TikTok Trend
Beautiful decides to take part in a TikTok Trend with Joel. A New in Town drabble.
Tumblr media
^We're borrowing Mr. Ben for a late-40s Joel, OK? I desperately need more gifs of Pedro's Joel from that era, I'm too reliant on other characters and actual Pedro gifs for these fics GIVE ME SOMETHING PLEASE
Pairing: Joel Miller x Female Reader from New in Town
Warnings: Not much! Age gap but not the focus of the fic (reader is 36, Joel is 48). No use of Y/N. Minors DNI 18+ only.
Length: 1.4k
A/N: I got stuck thinking earlier how Joel would react to the "call your boyfriend your husband" trend and this is how I think it'd go. This is set about 3 months before the last chapter of New in Town. This can be read as a stand alone fic with the understanding that reader is Sarah's best friend and Joel and Reader have an established relationship of about a year.
“So what’s this for again?” Joel asked as he sat down at the picnic table in the park.
“It’s a TikTok challenge,” you said, settling in beside him. Joel opened the paper bag the two of you had just gotten from a food truck and started taking out the tacos, putting some in front of you and him.
“Right,” he said. “And… I’m sorry, baby, but what’s the point?”
You laughed as you set your phone against your water bottle so it was propped up and ready to film.
“There isn’t really one, I guess,” you said. “It’s just a fun little video you make and then share. Those interns I have until May are all about it, they were showing me some of theirs the other day. Figure if I work in marketing, I gotta keep up with the trends!”
Joel smiled a little.
“So this is the kind of shit Sarah does, huh?”
“Yeah, she does,” you laughed again. “Her and the interns made one for the company social page the other day, actually.”
“Can I see?” He asked, interest suddenly piqued.
“Sure,” you picked your phone back up and found your company’s TikTok, scrolling to the video and handing it off to Joel.
“We work in marketing, of course we over analyze every ad we see,” Sarah said through your phone, a small smile on Joel’s face as he watched.
It made you smile, too. One of the fun parts about being in the strange middle ground between your boyfriend’s and best friend’s ages was serving as a bit of a translator between them. Joel still didn’t quite get TikTok. Sarah didn’t understand why her dad refused to go all in on streaming and still had cable. You, at least, could see both sides.
But this TikTok effort had nothing to do with Sarah. You did try to keep up with the trends on social media to better craft campaigns and content - capitalizing on trends meant that you had to move quick and you couldn’t afford to be out of touch - but your personal TikTok account was mostly empty. It was pretty private, anyway, shared with only a few close friends like Sarah and Maria. All it had were a few reposts of things you liked, some montages of video snippets from you and Joel’s first vacation together, that sort of thing.
“You should do some of the trends!” Jason, one of your interns, said earlier that day.
“Just being in the loop on trends is plenty for me,” you waved him off but smiled. “I don’t need to participate.”
“But it’s fun!” Kenzie, your other intern said. “They’re not all dances and stuff, you know…”
“I know,” you said. “But it’s just not what I want to spend a lot of time doing is all.”
“Some don’t take much time,” she said, opening her phone and scrolling for a second. “Here, this one’s easy. You said you have a boyfriend, right?”
“I do…”
“Cool,” she said. “So all you do is record yourself making a video where you call your boyfriend your husband, just to see how he reacts. No crazy edits or anything, it’s super easy.”
You caved after some light convincing and came up with a plan to get Joel in front of the camera. You told him it was a spicy food challenge, just to see which of you handled the heat better and, while you knew he wouldn’t really get the point, you knew he’d be supportive. He always was.
But there was something about this trend in particular that made you a little nervous. It’s not like the two of you hadn’t discussed marriage. You’d been together a year now, you’d just moved into his house. It had definitely come up. But it had come up in the way that far off things do, something that might happen some day if things fell into place in just the right way. You didn’t want to push it, didn’t want him to feel rushed or obligated, especially since you’d only been cohabitating about a month. Bringing up marriage - even like this - made you nervous.
“OK I think I get it,” Joel handed you your phone back after watching Sarah’s video twice. “But we’re not doin’ that same thing, right?”
“Nope,” you said. “We’re going to see who handles the spice better.”
“Think we both know which one of us is gonna win that one, Beautiful,” he teased, nuzzling his nose against your temple before kissing your cheek. “Us southern men are made of sterner stuff…”
“Yeah yeah,” you rolled your eyes but smiled, leaning close to him. “We’ll just see about that.”
You set your phone up to record again, propping it against your water bottle.
“Here, you gotta get in close because the TikTok format is vertical,” you said and Joel adjusted so you were half beside and half in front of him, his arm going around your waist, hand finding your hip, thumb slipping up below your shirt to find your bare flesh above the band of your pants and brushing you slowly, sensually there. You gave him a look.
“What?” He asked, brows raised, smile barely contained.
“Don’t act all innocent,” you shook your head. “You know exactly what you’re doing…”
“C’mon,” he said. “Let’s make your little TikTik video…”
“TikTok,” you rolled your eyes but adjusted yourself, your heart pounding.
“Whatever the kids are using now,” he said. “Because the sooner we’re done the sooner I can get you home…”
“Alright, I’m going to record,” you cut him off. “Behave yourself!”
“Always do, Beautiful.”
You rolled your eyes again but took a deep breath, leaned forward and pressed record.
“Hi everyone,” you smiled, watching the recording of you and Joel as it was made on the screen. “I’m here with my husband and we’re going to do the spicy food challenge…”
“Your what?” He cut you off and you turned so you could see him a little better.
“What?”
“Did…” he paused, looking at you like he wasn’t sure if you were losing it or he was. You weren’t sure if that was good or bad. “Did you just call me your husband?”
“Yeah,” you shrugged, turning back to the camera. “Anyway, my husband and I both really love spicy food and…”
You didn’t get a chance to finish your sentence. Joel grabbed your chin almost roughly, pulling you around to face him and all but crushed his lips against yours, clutching you close, kissing you deep and hard, like he couldn’t get enough of you. When he finally let you go, you looked at him and laughed a little, watching him.
“What was that for?” You asked.
“You wanna call me your husband?” He asked, a serious look on his face. “Beautiful, we will go to the courthouse right this damn second, don’t tempt me…”
“Joel, it’s 7 p.m.,” you laughed. “The courthouse is closed.”
“Don’t care,” he said, giving you a quicker kiss this time. “C’mon, we’ll grab Sarah on the way, see if Tommy wants to meet us…”
“That’s all it takes, hm?” You teased, heart pounding but for a good reason now. “Just me slipping up and calling you my husband and you’re ready to run down the aisle?”
“Baby, I’ve been ready to run down the aisle for about a year,” he pressed his forehead to yours. “Just been waitin’ on you to catch up.”
“Well,” you kissed him softly. “I’m more than caught up. But think I’m still gonna make you ask.”
“Good luck stopping me,” he said, kissing you again, longer this time, needier, until you pulled away with a groan. “Forget this food challenge, I gotta get you home and devour you. Let’s go, wife.”
You laughed and stopped the recording on your phone, saving the video to drafts as Joel gathered up the food. You made the mental note to edit out that last part before posting, no need for the interns or Sarah to know quite that much about your sex life.
“Sorry for ruining your little video,” he said as you started back toward the car. “We can try again later, promise to actually behave myself then…”
“That’s alright,” you smiled, lacing your fingers with his. “I already got everything I need.”

Piper walked out of her dorm, saying goodbye to her parents. They had just gotten to the dorms after stopping at Piper's storage container nearby and picked up her stuff, so they could move in Piper and Natasha to there senior dorms. Piper was going to move off campus, but it would of been too dangerous. Especially since, she was no longer a working royal.
After her and August made it back to Toronto, and while they were with Charles at there parent's lake house on a lake in Toronto, Piper had made the incredibly hard decision to step back from royal duties. Though she would always be in attendance to her grandmothers events, her birthdays, state visits and anyhting else that she wanted to do. That meant that nobody had to know that she was at Umich. Nobody had to know her every move, and that she could officially breathe. Though no longer a working royal, her grandmother provided security whevener and wherever the granddaughter needed. Her brother fully supported her and felt relieved that she no longer had to worry about anything else in her life again. Though, she would be his right hand man when and if he became king. Also in that time, the twins had cut off all contact with the Hughes despite Luke's best efforts on social media to talk but they didn't budge. Natasha and Eric were torn because they loved both sides of sibilings so much and kept everything neutral between one another. Besides, natasha was Piper's long lost sister. Natasha and August sadly had broken up, but it was due to distance and honestly, everything kind of fizzled after new york. Though, they remained friends.
"We will be back in a few weeks for family weekend, will you be okay kiddo?" Piper's mom said hugging her daughter. "Yes mom, I am and will be." She smiled, and her mom stepped back. Her dad gave her a smile, pulling her in. August was always a momma's boy and she was always her dad's favorite. "I love you Pipes." He said giving her head a quick kiss. "I love you too, dad." She smiled and she stepped back. "Safe travels, text me when landed." She said as they got into there car. They promised and then drove off. Piper stood there for a brief moment, before starting a way back. She began her walk back, stopping at the starbucks on campus to get her usual before heading back to unpack. She got her drink rather quickly and started her 10 minute treck back. She respodned to a few text messages as she did so, before checking instagram and then twitter. Seeing what was seeing said about her, just for fun. She made her way back into the dorm to the 2nd floor and unlocked her door. She walked in looking at the ground before realizing that somebody was in her's and Natasha's dorm. "Ah." Piper announced, coming eye to eye with Jack Hughes. "Hey Piper." He said akwardly. She gave him a fake smile, before shutting the door and walking into her room. She shut her door and sat down on her bed, sipping her cold brew. She shrugged it off, and pulled out her laptop to do some mindless binging.
She woke up a few hours later, it was now 10 pm and it was raining. Pouring really. Piper walked out into the living room to see Natasha on her phone, and the two looked at one another. Piper grinned, letting the girl know she wasn't upset. "Dude, you've been pinning after him since yall were kiddos. Youre good." Piper laughed, grabbing her keys and wallet. "Im getting tacos, want anything?" She questioned and the girl gave her order. Piper quickly jogged down the stairs hoping to get to her car quickly. "Oh fuck." She muttered opening the door to pouring rain. Ofcourse her umbrella was in her car. If she made a mad dash, it would only take her a few mintues to get to her car. She jogged out into the rain, hoping to not come across anybody. Yet, fate had other plans.
"Piper!" She heard behind her and she moved faster, terrified. "Piper!" The voice called again, she briefly looked back and saw a familiar face. She sighed, slowing down. She cursed herself as she continued to her car. "Wait, Piper!" He said once again, grabbing her softly. She whipped around, "What?!" She demanded. He stopped moving and she did too. "What do you have to say to me after what you did?" She said getting upset. He shook his head, "What? I never did anything! I never did what they accused me of. I would never, you know that!" He defended himself. "They wouldn't lie to me." She said beginning to walk off. "Please, believe me! I did nothing, you know me Piper. You know me." He repeated himself and she stopped, looking back at him. The rain was relentless and not helping her mood. She stared at him, feeling her eyes fill with tears. She shook her head, "They wouldn't lie to me though.." She said trailing off. "I would never throw away what we had going. I cared for you way too much to betray your trust like that. I cared about your brother too much for that to happen. Especially after seeing your reaction to them, god. I had never been so scared for somebody before. I haven't been able to stop thinking about you, even though I knew you hated me. I couldn't stop. And when I got back to Michigan, I prayed that I would bump into you before I went back to Vancouver. I just needed you to know that. I needed you to know I never did anything." He confessed and they stared at one another. Her heart was in shambles, not knowing what to believe. He sighed, rolling his eyes and began to walk back the other way towards his destination. "I never hated you, though." She said after a few seconds. He stopped in his tracks. "Yeah, I was upset but a part of me knew you'd never do such a thing. I just knew, even though my family or Joey wouldn't believe me. I know you cared about me too much to do that." She paused and waited for him to turn around. He did, feeling a glint of hope. She shook her head, "Im sorry I didn't reach out. I literally just gave up my whole life a few weeks ago, so Im sorry." She rambled, but he didn't care. He walked towards her, bringing his hands to her cheeks and pulling her in for a kiss. She grabbed ahold of his wrists, pulling him in closer. They kissed for a mere 20 seconds before parting and catching there breathes. "Im sorry I didn't believe you." She said with her voice cracking. He pulled her in for another kiss. "Come on." He said grabbing her hand afterwards and making a dash for his car.
the two took in eachother's warmth and the feeling of one another, because quinn would be returning to vancouver the next afternoon. she cuddled into his chest, as he midnlessly traced circles on her shoulder. "give me this semester, and then ill be there with you in the new year." she murmured, after thinking about her upcoming semester as a senior. "wait-what?" he questioned looking down at her. "give me this semester, ill graduate and then ill be up there in the new year." she clarified, meeting his eye. "wait- what no." he said an she sat up unsure of his reaction. "what do you mean no?" she said trying to read his face. "don't waste your last year on me. don't force early graduation for me. stay here, stay here with natasha and luke." he said bringing his hands to her chin, softly as she shut her eyes. "don't waste it like i did." he said bringing her to his chest and kissing her head. "ill see you in the summer, ok?" he murmured and she nodded, allowing herself to cry. he fought back his tears but couldn't keep them in. they'd find their way back to one another, if it was meant to be.
It was now sumemr time, and newly graduated Natasha and Piper headed out to New Hampshire for a week before hopping on a plane to Toronto than to her old stomping grounds of Sussex, UK. "BROTHER!!!!!" Piper screamed in her most british and posh accent as she walked outside and saw her twin and Eric standing on the dock. "BROTHER!" He screamed back and she took off in a jog, before they hugged. The twins hadn't see eachother since graduation a month ago as Natasha and Piper roadtripped around the country for that month. "Ric!" she beamed, giving her friend a big hug as well. Natasha smiled widely at August and hugged one another. Nothing could beat this week on the lake. Nothing.
Later in the afternoon, Piper walked out towards the dock with her iced americano in hand and took some photos of the clear aesthetic sky. She heard a back door open and close, thinking it was Natasha or Auggie. "Pipes?" She heard to her right, and she turned and saw Quinn. A nervous smile erupted on his face, and she smiled widely and took off to meet him. "Hi." She whispered, looking up into his eyes. The same hazel one's that were warm, welcoming and full of comfort. "Hi." He said mesmorized, by being in her presence once again. Nothing needed to be said between the two, they just knew that this was the moment they'd get back together. Nothing could stand in eachother's way now.
The Princess and the American Boy were going to be together, just you wait.

bitches say they’re gonna write up a list of things that would be cool to see in s6 of jamie johnson and then don’t follow up with that for like 2 years
it’s me. i’m bitches
as a preface this is just kind of a shitpost from start to end and they’re not really fully developed ideas but yeah, it’s something at least
jamie and dillon at northport
- see friendship strengthen, still with same dynamic that they’ve always had, very playful and with a lot of sarcasm
- jamie struggling with taking risks after injury - since you start learning to drive during these years in the uk, maybe fear of driving now?
- jamie defends dillon with homophobia that may arise, no wavering from that
- elliot has to fucking come back, dealing with a romance there, where dillon is really shy at first, doesn’t reveal his feelings for a little bit
- maybe foxborough make a comeback, tension with homophobia there? i don’t know if they seem like the homophobic type
- both finding their way as the youngest on the team - how do the older players handle it? are they pretty vengeful and jealous or are they impressed? maybe one of them has some kind of backstory that will intertwine with jamie or dillon’s, like a real-life mentor
- will we get a comeback of the guy who wanted to steal jamie for some team in china, i believe it was?
