Don't Ask Questions You Already Know The Answer To: an Avatar one-shot
📢SPOILER WARNING FOR AVATAR 3: plot is inspired by script leaks!📢
When the RDA recaptures Spider months after the Battle at Three Brothers Rock, they make a shocking discovery: he now has the ability to breathe Pandoran air without a mask. This is a cause for celebration. Ardmore believes the sci-ops crew can study Spider's body and find a way to replicate his miraculous ability in other humans. All of a sudden, humanity’s future on Pandora isn't limited to metal facilities and exopacks. They now have not just a chance to survive on Pandora, but to thrive.
While the sci-ops crew move forward with their invasive investigation, Spider asks Quaritch a hard question: “If they decide to kill me, will you let them?”
This idea has been itching my brain for awhile and I just had to scratch it! Don't worry, I'm still working on my other fic, I just needed to scratch this itch. I hope you enjoy! And if anyone is interested in me expanding on this one-shot, please let me know cause I'm open to that if there's interest, though BITTW will come first of course!

Loved the new chapter! I was on the edge of my seat! (between you with Custody and @jeanniebug623 with Silent as Shadows, you two are gonna give me a heart attack!)
How close do you estimate we are to the ending? I feel like we're in the endgame now!
I still have to read Silent as Shadows, it’s on my to do list for sure 🫶🫶 And congrats to you on finishing BITTW even if it wasn’t all exactly as you first planned!!
Custody was supposed to be one chapter more but it’s now two chapters more because somebody cannot stop writing long chapters lol! We are definitely hurtling in the direction of the ending though. It’s all gonna go down very soon 🤭 <3

Blood is Thicker than Water
Many thanks to the lovely @papalogia, who answered my request for prompts that would work for a Mikoto & Madara Uchiha broship. The very first prompt she sent spawned an AU that will very likely turn into an episodic series.
Episode One: In Which Madara’s Assumptions Make an Ass Out of Him. (But It All Works In His Favor In the End.)
“You didn’t gag me, so I’ll assume that there’s no one around to hear me scream.”
Madara aborted his plans to check the perimeter of the hastily established camp in favor of staring at the woman tied to the tree in the center of it.
When he had kidnapped the Uchiha matriarch, disgusted at the way his clan seemed to have fallen from their former prominence in only a few generations, Madara had expected a delicate flower, chosen for breeding over power. This woman seemed to fit all of his expectations: elegantly and neatly dressed, no scars from weapons, long hair that was left to hang loose, spent most of her day confined to the main house...
Hearing that particular sentence from her mouth certainly changed things.
“Excuse me?” he spluttered with his usual eloquence.
“Abduction 101,” she replied patiently. “If you’re making camp close to civilization, make sure your prisoner is gagged. Otherwise they make too much noise, and you’ll have everyone and their uncle trooping in to see what’s going on. Now, most people who resort to kidnapping have no problems killing those who get in their way, but there’s usually a good number of people who show up to save damsels in distress. I doubt even you could kill them all, Madara-sama.”
He spluttered again. How did this woman know not only his name, but how to properly transport prisoners?
She smirked at him, and he watched astounded as her eyes slowly changed, morphing into the familiar red and black patterns of the first stage of the sharingan. “It may not be your mangekyo, Madara-sama, but I’m hardly a civilian. Now, why don’t we sit down like shinobi and discuss why you felt you had to kidnap the clan matriarch?”
The woman stood gracefully, shaking the kinks from her muscles as the ropes slid away from her body to pool on the floor. With perfect poise and posture, she knelt next to the fire he had built and reached for his pack, deposited carelessly on the ground.
Rummaging in the pack, she tsked at something she found, but pulled out his collapsible cooking pot and filled it with a nifty little suiton jutsu (he wasn’t envious of that at all, no sir) before dropping one of the prepackaged soup rations in it before setting it on the outskirts of the fire, where it would simmer away happily until they were ready for it.
All of this, of course, had been conducted with the precision and elegance as if she had been performing a tea ceremony for the daimyo.
