Fives's extremely boring accountant brother Nathaniel ends up being incredibly critical to one of the biggest moments in the comic. I'm still designing him but I think he's going to have a stupid-looking pesudo-quiff.

Maybe the problem with Christian fiction is that it's non-denominational. People are just "Christian", with no effort put into showing what practicing that religion looks like for them specifically. No indication that there are other Christians who could have different beliefs. No wrestling with differing ideas and the struggle of how one should live out their Christian faith. And that makes it unrealistic and unrelatable.

#me reading any christian historical fiction set in england: why are none of these gentry anglican??#they ARE all anglican and if they are not it is extremely plot and character relevant you can't just have them using evangelical buzzwords #but i'm also thinking of this because i started another charlotte yonge book #that is by far my favorite of the things of hers that i've read #because it has characters who have different upbringings and religious opinions #instead of just 'here's a bunch of high church anglicans judging people who don't live up to their victorian standard'#you have the very high church anglican rector whose wife is worldly but still a very good person #the girl raised in a very strict protestant family who is more scrupulous than the anglicans but is still recognized as a good person #you have people who are trying to work out the nuances of different issues #and that makes it so much more realistic and so much easier to integrate into the story #(the politics though are hilarious)#(most of the classics that survive are the ones that were 'ahead of their time' in politics)#(so it's equally fascinating and refreshing and a bit infuriating to see one that is very very of its time with regards to women's rights)#('why did this woman get up at the meeting and explain her very good ideas for rebuilding after the fire? she should have had a man do it')#(meanwhile i'm just screaming 'why on earth SHOULDN'T she???')#(it's almost enough to make a feminist of me)

the thing is, i love The Narrative, but i also absolutely adore a truly character-focused tragedy where everyone’s downfall is caused not by larger narrative forces, but by hundreds of tiny decisions made by characters who, despite their best efforts, just suck.

#like. The Narrative is inherently a factor in every story because that’s how fiction works #there is ALWAYS a writer pulling the strings #but sometimes characters are written SO well that you legitimately forget #and you can just focus 100% on them and their choices #most characters can’t make choices but some characters are so good that they can #i can only think of a few examples of this - but it is real and i stand by that #there are stories that were created plot-first #where the author had a plot in mind and then made up characters to play it out (who are controlled by The Narrative they were forced into)#and then there are stories that were created character-first #where the author made up some fucked up characters and then let them loose to see what they would do #and THAT is some good stuff #and like. tbf i have ABSOLUTELY no idea if the story i’m thinking of was created that way - but it just feels like it #because the characters feel so much like real people #it’s fucked up. i love it

I want to make a longer post about this someday but: I think Arya's TWOW arc is going to include her coming to terms with her identity as a Lady. This has been an ongoing conflict with her since her first chapter and I think her flowering in winds is going to mark a turning point. The theory of her having an apprenticeship with the courtesans holds a lot of weight and the idea of Arya going through puberty among a group of unconventional women she's fostered a positive relationship with is just too perfect. It would really have an impact on Arya reconciling her personal idea of what a Lady should be. There's also a lot that she could learn from them in terms of courtesies, communication, appearances, body-language, etc. that would elevate her current skill-set and ways her relationship with them could push the plot.

Not to mention she will undoubtedly reclaim her identity as Arya Stark, and her being a Lady is inseparable from that. Arya Stark is a Lady Stark and being a Lady is a social position, not a measure of how well someone preforms feminine tasks. She shouldn't have to relinquish her position because she doesn't fit patriarchal standards. That's not to say that she's ever going to be the perfect example of a traditional Lady but what I think will happen is that she becomes capable of playing the part. She plays several identities throughout the series but she's always been Arya underneath, so I think it's appropriate that she learns to adopt a "persona" that's part of her. Her remembering Ned putting on his "Lord's face" (+ the various examples of other characters being separate from their ruling persona) makes me think that Arya will be donning her "Lady's face" when she makes a return to Westeros.

#arya stark #asoiaf #twow speculations #Arya has been through so much traumatic shit and I think her flowering is going to bring up a lot of her self-esteem issues #I just really need her surrounded by kind older women when that happens so she can have some comfort #George saying her arc in braavos could be the plot of a YA novel?? definitely makes me think she's going to grow up a lot there #she's already one of the most mature characters so I think part of it's going to be her accepting her duty as a Stark Lady #she wants to help and protect people and the best way she can do that is if she has political power #She could learn that first hand in TWOW #possibly through her finding out about her marriage??? and meeting Jeyne in Braavos??#and before someone says it courtesans are so much more then sex work so I don't want to hear it #they are such a big part of Braavosi high life...they're cultured and connected with very important people #I just have so many thoughts on the subject cause I think her apprenticeship with them will serve multiple purposes #the faceless men and their plans...the iron bank...the sealord...It's all connected and I think her apprenticeship with them will kick off #the braavos plot and could mark the beginning of the end of her time with the faceless men and in braavosi #half a boy half a wolf pup -> half a lady half a wolf #I think her current skillset fits well and it's likely she'll learn even more in TWOW #Arya defining her own role as a Lady and becoming comfortable means so much to me

there is something sooo fucking good about early seasons ian and mickey, about watching this summer fling turn into something more, the fear that elicited from mickey but him being unable to stop, finding those little moments hidden away and taking all this meaning from small gestures and persevering in dugouts and under bleachers and barely pressed confessions in the back of a church that is soo good for my brain

like i am very glad mickey gets to shout his love for ian from the mountain tops and also beat his love for ian into his dad's face but when he was clenching his teeth shut and his love for ian was coming out regardless ohhhhh baby i was eating

I have a groundbreaking concept.