- maybe seeing some stuff from hawkstone with their new prodigy, highlighting that they never really cared, they only were worried about the money, which in turn makes jamie feel bad
- SIENNA MAKE A COMEBACK WITH A GIRLFRIENDDDDDDDDDD AND SEE ELLIOT AND DILLON TOGETHER
- okay, not likely, but like lowkey it makes sense to bring her back because duncan is going to be a more significant figure in this season, it would be nice to see him improve as a father and strike the balance between handling the club but also taking care of his daughter, who is going through a lot in her teen years, it would be nice to see them have nice moments at home together
- but like actually give her a valid storyline besides social media, what does she want to do when she gets older? i can see her almost doing something artistic, like designing outfits or something, but whatever we does, it would be nice to see her not feel so restricted by her father’s work and go along her own path outside the club
- sienna and dillon become friends again and people are like, “oh my god you have a gay best friend” and she becomes really vocal about that being literally the dumbest thing ever, the show can demonstrate this type of homophobia that’s kind of “in disguise,” not as in your face as dillon’s dad
- progressive queen and then realizes she can use her platform on social media to spread awareness, since that is what she enjoys doing
- but at the start of the season wanted to step away from it, reminded her too much of everything with her dad and wanted a break, she thought it was toxic but realizes she could do good with her voice
- jamie and jack reunite, even if it’s not playing against each other (i don’t think that would work), but meeting each other now when they’re both where they wanted to get to
- can we finally get that romance between them
zoe and kat at hawkstone
- talking about body image for women in sports
- it would be really cool to have transgender girl on the team, and some of the struggles she faces being an athlete while also being trans
- or talking about disabilities in sports, that would be really nice to see
- zoe falling in love with kat, but like no comment on sexuality, it just is what it is
- IF SHE BROUGHT KAT HOME AT THE END OF THE SEASON AFTER BEING SO HIDDEN ABOUT IT OH MY GOD AND SHE MET HER MOM
- like zoe’s very private because she’s worried that kat won’t like her if she talks about her mom, which is silly, but then seeing kat support her and learning how to be in a relationship with someone with a lot of responsibilities at home
- maybe her mom’s situation interferes with her place at hawkstone
- do they meet up with jack’s team again? would they even play against her (like are hawkstone and st. george’s even compatible?)
- exploring more of kat’s backstory, maybe why she’s so superstitious and what kind of an impact her grandmother had on her
- i believe she mentioned having a brother who plays (gave zoe his old boots) so it would be interesting to hear how having a sibling doing the same thing has affected kat, in a different way to the whole competition between dillon and liam
- watching kat lose some of her superstition in that she’s able to believe more in herself and her abilities and allow herself to make mistakes
- they’ll probably have a lot of pressure on them since hawkstone just started this new women’s team, maybe there could be a lot of competition with the boys’ team
- zoe is not going to do the whole, “being jealous of other girls” thing anymore, okay? she’s grown out of it
- honestly would like to see some dillon and zoe moments, wlw mlm solidarity
boggy our absolute hero
- boggy finding his passion outside of helping sports, unless that is his passion
- friendship between him and jamie struggling at first when he finds what he wants to do, but proving that you can stick together even with not exactly aligned interests
- schoolwork getting more intense with whatever tests they have to do at his age (i have no idea how the british education system works haha)
- check in with his therapy, see how that’s going, we actually see him get to go to one appointment, maybe, hopefully he’s built a good relationship with his therapist and we see the show promoting finding professional help if you need it
- maybe tries to get through a panic attack himself, with coping mechanisms he’s learned in therapy, i don’t know if the building pressure of school would be what induces it or not, but if his storyline is more about getting to see him outside of football, i doubt it would be because of anything related to the sport or stats or whatever
- anything about his family? like how they react to his diagnosis (unless he’s already told them what’s been happening), how close he is with them, if some of the pressure in school comes from at home, whether he has any siblings - we want to know more!!
- would he and nancy cross paths after he finds the thing he’s interested in, since it might be the same thing, or at least something similar, they realize they’re really good together and supportive of each other
- i can see them really pulling through, and it would be nice to see nancy being there for him with his panic attacks and learning how to be a supportive girlfriend to someone who does have problems with anxiety, panic attacks, etc
u14s at phoenix
- i want them to get a comparable opportunity as the gothia cup, something else though, so that they get the experience they missed out on with the whole duncan situation, the season will center around them working towards that thing, i don’t really have any suggestions since i don’t know football but i’m sure there’s something else for them out there
alba and ruby
- her and ruby get further apart, doing their own respective things, now that ruby isn’t playing football anymore, for some reason i feel like she’ll be into either art or psychology, but i can also see her trying to do some activism-esque stuff after her experience growing up in foster homes and now finally being adopted (!! i’m still so happy for them)
- now that she’s not playing at phoenix, we have no idea who ruby’s friends with, maybe she has some at school? i would like elliot to come back and the two of them to bond
- i can see ruby wanting to know more about her background but alba not being so much into that, which causes tension between the pair, ruby just feels like she doesn’t have a solid idea of who she is and wants to know where her roots are, whereas alba is in a good place at phoenix with a sense of being in a family there and doing what she loves
- alba’s anger management is poor, her and ruby bond over futsal or whatever after a period of time not talking after whatever issues come up between them
- the trio made up so it doesn’t seem like she has any issues with freddie or eric, but i want to see her grow more into the captain’s role and take on the responsibilities and stresses of getting the team to whatever opportunity they’re doing, maybe working more with duncan and him being more willing to help the team
eric
- i want to get a look into his home life, maybe how that affects him at school and just in general the emotional impact it has on him
- what happens to his family after the team get that comparable opportunity to gothia, compared to what ryan was doing?
- we’ve just heard little snippets of his life and it sounds like a really complex story to explore which i think would be really cool, dealing with grief and the loss of a family member, and how it affects day to day life
freddie
- once they get this formal opportunity, freddie would be asked to be more serious on the team, kind of always the jokester and not fulfilling his full potential
- he doesn’t know where he fits in and who he wants to be, was there something in his past that made him feel like he had to feel that jokester role (like how wozza with adhd always wanted to crack the jokes and make a fool of himself so people were laughing with him)?
- it would be great to see him get a bit vulnerable and open up about some of his motivations, but eventually he finds the balance between putting in effort and not getting distracted and also being his normal fun-loving self
- please keep commentating because that was lots of fun, freddie
liam
- i want to see him bond with one of the three when they’re in a bad spot, happened to be there by accident and they’re going through something that maybe he can relate to, that’s why he is able to help, that way it isn’t a planned way to get people to forgive him, but rather, just natural, now that he’s growing up a bit
- does he even want to do football anymore? or was it always a pressure from dillon being so good, and he’s found other interests? or maybe he just doesn’t want to be as good as dillon, i feel like there’s a lot of emotional manipulation from the dynamic at home, and i can see him realizing that he never liked football for football, he just liked winning and making his dad “proud”
the johnson family
- is karen dating someone new? i would like to see her on her own and she absolutely doesn’t need anyone to help her, but i also feel like she deserves someone that truly would be there for her and support her, especially after everything that’s gone on with ian
- i also want to hear more about her own career endeavors, and how that intertwines with jamie now going pro - she’s always been there to support him but it’ll be interesting to see how family impacts professional players in general, and ones that are really young like jamie as well
- is mike staying at phoenix? literally what’s the point of his character, does he even want to be with the now u14s? or is he going to try and interfere too much in jamie’s career, which he wouldn’t want because he’s now pro? maybe i’m just still kind of annoyed at mike and have a very negative view of his intentions, so ignore this
- ian can just disappear forever, please, unless he comes back for one episode because that’s what ian does
- what about feeling guilty for literally running his own son down bitch, i thought we were going to get a whole arc with that but maybe the point is that ian is such a flawed character and sometimes people don’t change and -
- who would teach jamie to drive, karen? new boyfriend? depending on who it is, it might present different issues with jamie learning to drive if they do want to explore him being a little nervous after the accident
TL;DR
i just kind of want to see more of the characters in their own individual element, bring in school more (season 2-3 vibes) and get a more well rounded view of some of the characters we don’t know a lot about. i think they’ve left it in a place with a lot of interesting storylines to be explored, i just hope we don’t get another freddie-eric-aisha love triangle situation
...
i was going to say stan stormzy for clean skin but it took me way too long to figure out what her name was so that is no longer a valid statement

I want to do the Kelly is a comic book writer Au but I don’t want to write the whole story, just snippets. So here is the outline. I will probably add snippets and stuff, just wanted the stories set up done and over with, and I can get to the fun stuff. Set in 2015.
&&&&&&
Em starts reading this new indie comic on the recommendation of a friend. He ends up loving it. It’s a suspenseful mystery, with a head trip and superpowers thrown in.
The problem is that it doesn’t have a regular release date and the writer is a mystery. They have a WEBTOON account, and some social media for the comic but no way of contacting them. They go by the monikers MGK, and Kelly.

Colson works as a barista, and bartender. He also writes and illustrates his own comic series that is pretty popular. He would love to write full time but he has bills to pay and art materials can be expensive. He is careful not to let too much of his personal information get out yet. He will once he’s in a better place, and can focus on his art more.
He likes being a barista, and bartender. The cafe he works at is owned by a witch, and doubles as a bar after dark, plus the atmosphere is cool, relaxed, and accepting. The patrons are for the most part nice, and he makes decent money. Enough that he can make a decent living. The downside is that the cafe is open 24 hours, and some of the shifts suck, but it’s not bad.
******
Em finds out that MGK is doing a live stream, where they are going to be drawing random things, answering some questions, and hopefully gives them an update on the next chapter. He has Hailey help him set up an account for the live stream, and is careful not to let others know he is Eminem.
******
The stream goes well for Colson. He gets a lot of questions, and types a response for most of them. Some were just too personal. There was one person who stuck out. They asked a few good questions, and gave his art a lot of compliments.
Em continues to watch MGK’s streams, and eventually Kelly herself (hahaha) messages him. Em and Colson start a friendship over the web. Neither saying who they really are (or gender in Colson’s case).
Em inspires Colson, and he gets farther in the comic. Em has someone to talk to, that doesn’t treat him like Eminem, and he gets to geek out over comics. They develop a relationship besides the comic and become friends. After months of talking they decided to meet in person. Both are apprehensive, Kelly because he is going to meet this awesome person and doesn’t want to disappoint him, and Em because he doesn’t know how Kelly will react to him being Eminem.
******
Em is in Cleveland on business and they decide to meet at a small cafe.
It doesn’t go well. Em thinks he is looking for a woman going by the name Kelly, and Colson is not expecting Eminem.
Colson tries to introduce himself but is ignored and then shoved away. Having enough, he leaves, upset and lonely. He finally gets to meet the person he’s been talking to and not only does it turn out to be one of Colson’s heroes but his hero turns out to be a jerk and just dismisses him. He already has low self esteem and this didn’t help.
Colson leaves behind a doodle of one of his new characters for his comic. Em sees the doodle and thinks nothing of it, until the new issue is released a week later, that the doodle that that punk dropped is in the comic.
Em thought, he was stood-up and was pissed. He doesn’t message MGK and tries to move on with his life. When the comic is updated Em reads it and he puts two and two together. That Kelly was the tall, lanky blond who kept on trying to get his attention, and Em just shoved him away. He thought the guy was just some pushy fan. He feels terrible and tries to contact MGK but is blocked.
Colson is uninspired now. He doesn’t feel like drawing or writing anything. He posted the latest episode because he finished it before he was supposed to meet Em. He wanted to give him a sneak peak before he posted it. Now he doesn’t care. His comic was an escape from the real world, but it has brought the real world crashing down.
Em finally tracks down the cafe Colson works at, and goes there to apologize, but Colson just ignores him. The harder he tries, the more annoyed Colson gets, until Colson’s manager tells him to go on break. Em follows him, and explains why he was rude.
******
“Listen, I’m sorry. I thought you were just some obnoxious stan, who wouldn’t go away. I didn’t realise that you were Kelly.”-Em
“Sorry to be a disappointment to the great Slim Shady, but this is who I am. I would say ‘take it or leave it’, but you already made that decision.Sorry I don’t live up to what you thought I was. Sorry I’m not good enough for you.”-Colson spits as his eyes start to glisten.
“Fuck! I know I messed up, okay. I’m not disappointed that you're you, or that you're a guy, or anything like that. I just thought you were a chick, and I was excited to meet you, that I didn’t realise that you were Kelly.”-Em
“ Why did you think I was a girl?”-Colson asked angrily
“ You go by MGK, and Kelly. Only Kellys I know are women.”-Em answered lamely
“MGK stands for Machine Gun Kelly, like the old school gangster.”-Colson huffed
“Oh.”-E
“Yeah, ‘oh’. Now If you are done I’m going back to work.”-Colson turns and starts to head back inside. Em grabs his wrist before he gets too far. The blond turns around facing the older man.
“Please wait. I know what I did was shitty, and that you have every right to be mad, but please listen. You are perfect just the way you are. Just because you don’t match what was in my head doesn’t mean you aren’t good enough or that I am disappointed. Okay. You are an amazing artist. I’m sorry I ever made you feel that way about yourself.”-Em
Em lets go of his wrist and it falls to Colson’s side. Neither one of them move for a moment. Colson looks Em in the eyes, tears rolling down his cheeks.
“Do you mean that?”-Colson asks
“Yeah. I do.”-Em
“My shift ends at 2. Wanna try again?”-Colson
“Yeah. I would.”-Em

same circle, new memories : m.k
brief summary: being a social media influencer most of your life is forever on display, but the most private part is your relationship with matt. one you both enjoy being just the two of you, that is until you’re exposed and fans are allowed to react.
word count: 1.1k requested: yes- so long ago it’s embarrassing! this is actually a combination of two requests both from anons. (one about having date night w matt cooking and the other being a social media person and having your relationship w matt revealed) warnings: literally none, but if you count swearing?
* masterlistin’
(everything on my blog is my own writing. if it is shared on another page or website know it isn’t me. all rights reserved. - i have to start doing this as I had some shit on my other blog with plagiarism)
Tumblr media
You were always amongst the same circles of people, it was part of your job. In the end, it was only going to be a matter of time before you spoke to one another and you’ve never been more thankful that he made the first move.
Sometimes, when you think back to it, the entire thing feels like it happened yesterday. The nervous smile he wore as he leant against the wall beside you as you held another red cup in your hand, past the point of comfortable. But you talked to him, you liked his glasses and his humour. And for once, that at one of these parties someone wasn’t trying to seduce you, not intentionally that is.
Both of you weren’t interested in making it public after a few dates. You enjoyed the privacy you shared, the sweet moments you could enjoy as a couple without forcing it down everyone’s throats. There wasn’t a need to cause speculation with fans, to display what is going on. You were just happy, and so was he. And for you, that was all that truly mattered at the end of the day. Your relationship was in a bubble, one neither of you were prepared to have burst.
Sadly, someone always comes around and pops the bubble, exposing you both to the entire world. Well, to all of those on social media following you both that is.
*
Walking into your kitchen, you could smell the chicken as it was removed from the oven. A ward of smoke swiftly clinging to the ceiling as the lights shine onto the swirls of grey.
A loud cough follows, and you silently laugh as you lean against the kitchen counter, waiting for the tall man to turn around and face you.
“Shit.” He mutters under his breath, a heavy sigh leaving his lips.
“You’re telling me, I only just bought that dish.” You reply with a smile, causing him to quickly turn around in a panic.
