Are we surprised? Did we really not see this coming? For the past year, Asian Americans have tweeted, posted, and cried out for help. They’ve posted video after video of their elders being beaten to death, or slashed open with a boxcutter, or attacked with acid thrown in the face or lit on fire. AND NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE. Violent attacks against people of the AAPI community have gone up 150% since 2020, 68% of them being Asian women. Did we not think this was going to happen when a president in office spews irresponsible rhetoric that put a target on the backs of the AAPI community? No. Because now they’re justifying a white shooter who murders 8 people, 6 of them being Asian women, because he was a “sex addict” who was “having a bad day.” #saeed_ebadzadeh I am enraged. We have provided wedding photography and videography service to this lovely Hong Kong bride and British groom in Mid-Autumn Festival. The weather turned cooler, the event was warm with their all families' and guests' passions and emotions. We travelled to Angel, Islington and Newham in London for their wedding. http://www.foreverlovejourney.com/ This was our another challenging wedding day with total 14 hours coverage. A typical Chinese mix British style wedding with civil ceremony and Chinese banquet, different parts of celebration like tea ceremony, lion dance, cake cutting and party. https://www.facebook.com/LondonUKEuropeEngagementWedding/ We started early in the morning for bride's and bridesmaids' preparation in nHow hotel in Angel with photo and video shoot. This hotel has lots of fashionable designs, mixing with different lightings, modern with a sense of vintage decor... We have been serving in this town hall so many times for wedding photos and videos. We always have to rush if couples book this venue for ceremony. This time, it was even more rush, as the place is fully booked. Our another location was The Angelic bar/restaurant where the guests enjoy the drinks reception with delicious canapés and champagne. Our last venue was Yi-Ban Chinese Restaurant on Dockside Road, London. Thoughts from the DJ Booth - Ignorance is Bliss?

This year will mark my 9th anniversary as a DJ, and recently I've been reflecting a lot on the impact of that on my life. I always tell people who ask me that being a DJ is my hobby - the fact that I get paid to do it is a bonus, and I feel very lucky that I have a hobby that makes money. In truth, the more I DJ the less I enjoy it, for the simple reason that when it becomes like a job, I get lazy and don't apply the same dedication and creative thinking that I usually would.

There's always a lot of thoughts flowing around my head on what being a DJ really means, not just to me, but out there as well, and the thing that really astonishes me is how little appreciation there is out there for a good DJ. I'm not talking about those who are seriously into their music, since the specialist scenes have a lot more regard for DJs. What I'm talking about is the general Joe Public, the people that randomly go to bars and clubs on the weekend to look for a good time. The party scene has changed so much from when I was younger - there seems to be less focus on the music and more on how good one looks and how much can be spent on drinking. Anywhere around Soho is a perfect example of this; gone are the days when someone like Trevor Nelson could run a regular night in a major Central London venue and pack the place out with clubbers who are only going there for the music.

Over the weekend I was invited to Archer Street bar. It's an interesting place and one that I recommend. They have a mad concept where all the waitresses can sing, and every 15 minutes or so one of them will jump on the mic and belt out an anthem. The decor is pleasing and the drinks are generally good quality. However one thing I noticed was the DJ, who wasn't even using headphones while mixing, and relying completely on software to do the mixing for him. As a result his set sounded like crap - but the worst thing was, it looked like no one actually cared.

There are three reasons for this - firstly most of the punters were too drunk to notice, secondly he played a constant stream of popular music, and lastly, and perhaps most importantly, no one was actually there for the music. Which in itself is a perfect reflection of how the value of a good DJ has been forgotten. If the venue had actually hired a decent DJ who knew what he was doing, then they would almost certainly have people queuing round the block to get in, since people would actually remember the place as not just having a really cool concept, but really awesome music too. Just to clarify, I am definitely not turning my nose up at popular music - it's in the charts for reason, but I will say that a proper DJ would get the best out of it, instead of just randomly throwing chart topping tracks on and pressing the buttons.

The other thing that 2014 brings for me on a personal level is my return to Chinese/Asian parties. I decided to quit them back in 2010 for a variety of reasons but the main one was that I felt that doing those nights wouldn't give me the personal development I was looking for as a DJ. When I first started them back in 2005 there was more appreciation for what I was trying to do - every time I played I was always bringing in new music and experimenting with different tracks. However as time went on the crowds became far less appreciative of this. One of the last straws was when I started playing Far East Movement's "Like a G6' - I had the song two or three months before it became really big in the UK, and I thought it would do well, so I started dropping it into my sets. Then I was told in no uncertain terms by both punters and promoters that I wasn't playing enough bangers, and should stop putting in these so called "no so good tracks." Lo and behold, three months later it's tearing up the charts and people were begging me to play it.

When I first started partying I always loved hearing new tracks from DJs - this was before internet became widespread and the only way to hear new music was to go to clubs and see what was being played. With the advancement of the internet, everyone can go and find new songs and get it on their ipod almost immediately. This has changed people's perception of what a good DJ can bring to the table and has resulted in far less appreciation for hearing tunes they don't know, even if it's a bloody good song. With the chinese crowd this is even worse - unless you're playing their favourite song, they don't want to know. Which is really depressing, since when I first started promoting and spinning and at Asian parties, they offered great opportunities to young fresh chinese DJs who were constantly evolving and bringing out new music, and were unable to get sets anywhere else because of their ethnicity.

Ever since I have left the chinese scene, I have received so much more love and appreciation for what I do. When I left, I decided to concentrate more on radio and the independent music scene, and honestly, it's completely changed my perspective on what I do. For the first time since I started this journey, I was actually called a musician (that's another blog post), and respected as an artist. It's saddens me so much that I couldn't get that love from my own community - not just on a personal level, but for all the other chinese DJs I have worked with in England, some of them who I see as far more talented and hardworking than I am.

So why have I returned? Honestly it's more out of loyalty and trust to a friend than any other reason. Since I left the chinese scene to explore other avenues, I have learned so much and really expanded my horizons - I wish I had stepped out and followed that path a couple of years earlier. I doubt that there will be any appreciation from the majority of clubbers for the direction I'm going in now or the skills that I have acquired since I left, but there's no harm in trying. But what I will get are promoters that know and appreciate my skills better than anyone else. So that's half the battle won, and for that, I think them. I've sorely missed it.

We have provided wedding photography service for a lovely Hong Kong bride and groom on their very happy day during the pandemic days in Gunnersbury Park in Acton, West London and Hong Kong City Chinese restaurant in New Cross, East London. http://www.foreverlovejourney.com/ We have met this friendly couple a long time ago, roughly around 3 and half years. Like a lot of our other clients have postponed their weddings, this couple has also postponed their wedding for a year. The wedding has two parts - A white wedding and Chinese traditional banquet with tea ceremony, giving respect to parents, elder relatives, getting their blessings, gifts, golds and red packets. And of course, the highlight of the banquet is toasting.
