Watched episode one of SNW, in love with everyone. Two thoughts only: If I was about to have sex with my hot Vulcan wife and my boss called me to go into work I’d simply quit. If I was running for my life after being abducted by aliens and Uhura said “Hi~!” to me I’d also completely forget about any danger and talk to her about whatever she wanted.

I don't remember who on tumblr said that Amanda ships Spirk and Sarek ships Spones but it is HILARIOUS because, like
The way Sarek and Amanda meet Kirk and Bones in "Journey to Babel" is deeply chaotic and basically shows off the weirdest possible angles of their relationships with Spock.
Like Kirk's running around and getting into fights, gets stabbed, fakes that he's ok so Spock can give Sarek his blood, solves the mystery and immediately collapses.
Meanwhile Bones is trying very hard to emphasis how out of his depth he is, gets peer pressured into using an experimental medicine and doing a surgery he isn't sure of, does everything great despite being thrown around cause they're being shot at, and yells at everyone to stay in bed afterward.
This is literally the only time Bones looks like the most stable person in this relationship and yet I could totally see Sarek being like "yeah, this human seems logical" while Amanda's like "no, the guy who fakes being ok so Spock can do what he wants to anyways is better"

You knew Spock had feelings, all Vulcans did, they just didn't show them in a way humans, or most species, were used to, preferring to be guided by logic.
Your problem was that you didn't know whether Spock had feelings for you.
And you had no idea how to figure it out, without potentially making a fool of yourself. He didn't exactly wear his heart on his sleeve.
You were both working late, studying the artefact retrieved from the last away mission, and you couldn't stop watching him as he worked next to you at the table.
It took you a minute to realise you were even doing it, too tired and too distracted, until Spock turned to you, feeling your eyes on him.
"Are you alright?" He asked, causing you to sit up straight suddenly, feeling your cheeks heat up.
"Me? Er yeah, fine, just a little tired," you tried, mentally kicking yourself for how unconvincing you sounded.
"The tone of your voice indicates that you are no being entirely honest," Spock devised, placing the scanner he had in his hand down to give you his full attention, "if something is bothering you, you can tell me."
You hadn't anticipated doing this here and now, but you could tell that Spock was not going to let it go until you were honest with him.
"I've just, been thinking," you began, not really sure how to phrase this.
Spock raised one eyebrow, "thinking? About what?" He turned on his chair so his whole body was facing towards you.
"Vulcans and their... feelings," god, you were failing at this miserably.
"Our emotions?" He asked slowly and you nodded, "why the sudden curiosity?
"Forget I said anything," you replied quickly, feeling your cheeks heating up as you walked away.
"I can see from your embarassed reaction that I might have something wrong," Spock tried to deduce, angling his head slightly as he watched you.
"No, you haven't Spock, I mean it isn't-" you blabbed hopelessly, seeing no way out of the ginormous hole you dug for yourself.
Spock studied you for a moment, and then when you felt like you couldn't take his eyes burning into you any longer, what appeared to be a look of realisation passed over his face.
"Ah," he said, "I believe I know what this is about."
"You- you do?" You blinked, unsure of where this was going. You'd known Spock a long time, and the last thing you wanted to do was ruin your friendship.
"Yes," Spock said matter-of-factly, but then said nothing further for a long stretch of a moment.
"... and?" You prompted, not wanting to be the one to fill in the blanks in case you were wrong.
"And you are wondering if I have feelings for you," he told you, watching as you took a sharp inhale of breath. His statement had given nothing away.
"Spock-" you began, hoping to explain yourself in a way that would salvage his conversation.
"I do," he cut you off, and you felt the tension that had been building disipate instantly.
"You do?? You doublechecked, voice quieter than you'd intended.
"Yes, I believed that was obvious," he informed you, "we have been spending a lot of timetogether, working yes, but also eating together and spending time alone together for the sake of enjoying each other's company."
That was true, and it was when you'd developed feelings for him too, learning about each other, opening up to each other, finding out what you had in common...
He noticed your confused pause, and continued, "I can see now that this was not as obvious as I had previously thought, I apologise, on Vulcan-"
"No, it's okay Spock," you smiled, feeling a little silly, "I thought maybe, you know, that you did, but I didn't want to think I was reading into things the wrong way."
"I assure you, you were not," Spock promised, putting a hand on yours. You squeezed his hand, very much relieved
"Might I also assume," he added after a pause, "that this means you have feelings for me also?"
"Huh?" It took you a second to realise what he was asking, before you laugh, "oh, yes, yes I do."
"Good," he nodded, the corners of his lips twitching into what you would consider a smile for him, "because that would have made this rather awkward if not."
Before you could ask what this he was referring to, he leaned in and kissed you.

I'm seeing a lot more "McCoy is racist [against Vulcans]" crossing my dash which... is sure an opinion.
A shit one, for sure.
Especially when Disco & SNW have leaned pretty hard into that "humans are lesser because ew emotional cooties" nugget (hm, what's a word for that), without the softness they've shown in previous iterations. When a Vulcan Fleet admiral shows zero empathy for a literal refugee, and y'know, actually seems to delight in targeting Una for being an Illyrian.
Especially when Amanda Grayson herself acknowledges to her own son how hard it's been for her as a human, living in Vulcan society. When Michael dealt with her own shit as an adoptee. When Spock is shown to bridle against this society who's fucked him up for being different.
When the argument hinges on treating Spock like he's a fragile baby boy somehow at the mercy of this supposed racist af human doctor, when the reality is he's a senior officer who sure spends some time being obviously hostile to a subordinate, sometimes without cause, but always with that rank behind him while he implies or outright states how unskilled he believes the CMO of the fucking fleet flagship is. In front of other officers too, just for some fun undermining action? Yep!
I love Spock, I think he's fucking amazing and I love how much depth we're getting, but ffs denying that in TOS he has both the power in this dynamic, and that he's from a planet of equal power to Earth's in the Federation (sorry fans who also think Vulcan is some backwater world that Earth somehow subjugates) which is shown to have really mercilessly racist opinions of humans all the way up to the highest echelons, is just...
Denial.
Like do y'all realize how much The Galileo Seven in a post-SNW context makes Spock actually look pretty dang cruel and monstrous?
McCoy is obviously a complex character with an attitude, who has no qualms in clapping back to authority himself and obviously has an issue with Spock, solo. He's also a man shown to be pretty damn respectful of Vulcans as a whole, and in cases where he isn't, it's because he thinks the cultural aspect he's critiquing is harmful and shitty.
Which I wish the parts of fandom taking an issue with that a big sarcastic Welcome to Dr McCoy, because that's a huge part of his characterization. He does that to everyone. He's the goddamn emotional heart of the Triumvirate, and he reacts emotionally to horrible shit. He and Spock are stellar foils for that.
This got away from me and I could add so much more (who did Spock ask to be there for his nuptials? who did he entrust with his Katra?) lmfao but just, in closing...
Vulcan cultural norms ought to be critiqued if they're relying on acting like weirdo supremacists because they don't grossly emote like nasty humans.
For fuck's sake. 🙄

My silly insomnia-invoked, pre-slash Spones story idea that I'll never do cause fanfic writing and me are divorced, but I'm gonna blab anyways cause I can.
I'm imagining something kind of like Who Mourns For Adonis, where the landing party of Jim, McCoy, and some other guys are stuck somewhere with some God-like entity who fancies the one girl. Except we make it McCoy who gets courted, and Jim makes him go along with it to try and get them out of their situation (eventual they find out that McCoy leaving isn't included int hat and Jim doesn't take it well and McCoy is annoyed that Jim talked him into this damn mess, but that’s irrelevant ). The twist? Spock got handed the conn and is thus stuck on the ship and unable to transport down cause Alien Gods or whatever. But he gets told by Kirk about the development...
And he is pissed.
So while McCoy is having to do what Jim normally does and hating it and until they can figure out how to save the landing party, Spock is just... forced to wait it out on the ship. He is absolutely not freaking out internally about how the doctor that he does not have feelings for because he is an unfeeling Vulcan not only being courted by someone else, but that he can't do shit about it. He tries to act in control... but everyone on the Bridge can tell that he's about a second away from breaking off the arms of the Captain's Chair on accident, he's so tense. Uhura is especially annoyed since he keeps asking her to call Kirk or if any of the landing party has called in every 2.5 minutes and it’s driving her nuts.
Eventually the landing party manage to escape, get beamed back up, and go on their merry way. McCoy is there safe and not stuck with God-like aliens. Spock is relieved, and the Bridge crew are nice enough to agree with him when he tells the Captain that there were no issues. He might stare into the back of his head for a day or two after finding out that McCoy playing along was his idea. And because McCoy is a total shit who is turned on by Spock totally not being jealous, can't help but tease about how it wasn't so bad getting that kind of attention.
Next Away Mission that McCoy gets dragged to, Spock makes sure that he gets to go as well. He practically sticks to McCoy like glue, much to McCoy's exasperation. Can't let the doctor's emotionalism get him into trouble now, right? XD

