"Senator Joe Manchin just indicated he would not blow up the filibuster to codify Roe, saying he believes the filibuster is a check on power that preserves abortion rights. Without Manchin, the chance of passing Roe into law is pretty much zero."

Ben Sargent's newest Loon Star State cartoon, from the September / October issue of our magazine: [Texas Observer]
* * * *
This past Monday, Associate Justice Elena Kagan said of the Supreme Court’s current reputation in the wake of the most recent term:
“The very worst moments [in the court’s history] have been times when judges have even essentially reflected one party’s or one ideology’s set of views in their legal decisions. The thing that builds up reservoirs of public confidence is the court acting like a court and not acting like an extension of the political process. Judges create legitimacy problems for themselves when they don’t act like courts, when they instead stray into places that looks like they are an extension of the political process or where they are imposing their own personal preferences. If, over time, the court loses all connection with the public and with public sentiment, that is a dangerous thing for democracy.”
On Tuesday, Samuel Alito, author of the Dobbs decision overturning Roe v Wade, retorted, telling the Wall Street Journal that, “It goes without saying that everyone is free to express disagreement with our decisions and to criticize our reasoning as they see fit. But saying or implying that the court is becoming an illegitimate institution or questioning our integrity crosses an important line.”
It is rare for a justice to issue such a statement when asked for comment about an ongoing controversy, but the justices on the court now are unlike those who have been there before, with three that would never have been there had it not been for The Federalist Society, Mitch McConnell and the willingness of Donald Trump to go along with anything that “sticks it” to the people who refuse to recognize him for the “stable genius” he truly is.
A new Monmouth University poll finds that nearly 60% of Americans think the Supreme Court is out of touch, and two-thirds (66%) of the public would support creating term limits for Supreme Court justices. This includes clear majorities of Democrats (86%) and independents (63%) and just over half of Republicans (51%).
I’ve never felt toward the court the way I do now, not even with the conservative makeup of the court as it was prior to 2016.
But now...
Hey, Sammy boy, why don’t you go FUCK OFF? And when you’re done, go over there and FUCK OFF. And when you’re done, go over there and FUCK OFF. And then come over here and FUCK OFF. And keep FUCKING OFF, you fucking fuckwitted fucker.
And if you thought last term was bad, this one that started today has the potential to make that one look like the proverbial Sunday morning walk in the park.

Wtaf is going on in America? I swear it’s gone back like 50 years over there with Roe v Wade being overturned. Apparently they’re coming for interracial marriage, same sex marriage, voting rights & a lot more. It’s actually disgusting.
Because even though we got rid of Donald Trump, (for now, anyway. Technically, he can run again in 2024. There's no law that says he can't, and I'd bet my life it's what he's going to do.) the fact is, the damage was done.
I'm not just talking about how many people we lost in 2020, how much Covid was able to spread thanks to his neglect - though that is easily one of the worst examples. No, I'm talking about the influence. It all comes down to his slogan, "Make America great again." That tells you the whole story. Yes, anon, it is like we're going back in time fifty years, because that's exactly what the MAGAs want. They want the "good old days" when women "knew their place." and thanks to the Trump presidency, these bigots have more openly merged with the Republican Party. The fact is, America was never "great" and Trump was never trying to make it "great again." America was a work in progress. Slow progress perhaps, but not as swift as it ought to have been, but it was headed in the right direction. At least we weren't slaughtering the Native Americans anymore. At least we weren't enslaving Black people anymore. At least women were approaching something resembling equal rights, even if it was in baby steps. Again, a work in progress.
But then...Trump happened.
Trump. an unrepentant racist, misogynist, fact-denier...basically every horrible quality you can imagine in a person, he has them all. It would almost seem unrealistic. Like he was some sort of cartoon character. But he is very real, and any stories you might have heard about him...the genuine article is worse, a million times worse. In 2016, he talked his way into the White House...even though Clinton won the Popular Vote. The same thing happened to Al Gore back in the year 2000, which was how we got Bush and Iraq. See, in the United States, getting the most votes doesn't guarantee you the election, as ludicrous as it sounds. You have to win particular states, who, despite having fewer people, get more weight in the election. If you're wondering why, it's a system that was devised to compensate for the existence of slavery, and all of the slaves who were part of the population at the time but, obviously, were not voting. Which has led many people such as myself to recoil in disgust and point out how archaic and pointless that is now, but The Electoral College is still here. There are probably professionals who can explain this system better than me, but long story short, this is how we got Trump. Well, that, and it's also very likely that Russia had something to do with it, as it was confirmed that they interfered with the 2016 election, and we all know who Putin wanted to win.
