Summary: Lando starts dating y/n, and despite his red flags, y/n loves him. Lando's not going to let her listen to anyone who tries to get in the way. What do they know?

Lando wasn't always like this. At least not in his head. He'd watched others speak to y/n and tell her to be careful, to not jump into the relationship head first.

He's only relieved she didn't listen.

By the end of the first 2 weeks he'd got her away from her meddling friends and to Monaco. They're thankfully entirely out the picture after an argument which she spend defending him, then in tears she cuddled up to him while saying she didn't understand and that they just didn't know him like she does.

It's not as if Lando doesn't love her, in fact he loves her so much he doesn't want anyone else involved. Y/n is the centre of his world and he doesn't want anyone to threaten that.

"Baby, I know it's hot. But you can't walk around the paddock like that." Lando states with a frown as he sees her choice of shorts which very nearly show the apex of her thigh and a bralette.

"Really?" Y/n mumbles looking down then sighing.

"You know I just want to protect you...not everyone is going to look at you and think nice thoughts like me...I'd love to see you walk out like that, if I knew other people wouldn't judge you for it." He also hates the thought of any other many seeing more of her body if he can help it.

"I know. I'll change." Y/n smiles lightly genuinely believing that Lando is just protecting her.

Y/n changes into a light summer maxi dress, it might show some of her chest, but Lando will compromise that and maybe he can get her in a jacket later.

"I love this dress. You look beautiful." Lando smiles gently kissing her before he checks the time and sighs. "Time to get going."

Lando and y/n walk through the paddock, Lando keeping a tight hold on y/n and walking with her almost pressed against him. His body very much blocking largely blocking the view of y/n from the front as they walk.

He always wants her close and he always wants to hide her as much from cameras, fans, other team personnel and especially the media.

There's been a few unappreciated comments saying y/n is out of Lando's league or she's not his type by the likes of Alex and George. Not meaning any harm in saying it, but Lando would've liked to throttle them both for the comments. Then there's fans online, and actually they do talk about y/n in such a vulgar way that Lando wants to genuinely protect her from them.

"Lando." Zak greets then leaning around to smile at y/n who is smiling slightly peaking out from behind her boyfriend. "Hi, y/n."

"Hi, Zak." Y/n smiles stepping out a little while Lando clears her throat and kicks into a conversation about the weekend.

Lando won't fault y/n for talking very briefly with Zak. He's not even very fond of her talking to Oscar or Jon unless she's feeling entirely rude for ignoring them. But really he tries to minimise her interactions with anyone else in the entire paddock. Most of the paddock just assume she's quiet.

"Right, we're just getting to my room." Lando states at the end of the conversation when Zak asks what they're doing first. He shifts his hands from holding hers to holding her waist as he pulls her in front of him.

As soon as they get to his drivers room Lando sighs pulling her back into himself and kissing her neck.

"Alright, baby. Where do you want to place yourself for the day?" Lando asks while he smirks a little at her.

"I don't know. Where do you want me?"

"You can just stay in here if you'd like. Out the way so you're not getting trampled by crowds or bothered by anyone." Lando states watching her try to hide her disappointment that he is suggesting she just stay in the unit. "I'll come back and get you later when I've got the seat fitting in the garage. Ok?"

"Ok." Y/n nods, smiling when he kisses her.

"You ok?"

"Yeah. I'm good." Y/n confirms then swallowing. "Thursdays always good quickly."

Lando nods stroking his thumb over her waist for a moment, his gaze almost burning through her.

"You know I'd bring you out to watch us do all the media, but everyone is rushing around and getting in the way and I don't want you getting hurt. Especially with fans, they might try to hassle you and I don't want that. Not after the last time."

The last time being when some fans decided to tell her exactly what they'd do in order to treat her better than Lando does. In ways that had them thrown out and y/n in tears. It worked perfectly into Lando's hands for her latching onto him for safety, but he was too caught up in his rage and doing everything to have the fans ban for what they said. He only noticed after he'd calmed down that y/n had been desperately holding onto him.

Some fans really don't like Lando, and y/n is just collateral damage of that dislike. Plus she's gorgeous and Lando is more than aware he can't let her slip out his grasp. That's why he is so protective of her the way he is.

Lando smiles as he lifts y/n up and puts her into the cockpit of the car and then pushes his helmet down over her head.

She changed into some borrowed joggers and a McLaren t-shirt since she couldn't get into the cockpit wearing her dress and Lando is definitely not mad about seeing her in a number 4 McLaren top and much more covered up.

"How do I look?" Y/n grins through the helmet making Lando smile down at her.

"You look amazing. As always." Lando states only for Will to appear moving to talk to him and catching his attention from y/n momentarily.

Y/n ends up pulling his helmet off and just watching him talk in a pretty intense conversation. It actually goes on a while and a mechanic ends up noticing her looking a little stranded in the cockpit.

"I can help you, love." A mechanic states making the rest of the mechanics grimace since they know not to cross such a line when it comes to y/n.

"Oh, thanks." Y/n smiles but as soon as she begins to shift, Lando has paused his conversation and is looking at the mechanic.

"I got her mate. Thanks." Lando states and wisely the mechanics reads his tone and expression enough to know to back off. Usually Lando is never so seriously or cold towards them but he draws the line with y/n. "Come on baby."

Y/n resists the urge to send a sympathetic but grateful smile to the man and instead just focuses on standing up and being lifted out with the help of Lando before she is placed on the ground.

"You ok?" Lando asks making her smile and nod then kissing him softly.

"Yeah, I'm ok." Y/n nods before Lando flicks his gaze, presumably to the mechanic but she just smiles at him. Her hands sliding around his waist as she hugs him.

Y/n isn't entirely stupid, she knows Lando might be a little more jealous and possessive than other men. But she doesn't really think there's anything wrong with that. Lando is the way he is because he loves her.

"Alright, come on baby." Lando mumbles patting her tummy where his hand had been keeping her pressed back against himself, making sure he had her closely kept pressed to him.

