Build complete!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These older Seed MG’s are closer to a HG build than a modern day MG, which makes sense when you say it out loud of course but you really feel it in these kits. They build up fast, minimal panel lines and polycaps. Oh the polycaps. They won’t age well but for now they’re sturdy!
The Assault Shroud in this holds on surprisingly well EXCEPT! The front waist armor. This basicallly slides into two slots on the base front skirt armor. The issue with this that both skirts move independently so it Does Not stay on. So I cemented mine in lol probably would have been better if it attached to the crotch armor instead but oh well. If you want to modify the part to keep it removable maybe make the attach point there.
It also comes with Dry Transfer decals aside from the sticker kind. Which would be great but since you should Really topcoat the part after applying the decal I have to pass bc 1) the pollen rn is WILD and 2) I don’t really have a good space inside to let it dry and fume at the same time soo….later!
All in all a fun build! If you’re like me and like a solid MG that’s a quick build then you’ll enjoy this one a lot!

Shrouded Certainty final update
Tumblr media
Do these look like the faces of people who would joke about such things? NO April Fools here, the final four (4) chapters of Shrouded Certainty are now live on ao3 and you can find them by clicking here! Remember, this fic is rated Explicit, 18+ MDNI
To start from the beginning you can click here!
and a sneak peek:
“So…maybe I’m outta line but I don’t understand Naeva’s fucking problem” Mollie said as she tapped away on her console, “like in the beginning, sure, Bella had withheld some info and Naeva doesn’t like feeling out of the loop but it’s been like eight fucking months at this point and Bella has proved time and time again to be just what the Fleet needs. I’d think she’d be bragging to everyone in earshot that she’s the one who brought Bella in.”
“You’re using logic,” Delgado glanced over, “You can’t apply Logic to Naeva.”
“She’s jealous,” Thrasher said from his spot across the room, his voice barely audible, “feels threatened.”
Mollie said with raised eyebrow as she stared at her monitor, “Del, we got a guy coming in hot, hauling ass up the stairs to command. Docked with one of Estelle’s boy’s ships alone. Security feed is grainy but he looks terrified.”
Delgado stiffened as he slowly turned to look toward the doors. What happened?
They were still waiting for Estelle to return to the Key with no word back after the new orders were delivered. Why was only a single pirate returning with a ship that didn’t belong to him?
The terrified pirate in Neon street clothes skid to a stop in the middle of the lower level, his hands both up and out in front of him, open with fingers splayed. He dropped to his knees upon seeing Delgado, his cheeks wet with tears.
“Holy shit,” Mollie said under her breath from her station.
“Please, I came here as soon as I could get away, I didn’t help them, I never agreed with the orders, I’m not with them anymore,” the pirate ranted, his voice shaking, “Please, mercy.”

『願いよ響け』 - Lyrics & Translation
『願いよ響け』 is the name of the song that Malleus, Idia, and Azul perform together at the end of the Glorious Masquerade event. (The song title can be translated as "Let my wish resound!", but I've seen people in the EN side of the fandom have also been calling it "Make a Wish", so call it what you may.)
Below is my take at translating the lyrics! And I've also put some notes in my tags.
Tumblr media
夜明けに怯えて 幾度と願う
ひとりぼっちの空に別れと
愛の救いを
Fearing the dawn to come, I make my wish again and again
One wish to bid farewell to that lonely sky
And another for the salvation of love
祈りは遠く
紅蓮を照らして
My prayers, so far away
Shine down on that distant blaze of crimson
鐘よ響け 僕の願いを運んで
今日も温かな夢 高く手を伸ばして
Let the bells resound!
Let their echoes carry with them my heart's desires
Today, as well, I had that same warm dream
And now I lift up my hands, reaching out so high above
ああ もし許されるのなら
喜び 悲しみ 共に生きよう
Ahh, and if it's truly alright
Then let us go through life together, in joy and in sorrow
輝く人の声 満ちている笑顔
どうか僕に 光よ導け
The voices of the people shine, their faces brimming with smiles
I ask of you, O Light! Please, guide them to me!
