✬ They'll feel really passionate towards you and will eventually just choose to accept it and pursue you
✬ 'Make you mine' started playing, oh my god, that's what the energy will feel like
✬ You might both end up saying mean things to each other, very impulsively too
✬ A crush like energy here, frustration, attraction, denial, happiness, resistance, etc.
✬ They'll be able to see themselves spending their entire life with you really early on but they'll choose not to
✬ You'll be in a similar energy too, 'too tired to date' is the energy that you'll be in when you first meet them but you'll be trying to stay open to love
✬ 'Marry your daughter' started playing, you'll both share an emotional connection right from the start even when you don't want to, this is so cute

tw suicide mentioned
So Hob doesn’t understand why people don’t love live, he feels like one of the only people who actually has a will to live. so of course he decides to work for a suicide hotline. And things are going good, he’s helping people. and then M calls. “I see no reason left to live,”
“oh um, hello…”
“you have two minutes to convince me otherwise”
“woah woah woah, where are you?” Hob asked feeling frantic. the stranger on the other end of the line sighs, “on the ledge of my building why else would I be calling you?”
Hob is about to dial 911, “could I pursued you to get off the ledge and back into your house?”
the stranger sighs, and hob hears some shuffling and then a door clicking closed. ok good, not in imminent danger.
“you said you wanted reasons to live yes?”
“Indeed, I do not understand why someone would want an eternity of this,” the stranger grumbled.
“I want to live to be a hundred! I’d say that’s pretty close to eternity as for reasons to live Have you considered…chimneys?”
“excuse me?”
“chimneys are fantastic you know, we wouldn’t have had that seen from Mary poppins and handkerchiefs! Where would we be without hankies? I’m sure in a lot grosser society,”
the stranger sighs, “something from this century Mr…”
“Hob, Hob Gadling, now let’s see was ac this century?”
“no”
“how about iPhones?”
“I will not live for an iPhone,”
“what about love?” Shit, he crossed a line.
“she left me… took our son too”
“oh…”
They spent the next hour talking Hob talked about his dead wife and being a single father while the stranger gave the first letter of his name. Fair trade.
M hung up feeling a little more optimistic and Hob gave himself a pat on the back for a good job.
“Hob could you come here?” Ronnie wasn’t the chatty type so hob assumed something was very wrong.
“hey Ronnie, what’s up?”
“well um there’s a man whose been calling everyday and he’s been asking for you specifically…” Ronnie blushed.
“Can you transfer the call to my phone?”
Ronnie obliged.
Hob picked up the phone preparing for the worst. “is this…Hob Gadling?”
it was M! Hob was mortified.
“M what are you doing calling everyday, is something wrong?”
“no, I’m fine, I feel better than I have in a long time. I was trying to reach you to say thank you and to…chat”
hob sighed, “M I’ve got a job,”
he heard a defeated whimper on the other end.
“Alright alright I’ll give, listen I’m not supposed to do this get out a pen and paper cause I won’t say it twice.”
and hob gave M his personal phone number.
and suddenly Morpheus and Hob had something new to live for, love.
-🦎
Ohhh boy yeah I can totally see this playing out! I'm definitely super fascinated by the idea of Hob working/volunteering on a crisis hotline. Especially when he's kind of at the opposite end of the spectrum. I do think he'd be genuinely interested in why people experience such drastically different views on life. Maybe he'd hope that his own outlook on life could be helpful. He knows that he's lucky - it's time to give back to the community and appreciate exactly how lucky he is to have good mental health.
M is the person who really teaches Hob about what its like to struggle. But still, he hopes that he might have made a difference. Maybe it was dumb to talk about chimneys and love, but it did get M to open up! Hob has so many hopes for the man, and he's secretly thrilled that he actually gets an update that M is feeling hopeful too! It's against all the rules, but talking to M - Morpheus - every day... Hob feels like it's doing both of them good. Morpheus is in therapy, he's feeling more confident, he sees a little more brightness in the world. In turn, Hob feels a greater understanding of himself and his own life. Hes a better person, now. And he feels a love for Morpheus which is growing every day.
It's slow, and steady, and there are bumps in the road. Morpheus’s mental health comes above all else for Hob, and he's keen to make sure that his lover takes care of himself. Even if that means taking breaks from their relationship. Hob knows that as long as his Morpheus is alive and well, he'll be happy. And if they keep on working together, step by step, there's a bright future for both of them.
And maybe one day it'll be Morpheus working at the crisis hotline right alongside Hob, telling everyone exactly why life is worth living.

Hey I was wondering I rlly love Liu kang x bimbo reader
CAN YOU MAKE IT INTO A SERIES PLZ AN HAVE THE READER CALL HIM LIU LIU?! 🙆🏽🙇🏽‍️
Hey, sorry it took a long time to write this. I'm not sure if I'll make this into a series, but here is an attempt. I hope you enjoy.
Warning: I don't write NSFW but there is some sexual references and hints.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Why don't you try raspberry?"
Liu didn't understand makeup one bit, but his attempt to help you choose colours was very endearing. Raspberry was his favourite lipgloss to see on you. Maybe it was the shade. Maybe it was the taste.
"Anything for you, Liu Liu."
What was even more endearing was seeing his reactions to your little nickname for him. The way he would blush and get all shy was so adorable.
If shopping and crushing the dreams of losers wasn't on your to do list then smothering Liu Liu with kisses certainly was, which was everyday.
"Are you going to keep talking to us with a serious face even though you haven't washed your face?" Johnny would often ask Liu, or something along those lines.
You knew your kiss marks were like a trophy to him, so it made you flutter whenever he showed them off proudly to his students. If you truly had your way you would stick yourself to his side.
To say you two were an odd couple was just the beginning of the observation. You shared nothing in common, and both of you had a different outlook on life. And in another life, maybe he would hate your guts. Thankfully that wasn't the case.
"I love this perfume of yours." his voice was a bit muffled from where his face was digging into your neck.
There was a hungry look in his eyes, and somehow you could tell there was something going on in his mind. Normally you wouldn't mind, but there was something different. It wasn't the usual softness, he was possessive. There was an intent behind that possessiveness and you just had to know what.
"Is there something on your mind?" you asked him.
"Flower, I've been wondering-" he started, which made you alert for what he would say next. "If we should make changes to ourselves."
That was one way to word it, and Liu Kang's words came out wrong when his romantic feelings were intense, an adorable tick of his.
"What kind of changes?" you asked him, batting your eyes.
His face was all flushed, and you could hear his heart beating. "I've been considering the two of us... how we should go about this. Since we've been intimate, I was thinking of courting you."
Courting was different to dating. Courting meant looking for marriage.
"You want to make things official?" you started to grin, "Aw, Liu Liu." you smothered him with kisses again. This time it wasn't just his face.
A time lord could handle a lot, but you always surprised him with your energy. This time it was your turn to be surprised.
As you lay in the bed you felt like the wind had been knocked out of you, and Liu Liu was still up and about.
"Darling, do you just want to court me?" you asked him.
He came over to the bed and kissed your cheek, "I wish for much more." his eyes trailed over to your stomach but he quickly averted his eyes.
He wanted permission to do that to you. To have that with you. You weren't too young, and you weren't old. For whatever reason you felt honoured that he saw you that way. None of your past partners could picture you as anything other than a girlfriend. Sometimes you were even an experiment, to see how long the pretty girl lasted before she lost her mind drowning herself in makeup.
There was just something endearing about Liu Kang wanting more. It made your knees weak, and your hands twitch in eagerness.
"I do." you smiled, as if at a wedding, which you have always wanted to experience at least once but never got to consider.
"I do too." he returned, immediately understanding the vows you made to him.
For two people with grace and decorum it didn't occur that a ring should be present.