Lando guides her through the garage then switching her to her usual spot somewhat to the side but behind him as he links their hands.

"Are you hungry?" Lando asks making her nod a little. "Go up to my room. I grab us something."

Y/n moves up to his room mumbling hi's and how are you's to staff as she passes, never wanting to come across as rude.

When Lando appears he places down a poke bowl which is one of his go-to meals and she's always more than happy to just stick to his diet.

"I like seeing you in my clothes. Especially in my number." Lando comments suddenly once they finish eating making her smile and look up at him. "I would just always have you in my clothes if I could."

"I like wearing your clothes...even if they're a little baggy on me."

"You look beautiful in baggy clothes." Lando states with a small smirk then holding out his hand for her to take which she doesn't hesitate to take and allow him to guide her over. "But I do like what's underneath the most."

"But what if someone walks in?" Y/n mumbles then swallowing as he pulls her down.

Lando's been hard since he had her pressed against her after he got her out the car. He's already wait for them to eat, but he wants her now and thankfully y/n is always compliant.

You're really just going to give them what they want?" Lando questions then scoffing as he steps back. "If you don't want to be with me just say rather than trying to put it into others."

"N-no. I want to be with you. They're wrong. I just want to prove it to them. I want to tell them." Y/n panics trying to move closer.

"If they don't support us then why do you even care about them. Baby, if your mum cared then she wouldn't upset you and make you cry because you're in a safe and happy relationship."

"You're right. You-you're right." Y/n nods feeling her heart thump in her chest.

"Why would you even want to talk to you mum if she's going to be as bad as them? What kind of mum is that unsupportive?" Lando questions making y/n blink a couple times, tears gathering in her eyes and Lando sighs. "Baby, how many times do I have to tell you? All these people they're just jealous that you're happy and they're trying to ruin this?

"I know. I was just thinking about going home. But I told my mum I'd talk to you and you're right." Y/n states then swallowing thickly while Lando sighs gently at her. "I'm sorry. I think they mean it from a good place."

"You wouldn't be upset if they meant it from a good place." Lando sighs softly as he moves closer to her and gently pulls her closer. "I love you, I'm just sick of people thinking they know anything."

Y/n nods then smiling as she loops her hands around the back of his neck.

"I just need you." Y/n smiles then sighing. "Anyway, now you're back. How was your dinner?"

Lando knows y/n is locked in. She's really just dismissed her own mother in favour of him and she's still looking at him with absolute adoration.

He still doesn't want anyone thinking they have a chance so he's not going to chance how he is with her and really he's not going to stop till he's cut everyone who poses a threat out of her life. Family, friends or not.

Y/n is gonna be all his. At any cost to herself or the other people who love her.

and like yeah, you're only on set for like 1 day, and you managed to follow dom on instagram but like sorta forgot about him inbetween filming and release time?? like you both got busy and just, whatever, but then the movie comes out and at first seems like it's just gonna be any other movie, you still post pictures from set on your instagram and celebrate it, and, for the first time since meeting him, dom comments on your post "so much fun, if you're ever around my way, text me" and you're like ⁉️

and you shoot off a dm at him, sorta like "hey i was finally able to watch the whole movie and you did really good" and he texts back like "aw thanks, that's really sweet" and you ask "back then, you lived in massachusetts, where are you now?" and he says "i'm in philly right now for school, but i'm taking spring semester off, so i'll probably go back to jersey with my mom"

and you start talking like every day then, now that the door is open you can't stop, he's always sending you memes and telling stories, and you send him memes about HIM as you watch him become the new it boy (and maybe you're a little jealous bc he was YOUR boy first, he was YOUR little secret, but not so much anymore), and THEN the movie starts to get acclaim?? and it looks like it might be something more than some movie you made a few years ago for a single day?? it's turning into something bigger than that?? all your friends at uni knew that you were in the movie and had gone and seen it and teased you about the kiss, but now you're getting stopped by strangers on the way to lecture and asked about the movie?? like wtf!!

and you and dom are steady texting every day like "DUDE" "DUDE I KNOW", and it starts getting awards buzz, all the best actor and best supporting actress and breakthrough actor and everything is WILD, and you're always texting him to congratulate him winning this award or that award, and you slowly start to realize. oh shit i have a crush on him. oh fuck i'm whipped for this guy.

and the day the oscars nominees are announced, you're in lecture, and your phone starts ringing and yelling at you, and your lecturer is like "do you need to take that?" and you sorta laugh "no, whatever it is, it can wait..." and you finally dig your phone out of your bag and see it's dom wanting to video call?? which doesn't happen often, for as famous of an actor as he is now, he hates seeing himself on camera and even if you do video call, his camera is off most the time, so for HIM to initiate a video call is VERY bizarre "... actually, sir, i do need to take this, i'm sorry"

and you go in the hall and answer the call, and dom is yknow DOM, messy frizzy hair and his shirt on backwards and he's frantic, and you're like "did you just wake up, what's going on??" and he says "have you seen yet?!" "seen what??" "jesus christ, i can't fucking believe this—" "dominic, what's going on?" "holdovers has been nominated for best picture at the oscars"

and you black out for a second and snap back in and you're like "we're WHAT"

and dom says "what're you doing on march 10th?? can you come to the oscars?? do you even want to??" "yeah i'd love to, but i-i need to get to LA, and i need a dress, and i need a date—" "how about me? i'll take you"

and when you reunite in los angeles for the oscars, it's the first time you've seen him in the flesh in like nearly 2 years, but you run to him and hug him, and he hugs you back, and it's such a happy moment and you can't believe that this is your life

and all night, people are complimenting your dress and your hair and makeup, and dom won't stop trying to get people to pay attention to you, he's in a little interview on the carpet and he's asked who his date is, and he grabs you by the hips "my wonderful costar, she played elise in the movie" and everybody has the same reaction, they hear your character's name and then stare at you for a second until it clicks "oh! you did so good in the movie!!"