His eyes are wide, hidden behind his foggy glasses. “I didn’t think you were home?” He questions and I glance over my shoulder, seeing my roommate give me a thumbs up before walking toward her room.
“Change of plans. My photoshoot ended early.” You reply, placing your bag down on the counter before moving to open the windows as you struggle not to cough. “You cooking is dinner?” You ask with a smile, walking over and wrapping your arms around him.
Matt shrugs his shoulder before his arms rest around your shoulders. “Well, I was going to make it a surprise.” He huffs, ignoring your growing smile. “But I forgot you have a weird oven.” He motions to the near-black chicken resting on the counter.
“You tried, that’s all that matter.” You tell him supportively, causing him to turn back and lean in to kiss you softly.
As he pulls away he groans into your lips. “How long you home for?” He questions as his forehead remain against yours.
“Few days. I’ve got a trip to New York with Tarte on Monday ‘til Thursday.” You explain, watching his smile falter. “But,” You reason, standing back on your tiptoes. “then I’ll be home for a month. No commitments, just the usual stuff in the city.”
Matts smile returns as he kisses you gently. “That, I like the sound of.” He chuckles as you head your roommate call you, causing your moment to be interrupted.
“Hey, sorry to interrupt you guys. I know it’s date night, but you might wanna see this.” She holds up her phone as a look of worry is evident in her eyes.
Slowly, you walk over toward her as Matt follows behind you. “What’s up?” You ask calmly as she passes you her phone, seeing a screenshot of a photo one of your friends took of you and Matt.
It takes a moment to process what is happening. And when it hits you, you swear under your breath. “Fuck.” You rub your eyes, realising what it all means.
You turn and grab your phone, seeing notifications rolling in by the second. “Your phone will be blowing up too.” You glance over, telling Matt as a heavy sigh leaves your lips.
After all these months, a single photo is all it took to expose your perfect relationship. You enjoyed months of being just you, not recording every given moment together for anyone else to see. Every vlog that was filmed you noticed snippets that were cut out of you both. You knew they still existed, as Matt wanted to treasure those together. Any sight of you curling up together was put down to friendship, and you ignored comments questioning the pair of you.
Glancing up to Matt, he wears the same look of uncertainty. “What’d we do?” You ask him quietly, biting at your lower lip as he rubs his temples.
Letting his hand fall down to his side, he huffs to himself. “Do you wanna address it or keep this quiet?” He focuses on you, watching your eyes remain on his.
You allow your mind to wander to the night you first spoke, how transfixed you were with his eyes then. When you looked at them, they told you a thousand different stories, ones you were excited to hear. You knew you could trust him, you would always trust him.
“I don’t wanna keep us quiet.” You speak up confidently. “I care about you, Matt. And I think, no, I know I love you.” The words roll off of your tongue effortlessly as you focus on him, not letting your gaze nudge from his.
Without realising it, you watch as Matt’s lips move and repeat the words back to you. His hands wander down your arms, intertwining his fingers with yours. “I can’t believe you got to say it first.” He mutters to you with a light laugh, causing your smile to grow.
“What can I say? I’m not good at waiting.” You joke, glancing over to see your roommate with her phone up, capturing the moment.
She lowers her phone, wearing a sheepish look on her face. “Thought you might wanna keep this moment precious. I’ll airdrop the photo.” She walks off, dropping the photo of you two in each other's arms together, curled up in your perfect bubble.
“Shall I?” You bite your lip, looking up to see Matt nod.
Letting one hand slip from his, you reach out from your bubble and post the picture, bursting your bubble and allowing the world in.

Cory Boatright (00:41): Jay, my man! How you doing?
Jay Conner (00:41): Hello, Cory! I’m doing fantastic. How about you?
Cory Boatright (00:47): Well, my lands.
Jay Conner (00:51): Oh my lands!
Cory Boatright (00:55): Jay. I know that you are The Private Money Authority, but some people do not know who you are, that are going to be attending here on this event that I’m so excited to bring on these free Fridays. There’s three of them total. Would you mind going ahead and just share in a five second little snippet of kind of who you are, what you are doing right now in the private money space? And I’m going to share about the gift that we’re going to give all the people that are going to attend this special event.
Jay Conner (01:29): Alright! Excellent. So yes. My wife Carol Joy and I, we’ve been investing in single family houses full time since 2003 and the first six years of us doing the business, I relied on local banks to fund our real estate investing deals, right? The 3rd week of January, 2009, Cory. I called on my bank on right here on this telephone where I’m sitting and I learned in that phone call that I had been cut off with no funding, no lines of credit, they were gone. And I had two houses under contract worth over a hundred thousand dollars in profit. So my definition of coincidence, Cory, is God’s way of staying anonymous. So in less than two weeks, I was introduced to this wonderful world of private money, not hard money, not hard money lenders or brokers I’m know about doing business with individuals, human beings.
Jay Conner (02:30): And I learned about how to borrow money from their investment capital. I also learned about self directed IRAs, how people can loan money to my business from their retirement funds. So I learned all about that. [There’s a lot of that out there right now]. Even more now, right? And so I put my program together and without asking for any funding, I was able to raise $2,150,000 in less than, 90 days of being cut off from the banks. And I have a great deal since I started doing that back in 2009. So I’m here in a small town, Cory and my total target Morgan, similarly 40,000 people, I don’t do a lot of deals, I do 2-3 deals a month, but my average profit is $67,000 per deal. So those numbers seem to work out okay.
Cory Boatright (03:28): Absolutely. And so private money right now is needed more than anything really else because of this Covid situation. And there’s all these things that are changing right now, Jay, you have three Fridays that you are going to be giving away information. I know you’re going to be talking about private money, you’re gonna be talking about four closures which are coming. They are going to be coming and you gotta be prepared for what that is going to look like for you and how you can take advantage of that. And then also there’s private money that actually costs money, Jay, but you’re going to be talking about private money that’s free private money too. And so can you just share a little bit about those Fridays?
Cory Boatright (04:10): Absolutely. So the first and, by the way, these are not two hours each day. These are all day for your people in your world. Cory. All they gotta do is register. Y’all just registered. So the first Friday is may the 22nd all right, May 22nd and on that Friday, this is going to be virtual. Of course, it’s going to be right here on the internet. So folks you’re seeing this, you’re going to be able to attend. And so the first Friday is about how to get private money, a lot of private money, very, very quickly. How to attract it without having to chase any of it and get funding for your deals regardless of your credit score, regardless of your verification of income. I mean, you can be laid off right now from your job and get just as much private money funding for real estate deals as I do.
Jay Conner (05:01): All this is going to be framed how to do this and get a lot of funding quickly here in the midst of corona virus and even on the other side, a lot of hard money lenders were shut down right now. They’re not loaning money out and you don’t have to rely on the banks on this. So how did you get a lot of funding for your deals right here in the midst of uncertain times? Friday or May 22nd it’s going to be all about foreclosures. And I’m talking about how to serve a lot of people from the space of a servant’s heart. I mean, you’ve got Corona crisis going on now. I mean, you’re going to have a ton of people where their own crisis. I mean, they’ve got, you know, as, as we know now, foreclosures have got to stay. There’s no new sales going you know, there’s no new files being opened up.
Jay Conner (05:52): But Cory, as my grandmother would say, if she were living, all they’re doing is saving up spit, right? None of that stuff is going away. So we’ll leave when they open it up, we’re going to have this avalanche of foreclosures. And then on top of that, think of all the people over 30 million people that are unemployed, laid off from their jobs. That’s going to create even more foreclosures. And you know, there’s this talk of, Oh well they can put while they’re behind on the back end of their note, that’s not going to be happening in the majority of the cases. So there’s going to be this huge opportunity. I’m talking for the next 24 months, at least in my opinion, to serve a lot of people and to create win win situations, get a lot of profit out of it as well. Then the third Friday on June the 5th I call it how to locate free private money, how to get funding for your deals without having to borrow any money whatsoever or come up with a down payment. So there you have it, Cory. That’s all free for your people.
Cory Boatright (06:56): I love it. So the day is the first Friday starts on what day?
Jay Conner (07:01): Yep. The first fraud is May 22nd
Cory Boatright (07:02): May 22nd the second Friday. And so it’s right along. It’s every single Friday after that. So three Fridays total. [That’s right]. Okay, great. Great. So what I need for you to do, if you want to attend this class, it’s really simple. Just go to PrivateMoneyPlace.com that’s where you go and when you go there you are going to register and Jay you have a free gift that you’re going to give them. What are you going to give them?
Jay Conner (07:32): Absolutely. Besides the free training, just as a thank you for registering a bonus gift for you being in Cory’s world, I’m going to give you for three weeks total 100% access to my own membership site, which is called The Private Money Academy and so you get a whole month of free. I got a ton of training in there and again that’s just going to be a congratulations to you for taking action to register for these three virtual Fridays.
Cory Boatright (08:01): I love it, Jay, I appreciate you! Go to PrivateMoneyPlace.com register and you get the four trainings on top of the three full days! Full day! Of training for private money and you need this right now. If you’re a wholesaler, you need this right now. If you’re a fix and flipper, a buy and holder, I don’t care if you’re involved with short sales or lease options. Whenever you learn about private money, it opens up the world for you to do more deals and serve more people, which both of those things allow you to impact the world and make a bigger chain. So go to Private MoneyPlace.com join me and Jay there. It’s going to be great. So I’ll see you there. Thank you again, Jay!
Jay Conner (08:45): Thank you Cory! And Cory, you’re going to be there with me as well, so you’re not just getting Jay, you’re going to have Cory the virtual event, so getting registered. Thank you Cory. I’ll see you there.
Cory Boatright (08:56): Appreciate you. Thank you guys. Remember, be a servant. Bye now. Bye bye.
Cory Boatright (09:03): Okay, so let’s do a sizzle reel. That is one minute sizzle reel 30 seconds to one minute sizzle reel. And I want to do on this is I want to record this one that I can share on social media prior. As I’m starting to if I don’t have to have a long video, I just want to have a short video or just sit, they just see a quick sizzle reel. Okay.
Jay Conner (09:28): You tell me what you want me to say. In less than 30 seconds
Cory Boatright (09:33): I want you to cover is the what, the three Fridays quickly what they get on each Friday, the start date and then if you can have that thing running at the same time, I start talking to Scott on the bottom. Yep, that’d be great. And I’m just going to come on just real excited about the private money, how you’re going to give away three full days and it’s going to be almost like you’re joining a conversation. So it’s going to be something like, are you kidding me Jay? You are going to give away three full days and then you do it. And we’ll do it for that. And so it’s literally going to be 60 seconds.
Cory Boatright (10:10): Awesome.
Cory Boatright (10:11): That we do it. So it’s literally gonna be just a quick 60 seconds
Jay Conner (10:17): Okay.
Cory Boatright (10:19): And we’ll use this as our sizzle reel.
Jay Conner (10:23): Okay.
Cory Boatright (10:25): So we’ll start here. I’ll just do the countdown for you. Okay. In five, four, three, two, one. Jay, are you kidding me? You’re actually going to give away three full days of private money training?
Jay Conner (10:48): You got it, Cory. Three full days and it’s gonna start the first Friday or May 22nd then May 29th and then June 5th all free. Now, first Friday is going to be how to get funding for your deals. Private money regardless of your experience or your credit or your income. How to get the funding right here in the midst of Corona virus. The second Friday is going to be all about foreclosures. How does serve a lot of people that are going to be in foreclosure right here on the other side of corona virus, how to locate these and create win-win opportunities and make a ton of money while serving a lot of people. And the third free Friday, Cory is going to be all about, I call it, how to locate and get private money, how to get funding for your deals without having to borrow any money whatsoever. So they’re coming up right around the corner.
Cory Boatright (11:39): That’s awesome. Thank you again, Jay. I’m looking forward to this. I’m going to join you on this as well. So this is where we go. You go to PrivateMoneyPlace.com register and Jay is going to give you a free gift just for registering and you got to go check it out. PrivateMoneyPlace.com. Jay, I’m looking forward to it. Go there. I now registered.
Cory Boatright (12:00): Alright, see you there!

       What's SEO In 2020. (Best Tips)Techmekraj  → Are you confused about what to focus on when it comes to search engine optimization? Do you want to have the perfect SEO strategy when it goes into 2020? Hi, everybody. I'm Niraj JH, my website is www.techmekraj.com, www.techmekraj.blog,www.recepiezz.blogspot.com some of the sites in the internet world. And today, I'm going to give you the most important items to focus on for search engine optimization in 2020. → Content but not just content at scale, how can you create an amazing piece of content and then build an expert team around it so that you can scale that content initiative and get even more traffic for every single page that you create?     →  Link building but professional link building outreach where you're promoting one or two amazing pieces of content each month to the people who really, really care about it in your industry. By doing that, you can be getting 10s of millions every single month to the content that really matters.   →Refreshing pages, you shouldn't have any old pages on your website, every single page should be up to date, and should have the latest and greatest. So make sure that every single page on your website has been refreshed every six months.   →Schema.org just got so important with the Google Assistant schema.org now feeds data directly from your website into the Google Assistant. So you need to have a strategy to mark up all the most important pieces of your website with the schema. So that goes straight to the assistant. And when somebody does a voice search, the information that you want comes directly back. →Google actions are the way that you can build an app for the Google Assistant which is in everybody's phone out there. So you need to take the time to claim your Google action in the Google actions directory and create your own Google action. really not that hard to do. I was able to make one in about 20 minutes. So you can create your own Google action, of course, harder ones are going to be more sophisticated and take more time.   →Page Speed, super important, it is a ranking factor. And when you don't have a fast website, you lose visitors, you need to make sure that your mobile page speed is over 70 and your desktop PHP is over 80. And if it's not a keep working until you get there, number seven technical, you should be crawling your website every single month, have a list of all the technical errors and be working through those to fix those sequentially. Websites nowadays really shouldn't have technical issues, but they still do. It's pretty amazing how many issues come up all the time, the really the bigger the site, the more technical issues you need to consistently be working to improve those. And accelerated mobile pages are now more important than ever for mobile and also for the Google Assistant as they can feed directly into the google assistant and then also snippets can be created through schema.org in a specific way. So now you  →Have a page. And you need to make sure you're marking up specific pieces of your content with schema so that it goes into Google. And basically, by marking it up with schema, you're telling Google, you can use this, you can use this within Google and you can use it within the Google Assistant. So it's going to be really important for everybody to develop a policy around the types of things that they want to allow the search engine to have, which is having a major impact in Europe. And in some places, you can't actually even do this type of markup like in France, number nine brand building, you can't just do SEO anymore. You need to have a brand you need to be focusing on creating awareness. I love doing Facebook ads, YouTube videos, press releases, creating industry studies, all of these things, build the brand doing events, you know, using social media, there's so much at our fingertips now so that we can get a lot of exposure. If you're not building a brand, you're not going to be successful in SEO, the two go hand in hand.   →EA t expertise, authority, and trustworthiness. You need to have an expert behind the content on your website, if you do, you're going to rank better. If you don't, and you're in the financial or the medical space, there's a very, very good chance that you're going to not be able to get your content ranked and you're going to get hit hard by an algorithm update or when it manual review person from the Google manual review team looks at that content, they're going to dig in so that you don't rank as well. Pro tip I just did a webinar and him on YouTube, you can go check it out.   →International SEO and multilingual SEO, you can translate your website into a different language and you can rank in that language version in Google, you can push your website into another country in English for a different language gives you a whole new market that you can reach out to so international SEO, perhaps the best time ever to be getting involved in this as it's less competitive, and just a really easy win for a lot of businesses who can make it happens.   →SEO on other websites besides your own? What do I mean by that? Well, if I'm a writer for a big website, or if I can, you know, get a column on another website or I just you know, sign not for another website like medium, for example, I can write a post and I can optimize it for a topic, say I wanted to rank for SEO reporting or something like that I wanted to rank for, you know, best holiday shopping guide, I can create a post on another website and get ranked. Now, what's happened? Well, I've had the opportunity to not only get my own website rank but also another post gives me real estate for two different pages in Google. So SEO around the web, a great thing to do.   →Voice Search, there's a whole bunch of stuff that goes around voice search is really, really important. And now the way that you structure your content with FA cues and with responses, and then marking it up with schema is super, supercritical. Over 50% of searches in 2020 are supposed to be done by voice And now for the first time, I've got a guide of every single thing that creates a featured snippet and then every single type of featured snippet that creates a voice response. How cool is that? So building out a framework around →And then applying it to your business goals is going to be really, really important for everybody else. Okay, with the new Google Home hub with Google discovers with smartphones in general, so connected, especially if they're on Android to YouTube. YouTube feeds directly into Google to discover YouTube feeds directly into the Google Home hub. YouTube is critical. And if you don't have video, as part of your strategy, you're really, really missing out not just for SEO, but for this idea of if you create a video, you can post that to YouTube and into your own website, but then also to LinkedIn to Esty, to Instagram stories to the Instagram feed, you know, you can have that go out all around the web, there's a whole bunch of other places I didn't take. So video core component of every single strategy pro tip, if you want to learn more about video distribution and my exact formula for doing it, check out the video I made on the YouTube channel. Okay, my last one today   →Security is going to be so important. Google just came out and if you're not on HTTPS, that important, but also, if there's anything in the code of your website that's not HTTPS, that will block your entire website for sewing showing up in the search engine. So being secure, more important than ever as the web level. Okay, so those are my top things for search engine optimization going into 2020. Certainly, there's a lot more. But if you focus on really quality content, the link building strategy that I talked about, you know, you start getting involved in voice and you jump on the schema and the Google actions and all that stuff quicker than your competition, thinking about international how all these things play together. And then of course, if you're doing local SEO, still an amazing thing to do with optimizing on this state city, zip code, even down to the profile level, all of that still very, very relevant. Thievery and Mischief- (a descendants/marvel crossover)
Tumblr media
4 months later...
