I just watched the Baymax! series and it is one of the most wholesome things ever I love it so much!! The sweet wholesome-ness, the diversity, inclusiveness, the open conversations about periods & emotions, the trans guy buying pads, the queer characters, the cats, the animation- all of it!

Head empty no thoughts only the profound closure I got from the Baymax! Series in seeing Hiro living his life happy and comfortable after the events of BH6

something that's really interesting to me about the Baymax! show is how many people connect to it so deeply. and I think that's because it's wish-fulfillment at it's most wholesome. i think everyone can remember a time of their life when they needed a squishy robot to listen to them, take them and their problems seriously, and make a careful and caring plan to help. someone to say: "you're having a problem and i will make sure you're going to be ok." we all need a hug and a lollipop sometimes and that's why Baymax! is so good. (Just me getting emotional over an animated robot.)

for all the people getting back into or watching bh6 for the first time: there is a 2d animated series! disney was HORRIBLE about advertising this show and it sorta ended up...well it got cancelled to put it as simply as possible.
it's not perfect but if you're interested in bh6 it's very worth watching!! additionally: honey lemon is coded as bi, gogo as a lesbian, and wasabi as gay in multiple episodes. there's also implications of honey lemon and gogo being together! and there's some original characters who are gaycoded as well (globby and felony carl; globby starts out as a villain but he's the best ever i promise)
for the tadashi lovers, he appears in flashbacks in a few episodes as well!
happy watching <3

one of my favorite takes from people who think the baymax episode centred around menstruation is inherently bad is that exposing kids to the concept of periods is “taking away their childhood” but they also want to say that menstruation is supposed to be taken seriously and shouldn’t be a lighthearted topic in a children’s show
it’s important for kids to understand the concept of menstruation, because as baymax says in the show, it’s biology! it’s natural! and it prevents kids from being horrified or shocked when they get their first periods because they weren’t educated on the topic! and arguably the best way to talk to children about menstruation is by having a beloved cartoon character explain it to them in a way that doesn’t characterize it as weird or unnatural

i just realized that since big hero 6 takes place in 2032, if it was real hiro's parents just recently died or would soon because they died when he was 3 and he would be turning 4 in 2022
let's not think about the 2019-2022 pandemic going on
let's not think about how such a pandemic causing his parents' death would make Tadashi grow up to want to provide better free universal healthcare and lead him to majoring in engineering to create a "personal healthcare companion"
Additionally: Robots are relatively bad disease vectors, so can switch between patients without infecting new people (courtesy of @mycomancy)
let's not think about how Cass relies on her cafe to provide for her family and that maybe she was so unwilling to close in Baymax! was because there was a time when it had to be closed and it was difficult to take care of a 3 year old and 10 year old
let's not think about how they are canonically a low-income partially poc family (reasoning: hiro received a full grant instead of full scholarship (honestly he probably got both and used the scholarship money for his projects); grants are for low income students.)

All of the Big Hero 6 team is autistic. Every one of them and here’s why:
Hiro: very gifted, special interest in robots, unskilled with social interaction, awesome memory, eye for detail.
Wasabi: Obsessed with order, cleanliness, and routine, gets upset when those things are violated. He’s also very very organized.
Honey Lemon: this one’s a stretch but she’s very empathetic, obsessed with anything cute, isn’t the greatest at boundaries. High masking but I think her bubbly and outgoing personality is actually genuine.
Baymax: he IS a robot but he also sucks at sarcasm and he’s very literal. He also just absolutely cannot read a room.
Gogo: antisocial, loves her personal space, doesn’t do physical contact, monotone, constantly chewing gum+blowing bubbles as a stim.
Fred: comics as a special interest, gets into very awkward social situations a LOT, his jokes usually come at exactly the wrong time, he also cannot be trusted with whistles because he will use them nonstop and that’s probably a stim.

Episode 3 of Baymax is SO important for all of the reasons that people a lot smarter and more articulate than me have been saying, but i also want to mention it’s absolutely hilarious and I want to consensually kiss on the mouth whoever came up with the concept of Baymax in the menstrual health aisle. The double meaning period joke was corny but did in fact have me laugh out loud. Hats off to all who worked on ‘Sofia’