these hc are so cute ! maybe what halloween costume the Li would wear individually and in a couples costume 💓💓💓
HI YES YES YES I LOVE THIS QUESTION
I'm so excited!! ok, ok, without any further ado:
what the season 2 lis would wear for halloween (individually and in a couple)
bobby.
individually: look me in the eye right now and tell me he wouldn't dress up as spider-man. especially now with the spider-verse movies.
couple: he's a silly guy so I'm thinking he could wear literally anything after a little convincing, but ultimately, I'm saying:
beast boy & raven or robin & starfire (teen titans)
scott pilgrim and ramona flowers (scott pilgrim vs the world)
shark boy and lava girl
this has gotten way too long!! pls check out more under the cut 👇
gary.
individually: most likely a star war reference. or something funny. definitely something tight
couple: again, another silly guy who would wear anything you ask him, but here are my picks:
han solo and princess leia (and he absolutely loves it)
bowser and peach, not mario tho because that's too basic
bob and helen parr (the incredibles)
ibrahim.
individually: violet man. ok, let's say violet man isn't a real thing (like, well, it isn't). he's DEFINITELY dressing as another superhero. my guess? either superman or batman.
couple: he's gonna rock the best geek couple costumes ever and he'll show off. together, you guys will either serve cunt or die trying. here are some ideas:
batman and catwoman (the batman)
wanda maximoff and vision (wandavison)
jean gray and scott summers (the x-men)
noah.
individually: he would probably wear something that's more halloween than costume party, if you get what i mean? he prolly loves the holiday 'cause of his siblings and REALLY commits to the bit. fred krueger, jason, chuck, ghost face...
couple: like I said, he commits to the bit and goes all the way but he's sticking to the horror pattern because that's how it should go. some ideas include:
emily and victor (corpse bride)
other mother and other father (coraline)
beetlejuice and lydia (yes, the red wedding dress)
lucas.
individually: something sexy but that he doesn't need to put much effort in, like a vampire or something. i can't see him going all out for halloween, i'm sorry 😭
couple: now, when in a couple, it's a tad different... he's making sure you look good together and when i say good, i mean GOOD. you guys would probably be the hottest couple at any halloween party, here are some ideas:
gomez and morticia addams (let's put that stache to use, shall we?)
mr and mrs smith
tony montana and elvira hancock (scarface)
henrik.
individually: TARZAN. and he loves wearing nothing but a thong the whole night.
couple: I bet on something fun and easy, but also cute! he just wanna have fun with you and party for a bit, so I don't think he would propose something super complex. some ideas:
johnny and mavis (hotel transylvania)
daphne and fred (scooby-doo)
lola and bugs bunny (space jam)
kassam.
individually: I'm thinking classic and boring. doesn't care much when he's on his own. classic halloween stuff.
couple: HEAR ME OUT — iconic moments from pop culture. what do I mean by that? well, I mean:
britney spears and justin timberlake in matching jeans outfits
xtina and eminem (at the ICONIC vmas)
sony and cher (like halsey did!)
carl.
individually: spock! a little on the nose for him but COME ON. he's always dressing up as a star trek character, switching up every year. I can see him wearing something marvel related too.
couple: yeah, some star trek reference for sure but since that's not my breed of nerd (sorry not sorry), I'm saying:
jessie and james (pokemon)
loki and sylvie (loki series)
link and zelda (the legend of zelda)
Tumblr media
ahh!! this was so much fun to do!! thanks for asking, anon 💝 I had a blast with your question!!
(!) I don't know enough about the missing LIs to add them to this list. if you'd like to ask for a specific islander that didn't make the list, don't be afraid to drop your request in my inbox.
more headcanons.

i have a question abt the spock green skin stuff. i totally agree (obvs, cause it is anti semitic full stop) but i wanted to ask a clarifying question so i can make sure im understanding what counts correctly. is it referring to him having totally green skin or does him blushing slightly green and or bleeding count as well? thank you in advance i really appreciate it!
Hi! Thank you for the question, it's no problem to clarify! Of course, I don't speak for all Jewish people so there may be some people who disagree with the additional info. BUT this is what I've gathered talking to other Jewish Star Trek fans.
It's the totally green skin. Like a very slight green blush or bleeding green isn't antisemitic, Vulcans DO have green blood. But when people give him a bright green undertone or very clear green skin, that's when it crosses the line into antisemitism in my personal opinion.
I personally would try and grab Spock's skintone from the animated series or real life photos of Leonard Nimoy if you can!