“Sit, Madara-sama,” she murmured, sounding like a well-bred matriarch, but the hint of sharingan when she looked up from under her eyelashes to glance at him proved that otherwise. “We have a discussion to conduct.”
And that was how Madara found himself sitting across the fire from the current Uchiha matriarch, as they discussed plans to reform the Uchiha clan as it currently was.
“My husband and the elders feel that a violent coup is the only solution,” the woman, Mikoto she had informed him, said, tone dripping with well-bred disapproval. “They whine and complain about how the Sandaime is treating them unfairly, how the Uchiha’s star is waning in the eye of the village, but they do nothing to dispel the ugly rumors about us.”
“You do not side with them?” Madara asked, surprised. Surely the matriarch would be loyal to her own clan?
“Hardly,” she sniffed. “When I accepted my hitai-ite, I swore my loyalty to my village, knowing that my clan would always come second. While the Sandaime does appear to have been unfair to my clan, there are other ways. Has Fugaku asked for an audience with the Sandaime? Has he brought his grievances before the other clan heads as is his right? No, he sulks in his police station and grumbles over the unfairness of it all!” Mikoto’s eyes, having reverted to their normal onyx color when he sat down, flashed red with the sharingan. “And worse,” she continued, her voice so cold that Madara couldn’t help but shiver. “He wishes to use my son as a spy against the village. Against my better wishes, I allowed Fugaku to push Itachi forward when he showed promise, but I will not stand by and make my son choose between his parents and the village, even if I have to announce our discontent in the middle of the village square!”
Madara sat open eyed as he watched the matriarch’s ire grow. Even his own great-grandmother, whom he had heard was one of the better matriarchs, had not been so formidable. By tradition, the strongest kunoichi in the clan, so long as she could be spared from the battlefield, married the clan heir, and ran the defense of the clan compound while the bulk of the forces were fighting other clans. She was supposed to be capable of defending the women, the children, the wounded, and the elders, with everything in her, so that if the compound was to fall, they would not fall quietly.
Having never taken a matriarch himself, he had left the position empty until his heir assumed leadership, installing his own wife in the position of matriarch even though the woman had few of the necessary qualifications. It had left him with a sour feeling in his stomach, one that had only gotten worse as he had watched Uchiha Mikoto before abducting her.
Now, he was pleasantly surprised by her ferocity, her loyalty to both the clan and village, and her protectiveness of her son. This was a woman who could redeem the Uchiha clan from its current lethargy, and restore it to its former greatness.
“I could help with your problem,” he offered, watching her for her reaction. “It was my intention to force changes upon the clan when I came to Konoha.”
“And thus you abducted the matriarch?” she replied dryly, passing him a bowl of soup that she had just served.
“That was one of the first steps of my plan.”
“Swear loyalty to the village, and to the clan that we will shake out of its lethargy,” she demanded. “Swear it by the grave of Uchiha Izuna.”
Damn, Madara thought, shocked once again by this kunoichi’s knowledge of him. She will be a formidable ally.
But he obediently closed his hand gently around a kunai until the skin broke and swore his allegiance to the clan and to the village on his brother’s grave, the only thing he held truly sacred these days.
“Now,” Mikoto said, sipping daintily from her bowl. “You’ve been branded a missing-nin, so we’ll need to fix that first.”

Hi I Love Blood Is Thicker Than Water.❤️❤️❤️
Do you have any other Spider and Quaritch Fanfic Planned?
I'm glad you enjoyed it 💙
Yes, I do have another multi-chapter Spider and Quaritch fanfic planned that would act as a sequel to my one shot, "Don't Ask Questions You Already Know The Answer To," but I'm not ready to start it yet. I need a break after BITTW, plus my personal life is very busy rn. In the meantime, I'm gonna get around to answering the awesome writing prompts folks have sent me with some one-shots!
Even though I haven't started writing it yet and probably won't for a long while, I wrote up a little description of it just for fun :) lmk what you think!
"Along Came Spider"
Quaritch spent his whole life knowing exactly what he believed in: a better future for humanity, no matter the cost— even if that cost was murder. He never doubted himself, never questioned his mission. His loyalty never wavered.