“Adri!” The paparazzi scream as I try and make my way through the entrance of the school.
”Please give us any updates!” The reporters ask.
I get a text from my publicist with a couple of notes.
”The rumors are absolutely true, I am permanently leaving my position as advisor to focus on my creative career and college preparations. For now, I am wrapping up a couple of projects and I have many collaborations in the works. We are planning many different events including photoshoots, meet and greets, and festivals. If you have any more questions I am gladly open to interviews through my management,” I say through the microphones of the reporters.
Fairy Godmother waits for me at the door as I push through.
”It’s too early for this,” I say tiredly taking off my sunglasses.
”I know darling,” Fairy Godmother.
She hands me my skateboard and I laugh.
”You truly are a Fairy Godmother,” I snicker.
She smiles and I love my board on the ground, speeding off into the school. I ride my board into the courtyard where everyone hangs out.
Some students wave at me as I pass through the spring grass. Once I reach the tree I hop off. Under the tree, Jay, Carlos, Lonnie, and Arabella wait for me.
”The press back again?” Carlos asks.
”This is exactly why I didn’t want you a part of this,” I groan, sitting down in the grass next to Jay. He plants a sweet kiss on my cheek and wraps an arm around me.
”How you doing, mama?” Jay asks.
”Stressed. I’ve got to coach cheer this afternoon, do my fitting tomorrow for Mal’s cotillion, do a radio show on Thursday, and do the culture fest on Friday,” I rant.
”Tough being a celebrity, huh?” Arabella asks.
Ah yes, to get you up to speed...
My music started taking off after I was being promoted by several influencers. I started making snippets of music and posting my graffiti on my social media and it picked up TONS of views. Call me crazy but I like to think I’m an overnight sensation. The press hounds me every day for updates on the album I promised at the coronation and about my government work.
”Definitely, which is why I didn’t want me and Jay to be public yet,” I say.
”Come on, don’t you think it’s time?” Jay pleads.
”Jay, I cant. I’ve got too much on my plate, leaving Ben’s side and transitioning schedules and having more things to fill my time is absolutely taking me over. I TOLD you the press would hound you and look at what’s going on, they’re doing exactly that,” I say.
”Whatever,” Jay says rolling his eyes.
Jay constantly begs for us to go public every day. We hang out pretty much every day since we’ve started dating in secret. I visit him after his Tourney and Fencing practices, he watches me coach cheer, and we have movie nights every weekend. We do small things to show PDA like notes in our lockers and holding hands and small pecks on the cheek (and neck sometimes :) ) but never anything too big because of the press.
”Listen, why don’t you just spread everything out across your week?” Lonnie asks.
”I try but there’s just so much. Like performances, award shows, conferences, tours,” I start.
”Tour? Your gonna go on tour?” Jay asks with wide eyes.
”My fans have been begging me to do one so it’s in the works,” I say.
Jay stares at me disappointingly and I gulp.
The bell rings and I pack my stuff up.
I head to my locker to get my sketchbook and Biology book as usual and Jay follows me.
”So then what’re your plans for cotillion?” Jay asks.
”I don’t even know if I’m sure I’ll go. I’m just so stressed that I can’t find any time to do things,” I sigh.
”Is there any way I can help with that?” Jay whispers flirtatiously, pressing his lips on my neck. I push him off lightly with my hand.
”Jay, you know I can’t do this. I have to focus on my career right now. I’ll see you in Bio,” I say sincerely to him.
I kiss his cheek softly and close my locker, turning to head to art.
I look behind me and see him beside Carlos, heading down the steps while waving to the girls who try and flirt with him. I sigh softly, I really wish I didn’t have to all these things so I can be with him.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Later, Jane, Arabella, and I head to the gym to watch the boys fence. I walk up to the balcony with the girls, and we watch from above. Jay scouts me through the people in the gym and winks towards me.
”Alright boys, let's line it up!” Jay orders the team.
”Tensions have risen, don’t you think?” Arabella points out.
”What? No,” I scoff.
”Lemme guess, you didn’t talk?” Jane asks.
”Well, he tried to ‘help me’ destress but he knows about how I feel about the press and all that,” I say.
”Don’t you think that’s a little selfish?” Arabella asks.
I think about it for a minute.
”Maybe,” I say.
”I think you should apologize to him, that should usually work,” Jane says.
I nod in agreement. The boys start fencing but one member particularly stands out. They challenge Jay to a duel and all the other boys step aside. Jay’s eyes are focused deeply on this person as he swings his sword. He loses it during the fight and when the match is lost the person takes off their mask...
”Hey, it’s Lonnie!” Jane exclaims.
The audience claps.
”Not bad,” Jay compliments.
”You should put me in the team,” Lonnie replies with a smile.
Then, Chad interrupts.
oh god.
”What? No way- we’ll be the laughing stock of the league. What’s next, we put girls on the Tourney team? Come on, guys,” Chad disagrees.
”Why not, I bet I can tackle your ass any day,” I interject.
Lonnie smirks at my comment.
”So?” Jay assumes.
”So...have you not read the rule book? Chapter 3, paragraph 9, 11-4, 'a team will be comprised of a captain and 8 MEN,” Chad accentuates.
”But you’re down a man! Ben, ever since he started doing that king-stuff!” Lonnie stutters.
“Yeah, we are down a man,” Chad says.
”Sorry, but coach trusts me and I’m not gonna be captain if I just throw out the rule book,” Jay says.
”If my mother thought that way, she would’ve lost the war,” Lonnie huffs.
Chad scoffs and taunts her with the book.
I roll my eyes as the last bell of the day rings.
What the hell is wrong with him? There’s nothing wrong with girls on the team! And to especially say that to Lonnie, is also an offense to me.
Later, I wait for Jay at the front of the gym for a little bit. Getting concerned, I ask Carlos where he is.
”I think he left already, by the way, what are you doing for cotillion?” Carlos asks.
”I don’t even know if I’ll go. I need to clear my schedule first and see if Jay will ask me,” I say.
”Um- Jay told me that he’s not gonna ask anyone,” Carlos says shyly.
What?
”What? He did?” I ask.
”I guess,” Carlos says.
”Can you walk me back to my dorm?” I ask.
”Yeah, sure,” Carlos smiles.
We walk towards the end of the halls and see Jay and Lonnie talking.
”No, it’s fine. I get it. And plus cotillion is coming up so I don’t wanna freak you out with stuff while you're with Adri,” Lonnie says.
”Who said I was going with Adri?” Jay responds.
Carlos puts his arm in front of me, stopping me in my tracks.
”Listen,” Carlos whispers.
”She’s your girlfriend, why not?” Lonnie asks.
”Shes...always working. I try and act like everything with her is fine but it’s like she’s almost never there. She tries to come and support but she’s always taking calls or messages about work. I just want a girl who’s gonna to have the balance of work and fun at once. She’s all over the place and I just...I don’t know if it’s good for her to go to Cotillion with me,” Jay says to Lonnie.
I feel my eyes widen at his words and Carlos turns to me concerned. I feel the air grow thick and my throat tighten as my face gets hot. I start to walk the other way, leaving Carlos by himself.
I walk to the courtyard and sit under my gossip tree. I hide my head in my shirt and start to cry. I gasp and whimper as I sob under the tree, my shirt now stained with my salty tears. The emotion goes over me like a huge wave. Does he not trust me anymore?
”Adri? Are you okay?” A familiar voice asks.
I take my head out of my shirt and see Logan standing in front of me.
I shake my head no.
He sits beside me and rests my arm on his shoulder.
“Hey, what’s wrong? If Jay did something to you, I’ll kick his ass,” Logan offers.
”No. I-I just...I’m w-worried,” I say through breaths.
”Worried about what?” Logan asks.
”That I’m working too hard and not being there enough for Jay,” I say.
”Hey,” Logan starts.
I look at him.
”You are such a supportive girlfriend. You may be going through a rough patch right now but he has to understand the pressure you're going through is hard for any Royal,” Logan says.
”I’m afraid that he won’t understand though,” I say.
”He will,” Logan assures.
Logan wraps his arms around me in a hug. He walks me to my dorm.
”If you need absolutely anything, just knock,” Logan says as I reach my room.
I open the door and before I can start to cry again, I jumó as I see Evie in the middle of my room.
”There you are! You ready for your fitting?” Evie asks.
“Sure...” I say shyly.
”Is something wrong?” Evie asks kindly.
”Just tired,” I lie.
Evie sighs and escorts me to the rack of dresses.
”Whatever it is, this will make you better,” Evie points out.
I smile softly and she starts to work her magic in me.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After my interview, I remember Jay wraps up practice at the time so I head to the gym.
I get a call from my manager, Katie, Doc’s daughter, as I walk to the gym.
”Hey, Katie. What’s up?” I ask.
”Check your socials,” Katie advises.
I put her on speaker and check my social media. Trending, headlines; ADRI WITH NEW BOYFRIEND?!
My eyes widen at the headline. I scroll down and find two pictures, one of me and Jay and another of me and Logan. The articles speculate who the two different guys are and my face flushes as I read it.
“Are you really seeing someone?” Katie asks.
”Yes, but these are two different guys. The blonde guy is just my friend,” I explain.
”So, the other one is your boyfriend?” Katie assumes.
”Yes, but he agreed to keep things on dL...” I say.
”Is this dL to you?” Katie asks frustratedly.
”Katie, I-“
”Fix it!” Katie says, then hanging up.
I speed towards the gym to see Jay.
”Hey! Where are you going? Practice just ended,” Carlos says, bumping into me.
”The press know about Jay,” I tell him.
His smile drops.
”How?” Carlos asks.
“Someone took a picture of us together. And not just that,” I say.
I pull out my phone and show him the picture of me and Logan.
”What? Is that Logan?” Carlos asks.
”Yes! This was after Jay was talking to Lonnie about me. He came to comfort me,” I say.
”Damn, you should probably explain to him the situation before he gets the wrong idea,” Carlos says.
I nod and we walk to the gym. He steps in front of me and his eyes morph into those of fear.
”Too late...” Carlos mutters.
I peek over his shoulder and see the sight of something I never thought would happen.
His hands were on her waist, her hands in his brown hair, he was standing over her as she was pressed into the wall, her, my ‘best friend’, Lonnie...
She was kissing the man I loved.
I could feel the tears well up in my eyes as I stared.
”God, I’m so sorry,” Carlos says.
I fall to my knees and put my head in my hands and cry.
youtu.be/s7FRpMiaa4Q
“I don’t know why he would do this,” Carlos says.
The tears on my face continue to stream down as Carlos speaks.
“Take me home,” I say. Carlos pick me up and we walk to my dorm. I shut my dorm, and sob more. Sliding down the door and crouching. Roxie, concerned by my anxious crying, cuddles next to me. I pick her up and stare at her cute little eyes.
”I love you. Thank you for trusting me. You’re the only one who cares,” I say through tears.
She purrs in agreement. I just lost my best friend and lover and this tiger is the only thing comforting me. I’m almost pathetic at this point. I stand up and put Roxie on my bed. She curls up and watches me.
I grab a duffle bag and I put all of Jay’s hoodies and sweatpants in the bag. I pick up his bomber jacket and I remember our first date. The way he kissed me under the waterfall. How he recognized my scars. How he spoke so passionately in my ear, whispering sweet nothings to me. And I begin to cry again.
My door opens.
”Hey, babe. How’s-“ Jay starts, walking through the door. He notices my tear stained face and his jacket in my hands.
”Baby, what’re you doing?” Jay asks, approaching me concernedly.
”Who the hell do you think you are?! Do you think you can just prance in here and think everything is fine? You w-were kissing her. I saw you! Lonnie! What has she got on me, huh? And why did you tell her all those things? How I’m not supportive of you, and I’m always busy! I’ve sacrificed my patience, my dignity, my temper, my family, and my time just so I can make you happy! And what do you do? You go around telling Carlos that you’re not asking me to Cotillion, telling lies about me and you, and kissing my best friend!” I tell.
”Oh? Do you want to talk? Then what were those pictures that I saw? Who is the estranged guy you’re dating, huh? Cause I sure as hell don’t have blonde hair,” Jay assumes.
”Are you kidding me? That guy isn’t my boyfriend! You are!“ I say.
”Well it sure doesn’t seem like it anymore. And it’s not my fault that I actually found someone that can actually be with me!” Jay yells back.
His words silence me. I think about my brother. He’s such good friends with Jay. I remember him telling me about his friendship with Jay and telling him how he had a crush on Lonnie.  He would be crushed.
”Aziz is gonna kill you for this, you know that? And if he doesn’t, I will. Now take your shit and leave my fucking room,” I say deeply.
Jay glares at me and takes the bag of his things.
”By the way, your best friend was kidnapped. Don’t come looking for him or me,” Jay huffs.
He slings it over his shoulder and slams the door shut.
I wipe the tears from my face and hold Roxie in my arms.

4 Overlooked Ways to Increase Your Website's Search Engine Rankings
Tumblr media
Publishing long-form content, building backlinks, optimizing your site speed and title tags, and so on — you’re aware of the fundamental best practices. While implementing these search engine optimization (SEO) techniques is all fine and dandy, all your competitors are doing the same.