and dom is so nervous and anxious all night, he sorta joked "i know we won't win, there's no shot in hell, oppenheimer's gonna win, so why am i nervous??" and you hold his shaking hands in yours and try to calm him as much as possible, but cameras catch you holding hands and the way he whispers in your ear to talk to you, and like HALFWAY through the show, your friends sends you a link to a variety article that mentions the best dressed at the awards, and dom is on there, and the little text blurb under his picture says "sessa is attending the show with his girlfriend and costar" and your friend is like "GIRLFRIEND??" and you're like "wait" and apparently everybody online has mistaken your physical closeness for a relationship, and you show dom during a commercial break just to be like "oh haha look at this, they think we're dating"

and he hits you with the "are we not?" "what do you mean 'are we not'?" "i mean, i thought... i thought we've been dating for a while. i've been telling people all night that you're my girl" and you shiver with delight at how casually he says his girl, but like "you thought... well, when would we have started dating?" "you remember a few months ago, the conversation we had about how, like, i'm bad at relationships and you don't like commitment, and i said i'd try to be better and you said you'd try to commit to someone? i thought that was us agreeing to start dating"

and like shit yeah you DO remember that conversation, it was like 3am and you were on facetime for HOURS that night and you're like "oh! well... yeah, that can be it." and dom's like "sooo.... does that mean i can kiss you?" and it's a gentle, soft kiss, just like your first one so long ago

and that night, you reunite with paul and da'vine (who you had met in passing on set), and towards the end of the night, da'vine sends you a photo she took on her phone of you and dom, holding each other, foreheads touching, giggling together, and you hard launch your shit on instagram with that picture "we may not have won best picture, but i won best boyfriend <3"

What do you think was the turning point in Lando and Oscar's relationship?

I really want to know what other ppl think about this bc for me personally I don't think that moment has even come yet! I made this post about a landmark landoscar moment but I don't think that's been the big turning point into them going ahhh this is it, this is what our friendship is.

like I've said before in my way too many text posts, Lando has stayed thrown by the fact that Oscar doesn't even remotely fit into the Carlos and Daniel type of teammate he's used to. Lando's shown Oscar his quiet side, his fidgety side, his cocky side, his bratty side, his naughty/flirty side and all of them get the same quiet fond indulgent response from Oscar. guys like Carlos and Daniel have known exactly how to play Lando almost from day one and we get all this great content. but apart from a little bit of sass back sometimes, Oscar stays in that very passive role and the content we get from them is Oscar watching his very famous, very well-established and charismatic teammate that he's used to watching on a phone screen. occasionally we get glimpses of Prema or Alpine Oscar come out but it's very rare.

I feel like he's wanted to just get his head down this season and prove himself the way he's said he feels he needs to. he's clearly taking nothing for granted and I don't think we're going to see him start to fully relax until a good few races into 2024. Lando is F1/McLaren establishment by now and personally I think Oscar puts Lando into the same category of things that he's trying to prove himself to. that was terrible sentence structure but you get what I mean ??

(rest under a cut bc yeah I overdo it and also just my opinion so pls nobody take it seriously)

the general standard for F1 rookies is either to latch onto the personality of their teammate or show up with a persona already in place. in both cases it's because young men have crazy amounts of insecurity but are also desperate to ingratiate themselves into a group as fast as possible. Lando was kind of an exception bc he entered F1 basically as a zygote. he went from being Carlos' baby to Daniel's baby right up until the late 2022 season. but since then we've seen Lando learn how to do the flirty humor and cocky joking that pretty much all drivers use to navigate each other. Lando's not naturally as much of a cabrón as the rest of them but he's found a way to fit in that feels natural and that also tracks with his streamer/youtuber identity.

but literally NONE of that F1 rookie standard behavior fits Oscar. I was talking about this with @landofication and how Oscar's confidence and unbotheredness comes from a such genuinely harmless place - he simply doesn't perform for anyone and he doesn't fib to people even casually. he's incredibly well-raised and respectful and polite but he won't ever say things he doesn't mean. he won't talk for the sake of filling a lull in conversation AND he also won't say something controversial/opinionated if it seems unnecessary or cocky. for example !! Alpine made an absolutely wild assumption about his future without even speaking to him first and he very calmly stood up for himself and later on made a good humored joke about the drama when he signed the extension with McLaren. he's been more mature and calm than men twice and three times his age.

that kind of honesty is why it feels completely authentic when Oscar forgets the cameras are on him and he just tracks Lando's every move and laughs at all of Lando's jokes and forgets he's supposed to play a role. same with how genuinely supportive he always is of Lando even when he himself has had a bad performance. he also doesn't want to make himself being a Lando fanboy into ~hilarious media fodder~ he's just being open about respecting and really liking Lando. kind of like how he can giggle and get bashful about gay innuendo or a guy play-flirting with him (or Lando getting raunchy to make him blush) but I've genuinely never seen him bro-zone someone or play at acting gay for laughs. he can see why the flirting and raunch is funny but he doesn't get why acting gay would be funny.

and I'm not having a go at guys who do that kind of humor or saying that they're doing it offensively! I've said before that a lot of what Americans view as "gay" in non-American male friendships is extremely standard straight dude behavior everywhere else. flirting and being physical with your bros is different from flirting with women to them precisely because they won't date or have sex w their bros. there's no need for nohomo because it was never homo lol the lines are very clear. also a lot of that humor in F1 is a common survival tactic in male pro sports. like a way to have fun and bond while also knowing that cameras are aiming at you every second you're not in your driver's room or hotel room. it's way better to diffuse the tension of being constantly watched by being silly and flirty with your bros rather than trying to hold a real conversation.

but it's just not Oscar personally to initiate that stuff for laughs or to know how to pick up those jokes and play ball. just like how he's not starry-eyed about Lando as a joke! he's just genuinely got this fanboy crush he's dealing with as best he can during a high pressure rookie season. he's not bothering to try and complicate things further or push himself into Lando's existing social life.