And then along came Spider.
Now, Quaritch has thrown away everything he ever believed in for the sake of his son. The RDA brands him a traitor for disobeying orders, while the Na’vi outcast Spider for saving his life. With no plan and no allies, they’re forced to flee to a strange, harsh land inhabited by a clan that’s even stranger and harsher. Taken prisoner by this tribe of heretical warriors, the only thing they can depend on is each other. But even with all the bridges they burned, the past still haunts them. Quaritch nurses his hunger for revenge against Jake, while Spider dreams of forgiveness from his friends. Surviving their new captors and their unhealed wounds will either drive the father and son further apart, or bring them closer than ever before— if they survive at all.

You can't say this is a coincidence 😂🤣😜 What can I say, some families take their photoshoots very seriously and they sit wherever they are across the 🌍 just to have matchy poses. There is no better bond than that of those you've loved growing up with ❤ (bond thicker than a snicker 😉🙃🍫) Grateful for the impact you guys and mama have on me. #Fambam #FamilySunday #GoodTimes #PoseForDays #Sitfie <(attempt at bad coining of selfie for those seated-ish) #FoursomeTrouble #Grown #Squad #BITTW #InfinityLove #TrueBlue 💞 (at Somewhere On Earth)

Distance: Blood is Thicker Than Water
Distance
(In which Hatake Kakashi starts to think that spending all those years with his head in the sand was maybe kinda sorta a bad thing)
Genin assignments were handed out, and Hatake Kakashi scanned his list dispassionately. The Uchiha kid was a bit of a surprise; Kakashi had honestly pegged Itachi’s little brother for Asuma’s team. It would go a long way to proving that the Sandaime had no hard feelings about the failed attempt at a coup that the Uchiha had put down within their own ranks. Having the clan head’s younger son be placed under the Hokage’s son, it was a pretty powerful signal that the Uchiha were trusted, instead of just pawning the kid off on a misanthropic ex-ANBU like Kakashi.
The girl was a complete unknown to him; likely from civilian parents or parents who had been from the civilian ranks and never made much of a name for themselves. He skipped over her name to the last assignment, and it felt like a punch in the gut.
Uzumaki Naruto.
Is it karma? He wondered, three hours later as he stood in front of the memorial stone, a habit he still hadn’t managed to kick, even with Obito’s return and the truth of Rin’s death out in the open between them. Am I going to be forced to face every mistake I’ve ever made?
It took him another three hours to peel himself away from the stone, and, unsurprisingly, he was the last jounin to pick up his students. Iruka gave him a nasty look before pointing him towards the door, but underneath it all, there seemed to be a shred of...was that pity? And perhaps a hint of vindictive amusement?
Thoroughly confused, Kakashi opened the door to the classroom.
Only the slightest rasp of metal on wood had him diving out of the way, but he had to abort that movement as another fleet of senbon propelled themselves through the air in his flight path. An ungraceful tuck and roll, and he was back on his feet, right about even with the teacher’s desk, when something smacked into his face, white powder billowing everywhere.
Carefully, he breathed through his mask, suppressing the instinctive cough. His nose told him that he had been hit with the blackboard eraser, explaining why he was now fully covered in chalk, and he wanted to wash his hands of this whole mess already.
“First impression?” he drawled, sweeping his uncovered eye over the trio in front of him. The girl looked nervous, but the two boys looked completely unrepentant. “I hate you all. Meet me on the roof.”
He shunshined out of the room and positioned himself so that he could watch the stairs, waiting for them to come huffing and puffing up as they glared daggers at him.
What he didn’t expect was for Uchiha Sasuke to be only a step behind him, smirking cockily as he twirled a familiar looking kunai in his hand. Before Kakashi could even attempt to put the pieces together and get the answer he knew he was not going to like, there was a brilliant flash of yellow light, and his other two students appeared, the girl looking both intrigued and startled, and Uzumaki Naruto looking like a perfect mix of his parents as he came to stand next to Sasuke.
