Dublin 1997 - The interval act and other performances
The benefit of having a bona fide, 100% genuine pop star as a host is that the interval act is sorted. It's right there. In Oslo they had Morten Harket, and such was their extravagance, they had him as the opening song. They put on a huge separate interval act without him
Ireland and RTÉ weren't going to look a gift horse in the mouth and neither were Boyzone's management. The interval was Ronan and his fellow Boyzone band members performing their song Let the Message Run Free. Initially this just had Ronan on his own with a dance troupe, but he was soon joined by the boys dressed in full black leather trench coat ensemble, anticipating The Matrix by at least a year. They even got some choreography at the end to match the dancers.
This is Boyzone at the absolute pinnacle of their popularity. They were trying to make a push to break into the US market. To this day they're the second most popular boy band in the UK chart history after Take That. They're were also popular across Europe, so this is Eurovision getting a big name to start at the centre of the show - another attempt to get Eurovision to more credible and marketable across Europe.
If I'm honest, despite the contemporary big name, it's not particularly memorable. What you think of it will entirely depend on how well you think of Boyzone. There's no trip around Ireland on video. Nothing traditional, although Ireland have already ticked that off in 1994 and 1995. This is as straightforward a pop performance as you can get. And it only lasts about six minutes.
Colin loves eating junk food. His favourites are cheeseburgers and kebabs.

Colin delights in telling Jimmy Kimmel about his free kebabs 😂

In Ireland, Colin gets free kebabs from Abrakebabra. He orders a doner kebab! I’ve not had an Abrakebabra kebab in a long time but I remember it was good 😋
Colin Farrell was presented with Abrakebabra's Kebab Gold Card at Renards nightclub in Dublin, March 2003.
He has since been upgraded from a gold card to a black card with absolutely no restrictions!

Colin Farrell met Boyzone member Keith Duffy and models Glenda Gilson and Baiba to promote the 4th annual Abrakebabra for Childline Day, on 21 November 2007 in Dublin. On Sunday 25 November the Abrakebabra chain, celebrated it's 25th anniversary, and donated every cent it made to Childline, targetting over 100,000Euro.
Colin auditioned for the boyband Boyzone, singing Careless Whisper. If they did a bio movie of George Michael, I think Colin would be perfect for the role. Although, he claims he can’t sing 🤭
The interval act for the 1997 contest was Irish boy band Boyzone. The band's lead singer Ronan Keating also co-hosted the event. This was done in an effort to appeal to younger audiences.
Welcome to the Tournament of the hottest boy band members of the 80s/90s
It was inspired by all the tournaments pitting famous beautiful people versus famous beautiful people of specific eras and specific jobs. The polls should start on the 8th of April, leaving around two weeks for submissions. I’ve compiled a list already but you can submit other boys that aren’t on the list through a google form. Feel free to submit non english speaking boy bands.
Propaganda
The only pictures accepted will be pictures from the 80s/90s and very early 2000s. To submit propaganda either use the same google form as for submissions (even if the guy in question is already on the list) or through the submission box or tag me on posts.
I think I'm gonna write an essay about boybands and their stereotypes and how it kinda "shapes" personalities of mostly young girls according to their preferences
Here's the ones that comes to my mind:
The Mysterious One;
The "Bad Boy";
The Cute One;
The Funny One;
The Romantic/Ladies Man One;
The "Dad"/Captain One;
The Rebel One;
The Shy One;
Am I missing some? Probably yes. Some of these can be intertwined, depending on the case? Yes.
I'm thinking and trying to associate with all the boybands I like (yeah, yeah, I know it's a lot), but feel free to reblog and add more stereotypes. Also, feel free to write examples, like "Gary Barlow was Take That's 'dad'" (yeah yeah Captain Barlow, I know that)
Maybe some of them won't follow this rule, but I want to see your point, ppl, let's debate