Once Trump was in office, one of his new powers was that he was the only one who could nominate new members of The Supreme Court. Which is, as the name suggests, the highest level of Court we have. It stands on part with the Legislative (Congress) and Executive (The President) branches of government. Frankly, I've long held the opinion that the Supreme Court is the most powerful entity in this country, full stop. It's supposed to balance with Congress and the President, but assuming a case is brought to them, they can make any decision they want regarding it, and no one else gets a say. They can declare anything constitutional, or unconstitutional. And a Supreme Court Judge sits the job for life, by the way. There is no limit to how many "terms" they can stay. So they remain until they choose to retire (and considering how honored and prestigious the position is, many do not) or they die. This is why we took the loss of RBG so hard. The reason this is happening right now, is because Trump managed to fill three of the eight Supreme Court seats during his time in the White House. (One of which was Obama's to fill, by the way, but don't get me started on Mitch McConnell, we'll be here all day.)
To be clear, it's not as simple as saying that Trump is evil, and corrupted our country. No, it takes a village. In fact, thanks to his incompetence, Trump was almost a figurehead in a number of ways. A public figure who the bigots could rally behind. What it comes down to is that Trump's his has normalized many different types of bigotry, as well as a general denial of facts. Misogynists, homophobes, racists, they all feel comfortable coming out of the shadows now. When neo Nazis marched in Charlottesville, Trump said there were "fine people on both sides." During the 2020 Presidental debates, he refused to condemn the Proud Boys, and told them to "stand back and stand by." His presidency has caused all of these horrible people to come out of hiding - culminating in January 6th, when they were told that Trump would not be re-elected, and they tried to metamorphically throw the gameboard off the table. It's also given them the ammo they need to justify their existence - that being...nothing. This goes back to the whole "alternative facts" nonsense. Trump, and the Republican Party in general, no longer seem to feel the need to defend their decisions logically. They'll approve Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court at the eleventh hour, even though they played keep-away with a seat that rightfully should have gone to Merrick Garland, and that's just one example.
And my party, the Democrats, don't really know how to stop them, because facts don't work anymore. Pointing out the obvious, like how evil some of these stances are...that doesn't work anymore. They've hijacked the system, which was broken to begin with...and now they're breaking it down even more, to control the game. I guess you could say that the elected members of the Democratic Party are failing to win over the people, and I'm sure that's a part of it. But a not insignificant number of people simply are not voting, so that's a problem. The Republicans are also cheating. I realize that may sound kind of "whiny kid on the playground" but they are, in fact, cheating, and getting away with it. I recommend looking up the process of "gerrymandering" and seeing for yourself how they're rigging the elections. So the whole thing feels like we're helpless, but...there is one thing that Biden could do. He could stack the Court. Technically, there's no rule that says the Supreme Court has to be eight judges. He could choose to add more to level it out. I suspect he's hesitant to do this as it could backfire down the road, if and I understand that level of caution...but I'm still one of the people who thinks he should do it.

ok i am not done talking about starred wars yet. one thing i hated was how the rise of skywalker had like 80% of the plot centered around finding an evil planet of Bad Guys and they get there and just to make sure everyone in the audience is 100% clear that theyre bad guys its all super dark and rocky and theyre communing in this dark foggy cave and its just palpatine in his giant baby arm hanging from the ceiling surrounded by like 500 people in black hooded Evil Guy cloaks that are supposed to be sith and apparently they have their own language and stuff and they all stand around menacingly to make sure you dont forget theyre the bad guys and its wild to me because 1. oh my god they made it SO gratuitously evil like a cartoon and 2. like, the planet and language implies that the sith aren't just people who have gone to the dark side like i assumed they were? like it implies the sith are like, a people with customs and history and a place where they live who are genetically hardwired to be evil little guys, which is super fucking funny in hindsight unless this planet is meant to be like, a colonized outpost of the sith that was just empty before they came there and the language is weird esoteric cult knowledge or something and they ARE people who are evil who used to be normal, which is possible. but then regardless of that, like....why? isnt palpatine just a corrupt force-sensitive politician on a power trip? like if they had an esoteric map and spent 80% of the movie trying to find resurrected mitch mcconnel hanging from a cave ceiling. like if i was rey i would laugh you know

We Need to Reform the American Political Fabric: A Case Study of AIPAC’s Influence on Congress
Tumblr media
Lobbying plays a significant role in how laws and policies are created — however, many Americans may not be familiar with the extent to which it is so powerful. The practice of lobbying could be utilized for beneficial purposes, such as making healthcare more accessible, but it can also be employed harmfully, as seen when companies lobby to obstruct legislation enabling cheaper drugs. Lobbying occurs when people or organizations attempt to convince lawmakers to make decisions that align with their ideologies, interests, and beliefs. Oftentimes, this practice of lobbying is fueled by money, through which organizations finance politicians, effectively acting as puppets for special interests. Campaign finance reform is necessary to tackle the unequal influence of money in lobbying, which gives wealthy interests more power over policymaking than regular citizens. Through the implementation of measures such as limiting political donations and increasing transparency, we can create a fairer political system that represents the interests of all citizens.