“You overloaded it, idiot,” the Uchiha pointed out with a sigh. “Look at what you’ve done. You’ve blinded him completely.”
“Well, sorry that I had to put a little bit extra into it because I was taking a passenger,” the blond grouched as he folded his arms over his chest. “I just got that one working right so I didn’t land on you. Aiming just to your left is a little more difficult with twice the weight to redirect.”
“Was that the Yondaime’s jutsu?” the girl asked, studying Naruto with wide eyes. “The Hiraishin that earned him his nickname?”
“Yeah,” Naruto said, sheepishly scratching the back of his head. “I know one of the Yondaime’s old guards, who was one of the only three that ever learned the Hiraishin. Between him and Sasuke’s cousin, who was one of the Yondaime’s students, we managed to work it out.”
“Is it something anyone can learn?” she asked, and Kakashi was amazed to see what he could only describe as rapt interest in her eyes. “I mean, everyone says it’s some super awesome jutsu that only he could use, but if both of you could use it…”
“He’s only been doing it for a month,” Itachi’s brother interjected bluntly, sticking the kunai that Kakashi was now willing to identify as one of Minato-sensei’s, or at least a fair replica, in his kunai pouch. “They wouldn’t let him try it until he worked on his chakra control and got it to something fairly reasonable.”
“Show me how to work on it?” the girl asked eagerly, and Kakashi felt his plan, the little of it that he had, slipping away from him far faster than he would like.
Cutting across whatever the boys were going to say, he crossed his arms over his chest and gave them his best disapproving stare. “Introductions. All of you.”
The girl flinched, but the boys traded glances and Kakashi could have sworn he saw Itachi’s brother roll his eyes. When neither of the boys seemed willing to speak, Kakashi sighed and pointed at the girl. “You first.”
“What do you want to know?” she asked, a note of confusion in her voice.
“Name, likes, dislikes...hobbies,” he tacked on. “Dream for the future. Things like that.”
“Haruno Sakura,” she answered promptly. “I like umeboshi, and dislike spicy foods. Reading is probably my biggest hobby. I want to be a strong kunoichi, like Tsunade-hime.”
“Uchiha Sasuke,” Itachi’s brother volunteered as Kakashi pointed at him. “I like tomatoes and hate sweet food. My hobby is training with my brother, my uncle, and my cousins, and my dream for the future is to become chief of the police force.”
“And I’m Uzumaki Naruto,” the blond declared. “Ramen is the best, and vegetables suck. I like learning sealing and stuff, and I’m going to be the Hokage someday, believe it.”
Sealing? Kakashi thought. Who’s been teaching him sealing?
Though, if he thought about it, it did explain the increased sophistication of the pranks Naruto had been pulling.
Setting aside the questions the introduction had raised, Kakashi continued with his (admittedly short) plan for the day. “Tomorrow morning, meet me at Training Ground Three. Bring all of your gear, you’ll be doing a survival test. And don’t eat, or you’re going to throw up.”
Unfortunately, only the kunoichi looked suitably cowed. Both boys looked at each other before walking away. Before Sasuke stepped into a shunishin, Kakashi could have sworn he heard the boy say: “You think he means the bell test?”
How the hell did they know that?
Kakashi had thought the second day would go better. Despite the unusual skillset the boys possessed, he would fail them and go back to being without students and doing whatever missions the Hokage had for a skilled jounin like him. The more he was out of the village, the better.
He liked being useful, after all.
However, he was not prepared for a preplanned attack from all three genin, proving that someone had obviously tipped them off to the purpose of the bell test. When they had gotten to Sakura, he had no idea, but he was starting to regret not paying attention to Naruto in the twelve years since Minato and Kushina’s death. Especially since it was getting more and more obvious that Obito probably had been in fairly consistent contact since his old teammate literally came back from the dead.
With the circumstances as they were, he had no choice but to pass the brats before fleeing to his apartment to think. Unfortunately for him, his couch was covered by the ANBU lounging there, mask resting on his lap.
“So, Bakashi,” Uchiha Obito drawled with a smirk. “How’s your genin team?”
