Los Lobos Remember Pee-wee Herman with Archival “Friday Night Videos” Clip

- “Farewell, Amigo, you were a good soul,” Louie Pérez says

Whether one was “from” East L.A. or one was “from” Los Lobos, Pee-wee Herman was gonna charge them a buck to sit on Chairry. And pity the sucker who tricked him into saying the secret word.

Both of these things happened when David Hidalgo, Louie Pérez and Conrad Lozano - from Los Lobos - visited Herman on “Friday Night Videos” while promoting By the Light of the Moon.

Los Lobos unearthed the 1987 video to remember their “amigo” Herman, whose creator and alter ego, Paul Reubens, died this week.

And it turned out Herman wasn’t impressed by celebrity.

It’s an uproariously ridiculous segment that begins with the band fighting over Chairry and ends with Herman refusing to air the Wolves’ video. He was kidding, of course, and the band remembers the ordeal fondly.

“So much fun hanging with Pee-wee …,” Pérez said in a statement.

“Farewell, Amigo, you were a good soul. R.I.P.”

Summary: Hoops and Yoyo spend a day at Pee-wee’s playhouse.

Author’s Note: Ever since I saw Hoops and Yoyo Ruin Christmas (aka the BEST Hallmark Christmas movie ever made!), I had this in mind that I just couldn't wait to share! And yes, like my other Pee-wee fanfics, this one is dedicated to Paul Reubens (May he rest in peace 💔)

Also, this is the first time I wrote a fanfic that's not an X reader/OC one.

"Good morning, Conky!" Pee-wee cheered as he was getting excited for what was going to happen today. "Do you know what's today's secret word?"

Conky printed out a piece of paper with the secret word on it. "Today's secret word is... Happy!" Pee-wee exclaimed. "And you know what to do when anyone says the secret word, right? Scream real loud!"

He gestured to Chairry, asking her, "Say, Chairry, how are you feeling right now?"

"Well, Pee-wee," Chairry replied, "I'm feeling quite happy."

"AAAAAHH!!!" Everyone in the Playhouse screamed, with Chairry giggling.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. Pee-wee answered it to find a pair of anthropomorphic animals, one a pink cat, the other a green bunny.

"OHMIGOSH!" Hoops, the pink cat, cheered. "I can't believe it, Yoyo! We're meeting the Pee-wee Herman!"

"Heck yes!" Yoyo agreed. "Oh, Pee-wee, it's such an honor to meet you! Hoops and I can't help but feel happy!"

"AAAAAH!" Everyone in the Playhouse screamed, much to Hoops and Yoyo's laughter.

"Let me guess," Hoops commented. "We said the secret word, right?"

"Indeed, you did," Pee-wee nodded.

For snack time, Pee-wee asked what Hoops and Yoyo's favorite foods were, to which they both replied "Donuts!"

"Well, today's your lucky day, 'cuz guess what I have in the fridge?" Pee-wee opened the refrigerator door to briefly view the fruits and vegetables performing a circus act, just as he grabbed a pink cardboard box from it and opened it to reveal a variety of delicious donuts.

"Yay!" Hoops and Yoyo simultaneously cheered as they each grabbed a donut from the box and took a bite out of it. "Thanks, Pee-wee!"

Throughout the day, Hoops and Yoyo spent it having a lot of fun with Pee-wee. They watched the cartoon that the King of Cartoons presented, they each took turns sitting on Chairry, and they learned to make pizza, which they all enjoyed. Just as the day was about to come to an end, Pee-wee grabbed his scooter and helmet, saying "Wanna join me?"

"Sure!" Hoops and Yoyo accepted before getting onto the scooter.

"Today was sure a lot of fun," Hoops commented about how today marked one of their best days ever.

"And remember to bring on the happy!" Yoyo said before everyone in the Playhouse screamed.

"Good one, Yoyo!" Hoops exclaimed.

Eventually, Pee-wee took off on his scooter, with Hoops and Yoyo riding along.

Pokemon AlteRed With Gun is um. Really good so far?

The last time i tried AlteRed was a couple years back and the sprites were...pretty bad. Evidently the team refined a lot of their ideas and made some genuinely excellent pokemon in the end.

Here. Just one example.

This is Zigzagrub. It's a bug/electric retype of Zigzagoon. It has some fun ideas, and the core color palette is pretty good, but the shading is off and the freehand spritework is less than stellar. It's pretty average as far as rom hack spriting goes. This is from the original AlteRed, it's what I encountered in version 10.2.

THIS is the modern Zigzagrub.

Holy SHIT what a pokemon! FosterZ and Chairry did this according to the doc and just look at that little guy! It's still recognizably a Zigzagoon retype, but it's also a firefly and those BLUES. I saw that and said "I NEED IT." This sprite is in AlteRed With Gun and i believe is also in the current version of the original AlteRed.

It shows an incredible improvement in the art department, and it gets me excited to find out what else they've done to the pokemon i know and love. AlteRed With Gun is sort of a difficulty hack, a companion to AlteRed they apparently released for April Fool's. As old school binary hacks they have their bugs, but come on. Go back and look at the Zigzagrub. That's a friend.

For me a rom hack lives and dies by the quality of its sprites and AlteRed is thriving. I'm personally extremely pleased with how it's developing, and I'm having enough fun with it in a casual playthrough i might even do a challenge run or two.

#idk i felt compelled to review this rom hack i started playing yesterday #its just fun and it has so many cool sprites #apparently one of the bugs is that all the in-game trade pokemon are in this weird state of like #both shiny and normal. they appear shiny and their battle intro includes the sparkles but their summary page is that of a normal pokemon #same sprite but no star no blue panel nothing. its super weird lmao #the one bug im actually a little miffed by is this one that affects Substitute. #not the move the pokemon. Substitute exists to give you exp but its also catchable albeit with a comically low catch rate. #i had an easier time catching byoxys #once you catch substitute though you will discover that it doesnt do anything you want it to #it acts as though you dont have enough gym badges for its level even when its level 4 and you are the ot #anyway i have three of them and two are shiny and i want to use them very badly so i hope this is a fixable issue and not like #a load bearing coconut where if you get rid of it the whole thing breaks

I call it millennial mourning cuz we cant afford the grown up things we want. I try to buy quality clothing and my god thats like standing on my tippy toes to afford. Id love a house/condo, husband, not sure on kids, a real life job with purpose…i aint got shit.

But re being a kidault (i hate that term) my dumb things make me happy. My mcdonalds witch bucket purse, chairry, my monkey toy my mother gave away eons ago, the few y2k things i was able to save and could prbly get a pretty penny for.

Gotta find joy somewhere