BUT poor Lando is definitely still in the process trying to figure Oscar out. the little fixations Lando already has of his own like Oscar's name and Oscar being such a good boy who blushes at sex jokes and Oscar being so mature and patient even when Lando is fed up with filming and having a blood sugar drop are so cute to me because Lando's been slowly picking up on what Oscar genuinely likes about him and where his boundaries are. the photo of Oscar on lando.jpg with the heart caption right underneath it was unbearably vulnerable. such a tiny way to say I really like my new teammate even if I don't understand him yet.

I do however think it's driving Lando iNsAnE that Oscar has no concept of casual PDA. I'm hoping he's seen by now that Oscar isn't even like that with Lily and that it isn't at all personal. but oh my god he's so ready to be able to hug and cuddle Oscar and do everything he does with Carlos and Daniel and his pre-F1 big brothers like Max F, George and Alex. I'm all for respecting people's physical boundaries but hopefully Oscar thinks back to Lando's reaction here and let's Lando latch onto him more often.

aaaaaand that's all to say that I think we're going to have to be patient to see where Lando and Oscar land in terms of what sort of deeper friendship they have. their teammates relationship has already been tested thoroughly in just one season and it seems so solid which has obviously been first priority. but between Lando having such a full social life already and Oscar having gotten used to being by himself or socializing very privately I'm not expecting a carlando or dando type thing where they share friends or hobbies until they've gotten to know each other better individually. which in a way for me is really sweet because the amount that they already sync up and are comfortable together and share their team duties despite not having that immediate jokey rapport is just !!! I really love that. sort of how silly bubbly Lando is my beloved but quieter and more thoughtful Lando is maybe even a little bit more my beloved?

I can't do intros for shit. Do you think Ozcar's answer to Jaune's question of "Do you think we're gonna make it?" was, in part, them dodging the question? Not revealing how unsure they feel and instead choosing to comfort Jaune with "Around those campfires, did it really matter?" Do you think of that answer as a cop-out, or as a legitimate answer? Both perhaps?

oh oz absolutely thinks they’re not gonna make it. i am so sure about that.

bc the thing is, ozpin thought he’d been at war with salem for centuries, he thought he’d managed to keep her out and whittle away her influence down to almost nothing. right. his whole reason for handling the situation the way he did in v1-3 is he believed that salem wouldn’t leave the shadows, wouldn’t do anything to jeopardize her secrecy. the thing about his paranoia in seeing salem’s hand behind every grimm attack and every period of unrest or war is he had no idea what salem was capable of or how far she would go, but he believed that he did.

within the space of, like, maybe a year and a half, salem has. knocked down beacon academy, forced haven academy to close by assassinating most of its faculty, laid siege to atlas with a fleet of millions of grimm and directly caused atlas to fall, and within a few weeks of that razed vale to the ground. three of his four academies are either destroyed or defunct; two whole countries are just. Gone. it’s been a year and a half!

he. underestimated. really really badly, he underestimated salem and for him this past year has been a harrowing journey of discovering exactly how badly he underestimated her. a year and a half and they’ve gone from “unprecedented era of peaceful prosperity” to desperate last stand. oz hasn’t been in such dire straits since the final battle of the great war when he resorted to using two relics to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, and now one of those is within salem’s reach, and if they take the sword out of its vault that’s just one step closer to salem getting her hands on it.

like, oscar annihilated her millions of grimm in atlas and a few weeks later she turned around and flattened vale.

this is not a fight they can win. and i think oz is painfully aware of that. (the whole point is that the only way out is through negotiation. they have to stop fighting her and start talking to her.)

but i also think he meant “around that campfire, did it matter?” very genuinely because he found his hope again when he returned in atlas, and the situation being hopeless has no bearing on how he chooses to look at it or how he chooses to act. so things are very very bad but oz is, emotionally, in a much better place now than he was at the beginning of the story when things appeared to be okay. it’s the next step from “fear isn’t worthy of our concern”

alright so i mentioned this in my stocking stuffers headcanon but we're gonna go in more depth here

rudy's christmas wishlist is really just legos

but like big, expensive lego sets

like i said then, he always compiles a big list of sets he wants each year

this year he's obsessed with the technic/vehicle sets

he got the vespa set for his birthday so that one was crossed off the list

and now he's looking to collect all the ferrari sets

last year he nabbed the ferrari 488 gte "af course #1"

and this year he wants the ferrari daytona sp3

he really likes the technic sets because their like a harder version of the normal lego sets

plus they're a lot more durable which is important to him

he has all his lego sets lined up on shelves around his apartment

and he already has a shelf of lego vehicles

which currently includes the ferrari 488, the vespa, and the lamborghini sián fkp 37 (he bought that for himself after he got a pay raise)

and ofc once he gets all his luxury cars/racecars collected, he plans on moving onto the classic cars collection

alright so idk why this headcanon brings me so much joy but it does

but soap really really really wants a dirt bike for christmas

he rode one during a mission around summer time

and ever since then he won't stop raving about how cool it was

if we're being honest he wasn't that good at it

it gets pretty cold up in his cabin and he just wants to be able to be all warm and cozy

alright so for christmas gaz wants new headphones and a speaker

gaz just lives his life with a soundtrack in the background what can i say

he loves listening to music whenever he can

whether he's working or training or in the shower

i like to think that he used to actually have a really nice set of earbuds

and he usually keeps them in one of the pockets of his uniform

but when he fell out of that helicopter he lost his earbuds

and he was absolutely devastated too because they were so nice

but this time around he wants headphones so that he can really take advantage of the noise cancelling feature

probably not the smartest option considering he's in the military but yk what sometimes gaz just needs a break from the outside and honestly who doesn't?

he also has a really nice speaker but then soap broke it

gaz had it next to him on the couch while he was watching tv or smthing

the speaker really had no chance

this year alejandro wants a ps5

maybe this is coming sorta out of left field but i feel like alejandro is lowkey a gamer

which ik doesn't make sense since we've established he's into self care and gamers never shower

but yeah alejandro is actually super into video games

he has a lot of consoles but he didn't get the ps5 when it first came out so now he wants it

first off i think he and rudy played "a way out" together with no prior knowledge of the game

and so at the ending they were absolutely devastated

they also play overcooked a lot

and they let the other task force members play too

it's always interesting because alejandro takes it really seriously

also he's super good at super smash bros

Request from @monacosprince - tbh i’m so mad and williams for what they’re doing to logan! can you please write a fic where logan is upset and self doubting over the situation and reader helps him???

