I've been thinking a lot about Porsche post season 1, and it's honestly taken me a really long time to come to terms with what I think the future holds for him (and a potential season 2, my version of it anyway), but I think i've finally figured out that niggling feeling at the back of my mind telling me that this is the calm before the storm.

This isn't Porsche's happy ending. How could it be? The show went to great lengths to demonstrate to us and remind us time and time again that Porsche hates loan sharks and predators, and that's exactly what he's become. And it is what he's become. The show may never give it to us in explicit detail, but we're made aware that the role of the second family is very different to the first family. Their role is the dark, bloody, messy bullshit that the first family can't afford to sully their hands with. It's the racketeering, extortion, drugs, torture, gang wars, murder and violence that is typical of the real mafia world. Porsche, an orphan who spent his entire life under the yoke of loan sharks, is now responsible for operating a bloody and violent criminal empire. And that's supposed to be his happily ever after?

In reality, I don't think Porsche would ever have accepted the role and the ring if Kinn hadn't been the one offering them to him, and even then I don't think Porsche would have accepted the role unless he knew that if he didn't, he would lose Kinn. Because, as much as Kinn loves Porsche, as much as he wants him and would never hurt him willingly again, as much as he would never choose to leave him, Kinn was raised an heir. Kinn was shaped and molded to take up the mantle of his fathers legacy. Kinn bears the full weight of the responsibility for his family on his shoulders, and he has for the majority of his life, a life that has never completely been his own. Kinn cannot walk away from it, he would never be able to live with himself, he wouldn't be himself, and I think Porsche knows that. Kinn may be soft and loving and affectionate in private, but in public, Kinn is cold, calculated and ambitious-- but there can't be one without the other. Both are what makes Kinn who he is.

So Porsche accepts the ring and the role as head of the minor family because he knows that if he doesn't, he's forcing Kinn to choose between his family and Porsche, between his dark side and his lighter side, and I think Porsche, rightfully, is terrified that he doesn't know what Kinn would ultimately choose.

So the choice ends up being Porsche's, and he chooses Kinn. We know this, because he explicitly rejects the idea of belonging to the second family, emphasizing that it's Kinn's side he's on, demonstrating that his position is entirely contingent on Kinn. He makes the sacrifice of becoming everything he once hated, just so Kinn doesn't have to make an impossible choice.

But how long can that last?

How long will Porsche be able to cheat and lie and extort and murder before it starts to really get to him? How long is he going to be able to act like the tough, unaffected mafia boss when he hates everything he now stands for? How long will it be before he starts to resent Kinn for it? How long before he loses himself?

THAT'S what I think would make for a fascinating season 2: Porsche's descent into darkness, his abandoning of himself, for the sake of the man he loves. Porsche trying to reconcile the things he has to do and the man he has to become, all for the sake of Kinn. And Kinn watching Porsche's joy and brightness and goodness slowly flicker, fade and die, knowing that it's for him. Because of him.

I think there's only one way that it all ends: Kinn has to make a choice. Kinn has to choose. Either he becomes the man his father meant for him to be, following in his footsteps and adopting the mantle of ruthless criminal leader, or he rejects his father, and by proxy his family, and chooses Porsche. The longer Kinn waits to make his decision, the more of Porsche he will lose.

I'm probably in the minority with this but I wish the first 3 arcs of Sailor Moon Crystal were a two-part movie series (like they did with Eternal and Cosmos.).

This will probably make the Crystal fans seethe at the mouth bc God forbid anyone has an opinion different from them. But we probably would've avoided a lot of the embarrassing poor animation choices had they turned the material into two-part movies for each arc. They'd have more time to focus on the good bits that moved the story along. They'd have more time to also focus on the animation quality of the movies.

Maybe, as a result, they could've spent more time honing their character designs versus getting better after three FULL seasons of SMC.