I think the most important think to as qustions about us how we got the first letter and tape to begin with, someone had to have wrote it and sent it in the mail and had have to known the protagonist address, but maybe I'm just overthinking it ,its just a way to start the game, btw I think the only info about the protagonist or the player from the developers is their height 5'10 - 6' idk how canon it is ?
Do you think poppy is "evil" ?
Hmm...no, I don't think Poppy is evil.
I think Poppy is traumatized and misguided, with quite a naive outlook on morality, and her actions are guided by that and her limited experience of the world and humanity for the past like, fifty years.
Ultimately, both Poppy and the Prototype want the same thing - to put a stop to the atrocities committed by Playtime Co. They agree on that. But they're implied to have had vastly different experiences with Playtime, and that is very relevant to how they approach their shared cause.
It's worth noting here that these two have, potentially, been trapped in that facility for half a century or more. The word prototype suggests that he was the very first test subject to survive having his brain and nervous system grafted to a constructed, partially organic body. If his name is correct, he should predate Poppy. He is the template they used to create and refine the process to make her. She is the "perfect" version of him, the finished product. He is a rougher, less polished first draft.
And Poppy was created in 1950. Since you can't have a living doll walking around and living her life in the outside world, that means she's been inside the factory for 55 years, 10 years of which she spent locked in a case. And if the Prototype is rightly-named, he's been there even longer.
And look at how different their situations are:
Attitude Towards Procedure
In Poppy's cut dialogue from the end of Chapter 2, she explains to the Player that:
"Terrible things have happened, and I am the cause. Being able to exist as a doll, it has killed so many people."
Her choice of words here is interesting, because it implies that there's a fundamental difference between Poppy and the other Bigger Bodies experiments. Specifically, it implies that Poppy was a willing test subject. She uses positive phrasing to describe her experience. Being able to is a phrase that suggests that existing as a doll is a desirable state. She could have said existing as a doll. She could have said making me a doll. She could have said turning me into a doll. All of those are negative phrases I'd expect from one of the unwilling test subjects. But Poppy uses being able to, and I think that's significant. I think what we have here is someone who has a more positive, favourable view of her current existence than the others - someone who sees toyhood as either a second chance at life, or a second chance at childhood.
The Prototype, on the other hand, is strongly implied to not be a willing volunteer - quite the opposite. He's highly aggressive towards Playtime staff. He's uncooperative with Playtime scientists. He's actively trying to escape the facility in the backstory. That is not the behaviour of someone who consented to his procedure.
Containment & Care
When we first find Poppy, we see that her living situation is actually pretty good.
Like. Yes. She's locked in a case, ripping off Annabelle like her little heart depends on it, but we know that's not where the Playtime staff kept her - she explicitly attributes that to the Prototype:
"He's the reason I was trapped in that god-awful case for so long."
(We can even make an educated guess as to when this happened and why. Poppy was in the case during the Hour of Joy - she remembers hearing it all happen, but not participating. Given that she was firmly opposed to the idea, it's likely that Prototype sealed her away ahead of time to make sure she wasn't able to interfere. It was a tactical manoeuvre, so it would've happened shortly before the Hour began, so that no staff had time to discover her and remove her from the case.)
So anyway. Ignore the case. Look at everything else.
We find Poppy in a section of the factory that's been refitted to look like a house, in what looks like a child's playroom, full of toys, cushions and furniture. If this is where Poppy has been living all those years, that suggests she's well-cared for, well-treated, and kept mostly happy by the company - we know, of course, that she wasn't entirely spared from the trauma; her maintenance tape is pretty horrific. But she's definitely been treated more kindly - or at least kept more comfortable - than some of the other experiments, and that's reflected in her feelings on the Hour of Joy: she's seen humanity in the Playtime employees who've interacted with her, so she sympathises with the terrified workers.
(Which? Actually makes me wonder if there was a reason none of the other experiments ever came to let her out in the ten years between then and the beginning of the game. Poppy's perspective is very different to that of most of the toys who were created from frightened, imprisoned children, experimented on against their will, and it would make sense for them to feel resentful or angry about it. Mommy Long Legs is mocking and lowkey aggressive towards her, and her avoidance of CatNap suggests he would be, too. Maybe her opposition to the idea of the Hour of Joy made her unpopular with them. Though she seems to have made up/never fallen out with Kissy Missy, at least.)
This is a huge contrast with the Prototype, whose entire experience with Playtime is one big human rights violation. He's kept in a prison cell in the labs under 24/7 surveillance, in almost complete isolation - CatNap, who's allowed to socialise with him, isn't created until the 90s, and the only other time we see or hear of anyone interacting with Prototype is in his regular sessions with Harley Sawyer, who spends that time coldly torturing him in the name of science. And that's given him a very different perspective - that nothing will change at Playtime without drastic and violent rebellion on the part of the experiments. Playtime doesn't care about their experiments' quality of life. They don't care about their feelings. They know that the toys have no rights, that they can't safely leave the factory, and that post-transformation, they have very little recourse against their tormentors. He knows that he'll spend the rest of his life a slave unless he's willing to kill.
(The other experiments also seem to have fallen closer to Prototype's end of the containment spectrum than Poppy's. There's a literal dungeon beneath the playhouse, with enough cells for each of the Bigger Bodies Smiling Critters. We know CatNap was locked away in what is explicitly described by a Playtime worker as a prison, when he's not doing his duties in Playcare, and also segregated from the other Critters - his cell is outside their dungeon. Playtime's idea of "protective custody" for Thomas Clark - now in the body of a Bron toy - was an empty padded cell with no company or stimulation, and he was a loyal employee who'd dedicated like 40 years of his life to the company. When Thomas was placed in with the other experiments, it appeared that they were all thrown into a "genpop" situation together in a big room. Like, Poppy is the only toy getting special treatment, accommodation and enrichment here. It's no wonder almost nobody stood with her against Prototype - he's "one of us", and she would've seemed like "one of them".)
The vibe I get is that like. Both of them are activists, of a sort. But Poppy, before the Hour of Joy, is the "middle-class white woman" moderate sort of activist. She will write a strongly-worded letter of protest to her local Head of Innovation. She will wave a colourful poster at a peaceful rally. She thinks that compromise, diplomacy and patience are the ways to solve her chosen cause. And she can afford to wait for compromise, diplomacy and patience to work, because while she is affected by the oppression she's protesting, it's a bearable situation for her. She has parts of life she enjoys. She has reasons to keep living. Whereas Prototype is a "frontline" kind of activist who's willing to lock horns with riot police in the street armed with only a brick and a smashed bottle, because he's part of the group whose lives have become so unbearable under the oppression that they have nothing left to lose.
Neither is evil. Neither is undeserving of empathy or understanding. Neither is morally beyond reproach. Both their viewpoints have been shaped by experience - Poppy's by her "privilege" (in comparison to the other experiments), Prototype's by his abuse. They're not even truly on opposing sides. The difference between them is simply a matter of degrees on spectrums. Patience/desperation. Optimism/cynicism. Idealism/realism. Hopefulness/hopelessness.
And that's what's most tragic tbh. Poppy believes Prototype is just as evil as Playtime, not realising just how easily she could have been him, or become him, had she been treated the same way he was.
(As to how we got the letter...honestly, I'm not sure. The childish writing suggests Poppy wrote it, but she couldn't possibly have walked it to a post box. Maybe Prototype's mind control reaches far enough to have a postperson collect it from outside the factory's front door? For that to be the case, Prototype and Poppy would need to be working together, but I do have a few disjointed thoughts about how that could turn out to be the case.)