Ngl reader is going to be an angry, overprotective little girlfriend in this. If you don't like that vibe, I'm sorry but I feel like Logan needs a girlfriend who will stand up for him when he's feeling down. She's a little bit...bad-tempered shall we say. We are also going to feature bestie!Oscar being a good friend bc despite popular belief I'm sure he's there for Logan to make sure he's ok.

When it comes to dating Logan, y/n is not afraid to use her voice where Logan might try to be quiet. He's got an image as a patriotic America but he's such a soft soul and so isolated as a driver on the grid. Y/n can't help but let a more protective over him.

Y/n and Logan started dating towards the end of the season last year. She's been his main support system in giving him the confidence her gained back after losing it so much last season. He absolutely adores her and he would do anything for her. But she does a hell of a lot in return for him and he's given a lot of credit to her publicly for everything because he isn't ashamed to admit that she's genuinely that amazing to him.

"Hey, I was wondering where you'd got to." Logan smiles as y/n appears in his drivers room ahead of FP1.

"I always here when you need me." Y/n states brightly moving to kiss him. "How you feeling?"

"Good. Have you been enjoying the sun? You're warm." Logan comments making her laugh a little as he places the back of his hand to her cheek.

"Yeah, it's nice out. Before we go to Japan we should get ourselves down the the beach for a day or something." Y/n grins before Logan's trainer, Ben appears smiling at the two. "Time to go?"

"Time to go." Ben confirms making her gesture for Logan to go ahead, but he links their hands and pulls her with him as Ben leads them.

Y/n felt bad for Alex. She knows Logan has anxiety about crashing and causing damage to the car sometimes means he plays it on the safer side or if he does push himself like he wants to and it doesn't work out, then she makes sure he remembers that everyone makes mistakes. Even Max managed to give his floor a beating today.

Obviously y/n isn't involved in the debriefs and meetings following practices but James and the team need to talk with the boys about a problem.

Ben appears before Logan does and he looks like he's just been kicked in the stomach.

"What's going on?" Y/n frowns but before he can answer, Logan appears looking disheveled and like he's been trying to stop himself from crying. "Baby? What's happening?"

"Nothing. I'm tired, just want to get out of here." Logan states which raises alarms anyway because Logan is never that eager to leave. Even tired and jet lagged.

"Probably best to go back to the hotel and rest." Ben confirms making y/n's frowns deepen. They're not telling her something and she doesn't like being kept in the dark.

Logan all but rips his suit off as if it's burning him to wear it and actually he does tear his fireproofs in the rush to get them off.

Y/n has to bite her tongue to not demand an explanation. She feels like she's sort of on the verge of stomping her foot like a toddler and shouting for someone to say something. There's nothing more upsetting than seeing Logan so upset.

They finally get out and when they do, they pass Oscar who stops them to talk to his long term friend.

"Hey, mate. How's it going?" Oscar smiles, him in a good mood since it's his home race.

"Hey, sorry man. We're just heading off to the hotel. Y/n doesn't feel well." Logan lies annoyingly well, but his tone is tight and strained which makes Oscar's gaze flick to y/n.

"Sorry, you feel better y/n. I'll see you tomorrow mate." Oscar nods but Logan is already tugging her away and the questioning look on Oscar's face making her shrug in a silent conversation.

Whatever has happened, Logan doesn't want to talk about it. At least not right in this moment. In fact they get to the hotel and she's given a kiss before he mumbles that he's going to shower.

Y/n huffs sitting down with a frown before she decides to change and order room service. Which actually arrives before Logan comes out the shower. But when he does she decides to finally force it out of him, whether she has to poke him into a corner to do it.

"Logan, please tell me what's going on." Y/n pleads deciding to try the softer approach since his eyes are bloodshot and it's obvious he has been crying in the shower. He'd never want her to see it because he hates the idea of her seeing him in such a weak position. "I can't help you if you don't tell me."

"James decided to give Alex my car...they don't have the parts to repair his and he wants Alex in the race." Logan states clearing trying not to choke on his words.

"He what?" Y/n frowns actually retracting back in disgust and trying to figure out if she really just heard him wrong. "Say that again."

"Baby-"

"No. No. That's-That's not ok. What the hell?" Y/n frowns getting up and beginning to pace. "Was I watching the wrong car when I saw a driver send a Williams into the wall? I don't remember you climbing out the smashed up car."

"Baby, it's-"

"Don't you dare say this is ok. This is not ok. I-" Y/n cuts herself short about to say something that would only add to his upset which is pretty visible really. "You deserve better, Logan. They have no right to do that."

"I know. But they've done it for the better of the team. I understand. Alex is the stronger driver-"

"Alex sent his fucking car into a wall! No other team would do this. If he can't keep his car on the track knowing the team doesn't have the means to fix it. Then that is not for him to get to continue! It is not your mistake to pay for." Y/n snaps not angry at Logan but she can't contain it. She softens a little, her body unable to fight the instinct to hug him tightly. "You are worth so much more than how they treat you."

Logan sighs resting his chin on top of her head as she rests in on his chest.

"I just need you right now." Logan whispers making her close her eyes hoping to prevent tears that are building.

Y/n hates this. Right now she'd go as far to say she hates the whole team for hurting Logan like this.

"We can eat, get in bed and cuddle?" Y/n offers moving her head back to look up at the blonde. "Yeah?"

"Sounds good." He nods managing a ghost of a smile.

Logan's alarms came and went. He's awake but certainly in no rush to get out of bed, favouring lying his head on y/n's stomach while she plays with his hair.

"Would you stay with me if I lose my seat before the end of the season?" Logan asks breaking the peaceful but cold silence between them.