So when it comes to outranking your competitors on Google, you don’t have an upper hand over your competition. Or, do you?
You see, there are some lesser-used tactics that you can leverage to accelerate the process of ranking your website at the top of Google SERPs. And most, if not all, of your competitors would likely be oblivious to these techniques.
Here are four such lesser-known yet well-founded ways to boost your website’s search engine rankings.
1. Optimize Content for Featured Snippets and “People Also Ask”
While attaining the very first spot on Google SERPs is a herculean task, what if you can attain a spot above the first one (the “zeroth” position) with relatively lesser amounts of effort? This so-called “position zero” or featured snippet shows up as a little box that contains the exact answer to the search query, typically in a question format.
The featured snippet is located above the first organic search result, which makes it a great place to be.
Tumblr media
And usually, right below the snippet lies the “People Also Ask” (PAA) section that contains the most frequently asked user questions related to that search query. Google provides answers to these questions by extracting relevant bits of content from various websites, with a link (on the title) at the bottom of the answer.
Tumblr media
While typically towards the top, the PAA section can also be located between two positions (say, fifth and sixth) or at the bottom of the page. Regardless, it is on the first page of SERPs which makes it important for SEO.
Most search marketing experts are cognizant of the value of featured snippets and PAA, but few try to capitalize on them. In a nutshell, here’s how you can take advantage of this frequently untapped opportunity to get on the first page of Google:
Perform thorough keyword research and try to answer all question-type search queries in your content.
Create long-form (comprehensive) content and cover all long-tail keywords.
In your answers, aim for the optimal word count (featured snippets ordinarily range from 40-50 words).
Build an FAQ section on your blog or website.
Besides, optimizing your content for featured snippets and PAA also helps you rank for mobile voice searches (which 27% of the global online population is using), as voice searches are mostly done in a question-like format.
2. Ensure Website Accessibility
Simply put, an accessible website is one that accommodates all visitors on all devices no matter the physical or mental ability of the user.
And whether you like it or not, having an accessible website is mandatory. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) applies to digital properties too, which means your website must be readily usable by visitors with disabilities (such as the visually impaired).
However, website accessibility is important not just to avoid ADA lawsuits but to improve your search rankings and reach new audiences.
With an estimated 26.9 million adult Americans claiming that they either have trouble seeing or are unable to see at all, it’s likely that a substantial chunk of your target audience is being shunned from doing business with you if you’re not having an accessible website.
Now, there’s a lot you can do yourself to improve your site’s accessibility:
Make sure there’s adequate color contrast on every page of your website.
Write an alt text for each image.
Include closed captions for videos.
Make your site keyboard-friendly.
Write detailed anchor texts for hyperlinks.
Design a logical content hierarchy (using subheadings H2, H3, and so on).
Add descriptive labels to form elements.
Publish an accessibility statement declaring your website’s target level of accessibility.
To ensure the highest level of accessibility and full ADA compliance, consider using a web accessibility platform that’s capable of scanning your entire website and making all elements compliant with the WCAG 2.1 (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) published by the World Wide Web consortium.
Better accessibility translates to better user experience (UX) for everyone, and more credibility as a business — things that Google takes very seriously when ranking a website. Thus, if your website is accessible, it indirectly leads to better rankings on Google.
3. Optimize for Image Search
Most websites striving to achieve first-page rankings are laser-focused on ranking in the “All” tab. What they don’t realize is that there’s a lot of SEO potential in adjacent tabs such as “Images” as well, and ranking here translates to better rankings in the “All” tab.
Tumblr media
In fact, the trend of visual searches is booming as we speak — 62% of Generation Z and Millennial consumers want visual search capabilities, more than any other new technology.
What’s more, in early 2018, Google Images accounted for roughly 22.6% of all internet searches, which means capturing this share of searches enables you to win a huge chunk of your audience.
The best part is that ranking for image searches is comparatively easy. Here are some best practices to follow when using images on your website:
Upload high-quality unique images instead of humdrum stock photos that everyone’s using.
Compress all images using a tool like TinyPNG to boost your site speed while maintaining quality.
Have a descriptive image file name to help the search engine crawlers better understand it.
Write a descriptive alt text to improve usability and further assist the search crawlers.
Add images to your sitemap so the search bots can easily crawl and index your images.
Create image structured data so Google displays your images as rich results in the “All” tab.
Furthermore, it’s a great idea to invest in videos for marketing your business. However, creating quality videos does require substantial time, effort, and money. If you wish to leverage video for better rankings and brand visibility without investing too much, consider these video formats:
Screencast tutorials and presentations
Behind-the-scenes of your business
Interviews with industry experts
Client testimonials
Seeing just how effective video is in digital marketing and how people are craving more and more video content today, it makes sense to start creating video content for your business as early as you can.
While on the subject of images and videos…
4. Repurpose Content Into Multiple Formats
It’s no news that blogging and content marketing is key to ranking your business on Google. But your competitors likely aren’t going above and beyond to reuse the same piece of text-based content in different formats so as to extract the most marketing juice out of it.
That’s what content repurposing is — recycling your existing content into different formats such as infographics, videos, ebooks, podcasts, presentations, etc. — in order to reach new audiences while giving Google more stuff to crawl and index.
For example, it is possible that a substantial portion of your target audience prefers watching videos over reading blog posts. Consequently, if you convert your blog posts into quick vlogs, you may be able to garner the attention of that audience segment.
Likewise, you can turn individual blog posts into infographics for better shareability, or collate posts on a single subject into a downloadable ebook.
Besides improving the usability of your content, repurposing enables you to rank for the same content for different search queries, not just on Google but also on social media platforms such as Pinterest for infographics, Instagram for photos, LinkedIn for presentations, YouTube (the second most popular search engine) for videos, and so on.
Thus, the search engine visibility of your content (and thus, your website) goes up dramatically as there’s more content to be crawled and indexed by the bots.
Final Thoughts
The tactics discussed above are often unheeded by even the most experienced search marketing professionals, which means your business can certainly gain an edge provided you implement these alongside the fundamental SEO best practices.
Do you have any obscure SEO techniques of your own that you swear by and don’t mind sharing? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below!

tl;dr the 3-page essay on harassment that nobody, including me, asked for.  the world is exhausting
I wasn’t gonna make one of these posts because of reasons but it’s my blog that like ten people read so fuck it
I started to compose something like this essay in my head on the subway this afternoon.  After fifteen minutes of an elbow digging into my side, the guy sitting next to me tried to talk to me.  I don’t do well with strangers, or men, and there’s a whole load of cultural baggage piled onto an interaction between a man and a woman on public transit.  You’ve probably seen enough “me too” stories from people on your social media feeds to last you a lifetime.  Well.  As I tried to figure out how I should respond to this man, here is what I thought about.
When I was living in Japan, an American friend invited me to her birthday party.  It was a small party, a mix of people I knew and some I didn’t, some fellow expats and a few of her Japanese friends.  Over dinner I wound up chatting with the one Japanese man there.  Like I said, I’m not great with men, but he was friendly, and seemed interested in me (in the most basic and non-suggestive sense of the word “interest”).  On the way to karaoke, my friend took me aside and warned me— he has a girlfriend, she said.  He talks to girls all friendly-like, but… she never outright accused him of anything, she just wanted to warn me.  And me, I didn’t have much experience about men, but we all hear things, right?
The comfortable rapport I’d established with him at dinner was gone.  I had thought I’d made a friend, but now I couldn’t help but question his intentions.  And the atmosphere was different in the smoky, poorly lit bar.  He sat beside me at a corner table and blocked my exit— was that deliberate?  He asked me questions about my dating life— did he realize how uncomfortable it made me? I said I was tired, I wanted to go home, and he tried to talk me out of calling a cab, said his friend could give me a ride.  I had to get another female friend to back me up— how do you say no to getting into a stranger’s car, when this friendly guy is phrasing it like he’s doing you a favor?
I told the story to friends, trying to make sense of it.  Girls mostly agreed he’d been out of line; the one male friend I spoke to said he didn’t think the guy was being creepy.  “He asks everyone questions like that.”  I’ve spent a lot of time wondering about it, if I overreacted, if I let my friend’s “warning” prejudice me against a perfectly decent guy.
My parents came to visit me in Japan and I took them to all my favorite sightseeing spots. Miyajima, Ryoan-ji, the pond near my house.  We traveled around on buses and trains and streetcars.  In Hiroshima a Japanese man sat down next to us and tried to talk to me in English; I was monosyllabic.  My mother leaned forward and spoke across me, engaging the man in conversation until we reached our stop.  After we got off the tram, she said, “I know you’re shy, Elizabeth, but you could at least be polite.”
I didn’t know how to explain myself.  No, he hadn’t said anything outright inappropriate, but in that moment I wasn’t thinking of myself as part of a group of obviously-tourists, fair game for English practice.  I was too accustomed to being a single woman, wary of any man who comes near her.  Two years of living on my own had trained me too well.
Another American friend and I took a trip to Sapporo last spring.  There was a Thai restaurant across the street from our hotel, and my friend had never eaten Thai food before.  The restaurant was tiny, and nearly empty.  We chatted over pad thai and curry, and barely took notice when two American men entered the restaurant, although I think we were both aware when we caught snippets of English from the other side of the room.  We finished eating and went up to the register to pay. I heard one of the men call out to us. Without exchanging words or even looks my friend and I were in agreement, to ignore them and just get out of there as fast as we can.
“I said, where are you from?” they called again.  The man at the register gestured for us to turn around; ignoring them was no longer an option, but my friend froze, so I stepped up.  “America,” I told them flatly, made sure I got the change, and got my friend out the door and down the stairs, but not before we could hear the guy complain, “I was just trying to be friendly.”
We went back to our hotel room and I listened as she told me stories, one after another, of men who ignored her boundaries, who didn’t hear the word “no”.  We listened to “No Scrubs” and every other song we could think of about telling guys to back off.  For the rest of the trip she was nervous whenever we left our hotel, thinking the men from the restaurant might spot us again.
I moved back to the U.S. recently and I’m working on adjusting to all the new stuff.  New school, new people, same old America with some new flavors— I’ve never lived in a big U.S. city before, so I’ve got one hell of a learning curve to deal with.
I met a guy in my grad program who was delighted to learn that we have connections to some of the same small towns.  He seems like an okay guy, but I’m bad with strangers.  Bad with men.  During the first week of classes I saw him in the halls sometimes, and I tried to put my best Real Person Face on, use my best Grownup Manners, but I guess my apprehension showed, because the fourth time we met, he apologized.
“I’m sorry if I made you uncomfortable,” he said, “or if I gave you the wrong impression. I just want us to be good friends.”
Buddy, I thought, I am too reverse-culture-shocked and anxious to be comfortable or uncomfortable or under any impression whatsoever, and I am sick to death of trying to figure out if there is even a kernel of truth in a man who is “just trying to be friendly”.
“It’s fine,” I replied, “I’m just tired lately.”
And that brings us to today.  My roommate has invited me to go shopping with her.  She’s sitting on my left, a middle-aged man on my right.  I’ve had this feeling since he sat down like he’s trying to read my phone screen over my shoulder, and even if he’s not, his elbow in my ribs is getting on my last nerve.  It’s a crowded train, I remind myself as his knee knocks into mine again. I don’t like people touching me, even in the impersonal manner of a jostling crowd, but sometimes it can’t be helped.
“Hablas español?”
I didn’t get many chances to practice Spanish in Japan, and a part of me desperately wants to, but practicality wins out.  There are rules, and one of them is: don’t talk to strange men on the subway.
He tries again. “You speak Spanish?”
I’m trying to figure out why he would think that I might, if he saw something on my phone, if he’s just randomly asking, if I’m required to answer.  But I’m not a great actor, he knows I heard him, and my mother is in my head telling me to be polite.
“Not really.”
So he leaves me alone, aside from the occasional elbow in my side, and I wonder if I can take it back, admit it— “un poquito” —what would be the harm?  Was he trying to be friendly?  Or is it better just to let it be?  I fiddle with my bag in my lap, but I don’t feel like taking out my phone again just to wonder if he’s watching me.
“One more stop,” my roommate tells me, and underneath my purse I feel a hand on my right thigh.
“Where to after that?” I ask lightly.  Don’t raise a fuss.  Be polite.  I press down on my bag and shove it to the side, the hand slips away.
“We’re switching to the red line.”  Be polite.  Don’t raise a fuss.
The conductor calls for the last stop and we get up.  The guy is trying to talk to me again and I am trying to find the nearest door, the furthest point from him, the fastest escape in the crush of people trying to leave the train.
The only words I can pick out as the crowd carries me away are “thank you” and I can feel the ghost of a touch on my leg for the rest of the afternoon.
I’m thinking now about a girl wearing earphones to the neighborhood café to ward off old men who think they’re entitled to a conversation, about guys trying to kiss a girl at a nightclub when all she wanted was to dance—how many of my friends have told me their stories?  About a man yelling incomprehensibly out a car window in my hometown in the middle of the afternoon.  About my parents wanting to know how far I have to walk in the dark when I come home from my evening class.  Aboveground I took stock of what I was wearing, how tight my shirt was.  I asked myself what I was wearing.  As my roommate tried to Google-Maps us to the shopping center I was clenching and unclenching my fists.  A man put his hand on my thigh on the subway. It felt like a cliché, not a real thing. Wow, a creep on the subway?  What a novel concept!  I wanted to tell her what happened, but don’t raise a fuss.  I wanted to hit something, but be polite.  I wanted to scream, but what if what if what if what if what if what if what if
My mother raised me to be polite, to be kind.  I’m shy, but I love people.  I want to trust people.  I want to believe the best in them.  I don’t want to be another girl hiding inside, scared that my body isn’t my own.
So, like, I don’t know.  Fucking do better, world.

JK Fic Rec List Pt.1
Hi everyone! This is the first of weekly rec lists. Just this once, I will post this on a monday but expect them on saturday afternoons. Enjoy!
Taekook
storytime by trilluvium (14,856k words)
Of all the ways the day could have ended, narrating some stupid smutty fantasy to Jeongguk and watching him get off to it was probably at the bottom of Taehyung's list of guesses.
Comments: This is so good and so filthy without much actual sex happening. Wonderfully written, and flows at juuuust the right speed. (Also, I feel Tae’s struggle not to jump Jeongguk every second of the fic.)
way past a freak (I’m more like disgusting) by jiminsfw (13,387k words)
For an author, Jeongguk sure doesn't read much. He just wished he read more about hybrid care before getting one— now he has a bunch of things he doesn't know how to deal with. Or care for.Jeongguk wonders why hybrids didn't come with disclaimers.
Comments: Read the tags before you proceed. If you’re not into the whole feminization thing you should probably stay away, but the dirty talk in this one is truly wonderful. It also somehow manages to be both fluffy and incredibly dirty.
see me, feel me by aeterisks, aetoms (14,753k words)
Jeongguk never thought he would end up stumbling upon his Twitter crush's nsfw account, much less discover he's a camboy. As if that wasn't enough already, he ends up at Jeongguk's place with something he can't refuse.
Comments: Yes, I have a thing for social media AUs, leave me alone. I love any sort of trope where they know yet don’t know each other and mutually fanboy without realizing. This is just that, with some amazing smut.
Jikook
my body’s a single chord by namwho (13,965k words)
“What’re you still doing up?” Jimin asks, voice husky with sleep. He shuffles into Jungkook’s space and collapses down beside him, and Jungkook can feel the warmth leeching from his arm.