There are so many similarities between Gale and Coriolanus.
There are a lot of things that you could draw connections with.
They're both really pretty young, around 18.
Both of them are the primary provider for their families.
Both have a pretty frightening outlook on human life, barring people they have previously formed a connection with i.e., all of snow's choices; made to protect himself, lucy grey, tigress and his grandmam, with no regard to any other lives, and gale's "how different can it be, really?" and the way he was fine with dropping bombs on kids, he's just sorry one of them was Prim.
they were both manipulated by older women in power who needed something they had, (ambition, charisma, ideas, strategy, sway) to get what they wanted.
Both loved a girl and lost her because she wasn't willing to bend her morals the way that they did, and she wasn't ready to forgive crimes they put little thought into justifying.
in the end, they're both willing to sacrifice even the people they care about to get the future they've been fighting towards.
It's interesting to think about how things would have been different had Gale been born in the capitol, or if Coriolanus had been born in 12. Would Gale have turned out the way President Snow did? Still, using his talents to fight, but this time setting traps for the rebels? Would Coriolanus have poisoned his way to freeing the districts?
**EDIT**
GUYS WAIT NO
i'm not bashing on Gale i swear. i live with a Gale stan, i would never.
Okay, really quickly, I actually really really love these comments, and I'm kind of thriving off how quickly people jumped in to defend Gale as someone who gave up so much to free the districts because I really do think he was just a kid and he wasn't a bad guy. I still think the similarities between them are really interesting. I just wanted to put in some of the things I was drawing from to make the connections on the first post.
In Mockingjay Gale and Beetee are making plans to target human compassion, (the passage is pretty long so I won't quote it) katniss finds out about them, her POV includes that they came up with the specific trap that killed Prim, that was their plan. Katniss questions it, "that seems to be crossing some kind of line," she says "so anything goes? I guess there is't a rule book for what might be acceptable to do to another human being." and Gale responds "Sure there is. Beetee and I have been following the same rulebook President Snow used when he hijacked Peeta,"
He quite literally compares his work to the work that Snow did and uses that as justification to hurt innocent people. He also rationalizes his strategies and actions in the war with the words "Sometimes killing isn't personal."
Gale paralleling Snow definitely doesn't mean Gale's a bad guy, or that he's the same as Snow, because Snow is arguably a sociopath, and Gale feels love and remorse, they have so many differences I just think the similarities are really interesting.

gonna make little chapter recaps while i reread what's posted of homeward bound so far. and then i am going to bust out chapter seventeen. might not finish it this weekend, but i hope to get a majority of it written. let's get into it.
starting with chapter one - i'm so tired of being afraid
word count: 7,535 (7,515 without the chapter lyrics at the start)
chapter song: six by sleeping at last
chapter lyrics:
what would it feel like to put this baggage down? if i'm being honest i'm not sure i'd know how
recap + lines i felt were important enough to jot down:
peter moves into his new apartment (december 2024)
peter decides that needs to be alone
"when he's alone, there's no one to let down but himself."
peter looks up norman, otto, max, flint, and curt as a precaution now that he knows they turned into villains in the other worlds
norman and otto: started oscorp together during the five year gap between snaps, but have not gotten very far due to the world mourning the half of the population that's gone and also because stark industries is already a powerhouse in all the industries that oscorp is trying to step a foot into. peter deems them not a threat for now but will occasionally check on them just to be safe.
max and flint: peter is unable to find records of anyone with their names when looking them up. that's doesn't guarantee they don't exist in this world, they could have different names or something like that, but peter finds no trace of them and feels like it's safe to assume they don't exist here. he'll still check again occasionally to see if anything pops up down the line.
curt: a professor at empire state university with no signs of any of the things that happened in the other world happening to him here. again, peter will check occasionally to make sure, but overall he thinks that his world is most likely safe from these five people becoming villains like they did in the other peter's worlds.
peter looks into empire state university after looking up curt and thinks about how he'd like to go to college. it's always been part of his life plan. his life is completely different than what it was ever supposed to be and he'd need to get his GED, but he thinks about how he'd like to still go if he can make it work.
peter decides he needs to remake his suit, partially because he other suits can't be used anymore now that karen doesn't recognize him - edith doesn't recognize him anymore, either, which makes peter sad because he feels like he's lost a connection that he had with tony after tony's death - but he also wants to remake his suits because he knows the other peter's made their own from suits from scratch as well, so he thinks it's pretty fitting and thinks that it's kind of like he's building himself up from scratch and starting over for good - "...as both Peter Parker and as Spider-Man"
"and karen not knowing him feels a lot like losing another friend."
he includes peter 2 and peter 3 in his suit design to honor them and remind himself that, even if he is alone in his world, he isn't alone in the universe.
raimi spidey emblem on his chest:
Tumblr media
and tasm spidey emblem on his back:
Tumblr media
"when peter gets lost, or angry, or overwhelmed... he has reminders of them, interwoven into his suit, for him to brush his fingers against and think to himself, be strong, peter. do it for your brothers."
peter had an uncle ben in his world, but his uncle ben died less than two years after his parents did when he was six and a half years old. peter thinks about how his uncle ben impacted his life in a much different life than the other peter's. his uncle ben's last words shaped his morals and his outlook in life, to the point that, when tony first showed up to recruit peter for germany, he had used his own wording based on what ben said to explain why being spidey is so important to him.
"he remembers ben shrugging, remembers him smiling, remembers him saying, "if i didn't help, it'd be my fault, too." the way he said it had been so simple, so sure - a philosophy he fully and passionately believed in."
actually just this whole section feels very important to me so i'm going to copy and paste it right here:
In a way, Uncle Ben played a significant part in Peter becoming Spider-Man, but not in the same way that the Other Peter’s seemed to be influenced by their Uncle Ben’s. Peter remembers that he didn’t think much of the last words he heard his Ben say for a while, but that they seemed to click in his head around the time he was nine or ten, and suddenly they were words he wanted to live by. Doing good, and getting in the way to stop bad things, no matter how big or how small, because then it’d be his fault, too, if he didn’t.
It’s what he told Mr. Stark, back when he was still fourteen almost fifteen and the man had appeared in his apartment. When you can do the things I can, he had said—not exactly what Ben had said, no, kind of added onto by Peter, altered with the weight of Spider-Man stacked on top of the same philosophy he already lived by—but you don’t, and then the bad things happen… they happen because of you.
It’s not what the Other Peter’s talked about, though—because Ben didn’t tell Peter that great power comes with great responsibility. Aunt May told him that. But, for the Other Peter’s, it had been an Uncle that lived longer than his own did.
Then again, the Other Peter’s didn’t have the Avenger’s, and they never had Mr. Stark. Maybe it’s just different because each world isn’t supposed to be the same, and that’s all there is to it.
also may's line from right before ben died, which peter later tells harley about when telling harley the truth about his life:
“You stupid Parker men,” May had scoffed. “Way too selfless for your own good.”
peter thinks that it feels important that uncle ben had such a huge role in shaping who he is, and how the ben's of the other worlds had such a huge part in the other peter's lives as well, even if it was in vastly different ways. he then thinks about how, out of the very few things that peter was able to get out of his and may's old apartment before it was cleared out, one of them happened to be a box of uncle ben's old stuff - including, at the very top of the box, ben's old camera.
peter learns how to use ben's camera to take pictures properly in order to then take pictures of himself as spidey to sell to the daily bugle. he thinks it's amusing and ironic that the pictures he takes are used for articles that slander spidey, knowing that jjj would probably lose his shit if he knew he bought the pictures from spider-man himself.
"everything seems to be trial and error these days - life was never a certainty before, but now it's pretty clearly up in the air and he's left scrambling to try and figure it out, approaching every corner completely blind to what he'll find when he turns it - but that's alright, because he's got the brain of a scientist and trial and error could just be another term for experiment, so it works out well."
that ^ quote is a nice tie in to the tony flashback that happens in chapter 16, where tony calls peter an observer and says that peter is always gathering information and how peter looks more than most people do because peter likes to be prepared and likes to understand.
peter spends new years eve alone (new years, 2024) and watches the fireworks while thinking about the other peter's not being alone before going back to patrol.
peter gets his first Big Injury since ending up completely on his own. he has no one to call and he has no super pain killers like the ones tony had made for him before tony died. the injury starts at his left hip, goes over his ribs, stops at the center of his chest. it was done with a knife. peter has to stitch himself up. it's the first time he's ever done stitches on himself.
he passes out after finishing the stitches and wakes up almost a full day later. thinks about his healing and how his enhancements are definitely being negatively impacted by his lackluster eating habits - he's broke as fuck and also doesn't have much of an appetite due to being traumatized and depressed.
"part of him wonders how drastic a change it really is - wonders if, maybe, the scars will stop fading away. for some reason, that's the thought that makes him feel sick to his stomach."
fun fact: this injury is the one that peter tells harley about in chapter 15 when harley is asking about some of peter's scars.
and that's the end of chapter one! these little recaps are entirely for my own benefit - the only reason i'm posting them is because giving myself the expectation and responsibility of posting them will make me actually commit to recapping every chapter, which will make working on chapter seventeen a lot fucking easier and will make it so i'm able to finish chapter seventeen a lot fucking faster.
i will be reblogging with the chapter two recap shortly