"Don't even talk like that." Y/n mutters trying to keep her voice void of the anger that it's verging on the edge of. "You are not going to lose your seat before the end of the season and even if you did-which is not going to happen. I would never leave you because of it...I would never leave you if you gave me the choice. Full stop."

Logan only responds by turning his head to hide his face against her skin.

"Logan..." Y/n tries, swallowing thickly at the knowledge he's hurting in such a way.

She tried not to think much of him deciding he doesn't need to be in any rush to get to the paddock. But he did reach over and put his phone onto do not disturb after the alarm and it seemed to starting going crazy. People had definitely tried to call, he was meant to be in.

"We can't stay here forever." Y/n whispers rubbing her hand through his hair but he doesn't reply.

So instead of pushing, she just remains quiet and gives him the time she knows he's silently asking for.

After another 15 minutes of just playing with his hair. She keeps herself quiet when he finally shifts up and looks at her, but he quickly kisses her softly and smiles at her but it's forced.

"Are you practicing smiling with me?"

"Apparently not if you have to ask." Logan sighs then sitting up. "I just want to stay here with you."

"I know. I don't think anyone would blame you for not showing up today. Or even just saying you want to fly over to Japan."

"You think?" He asks looking slightly amused but not quite enough for it to reach his eyes.

"Well I'd understand and I'm the only one who matters here." Y/n smiles earning a small laugh. "I love your smile...don't let them ruin your smile today."

"For you, I'll keep smiling." Logan promises making her smile and move to kiss him.

And just like that they're up getting on with the day.

When they get to the paddock the level of support for Logan is overwhelming, though y/n actually had already found the support for her boyfriend online was insane. A little harsh on Alex, though maybe initially she'd felt like finding a car to run over the rebuilt F1 car and destroy the second chassis to make a point.

Logan doesn't really see Alex but y/n couldn't promise not to be slightly cold towards him.

It wasn't Alex's decision. James made the decision.

But it's Alex's crash, so she holds him somewhat at fault for this. Even if it's more on the team's completely unacceptable state of not having spare parts like the spare chassis they need.

"You're not smiling." Logan comments making y/n lift her eyebrows quickly from how deep they'd furrowed.

"Just thinking." Y/n mumbles before managing a smile at him as he relinks their hands. "I like seeing them show you all the love you. I think you needed to see that people are here for you."

Y/n doesn't know if she's spent so much of her life straining herself from punching people in the face. She'd happily use most of the Sky Sports commentators as target practice.

Her mum would scold her for such violent thoughts. Hell if Logan could read her mind then he might even try to settle her fiery urges.

She's flexed her hands more times to try and unfurl them from the tight fists she'd held them in for the better part of an hour.

She's not even been watching the screens. Only focusing on Logan while he stands with engineers.

Only once they're out of the garage when practice is when she discover fans saw her on broadcast and have duped her as Logan's "scary dog privileges" and apparently fear for Alex or James to cross her.

"Fantastic." Y/n mumbles walking around the paddock only to find herself caught in Oscar's company and he looks pretty amused.

"You look like you might be ready to knock someone down with a headbutt." Oscar comments making her hum. "How's he doing? I haven't got to talk to him?"

"Better now he knows the amount support he's getting." Y/n sighs while crossing her arms. "But he doesn't really want to be here. He'll probably leave early."

"I don't blame him. I get it, but-"

"No. It wasn't his crash to pay the price for." Y/n cuts in not standing for a second of it. "I'm sick of seeing people try to justify it. If one more person tries to say that it's understandable but not fair, I'm going to knock them down and stand on their windpipe till they're blue."

"Every time we talk I'm happier and happier that I'm on your good side." Oscar comments earning a small smile that in different circumstances would've been a laugh. "I'm glad Logan has you...It took him a long time to find you, but you perfectly balance him out. I think he needed someone who so...loyally defends him."

"People talk shit about him constantly. Then this happens...How is he supposed to stand by a team when they publicly humiliate him like this?"

Oscar only looks at her in sympathy.

"Anyway, I don't want to bring down your mood for your home race...you're looking really good out there." Y/n smiles lightly trying not to be a completely moody bitch.

"Thanks. If there's one race I want to go well, it's the home race."

"Well I have faith in your capabilities to make that happen." Y/n smiles before she swallows. "I'll be rooting for you to take pole in qualifying."

"That might be pushing it." Oscar chuckles but she shrugs and just leans over kissing his cheek with a one armed hug.

"I'll still be rooting for you, I'm going to go be a moody bitch elsewhere."

"I know Logan appreciates it."

Y/n sighs moving through the paddock frowning at cameras focusing on her and burning some holes through any sight of Sky commentators. No doubt that will be clipped and posted soon enough.

By the time she sees Logan briefly before qualifying, she finds he's with Alex.

"Hey, y/n." Alex greets seeming to try to be his usual friendly self but he's met with a cold shoulder.

"Alex."

"What y/n means is...happy birthday." Logan smiles linking their hands and squeezing hers in a push to be nicer but she only shoots a fake smile to the older man.

Alex makes a quick excuse of needing to get ready before he leaves while Logan sighs turning to her with a look that is supposed to make her feel guilty.

"I don't feel bad." Y/n states making Logan sigh.

"I know you're being protective. But you can't make Alex the enemy." Logan smiles sadly while tucking some strands behind her ear. "You know I love you...and I love that you're upset for me. But you can be nice to Alex...especially on his birthday."

"I'll consider it." Y/n murmurs earning a smile from the American since he knows she's still just being hesitant because she's upset.

"He was saying he will had to tread carefully after seeing the clips of you in practice." Logan smiles earning a small smile before he gently cups her face. "It's just one weekend."

"I know."

She hopes he's right. Though she's seen James talk about them "hoping" to have a chassis ready for Japan.

But that's a problem for another day.

"How are you feeling?" Y/n asks making Logan look at her for a moment.

It reads on his face. He can paint a smile on but damage goes deeper than skin deep.

