Does Phillip ever let Caleb out of his room? Other then the dining table room.

The dining table and fireplace are actually in Caleb's quarters, so no he is not let out for meals. (Some other things I intend to be in the room but haven't appeared in shot include a desk, booshelves, possibly a pottery wheel, and a door to a bathroom)

He is let out occasionally at other times though, when it suits Belos. That's the primary use for his wheelchair.

Inside his own room, Caleb almost exclusively uses his crutches and hobbles around on his own freely (when the effects of "meals" don't confine him to bed). This is not acceptable OUTSIDE the room though, so when he is elsewhere, he is pushed in that chair, which is intentionally designed for him to be unable to propel on his own

THE INSULATION IN MY ATTIC BEDROOM IS COMPLETE.

Strange discoveries because old houses are weird, especially when previous owners do DIY maintenance:

Half the joists are backwards (???) so all they could do was shove in fiberglass insulation there as best they could while the rest of the attic got foam insulation

1/6th of the roof/attic IS insulated. But only 1/6th behind a random wall ???

The floor had space under it so they went and insulated that too, which means no more excess heat flowing up into my room from the rest of the house!

On Monday, the drywall guys will come and patch up/fix all the walls and ceiling, and then it's just paint and inset booshelves and I am DONE WITH RENO. 😪

I can't wait to actually be able to move all my stuff into my room and unpack, jfc.

I Have More Than 300 Books. Quarantine Seemed Like a Great Time to Organize Them.

I have too many books for a one-bedroom apartment. There is also no such thing as “too many books.”

These are contradictory facts that are also very true of my life in Manhattan. There are a lot of books; many of which I’ve bought from favorite local bookstores, or had sent to me generously by publishers looking for a review. If I had to guess, I have about… 350. Almost one book per day of the year. Even though I have two very nice bookshelves in my one-bedroom apartment, my books like to take up residence everywhere: tote bags, the floor, random piles next to the bookshelves.

Then there are the ones I mean to give away, but choose instead to create precarious piles all over my apartment that have recently threatened to all fall over at once like simultaneous losing games of Jenga. So not only did I need to organize the ones I have (you know, to actually find books and get them all on the shelves), I also needed to separate out the ones I finally needed to get rid of.

I pushed off doing anything about all of this until it felt “right”. Then, we began sheltering in place.