xiao xingchen and (unhealthy) coping mechanisms
how long ago was this sent? no idea. I'm going through my inbox answering some old asks. slowly
does he have any healthy ones? for that matter, does he have any at all?
in all seriousness, though. one of my favorite things about Xiao Xingchen other than everything is how good he is at projecting a "i'm fine, slightly melancholy but generally reasonable, very friendly and deeply invested in the well-being of others" and simultaneously he is a very unwell man.
like, is the above true? for sure Xiao Xingchen's friendliness and care is very genuine, I think he does have the real desire to make the world a better place and the belief that if he really tries he can do so, or at least help some people even if he can't make the kind of change he originally wanted to make. Xiao Xingchen has a lot of big feelings and a lot of them are about how the world just needs a little work and people just need some help and he is going to give both.
and at the same time...I mean, from the jump the first choice we see him make under intense stress is, frankly, pretty nuts! "Have a fight with your friend, give him your eyes and disappear" is not the reaction of a guy who knows how to cope. I've said before that while I think Xiao Xingchen is immensely strong I also think he's sort of brittle, and while you can push him in a lot of directions and he'll bend just fine (obligatory sex joke here), push him just a little the wrong way and he snaps like a dessicated twig. When that happens, he reacts with a kind of frantic, immediate desperation that results in pretty drastic steps (aforementioned eyes, suicide). And I don't think you can really call that a coping mechanism.
I don't think Xiao Xingchen thinks this about himself - that he has unhealthy coping mechanisms, I mean - because the thing is that Xiao Xingchen can bear a lot without flinching. Xiao Xingchen's very outlook on the world and determination to make a difference are a powerful motivator that makes it so that, confronted with what would be extraordinary stresses for most people, I think (at least for a while), he can handle it. Because it's going to get better! he's going to make it better! all he needs to do is try harder. I guess maybe that's his coping mechanism there - the belief that he can fix everything if he tries hard enough - and for a while he gets away with it because he can fix a lot of things, or at least make them a little better.
when he hits the end of that rope, though, he doesn't really have another one to grab onto.
One of the things I think about a lot when it comes to Xiao Xingchen in Yi City is the way that...I think for a long time after leaving Song Lan, Xiao Xingchen was just...drifting. he'd sort of resolved, I think, to separate himself from the world. His efforts to make a difference only resulted in suffering, so maybe he shouldn't try. And then he meets a-Qing, who invites herself along with him and basically inserts herself into his life, and now Xiao Xingchen has if nothing else a person who needs protecting, apparently by him. And then he has another person, who he expects to walk away but never does, who he befriends and gets close to and night hunts with, and it's not what he thought he'd be doing but maybe he's still making some kind of small good difference, for his friend and a-Qing, for the people he and his friend are helping. It's not the grand transformation of his and Song Lan's dream but maybe it's something.
And then it turns out that even that was not just built on a lie, but he was actively hurting people the whole time. And now that means all his trying harder has ever done is cause suffering. What else can he do, in that moment, but remove himself from the world so he can't do any more?

If there's one thing i don't like about this fandom it's how much they make the kids more meaner? Villainizing? Than they actually are. Don't get me wrong, they have done a lot of bad but like these characters are FRIENDS. They do genuinely care about eachother in the end they aren't cold hearted and revel in other's suffering, they aren't Caliborn or Vriska afterall. I think they read the comic wrong, the kids were willing to sacrifice their own lives for eachother, a prime example of this was Daves conversation with doomed Rose. I blame the spaceship meteor part of the story for ruining the characters. Like everyone acted so ooc? Why were Jade and Davesprite giving John such a hard time about his dad die dying? Both of them literally had to watch their guardians die in front of them, you'd think they'd be the most sympathetic here? Or how Dave and Karkat, characters who will go through lengths to protect their friends just fucking stand there as everyone else tears themselves or eachother apart? Karkat is an ass yes but this was the same guy who was crying his heart out when he saw Solluxs dead body when in game or how he told Aradia bot that he would've tried to get her back to life if it weren't for other circumstances. Why was everyone being so uncaring at this part? It didn't feel right. The alpha kids got it the WORST, from bad writing to fandom treatment. I remember back in the day seeing stuff where Dirk was just down right mean to Jane "hahaha sucks to be you Jake is mine fat bitch". There was even a little bit of this aggressiveness in House of Dirk, now i do find that story fun but the small part where he calls Jane "xenophobic", bothered me. Like he would NOT say that to her. Have you seen how he speaks to her? "If you ever need help, Jane. If you're ever in any trouble at all. Let me know. Just say the word." Same guy who built a robot to protect her life and pretty much wrote an entire book for her, i think Dirk cares about Jane guys. This fandom and comic is so mean to Jane, as funny as i thought it was that Caliborn called her a fat fucking pig and cow, she really just became a punching box at that point. They'll shit on her because she's a woman getting in the way of the gay men. The ONLY thing people get from her as a character is that she's fat, because Caliborn said so along with a bunch of other things. Jake, poor Jake, gets sexualized by everyone he knows and had to burn his Grandmothers body right in front of him. But according to fans HE'S the asshole here because he cant communicate properly. Gee i wonder why. Roxy gets put on a fucking pedestal by the comic and fans, super extra special treatment. Ignore how she sexually harasses Dirk or almost killed Jane, no she's incapable of doing wrong, isn't that right Calliope? Yes, Roxy should be the new leader AND kill the Condescension yes. Now i never finished reading the epilogues because why would i? I'm probably missing a lot if we're taking them into consideration but not taking it into consideration because my point still stands because thats how the fandom treated them even before those came out. And even when talking about the base comic i still see those attitudes.
These characters DO have their personal problems but when people talk about they insert angst where it doesn't exist for favor of projection and i hate how common its become.
If people claim it is just cynicism that comes with growing up, there's clearly a difference between being cynicism, nihilism, and being a straight up asshole. If people say it is Dave and Karkat's depression is the reason why they stand around doing nothing as Rose becomes alcoholic and Terezi gets abused by Gamzee, it's sure strange they got over their depression right as VRISKA comes in to solve everything and those two bastards act like nothing had happened. Everything by Act 6 and Post Retcon just made all the characters worse. They have become an empty shell of who they used to be. The bleak outlook has become a theme for current Homestuck. It's been like this for Epilogues and Homestuck^2 too. I don't know if James Roach and HICU can really save the franchise and get out of all the characters having this negative light. Andrew Hussie and WhatPumpkin has shoved this jaded feeling right in the audience's faces that it's become the norm to expect the worse. Readers expect characters being assholes and more depression, they will receive it because Hussie and WhatPumpkin made it so.