Share your back to the future hcs i beg of you
Alright!! Here we gooo:
Marty is transmasc, and his parents don't really care if he is or isn't that much. Doc finds out one day and is absolutely ecstatic to support Marty and asks him questions about it.
Marty and Doc are both autistic and equally socially awkward. Marty has learned to mask, but tends to unmask a bit more around Doc
If Doc could, he would absolutely adopt Marty at the first chance he gets. He doesn't tend to admit it, but Marty is absolutely like a son to him.
George Mcfly is fucking autistic and I genuinely think this is almost canon.
Marty is a sci-fi fan cause that's all George ever used to watch. Doc is also a sci-fi fan and ended up infodumping to Marty about Star Trek once while they were working.
Marty definitely thinks Kirk and Spock were gay./hj
When Marty was younger, he climbed out of his window once and ran all the way to Doc's after an argument with his parents. Doc was awake, thankfully, and they both sorta just chilled out and talked till they fell asleep.
Doc never sleeps. Like. Ever. Marty doesn't know how the man still functions
Marty TRIES to stay up late, but ends up passing out at about midnight (unless he's had coffee or something)
Einstein LOVES Marty. I mean, I'm pretty sure he loves everyone, but if he was sitting in a room with people, he'd go over to Marty to lay on him.
Doc almost never gets sick and is surprisingly strong for a 71 year old (especially after the rejuvenation in part 2).
When Marty gets sick, he refuses to acknowledge it. It becomes a real issue sometimes.
Marty has fallen asleep in Doc's garage more than he'd like to admit.
Doc definitely bit people as a kid/hj
Marty will defend Doc with his LIFE. He constantly combatted the rumours about Doc around the school and always tried his best to let everyone know Doc was actually a great guy.
Twin pines timeline George and Lorraine didn't give a shit that Marty was with a man deemed to be literally insane and disgraced by the town , but Lone pine timeline Lorraine and George met Doc at some point and like him somewhat.
Doc is terrified of cats, but Clara LOVES them. He was hoping that when they got a cat, Einstein would chase it away or constantly bark at it enough that it just left.....Einstein loves the cat.
Jules and Verne absolutely adore Marty and see him as a big brother. Marty loves them just as equally.
Hope you enjoyed it!! Sorry, it was kinda short 😅
I know most of these wete about Doc and Marty, but I just love their friendship so much