Why is the dominance of wealth and corporate interest so ingrained in the fabric of America’s political infrastructure? The 2010 Supreme Court ruling in Citizens United v. FEC can be cited as one of the contributors to this very phenomenon. The ruling essentially equated corporate spending with free speech, which set a precedent that would drastically alter the shape of American politics to this day. According to the American organization Campaign Legal Center assessing the Supreme Court ruling, “One way this has occurred is through [the] creation of super PACs, which can accept unlimited contributions from nearly any non-foreign source and spend unlimited amounts to influence the outcome of federal elections.” The unchecked influence of money has not only perpetuated inequality but also enabled politicians to not be accountable to their constituents. Furthermore, this practice of lobbying, rooted in power and wealth, has weakened the integrity of our electoral system because it allows politicians to feel detached from the needs of their constituents.
American politicians across both parties are equally complicit in facilitating the dominance of wealth and corporate interests in the political landscape. For instance, take Nancy Pelosi, the 52nd Speaker of the House of Representatives, infamous for her role in soliciting donations from corporate PACs. Although Speaker Pelosi herself has advocated for campaign financing reform and criticized the influence of money in politics, she has done exactly that. In 2022, Pelosi hosted the largest individual fundraiser in DCCC (Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee) history, amassing over $4.4 million in donations.  Speaker Pelosi, in addition to many elected American politicians, are beneficiaries of the powerful lobbying group known as AIPAC. The Washington D.C. based group known as the American Israel Public Affairs Committee advocates on behalf of the interests of Israel. According to a data report from Open Secrets, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing data on campaign financing revealed insights into political donations. The report revealed the top pro-Israel beneficiaries among politicians from 1990 to 2024. President Biden was the recipient of more than $5,000,000, Mitch McConnell's contributions totaled $1,953,610, and Marco Rubio received support exceeding $1,000,000.
The report shares insight into how foreign lobbying groups such as AIPAC pose a significant challenge to the sovereignty and stability of the American political system. Moreover, the leveraging of wealth and influence by these groups seeks to shape domestic policies and decisions in a manner that primarily serves the interests of their country at the expense of American sovereignty. This intrusion into the American political landscape raises concerns about whose interests are being prioritized and whose voices are being heard in the policymaking process. Additionally, it undermines the fundamental principles of democratic governance, where decisions should be made by elected officials accountable to their constituents rather than influenced by foreign entities. However, it does not stop there. As of 2022, AIPAC has reportedly begun targeting American politicians critical of the Israeli government, which is incredibly concerning for America’s democracy.
According to reporter Betsy Reed, who wrote a piece titled “Pro-Israel groups target US lawmakers critical of Israel’s war ahead of primaries” late last year, reveals the severity of this situation. As Reed states, “During the last 10 days, groups that support Israel have launched ads in at least seven districts targeting those who have been particularly vocal in calling attention to the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, opposing Israeli military aid or criticizing Israel’s government.” Furthermore, when looking at the actions of pro-Israeli groups such as AIPAC targeting American politicians, it is imperative to consider the ethical implications of their actions. Ethically, what does it say about the United States when a powerful foreign interest group can exert such influence over elected officials? Additionally, this insight emphasizes the urgency of safeguarding against undue foreign influence on democratic processes. The piece also goes on to state, “Aipac’s Super Pac, United Democracy Project, has spent nearly $90,000 on radio and television ads attacking Massie in his district in recent weeks.” Ultimately, these findings underscore the vital importance of limiting the power and influence of foreign lobbying groups, which would require a radical change within domestic policymaking. However, it would also present an incredible challenge to do so, considering the number of influential politicians who benefit from AIPAC’s money.
Along with that, in the wake of the current humanitarian crisis and military intensification in Gaza, many Americans are expressing deep concern about their elected official's loyalty to AIPAC and Israel. According to a recent Axios report revealing US citizens' attitudes toward Israel, “Among U.S. adults polled in January, 50% said they believed that Israel's actions in Gaza had "gone too far," compared to 40% who said the same in November, the poll found. The report also revealed that Biden’s handling of the current political crisis has lowered his approval ratings. Moreover, the subject of Gaza reveals the shift in American public opinion regarding Palestine’s plight. However, the shift in the public is not reflected in its elected officials, many of whom continue to stand in solidarity with Israel despite the overwhelming evidence of injustices in Gaza. Despite the numerous protests involving hundreds of Americans across the country, the millions of petition signatures, and various civil efforts, there has been a minimal impact on the legislature. As AIPAC continues to fund politicians, Israel will continue to receive billions of dollars in military aid used to commit humanitarian acts on Palestinian civilians.
Moreover, the influence of lobbying extends the halls of Congress—shaping not only legislation but foreign policy decisions. In the case of AIPAC, its impact on American foreign policy is particularly evident. Over the decades, AIPAC has successfully advocated for significant levels of military aid to Israel. According to the Council on Foreign Relations, Israel is the leading recipient of foreign and military aid. AIPAC’s influence has not only exacerbated the Israeli-Palestinian conflict but raised questions about the extent to which foreign policy decisions are driven by domestic lobbying interests. It is also paradoxical that the United States provides substantial funding for Israel’s healthcare system that ensures universal access while lacking comparable provisions domestically. Why are American tax dollars being utilized to support healthcare in another country while domestic healthcare remains inadequately funded? Essentially, addressing the influence of groups like AIPAC requires not only reforms of stricter regulations but also a confrontation of America’s political structure.
Amidst the ongoing issues with lobbying and foreign influence through Israel in American politics, it is crucial to explore and think about reforming the American political structure. One solution could be to enforce stricter regulations on campaign finance and lobbying activities to curb the undue influence of special interest groups such as AIPAC. The imposition of tighter restrictions on political donations and improving transparency requirements allows politicians to foster public confidence. In order to provide a more fair playing field and reduce the impact of powerful lobbyists and funders, public funding of elections is a more promising solution. Political analyst Lee Drutman’s essay entitled “A Better Way to Fix Lobbying” proposes JAMES, a system aiming to enhance transparency and public engagement in the legislative process. The system essentially serves as a platform for lobbyists, constituents, and policymakers to access comprehensive information, including detailed information and data. Alongside stricter regulations of lobbying groups such as AIPAC, the enhancement of transparency will encourage greater political engagement and participation. Ultimately, it is on behalf of the American people to demand an improved political system not tainted by lobbyists to fulfill the interests of its citizens.

Sunday Funnies, If You're Not Offended...
Tumblr media
Ho! Ho! Ho! And a Very Merry Christmas to All. And Welcome back to this week’s Christmas edition of the Sunday Funnies where we’d like to remind all the ‘Global Warming’ Kooks out there how everyone – even in Florida – is freezing their collective butts off today.     But that’s a good reason to stay indoors and hopefully sharing/making special memories with family and friends in celebrating the birth of Jesus…which is what Christmas is all about. READ:  Saturday Rant…Christmas and Jesus Ironically (or NOT) some people get upset when we mention Jesus. But it’s been that way for over 2,000 years. And despite this being a joyful time of the year, we find there are plenty of Grinch’s out there who would like you to believe otherwise. And we’ll take a few pokes at them in today’s funnies. So, let’s start with the Zionist punk – and disgraceful politicians – who openly desecrated our nation this week by waving a foreign nations flag in our Congress while simultaneously pandering to a comedian who continues to beg for more war during the Christmas season.       And keeping with the Christmas theme the Ukrainian midget/comedian made his true feelings known to our ever-compliant money-laundering resident Brandon. Hmmmm! This is the kind of stuff that makes you wonder what other war criminals Congress will ask to give speeches. But not to be outdone by corrupt politicians, the Grinch of Wokesters has decided that famous Christmas symbols of the past are the new symbols of White Supremacy.       But despite all the corrupt politics, war mongering, and assaults on what we hold to be dear in our hearts, seeing the goodness of Christmas rules over those who would dare to stand against it. “Strange, isn’t it?  