A Few Words in Defense of Poor Robin and the Time She Was Living In
It's been really interesting to read everyone's vitriol regarding poor Robin. I remember reading this book through at least twice before and never thinking of Robin as anything other than a fellow prisoner of Jane's. Is she a good mother, by no means, but I've always felt that she's doing the best that she can under the circumstances.
I think that her life is a literal living hell. She has a husband across country that she desperately loves but most likely thinks despises her because I KNOW she despises herself. She is forced to be a social butterfly by her mother and she can't even express her emotions by crying at night in her own room because her mother will be able to tell and will find some new creative way to torture her and, by extension, Jane. Her daughter whom she loves fiercely, evidently looks just like her father and is a constant reminder of what she lost/threw away. She is playing a part in a horrific nightmarish play just to survive because she doesn't know what else to do. At that time, and under those circumstances, I don't doubt that she sees living with her mother's horribleness is her best option for providing for Jane. I can't imagine how many times she has most likely visualized running away with Jane by herself but most likely is more afraid of the two of them starving to death and NO mother ever wants to remotely consider that option.
I'm also pretty sure that the time frame for this book is sometime in the 20s/30s. According to the website for the Canadian Museum of History, Canada was among the most profoundly affected countries. So add that to Robin's fears for their livelihood.
And please let's not forget that, for all of Robin's faults, Jane does not doubt that her mother loves her. I have more to say in defense of her and Jane and their secret ways of expressing love but since I don't want to give away any spoilers to those who haven't read it yet, I will refrain.
Another thing that I have found is very interesting about how Maud wrote both "The Blue Castle" and "Jane of Lantern Hill" is that she writes more strictly from one point of view. As common as that is in many books, one thing I always liked about the Anne books was that you got all of these wonderful insights into the minds of other characters. I have seen it a precious few times so far in Lantern Hill.
The reason I point this out is that most of how we are seeing Jane's life play out is from the perspective of an 11 year old. Don't get me wrong, a very perceptive (at times) and wise beyond her years, 11 year old, but an 11 year old, none the less. They are not known to be the most broad minded of people and have a tendency to color the world with a narrowness that can alter reality to some extent. We do have to take a lot of her experiences and outlooks with a grain of salt giving others the benefit of the doubt at least.
I have often found it very difficult bordering on impossible to read books from other time frames without being influenced by the modern sensibilities and customs I am used to. For example, how could Cinderella's stepmother get away with taking her own house away from her after her father died and treating her like a slave? Oh wait. This was not the 21st century, orphans were not looked at the same. In fact, most people looked at orphans as if it was THEIR own fault that they were orphans, like losing your parents makes you a bad person and not worth time or pity.
Am I excusing Robin's behavior? As a mother, NO. Do I think the grandmother should be excused. HEAVENS NO! But I do try to put myself in their shoes as much as I can and remember that this was a different time and place. Not to mention, as a sufferer of mental health issues and knowing that that was something that was not touched with a ten foot pole back then and good lord knows what genetic predisposition they had in that regards on top of living through WW1 and the Great Depression AND the Spanish Flu Pandemic!!!!
Anyway, I hope this makes some semblance of sense to my dear fellow lovers of L.M.M. It's been so interesting and enlightening getting to hear the different thoughts and outlooks from fresh readers of this little known but wonderful book.