A wedding episode/story where nothing unusual goes wrong (or even NEARLY goes wrong) and the audience and characters both just get to enjoy this big event without it going off the rails at any point.

#this is not inspired by any particular case just by my general grumpiness with the way Wedding Episodes seem to pan out #i don't WANT something to go dramatically wrong! i don't want the wedding to be called off or end up cobbled together out of the wreckage!#this should be a great opportunity to show your characters' bonds and love for each other--both in the pairing and the community around the #also i just hate seeing people's hard work and plans wrecked and do you know how much work goes into a wedding??#i WANT to see the dress and the cake and the flowers and the reception that they worked so hard on actually come to fruition #but probably most of all and especially. weddings ARE supposed to be the start of a Happily Ever After and if you've done your job right #then the characters getting married should have MERITED that #the plot can continue after sure. but i want them to get One Nice Day for the start of their new life. marriage deserves celebration #and domesticity! marriage deserves the domesticity of an episode where everyone successfully enjoys a really nice party after the wedding!

actually my favorite thing ever is when people draw eiffel with a regular open coffee mug and the coffee is half-floating out. like officially there’s no gravity on the hephaestus, but in spirit i think that’s the truer representation of wolf 359’s approach to science. it works however it works. it’s incredibly dumb. i love it. no notes.

so one character got to learn how to live again, how to reenter society after traumatizing event that will forever impact his life, got to heal and rebuild his relationship with his family even estranged father, reconnected with his old friends and was able to create reliable support system of people that also grew throughout this healing process and now can understand him more and be there for him, got to graduate and start his own business and now can even give inspirational speeches to help others

and the other one had to leave two closest people to him that were his only support after his family death bc 'friends' he had before weren't type of people worth reconnecting with, move out of his country abandoning everything he knew his whole life just to * checks notes * start a job he didn't really want and the main reason he needed higher pay was to establish financial stability for one of two people who he had to leave and that no longer wanted to be with him

okay yea okay sure both cases are about personal 'growth'

#last twilight #to clarify it's more about time skip and the talk at the end of part 2 bc yea ofc mhok also changed throughout whole series in general #the fact that 'growth' for mhok was equal to getting a job just doesn't sit well with me #his sister killed herself bc of their financial problems and then they put sole responsibility on him for providing for himself and day #and it felt like it was about more than just day's disability #like ironically his mechanic friend offered more support and understanding than most of the other characters #what kind of 'growth' is uprooting yourself and leaving everyone behind when you are still in vulnerable state and need someone to rely on #it would make sense in other story with other character but here it just hurts #i do have some other problems with the series as a whole but nothing that wasn't said already #everyone is angry at part 4 but end of part 2 was the breaking point for me #moving out for work is extremely lonely and alienating experience especially when it's not even to a country you particularly care about #what is the lesson here with mhok's plot line?#to completely isolate yourself to heal from your trauma somehow without anyone close to you?#and oh yea job being the most important thing for 'personal growth' actually?#in hotel in hawaii nonetheless...#i'm getting so tired of these series not being able to stick the landing fr

BOTW is as much about the future #MEANWHILE #TOTK is trying to tell a linear timeline of events in the most un-linear way possible #You HAVE to do the glyphs in order or risk being confused af #I can't imagine getting the 🗡 glyph early and having that plot turning point completely spoiled for eg #So you pretty much have to just traipse round the map to find the glyphs one by one (a boring chore)#Literally such a dumbass decision im sorry. i do think its very funny how one piece is simultaneously more and less sexist than like 80% of shounen

#its like that one post that goes ''eiichiro oda is both an lgbt ally and enemy'' (which is very true)#but like with feminism #one piece #lorillee.txt #sadly enough i think one of the biggest indicators of the quality of the female characters #is that people who arent exclusively lesbians have robin or nami as their top fave character #(no offense to lesbians who are creating 80% of the content for their fave characters in fandoms who hate women. you are doing gods work)#its like. the female characters are genuinely spectacularly developed and never feel flat when compared with any of the male characters #and theyre wildly plot relevant to like the entirety of the series. if you take out the women you cant have one piece #and their dreams and personalities and characters dont revolve around the male characters #but also the tashigi vs monet fight is genuinely one of the most misogynistic things i have ever read ever #just because theres like. 5 different layers of things going on that just. it just snowballs into one terrible horrifically sexist mess #between tashigi and zoro and kuina and monet and yeah wow no . -1000000 / 10 fight worst fight in one piece no contest #and also the fact that there is 1 (one) body type for ''young woman''#as so elegantly illustrated by that one sbs (which. i will admit. it does make me laugh its funny)#oda truly is a . i dont know. something.