"It still hurts. But it's my hurt to feel."

"You know asking me not to hurt for you is like asking me to just stop caring."

This decision is damaging to the team. It's damaging to Logan's confidence. If Alex fails to get even 1 point, it's damaging to his reputation. But for y/n, she knows that regardless of what's said, and regardless of how James might try. This is going to stick with Logan possibly long after he's out of the team.

Y/n hates that someone has the power to hurt him like that and did hurt him like that. James used that power and swung it like an axe into Logan's side, whether he wanted to or not that's exactly the damage that's been done. But the only thing y/n hates more than that, is she hates that she can't fix it.

"I'll try to be better." Y/n sighs making him smile lightly and pat her.

"That's all I ask."

Y/n grunts a little still not being able to stop herself from voicing her disapproval.

"I love you." Logan smiles lightly then gently kissing her.

"I love you too."

"Alright, let's get moving. And please try not to look like you might bite James' ear off if he gets too close."

"No promises that I won't bite his ear off if he gets too close. At least if I look like I'm going to do it, he'll not risk coming too close to me."

I've spent a long, long while trying to find anything about Quentin Dean and her relationship with Elvis during making of Stay Away Joe (that's why I took so long so answer you) - from Youtube videos to movie magazines articles, but unfortunately I still haven't.

Strangely, Quentin Dean retired pretty quick from Hollywood, after only 4 movies done and very few one-episode appearances in some Western TV shows.

Her acting career (TV and movies) lasted from 1967 to 1969, two years, and it's just bizarre since she was nominated for a Golden Globe Awards for Best Supporting Actress due to her first role on the big screen on the Oscar winner movie (Best Picture) 'In the Heat of the Night' (1967). This movie was released the same year Quentin filmed Stay Away Joe with Elvis (filmed from October 9 to November 27, 1967, released on March 8, 1968).

Curiously enough, other than the movies, one of the few TV shows Quentin worked on was The Virginian, created by - guess who! - Charles Marquis Warren, director/producer/screenwriter of Charro! (1969 *updated for minor correction on date -- 'Charro!' was filmed during July and August of 1968 and released in 1969*). Quentin appeared in only one episode of that show, but even so, why would she give up her acting career so fast? She surely had good network in Hollywood... that's just weird. What's worse is that it seems she rarely gave interviews during her acting career and/or denied interviews after retiring from Hollywood, which would explain why her interviews are so hard to find.

I really tried to find any interview with her, and there must be some, but with a career as short-lived as hers the journalists' interest for details on her acting career is not that big, therefore there aren't modern articles online (that I have put my eyes on) and the existing vintage 60s printed ones weren't scanned and shared online so far, I suppose. 😣 What a shame!

I am confident (or just hopeful) there must be some kind of information concerning her work relationship with EP in books specifically dealing with Stay Away Joe making of, such as "Elvis: Behind The Scenes Speedway & Stay Away Joe" by Erik Lorentzen. I haven't read this book yet, unfortunately. I'm so sorry for not being helpful for now, dear. I tried. I wish I knew something. :( If any friend reading this have already read this book and know something helpful, please, feel free to share what you know with our community. ♥

Well, since we're talking about it already, if you ask me I'd say Elvis and Quentin had a pretty good professional relationship but not as close as Elvis and some of his other leading ladies had. This is pure speculation on my part, but I have a reason to think so. This if one of the movies Elvis did (this one and 'Kissin' Cousins', maybe a few others too, not sure) that Priscilla -- as well as some of the wives from the Memphis Mafia guys -- was right there watching Elvis work in the filming set. I'm not implying Elvis would have had any intimate relationship with Quentin if Priscilla hadn't been there on the filming set or anything but, speaking on friendship matters, it makes sense Elvis would have spent more of his time on set, during breaks from filming, with his gang than with the other actors. Not sure but if so, Quentin wouldn't have many opportunities to get better acquaintance of him, I guess she wouldn't have much to say about him as a person because of this.

What I can say is: below is a "behind the scenes" picture [on the right], not a publicity shot for what I've read. Judging from their faces, Elvis and Quentin had fun working together. ✨ I know, I know... this is not specific but this is what I can share for now.

I'm gonna keep trying to find some information about Quentin's career, and hopefully on her accounts over working in Stay Away Joe. I really wish I could understand why her acting career was so short and what she has done afterwards in her life, so maybe in interviews she shared something about it.

Stay Away Joe didn't catch my heart at first but little by little it grew on me. Now it is one of my favorite Elvis movies, even tho I still think it's an extremely noisy and a little messy-looking movie too. LOL. Even so it's a good movie... here and there I re-watch it. ♥

honestly i do think that "analytical" and "focused" describe him very succinctly — these are words you'll find that he and many others have described him by in real life — it's maybe just a matter of understanding what that means for him and not equating either trait to the sum of his personality. to me this is not a bad thing because i genuinely enjoy athletes who are considered analytical and boring (which i've also reclaimed as a term of endearment now. i'll gladly take a boring dude if it means he doesn't like playing golf!) so i think he fits that archetype well, it's just that he's obviously more than that and thus his personality is endearing to people because he has "unexpected" quirks that betray the occasional assumption of his one-dimensionality.

here are a few direct quotes from people around him:

BROWN: "He's very mature, he's very focused and he’s very technical." STELLA: "There is no external noise in his brain. He doesn’t dissipate or dilute his talent into things that are not useful or functional, and that was apparent to us relatively early on." STALLARD: "Everything is meaningful. I’m not sure I’ve met that many [drivers] who I would describe as calm and intense." WEBBER: "He’s a Prost, mate. He’s such a thinker and so calm. At first I thought I needed to inject a bit of urgency in him, but actually no, he’s got his own frequency. That’s just where he is."