He locks his phone quickly, not sure why he’s so embarrassed. He’s heard the other guys talk about girls, and jerking off, and all that stuff. It’s kind of hard to avoid it when living in a dorm with seven boys. “Can’t sleep,” he mumbles, and Jimin hums in understanding.
Comments: Read the tags/warnings before you proceed. *this fic deals very vaguely with body issues, and body image, and potentially unhealthy relationships and a lack of communication feeding into these issues.* (This fic is so sweet and so real, with a nice dose of angst.)
to the naked eye by mecchayabai (5,912k words)
It’s one of those meaningless, mandatory classes, and Jungkook is fully prepare to spend it doodling dicks into his notebook. But when Jungkook sees the TA, the only thing he wants to do with a dick is stick it into him.
Comments. Just some really good jikook filth.
Sugakookie
broadcast the boom (in my chest), so they hear it by jellyfishes (21,160k words)
Yoongi tries to have casual sex on Tinder, and then he meets Jeongguk.
Comments: Funny, sweet, and entertaining. A gift for all of us sugakookie fans who appreciate a really good AU.
when breaking the rules (go hard or go home) by fruitily (13,521k words)
Jungkook gets involved with min yoongi. jimin would make a terrible secret agent, and taehyung is a lizard dealer (?)
Comments: Basically Yoongi has a Reputation™ and Kookie is both scared and drawn to him. I love this. This fic is fantastic. One of the rare ones where the side-pairings are just as interesting as the main one, and all the characters are both hilarious and well portrayed.
today & tomorrow by darling (3,553k words)
extra snippets of the life in the 'kiss & cry' universe. alt: yoongi and jungkook in love. that's pretty much it.
Comments: I cried. (If you haven’t read kiss & cry do it now, you won’t regret it.) Summary: it makes sense, perhaps, that yoongi's music only sounds right in the hands of someone who loves it just as much as he does. Basically the Yuri on Ice AU you’ve always wanted. It’s brilliant.
And that’s it for this week. Expect more new fics on Saturday, and during the week, I’ll be posting some of my favorite older ones.

A Lesson Plan for Videogame Archaeology in the Museum
Tumblr media
By Adrián Maldonado
I didn’t wake up that morning thinking I’d be playing an original Street Fighter II Championship Edition arcade console in just a few hours. It turned out to be a very good day.
So I was on Long Island recently for our annual, far-too-short family visit to America. It was also my daughter’s second birthday but it was raining and we needed an indoor activity. She loves planes, trucks and trains, and we were assured that the Cradle of Aviation Museum in Garden City has all that plus good hands-on activities and a toddler room. We were not disappointed on any of those fronts.
But unbeknownst to us, the Cradle of Aviation Museum also has a major videogame history exhibition on at the moment. And this was no ordinary rinky-dink travelling exhibit.  I’m talking all the consoles, or at least 60 different ones, all playable, alongside some 30 original arcade cabinets. Whose birthday was it again?
It’s been a minute since my last post, so get ready for a nerd onslaught. This post will attempt three things: a straightforward review of a videogame history exhibit; some sense of the wider context within videogame museums I’ve been to recently; and finally, something a bit different: a lesson plan for teaching kids about videogames in the museum. I should probably change the blog title to Things No One Asked For, Ever, but in the meantime, do enjoy the blatant work avoidance.
Capsule review
Tumblr media
This exhibit is actually a sequel. It began life as a temporary event called The Arcade Age in December 2015, which focused on recreating the experience of arcade gaming using some 50 playable cabinets. The recreated arcade was only accessible in three daily 90-minute sessions. The layout showed the influence of superhero arcadologist Raiford Guins, who was consulted for this exhibit, in its attention toward recreating the dark, cramped, noisy ambiance of an arcade. Judging by photos of the original exhibit, it also had a cool sideline on related material culture like Street Fighter II action figures and Pac-Man lunchboxes. It originally ran through April 2016, and was then extended to September 2016.
After its success, it was redesigned as a more comprehensive exhibition, From the Arcade to the Living Room: A Video Game Retrospective 1972-1999 in November 2016, now including a full history of home gaming consoles alongside a reduced but still impressive list of arcade cabinets. The website doesn’t say whether this will become a permanent exhibit, but they are selling season tickets for hardcore gamers until December 2017. It was this exhibition I stumbled upon one fateful day in June.
Tumblr media
Wall of ancestors
The games are laid out in roughly chronological order, beginning with the carcass of a Computer Space cabinet from 1971 at the start. Curator Seamus Keane has been damn near exhaustive, going beyond the usual focus on ‘Golden Age’ arcade games and providing real working examples of lesser-performing systems like the Neo-Geo and the Atari Jaguar. Fulfilling the dream of a 90s indoor kid, it was perhaps the first and last time I’ll ever play a CD-I and a 3DO (note to me 25 years ago: neither was worth the wait).
Besides the snippets of information provided next to each console, historical context was a bit light and there was no clear aim or agenda for the exhibition. Media surrounding the opening fleshed it out a little more, but not much: for curator Keane, it was “a concept I had in my head of telling what I felt was somewhat of a lost history about the social culture and the popular culture, as well as the technological history of the arcade game itself and of the arcade as a social setting.” Hope you caught all that between rounds of Marvel Vs Capcom.
There were only a few thematic displays but they worked well – a wall of ephemera included a Nintendo Power Pad, several strategy guides and a Game Genie (!). A wall display on the Great Video Game Crash of 1983 included a screen playing the documentary Atari: Game Over (2014) next to an Atari 2600 with an ET cartridge you could load yourself, a crucial part of the home gaming experience you rarely get to experience in a museum setting. A cabinet of dead peripherals was also eye-opening in an unexpected way; the juxtaposition of Sega 3D Glasses and a Sega Dreamcast mouse from a decade apart made me think of how Sega was so often ahead of its time, and yet somehow lost the console wars. In the tech world, it doesn’t always pay to be first.
Videogames in the Museum
Tumblr media
Touch the artefacts
I’ve been to several videogame museum exhibitions now (and even some videogame museums!) and can confidently say that this was one of the most fun. There was a wall of NES games and a wall of Atari games, but the core of the arcade was in a long, low-ceilinged dark hall. There, the half-assed display cards dwindled to a minimum and the game was the thing. Original cabinets, many of them with fucked-up decals from years of play, were ready to rock, no MAME here. Aside from the usual Golden Age of Arcade stuff, there were plenty of classic 90s cabinets from my era, and even some left-field entrants like Michael Jackson’s Moonwalker, which I thought was a masterpiece when I first played it in 1990 and has accrued tremendous baggage since then.
Best of all was the chronological row of home gaming consoles buried deep in the bunker-like arcade hall. Here in glowing cubicles of glass but not out of reach were the venerated SNES and Genesis games of my formative years, alongside the also-rans like the Sega Saturn. I showed my 2 year-old daughter her first game of Super Smash Bros for the N64. She picked up the control and held it up to her ear like a phone. I have never loved her more.
Tumblr media
The ragtag army of 90s CRT veterans
Each console was hooked up to a full-on CRT TV, no messing about with flatscreens, as I’ve groaned about previously. As the exhibition website puts it, they are “all on old school TV tubes!” Each TV was different from the next one, as they had clearly been scavenged piecemeal from various Long Island attics. Some had flatter screens, some bulged out lewdly, but all were hard-bitten survivors from the 90s. They are the real heroes here.
How does this rate? While the Computerspielemuseum in Berlin clearly wins out in almost every way in terms of playability, historical context and design, there was something about the scale of the recreated arcade and lack of interpretation here that charmed me. As Guins has pointed out, the material presence of the cabinets and the consoles are part of the gameplay; they are designed to draw you in and beg you to grab them, and whatever their flaws, their physical interfaces shape how the game is played.
Beyond Retro-Nostalgia: A Lesson Plan
Tumblr media
Ready player one
At one point I was able to play technician: I was able to revive a blank TV screen by switching it to channel 3. I felt like a wise elder. I also may have felt very old because I was surrounded by schoolkids. It was a weekday, and we shared the exhibit with a group of fifth-graders (Year 6 for UK readers). For once, it was genuinely interesting to share a museum with a school trip. There have always been children in the videogame exhibitions I’ve visited previously, but they’re always there with their aging nerd parents (of which I am now very much a number). It is certainly worth recording the stories told to a new generation about their cultural heritage. But it was enlightening in a different way to hear what kids said to one another when playing these games.
What I heard blew my mind. I was playing the Double Dragon (1987) arcade cabinet (I’d only ever played the NES version, so this was very exciting indeed), when two boys walked behind me – one of them said to the other, “Double Dragon! I love that game!” How did he know? What else did he know? Has the Internet already made everyone like Wade from Ready Player One? Other kids swapped stories about the games they’d tried, and I felt almost compelled to start writing these candid observations down. They were like little archaeologists unearthing the artefacts of my past and puzzling over what they might mean – but also making more interesting connections with recent games than I could with my nostalgia specs on.
On my way out I ran into one of the schoolteachers and thanked her for taking the kids here, and congratulated her on how well-behaved they all seemed to be even though they were surrounded by a hundred flashing screens. I asked whether this was part of a specific class, and she said no, they usually take the kids to the Cradle of Aviation Museum because science and whatnot, but they dropped into the arcade exhibition because it was there. I asked if they would follow it up in class at all, and she said no.
Tumblr media
The Atari Jaguar: and alternate future of 64-bit gaming
That struck me as a bit of a missed opportunity. Here were a few dozen kids having a great time in a museum, handling the technological ancestors of their favourite devices and games. The kids I heard were knowledgeable about videogames, native to them. For all the action in teaching history through videogames, there are no easily accessible resources out there to teach videogames as rare artefacts of a meaningful past. In what other museum exhibition are you allowed to handle, let alone grab and generally get all up in, the archaeology? What better way to learn than by playing?
Don’t get me wrong – museums with videogame exhibitions often provide their own series of educational resources and programmes for school visits, but a quick and very unscientific search shows little coherent agenda for dealing with the historicity of videogame and the material cultures of gaming. As more videogames end up in museums, we do the next generations a real disservice if the whole message is just about how videogames used to be pixellated and now they’re not. The game is not just the visual but the physical, and every console and medium enabled and constrained ways of playing, creating cultures of gaming. To get beyond nostalgia, we need to draw out the untold stories which will engage kids who are playing these objects for the first time.
Tumblr media
There’s at least a PhD thesis in here
Digital archaeology guru Jeremy Huggett recently reminded us about the need to deal with the historicity of technology: as the workings of our gadgets inexorably disappear into smaller and more efficient packages, we know less about how our devices work, and think little about why they are built the way they are. So break open a few controllers and cartridges to teach the history of computing. We assume a linear progression from worse to better technology on the basis that the invisible hand of the market chose the best products over time. So tell the story of the Sega Dreamcast, recognised for its merits only long after its demise. The market of ideas is always in conflict with the actual market, and real innovation is always pitted against the chance for real profit. Teach the Great Video Game Crash and its mountain of destroyed cartridges; debate the value of excavating the recent past, and what else of theirs will remain to be excavated.
It’s not all about the tech, either. You don’t have to wait for Assassin’s Creed: Cuban Missile Crisis to teach kids about the Cold War and why we’re (still) not playing nice with Russia. You can start with games like Contra and Missile Command and talk about ways in which war found its way even into children’s bedrooms in the 1980s. Maybe have a frank discussion about all those Battlefield games they’re playing now. Play the first ten seconds of Double Dragon to introduce the term ‘toxic masculinity’.
There’s a million ways to sneak learning into a trip to the arcade. Teach the kids how to critically read the artefacts; what could be more archaeological?

Since an SEO person, you should be actually fast at learning and presenting innovative tactics to stay forward in the competition, and making sure that your company appears upon the first page from the particular search engines is not because easy a job as it could appear. With all the particular talk in the SEO planet today about content and interpersonal signals it's easy to forget about just a little thing that will happens to be the base of SEO: keyword research. I am just together with you 100%, I think #0, AMP, video and all RankBrain stuff it's gonna make the particular main subjects in SEO (and marketing) for 2. 017.
Tumblr media
In today's rapidly moving world, SEO techniques can alter on the dime—and the most severe part is that you basically might not even know this. Hacks which could have earned you a front-page result simply because recently as 2016 are outdated now, but they may also hurt your website's rankings. It's a really great and knowledgeable blog to enhance your SEO ranking. Take some time plus find out about your Meta titles, description, URL readability plus how to earn featured thoughts and site links SEO's about the globe are taking click through rate seriously claiming it in order to be one of the best ranking signals. Bing has confirmed that will they track unlinked brand says and use them as the ranking signal — and the patent by Google (along along with observations from many SEO experts) indicates that Google may become doing this as well. I've seen success with producing videos lately and am searching forward to making use of your SEO suggestions to help my videos position on page 1. Plus SEO professionals are absolutely thrilled about this new opportunity mainly because featured snippets provide a possibility for low-ranking pages to get at the particular top of search results along with almost zero effort. With more than 200 ranking factors in Google's search algorithm, SEO is today a highly complex process. A SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION process may involve a website's coding and structure, content plus copywriting, site presentation, as nicely as fixing other issues that will will prevent search engines through indexing your company website. Just since Google and other search motors are using personalization more regularly in order to get more accurate search outcomes for their users, user customization has become more prevalent within SEO. The particular need to learn about brand-new entrants like Siri, Alexa, Fb, Linkedin, and specialist search motors (like, for example) will maintain SEOs on their toes regarding years to come. It took me plenty associated with time to get ready for it, in order to conduct the research and therefore forth. It is very helpful to have the information upon how the very best specialists use SEO at hand. Affected sites along with poor onpage and offpage SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION, and has a massive impact on location related search.

Digital marketing 2037: the destiny of our industry
As a nicely-which means marketer mentioned to me on twitter, 2037 is a long term away in the international of tech. How many humans may want to have predicted the sector of 2020 lower back in 1997? In all likelihood now not many, although i assume a few could have been at the money with a perceptive guess here and there. So why try to make  Digital Marketing Agencies in Cardiff predictions for 2037 now? Why had been so many those who are lively in search engine optimization, percent and pr eager to weigh in? We live in an age where thoughts of the future are charming. Even supposing we don’t know what’s going to show up, it’s amusing to consider what may. What’s greater, our guesses for the destiny, however ambitious and wild they may be, are based on an analysis of current traits unfolding around us: the rise of ai and vr, the recognition of voice seek and the increasing personalisation of seek, to call a few. Thinking about the destiny allows us to reply to the challenges of nowadays in a manner that units us up for the long time. I cherished analyzing the thoughts of digital marketers on where our enterprise might come to be in the subsequent couple of a long time. I’ve organised the excellent predictions and analyses into unique themes and interspersed them with some of my personal mind based totally on contemporary tech developments and a number of the maximum thrilling stories of the beyond few months. If you have some thoughts in this topic – even just your own wild speculations for the future – i’d love to peer them within the comments underneath! Advertising & the rise of personalisation
“search engines like google may be even extra personalised, no longer simply based totally on in which you're or what pages you’ve regarded before, however who you are,” says liam wade, percent supervisor right here at impact, “the whole lot will be biddable and target audience targeted.”
Tumblr media
 the subject matter of more personalisation in seek and social advertising and marketing emerged strongly from the remarks i obtained on the topic. A hyper-personalized future for paid campaigns appears on the playing cards, but that assumes that customers make peace with the increasingly widespread belief that if we need loose stuff on-line, we should accept that we (extra in particular, our records) are the products that social media systems and search engines like google are selling to their actual clients: advertisers.
