Here's part 2 to my 2023 crochet recap!
Tumblr media
Mittens I made for someone's baby sister. I made similar ones in blue for the kid I babysit sometimes
May? I think may.
~ • ~
Tumblr media
My first ever actual clothing item, a crochet shrug! (Yes it's on my matress.)
This was made around the end of May for my best friend, and she loved it (she looks amazing in it)
~ • ~
Tumblr media
Cat ear beanie with ruffled brim rather than folded, for the same friend that the shrug was for. One of her favourites ^^
July-August, I believe, but I'm really not positive
~ • ~
Tumblr media
A maple leaf because, fun fact, I love maple leaves, and have been wanting to make one for ages, and finally got the thread yarn to make it. It didn't turn out exactly how I'd hoped, but I still think it's cute ^^
About August timeframe
~ • ~
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Potholders, hot pads, whatever you call them, things that you can put a hot pan on so it doesn't burn your table. I made three colour variations of circles and squares
June-July
~ • ~
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Keychains! My first time actually making keychains, and they turned out pretty well! The jellyfish was a commission (they loved it!) And the mushrooms were based off of me and my best friend, because my hair was split dyed, and she wanted one that would be pink because part of her hair is pink
All made in July-August
~ • ~
Tumblr media
Two pairs of dragon scale fingerless gloves. I'd shared the colourful ones before, but not the gray ones, but both pairs have scales on only one side so that they're still usable.
January-February?
~ • ~
Tumblr media
I made a bunch of these, mesh bucket hats, while I was at a camp, intending on selling them and having them be cheaper since they're mesh. They didn't sell, but they look pretty cool!
July ^^
I'm gonna have to make another part oh goodness I'm so sorry

Who needs kitschy kitchen shit???
Tumblr media
I've uploaded the entire booklet for anyone who wants it. No charge, just have fun! Sorry about the terrifying corn man. There's nothing I can do about him.
Enterprise became Lily's Sugar and Cream, so any of their dishcloth yarns will work perfectly.
Quick Tip: The booklet says to use a 2mm hook unless specified. This is absolutely stupid. Your hands will fall off. Use a 3.5mm. You'll get the tight gauge, and the items will only be about an inch larger. By my estimation, it adds about 20-30 yards for any main color, which is a fair swap for being able to use your hands when you're done.

I completed my first project!! :D
Nothing too crazy. Literally just a square potholder out of single stitches. But it's mine and I did it!!
Tumblr media
Details under the cut:
The project took me about 5 hours total. Maybe a bit less. It's 30 stitches by 31 rows. I used single stitches the whole way but used a double for rows 5 and 27 to add a little extra flair. :)
I'm really happy with how it turned out. I mean sure it keeps trying to curl up into itself. But I did manage to pull off a square shape which was actually really tricky! Especially trying to gauge when to throw in the second double row
The entire time it felt like it was way too short. And it didn't help that the bottom row was stretched to hell. But I started trying out folding it over to test it, along with measuring across the middle, which helped a lot.
This'll probably end up being a potholder or something lol. But I had a lot of fun making it :)
Wips:

@eggie-o and I decided to try taking apart goodwill sweaters for the yarn, and 8 dollars for what has to be 4 LARGE skeins of cotton yarn is a Very good deal, so now I have vast amounts of cotton yarn to figure out what to do with. If anyone has any ideas, let me know.

Needed a quick easy project to take a break from the big ones I’ve got going on. This is allegedly a potholder, dunno if I’ll bother using it for that. It’s cute and was only mildly annoying doing single crochet. Could be a fun element in a larger project?

I used a thermal stitch to make a nice pair of potholder pads. I was so pleased by the weight of the fabric and the ease of crocheting the stitch that I decided to use crochet the blanket I haven't finished this way! So far, the yarn is working up wonderfully and I'm looking forward to a heavy cozy blanket with this old cotton yarn c:

💚🌿🍓💖 for the crafting ask?
💚 How long have you been crafting and how did you get started?
Oh, I don't know. I've always crafted in one way or another, as long as I can remember. My family is crafty, and crafting helped manage my ADHD, so if I showed interest in a craft, they would probably help me get the supplies and do it, if they could afford it.
🌿 What tips would you give a beginner? What is something you wish you had know when you started?
Don't be ashamed of using kits and walking in at the shallow end. There's depth to be explored, yes, but don't feel pressured to make your first project a massive blanket full of novelty stitches. A scarf is fine. And knitting looms completely count as knitting.
As for having known when I started? I was a kid, I was having fun. There's not a lot that I would change about my crafting history. Maybe I would try to counsel myself that potholder hats are never going to take off, but I was a stubborn kid and would probably have ignored the advice, anyway.
🍓 Do you have a dream project? What would you craft if you had infinite time and money?
I'm very much a "get-an-idea-in-my-head-and-do-it" crafter. I think my cloak probably fell under a "dream project" category, but I made it ten years ago, so eh.
💖 Which one of your creations are you the proudest? Show off!
My cloak, hands down. https://www.tiktok.com/@fairytalearista/video/7028356335557152046
Unfortunately, the yarn I used to make it is long-since out of production, so my attempts since have not come out as well, though. https://www.tiktok.com/@fairytalearista/video/7026153620924091694
I'm also pretty chuffed with the sword sheath I made last week! https://www.tiktok.com/@fairytalearista/video/7116249106560847150 https://www.tiktok.com/@fairytalearista/video/7116206506734914858