For the favorite character ask game, could you answer for Ro? :)
Of course!! Although, you mean all 50 questions or just specific ones? Because while it may take some time, I could answer for him all 50 because I love him so much <3333 and I'm insane enough to do it.
Actually nevermind I'm gonna try to answer all 50 because I am insane :]
Do you project onto this character?
Yeah and I think at this point everyone knows it!! Some of my headcanons for Ro are inspired by traits of mine, I guess? Also me making him AFAB trans genderqueer in modern times is kinda inspired by me, haha(although the way my gender works is different from my HCs for her). Some stuff that happen to him in my stories are also kind of inspired by myself, in a way? I mean, I kinda have an image in my head of how her childhood went, and in some ways I've made it similar to mine (although obviously it's pretty different too)
2. Did you always like this character?
Well, not exactly? When I first discovered Hetalia, I did like Ro, but I focused on other characters a lot more. But I guess I always did.
3. What first drew you to this character?
Well... the fact that he's the personification of my country, I suppose? I also like his design a lot, and his personality.
4. Did you initially dislike/hate this character?
Not really. I always liked him.
5. If this character were a woman, would you honestly still like them? Or in reverse, what if they were a man?
Well, of course!!! I think his character can work really well as a guy or a girl or whatever really(I love him so much I'm giving him all the genders lol). Sometimes I do change his gender/genderbend him depending on the story I wanna write.
6. Do you have any nicknames or pet names you use for this character?
Well, I do call him Ro. Sometimes I call him "lynxie" in my head, cause of the lynx being her national. I also sometimes call him "this fucker".
7. Does the character’s age matter to you?
Kinda?? I see him as being 24-26 physically in modern times, and almost 2000 years old in reality (i've got a post about my HCs for his age over the years linked in my pinned). I don't like it when people make him be born around the time Wallachia got founded, because I've already mentioned I see him as being far older.
8. Does the character’s looks/design matter to you?
In a way? While I do change the colour of Ro's hair (and his hair length sometimes as well), and the colour of her eyes, I do like his canon design. So I guess it matters?
9. Does this character remind you of anyone you know? Does that affect how you see them?
Y'know what. He does kinda remind me of one of my friends, which I have just realised now. It doens't really affect the way I see him, thought.
10. Do you see yourself in this character even without projecting?
In a way, I suppose I do. In his mostly cheerful nature and outlook on life.
11. How did you “fall in love” with this character?
Hmm...I had just gotten back in the fandom, and got really into Romania's history. And the rest is well...history lol
12. If you could write effortlessly and as much as you wanted, what story (s) would you write for this character?
GODDDD I would write so many stories. I would probably write about all of Romania's history, and his relations with a lot of different countries and so much serbro fanfic.
13. If you could draw effortlessly and as much as you wanted, what scene (s) would you draw for this character?
Honestly, not sure.
14. Are you physically attracted to this character?
Not really.
15. Are your thoughts surrounding this character usually sexual, non-sexual, or a mix of both?
Mostly non-sexual.
16. Have you ever cried when thinking about this character? Genuinely?
I...might occasionally tear up a little when thinking about Ro.
17. Have you ever felt physical pain over this character? (ex: physical heartache).
A few times. Maybe. Not sure.
18. Do you prefer to see this character suffer or know peace? Angst or comfort? Both?
Honestly, both. I like seeing him suffer then give her some peace.
19. Does this character serve as a stress ball/ security blanket for you? Something you run to after a bad day to feel safe or happier?
I'll be honest, yeah. Thinking about him gives me a lot of comfort when I have a shitty day.
20. Do you feel affectionate towards this character?
Yeah, I love her a lot!!!!
21. Are your feelings about this character platonic, romantic, or familial? All of these feelings at once maybe?
A mix of all three, maybe. Perhaps not romantic, tho.
22. Do you think you will always love this character?
I think he'll always have a special place in my heart, yeah.
23. Has this character permanently altered or impacted your psyche in a way you won’t forget?
...maybe? Yes? I'm not sure. Hetalia in general has altered my psyche in a way I won't forget.
24. Do you ever dream about this character? If so, describe a dream you once had about them.
I haven't dreamed about him (or if I did, I don't remember)
25. What kind of fan-fiction do you read about this character? If you don’t read fan-fics about them, why not?
All kinds, honestly. But mostly human AUs that seem interesting or historical fiction.
26. If you look for this character’s name on AO3, what tags are you including or excluding?
i dunno...I don't really include or exclude tags usually. Although I rarely read AU stories where he is a vampire, because I've read enough vampire stuff with Ro for a lifetime(not saying people can't write stuff like that, just that it's not my favourite thing ppl do with Ro but I think if it's written well I'll give it a chance).
27. Do you like to ship this character with other characters or do you prefer not to?
Well, yeah. I ship him with like a million characters because I find Romania's relations with other countries interesting to explore. Characters I ship him with the most: Serbia(my OC), Bulgaria, Hungary, Prussia, Greece (kind of), England (kind of).
28. Do you get defensive about this character? If yes, then why?
Well, it depends. But I suppose I do? If I feel like someone misunderstands him, I may get a little defensive and want to say something, but I end up keeping it to myself because there is no point in defending a character to someone who doesn't get him anyway.
29. Do you affectionately bully this character?
Yes <333 he's my lovable idiot who represses his emotions so much and has the worst abandonment and trust issues known to mankind
30. Are you especially sensitive about this character?
Sometimes.
31. Are you ashamed of liking this character?
Well, sometimes I feel a bit ashamed of liking hetalia, but I honestly don't feel bad about liking Ro.
32. If you could make this character a meal, what would you make them?
Honestly, I am not sure. I'd like to make him something that he'd like. Maybe cabbage rolls. I think she'd like those. Or something with garlic, as I HC that he really likes garlic.
33. Are you “blinded by love” for this character or do you accept any flaws they may have?
His flaws are one of the reasons I love him, actually. But sometimes I think I do think of him through rose-coloured glasses, haha.
34. Does this character inspire you with little things in your daily life?
Yeah. Inspires me to keep going even if life is shitty at the moment, for one day I'll be free.
35. Has this character ever prevented you from sleeping because you can’t stop thinking about them?
A few times.
36. Do you feel a spiritual/soulmate connection with this character?
Maybe? I feel a lot of affection for him, but that's mostly because I see myself in him somewhat, not because I love him like that. I guess, yeah, in some manner?
37. Is your love for this character a secret from people you know in real life?
In general the fact that I like hetalia is a secret I keep from the people I know, besides my friends who do know about my love for Ro <3
38. Do you tend to joke more about dying or killing for this character? Both? What causes the distinction?
Honestly, I don't really make jokes like that, well not for Ro. But y'know what, I'd probably kill for him.
39. Do you feel lovesick over this character?
Yeah...mostly when I think of ships involving him.
40. Are you very empathetic towards this character? When they feel a certain way in the story, do you feel those emotions too?
Yes!!! It's probably becausr I see myself a lot in him, but yes. When he feels things, I often feel it too to an extent. Probably why writing him is so therapeutic for me.
41. Do you prefer to interact with this character directly via self-insert/reader type content? Or do you enjoy seeing them mostly with other characters in the story and/or your OCs?
When I was younger, I used to enjoy self insert/reader stuff, and to an extent I still do, but it was kind of ruined for me (and I've tried to make self-insert OCs in the past but I always end up changing them so much they become their own full fledged characters pretty different from me besides some traits that remain). I do enjoy seeing him interact with other characters and my OCs tho.
42. If you could, would you write this character a song or poem?
Yeah. I plan to one day.
43. What type of weather makes you think of this character?
Windy weather. Snowing. Rain.
44. Which season makes you think of this character?
All seasons, but mostly winter and autumm.
45. Do you feel as if you are intimately familiar with this character?
At this point I probably am.
46. How much do bad interpretations of this character upset you?
Well, it honestly kind of depends on the interpretations. Whenever I see bad interpretations of him, I mostly get annoyed. If I were to see an interpretation of him that I felt was not only bad, but offensive, I would get upset then but I thankfully haven't seen something like that yet.
47. Does this character ever make you laugh sincerely?
Yeah a lot!!!!
48. What’s your favorite physical/design feature for this character?
I like his haircut, his fangs, his canon outfit, honestly most things about him!!!!
49. What’s your favorite personality trait in this character?
This isn't a trait represented in canon, and moreso a headcanon of mine, but I think it's maybe that despite it all the shit he went through, she never truly lost his rebellious attitude, and his hope for independence and freedom. Even if it made his life harder at times, he still tried to keep true to himself in a way, even if to survive she had to adapt and change a lot. He might have matured, but he's still a rebel at heart.
50. Link your fav song, playlist, aesthetic board, fan-fiction, reference pile, personal artwork, analysis post, meme, headcanon, or quote for this character.
My pinterest board for him: https://pin.it/3zyAqZ3OB
Song: techincally it's more related to serbro than to him, but Two Punks In Love is totally their song. For one song that reminds me of only Ro, that would be maybe "Home" by Passenger. Or "She Used To Be Mine" from the waitress. And many more songs.
Tumblr media
i still kinda like this drawing I did of him even if my art style has changed since then.
Most of my HCs and analysis posts about Ro are linked in my pinned! :]