 “the entirety may be biddable and target market focused.” – liam wade
 assuming that we nevertheless need free stuff (which appears probably) and that global information laws keep to allow for liberal use of private statistics (that is extra uncertain), adverts and search effects becomes so notably customized that an impersonal google serp or beside the point social media marketing genuinely received’t exist, specially with expanded pass-platform integration, which has already started out with microsoft’s acquisition of linkedin and facebook’s acquisition of residences like whatsapp and instagram. Writing in the verge, vlad savov commented on privateness in our courageous new global: “i’ve made the selection to sacrifice those elements of my privacy for the convenience of the offerings i exploit — i’m no longer entirely sure how conscious that preference is, whether it’s honestly really worth it, or even if i'm able to certainly pass on vacation anywhere without all of these offerings, however that’s how matters at the moment are.”
 daniel rowles, creator and virtual advertising instructor at target internet, spoke on the implications of in addition records gathering: “the accumulation of records on an entire populace of customers, combined with ai-assisted insights into why, whilst and in which clients need a service, will allow marketers to assume clients’ desires better than ever. By means of 2037, there’s a real chance that entrepreneurs will recognise what you fancy for lunch before you do. If that does transpire, they’ll be able to goal advertising towards you with absolute precision.”
 this places pressure on advertisers to make desirable use of the facts at their disposal (some thing that, like daniel, i count on may be made a lot simpler with the aid of slim ai gear) and on search/social structures to keep developing attractive approaches to show ads, which will become extra tough as we inevitably pass away from traditional information feeds into a extra visual/auditory experience (assume vr and google domestic).
 “i’ve made the choice to sacrifice the ones aspects of my privateness for the ease of the offerings i exploit.” – vlad savov
 affect’s becky carré endured at the theme of developments in search, saying, “users will be capable of seek in absolutely new ways. Voice seek and photo recognition are already warm topics in seek, specifically for advertisers, but this will be increased inside the following few years. For example, the use of your smartphone digicam to recognize a product then instantly being able to shop for it in a single-click from the nice-priced retailer.”
 “with the fragmentation of media, the old fashioned ‘spray and pay’ campaigns have gone,” commented freelance virtual advertising and marketing consultant andrew lloyd gordon, “we’re into the era of micro-personalisation, experiential advertising and 1-2-1 advertising and promotions at huge scale.”
 it looks as if inappropriate commercials might be long gone by using 2037. Something platform we’re looking on via then – but we’re ingesting digital media – we will anticipate the ads we see to be hyper-customized, possessing a scary level of perception into who we're and what we need. Can we ever have the ability to say no to an advert? Search engine optimization & the converting technology of seek
the future of search engine optimization is depending on the future of seek engine era. Since the start of the career, seos had been gambling google’s game. Google won't have liked the unethical practices of the early days, but its set of rules nonetheless rewarded them and so that they existed. Now the set of rules rewards sustainable techniques that promote high best, person-friendly websites that are technically amazing and often full of in-depth records on a particular topic. Inside the destiny, the query is not simply what the algorithm will praise, but additionally what medium will people be using to search. Will computing device searches nonetheless exist? For that remember, will any sort of ‘conventional’ search on any platform, cellular, tablet or computing device, exist? Unsurprisingly, the rising era of voice search become cited through numerous commenters. Adpilot seek strategy director, thomas shares, predicts, “the largest search engine won’t be google, however as an alternative one created to awareness totally on voice reputation.”
 however, andrew Åkesson of venn digital noticed things in another way: “i doubt voice seek as we understand it now might be dominant. For instance, fb thinks we're actively looking for something, but we aren’t ‘looking’ for it, or not as we presently perform a seek. As the human race becomes greater depending on seek, will we end up more likely to permit it have an effect on our frame if it definitely impact on our lives? It’s now not that bizarre to suppose that we can have chips in our frame that assist us find the answers we're searching out, without ‘searching.’”
Read Also:-  Google clears that it is not slowing crawling sites because of Covid-19
 as andrew recommended, i think voice is an indication of factors to return, in preference to the be all and end all of seek. It signals the motion of seek away from distinct platforms (i. E. Conventional mobile & laptop search engines) and into our ordinary utilization. Domestic assistant merchandise now not require us to go to a search engine website to locate solutions; the quest engine is only a sentence away. Following on from the previous phase, any other development is probable to be the lack of a google ‘base rank’ as search engines grow to be nearly universally customized. Freelance search engine optimization consultant zack neary-hayes commented, “i assume search effects to end up nearly 100% precise to the searcher, which may be achieved via google drilling into appreciably extra facts factors. Effects could be personalized via age, gender, pursuits, health, etc, as well as the relationships between each section. We’ve already seen this show up on a smaller scale with how google filters outcomes based on region. Humans’s searching conduct have already changed to mirror this, with human beings losing vicinity modifiers from searches. That is best step one – why might google prevent at area?”
 but, will these modifications come to fruition if search engines like google as we comprehend it appearance essentially exclusive? “the destiny of seek is product based,” predicts aaron dicks, impact’s co-founder, “as seek will become more and more integrated into related merchandise, like the clever tvs and refrigerators we already see these days, the manner that seos attain higher seek engine visibility will should change.”
 i think dependent information markup – schema or its descendants – will upward thrust in significance to the point wherein it could also be the unmarried most crucial technical consideration from an natural angle, if aaron’s product-primarily based prediction comes actual. Schema will tell the engines like google of the future exactly what reason a segment of content material serves, perhaps allowing one-of-a-kind search media to interpret content efficaciously in some of situations. Accurate markup for a product ought to, for instance, allow it to be observed and served in visible, vr-primarily based searches and auditory, voice-primarily based searches, a herbal progression from convenient understanding cards and rich snippets visible today.
 “voice is a sign of factors to come back, in preference to the be all and stop all of search.” – andrew Åkesson
 does this mean that traditional, text-primarily based content material will die? Maybe, though i suppose we’ll nevertheless eat it one manner or some other so long as we study off displays. Instead, we might also begin to see websites that want to be ‘hyper-responsive,’ able to serving optimised content to devices like home assistants and vr headsets as well as computers and smartphones (which may well be declining in importance or absolutely out of date through 2037). In preference to displaying much less content, these hyper-responsive web sites will ought to be able to serving distinct sorts of content, a good way to take canny seos with exact know-how of the constraints of various codecs and the desires in their audiences to craft. Impact’s chloe truthful considered different elements of the results of technological exchange for search engine optimization: “gear and trends in seo and cro will mean that, even as our roles nevertheless exist, our paintings could be absolutely extraordinary. Gear might be a recreation-changer for the industry; for instance, there’ll come a factor where we never should do a guide search for the purposes of natural testing once more. Creating and using gear could be a middle part of seo.”
 i agree with chloe. Tendencies in ai suggest that more and more superior automation is becoming viable. It's far potential that even well earlier than 2037 we’ll have equipment which can behavior duties like key-word research and research for content extra comprehensively that we can control now. With the assist of ai and device gaining knowledge of those gear might need some amount of human enter on the begin, but might quick develop to the factor wherein their capabilities are beyond our exact understanding. Will machines take over the execution of the strategies that they assist us to create? In element, possibly. Whilst it seems like there’ll still be innovative areas that human beings can perform in that machines can’t, perhaps that’s in reality my naivety. The decentralisation of media & pr “no longer only are print courses becoming obsolete, on line media is turning into increasingly led through visuals and audio (think podcasts). In which will this lead?” asks jess hawkes, virtual pr expert at impression, “the authority figures that created pr inside the first location are now additionally faded – we relied on relationships with the media because there was best a finite quantity of legit publications that could print your information. Now there is an abundance of ‘authoritative’ assets because every body can create content at any time from everywhere inside the global with just the tech of their pocket.”
 whose content material will we believe in 2037? Will any sort of attempt at objective, non-partisan content exist? Content throughout all media is increasingly emotionally-charged and consumed in echo chambers. My peer group was shocked whilst brexit turned into announced because they couldn’t conceive that most people of the u . S . A . Idea differently. Why? Due to the fact the ones views weren’t present on their information feeds.
 “there's an abundance of ‘authoritative’ assets due to the fact anyone can create content at any time from everywhere within the international with simply the tech in their pocket.” – jess hawkes
 people study and percentage what the humans they consider read and percentage, bolstered via feeds on fb, twitter and google that display you more of what you’ve looked at within the beyond. This means that politically charged articles or opinion pieces that strike an emotional chord with a particular on line network are lots more attractive to publishers than more balanced articles. But, brands often can not come up with the money for to be seen to be partisan. Assuming the echo-chamber fashion keeps, how will manufacturers’ impartial content spoil into increasingly more remoted online groups? Amelia easten of plant-powered pr shared her mind on the topic, “we’re currently dwelling in a polarised global. Environmental issues, equal rights, toddler labour laws… they’ve in no way been extra essential and it’s unclear which manner the coin is going to fall, with or towards them. As the world actions closer to ethical groups with transparent practices, we need powerful digital marketing with the equal values.
 “in 2037 for the sector to development and live on, ethical organizations need to lead the manner, with digital marketing companies selling them now that a lot happens on line,” amelia endured, “we need organizations to realize that we’re on their aspect, and that we’re allies no longer fighters, and for this we need to exercise transparency ourselves and stop hiding at the back of our keyboards. As we circulate into millennials being the bulk of the workforce, meaning seo and digital advertising is greater broadly understood, our palms might be forced with this anyway – we won’t be able to cover at the back of jargon anymore. It'll be exciting to look who survives the following twenty years, and which manner the sector will pass. Content throughout all media is more and more emotionally-charged and consumed in echo chambers. One trend that seems set to provide fruitful results for a long time coming is the use of pop-tradition. I’m assured on this prediction due to the fact this has been a content material strategy for decades already throughout all varieties of media and suggests no sign of slowing down. Tapping into popular television indicates and movies that transcend political boundaries has been fruitful for lots brands, and could possibly retain into the future. Manufacturers’ fulfillment can also be continually fashioned through how they adapt to changing records consumption habits. Organizations that are slow to adopt pictures and visual content material are currently in risk of being left behind by savvier competition. In 2037, will the main logo voices be generating vr content reports? Jess summed up her mind at the changing state of pr, saying, “the connection aspect of pr will eventually decline, with boards and open structures for records sharing turning into more dominant. Getting content material published received’t be approximately who you are or your dating with a writer, however how exciting and shareable it is. This shift would possibly truly start improving the first-rate of content material and if now not, as a minimum there’s less room for bias.”
 the changing face of social
“fb will have a paid-for platform a good way to include an option to take away ads if you subscribe, however won’t be the biggest social media platform anymore,” predicts thomas shares of adpilot. Thomas’s prediction raises an essential question: how many ads can social media users tolerate earlier than some thing has to exchange? The solution may be that there may be no restriction, however if facebook and other social platforms increase into vr (as facebook is already doing with spaces) with no seamless manner to integrate ads, their presence may also turn out to be increasingly more demanding for users, leading to a decrease within the roi of social advertising and marketing and a decrease in how many advertisements facebook and other structures can sell. If this turns into the case, how do social media giants make money? We’ve already visible twitter struggling to reply this query in latest years. Will fb, instagram and the rest be the subsequent to understand they ought to adapt or die? Their popularity isn’t in question, but their primary supply of profits is every other be counted. Influence’s becky carré sees a one-of-a-kind challenge for fb mainly. She concurs with thomas that facebook will now not be the primary social media platform, persevering with, “wechat already has a near-monopoly in china, allowing users to do the whole lot from message friends, store on-line, order a taxi or find someone to head on a date with – it’s all your most-used apps rolled into one.
 “the reality all transactions and interactions are executed with out leaving the app means the quantity of consumer information wechat can acquire approximately a unmarried user is amazing. I accept as true with wechat could have taken off in a similar manner inside the west inside the next decade.”
 “fb will have a paid-for platform with a purpose to include an option to cast off ads if you subscribe.” – thomas stocks. My own feeling is that social media turns into increasingly ruled by visible and auditory media – this trend already exists with the popularity of instagram and sorts of posts that get engagement on facebook and twitter. The upward thrust of vr will make this trend even greater distinguished. What will a vr social feed seem like? Do we see our pals in realtime lobbies (something that already exists)? Do we watch vr films and ship messages with voice/notion, seamlessly transferring from newsfeeds to something altogether extra immersive? I can’t assist but bear in mind how social structures would monetise something like this without a feed that we are able to scroll through. I'm wondering if vr platforms may want to undertake a youtube-esque pre-roll advert system, where users are taken into an advertorial enjoy earlier than whatever else it changed into they have been planning to do. Such ads, if designed nicely, could be relatively effective, specifically in the early years of giant vr usage. By way of 2037, they will be the norm. Every other possibility is spotify-esque audio commercials. Those might be much less immersive, but less complicated to disregard, which may inspire human beings to tolerate them. It’s difficult to inform whether social vr will make ads simpler or harder for customers to avoid. Ai and automation
a dialogue of ai and automation inside the context of virtual advertising is unavoidably broad, specially when considering modifications twenty years into the future. One subject matter that is of awesome importance to virtual entrepreneurs, however, is what ai and automation will do to our jobs. Some of the adjustments and variations noted already in this newsletter provide clues, but thomas shares addressed this trouble head on in any other of his comments, “in terms of jobs within the digital advertising and marketing quarter, i think they’ll continually exist because of route, you could application a robotic/machine to work out a consumer’s cause or behaviour but the planning of a campaign, the consultancy aspect of advertising and the care detail proven via an account supervisor can’t be replicated via machinery. Ai and automated gear or scripts might be like 2nd-nature to us, however this could just make human beings in the enterprise more green, now not redundant.”
i agree with thomas – providing that ai inside the next 20 years remains rather much like its current state, which is not a given. As long as our machines can certainly be defined as ‘narrow’ ai (i. E. Capable of acting just one project very well) our jobs will probable live on alongside the sort of tools and software that thomas and chloe (who commented in the search engine optimization section) have mentioned. However, it is possible, if not going, that ai will take a giant bounce ahead in the subsequent 20 years, making the modern accomplishments of ai generation seem like pong in comparison to fifa 18. If we take a step in the direction of wellknown ai, there’s no manner of telling what it's going to and won’t be able to do, and it won’t simply be virtual advertising jobs underneath hazard, both. We can be staring at the need to restructure the worldwide economic system…however that’s surely beyond the scope of this submit. If we take a step in the direction of preferred ai, there’s no manner of telling what it'll and won’t be capable of do. After an interview with google’s sundar pichai, dieter bohn wrote this in the verge: “essentially, [sundar pichai’s] question approximately every hardware product is ‘how can we practice ai to rethink our products?’ he doesn’t need to make ai just another feature, he wants ai to basically regulate what every device is.”
 i’ll return, in brief, to more concrete predictions now. Narrow ai is very, very good at training itself to predict values for unknown information, as an example, how much you'll earn in step with year if you’ve had x years of higher schooling or you have x qualification. This can cause a great deal extra personalisation in advertising and marketing/search engines like google, but also has implication for seo and content material tools. Competitor evaluation or research for a content material task will be completely automatic, and a whole method could be advised. Consider you want to write down a fashion manual for a purchaser’s internet site (a assignment i finished simply last month) – the whole research system will be automatic by means of an ai that analyses thousands and thousands of images containing applicable clothing or items of apparel earlier than returning to the human operator some synthetic photos that nice seize the trends it’s observed. I assume the execution of those tasks, like writing the guide, will remain within the realm of human actors for foreseeable future, but equipment powered via system gaining knowledge of will make research and gathering insights from facts faster and extra precise. The future of ecommerce
every other remark from adpilot’s thomas stocks were given me thinking about ecommerce: “amazon may be the cross-to region for each product – consisting of healthcare, new automobiles (in all likelihood flying ones) and journeys to space.”
 at the same time as ecommerce and digital advertising and marketing are separate, a lot of us work for ecommerce businesses or with ecommerce customers. My prediction is that vr/ar will impact ecommerce in methods that the virtual marketing industry isn't presently organized for, probably even earlier than 2037. Let’s use furnishings for example. Digital ‘showrooms’ exist already, wherein you operate ar to look how a brand new sofa could appearance for your living room. As vr/ar will become greater vast, it’s now not a stretch to suppose that this functionality ought to end up a middle part of the web income funnel. Instead of travelling ikea, you can see products in the context of your house as you search for them online. This may present a task for search engines like google. How are you going to move slowly and index pages like this? My wager is that a few shape of schema markup will inform search engines what users are seeing. However, optimising a page like this could require a one-of-a-kind mindset to optimising a current category/product web page. The focus is much less on written content and key phrases, and more on an correct description of the visual merchandise, perhaps in a way that’s most just like the image alt tags we've presently. Vr/ar will impact ecommerce in approaches that the digital advertising and marketing industry is not currently organized for, probable even earlier than 2037. As with any search improvements, agencies which can be short to evolve are possibly to look huge benefits of their organic visibility. Traditionally, this would be an opportunity for smaller companies to get the bounce on bigger businesses which might be slower to conform, but price range constraints could be a element here. A company will should have a substantial media budget to be had to get their merchandise vr ready and the technical knowhow to optimise them. It looks as if a step on this route may want to reason giants like amazon to go away smaller competition further in the back of. The most effective way i ought to see the trend not heading in this path is if vr tech drops in fee and turns into extensively handy before search engines like google select up on it, which appears not going because the organizations at the back of the big serps (google & microsoft) are already heavily invested in vr/ar. What's going to appear to the broader industry?