The City on the Edge of Forever: The Original Teleplay (the comic)
The City on the Edge of Forever is arguably a pretty popular episode of TOS and with good reason. It's a pretty dramatic episode and it was influential in forming Kirk's character and inspiring future ST material, both in the beta canon and in fan works.
Fun fact (though a bit off-topic): Edith Keeler is brought up in the novelization for Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. Bones mentions her and it results in a pretty emotional altercation with Jim. The scene isn't in the film but I think it adds an interesting level to the story especially where Gillian Taylor is concerned. Makes her parting in the end sting a little worse.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"She had a mission in her life, and she wouldn't have given it up to go with you."
A bit of foreshadowing aye? Anyway, this aside, I actually have something else entirely to talk about.
Recently, a trek artifact found its way into my lap. And that is the comic version of Harlan Ellison's original script for The City on the Edge of Forever. The comic isn't that old really, but I'd seen other people talking about it and was excited to of found it out in the wild myself.
For those unaware, the script underwent a lot of changes resulting in pretty different experiences between it and the episode that aired. I think even more than what's in this comic version, which came out in 2015. I've not actually read the original script though.
I did read some commentary from Ellison who's original script apparently ended with Kirk deciding he would save Keeler, because fuck it, he loves her, and Spock saves the day by physically holding him back from doing so.
The episode ended with Kirk stopping McCoy, and by extension himself, from saving Keeler; the comic ends with Kirk hanging back as Spock stops Beckwith (instead of McCoy) from saving Keeler. I do have my opinions on which ending I like best but I'll get to that a bit later.
Since I've not read the original script (except for one exchange which is in the comic and was wholly responsible for my excitement in finding this comic to begin with), I will avoid comparing it to this comic for the most part. While, I'm sure there are differences, at present time I don't know all of them besides what I've already said above.
Instead, I will compare this comic experience to the episode. Besides, there's going to be a lot more differences I think between this and the show rather than this and the script.
So first things first, let's actually talk about the conflict here. I mentioned that instead of McCoy we have an antagonist of the week type named Beckwith. Beckwith is a drug dealer in karkow, which is a drug that resembles comically big, colourful crystals. Seems an unfortunate thing to have to ingest, but it apparently sends you on quiet the whirlwind.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Beckwith has some larger agenda surrounding this drug and has gotten one of his shipmates hooked so that they might, in a drug induced daze, assist him. This other lieutenant references that Beckwith caused a slaughter on Harper V, but I don't know what the details of this are. Looking it up only brought up a dead ensign, may he rest in peace lol.
So, while I'm curious, I don't think that bit of info is important beyond just detailing Beckwith's track record. It's a bit of a strange setup to me in some regard. Like it feels too big of an issue all on its own to just be a component of a story. I mean there was a "slaughter" on a planet because of very expensive and illegal drugs.
Additionally, there is something else very interesting about an antagonist that we aren't attached to, like McCoy. For one, we do not care if he lives or dies. Really we only care that he sees justice, because we care about the motivations of Kirk and Spock.
But in keeping with the episode, the conundrum ultimately becomes about the life or death of Edith Keeler. Beckwith, like McCoy, saves her and now Spock and Kirk have to prevent that. That's interesting because, we are given information that paints Beckwith in no uncertain terms, as a very bad person. Additionally, his saving of Keeler is something one of our leads wants very much to do himself. So it's a interesting dichotomy.
I sorta like that aspect of it a lot. McCoy wants to save Keeler because he's a good person and a doctor. We know that his ignorance and desire to save others motivate him. With Beckwith, its a bit of a mystery, and as an audience we must now think about what it means that Kirk and him might share a want or an instinct to save.
The comic ends with Kirk and Spock discussing this very dilemma. Why might Beckwith of done that? This may be the only part of the comic you'd know at all because it is in the original script, and pictures of the text circulate ST tumblr every so often.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Following this bit of a dialogue Spock asks Kirk why Beckwith would try to save Keeler. An appropriate question given what we know. I think the answer is a bit cryptic but the long and short of it is- humans are capable of good and bad things.
Beckwith, a horrible man, was still capable of saving a woman's life. And Kirk, noble and level headed as he is, can still be selfish. At the end there they mention Keeler and a soldier whom Kirk paid for information. The soldier is homeless and legless but saves Kirk's life when Beckwith fires at him, dying in the process. When they go back to the Guardians Kirk asks if the soldier's life, just as Keeler's, might have affected reality but the answer is no, he was inconsequential.
This cruel uncertainty about the value of people weighs on Kirk. He wasn't inconsequential to him. That man saved his life, and was paramount in finding Beckwith.
I think the ending dialogue is a bit confusing and I don't know if that's just me, but at the end Spock assures Kirk that Keeler was not negligible. Kirk replies, "...but, I loved her".
I think there is a thought which remains unsaid here about the loss of these two. Part of Kirk's confusion and hurt comes from the fact that if Keeler was so important to the future, why couldn't she be saved in some manner? Why was her fate to also die like the soldier, whose loss was labeled as negligible by the Guardians?
In response to this, Spock says:
"No woman was ever loved as much, Jim. Because no woman was ever offered the universe for love."
It's very touching. The value of life isn't lost because someone dies, and your feelings for her aren't without purpose or meaning because you didn't save her. It's something he needs to hear. Shortly after, Spock leaves, and Kirk now alone in his quarters screams into the inky darkness of space as the Enterprise hurtles on to boldly go... Good ending.
There are a lot of parts of the story which hit similar beats to the episode. The plot largely is intact after all but even in the way of dialogue. There are cute moments where Spock doesn't understand the lingo of the time period in both, for instance.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Additionally, the tension that builds between them, and which has been the source of so much fanfic, is very much alive and well in this comic. Some of those scenes play out pretty similarly as they do in the episode. Even the panel designs are reminiscent of shots from the show at times. But there's also bits like this only in the comic that I couldn't stop rereading...
Tumblr media
"Captain, fooling me is simple. Just give me the order, I will change my opinion."
WOOF WOOF. Just an absolutely great line. It's the sort of thing only Spock could and would say. There's something about it that is so rich with understated emotion, like the way a dam holds back a flood.
So would I recommend this? Oh, easily!
Is it better than the episode we got? This question is harder to answer so readily, but I think after much thought, I would say no.
So much change is taking place between these adaptions that they're different enough stories to both be fulfilling to experience. There are parts of this comic that I'd of loved to see acted out, for sure. Obviously there are some amazing bits of dialogue that did not make the final cut and that's disappointing; they'll always be in my heart, but I like the canon ending a lot more.
In the show, Kirk's choice to stop McCoy is really very significant. It's not just that he's stopping Bones, he's also stopping himself. He went back to save Bones and also the entire rest of the ship's crew after all. In my mind, Kirk was always going to make this choice no matter what. Yes, he loves Keeler, but it's not like he loves his ship, friends, or crew less. He just loves them in a different way. Ultimately though, he would always do what he needed to do when there proved to be no other option.
So I'd of hated an ending where Kirk defies the beliefs he's consistently maintained throughout the show to save Keeler. I also don't really like that Kirk hangs back in the comic's rendition and that Spock ends up stopping Beckwith. It's less significant for Spock to be the one doing it.
I don't mind Beckwith being there instead of Bones but I do think the drug dealing component to his character feels a bit out of place. As I said in the beginning, something about it feels too large to be just a mere component of an episode. It feels more deserving of its own episode entirely.
In any case, I really liked this comic. The art is beautiful and the back of the book included a bit of how J.K Woodward (the artist) went about creating panels and poses. Despite the fact that I ultimately like the episode we got, this comic is still a great story, so I think it's a nice addition to any Star Trek collection.

Just putting this out into the universe in hopes someone might be able to help me find it
I'm trying to find a Star Trek (AOS movies) fic I read a while ago. I believe it ended as McSpirk, but started off Spirk and Spones. I want to say it was a 5+1, but I'm not 100% sure in the regard. The gist of it was like, every away mission alien culture or some weird happenstance resulted in Bones and Spock having to sleep together and the end was Kirk actually being able to join in.
I feel like I remember a line from Spock to Bones about him causing distress within his relationship with Jim, and Bones being like, this isn't exactly a picnic for me either. I want to say there was at least one instance of Kirk like, gritting his teeth and begrudgingly telling Bones the best way to fuck Spock to get him off.
I've tried every combo of tags I can think of on AO3, I've tried Google, I've tried everything I can think of and I can't find this fic. I'm hoping it's not been deleted. If anyone can help, I will be forever grateful!