焦がれてた素晴らしい朝へ
目覚めたら歩き出そう
僕の夢とともに
Once I awake, let us set forth together
Hand in hand with my dreams
Towards that glorious morning I’ve so longed for
鐘よ響け 僕の願いを運んで
今日も華やぐ街に 胸を踊らせてる
Let the bells resound!
Let their echoes carry with them my heart's desires
Today, as well, my heart leaps for joy
Here in this radiant city
ああ いま 美しく咲いた
喜び 悲しみ 皆で歌おう
Ah, and now it has bloomed so beautifully
In joy and in sorrow, let us all sing together
眩しく夢に見た 分かち合う愛を
どうか僕に 光よ導け
未来(あした)へ
O Light! Please, bring my love to me!
Oh, how it shone in my dreams, the love that we shared
And now onwards, to tomorrow
#my tl#twst#twisted wonderland#glorious masquerade#malleus draconia#azul ashengrotto#idia shroud#i've swapped the order of some of the lines to make them flow better in english just an fyi#i left 紅蓮 as crimson (well “blaze of crimson” so it makes sense in english) cause i dont think he's directly mentioning the flowers#rollo said the true identity of the calamity was lost to time and no one knows anymore what it was#they just know the town was “dyed bright red”#so i dont think the singer is directly saying crimson flowers or else that would kind of go against what we were told in game...#紅蓮 by itself means “bright red” or “crimson lotus” and the flowers in the game are referred to as 紅蓮の花 “crimson flowers”#it can also be used with reference to fire like 紅蓮の炎#so i choose to keep that line vague bc whatever he's talking about he seems to only be alluding to it rather than saying it by name#also in the 鐘よ響け 僕の願いを運んで lines i put “heart's desires” instead of “wish” to make it sound less awkward with the repeating w's#i asked my jp penpal what she thought the いま 美しく咲いた was in reference to but she also wasnt sure#she said he could be talking about the city or his wish or the joys and sorrows. so i left it vague but i lean towards it being the city#cause in the line before he says the city is 華やぐ which is like full of life/cheerful/brilliant#and 華 can often have a connotation that describes something that is flowerlike. something that is beautiful/graceful like a flower#so i think he's connecting bloom to 華やぐ and saying the city is radiant (like a flower) and now it's blooming#i went back and forth a lot over 喜び 悲しみ 共に生きよう. he could mean live together with our joys and sorrows#or we go through life together in joy and in sorrow#deuce said in mal's vignette the song was about the singer's hope of being able to meet a lot of people#and in the previous line ああ もし許されるのなら he's like if im permitted/allowed to do this so its something he thinks he needs permission to do#and considering quasi's story i felt it was more likely he's asking to walk through life alongside the people through good times and bad#cause in the movie a big part of his story is that frollo drills into quasi that he's not WORTHY of the people's attention and affection#so thats why i went with that interpretation#喜び 悲しみ 皆で歌おう is also unclear. could be sing of our joys and sorrows or sing in joy and sorrow#this is a typical jp song that omits a lot of particles verbs and prepositions so we fans just gotta make our best guesses unfortunately

It's game over for 2023. Time to talk about the best games I played during the year. I finished many enjoyable titles on various platforms, crossing genres and time to visit even decades old games. I finished a total of 38 games this past year. And because I apparently didn't have enough choice for devices to play all these games on, we got an Xbox Series X to our household on Christmas week.
Anyhow, here are the winners of my personal Game of the Year 2023 awards. *drumroll*
1st place: Vampire Survivors (PC)
My addictive substance of choice. Doesn't shine in the graphics department with modern tech. Doesn't try to impress with thought-provoking narrative. The incredibly simple yet satisfying gameplay however is engineered to perfection. A true masterclass of game design.
+ Infectiously fun, action-filled reverse bullet hell roguelike gameplay. Just one more run! + Bold artistic identity. + Humorous touch in character/enemy design and fun nods to other videogames. + Superb soundtrack. + Tons of quality content for an incredibly cheap price. Free updates and paid DLC with even more content. - The flashing effects can go a little overboard and cause discomfort. - Later stages of game can lag even decently powerful hardware.
See my posts about Vampire Survivors
2nd place: Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow (Wii U Virtual Console, originally on Game Boy Advance)
A classic Castlevania that holds up nicely even 20 years from release and on a big screen. With a bit more memorable music and a small quality of life improvement, Aria of Sorrow would have earned the coveted 5/5 stars in my book.
+ Balanced and fun gameplay with a good sense of progression. + Top tier level design with a concise map. + Nice art style in environments, sprites and character portraits. Great animation and enemy design. + Fitting music and audio. + Good story. - Lacks item to warp to last save room or outside castle.
See my posts about Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow
3rd place: Touhou Mystia's Izakaya (PC)
Chill vibes managing your restaurant, gathering ingredients and talking to characters by day turn into frantic cooking and serving action by night. This game got its recipe right.
+ Fun, rewarding gameplay loop mixing leisurely action and challenges testing your attention. + Enjoyable story with funny events. + Wonderfully cute pixel art. + Catchy music. + Lots of content for a low price. - Starts slow, even a bit boring in the beginning before you get special customers and unlock more recipes. - Final battle had annoying RNG. - English translation could use a little polish.
See my posts about Touhou Mystia's Izakaya
Honorable mention: Crimson Shroud (Nintendo 3DS)
This surprisingly challenging table-top RPG inspired game impressed me with its quality and satisfying gameplay. This is a hidden gem worth visiting.
+ Challenging gameplay with long and brutal battles make for a rewarding experience. + Good, well-written story with two endings. + Cool art direction with 3D models mimicking table-top RPG figurines, pretty illustrations. + Great music. + Game's length is just right to keep player invested. - Overall difficulty is higher than usual for JRPGs and Game Over wasn't a rare occurrence on my playthroughs. Slight frustration ensued due to having to retry the long battle from the beginning. - Confusing equipment UI (comparison of current vs new gear).
See my posts about Crimson Shroud
Honorable mention: Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective (Nintendo DS, played on 3DS)
Unique experience with tricky chain reaction puzzles and fantastic characters. Prominently fluid and amazing animations - I can't believe it's a Nintendo DS game! This is no trick - it's a treat.
+ Inventive gameplay and mechanics, perfect fit for touch screen. + Interesting story that definitely doesn't forget humor despite the grim subject. + Memorable characters (Cabanela and Missile were my favorites). + Awesome art style and marvelous animation quality. + Great music throughout the game. - I almost lost interest at some point and got impatient to finish the game. - I guessed one of the key plot twists but luckily that didn't put a dent on the ending.
See my posts about Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective
Honorable mention: Gears of War 2 (Xbox 360, played on Xbox Series X)
Entertaining cover shooter with varying missions. The game never had a boring moment and the length of the single player campaign was just right. I'm looking forward to playing Gears of War 3 next!
+ Fun gameplay that sets expectations for other shooters. + Interesting setting and story with some cool events. + Fun dialogue that made me chuckle many times. + Good music and great English voice acting. + The challenge on Normal difficulty was just right for me. - AI controlled companions got stuck occasionally, leaving you alone in dangerous enemy territory. - I didn't always understand the mission objectives in the hectic situations. - Cutscenes can't be skipped (thankfully this is not a Kojima game).
Honorable mention: Signalis (PC)
Atmospheric sci-fi survival horror paying homage to older games. Puzzles are different from usual and require attentive skill and logical thinking to solve. This game deserves a sequel.