Sorry not sorry, the designs in Eternal and Cosmos are way better than the poor attempts to copy Naoko's style that plagued the first 3 seasons of SMC.

why i think you should watch burn notice

It's great. Like the bad kind of great

Burn Notice is one of the classic 00's Special Maverick White Man shows

Follows the hijinks of burned spy Michael Westen who tries to get back in the CIA (etc) but most importantly earns cash (that he always turns down later out of morality) saving people from bad guys

He does this by putting on various cover identities that are SO FUN bc his actual personality is so flat and it's just like YAYYY whenever he does a fun cover ID

It's the most queer platonic show alive. Michal has 2 (then three) side kicks and they all have platonic relationships for the majority of the show. There is a romance that's honestly mostly smoldering looks and them sleeping in the same bed. They are ride or die to the most literal level and just...are generally obsessed with one another completely in the most lovable dysfunctional way

6. Some of the best adult survivor of child abuse shit out there! Immediately from the beginning the show explicitly knows and lives in that Michael is an expert in survival, creating new versions of himself and compulsively helping people (and feels guilty for doing so) because of it. But it also knows in lives in that he is FUCKED UP and it isn't the best thing in the world!

7. And depicts navigating a relationship with the remaining family as a painful complicated thing with no "BUT SHE'S YOUR MOM" business

ALWAYS BACK UP YOUR DENIAL WITH PROOF AND EVIDENCE KIDS

1) well okay, first off, the classic rule that if a character dies off screen, they're probably not dead. classic time tested rule!

2) they made so much merch of her, not to mention she's literally the face of the franchise as one of the first characters liam made for the show. They aren't going to kill off such an iconic and integral character this early on. remember, we still have SEVERAL more seasons to go!

3) the lyrics of eternal dream, which are supposedly about V's inner thoughts and wishes, states that she is tired of this dream (life), which is more of a nightmare for her. I'm going to annotate the entirety of it on genius sometime this week hopefully /srs, but the last line is "I can't end this dream", a desperate cry, for she can't escape her living nightmare, where she is hurt and used and traumatized so much, but also, in our case, potential evidence of her coming back? nola klop, her va, also said that this version isn't the whole song, since she mentions being excited for the full version. and since it's about V, a full version, along with that line, implies she will return. mostly that latter point though, ill admit the single line might be a stretch LOLL but i figured eh might as well include it...

4) J's still off reading about stock prices or whatever in tessa's space ship lol. J's doing J things and she might've gotten bored and went exploring and ended up finding and saving V. we literally have no idea what she's doing besides getting a command to look after tessa's vehicle, which she can probably do from a relative distance. she's stated as a workaholic, but that means she'd also probably get bored quickly if she has nothing to actively do, if there isn't anything for her to be actively guarding, she might wander off while simply occasionally checking the ship. (I also want more J too she's so fucking funny)

5) she had her eyes closed during the final scene where we see her! If she had kept them closed, then she should be fine in regards to getting bootlooped at least. maybe she was scared, or was embarrassed in a way, not wanting herself or anyone else to see her in this raw, vulnerable state she hates and fears so much. and unless the sentinels tear out her heart/core, she'll probably be fine and can regenerate herself. (side note: alice has an id card like nori and yeva, doll's mother. she was one of the patient zero drones who were purposefully infected with solver in order to see it's effects and conduct research, so she'll probably be back as well, considering she's most likely a solver user. beau might be back, i can't say for sure, all depends if she decides to revive him or not. the disassembly drone corpses in cabin fever labs were probably because alice used a combination of sentinels and solver manipulation to take them down and remove their hearts, which we can see she keeps in an old oven, which is why they can't regenerate themselves anymore and are effectively dead. the hearts are the "worm" thing uzi mentioned would come out of V if alice cut her up.)

6) while the show itself has a lot of gags, it's also brimming with genuine love for detail and lore, like they're fucking around, but they're also not fucking around. V has a lot to tell us still, since she's been extremely mysterious and quiet about her own personal past, probably due to trauma and being terrified of being vulnerable, since she was so often hurt when she let her guard down. a lot of things about her aren't really directly mentioned, and are just IMPLIED, the most prominent examples being her genuine inner thoughts, since there are many zoom-ins to her face and expressions, but we are only left to guess on what she's really thinking. so they're not going to let her go just yet; in fact, i think the next episode will be one centered around her (probably more flashbacks? who knows, but i think since she's been important, but not centered on really until now, she'll recieve her own time in the spotlight.)

7) similar to the point above, her character arc is far from over, and if she were to die now, it'd be a crime against her character and the entire story. she was and still is a vital part of the team, but everyone else was so wrapped up in their own plans or infatuations that poor V ended up getting almost completely ignored. even though she loves everyone deep down, and protects them with her life, she never once got a thank you, or asked how she's doing, or anything. all she got was mostly light arguements and insults back-- the last thing uzi said to her was "you, ew! you're mean!", while the last thing V said to uzi was "uzi, I trust you." one could argue that because of her snarky attitude, she's kind of walking into these scuffles, but...really? no one ever stopped for one second to think about that person right next to them and think about who they are beyond that snark? not even N, who's been with her since the beginning, and openly admitted to having a crush on her? or tessa, her superior, who presumably rescued her from the dump, gave her clothes and hair and companionship? she squealed upon seeing N, but didn't give a single glance at V aside from an argument near the end of the episode, and a reflection of V looking solemnly back in her helmet. i genuinely think that because of these mistakes, she'll come back... eventually, at least, so hopefully they can learn from their mistakes and treat her better this time around, for they are getting a second chance, and everyone can slowly start healing together. V has a very broken heart, so for her to fully heal, i unfortunately don't think that will happen for a long time, but she can begin the process slowly, if her teammates start treating her more kindly, as a peer, someone whose thoughts and opinions and feelings matter too, rather than just someone to be snarky and argued with.

to summarize, she has an almost 99.9% chance of coming back because she's the face of the franchise, along with having a bunch of merchandise, it'd be kind like of shooting yourself in the foot to kill off the literal most iconic character, the literal icon. the final lyrics of eternal dream and the mention from her va that this current version isn't even the full length version, implies V will come back, especially since the song is from her point of view. lastly, her character arc is far from over, since while being a vital part of the team, her teammates have been ignoring her for the most part ever since episode 2, even though she's been there with them this entire time. bringing her back gives everyone a chance to make it up to her, and brings both parties to a point of healing. lastly, her character arc aside, she has much to tell us about the lore, since she is implied to know and be hiding a lot, but since she is so mysterious due to her painful past, it is hard for her to open up. the last two points are connected, as if she is more comfortable, she'll open up more, revealing more about the lore and story along with it.

Out of all the characters ive loved throughout the years, i genuinely do think she is the most tragic one. considering the only real decision she was ever allowed to make was sacrificing herself to the sentinels, possibly in an attempted suicide to finally end all of the pain welled up in her heart? yeah.

she's probably one of my favourite characters of all time, even though ive only recently watched it, she has already made a permanent mark on my heart. i really, truly do hope that she comes back, because she deserves it. she deserves to heal and be appreciated for who she is, and she deserves a space where she's comfortable enough to let down her walls and be her honest self again. i think if she comes back, we'll see a much more vulnerable and timid side of her we haven't seen before except for occasional rare moments. she'll still be snarky, but it'll take her a while to recover from the initial shock of all her emotional turmoil surrounding her sacrifice, as well as get used to all the new attention she's getting. after that, however, she'll recover and start healing and come back as a stronger, happier, and still very snarky V. ♡

KIWI DIP. HELLO MY BELOVED.

I was first introduced to Kiwi Dip by @jessikast in a thread about weird recipes; I immediately became obsessed not just with the dip but with the fact that seasonally, kiwi dip “kits” are available that come with a commemorative Kiwi Dip Bowl.

It’s made much as American onion dip is generally made, using onion soup mix stirred into a dairy product, but in Aotearoa / New Zealand it’s a very specific brand (Maggi brand) and a dairy product we don’t have in America, “reduced cream”. There are various versions of canned cream we do have in the US but I wasn’t finding some and others clearly weren’t the right thing. @miss-kitty-fantastico eventually sent me a packet of onion soup mix and some Reduced Cream to make it with, and I learned the true delights of kiwi dip; it does taste very different to regular onion dip.  

@arvethli later sent me a handful of dip mix packets at my request, but reduced cream is heavy and expensive to ship from Aotearoa / New Zealand -- it’s $30 postage for a $2 can -- so I’ve used a packet with sour cream occasionally, but I’ve kind of been saving them to test Reduced Cream substitutes on.

And I finally found one! “Media Crema,” a Nestle product also called Table Cream, was suggested to me by @kruthie73 and it turns out Target stocks it in the “Mexican” aisle. It isn’t the exact same thing as reduced cream, but it’s very, very close, and it has that lovely zing of flavor reduced cream has, where there’s an almost boursin-like quality to the dip after it’s been thickened in the fridge. 

Anyway just thought I’d share that if you’re looking for a taste of Aotearoa / New Zealand in America, Media Crema is a great go-to for a reduced cream substitute.

to a certain degree, i understand people justifying izzy's death through saying it's narratively cohesive or it makes sense thematically. cause like from the way they set up his arc i could def see a conclusion in which he dies and it is narratively satisfying (don't get me wrong id still be heartbroken, but it COULD work thematically) but only if it was given the proper amount of TIME. a SIGNIFICANT amount of time. like that shit shouldve been saved for the s3 finale.

there are good thematic foundations in the beginning of s3. lots of foreshadowing and initial new character arcs that were intriguing. but people are picking up on those foundations and justifying the later actions of the show based on the themes that were set up initially. but the problem is that the show skipped right to the payoff of those foundations. and when you cut out the middle man, you lose the entire story. all you're left with is those initial themes and then a cut straight to the conclusion.

especially in the case of izzy, this leaves a LOT of bad implications since his arc was so sensitive and required so much more care than it was given. and like im not just focusing on him cause i like his tits (i do like his tits tho dgmw). a story arc so sensitive about a character becoming disabled as he struggles with abuse, alcoholism, and suicide cannot be rushed like that. the other arcs were disappointing, but this one honestly felt harmful. and thats such a shame.

imo it's a problem of too many good ideas and too little time to execute them, as so many shows being released recently are. and thats especially common in ensemble heavy tv like OFMD. i can see what they were trying to do, and of course i want all the characters to be developed and have their own stories. but when you're making an ensemble story, you have to go into it knowing that there are certain areas you just won't be able to cover because of time. that isn't to say you can't have an ensemble show that develops everyone well and thoroughly, but you should also be cognizant of whether the stories you want to tell REALLY NEED the extra time you might not have. and thats where s2 failed i think :(

i still love OFMD, and frankly, i didn't hate season 2. there were a lot of aspects and new characters that were very strong (zheng in particualr is ICONIC and might be my new favorite character). i commend the writers and actors for the work they did in creating it, especially under the conditions that eventually led to the strike. and frankly, if the first and only people you blame for an unsuccessful season of a show are the writers, you probably have a very skewed idea of how TV is created and released. but like its okay to critique the things u love while acknowledging that

Ekvillan - 'The oak villa'

Ekvillan is a spacious family villa inspired by swedish architecture from the turn of the last century.

I chose to call it 'Ekvillan' - 'The oak villa' in swedish, since there is a big oak tree in the garden. It has a vegetable garden, bees, a chicken coop, and a treehouse. There's plenty of cozy little spots to hang out and eat 'fika'.

i already did a vanessa redesign but i thought it would be cool if the characters' designs changed a bit through the seasons

- pre-wing-prosthetics (so most of s1) she wears clothing that covers her back (cuz she has scars from getting her wings ripped off there and she'd rather cover that), she gets prosthetics somewhere near the s1 finale so i thought she'd change up her clothes a bit so her wings would be free

- she also has scars, stitches n bandages from the finale fight with lute

- the stitches on her face were done by husk (the most qualified person to do this would probably be pentious but.. yk... gotta settle for second best ig)

- here's a version with a wedding ring because i love chaggily and im self-indulgent...... they're in a polyamorous marriage idc

the ring is not on her finger because 1) she has bandages there, 2) she has fingerless gloves and it'd be pretty uncomfortable to put a ring on top of all that

Where to read ENNEAD by Mojito, the boy's love manhwa

"The once peaceful land of Egypt has been stained with blood under the tyrannical rule of Seth, the god of war. The ancient mythology of Egypt comes to life as you've never seen it before in this compelling fantasy BL." - Tappytoon summary There are a lot of places to read ENNEAD, the Korean boy's love comic about gods in ancient Egypt, particularly Seth and Horus! But it can be a little confusing, so I'll put some of the big ones in a list, including how to read in English, Korean, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Taiwanese, and Thai (and here's a carrd version). If you're seeing this reblogged somewhere, check the original to see if there's been any updates, because I'll try to keep this up to date.

There are two versions of ENNEAD available most places it is available: an uncensored/mature/19+ version and a censored/16+/15+ version. The numbers refer to ages.

There is benefit to reading both! Mojito often modifies the censored scenes to show more of different scenes, and some of it explores character thoughts in ways you don't get in the mature version.

Episodes with version differences:

Season 1: Episodes 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 42, 43, 44

Season 2: Episodes 19, 45, 46, 47, 71

ENNEAD is currently two seasons long with an ongoing season 2, and a planned season 3. Mojito sporadically posts on twitter in Korean, sometimes sharing updates, writing/drawing commentary, and extras.

ENNEAD updates in Korean every 10 days, on the 9th, 19th, and 29th (barring holidays and hiatuses), and on the last day of February when it's updating in February, around 22:00 KST. It updates in English, French, and German every 10 days, on the 10th, 20th, and 30th (barring holidays and hiatuses), and on the last day of February when it's updating in February. When the English is updating near-simultaneously, it puts out its latest episode around 00:00 ET. The English translation is 8 episodes behind the Korean. The French and German are 8 episodes behind the Korean and are currently on hiatus, but will with S02E80 on 10 June 2024.

Korean Audio Drama

On 5 November 2023, ACO announced a Korean audio drama of season 1 (Episodes 1-73). It was available for purchase in physical and is now available to purchase digitally by episode. You need to make an account on either site to purchase it there, and the individual episode site seems to require ID verification before purchase. More information here.

Print Releases

ENNEAD season 1 is available in print in Korean and Taiwanese, which you can purchase through Harumio and Koonbooks (along with other merch). Apparently the physical editions are a little cheaper if you look for third party sellers. Mojito announced on March 18th, 2023, that season 2 would be getting a physical release after season 2 was fully released online, though Mojito didn't specify in what language.

Seven Seas began release of an English physical edition starting in November 2023. "Seven Seas [is releasing] two versions of the series, which were originally drawn for different audiences: a paperback version rated Older Teen, and a deluxe hardcover version rated Mature. (Each version is standalone but has alternate depictions of some adult material.)" We don't know how long this release will be, but season 1 in Korean is 6 volumes, and the English is at least 5. The English will seemingly use the Korean book covers, which also seemingly indicates a 6-volume release.

There are also ongoing physical releases in German, Italian, and Japanese.

English, French, German

Tappytoon is the only place to legally read ENNEAD in English online. There is currently no downloadable ebook copy in English. Tappytoon is available on browser and the app (for your phone and/or tablet). Tappytoon recently added the mature version to the app, but if you have any issues reading it, both are available and purchasable on the browser version, which you can read on your phone/tablet through your browser if you'd like. Any funds you add and any episodes you buy through the app will be there if you switch to browser. It also has a French translation and a German translation, both of which seem to be censored.

Each version, age-wise, is marked specifically: mature says "Mature" (twice), and has a red M, while the censored/16+ version is marked as 16+, and is missing the "Mature" markers.

Uncensored/mature version^^^ (Again, this should be available on the app now, but if you have any issues accessing it, it has been and still is fully accessible via a browser).

Censored/16+ version^^^

Obtaining episodes: The first three episodes are free to read and keep forever. The rest are paywalled, but there are two ways to read it free, legally, through Tappytoon:

Both versions of ENNEAD are part of Tappytoon's Time Till Free program, where you log in each day and read one episode for free. It means only one episode a day, but you don't have to do anything else. The newest 73 episodes must be purchased with points (the site currency), though. As of March 21st, 2024, this would mean you can get the entirety of season 1 for free, and 6 episodes of season 2.

If you download the app for Tappytoon (usable on phone or tablet), you can watch advertisements to earn points to buy episodes. It's around 30 ads for enough points to buy one episode. If you earn points this way, you can still use them for the mature version if you open it on browser (the points stay in your account), and the episodes will remain in your account even if you can't see the mature versions on the app.

3. You can just buy points. Most credit cards and PayPal should work.

4. Points do not expire, and Tappytoon does deals to get points for cheap every now and then.

Korean

ENNEAD is available in a number of places to legally read in the original Korean. The original Korean is ahead of the English translation currently by 8 episodes, so if you read the Korean, you will be ahead. If you're not using Chrome, I would recommend installing an extension on your browser that translates pages (Firefox has a number of them, just Google "Firefox translation extension"), which will make this part easier if you can't read Korean.

Witchcomics

Witchcomics carries both the censored and uncensored Korean version (uncensored has the red 19 symbol on the top right). It also has a phone app. You will need to verify your age with adult identification to access the uncensored version, and you can use international ID and payment methods for Witchcomics. Simply create an account and go to the customer care page, where they'll explain the process.

Witchcomics also typically provides a preview on their twitter a number of hours (usually no more than 24, sometimes under 10) before the new episode is released. And while Ridibooks uses the current series poster as a filler for episode "previews", Witchcomics puts a mini episode preview up for each episode on the buy/rent page itself (similar to Tappytoon).

Witchcomics is also the site that gives Mojito the biggest percentage of each episode's earnings, so if you're making a decision on where to best support Mojito, it's one of the better options, and Mojito has commented repeatedly she prefers people buy through Witchcomics.

Ridibooks

Ridibooks carries both the censored and uncensored Korean version. To find the uncensored version, type 엔네아드 in the search bar. The uncensored version has a 19 in a circle on the cover. There is also a version with a red cover, which is the complete season 1.

Ridibooks requires you to verify your age by submitting identification in order to read the uncensored/mature version. This guide is very helpful in signing up, getting 19+ access, and paying for episodes. Ridibooks accepts both international ID and international payments to access and read episodes for both the uncensored and censored versions of the story.

Naver

Naver carries both versions of the series in Korean. The uncensored version has the red 19 to the left of its name.

Kakao

Kakao carries both versions of the series in Korean. The censored version has a tiny gray 15 on the upper right corner, and the uncensored version has a 19 in the middle.

Bomtoon

Bomtoon carries both versions of the series in Korean. You need age verification to view the uncensored version, which requires submitting an adult ID to Bomtoon. The censored version is viewable without age verification.

Chinese

The simplified Chinese translation is available on bilibili, though it is censored. There is no uncensored Chinese translation. The Chinese translation is currently on hiatus.

German

Besides the Tappytoon online release, Panini Manga is releasing a physical version of the series. Volume 1 is out! Volume 2 will release on 21 May 2024.

Italian

Planet Manga, a division of Panini Comics, announced on June 6, 2023 that they would be releasing an official Italian translation of ENNEAD! Volume 1 released on 24 January 2024, and volume 2 released on 15 February 2024. Volume 3 released on 28 March 2024. Volume 4 will release on 16 May 2024.

Japanese

The uncensored ENNEAD has also been translated into Japanese and is available on b-boy, renta, CMOA, Mecha Comic, and Piccoma. A translation of the censored release will begin on 20 May 2024.

The physical release of the Japanese translation began on 24 April 2024; volumes 1-3 have been released, volume 4 will release 19 June 2024, volume 5 will release on 20 July 2024, and there is a listing for volume 6. There are various bonuses depending on where you order from.

Thai

wecomics carries the Thai translation. It seems to require a log-in ID to access.

Merch

At this point there have been a few non-book merch waves and collaborations (with Mofun, ACO, BNOW, Gratte, and Goodsbee), mostly available through proxies. This includes posters, cards, a cup, pins, keychains, popcaps, standees, and jewelry. Remember to check when comparing prices how much goods are priced + how much it will cost to ship to you. Seoul Comics doesn't sell any of its merch for some reason (e.g., the blanket, tarot cards, magnets, crystal ball, and incense burner), it's just given away rarely in lotteries.

Please support ENNEAD legally if at all possible. Manhwa artists have a habit of stopping translations or releases entirely when they learn about pirating, and Mojito has spoken out against pirating a number of times.

NATLA - Episode 2: Warriors (1/4)

Starting off with one of Zuko's tantrums was such a good choice. In the first couple episodes of the animated show, Zuko's frustrations at having lost the Avatar blow up all the time and it was great to see that represented - with the additional depth of him explaining exactly why he was so upset: the greatest warrior of all time was a 'coward' and ran. It gives the audience a great view of what Zuko values and how his expectations have been rocked, and therefore his world view being shifted. Iroh comes in to ease his discomfort and reassure him that it was Zuko's positive qualities that helped him find the Avatar and there is hope that he'll find him again. Hope is such an important theme in the whole series and I'm glad the live-action is focusing on it just as much for the 'villains' as they are for the 'heroes'.

For anyone still complaining about 'expositional dialogue', go back and watch S1E3 of the animated show, specifically (though really just rewatch the entire thing) and come back and tell me that wasn't waaayyy more egregious expositional dialogue than the live-action. Like I said in another post: expositional dialogue is NOT BAD, especially at the beginning of a fantasy story. We have to figure out the basics of the characters somehow and 'showing' isn't always possible or the best choice. Scrub the idea that 'telling instead of showing is bad writing' out of your mind, because it's almost guaranteed you're thinking of that advice so incredibly incorrectly that it's ruining your ability to consume media like a normal human being.

I like how Sokka and Katara are taking whether or not to leave their village for good seriously - especially Sokka, he was put in charge - it makes sense that he'd have to be convinced that abandoning his people is the best thing to do. In the first episode of the animated series, when Katara first discovers Aang is an airbender, she's ecstatic that she's finally found a teacher - and even makes to abandon her village in her desire to go find herself a master so she can learn more waterbending - we see that desire here at the beginning of the live-action episode 2 where she tells Sokka she can't just abandon this journey she's started - yes she wants to save the world, but she also wants to see where her waterbending journey can take her.

Also love the change that Gran Gran gave Katara the waterbending scroll - one that had been passed down in their tribe for generations before having to hide it from the fire nation. This hearkens to real-life examples of invaders trying to destroy the cultures of the indigenous population and them having to hide ancestral artefacts so they wouldn't get destroyed. While the pirates are a fun little side-quest and there's some excellent Zutara fodder there, I think it's a lot more impactful to have Katara learning waterbending from a cultural artefact right from her own family rather than a scroll stolen from who-knows-where. The pirates really only come back up to 'kill' Zuko at the end of the season, so that was easily folded into someone else having the blasting jelly.