Triumvirate Prompts: Day 5
Tumblr media
(Prompts Link)
#5. Favorite platonic duo?
I love all the duos both platonically and romantically (some more than others but still), but I guess for this one I'll go with these two:
Tumblr media
It is criminal how underrated Kirk and McCoy's friendship is. It is always so hard for me to find content of them, at least in TOS, in any sense and it sucks because their friendship is so freakin' good. I could write a whole essay about them... and I'm actually working on one but I'll give the abridged version here.
I fell in love with their dynamic the minute I started watching TOS with The Man Trap. Kirk teasing McCoy about his old girlfriend, the natural chemistry between them and their actors, their professional relationship that can cause some tension, but they always make up quick. And of course McCoy finally killing the salt vampire despite it looking like his ex because it was killing Kirk, and he will never let that happen. That was all displayed there, and we get even more as we go.
Kirk always pressures himself to keep his strong Captain image on at all times and there's not many people he can let that drop around. McCoy's one of the few he's able to do that around. McCoy is always there to support him, encourage him, let him have just a moment to collect himself. When he's uncertain or struggling with his feelings/thoughts, McCoy is always right there to reassure him. Kirk may not always listen, but he still wants McCoy there to talk to him. He needs Bones to help him feel at ease. He needs that reassurance that he can pull through whatever he's facing at that moment. He needs that person who can reel him back when he's pushing too much. He cares so much about Bones and can't imagine being a Captain without him there.
McCoy is so fond of Jim. You can just tell by how he's always trying to support Jim and make sure that he's okay. Sure, as CMO that's his job, but it feels like he does go out of his way for Jim moreso than he does most. Most of the time when he's on the Bridge despite not needing to be there is to talk to Jim, whether it be to check on his mental well-being or to just give him a few minutes to have a friendly chat. He hates it whenever he angers or otherwise lets down Jim and almost seems to shut down when he does. Even so, if he sees Jim pushing too much or getting unreasonably angry at someone like Spock, he's not afraid to speak up and pull him back down. He knows and understands Jim so much and does everything possible to be there for him.
Tumblr media
Hell, for all the grief that I give AOS, I think that the Kirk and McCoy dynamic is one of the things that they got absolutely right. It's not the same as in TOS, they're younger and meet on route to the Academy. Kirk is a lot more brash and arrogant, and McCoy is more gruff and down on his luck. Despite that, they still became best friends. McCoy went out of his way to get Kirk onto the Enterprise just because he knew how much Kirk wanted to be there. McCoy's still that one person where Kirk can drop his mask and be more of his real self around. The scene in Beyond where they celebrate Kirk's birthday alone, McCoy knowing how hard it is for him due to it being when his dad died and just being there for him and Kirk letting himself be vulnerable around Bones, is such a beautiful scene. Like I can imagine it in TOS it's such a good scene. It shows why their friendship is so freakin' good and I love it.
I think the scene that best shows the Kirk/McCoy dynamic is in Motion Picture. Kirk has drafted McCoy out of retirement, which the latter isn't exactly happy about, especially when he finds out it was all Kirk's doing. Yeah, it is kind of a crappy move, but why did Kirk do this? Because he's finally got the Enterprise back and has a mission. He's got his crew back, but he doesn't have either McCoy or Spock. He can't really do anything about Spock, but McCoy?
KIRK: I need you. Dammit Bones, I need you! Badly!
He can't do it without him. He just can't.
And despite all his grumbling about being dragged back, the second that McCoy hears that?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That's all it takes for him to agree. All it takes for Jim to literally pull him back to be by his side. In the end, he can't deny Jim. If he needs him, he'll be there. Always.
IDK, I just love them so, SO much. I ship them super hard, and I could go on about that all day. But seriously, their relationship is so overlooked by both fandom and pop culture, and it's a shame because it is so, SOOOO good. No matter what universe it is, Kirk and McCoy are always together, and it's beautiful.