i would be curious to hear more about why you don't get that vibe from him so i could elaborate more in that direction, would you say it's because he doesn't come across that way in off-track media that mclaren posts of him and lando? i'd argue that at least on-track his being analytical, focused, unflappable, and most of all ~adaptable~ (if you listen to any commentator talk about him you'll quickly hear that this is people's favorite word for him) is what made oscar thrive at the junior level when he was a rookie in both f3/f2, and what's helped him deliver the rookie campaign he's managed so far with mclaren — of course the extensive testing mileage with the a521 helped immensely with this acclimatization but that was a completely different car with different regs, and more impressive to me is not only that he managed to be decent "as a rookie" in an on-average midfield car and didn't commit egregious mistakes when the mcl60 was a backmarker tractor with constant reliability issues but also that he quickly stepped up alongside lando once the aero upgrades came along and immediately recalibrated his expectations from "maybe points if we're lucky" to "podiums whenever possible." that's a bigger mental feat than it seems and definitely speaks to his analytical nature; another example of his inherent reflectiveness is his somewhat subdued reaction to getting his first podium in suzuka because he was more concentrated on his pace deficit to lando and overall tyre-management issues than the superficial milestone of a podium. similar to tom sarcastically going "i can hear that you're excited..." after quali that weekend and oscar quipping back "that's as excited as i get for second place!"

maybe "focused" is difficult to qualify as a personality trait but i'd say it manifests largely in his calmness, especially when you consider the high-adrenaline nature of racing and the effusiveness other drivers on the grid are prone to displaying. how oscar strikes me as is that he's self-critical while still managing requisite internal belief and optimism, which stella and others have spoken highly of and credited for driving forward his rapid development curve over the course of a weekend, especially at new race tracks. maybe you're asking about "analytical" in the context of relationship dynamics in fic so feel free to correct me there (AND ALSO APOLOGIES FOR THIS UNGODLY SPIEL), but another great quote is andrea in his latest btg appearance where he says this of oscar:

 "[What impressed us is] his awareness of what the opportunities are, even before he looks at an overlay or looks at any telemetry. He kind of has this capacity to self-recognize where there is more to come from either himself or from the car, and this is not so obvious. I know drivers that can be fast, but they kind of definitely need external support as to see what is possible. [...] He has a large capability from a self-awareness point of view, and then he has this capacity to then drive according to the opportunity identified, which for me is the definition of talent."

in terms of his media personality, you'll commonly see people online say that oscar is a talkative kimi or that he's winning the idgaf war etc. and i think maybe people (not fic writers but like Guys On Reddit) tend to extrapolate a bit too much from his "mentality" and are like this is why he's going to be the next wdc and lando will become washed which is literally absurd and insane and i'm not even going to entertain that with a ten-foot pole. but i think how i'd describe oscar is that he's very intentional in disseminating his image in a highly specific "everything is a product of cringe culture" gen-z way — he knows exactly how he comes across to the camera or how people perceive his tweets online and is willing to play into the meme when he thinks it'll benefit him, for ex. how he knew the camera was on him during the jetpack guy moment and consciously made that face to incite some kind of reaction. obviously oscar isn't wholly preoccupied with making people like him and isn't going to be as loud and rambunctious as a character like dr3, but he's capable of being "silly" and making jokes because he does like being perceived as funny and will engage in low-effort banter or make his drs tweets and post a 240p reaction gif of the jetpack meme because he enjoys social media virality to some degree. like i'm sure the crb debacle was a stressful time for him but another part of him was like "oh sweet more followers" LOL... maybe because of that it feels like there's a dichotomy between his "silly" self who makes bottoming jokes in mclaren youtube videos and who giggles at everything lando says and then his more focused, technically-oriented side, but imo there is very much a positive relationship between these facets of him. i'd say that because he is generally so analytical and calm he therefore has the mental capacity to be introspective in an actionable manner and improve on his weaknesses without getting emotionally carried away, and then in social settings this also allows him to live in the moment and take things less seriously and not overreact to people's opinions of him. if that makes sense...

also for bonus maxf/renault acad lore purposes: here is the insane mia quote about them that maybe explains more of his "ruthless" focus... i feel like sometimes it sounds weird when people call him that because being ruthless is essentially associated with being cruel or lacking empathy but to me oscar's ruthlessness is entirely inward and not a marker of his EQ or social awareness, just a reflection of how effectively he self-motivates and pushes himself:

"Consistency on track is based on how stable you are off track. still remember how everyone lost their minds when they saw dom w a tattoo… like we did NOT know if that was part of the design from the sheer red shirt… need him to wear more sheer shirts…. oscar’s …. don’t let me down … ALSO? can we just talk about how the tattoo actually looks really cool and detailed? and that out of any design he couldve picked, he chose a treehouse!!

seeing the sheer red shirt was WILD bc at first i wasn't sure?? if it was sheer?? i was like "oh that's a very odd print on this shirt, it's gonna be hidden by his jacket??" and then i was looking closer and i noticed it got more opaque at a fold near his hip where the shirt was tucked in and i was like ‼️ and so the next thought i had was.... "a patterned sheer shirt??" and then i was talking to cassie and she was like "dude you're dumb that's a tattoo on his stomach"

and THEN it was confirmed by the film indie spirit fit bc like. that was NOT a print on the red shirt, it's obviously Just There On His Body

unfortunately he went with a very classic look for the oscars (which like the dress code was specified as white tie for men, so he kinda didn't have a choice, there's only so much variety with white tie) AND HE LOOKS HANDSOME LIKE A PROPER MOVIE STAR but no tat 😔 hoping for a pic to come out from the afterparty where he pulls a tom blyth and takes off his jacket and tie and shirt to show his slutty lil white undershirt and you can spot the tat thru the thin fabric of his wife pleaser (and of course his sunnies and maybe a cigarette if we're lucky)

but yeah!!! the tat looks really detailed and awesome!! obviously a lot of thought and care went into it, which makes me wonder what it means?? bc again not every tattoo has meaning, but (as far as we know) its his first and only tat, so i wonder 🤔 it's not impossible that there's no meaning behind it, bc i myself am planning on getting a tattoo of the mandible of a paleoanthropological specimen and that would be my first tat and it has no meaning past "heeheehoohoo primitive human"