“my notion is that ‘advertising’ as a concept could have changed; i don’t suppose it will be referred to as ‘digital advertising’ anymore,” predicts virtual method consultant andrew lloyd gordon, “advertising has shifted so much inside the closing twenty years. And the shift has best just began.”
 if the advent of vr and new social/conversation technologies leads to greater holistic, revel in-primarily based media intake ought to blur the traces among on line and offline advertising and marketing to the volume that the change ‘virtual’ is no longer needed to distinguish on line advertising from offline.
 “advertising and marketing as a idea can have modified; i don’t think it will be referred to as ‘digital advertising’ anymore.” – andrew lloyd gordon
 ben michaelis, managing director of thinkengine, stated, “digital advertising will evolve to be extra digital experience targeted. You may see a rise of groups and organizations specialising on this area.
 “i accept as true with you will see a shift in the needs of clients (very just like the shift we’re already seeing within the retail area) and the ‘enjoy’ turns into as vital because the advertising and marketing.”
 any other fashion within the wider tech industry that has implications for virtual advertising is the dominance of so-called ‘huge tech’ corporations like google and fb. Andrew lloyd gordon notes, “marketing to human beings online already way ‘doing what google or fb permits and wishes’. This trend is accelerating and until governments step in to break up their power, entrepreneurs gained’t be able to reach mass customer markets very without problems themselves (regardless of traditional corporations, who might also have disappeared by then).”
inside the current fashion, the largest tech agencies are already making it hard for startups to be successful out of doors in their all-encompassing umbrellas, with the aid of shopping for out or copying a success startups till all that stays is the large. Google, fb, microsoft and amazon are 4 of the most outstanding ‘large tech’ companies leading the way when it comes to innovation, and all of them have search engines like google and yahoo or platforms that entrepreneurs ought to paintings on or with. Digital entrepreneurs will have to play by using their policies for as long as their monopoly stays intact, but those guidelines are in all likelihood to extend into vr and across more recent kinds of media, even if search and social advertising and marketing turn out to be searching very one-of-a-kind two decades from now. Loads has been stated about the possible future of virtual advertising in  Digital Marketing Agencies in Glasgow the destiny, however there’s loads extra we may want to have protected. What do you watched our industry will appear to be in 2037? Tell me what you think inside the remarks underneath!

Being Healthy on the Inside and Out – Part 2
Following on from my article last month, I introduced you to the exciting new product that we are developing behind the scenes that’ll help us attract more business owners into the Renegades circle.
Everyone wants different things, but we all want to be successful and this month I continue to discuss what an important part your health and wellbeing plays in being healthy on the inside and out. I firmly believe that if you look after yourself in a small way, you’re better equipped to deal with the demands of running a business and juggling a family and private life.
Let’s be fair, if you feel like shit then you normally can’t muster up enough effort to have a great day. You may get away with the odd day for a cough or cold but if its sustained then everything suffers. This is why when I appraised myself and my situation, I knew things had to change for the better.
How many times have you used that old excuse of working long, tired, no time? Bollocks! It’s a matter of priorities.
Your biggest asset is you and your health and well-being. It doesn’t matter if you have the best ideas, or you are the greatest ever entrepreneur – when you’re dead, you’re dead! If you can’t muster up the energy to do everyday tasks then you’re going to struggle with the demands of running a business, being an entrepreneur, a wife, mother, husband, and a father.
I discovered that if I wanted to work on me, then I had to make time for me.
The good Lord isn’t making any more time.
Your biggest asset is you and your health and well-being. It doesn’t matter if you have the best ideas, or you are the greatest ever entrepreneur – when you’re dead, you’re dead
It doesn’t matter who you are or how much money you have, there’s still only 24 hours in a day. At some stage in that day you have to factor in sleeping and eating, the rest is up for grabs.
I heard a great saying the other day, “Busy is a choice”, I love that saying. How many times do you ask, “How are you?” or “How’s things?” and the reply is, “I’m so busy”. My inner voice screams “Really, really, everyone’s bloody busy”!! I obviously don’t say that, if someone has a genuine problem, I love to help but, on most occasions, they’re just moans and groans about life in general and life choices that people make.
My father used to say whenever he was asked that, “How are you?” question, he would always say “Good, Excellent or Great”.
I found out, as I grew up, he’s a wise man, he used to say, “It doesn’t matter if life is bad and things are getting you down, nobody wants to hear about how bad it is, so they simply don’t listen”.
He’s right, if you ask someone how they are, and they start back with, “Terrible because Auntie Ethel’s got a cold and Mum’s cat got run over….” Straight away you think shut up and switch off. We all have our own issues and problems.
What I’ve found is by saying, “Excellent” or “Super Well” people genuinely say, “really, how so” and are now interested and perked up themselves. I’d much rather people say, “Steve is such a positive person, always happy…” Than “Did you see Steve today, he’s a miserable old bastard…” your behaviour and demeanour can positively or negatively affect you and those around you.
I said I would share what works for me so here goes:
The alarm is set of 0545, I either go to the gym or I get to the office, whether that’s the home office or work office. I try and do between 3 and 5 workouts a week. Doing it by yourself at that time of the morning can be tough, so get a kindred spirit or do as I did and get a personal trainer. When I started that, could I afford it? No, my mindset was, could I afford not to? The answer again was. . . No. You don’t need to be loaded to get a trainer, again it’s about priorities. A decent trainer will cost you about £25 a session, that’s 3 bottles of wine a week or one take away – you pick!
I normally do 2 sessions with the trainer a week, Monday and Friday mornings are my preferred choice. Monday ensures the odd glass of wine on a Sunday lunch doesn’t spread to two bottles over the day! Friday finishes the week off when the energy levels can be sagging slightly and sets the weekend up perfectly. On the other occasions I’ll do a session the trainer has given me, hit the weights or even take a class in the gym.
One way I have found that spurs me on besides the thought of getting killed by my trainer is to set myself crazy challenges. I have done Duathlons, Obstacle Courses, Triathlons, 10K runs, I’ve already mentioned that Cardiff Half Marathon.
Most recently I set myself a target of raising £10,000 for a Cancer Hospital that saved my Mother’s life when she had breast cancer. She was 70, it was 15 years since she had the treatment. I agreed to cycle 400 miles in 5 days across the North Island of New Zealand with a bunch of other crazy folk I had never met before. That kept me going for a year!
On other days when I get in the office, I try not to get into work stuff until after 0830. That’s the same as if I’ve been training. On these days I do some self-development stuff. I write, I read, I listen or learn.
Recently I’ve started using an App called Headspace to meditate and that has really helped my sense of wellbeing.
The App allows you to meditate even if you’ve never had a go before or if you are a seasoned expert. It helps you and sets you on course.
For me I found it when I was struggling with a feeling of anxiety, but I use it now most days just to give my mind that time, perhaps 20 minutes, to switch off and declutter.
It certainly helps me as I find myself thinking fast from the moment my eyes open until they close at bed time.
Meditation gives me that peace and time to put things back in the places they should be. It’s like my brain files things where they should be while I am concentrating on my breathing!!!
These mornings are my saviour and it’s my working on “me time”.
A word here for all those people who say, “Oh I hate mornings” or “Sorry, I don’t do mornings. I was one of you, but I changed because I wanted to, and I saw the value in changing. I made a choice, you can too.
If you had asked my wife if she could see me getting up before 6am and doing what I do now, she literally would have died laughing. When we first met, I’d be in bed until after 8 most days. I was lazy and depressed. That allowed the negativity to keep eating away and I gave it the fuel it needed to survive by my routines and choices.
I find that once I’ve started the day off well, I make a sensible breakfast choice, I have energy, I feel good and that feeds through the rest of the day. When I feel like that and a challenge comes in then I’m ready to face it and find it easy to roll with the ups and downs of the day with a positive frame of mind. When I was in a bad place and bad routines then if a challenge came in, I’d blame every man and his dog and wished I’d never got up, the negativity would feed my day and it would go pair shaped from there.
There’s a saying, “Win the morning – Win the day”, and there have been loads of books and people to follow on this. Miracle Morning is a book that I read. It advocates getting up very early. I liked it but I made my own way. One guy that I follow on Social Media is Jocko Willick. He’s an American ex-Navy Seal Commander and he’s passionate about his morning rituals. He has started a 0430 club on twitter and takes a photo of his watch every morning showing something like 0431 Rise and Shine with his favourite #getafterit. Maybe he appeals to my ex forces mentality, but it does make me smile.
The morning is key for me. But what time is best for you? When will you be able to start a positive routine and stick to it?
I get the exercise done and, in the bag, early doors. It’s at a time that doesn’t give me an excuse that it could hamper with family – they are all still in bed and work can’t get in the way because that hasn’t started yet either. It gives me time to think and plan and I can sometimes kill two birds with one stone by listening to an audiobook or podcast while training. Self-development and exercise done by 7.30am!! If you honestly think you have no more time in the day – set your alarm earlier. I appreciate that those with young children may disagree but find your space at other times. If you have a young family, that normally means they are in bed for 8pm so instead of watching Netflix with a glass of wine, start your positive routine then. Get your running shoes on or just do something with your spouse or partner, read a book, work on yourself until 10pm. I know you’re tired, funny enough I am in the morning when I wake up for the gym! It’s a matter of choices. As I said at the beginning, be happy with your choices but don’t complain if they are not serving you.
One thing that does help me on those early mornings is a positive mantra I say to myself every morning when I wake up and swing my legs out of the bed onto the floor. As I sit there for a moment gathering myself together, I just say, “Great people do great things” and I’m away. Its sounds better than, “Move fatty!” I am sure you’ll agree. Find your mantra, something that works for you. There are no shortage of great quotes and motivational snippets to help inspire you. Just Google “Motivational Quotes”. Another of my clients was hit by the idea in one of our sessions to use the phrase, “You choose your attitude” and he uses that every day now. That has worked well for him.
Napoleon Hill talks about positive affirmations and mantras in his famous book Think and Grow Rich in the chapter Auto Suggestion. If you haven’t read that then that can be one of the first things you do in your new routine!!
Look at every aspect of your day and how you can install good positive routines that eventually become habits. Email can suck the life out of every day. We’re fixated in holding our smart phones and replying instantly to emails as they arrive. Try and segment the day and only answer emails at certain times of the day.
Again, I don’t have all the answers, many will have all the excuses, others will give it all a try and adapt to make it fit for them and gain little wins and that’s all you can hope for.
Fact of the matter is this. . . If you want things to change in your life you have to make changes yourself. If you keep doing what you’ve done, you keep getting what you’ve got. Think into your life and what you want from it, I doubt that lethargy, reactive and negative will be words at the top of anyone’s list. If that is the case make sure what you do every day ensures those words can’t get on your list as its filled with other more positive ones like confidence, proactive, energy, positivity etc.
Your behaviour and demeanour can positively or negatively affect you and those around you
There will be some tough choices and you need to give yourself a talking to in order to stop the lure of Netflix and the red wine bottle but, remember, these are YOUR choices – nobody makes them for you.
A great routine doesn’t have to start at 5am, what about 8am or 11am, what about using your lunch break or 3pm. Why not 9pm?
Do something every day that evolves around your values and energises you.
Walking, reading, meditating, breakfast with your family, a song sung at the top of your lungs with the kids on the school run. Whatever it is makes little difference, as long as it’s positive.
Give yourself permission to spend time working on you. One of my clients has triplet girls and the mornings are filled already with breakfasts, teeth cleaning, school uniforms, hair, pony tails and that’s before 7am!! How can you possibly throw some me time in there? We talked about giving himself permission to take an hour in the day, after all he works late, after the girls have gone to bed so why can’t he allow himself that hour in the day. By giving yourself permission, you avoid that feeling of guilt, “I should be at my desk…” that feeling is serving nobody. I’m sure that when you spend that Saturday morning at your desk you’re thinking, “I should be with my family” or when you work to 10pm every evening you say, “I should be with my wife”. That feeling is common amongst us business owners and is not helpful. If you’re like me, you’ll never get it spot on but with permission you will be better at it.
There are so many other things that people do and believe in, like journaling and time blocking but I don’t do those things.
Other people make to do lists, but I find that they make you feel pressured and worse, especially as we tend to make long ones and leave them unfinished.
This leads to frustration, feeling of inadequacy and helplessness.
Something that I do and advocate for everyone’s health and wellbeing is to write that list and make it as long as you want but when it’s done sit there and get a highlighter pen and mark the one, most important thing that you can do today that makes today a success.
Once you’ve done that, just do that one and you can leave the office with a win.
It doesn’t matter how big or small that task is but by highlighting it as the one thing and doing it – you’ve won the day and you can go home with a sense of accomplishment.
How many times do you write that list and don’t even do anything but spend all day running around like a crazy person? You fill the entire day and sometimes don’t even have time for lunch. When you get home your lovely spouse says, “How was your day?” and you feel like you’ve achieved nothing.
You can stop that ever happening again by picking that one thing and doing it.
Go home every day a winner.
That’s a great tip for being healthy on the inside and the outside.
All the things I’ve outlined over the last two months help me achieve good health on the inside and the outside.
Routines
Exercise
Self-Development
Meditation
Mindful of outside negativity
Never compare yourself to others
Doing what is right and works for you
Daily mantras
Positivity
Challenge yourself
Owning and taking responsibility for your choices
So, over to you –
How can you feel healthy on the inside and the out – every day?
What will you do tomorrow morning that could change your entire day?
How can that first hour really set you up to win the day.
What will you say to yourself when you put your feet on the floor as you sit on the edge of the bed? What will your mantra be?
What will you give yourself permission to do today?
Be intentional about looking after yourself on the inside and the outside and it’ll make a huge difference in your life.
Good luck!