BUT WHY is Usagi's couch pink?
Tumblr media
I was thinking about colour psychology and Akihiko's general style, and I was wondering...why is Akihiko's couch pink? Maybe I'm reading too much into it (as I always do when it comes to JR), but it just stands out. Not in a bad way of course, but in a way that makes me wonder what Nakamura was thinking.
Now, I wouldn't have anything to say about Akihiko's couch if it weren't for the fact that this is the only piece of furniture he owns in this colour. His furniture is very modern and plain, like the way Akihiko dresses, which of course is a reflection of his status and outwardly emotionless demeanor as well as this sense of simplicity about him. Suzuki and the toys in his apartment reflect the kind of person he really is, which no one gets to know unless they're allowed to get close enough. This outward uninteresting plainness that doesn't at all allude to his eccentricity and immaturity is meant to be a guard, a way of protecting his true self until he can trust someone enough to let them in. It also makes us focus more on who he is than what he looks like, especially as an author of bestselling novels.
But with this in mind, what sticks out to me is the couch. See, the bears and toys are usually in more intimate places of Akihiko's apartment. Suzuki is only placed in more communal areas when Akihiko and Misaki are alone (or when they have guests that know Akihiko well enough), so...why a pink couch that is the most public area? In the first place everyone sees when they enter Akihiko's home? Why the colour pink? And why doesn't it match modernness and plainness that is present in all the ways that Akihiko expresses himself outwardly?
Tumblr media
Well, let's first talk about the colour pink itself and how it applies. The colour of Akihiko's couch is not a bright pink, but more of a calmer, deeper and dustier pink, at times looking pretty rosy. With this in mind, we can look at the psychology behind the colour.
While pink in the west is usually associated with femininity, in Japan, it's regarded as a more masculine colour (and with it being a more rosy shade (bara), it only makes sense). Pink also represents love, calmness, innocence, optimism, and vulnerability which I think are traits the represent Akihiko quite well.
In terms of love, pink is not so much passion but tenderness, something gentle but full of care and thought, that can be nurturing. This is love that runs very deep, and considering the amount of moments between Akihiko and Misaki that have happened on this couch, I only think this is more fitting. In the beginning, this was the kind of love Akihiko wanted from someone, then it becomes the love he gets, then he gives the same love back to Misaki in more recent chapters.
In terms of calmness, while Akihiko's emotions can often be anything but, the way he presents himself is very calm and sure of himself. Further his presence has a calming effect on Misaki who has often gotten very anxious when Akihiko isn't by his side even when he knows they'll see each other soon. Akihiko has also expressed something similar, so this calmness is not only how he can come across but it's also something provided by the love he receives.
Innocence is also at play here, and I think stolen innocence is a theme for both Misaki and Akihiko's childhoods. Not only do I think this pink couch is exactly like Akihiko's toys in that it's a way of Akihiko reclaiming childhood innocence, but I also think it can represent his and Misaki's innocence/naivety when it comes to love.
Optimism doesn't have a huge part, but I think explains Akihiko a little deeper. This shade of pink represents hope here and a positive outlook on life that can tend to ignore negativity. I think instead of this implying that Akihiko is an optimistic person, I think this more speaks to Akihiko's different worldview as someone who is rich and always has been rich, so he's had no concept of struggle or going without. I think this also speaks to the overwhelmingly positive view he has on Misaki more in the middle of the story, as in the beginning and later on, he acknowledges that Misaki is a person with flaws a lot more.
Vulnerability I think is another HUGE theme when it comes to Romantica. A lot of the moments between Akihiko and Misaki that have happened on the couch were moments of extreme vulnerability, challenging themselves and each other to open up in ways they never would otherwise. Whether it was confessing feelings or intimacy, each time was progress in properly tearing down their guards for each other. I think they both have issues with being vulnerable, Misaki often mistaking it with selfishness or humility, Akihiko believing vulnerableness is just opening yourself to be hurt/taken advantage of. Their love for each other challenges these beliefs, and they learn to embrace vulnerability in later chapters.
With the location of this couch being in the least intimate room of Akihiko's apartment and the first thing you see when entering his apartment is another reflection of who he is as a person. Akihiko may present himself as modern and plain and simple upperclass, but what he is cannot be ignored. An author, the Usami heir, a wealthy man, a celebrity; these are things brought up constantly, things that he nor the reader can never forget. But the couch goes further with who he is as a person; as a gay man, as a lover, as someone hurt, as someone confident in themselves, as a hard worker, as someone learning to be happy. Akihiko cannot be ignored and one of his major struggles is not only sometimes wishing he could be for the most part by the public, his family, and the demands of his work but also being unable to be properly acknowledged by the people he wants acknowledgement from.
So, with this said, I think the colour of this couch represents who Akihiko is and the Romantica relationship as a whole. While I've seen some people say that the pink couch is Akihiko accepting and embracing his sexuality (maybe), I think the pink couch is more about who he is and his love for Misaki, and Misaki's love for him.
But then again, maybe I'm being too High School English Teacher about this and the couch is just fucking pink and nothing more.

Hi, Hello! I just read (probably) most of your current blog (I saw that your previous blog was purged by Tumblr, sorry to hear that.. Glad you're back!) but not yet all the fics, but I think that holy macaroni, it's AWESOME! They sound human yet *not*, and how you tie their headcanons based on actual historical interactions!! If it's okay, I would like to ask about Zee and Jack. How's their relationship with Arthur's other colonies and neighbors in Asia and Oceania (continent)? Like, are they mostly estranged from the other colonies, or do they find some kind of kinship in their situations? (I heard that many Malaysians and Singaporeans, along with other SEA neighbors of theirs. It's funny how it's made in Australia but most consumed in that area).
Okay, I am so sorry, this has been in my box for like a month but better late than never, right? and Thank you! I'm very glad that's satisfying for you! And oh, very good question. I'm not sure what you were referring to that Australia makes that popular in Malaysia and Singapore, I'm going to guess it's Milo or maybe Vegemite. But I'm not sure, so I will try and answer this without that info, and I'm going to be speaking in broad generalizations. I am from the opposite end of the Commonwealth, and I am not all-knowing so this pretty birds-eye-view and not a Kiwi flightless bird sort of bird's eye view.
So it's both. Stiff and friendly, slightly estranged but also close. Geography puts them in the Asia-Pacific. They have a lot in common with their neighbours. In general, it's good, but it's also complicated. In a lot of ways, Jack and Zee float in their little bubble down there, but they have very different outlooks on this. But they are both friendly and on good terms with their neighbours. Jack and Zee both are very casual people; they're friendly overall. Both because they value egalitarianism but also because they embodied unique positions as they grew up. Both have large populations of European origin while being much farther from Europe than North America. So they tend to orbit each other more than other neighbours because they both get a lot more of a say in imperial policy than their neighbours. Their current relations are still affected by the imperial rank they were both given as dominions. New Zealand and Australia were both mini-empires within the British Empire, being delegated roles of power over some of their neighbours. New Zealand governed several islands and still does, Australia has a similar role, and both play a powerful role in projecting what used to be British Imperial power and is now somewhat more multilateral but still very much a continuation of that role.
Jack, on the surface, gets on well with his neighbours; he's friendly, egregious, and hard not to like. He's good at making people feel included; he's good at having fun. Like it's hard not to have a good time around him, but he is also a son of the British Empire and something of a cadet to the American Empire. He's very casual, and there's at least a pretence of equality he prefers to act on, but these power dynamics are still a part of his relationship with his neighbours. He doesn't like thinking about it much; the childhood he had and his relationship with Brighid made an impression on his brain in such a way that he can be pretty unaware of how much power he actually has and how his ability to be casual and show no deference is in itself a privilege. But he'd get on quite well with Singapore and Malaysia. He is a bit blind about his placement and doesn't understand why they can be stiff, much more so earlier in history than now.
Zee is more aware. Her life and existence are more of a duality. Jack had no founding treaty, and the British rolled along because they didn't much care as long they had a place to shove convicts. Whereas Zee was at least theoretically founded as a state of co-sovereignty. Is that how it played out for the Māori most of the time? No. It gave them, at least legally, more rights than indigenous people in other settler colonies. They didn't have it easier than other indigenous people, but they were more successful long-term and fought like hell at every step. So Zee is Polynesian. The Māori are Polynesian. Zee's worldviews are very much a duality, and I think that made her more aware of her position. It didn't always play into her choices, and she is still relatively powerful in her sphere. I think she spends more time with her neighbours and is more aware of their linguistic and ethnic complexities than Jack tends to be. Tonga, Fiji, New Caledonia, Malaysia, and Singapore, they're friendly. She's less perky, sunny or social than Jack but also much more aware and emotionally intelligent than he is.