i wanna know YOUR top 5 d20 seasons now 👀 but also top 5 trek femslash pairongs so i can pay attention to them when i eventually have crawled through the original series
dimension 20:
Fantasy High - cause I'm basic and @counterspelling got me into it that way. "you've gotta watch it beej, it's so funny" and now because of that the two of us watch the shows as they premiere together. but yeah I love these bad kids and cycle through my own faves of them but c'mon the set up is just so fun and such a cool idea and then you hit that second episode and jfc, this is a little fucked up actually and you're hooked! you're just hooked!
Mice & Murder - I need this to have a sequel cause it was just so funny and I'm a sucker for a murder mystery type deal and grant and rekha are pure fucking chaos together and I miss raph, bring this cast back pls
A Court of Fey and Flowers - I honestly wasn't sold on this one at first cause regency stuff isn't my thing but holy shit, this one goes hard and I fucking loved it.
The Seven - for exactly the same reasons as you, I mean how can you not love this one, I will take twenty seasons of their quests now thank you
Unsleeping City - this one also took a bit for me to warm up to it but I find it a comfort one to watch now, I love Lou and Ally's characters and how they bounce off of each other and the way their relationship grew in the second season too. also Zac playing a one brain cell firefighter is just so fucking funny
trek femslash, okay so you know most of these aren't gonna be from TOS right? like TOS doesn't even have enough you can really make a top five really. also this one is not in a specific order at all unlike the other lists because it changes as I change. anyway here it is also in a specific order because I'm a liar.
B'Elanna/Seven - at least once a week I text @trillscienceofficer a thing about B7 because the two of us are so fucked up on it. it's about how they mirror each other....it's about how similar they are and can't and can see that and hate that in each other but admire each other. it's about how Seven is out here awkwardly flirting with B'Elanna like c'mon. I wrote a whole fucking essay about it! an essay!!!! (basically if you wanna know more please read that essay least I turn this into another essay about them)
Tasha/Deanna - I always think of this pairing in the sense of what could have been and what we did have still. Like in season one they were always reaching out to each other when the other was hurt or under the influence and then Tasha dies! she just dies! on a mission that was meant to save Deanna! I'm just supposed to go on with my life after that???? Like god, I can only imagine the episode when Deanna loses her powers and Tasha being there for her in that one or when Tasha's sister comes on the ship and Deanna being there for her in confronting the past and what she had to do to survive. I love them for what we got in s1 but I'm forever haunted but what else could have been there.
Uhura/T'Pring - they had one scene. one. where Uhura is out here like "hey Spock your fiance is beautiful" and damn if she a) wasn't right and b) on her way to steal Spock's fiance. that's all it took for me okay, I'm easy! sure this ship requires a lot of extrapolation and we don't know anything about T'Pring really (SNW don't interact) but I know in my heart I can fix that.
Jadzia/Lenara - the big canon femslash ship of 90s cause they got to kiss on screen and do you have any idea how that rewired my brain, like sure I took way too long to figure out I liked girls too but that episode lived in my head rent free. and it was about how they couldn't be together! there were too many external factors! and they missed their chance! they missed their chance!!!!!!!!!! the scene where they pull away from each other realizing this isn't going to happen.....god.....just end me and bury me with that scene thanks.
Beckett/T'Lyn - this one is new and currently at the top because of the newness to me and the season just ended so it's my head. like I went in the season expecting to really like T'Lyn/Tendi and I did! but I came out liking these two more, there's just something about that episode where they really bonded and understood each other. I really need more of them in the future.

So I wrote a fic and got a Werid comment on it and I’m not sure if I handled it correctly?
I copied what they said below:
PLEASE DON'T BE HAREM OR BL. I need a good straight Danny match up. Especially with someone NOT Ember or Valerie. It's cool if this is no romance or no couple story. Cooler if it isn't trans. I'm sick of the trans Danny trope. Like a character can't be sleek without being trans. I like Danny as he is, a cis boy and straight and powerful and dorky.
Then I responded:
Hello! Thank you for reading my fic. It’s super weird that you said all that. I also don’t like harems but about the other stuff… you do know you’re reading fanfiction right? Like. It was built on Spock x Kirt, a mlm ship. I mean I guess I get what you mean with bl cause I find that term to be both infantilizing and sexualizing mlm couples (at least that’s what it was when I was younger). I wasn’t planning on pairing Danny with anyone. But It’s like you come into my house and tell me how to act. And I disagree with you thinking people write Danny (or any character) as trans because it’s sleek. I think most of us just relate to these characters and can connect the things they experience to us. I think the only thing I agree with you is that Danny is powerful and dorky. Also Grey Ghost is top tier???
Should have I just deleted it? Should I have been nicer? Should I have been meaner? Idk. I don’t really post stuff so I’m not sure how to respond. It just took me off guard

We're putting out wet food 3x a day or whenever Spock expresses interest, so of course the older cat, Liza, is just eating a shitton of wet food, bc she and Spock love sharing bowls. For the past few weeks, they've gone from all dry food to primarily wet food.
Did you know that switching to mostly wet food can make your cats fart like crazy? I did not.
I mean, I know now that Liza has sat by my head and just farted nonstop for like 15 minutes. I've been so paranoid about Spock that I looked up fucking... causes of gassy cat to make sure Liza isn't also actively dying. And no, probably not, she just needs to fart.
Jesus christ how am I going to get thru this when "18 year old cat eats wet food, farts loudly" is freaking me out.

