This art is a bit old, it's from May 2023, but honestly, I'm still quite proud of it, shockingly enough. As you could probably guess, this art is of Bloodstorm and Cherryfrost fighting into the lake and drowning each other, giving me very strong Onestar and Darktail vibes...

next is cherryfrost, my warriors sona. i made them back when i still used only they/it pronouns. i think theyre my only sona that has no green on them, let alone doesnt have green eyes, which i do irl...pairing them with this flag fixes that though :3

sooo i redesigned a lot of my childhood warrior cats ocs... some of them I totally forgot about until I raided an old page of mine LOL. I could have kept their original bright colors and designs, but I liked the challenge of finding colorways and cat shapes/breeds that are more plausible than what I depicted in my art from age 9 to 12 :]

the childhood art that I referenced for the redesign is below the cut with associated rambling, mostly in order of the above characters, if you want to know what I drew as a kid haha

This is Cherryfur/Cherryfrost, who I made a Siberian cat. In the redesign, I tried to hint at her old pink very lightly in her stripes. I also made her and heartmelt/roseheart siblings, since they were both once pink :)

This is Bloodmask, who I renamed Russetmask. I figured russet was as close to blood-colored as a real cat would get, lol. I'm not sure how plausible a mask pattern is on a russet cat, but what's warrior cats without a little implausibility? His original character was very edgy, so I tried to translate that outlandishness into a more realistic characteristic - I made him a feral cat turned deputy, which seems like a social no-no.

This is Shreddedstar. She was the leader of "BeastClan", a clan I made which was the home for a Warriors RPG group I hosted. Years later I deleted that group in a fit of embarrassment and now I HATE that I did that, because I had some nice memories from there! In the redesign, I didn't keep the Clan's trait of wearing animal pelts and teeth, because honestly I did not feel like looking for reference and making it make sense. I renamed her Foxstar, after her orange pelt, and I also gave her markings because apparently pure orange cats don't exist. She's an American Bobtail.

This is the oldest digital art I think I have. And Nightscar is the oldest warrior cat OC I have! He was renamed Nightbird because I don't think Foxstar would be so mean as to make his warrior name a comment on his scars. I made him an Oriental Shorthair.

I forgot about these two until I found this art. Idk if they were for anything or if I ever drew them again, but I pulled them out of retirement. I renamed Whispersong (left) to Whisperthroat and Jadestorm (right) to Lichenbark, to reference her former green design. I also changed their whole backstory... idk why but at ~10 years old all my cats had dead parents and were traumatized about it in some way. I think that was my childhood brain's concept of a character idea.

This girl is Heartmelt, who was another BeastClan character! I renamed her Roseheart and made her sisters with Cherryfrost - she's a Siberian like her sister. in the name of realism I sadly got rid of her pinkness and hearts. But, I left her a heart on her chest :]

Last but not least is the unfortunately named "Painfulshadow". I renamed him Slateshade and tried to keep a little indication of his wings in his patterning :) he's a domestic shorthair classic tabby.

Notes on changes from canon below!

Rabbitfur is Mapleshade’s maternal grandfather. Maple’s mother died before the events of MV. He follows Maple into exile.

Seedpelt is Maple’s father. He became distant from his kits after his mate’s passing and turned his back on Maple when she was banished.

Eaglestorm and Squirrelwhisker had Windflight when they were older warriors and Sweetbriar is the sister of Squirrel.

Both Sweetbriar and Oakstar were very young when they had their first litter. Sweet was upset with Oak after Maple’s banishment and the two attempted to repair their relationship with another litter.

Reedshine is the daughter of Darkstar, which is why she had the influence to keep Appledusk from being exiled. Despite this, she never really forgave him for his double life. Applefrost is now Cherryfrost.

Mapleshade and Fallowsong are sisters. They were close during their apprenticeship but became more distant as warriors. When Maple was exiled, Fallow protested but quickly grew quiet when threatened with exile herself. While there halfclan relationships are against the code, most cats of the clans turn a blind eye to it. The biggest reason Oakstar chose to exile Mapleshade was her relationship specifically with Appledusk and his initial belief that her kits were his grandchildren.

Frecklewish is now Frecklecloud.

While he was alive, Birchface and Mapleshade became closer when they mentors together. Birch mentored Flowerpaw while Maple mentored her sister, Harepaw, later Harepounce. They never had romantic feelings for each other however.

Pinestar is the full brother of Frecklecloud and Birchface. When he left the clans, he was given the name Henry by his housefolk. He lived a long life there.

Littlestep is the brother of Larksong.

Part of Mapleshade’s hatred for Appledusk’s lineage is Willownose’s relationship with Little. As the relationship was never revealed, she faced no consequences for a relationship with a ThunderClan cat.