Looks like here's a strange new visitor, huh...
Meet Double Trouble!
First impression.
It's hard to tell that here's a monster in front of you – after all, "main" body looks 100% human! Ah, yes, for sure, Eve is true femme fatale with this charming looks of hers. It's no surprise she steals attention easily with this seductive eyes and lovely lips- And what about her long, luxurious hair? Perfection as it is!
Ah, but she looks kind of sick, you know? And it's not even about her deadly pale skin- Sometimes it seems like she's talking- even arguing with herself- And her hair moves strangely even without any wind from times to times. Sometimes she can even puke out very strange things... Hmm, have you ever seen her eating them, actually? Or just eating at all?
Of course, pretty ladies never walk alone – and in case of Eve, her guardian dog is glued to her... Well. Quite literally. Grghaath never delays his early introduction, opening his massive jaw on the back of her head just to slip in some comment every time he hears something intriguing without thinking twice. Or, for example, when he can sense some food nearby- And, well, with amounts he's consuming, here's no surprise Eve doesn't have to bother herself...
How he decide "what is food" is a different story tho. Pft, what a brute.
"I'm hungry, so hungry... Eve? Eve? Look, this thing looks delicious..."
"... Please, don't take him seriously, he is definitely not a brains in our duo."
What are they?
Joke of nature Very strange case of symbiosis between human and... Well, something non-human. Roughly speaking, they're closer to changeling in the matter of literally turning inside out if they feel the need to swap. For the most of the time, Grghaath hides inside Eve, letting her communicate with outside world; in cases of danger, they change, since in terms of raw power Grghaath is a clear winner. It's needless to say that their harmony and teamwork are impressive – no-no, what is truly shocking, that even after years of being in such unique alliance, sharing thoughts, etc., both of them saved their original personalities and clear lol minds. For now, they are like roommates, but with different sides of body... Bodymates? Side neighbours?? Inside-outsties??? 🤔🤔🤔
Grghaath looks like giant, constantly wriggling and moving mass of flesh with a lot of mouths full of sharp teeth (prob will remake it lol). Eye on his body belongs to Eve.
Eve looks like human mostly, no special features aside from long "scar" on her back and big mouth at the back of her head.
Both can use tendrils(?) masked as hair; both can talk with eachother in thoughts if needed, share senses/thoughts/memories/etc. Eve become much stronger after their fusion, Grghaath gained higher intelligence for those of his kind and brighter emotions.
Quick description.
Eve: maneater😏
Grghaath: maneater😧
Eve, as been said before, brains and beauty, face of the pair and the main reason both of them haven't gone insane honestly – mostly because of her incredible self-control. She has realistic outlook on life and strong personality, and she was already mature enough at the moment of fusion- This is why she successfully asserted dominance over her at that time new neighbor in a shortest time possible. Not a mothering type, but "cool elder sister with knowledge behind her back" type – smart and reliable one, doesn't afraid to take responsibility for her actions. Can be overly pushy and even suffocating tho-
Grghaath, well... He's not a baddest neighbour for sure. If you will ignore his bad eating habits, he's pretty chill dude! Can and will talk with people around him about some silly random shit. Usually mistaken for the some type of parasyte, which makes him so offended........ And leads to funny and emotional protests. Scarily fast learner! Will laugh it off if someone points it out. Very good hunter, adapts to every condition so quickly– well, yes... He doesn't like to get scolded if he gets catched for eating some lame loser. It's a need to be smart and fast enough. Still too animalistic to clean up his meals perfectly, so he still gets scolded :(
What's their motivation?
Grghaath wants to find truth. Both of them has no information about what in the goddamn world fused them nor who they were before their meeting, all their memories are foggy. Must say, it's not a "i want to get rid of her" thing, mostly just interest.
Eve doesn't have any strict plans for life, she goes where wind blows. For now she tries to find someone like them- well, like Grghaath. She knows that he feels lonely. Sometimes she wonders if it's better for them to be separated, so he can live normal live for his kind.
•••
Phew, this was exhausting- Anyways 😔🙏 hope it wasn't too bore for you lmao. Maybe I will polish this idea later. Only best wishes, I will come back with some sketches again soon-
Oooooooo-wow, that is a giant wall of text. Your general writing style reminds me of someone too. Hm 🤔.
I don't really know if this oc is connected to anything regarding my narratives or you just decided to show me them? In which case thank you, but I would really suggest you post this on your account because it's likely to get swallowed in a cluster of other asks here. And you deserve visibility, honestly.
I'm glad I broke that 3 year artblock that's one Hell of a fucking badge to wear! 💪👀

Sometimes I think about how Kitty and Captain cope pretty much the same way (repressing their past/stress/etc all the way down in their soul) but go about it in opposite ways, Kitty being cheerful and upbeat to keep the bad thoughts away and Captain refusing to acknowledge his emotions
YES!!! YES!! AAAHHHH
I do think they both suffer from some sort of memory loss due to so much repression and subconscious distress. Kitty has developed her upbeat coping mechanism because that is who she is at her core. So much has happened in her life that should make her angry and withdrawn, but she's... not. And maybe some of that is by choice.
Then there's Cap who's been through a war (possibly two wars), so it's no surprise he would have a more serious and restricted outlook on things. He's on edge most of the time, even when he should be relaxed. Again, part of that could be by choice, but it's also just... who he is now?
I mean tbh all of the ghosts have some level of repression, but Kitty and Cap's (and Fanny's tbh) are on a different level. It's so great they were able to become close in the afterlife, which seems to have only happened very recently for them - i.e. after Alison and Mike arrived to the house
I'm not sure where I was going with this,, it's all sort of a brain dump. But yeah!! Kitty and Cap!

task #3- absence

dear ma,
hi ma, it's james. jim. it's been a while, a long... long time, actually. i miss you.
i bet you're worried sick right now, wondering if i've managed to get myself killed — i'm sure you're looking to the stars and just hoping that i'm alright. hoping i'm alive. that i'm safe. i am, ma, i'm all of those things. i haven't gotten into too much trouble, and morgan is here with me— she's not really assisting in the staying out of trouble part, but you know they'd never let me do anything that would actually put myself in danger. maybe my reputation but, never me— never my life.
so, a bit of an explanation— i got stuck in this town on a planet called 'earth,' which is honestly a pretty fascinating planet. i remember hearing stories about it but, i always thought it ceased to exist. yet, here it is !! the town im in, it's called evermore. i know... weird name for a town, right ?? i thought so too. what's even weirder about it is that you can't leave it— no matter what you do or where you go, you'll always end up right back in town. that's why i haven't come home. that's why i haven't been able to contact you. i've written tons of letters like this but... space-mail isn't really a thing. not yet, anyways.
i've been here about a year or so now, though i'm not entirely sure. time seems to move so much slower on earth and yet i feel like the days are slipping through my fingers. i had a girlfriend for a little while, you would of loved her. her name is rosetta. she was... like everything you could have dreamed of for me to find in a partner. she was a gardener, and she LOVED flowers. i think you would have went crazy seeing how different plants are on this planet. she had this wild red hair and always was dressed to the nines, and her accent ?? it was adorable. she was adorable. though, as you can assume by my use of the past tense— we're not together anymore. she wanted to settle down, start a life here, make evermore WORK but... i'm itching to get out, ma. i can't stay here for the rest of my life. not when there are so many corners of the galaxy left to explore. it was for the best, and i still care for her even if i am lousy at showing it, but, god you woulda loved her. i know you would have. you both could have mothered me together, scolded me for not getting my life together in unison. now that woulda been a sight.
i've done a lot of things i'm not proud of here. i've fallen back into old habits, had some brushing-of-elbows with the law, made a couple enemies.... your head would likely be rolling hearing about some of the nonsense i get into— especially when me and morgan are left to our own devices but... i'm doing my best, ma. i'm thinking about you everyday. i'm thinking about you and the inn and long john silver. you've always been the strongest person i've ever known, and i wish i had a way to show you sign that i'm alive and i'm doing okay.
i've got some cool friends amongst the enemies, and... theres this girl i've had the most embarrassing crush on for as long as i can remember and i'm finally getting to know her. ma, she is out of this world. getting to hang out with her, to hear her thoughts, to see her smile ?? it's greater than any treasure i could find or adventure i could go on. she has the most fascinating outlook on the world, and everyday i get to know her a little better. she helps to keep me grounded, reminds me that there is still adventure left to have here. i don't know why she gives me the time of day but man— i'm a lucky dude for it. don't get too excited, though, i'm not going to tell you her name. i don't want to jinx it, but maybe one day, if i don't mess this up, you'll get to meet her. i hope you do.
i miss you more than words can describe, ma. i'd give anything to have you here with me right now. you always worried about losing me, but i promise that no matter how many lightyears apart we are— you'll never lose me. i'm still upholding my promise, and i'm gonna make you proud.
look for me in the stars, ma. that's where i always seem to find you.
your son,
jim.
