El hashtag para las causas de la comunidad #LGBTQ

En el post del ciberactivismo se habló de la facilidad de hacer comunidad gracias a las redes sociales. Para eso existen varias maneras: funciones de búsqueda, compartir publicaciones, mensajería directa, grupos afines abiertos o cerrados, y una herramienta muy simple y muy poderosa: el hashtag, representado como una serie de caracteres antecedidos por un símbolo gato (#).

En el mundo virtual el hashtag o etiqueta tiene una función archivística: cada #etiqueta permite relacionar cualquier contenido que la tenga a través de un hipervínculo, de manera que se puede acceder a cualquier contenido creado por otros usuarios, en cualquier momento, siempre que se acceda al #hashtag. Es un punto de identificación y reunión para que los usuarios identifiquen contenidos.

Una etiqueta virtual funciona tal como una etiqueta real, quien la lee puede encontrar significado condensado en apenas unas palabras. En poco tiempo, se ha convertido en un vehículo para el activismo, dando vida a movimientos sociales populares, como para el feminismo lo fueron el uso del hashtag #Aborto3causales, #alertamorada #niunamenos y #metoo. Este último de cobertura global para hablar de abusos hacia mujeres y significar que no se está solo porque #metoo (a mí también), mientras que el primero habla de la legislación chilena en torno a la despenalización del aborto. Otro ejemplo podría ser la concientización sobre el racismo hacia la comunidad asiática luego del surgimiento del virus SARS-CoV-2, con #hateisavirus.

Aún así, el hashtag no se limita a eventos específicos y puede abarcar espacios comunes simples, como #catlover para cualquier persona que ame a su mascota, incluso más sencillo aún, #vacaciones para cualquier persona que esté de, justamente, vacaciones. La cotidianeidad puede convivir y coexistir en una misma publicación a través de uno o varios hashtags, en las manos de cualquier persona.

En redes sociales como Facebook, Twitter, TikTok e Instagram existe gente que comparte su cotidianeidad y la acompaña de etiquetas. Dependiendo de la plataforma y el grupo etario, el contenido puede ser más o menos transparente. No es extraño encontrar jóvenes en TikTok que comparten su proceso de descubrimiento entorno a su identidad de género y/o orientación sexual, que, si bien para algunos puede ser controversial, el hashtag que lo acompaña indica un contexto casual, si usa, por ejemplo, #selfdiscovery o #autodescubrimiento.

La comunidad LGTBIQ se puede manifestar en un espacio a la par de comunidades de cualquier interés, y los cuerpos queer se tornan virales exponiendo pasos de bailes, sus ocurrencias o talentos. El influencer puede no ser un activista si así desea y sólo usar el hashtag #transgender; si otro usuario ingresa al hipervínculo para dicha etiqueta, encontrará que está lado a lado con otras que pueden tener corte más polémico o político. Nuestro influencer se ha convertido en activista incidental —aunque no es un pensamiento nuevo, ya que la idea de que todo acto es político lleva circulando la literatura desde hace eones—. El activismo incidental puede verse en coreografías de TikTok o publicaciones de Instagram, donde a la par de seguir las últimas tendencias, también pueden exponer sus procesos personales de cambio corporal a través de la hormonización y cirugías.

Las etiquetas que más ayudan al ciberactivismo son aquellas que llegan a un público extremadamente amplio y heterogéneo, es decir, son aquellos hashtags que se viralizan. La campaña adjunta a la etiqueta se transmite como un virus: de una persona concreta a sus contactos estrechos, al ser quienes sienten una mayor deber de apoyar causas importantes para sus cercanos; luego estos contactos estrechos a sus propios contactos estrechos, que pueden no estar familiarizados con la campaña, pero sí con la corriente activista de una manera más general; entonces estas personas proceden a compartir el contenido una vez más, haciéndolo presente en círculos distintos a los originales, en donde puede haber simpatizantes que vuelvan a compartir el hashtag y así sucesivamente. La viralización se logra mientras un mayor número de usuarios interactúa con el contenido que el hashtag acompaña, lo busca, lo comparte, lo replica.

El ciberactivismo se vale de la difusión de determinadas etiquetas ya que logra gran exposición con un mínimo nivel de compromiso y un coste material muy bajo. Una campaña viralizada puede salir de la difusión por internet y llegar a medios tradicionales como la prensa escrita o programas radiales, además de inspirar acciones presenciales de otros grupos que suman su apoyo a la campaña. La campaña finalmente se vuelve un tema de interés, contingente, que está instalado en la agenda política del momento.

Por ejemplo, tenemos el caso de #matrimonioigualitario #familiaesfamilia #loveislove. Todas estas frases fueron intensamente difundidas desde fundaciones que promueven los derechos del Colectivo LGTBIQ. #loveislove tiene un alcance mundial y envuelve cualquier publicación que habla de un romance no heterosexual, mientras que #familiaesfamilia y #matrimonioigualitario tienen nociones y alcances distintos. El primero puede ser usado por cualquier persona hispanohablante que refiera a una familia no tradicional, ya sea monoparental, homoparental, formada a través de adopción, o dónde alguno de los padres tenga una identidad de género distinta. El segundo entra en un contexto chileno, específico a una petición de cambios legislativos. Una vez se logró su cometido, la etiqueta ha cambiado su tono y ha dado paso a otras experiencias que también hablen sobre el matrimonio entre parejas del mismo sexo en Chile.

Otro ejemplo, del uso de las etiquetas en pos del ciberactivismo es la denuncia contra crímenes de odio, como ocurrió con #JusticiaparaNicoleSaavedra y #NicoleSaavedra. Ambos denunciando los efectos que la discriminación tienen contra quienes no se apegan a la estética de una sociedad heteronormativa. Gracias a la intensa campaña en redes sociales, la comunidad lésbica pudo hacer oír su voz, crear sentido de solidaridad e interpelar directamente al ente persecutor (Ministerio Público) para que diera prioridad a la investigación del lesbicidio. Amén que permitió coordinar acciones de protestas in situ.

Finalmente, la etiqueta se ha convertido en una herramienta de difusión que el ciberactivismo puede usar de una manera muy versátil. Permite que creadores de contenido de diversas posturas se encuentren, alimentándose de la interseccionalidad. Hoy en día una persona activista puede unir frente al mundo posturas como la reivindicación de género con causas antirracistas o en favor de la comunidad queer. El nivel de compromiso requerido es suficientemente bajo como para que una sola figura de su apoyo a varias causas y muestre aristas nuevas de lo que puede llegar a significar ser parte de varias comunidades simultáneamente, todo gracias al cristal utilizado por cada usuario de manera individual a través de la masiva categoría que es el hashtag.

Eight people were killed yesterday in a shooting spree that targeted Asian women in Atlanta, GA. Three spas were hit, six of the victims were Asian women, yet it's "too early to say" that the shooting was racially motivated (but we know the truth).

Even though we spend a lot of time on this blog talking about anti-Black racism, earlier this month we were discussing intersectionality and it would be remiss of us not to call out the up-tick in anti-Asian racism and corresponding violence in America. Anti-Asian racism and violence and anti-Black racism and violence stems from the same source: white supremacy.

I'll post this whole thread on a separate post, but something Imani Gandy said on Twitter makes perfect sense:
