Where I am considering some of these fandoms:

I'm a Tyler Galpin apologist but NOT an Xavier Thorpe hater. I am also a HadleyRaoul—and Raoul de Chagny in general—defender, and a Raoulstine shipper (BUT I love the Phantom/Erik and do not dislike him by any means 🥺), and I generally don't acknowledge Love Never Dies much. My favorite cast of Studio C is the original cast (including Tori, Dalton and Aaron) but I still enjoy some of the sketches from the new cast. I also love the Star Wars original trilogy and the prequel trilogy, but not really the sequels. I don't mind the third HTTYD movie and I love all the HTTYD series. My favorite Spider-Man movies are the TASM ones, and Andrew Garfield is my fav Spider-Man/Peter Parker. Yes I love both Narnia and His Dark Materials.

Look, when a dynamic starts with one running the other off a bridge, only to be rescued and receive the kiss of life from said other, it's very compelling. I still love all the Clana and Clois drama, but Clex is just soo complex and layered!!

Okay, so, trying to weed through the reasons Last Twilight is losing me emotionally, and it turns out there are more than I thought.

Please note that there's still a lot I like about this show! I'll still keep watching it! This is just about the negative stuff while I sort out my feelings.

On the other hand, the negative stuff is NEGATIVE, so read at your own peril!

1. I'm not sure I buy these two as boyfriends. The initial banter was great, but now they're together, and they still feel like chums.

2. Follow-up: I'm not convinced, in general, that they're strong enough actors for this story. There have been plenty of shows for me that manage to sell ridiculous plots through strong performances. This show is the other way around: it's fairly solid but demands a LOT of its actors, and sometimes I just don't buy the result.

3. Acknowledging that I may just be expecting too much, because it's Aof and I've been waiting for it for so long. But looking back, there was quite a bit in his other shows that was sold by the performances, and now I retroactively question my judgement of those shows too, which makes me sad.

4. I don't like the Mee story. I enjoyed the Little Prince reference in episode 1 because it's a book I'm already familiar with and emotionally invested in, but Mee's story just feels cloying and manipulative. It feels like they don't trust the scenes well enough on their own and have to add commentary to make sure I have the right reactions to them. And then I still don't! Because I resent being told what to feel!

5. We're hitting a lot of disability clichés, which maybe wouldn't be so bad if they weren't treated as profound. Again, I feel like I'm being emotionally manipulated, rather than allowed to arrive at those emotions on my own.

(Sidenote: the trope of a blind person touching someone's face to "see" them was pretty much ruined for me by one of those "ask a blind person" segments, where they went, "Yeah, we don't do that," except for one guy who went, "I do it to pick up sighted girls, they love that stuff.")

6. We are completely losing Mhok's story in the process. Maybe we'll get back to it later, IDK, but right now he serves primarily as the "inexperienced able-bodied person teaching disabled person how to live their own damn life" trope that I have already talked about hating.

7. A lot will still depend on where this story is heading. (If they do magical healing I am done. I think they won't, but I don't trust it.)

8. Some fan reactions are making it worse, especially in the youtube comments, where they really lean into the most maudlin interpretations.

9. Things like the dad showing up just feels like they drop melodrama in there for the sake of it, and without being willing to properly engage with it. Compare and contrast Jam's appearance in Moonlight Chicken, where the emotions felt so much more honest and well handled... but again, better actors...

10. The way Day projects his own shitty driving onto Night isn't WRONG for the series, it may even be GOOD, but it did put me in a bad mood that may have influenced my ability to engage with the rest of the episode.

11. Nitpicking, but I just don't get them giving Last Twilight as a wedding gift. I mean, obviously I get it on a symbolic level, but on a practical level, why would you give a book to the person who recommended it to you, and so presumably already has it? And why would you give a book missing its last page to anyone?

12. With everything else stacking up, that final scene on the mountain just felt like someone was spraying whipped cream into my mouth while blasting "Memory" on high volume = may be a high point for others, just makes me feel like I'm choking on dairy and violins.

ETA 13: A MLC gifset just reminded me – the product placements in Last Twilight really feel shoehorned in.

my coworker is a drama watcher. she started during the pandemic with CLOY and hasn't looked back. she only knows about netflix and viki. i introduced her to iqiyi, YT, odk, tencent, and talked about the old days of dramafever. ("there are dramas on youtube? do you have to pay?" NOPE. i think it changed her world) i kind of skimmed over my gaga sub and changed the subject. I don't know her well enough for her to know about all my subscriptions, lol. she didn't know about MDL and was trying to find things through other ways. i introduced her to Till the End of the Moon. She finished it before me. She came into my office today to say "I don't like girls, but I just loved to look at the female lead". say no more ma'am. Here's some gifsets of Arsenal Military Academy - you will only love Bai Lu even more. She is adding it to her watchlist!! She wanted to know what app I was using to show her gifs and I literally hid my username so she couldn't find me on tumblr. i don't make anything creative, so i highly doubt she will find me. i'm so happy she works in my office! i listened to drama OSTs and bulgarian pop music in her car today that her family doesn't let her listen to. she's relieved to find out i have several OSTs and that she's not alone. (i love love love the OST for Modern Farmer and that got me started) i gave her family friendly recs to watch with her kids like racket boys and to fly with you. which my kid loved when she was 6. "your daughter is okay with subtitles?" YES we're a subtitles on family, even when watching something in our language. who can understand TV these days without "turning the words on" thank you very much

Some thoughts on my fandoms that I think could make you rethink your decision if you really want to give me a follow...

First of all, I am a multishipper. I don't really care what anyone ships. I just care about mine.

STAR WARS: I don't think the sequels were that bad. Fandom's treatment of TROS is too overreacting imo, that movie was just trying to pick up the shambles left from TLJ. I've shipped Reylo ever since TFA dropped. I also love FinnRey a lot. Luke and Obi-Wan are my favorite SW characters. Ahsoka is overrated. SWR was awesome and it's one of my favorite animated series. I silenced DinLuke so take what you want out of that.

DC: I didn't like The Batman (2022). I like my Riddler corny and campy. Gotham and Stargirl are my favorite DC series but I also enjoyed most of Smallville. I ship Batman with like everyone but my favorites are with Superman, Wonder Woman, GL (Hal). The only ones I don't really prefer are with Selina and Talia. I love Silver Age stories - BATB was so good. I also love JSA a lot. Love Clois also.

MG: I don't participate in the Kojima circlejerk - I am grateful for him to give us a series like this though. I particularly have a problem with his handling of some stuff, especially female characters in his stories. I love Solid Snake and Raiden the most and will do everything to defend them lol. I also love Liquid Snake and think Solidus is hot. I don't really care that much about Big Boss and the games surrounding him tbh. Otasune is canon also Ocelhira is a lot of fun. BBKaz just for angst purposes, I like it.

Yakuza: Kiryu Kazuma is my mans. I love him with all my heart. I also love Date a lot. I ship Rikiryu the most I guess, but I don't really mind other ships. If you think Kiryu is boring... idk what to tell you.