Each man’s life touches so many other lives. When he isn’t around, he leaves an awful hole, doesn’t he?” Clarence, George Bailey’s Guardian Angel ~ “It’s a Wonderful Life” You make a difference! And that’s exactly why we publish the Sunday Funnies. You see, we use our funnies/memes/cartoons in an effort to counter the madness and frustration that accompanies Turbulent Times…ESPECIALLY DURING CHRISTMAS! Because when it’s all said and done, we all need to laugh every now and then. Why? Laughter is good for your soul. And it’s healthy to be a bit silly…especially in the face of fear mongering, medical tyranny, and especially the threat of WWIII. It’s all the more reason why we won’t apologize…especially if our Funnies just happen to hurt some Progressive/Socialist/Communist/Globalist’s feeeellwwings. And please remember: The Sunday Funnies are not just about our nations bizarre state of politics/finance/beliefs. It’s about awareness of what’s happening in the world that we choose to poke fun at. And, if our funnies/memes/cartoons/etc. provide you with a laugh or two – and/or open your eyes to some stark realities – then we consider that a victory. So, when things tend to get a bit overwhelming, we believe it’s best to remember that Humor is Waaaayyyyy better than Hatred…which is contrary to what the world wants you to believe. And we hope you see the Sunday Funnies as a refreshing oasis in the middle of a parched, dry, and increasingly dark world that we’re living in. As always, we remind you: As difficult as things might appear, Evil Always Overplays its Hand…And Righteousness Prevails. Fox Host Blames ‘My Pillowization’ Of Republicans That Led To Cartoon Character Candidates
Fox News is not holding back their anger over the poor showing of Republicans in the midterms, and one host went as far as to blame Mike Lindell and, as he put it, the "My Pillowization" of the Republican Party that led to cartoon characters being on the ballot. He's not wrong, as fringe figures like Lindell have become stalwarts of today's GOP.

Fox News, of course, is still trying to make sense of what happened to the Republican Party in last week's midterm elections. But later in the week, once more results started coming in that were even worse for Republicans than election night, one individual on Fox News decided to take the time to point out to the other hosts on that set exactly what happened to the Republican Party. And I have to say, his analysis is absolutely spot on. So take a look at this analysis of what has gone wrong with the Republican Party. And by the way, who is really to blame? Here it is
In the air. Republicans continue to make gains in the House, hopes of a red wave never reached the shoreline. The Senate also a toss-up as some critics blame poor candidates and they blame a former president, uh, Doug High, former NC Coms director Carly Cooperman, Democratic Pollster, and CEO of Shown Cooperman Research. Nice to see you both and great to have you. Uh, Doug, first to you, Carl Rove writes today, Wall Street Journal, a number of pieces of the journal editorial pace, talking about, uh, Donald Trump talking about the results. Here's Rob's take with no red wave. Trump is out at sea. The g o p fielded too many novices who struggled with crafting a message raising funds and waging effective campaigns. Some were also knuckleheads with strange beliefs and closets full of problems. Many of these remarkably weak candidates came courtesy of Donald Trump who did not vet his endorsements. Do you agree with that point?
Uh, yes. And you know, we could go back to 2010 and 2012 where we saw a lot of these terrible first-time candidates that caused Senate races to fall by the wayside in Nevada, uh, Delaware, Indiana, Missouri. Uh, and this is why Mitch McConnell was warning well in advance that we have a candidate quality problem. But what we've seen is a real intensification of this problem from top to bottom. Not just Senate candidates, but house candidates, Secretary of State candidates and governors and the like. And it's what, you know, what I call the MyPillow of the Republican Party, is we've attracted these more cartoon characters. And if somebody speaking at a rally with a president or a presidential candidate is best known as a pillow salesman, run to high heaven because you're going to see more of these cartoon characters who are trying to make money off of the party, become Instagram influencers and celebrities more than they are about being serious legislators. There's a reason Madison Callthorne lost his primary in North Carolina. He telegraphed and said, Clearly, I'm not serious.
The MyPillow of the Republican Party. And then of course, he proceeds to say like Mike Lindell is kind of the ringleader of this freak show that has given us these cartoon character candidates on the right. And again, he's not wrong. Now, I think it is unfair to, uh, probably a little, you know, too much to blame Mike Linde for everything that's wrong with the Republican Party today. But he of course, much like Trump himself, is just the natural evolution of the Republican Party. It's an evolution that was taking place long before Donald Trump. Of course, Trump put it on steroids accelerated that D evolution really is what it is. And now we end up with freaks like Mike Linde, who are not only loud voices in the Republican party, but they're looked upon as leaders of the Republican party. Mike Lindell gets invited to all the big events.