72 and 55 if you are still going!
I def am! Hi Ked 😊
55. Have you noticed any patterns in your fics? Words/expressions that appear a lot, themes, common settings ect?
I'm sure there's more than I notice, but I definitely repeat the tropes! I go in for miscommunication and pining basically every time. Even if I'm writing established relationship I manage to make them pine.
Regarding expressions, I do try not to Americanise myself unless the character is particularly American. Cos, like, McCoy is southern. So he gets Southern phrases from me. But Kirk and Spock are also American really but not in a particular way, it's more that universal type of American where it's treated as default. When I write those kinds of default American characters I let myself be Australian about it because that's my default and I don't want to lose that for fanfiction.
That has led to some amusing miscommunications with American readers who are (appropriately!) reading with an American sort of voice but I'm not writing with that. My fave was when I used yonks which means a lot (in a measurement type of way) and got tonnes of confused comments 😂 I hadnt even clocked it as slang, it's just a word for me.
I think the sentence was something like "but that was yonks ago" and people were DMing me to say "hey, funny typo on that page, I think you meant years?" But I didn't! Yonks can be used for distance too, something can be fucking yonks away. I never bothered to change it, it's okay for my voice to be Aussie
But yeah, I'm sure there are many expression particular to me that I don't notice cos it's just cultural
72. What's your favourite writing compliment that you've gotten?
I don't know! I can give you two very impactful ones tho.
Someone left a comment once that discussed how natural my dialogue is, and that's really stayed with me. It caused me to reflect on my process (which starts with dialogue only) and I realised I agree with them! I have quite a strong capacity to make the beats of time in a conversation be reflected in punctuation and description. I'm glad someone pointed it out cos I feel quite a bit of pride over that now, but I hadn't noticed on my own!
The other is all the comments my first ever fic got. I reread it not long ago (maybe a year) and it's appropriately amateur in vice. If I had less find memories of it I'd be embarrassed by it. But the comments are all just so fucking kind. It's unbelievable and it made me commit to being a writer. Everyone pointed out some strength they saw and I can see a direct line from those comments to my style now in what I doubled down on being good at. Someone complimented the humour, and I now do not shy from putting jokes in my stories. Someone talking about it being in character (by my standards now it so isn't, but it was such a shaping comment for me anyway) and I take care to go proof scenes constantly to make sure it's still true to character rather than just being useful to the plot.
It as such a wonderful early experience to have and I cannot express my gratitude enough to those few people who read my weak-ass first post! I love them and I love that fic because of them, no matter how far below my standards it now is. What a marvellous way to interact with new writers

Alright listen I have some thoughts about this finale and need to bounce them off the void, if anyone has thoughts I'd love to hear them. But anyway
I don't get the arrest thing? No I mean I get that she's being arrested for deception and lying about being Illyrian/GMOd but like. So this entire episode, the main moral takeaway is that trying to change the future will cause unforseen consequences, and that you need to learn to accept fate. And while Pike is in the future, we learn from La'an and Spock that Una was arrested for GMOing and has been on that penal colony with no contact for the last 7 years. And from what we know so far, the big point of divergence (the accident where Pike either dies or lives) is still 7 years away. SO what's the point of showing us her arrest in such a dramatic cliffhanger at the end of the episode? Especially with Pike saying "This isn't over" or whatever. Because it sort of does two things, depending on how they play it next season.
They could have us watch as Pike continues to not learn his lesson, and continue fighting to free/absolve her despite knowing how the future ends up and knowing there will be consequences. So they spend multiple episodes drawing this out, but there is only minimal tension because we know how this plays out, we know she is imprisoned so any arguments he makes are pointless. Interesting for sure, I want to know how it happens, but sort of undercuts any tension we could have in wondering how this resolves.
OR. Or we watch Pike fight beaurocracy and he succeeds! He saves Una and changes the future. This is a fun way to show us something we know the ending to, then subvert our expectations. This then undercuts the message of the finale though? Because then we know that changing the future is possible, but creates this thing where like. Pike is our special boy and it doesn't matter what happens to other people, they can change the future however they want and it doesn't matter. but if Pike doesn't be a good boy and die like he's supposed to, then it's a complete universal disaster war. And if we hadnt quite had this episode the way it was, y know, we could use this moment to give hope, that "oh if we can change her future, maybe Pike CAN actually figure out how to avoid his fate". But they just showed us in this episode why he can't.
Idk just seems like whatever they're about to do with this Una like could get messy????
---
OK SIDE NOTE THOUGH WTF JUST HAPPENED WITH MY GIRL ERICA ORTEGAS?????? like, was anyone else taken aback at how out of character it felt for her to be so aggressive and hateful and immediately jumping to "murder all romulans no hesitation" to the point where she is arguing with Pike and ready to throw Spock overboard??????? Like obviously we don't know what's happened in the last 7 years to have made her feel like this. But everyone else seemed relatively in character (I mean La'an was huggy which was weird, but I mean that's what 7 years of therapy and a journey of self-discovery will do for you so I'm willing to pass that one) so it just made Erica stand out even more as being weird and mean.