+ Intriquing sci-fi story with an impactful ending (there are multiple endings too). + Great art direction, appealing PS1 era inspired retro graphics with skillfully crafted pixel art. I very much enjoyed the nod to Ghost in the Shell. + Unique, well-designed puzzles and good level design. + Great atmosphere. - A bit clunky combat. - Tiny inventory space forced me to backtrack more than I would have liked. - Annoying design choice to not include a map in a couple of areas.
See my posts about Signalis
Nominees for my personal Game of the Year 2023
Only games I have finished in 2023 have been included (looks like I played a lot of games starting with the letter T).
An Arcade Full of Cats (PC) Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney (3DS) Assassin's Creed: Revelations (PS3) Atelier Shallie: Alchemists of the Dusk Sea DX (Switch) Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow (Wii U Virtual Console - GBA) Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia (3DS) Crimson Shroud (3DS) Detective Pikachu Returns (Switch) Dordogne (PC) Fitness Boxing (Switch) Gears of War 2 (Xbox Series X - Xbox 360) Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective (3DS) Immortality (PC) Kuru Kuru Kururin (Wii U Virtual Console - GBA) Labyrinth of Refrain: Coven of Dusk (PC) Liberation Maiden (3DS) Need for Speed: Most Wanted U (Wii U) Piofiore: Fated Memories (Switch) Pokémon Art Academy (3DS) Pokémon Rumble World (3DS) Scorn (PC) Shadows Over Loathing (PC) Signalis (PC) Sticky Business (PC) Super Mario Bros. There are a number of things in Crimson Shroud I was kind of iffy about that put me off playing it, but now that I am I actually find I'm liking it quite a bit. The writing, art, and music are all very moody in a way that's familiar to me (Yasumi Matsuno + Basiscape, you know how it is lol, plus I think the guy who did the art took notes from Akihiko Yoshida) and while I originally found the tabletop aesthetic to be off-putting (your guys are always represented by little tabletop figurines, and dice that you physically roll with the stylus are a big part of the mechanics) over time it's really really growing on me. I think it's kinda cute ngl.
I feel like this is the type of game I would've been obsessed with if it had come out in the early 2000s and I'd played it then. Really weird, very stylistic, thick with lore for a relatively short game, not very well known, moody tone... Like it brings Summoner to mind, actually, which was a flop of an RPG that came out in the early 2000s that was also openly and heavily inspired by Dungeons & Dragons, but also I have a lot of fond memories of it lol. And that game was also very moody
Also you can totally tell this was intended to be a sequel to Vagrant Story originally, it wears its spiritual predecessor on its sleeve. It really feels like a journey through Lea Monde abstracted through figurines, dice, and dungeon maps. This might be heretical to say... but I'm kinda... enjoying it more than I was Vagrant Story, LMAO. I think for two reasons: 1. turn-based combat is more familiar to me, so I'm adapting to Crimson Shroud's mechanical depth much more quickly, and 2. the major female character in this game, Frea, is actually playable, and is your party's linchpin. Will always be lamenting Callo Merlose's demotion to NPC in vanilla Vagrant Story for game memory reasons u_u
The main dude is also growing on me unfortunately. "Giauque," the stupidest possible version of "Jack." I had my hackles up when he internally referred to Frea as a she-dog early on (shortly after she was revealed to be a member of an oppressed fantasy ethnic group, which like. I don't even want to get into all that shit right now, but it's the other reason I was put off by this game) but over time I think it's clear that was just a very poor way of demonstrating their usual dynamic, which is that he took Frea under his wing and likes her quite a bit, but portrays himself as a gruff, amoral lout, so he prefers to bicker instead of be effusive. The implication is that they're a bit like each other IMO, both too sharp-tongued for their own good
I also know a ton of spoilers so I'm paying lots of attention to Frea in the frame story... We'll have to see how it's handled, but I do like that the main antagonist of this game is a woman. So few games feature a woman as the primary villain, and even if they do, they find ways to blunt her impact (like Ultima in FFT, she's resurrected at the ass end of the story and then Ramza & co. kill her immediately), so I'm curious to see where Crimson Shroud will go with Abigail (an insane name for a villainess in a dark fantasy piece btw)
BASICALLY I think if CS was a fifty-hour game I might find it more exhausting, but since it barely hits twenty if you're taking your time, I'm a lot more invigorated by it. The short runtime works in its favor IMO.

𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲: After you gave birth to your first daughter, Miguel spends the night admiring the changes that motherhood has done to your body.
Tumblr media
The apartment finally hushed after hours of crying and whining. You finally put your baby to sleep, rocking her gently in your arms.
You gently placed her in the crib, taking one quick glance at her peaceful expression. A testimony of your growing family and your shared love with Miguel.
Her cheeks were plump, and she had crimson eyes and talons that mirrored her father’s features. However, she didn’t have the ability to control when they appeared— usually she was excited or agitated— so you would often have to give her mittens in public.
You checked the baby camera was fitted properly and the temperature of the room was okay before dimming the lights and exiting the nursery quietly.
There was a sense of solace that shrouded you as you made your way to the bedroom.
It had been two whole days you were home alone while Miguel was probably in another dimension. It was hard to predict when he'd come back home and the longer he was out, the more your heart yearned.
But the feeling quickly vanished as you saw a familiar figure outside your bedroom window.
Miguel swung into the bedroom balcony with his web before opening the balcony door to step inside. He had his full suit on but as soon as he was inside the bedroom, his mask fizzled out.
It had become a routine for him to use the balcony to get in the apartment rather than the front door to avoid getting spotted.
He ran a hand over his disheveled hair before his expression softened when he saw you. You must’ve looked exhausted because he was approaching you with caution.
“Hey you…” you closed the distance between the two of you and wrapped your arms around him. He wrapped his arms around your waist and pulled you closer.
He leaned in to kiss you deeply, making up for all those hours you were separated.
He pulled back from the kiss while still keeping his arms around you. “Is she sleeping?”
“Yeah she’s asleep. Do you wanna see her?”
“In a bit,” he said before lifting you up in his arms briefly and placing you on the bed.
This caught you by surprise.
“Mig…”
You didn’t expect him to be this handsy with you as soon as he came home. But you weren’t complaining.
“You look tired, amor. I hate leaving you alone for so long,” He said, a tenderness in his voice. His hands ran over the thighs, feeling every inch like it was his first time touching you.
“It’s all part of duty though, right? I know you always come back.” You placed a soft kiss on his cheek, sealing your words.
“I missed you. Do you have any idea how badly I wanted to feel you.” He murmured, his lips grazed over the curve of your neck.
You could feel his hands hiking up under your shirt before removing it completely. His neediness, as well as his swift movements, added to your heightened libido.
“I missed you too Mig,”
You weren't wearing a bra so your breasts, that were swollen with milk, bounced with every movement you made.
“So full…” he kissed along your chest, deliberately avoiding the nipple while caressing your sides. He couldn’t get enough of you and being separated from you for this long only made him more desperate for your presence.
“Are you gonna start rambling about how a woman produces milk?” You arched your brow inquisitively when you noticed him inspecting your breasts. You would be lying if you said you didn’t miss his biology rants.
Miguel didn’t talk much unless he needed to, but when he did, you would cherish every word that uttered from his mouth.
“I am now…” he swiped his thumb over one of your nipples, making you hiss. You were more sensitive now so you were very responsive to his minimal touches.
“Your body has developed glands and structures inside of your breast which are full of milk ducts.” As he explained this to you, some of the milk seeped out from your nipples. You shuddered in embarrassment.
“I’m sorry…that happens sometimes. I should’ve pumped out the milk before…” You said apologetically. You tried to slip off his grasp but he had a tight hold on you.
“What a mess…” he commented before giving your breast a gentle squeeze, watching more of your milk leaking down his hands.
