Bad habits: I've picked at my skin since I was a baby, as I have ocd + dermatillomania. because of it i am littered with bumps, scars, and can't shave due to ingrown hairs or risking making a scrape and then scratching until im sent to the er weeks later with cellulitis. i also have problems focusing and have a dissociative disorder that makes me not myself. i have bad anxiety that i cope with well, but if i stay up late i can overthink myself into a sobbing fit for no reason.

My personality: my friends describe me as WEIRD. my mom says im an alien. i would say that the people i know and i all agree i am creative, artsy and kind of an old soul. im patient sometimes but also get overwhelmed by certain situations because im autistic and can't multitask. i love helping others and when spending time with friends i like to make them gifts or play outside with them and look for bones or cool plants, or roleplay warrior cats with my besties. i have "childish" interests but am mature and independent, and am a caretaker. i had a rough upbringing and as an adult i feel like i heal my inner child everyday by living as autistic as possible.

So I just learned about the lost media pilot of Very Important House (show made by Jhonen and pitched to Disney, but never made).

And I have a conspiracy theory involving it.

Frolie’s hoodie, skin and even eye colour…..

…Are near identical to that of another character made by Jhonen. Recap Kid.

They aren’t exactly the same, as Frolie and Recap Kid have completely different hair colours and even genders (and things like the skin and eye colour aren’t exactly the same), but Recap Kid can canonically shapeshift so that’s another thing to take into account. Recap Kid could have originally been Frolie, and changed how they looked through shapeshifting.

Another possibility: Invader Zim (and Very Important House) has a multiverse, so what if they’re counterparts of one another? Frolie is Recap Kid from another universe and vice versa.

There’s also one final possibility involving another entity connected to Recap Kid:

The Recap Brain. A giant brain that watches over the Invader Zim multiverse.

The Recap Brain is definitely connected to Recap Kid in some way, just look at the hoodie they wear and their name, and I’ve theorized/headcanoned that they’re actually the same species, it’s just that Recap Kid is a child and the Recap Brain is an adult, explaining the differences in appearance.

So Frolie may not be Recap Kid themselves, but they may be the same species. Another child form of a Recap Brain.

It could provide some explanation for why Frolie was chosen as a “Caretaker of The Universe”. They’re destined to eventually grow up into an entity that watches over the multiverse. Being a Caretaker is practice for something greater.

I get that none of this is intended or canon or fits into any of my headcanons on Recap Kid and Very Important House wasn’t even made, but it’s my conspiracy theory and I get to choose the details. I feel like the guy that made the 12+ YouTube videos theorizing over Mort from Madagascar.

Jack was seven years old when Maria died. Up until that point Teague had been rather distant and was often at sea for months on end. As such, Maria was more or less Jack’s sole caretaker. When she died that “caretaker” role fell onto Teague. Obviously, Jack was too young to be sailing around the sevens seas with his father. Instead of winding down his life, Teague took Jack to live with his mother, Anne, in Madagascar. 

Now, it’s important to note that Anne was (is?) a piece of work. She was a horrible mother and proved to be an equally horrible grandmother. Her treatment of Jack was just as abusive as her treatment of her own children. I don’t have a rational explanation for why Teague chose to take Jack to live with her. He has no illusions about her parenting. It was more of a grief-stricken moment and not knowing what else to do with Jack. He wasn’t willing to completely sacrifice his life as a pirate. So, yeah, Jack went to visit his dear ol’ grandmama and Teague basically fucked off for a year.

Then Bartholomew died.

Teague came back only to find Jack slightly worse for wear and completely miserable. With a slightly clearer head, he realized that leaving Jack with his mother was bad parenting (even by his supremely low standards). 

Shortly thereafter, Teague took up his position as keeper of the code. Doing so allowed him to split his time between land and sea. He still sailed out (Jack was eight at the time and already very knowledgeable about how ships worked) and Jack came with him, now as his cabin boy. But he was also more landbound than most pirates because he soon found that Shipwreck Cove needed a guiding hand-- technically this wasn’t in his job description but he accepted the task anyway.

tldr; Teague became keeper because it was the best compromise he could find. This way the risk to Jack was minimized but Teague could still return to the sea.

Zoos, to support or not support? (Unit 05)

            Growing up, I loved going to the Toronto Zoo with my family. As a child, I saw it as a fun and innocent experience that was also educational. Obviously, at that age, I was unaware of the ethical concerns regarding zoos, and the constant debate on whether they should be allowed or not. As I got older, I began to understand the ethical implications of keeping wild animals in captivity, regardless of if it is for educational purposes or not.

            So, I began to raise the question to myself, would ever go back to a zoo again? Now, I am aware that zookeepers and the staff that maintain the zoos, for the most part, care for the animals immensely. But, I still question whether this justifiable enough to support the continuation of zoos as a business. After all, these animals were never meant to be stuck in captivity for the rest of their lives.

            However, on the other hand, I understand the curiosity of the human nature. As a kid, I loved watching Zoboomafoo, and I was so excited to see a lemur in person. I guess you can say its scientific curiosity in its earliest forms. That’s the great thing about zoos, you don’t have to fly all the way to an animal’s native habitat to see them and study them. We have talked about barriers to learning and education in this course, with financial barriers being a big one, not everyone can fly to Madagascar to go see a lemur. 

            When I am speaking about zoos, the main picture that appears in my head is that of lions, frogs, otters, polar bears, and other terrestrial organisms. However, one thing I can adamantly say I am 100% against is keeping large aquatic mammals in captivity. Simply put, there is no realistic way to accommodate animals such as orcas in captivity, in a way that is human. Their territory is simply too wide. I saw a video recently about the last remaining orca at marineland in Niagara, and it is simply heartbreaking to witness. Again, I’m sure the caretakers of marine animals care deeply about what they do, but I find it hard to get behind.

            So, to wrap it all up, is there benefits of creating zoos? For sure, it makes science more accessible to the masses, and creates interest for kids, who otherwise may not have found any interest in science. But, there are certainly moral and ethical dilemmas behind every corner when it comes to supporting these organizations.