When Mapleshade crosses the river, Patchkit is the sole survivor, as he was being carried by Rabbitfur, who managed to avoid the wave that swept Maple and her kits into the river. When RiverClan refuses them they move into the barn. Maple leaves on her quest for revenge and never returns. Patchkit takes on the name Patches and lives a long life as a housecat, having kits himself. Mapleshade is the Great great grandmother of Scourge.

Snowfur is now Snowstorm. Her son is named after her.

Stonefur’s name is now Stonetalon.

Tawnypelt and Bramblestar are Tawnystar and Brambleflower respectively. Blackstar dies soon after Sol is chased out and Russetstar (Russetfur) is leader when the Kin take over. Tawnyclaw becomes leader after she dies. Bramble is briefly deputy but steps down after Hawkfrost dies. He and Squirrelflight are like siblings though he does step up to help raise her kits.

cherryfrost was a very well-respected and well-liked skyclan warrior on account of her sweet nature and fierce loyalty, but many of her clanmates turned cold when she took a loner as a mate. skyclan had been having trouble with a group of rogues trespassing on their territory, and they falsely assumed that kai belonged to that group. cherryfrost fell hard for the handsome tom’s charm, and soon enough she became pregnant. unfortunately, her pregnancy was riddled with complications that left her weak and exhausted after giving birth to her sole son, lightningkit. despite the medicine cat’s best efforts, her body was too weak to fight off a bout of illness spreading through the camp, and she passed on only a quarter moon later. kai waited nearly a moon to meet his son, but with no way of accessing the clan, he believed that cherryfrost had intentionally abandoned him and left, but it couldn’t have been further from the truth. she never stopped watching her family from starclan, serving as a guide to young lightningclaw and bringing kai to visit her in starclan’s hunting grounds after he passed, where the loner tom asked for her forgiveness. she eventually came to terms with her untimely death, and was overjoyed when sparkkit (and later alderkit and applekit) was born.

Bloodstorm is a scrawny(doesn't look it here) badly scarred golden and white molly with firey amber eyes, her fur is ragged and dulled with age, her teeth are dark yellow and her sharp claws are stained red from blood.

Bloodstorm, the bane of her mother's whole existence.. Bloodstorm was born under the name Honeykit with her sisters to Petalstar. She grew up happy, but became very violent as an apprentice– so violent that Honeypaw was held back from being made a warrior. A decision that infuriated Honeypaw and drove her to the point of murdering her mentor. In which she was immediately exiled for. Angry and grieving, Petalstar forever carried the question with her, asking how her daughter became the way she did. Honeypaw soon renamed herself Bloodstorm and continued, very actively terrorizing the clans, forming a rouge group that would often attack her old clan at random times. Bloodstorm's reign of terror over the clans, especially WindClan, only ended many years later, after she killed many, many cats, when her own littermate, Cherryfrost had sacrificed herself to drown Bloodstorm in the lake, both dying from it.

Yeah, the reason the storyline is called clans in darkness, is because there's just so many villains in it, therefore thrusting the clans into darkness, which again is the arc's namesake.

DESIGN NOTES

ok so this was originally posted on my main blog as a cat-ified version of a homestuck character (yes yes i know), but i realized i liked the designs too much to just not use them again, so some of them will be posted here as background characters. i’m going to be careful to make sure they’re distinctly different characters, but if i’m wrong to do so please let me know.

that said, he has the exact same eye color as his father, grandfather, and daughter

also inherited spiky fur and bent tail from his dad

ears too got dam big, top teeth also too got dam big

small square chin, triangle nose, and strong hind legs

lean and sort of lanky

short list of personality traits: irritable, skittish, quiet, loyal, workaholic, spacey, witty, prideful, usually has good intentions at heart

son of lightningclaw and shellfang. his mother was exiled for treason when he was around 4 moons old, and even before then, he was always aware of how poorly she treated his father. while shellfang was never explicitly unkind to sparkkit, he’d witnessed how easily she turned on others when she didn’t get her way, and so he learned early on to walk on eggshells around her. after her exile, lightningclaw moved into the nursery to care for him until he was apprenticed, and the two grew very close. after sparkpaw became an apprentice, his father was called away by starclan to go on a journey, but for all sparkpaw knew he was dead or chased out by the halfclan-hating thunderclan and riverclan leaders. during this time, he confided a great deal in his mentor, swiftspring, and found comfort in the shadowclan apprentice russetpaw.

he was ecstatic when lightningclaw returned alive and well, and even prouder when his father became deputy. he gained his warrior name, sparkflight, for his skill in navigating the tallest of treetops, but even afterwards he continued to meet russetshine in secret. their relationship became more open after the battle with foxstar resulted in a more relaxed following of the warrior code, and a few moons later russetshine was pregnant. although of course she loved them, she wasn’t ready to raise kits alone and loved shadowclan too much to move to skyclan, so sparkflight brought his children to be raised as skyclan, with occasional visits to see their mother at the border. he became one of skyclan’s most trusted warriors and remained close with his family, helping lightningstar in his old age, maintaining a relationship with russetshine, and raising his kits the best he could.