Heat reached your cheeks as you noticed the way he was staring at the milk in fascinating.
You hissed again from his grip he had on your breast. You knew you had been hyper lactating but it was hard to predict when the milk would leak out like this.
Miguel moved his hands from your breast and over to his mouth and lapped up the milk that spilled over his knuckles.
You felt a wetness pool your panties as you watched him taste your milk. There was something enticing watching your husband drinking your milk straight from your body.
He then leaned into your breast again and inhaled your scent deeply. “We can’t let this go to waste,”
You didn’t need to think too deeply about what he meant.
Before you could even begin to speak, he licked one of your nipples, cleaning off the mess before latching his mouth around it.
The sudden sensation made you arch your back further into his mouth. You gripped onto his broad arms as he continued to suckle on your breast.
You soaked in the way he was completely indulging in your milk, his cheeks hollowing in with each suck.
You could feel your milk seeping through your nipples and into his mouth as he took his fill greedily.
After a while he released your nipple, letting out a small sigh of satisfaction. His mouth was slightly parted and his eyes were half-lidded.
You were too stunned by what had just happened and the words lodged in your throat. Miguel took your silence as an opportunity to reach for your lips and kissed you passionately.
You could taste the sweetness of your own milk from his mouth as he swiped his tongue over your lips. He pulled away, leaving you dazed.
“Did you enjoy that?” You finally asked.
“I did, we should do that more often,” The corner of his lips curved up. “But tell me, what hormones are responsible for lactation, hm?”
Again, he was asking a question and expecting an answer from you when you were dizzy with bliss and could barely speak.
It was definitely on purpose because it amused him how much of a mess he made out of you.
You tried to process his question and articulate an answer, even though you knew it was only going to feed into his ego.
“Hm…prolactin…oxytocin…” you breathed.
A grin formed on his lips, both from the state you were in and the satisfied answer you gave.
“My sweet and clever wife,”
His praise made your stomach flutter.
He hands reached over to the waist to remove your pants along with your panties, leaving you bare on the bed. As you lied on your back, you could feel his dick pressing against your clit through the digital suit as he crept closer.
He tapped on his watch and his suit pixelated away, revealing his chiseled body and his throbbing cock. The precum that was seeping from the tip was too tempting. But you forced yourself to stay grounded before you lost control in your lust.
“Miguel, I’m not on anything,” your voice was sharp with caution.
It had been too long since you both did anything intimate. Even during your pregnancy, you were focused primarily on your health and making sure your pregnancy went smoothly.
But as much as you yearned to feel Miguel inside you and the friction from his dick, you were smart enough to hold back.
You knew that you were more fertile after you gave birth, with an increased level of oestrogen, making you more susceptible to get pregnant again.
The last thing you wanted was an unexpected pregnancy when your hands were already full looking after your 5-month-old daughter.
Miguel kept his gaze at you. “You are breastfeeding,”
Your clit was throbbing, desperate for his touch. But you weren’t going to cave in.
“Better to be safe than sorry.”
Miguel lowered himself to reach for your thighs and dipped his head lower until he was facing between your legs. All you could focus on now was his exhales fanning on your soaked cunt.
“I guess we could find an alternative tonight…”
You couldn’t fully process his statement before you felt his tongue drag over your folds. The sudden contact made you clamp your legs around his head.
You reached over and ran your hands over his hair.
He knew that area was more delicate now after you gave birth. You could feel him trying to be gentle with you while eating you out.
It made your heart stutter.
But even if he was giving you a soft treatment, your senses were still firing and you could feel heat building up in your core.
“Miguel…” you moaned lowly.
He hummed against your core in response, sending a tantalising vibration through your spine.
He was trying not to flicker his tongue too deep into your cunt to avoid hurting you. Every juice that was leaking from you was quickly licked off by him.
Between your thighs, you could see him looking back up at you, watching your reaction while drinking up his fill of you and coaxing your orgasm.
It’s been a while since your pussy had any attention, causing you to be pent up with tension.