Aang giving Gyatzo as good of a burial as he can was also a wonderful touch. This is all fresh for him - giving the Air Nomads he grew up with a respectful send off was the least he could do. It shows that Aang thinks about the little things, the small acts he can do to show respect and care for the world - just like the peaceful, nature loving monk we know from the animated series.

The real plot of the whole show isn't revealed in the animated version until we meet Bumi in episode 5 - I think it makes sense that, starting at the end of episode 1 of the live-action, we already get what the show is going to be about. It isn't until episode 7 of the animated series - when Aang sees the burned forest - that the idea of 'figuring out how to be the avatar' is mentioned and even after that, it's not until episode 8 where the comet time line is established and Aang even begins to think about learning to waterbend. But still, the goal of 'master the Avatar state and learn the four elements' is pretty vague and there are a lot of ways to accomplish that. Introducing the timely need to get to the Northern Water Tribe to help them with the fire nation attack gives the plot direction and purpose while still allowing for many events to happen along the way. The meandering quality of the first half of the animated season 1 is one of the most criticized parts of the OG series and the writers didn't even know what the story was going to be when they wrote those, so it makes sense that with the hindsight of the whole series in mind, the live-action would give it a bit more direction. Putting one time-sensitive task in front of Aang at a time also helps with the story structure, so I get why they first made the goal 'Northern Water Tribe', and only after they complete that timed goal will they introduce the comet.

It's great to see Iroh's love of food and interacting with the average people in every place they travel to is still a big part of his character. And Zuko sulking behind him telling him they don't have time for all this is just ripped right from the animated series. Dallas Liu and Paul Sun--Hyung Lee brought those aspects of the characters to life beautifully. Something I've seen is people upset that Zuko isn't as 'cool and calculating' as he is in the animated version and while I agree Zuko did have many of those moments, he was also rash and bullheaded too. I think the live-action really wanted to stay truer to the reality that these are kids - they're going to act more like kids than the animated counterparts did. Animated Zuko (and Azula for that matter) many times don't read as 14 and 16, respectively. They read as full-on 20-something year olds. The live-action is giving Zuko a bit farther to grow where it's Iroh being the strategist at the moment while Zuko is the driven child desperate to regain his honor. Also, just love all the complaints that the live action is so focused on telling not showing then complain that Zuko didn't say 'honor' once when…every single word out of Zuko's mouth and action he took SHOWED that he was fighting to regain honor. People need to pick a complaint and be serious about it.

Functionality

These mods are not technically in the build but are needed to have mods (syboulette's crossfit and aira's rice cooker specifically) functional.

Vehicles

Technically, the two vehicles used for this build use the the Breeze Motors 2018 Mercedes E-Class Wagon and the 2020 Maserati Quattroporte as their base. I won't link to the download page as its a perma-paywaller and I fundamentally disagree with how Breeze Motors is handling their patreon personally. I will leave it to you to decide if you want their CC and how you acquire it if you choose to do so.

For my personal game, I have edited and stripped down my copies of these two cars and modified them so that they work with Simnation Travel. I have a pinned patreon post that is not paywall locked here explaining that more in depth and include the required files HERE.

I should note that in addition to lacking the door open /close options of the original as those were stripped down, the textures were redone with simlish for a more maxis match look in game.

Mods for this Build

These are not technically required for the build to function but this build was built using overrides for both Sim Realist's SNB Bills mod as well as Simnation Travel vehicles. You shouldn't get any weird errors if you load the build in without those mods but if there's an exception caught by MCC related to that, it's probably just reconciling that the override the lot was built with is not in place in your game. It should only be a one time alert the first time the game loads in if it happens and should not cause any issue other than MCC making a noise at you about it noticing weirdness.

(The SNB provides the High Speed Internet trait to the lot and I think it will just set that trait to empty if its loaded without but I haven't personally confirmed it, hence the note here. ) Additional Note

I'm pushing this to live today just to make sure it hits my tumblr the same time as I pushed the build to my gallery but I will be going back to add links into the list. There are just a LOT to track down and it might take me a day or two to finish that part.
