled to stay until the end of the cruise

one beautiful tropical morning (they all are, honestly), gloria sits on the beach reading a book

and barbie tentatively approaches her, and asks if it’s ok if she sits there too, because it’s the only spot on the beach with shade, and barbie is already sporting a slight sunburn that she doesn’t wanna make worse

and gloria of course says yes

through small talk, they dissolve into an actual conversation

they are both from california. gloria from LA, and barbie from the bay area. she is not part of the cruise like gloria, though. instead, her parents own one of the resort’s restaurants and barbie more often than not spends her summers there, helping out

barbie is really sweet and tells gloria she should stop by the restaurant sometime

(she promises she won’t get offended if gloria doesn’t like the food, which makes gloria laugh)

then she has to leave, but she really hopes to see gloria again

she does, because gloria goes to the restaurant a few days later, for lunch

barbie spots her as she walks in and is immediately beaming

(and maybe gloria showed up because she’s had that smile stuck in her head ever since seeing it for the first time)

the food is actually really really good, which isnt even the point but still

barbie sits down with gloria while she has her meal and the two talk again. it feels so nice and so natural. so easy.

gloria is the most captivating person barbie has ever met. she has this ambition and this fire about her, while also being sophisticated yet very down to earth, and wow

barbie, in turn, is so sweet and easy to talk to and get along with. she has this air about her that is soothing and calming. it’s so hard for gloria to imagine ever feeling anything negative around her

barbie offers to show gloria more around the village sometime if she’d like

(gloria would very much like)

so the next day they meet up and barbie gives gloria a day tour of the village. they visit all these little shops like fudge ones and tea ones and farmers markets and souvenir shops

gloria uses this as an opportunity to get sasha a postcard that she can mail to her later

(barbie ends up infiltrating on the postcard. where gloria signs “love, mom” barbie adds in her pink pen “+ barbie! <3”)

they get these small matching keychains of their first name initials because they think they’re so cute

they end their day by having dinner at barbie’s restaurant on one of the private patios overlooking the ocean and drinking wine

barbie offers to walk gloria back to the cruise ship which gloria happily accepts

(and maybe barbie has to keep her hands in her pockets the whole entire time to have self control because gloria looks so unbelievably beautiful right now)

they get back to the ship and barbie is a whole mess talking about how wonderful today was. but she’s still somehow able to stumble out the words “will you go out on a date with me”

gloria says yes

(actually she has the biggest smile on her face and she leans up to kiss barbie’s cheek first and then she says yes)

barbie is dazed the entire walk home

and gloria tries her best to go to sleep, but she’s smushing her face into her pillow to hide the smile on her face that just won’t go away

the next evening barbie “picks” gloria up at the cruise ship, and she has a bouquet of flowers and looks so extra sweet and nervous, and gloria melts

her blue eyes are so sparkly and tender when she sees gloria, and she’s breathless at the sight of her

gloria’s stomach flutters, because barbie looks so pretty… and because barbie looks at her the way gloria has always dreamed of being looked at

they go on their date—barbie has pulled some strings with some people in the village and has arranged a moonlight picnic with fresh berries and warm chocolate

and after, they have the town bookshop all to themselves to browse

they pick out books for each other<33

at the end of the night barbie walks gloria back to the ship again

and this time they kiss

and thus begins their relationship

they spend the next few days and weeks with each other. swimming in the ocean and sitting on the sand, having wine on the restaurant patio, drinking sweet, tropical cocktails and eating delicious food. they trade the books they picked out for one another and read them, annotating the pages and leaving little notes for when they switch back and the other person reads it. they also trade keychains so barbie has the G one and gloria has the B one

the cruise has an event one night on the beach with an extravagant dinner and a fireworks show and they dance all night, as well as at the end, slowly, to this one song

and the cruise is coming to an end soon, and gloria will have to to leave

the night of the big event, they are in a private villa for the night, making out on the bed with barbie sitting on the edge and gloria straddling her, and there’s only the light of the moon, and barbie can’t stop thinking about gloria leaving, so she pulls away

she feels spontaneous, and unwilling to let this go. it is like a young love: reckless and unfazed by the consequences. she tells gloria to please stay. they can go to the bay area for a few days, to barbie’s house, and then barbie will drive gloria back home to LA

at first gloria only shushes her, puts her finger on barbie’s lips and wants to keep kissing her. because they’ve talked about this. there are so many things. it has not even been that long since her divorce, and what will sasha think? she is still struggling with her parents’ separation. and what about their jobs? they can’t just relocate overnight.

but barbie keeps asking. she is practically begging. and she looks so hopeful. so pleading. her hands are on gloria’s hips, over her flowy dress

and maybe gloria is drunk off this feeling. off barbie, and so she kisses her again, softer this time. more patiently

and whispers “okay” against her lips

and FINE i’ll give the titular satisfaction. gloria nudges barbie back on the bed and

“lie back for me. just relax and watch me.” whispered in barbie’s ear

and so gloria does a little striptease for her

barbie watches, eyes shiny and dazed, and her heart is like a drum inside her chest, and she’s completely enraptured, breathless and all she can think is oh my

the night seems to last forever then. they have sex and it’s warm and wet and the most sensual thing in the world, gloria thinks. she is molded to barbie’s hands, to her touch, to her mouth. they are both a mess that doesn’t stop. barbie’s soft cries of pleasure—here in the middle of the hot, humid caribbean island with sweet rum and blue water everywhere—make gloria’s heart race. and barbie’s cheeks flush and her neck arches when gloria hits this one spot inside her, and it’s addicting

gloria thinks this could be the christening of their newfound life together or something, if life was easy

but a few hours later, when she checks the time on her phone, her lockscreen with sasha in the picture stares back at her

and the answer is clear, isnt it?

when barbie wakes up, gloria is not there

and fuck it’s already almost noon

and she has this horrible feeling in her stomach

and she throws on her crewneck—which smells like gloria because she has spent all these weeks wearing it—and some shorts, running outside only to see-

that the cruise ship is now gone

but… maybe gloria is still around… maybe she is somewhere around the island, and will come back, right? she said yes to barbie after all

barbie picks up the book with all of gloria’s little notes inside

and when she opens it up she sees there’s another one, in a different-colored ink, which means it was made later, and it says–

“I’m sorry.”

and barbie crumbles

and you always like to think love is enough. the prevailing force that drives everything to an end, to completion, and that you’ll find your way back to each other. don’t you?

but a lot of the times… is it really? and will you ever?

gloria gets back home. and a few days later, sasha makes a comment. in passing, really. super offhanded. she points to the postcard on the fridge, and says

“who’s barbie?”

it’s innocent, but gloria has not stopped thinking about her. this whole time. she probably will not, ever, she thinks

“oh.” she responds, and the B letter keychain sits heavy in her pocket, like it’s burning a hole right through her.

“a friend.” one day she will have to pick up the book barbie annotated for her. she will have to admit barbie was so real for her

“she was just a friend.”

why did this turn out so much more sad than i thought…