You came sooner than you anticipated, most likely from how sensitive you were. You arched your back with a long moan. Everything that squirted from your cunt was licked off from his tongue.
You were limp on the sheets, drenched in the afterglow. Your legs released their grip around Miguel's head as he pulled himself away from you. He wiped his mouth with the back of his hand.
There was a sudden sound of crying coming from the next room. Your daughter had woken up.
Miguel got himself off the bed. “I’ll get her, you stay.”
You nodded mutely, giving him the chance to bond with your daughter after two days of being without her.
He left the room but not before putting his sweat pants on. You, on the other hand, were left on the bed to catch your breath.

I completed Crimson Shroud (second playthrough) on Nintendo 3DS yesterday. I'm so glad I bought this game before the eShop shut down! It truly exceeded my expectations and I enjoyed my time with it.
"This is a tale of those who would quest for this origin of miracles: the Crimson Shroud. May God have mercy on their souls." The story follows a young mercenary Giauque and his partners, Lippi and Frea. The group is sent to ancient palace ground dungeons - now occupied by goblins and undead - to find a missing person and an old book. The location is also rumoured to house a source of powerful magic, the "original gift" called Crimson Shroud which has attracted people through the ages only for them to meet their demise in the dangerous dungeons. I quite liked the characters and their banter during their quest.
The story is good and I was eager to find out what's going to happen in it. There's a good amount of darker content or what say you about the game's depiction on how to kill a heretic: "Lead is poured into the eyes, robbing sight, that the truth might be buried in darkness. The fingers and toes are crushed, that the punished will know they are not to return to this world."
The game features two different endings. The second ending can be accessed when clearing New game+ and surviving an optional boss fight. I found the first ending much more intriquing than the second one but your mileage may vary.
Crimson Shroud's visuals are rather unique with 3D models of characters and opponents mimicking table-top pieces. There's also striking illustrations sprinkled into the story segments. You may recognize the art style as the artist has worked on games like Vagrant Story and Final Fantasy XII. Music is by Hitoshi Sakimoto (Final Fantasy XII, Tactics Ogre) and sounds superb.
The gameplay combines traditional turn-based combat with elements from table-top role-playing games. You roll dice to determine the outcome of some things like buffs and debuffs - get unlucky and your skill fails. I had never played a table-top RPG in my life and was uncertain whether I'd like the gameplay. I ended up loving it!
The game is clearly more challenging than most JRPGs I've played. Game Over wasn't a rare occurrence during my two playthroughs. The battles can take a long time and paying attention to what happens is important and managing buffs and debuffs is vital to your success. You can't grind levels - actually the characters do not even have levels. You grow stronger by finding better gear which you can also upgrade. But there's a catch: you need an identical piece of gear in addition to upgrade material to meld the equipment into a stronger version. The characters do gain skills at set moments in the game and gear may also have skills attached to them. You can find skill/spell scrolls that you can use to teach new skills to your party members. But again, there's a catch: the skill will be attached to a piece of gear and you'll lose it if you replace the gear. There are no shops to purchase healing items or gear from, you need to find it all as monster drops.
You recover MP only during battle and recovery items can only be used during battles. It doesn't make things any easier that there seems to be a rather limited amount of encounters and traversing the dungeon map drains your MP. I found myself in sticky situations more than once when my characters were low on MP and I ran into an ambush or a boss fight. Luckily the party's HP is fully replenished after battle.
The only complaint I can think of is that the UI for gear was confusing when comparing a new piece of equipment to currently equipped one. The blue and red numbers were hard to decipher and I never understood them, so I had to look at both the equipments' base stats separately to decide which one is better.
Crimson Shroud is quality stuff and it's refreshingly short. My first playthrough took just a bit under 10 hours, after two playthroughs my save file displayed 26 h of playtime combined. I recommend the game to anyone who isn't afraid of reading text and enjoys turn-based combat.
