I told my church choir director about my plan to transition last night. We were both several drinks deep at the bar and having a heart-to-heart. He was supportive and said he is ultimately very excited to see me becoming myself, but admitted he feels not having me as a soprano in his choir would be a huge loss. Naturally, I’m pretty conflicted about that. I really hate to inconvenience people, and I’m terrified of people pitying me when my voice isn’t what they remembered, especially when it’s inevitably going to be in that crackly unstable place for a while.
On a lighter note, when he saw me, he said he thought I had already started transitioning. I’ve lost a little weight this summer and got a good haircut so my face is a little less round than usual right now. Plus I have like, dark peach fuzz on my face naturally even without HRT, which he touched like “what is this?” I said, “It’s my mustache, any questions?” It was a weird interaction but we had a good laugh about it. I feel a real kinship with him. He’s an older gay man and really makes an effort to understand me. I think of him like a queer role model, and I think he thinks of me like a young queer to take under his wing. I’m glad we have a good rapport, and I sincerely hope I can keep singing for him while my voice changes.

The King Of Love
The King Of Love
“Sometimes you get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right.” ~~ Jerry Garcia You are my shelter and my shield;I put my hope in your word. ~ Psalm 119:114 The King of Love My Shepherd Is – arranged by Dan Forrest Choral arrangement : for you directors of music. Quote of the week from my church choir director: "Thanks to all of you for your hard work on the special music. Holy Week is always a killer for musicians... but to be fair, it was a killer for Jesus, too."

My first song! Vibes inspired by MCR. I wanted this to be kind of an MCR interlude (like Romance or Interlude)
For some reason everytime sing or play piano it sounds like diet evanescence but I'm pretty stoked on this one!

Just a few reasons why we need more truly secular school/community/professional choirs to, like, exist:
More welcoming for singers and audience members who are non-religious
More welcoming for singers and audience members of minority religions
More welcoming for singers and audience members who are uncomfortable having their sacred music taken out of context
Church choirs already exist, and there are a million other ensembles singing Gloria and Requiem and Ave Maria and Hallelujah Chorus; I promise the folks who like singing and listening to the religious classics have no shortage of options available to them
There is so much amazing secular repertoire out there that gets passed over time and time again in favor of the same old church pieces. Expand! Explore!! Seize this musical opportunity!!!
...I want to sing in a choir xD 😭

just very pissed at the fact that lost like 3 years of possibly actually learning how to use voice because teacher was transphobic.
half a year with second director taught more about how to use voice than 3 with first. not like wasn't in any advanced choirs. was in 3 and theater.
was stuck in skill level because he wouldn't teach.

Very big fan of media that goes “wouldn’t it be romantic if we rotted here together” like yes, it is very romantic, correct.

Minor throwaway sentence in a book on corruption I've just finished was talking about 1930s gangsters and about certain organisations in Chicago which the author stated were more ethnically diverse than the Italian mafia, and whose members were said to have included 'Irish, Welsh, Italian, and Jewish' gangsters.
Now call me sheltered but I've seen MANY Italian American gangsters immortalised in film, I've heard of the Jewish mob, and the police Irish American gangs but I have yet to see a movie about the Welsh mob. As a rule I don't go in for gangster movies but I feel there's an unfilled niche here and also I need more info.
#Might delete this in a bit#On a more serious note given the context of the Great Depression and slumps in the coal mining districts of Britain#I can see why Welsh people who emigrated to America might be form an impoverished immigrant community targeted by organised crime#And possibly my surprise comes from outdated national stereotypes and the fact that popular stereotypes of 1930s gangsters#Rarely include immigrant groups that are largely Protestant (at least in the US- in Glasgow and London it's a different story)#Makes me wonder if all those Catholic Aesthetics that directors who make movies about Italian and Irish mobsters are so fond of#Would play the same with Meredith Davies who may be a crook but at least he regularly attends the Methodist chapel#And is a teetotaller and a fixture in various choirs#Welsh accents are often quite soft too I think I'd be fucking terrified of a Welsh gangster in a movie tbh#To be fair real life organised crime obviously encompassed people from all walks of life I'm more interested in movie depictions here#'More Welsh representation!' 'Ah yes how about as gangsters?' 'Er...'#Less surprised if I come across Scots because eventhough they're privileged in the US English media does seem to view Scottish accents#As threatening so Scots often get roped in to play tough guys and gangsters and villains in all sorts of media#And often they will get an Englishman to play a Scot and Scots to play Eastern Europeans which is also weird#But that's off topic; I am not however used to Welsh villains

context: orchestra director and choir director are married.
yall i was in orchestra right. we're playing this passage in the piece and are on a flow roll when the teacher suddenly goes "stop" kinda loudly and we stop
and we turn and he turns to the door where the choir director is standing there. and he says, "alright kids so this is my wife Mrs *last name*, she's the choir teacher. *her first name* is her first name." and she complimented our pizzicato. and then they had a super tiny chat and then she left
the reason im pointing this out is because he literally stopped the whole orcehstra because his wife was in the doorway and when i tell yall that's relationship GOALS
