Welp my dumbass decided to make Wednesday pokemon trainer cards instead of updating my WIPs. Which I'm going to do after I post this🤣

I'm not fully happy about Tyler, eugene, and the xaviers teams. Those may change.

Almost everyone always gets a legendary/mythical.

I know literally no one will read this or care. But I figured I could post it anyway.

I gave her Skorupi because of Nero, so he's her partner.

Gliscor because he's just a beast of a mon and reminds me of a scorpion/bat that fits Wednesday's dark theme. Tyler had given this to her as a present. On their first anniversary, it immediately became a favorite.

Corviknight because Wednesday is referred to as the Raven, and he just seems like the most raven mon (even though he's a crow). Wednesday found this pokemon back when it was a Rookiedee. It had fallen out of its nest. Instead of feeding it to her mother's Pyroar, she kept it.

Hydreigon because he's just a dark dragon, and I feel like he fits Wednesday's style. Wednesday had found him as a deino, the poor blind Dino had injured himself. She decided to take him in and raise him to become a terrifying dragon.

Dusknoir because he's a big scary ghost that eats souls in his chest. Out of all the ghost types, i feel like this one fits Wednesday the most. This mon snuck up on Wednesday and followed her throughout a haunted graveyard, not giving up until she caught him.

It was between Giratina (the underworld/antimatter legend) or Yveltal. Her legend I chose is Yveltal, He's the legendary of Death, basically destroying everything in sight.

(I feel bad for doing this to Tyler)

His partner - Cubone - because they both lost their moms. Cubone wears his mothers dead skull on his head. Tyler's mother had given this to him just before she passed.

(Might replace.) Bewear - literally because Tyler is sweet & adorable on the outside, but on the inside, he's hiding a dangerous monster, just like bewear.

Mimikyu - because the creature inside the suit just wants to be loved, just like Tyler. So he hides behind a suit made up of a beloved pokemon. But everytime it's trainer looks underneath the suit, they die.

Scovillian - because it's a funny play on Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde. Two faces, two different personalities.

Garchomp - Because this mon is anger filled and very hard to tame also very powerful. Kinda reminds me of the hyde.

His legend is Mewtwo. A legend made by humans and hates humanity. Reminds me of Tyler's tragic past, hating others who don't understand what he's been through.

Her partner is a shiny Spheal - Honestly, I just feel like Enid would love every single pokemon that's adorable.

Shiny) Politoad because he's just a very happy frog, and I feel like it matches. It Enids a very bubbly personality.

Arcanine - i feel like even though it's a big scary dog, she loves it because it's Fluffy and loyal. Just like Enid.

Lycanroc (Day form) just a little nod to her wolf form.

Dragonair - Honestly, it's just a beautiful mid evo that I feel like Enid would love

And her legend is Mew. It's just a cute, sweet cat that has all the DNA of each pokemon. Something I think Enid would take care of and love.

So Ajax's starter is Ivysaur - because the bulbasaur line is famous for smoking grass

Ekans because of Ajax being a Gorgon and his little snakes poke their heads out sometimes.

Slowbro because it seems like a good pokemon to get high with.

Hisuian Typhlosion because he just looks like a depressed cool boy like my baby Ajax.

Noivern - because I just see Ajax being the chill guy at parties and noiverns ears remind me of speakers.

His legend is a shiny Rayquaza just because he's a giant space snek noodle🤣

Eugene's starter is a shiny caterpie, figured he'd just be a bug type trainee.

Beedrill - because of his powers to control bees.

Heracross- same as the caterpie. Just figured he'd have a bug army.

Dewpider because he's just an adorable bean like Eugene.

Appletun because I just feel like he'd love chunky pokemon. Because chunky pokemon are the best.

wobbuffet because its a psychic pokemon and it's insane ability to use counter and I feel like Eugene would need a happy mon to keep him company.

Yes Eugene doesn't get a legend. Just couldn't find one that fit.

Her partner being Primarina - has to do with her being a siren outcast. Her partner looks like a mermaid and sings like sirens and mermaids are known for.

Being the popular girl at school, I'd imagine she'd have tons of beautiful pokemon. A florges. Being a bouquet of flowers fits that perfectly

Again, Hatterene fits the popular girl status perfectly. Another beautiful fairy type to add to Bianca's team

Bianca would also have a shiny Altaria, it being her pride since it's a rare golden color.

Beautifly - a rare evolution of Wurmple, being very beautiful & every time it flaps its wings, sparkly pollen falls with each flap.

I chose Meloetta fighting form for her mythical pokemon. It has unique singing abilities, and being strong but beautiful would fit Bianca perfectly.

Xavier surprisingly got a card. I didn't want to download a picture of him into my phone so he gets no picture.

He gets a shiny muk as his partner. Because he looks like throw up. Just like how I feel about Xaviers character.

He gets an Exeggutor because it's derpy in a stupid way🤣

Grafaiai because he's an artist.

Garbordor - because it's a pokemon made of trash.

Xavier does get a legend. But it's the worst one. He gets regice because it's a trash legend.🤣

Aya Jumpscare

I'm not even CLOSE to Aya's run being done, but fuck you, I have her whole team planned so fuck it.

While I know Corviknight is a raven and not a crow, I feel like Corviknight is a better fit for her vibe than Murkrow or Honchkrow. It's use in public transportation makes it feel fitting for her and I don't know why. (Also this line is gonna get a Tengu varient in gensokai =D!)

Watchog is a very observant creature, and I think that checks out for Aya. The Watchog is used to help her catch the biggest scoops!

Decidueye is partially here because this team was marginally born of a playthrough, so a Starter is here. It does help that it's a bird with autumn colors.

Shiftree is a tengu. I give the tengu's this line. It very well could be replaced with a Nuzleaf. Probably should actually given the tengu caste system. Oh well.

Aya's thing is being REALLY fast. Aya is not a character who would have a legendary, so the choices get broken down too electrode, ninjask, crobat and accelgor. Electrode and Crobat just don't feel right (plus, her having a ninja pokemon felt better). Y'all democratically decided to give her an Accelgor, which is good because GOD that is my preferred option.

Kinda lame to end on Pelipper but still. Aya is a journalist who writes a newspaper, and I feel like I commonly see the idea she delivers her own papers (because she's so ungodly fast). So Pelipper is here because it's THE mail carrier Pokemon thanks to Mystery Dungeon.

Over more than an hour later this is more ‘crow comments on almost every new pokemon, oops’. I am passionate about cool designs... I didn’t mean to come for bogleech’s throne!

Under spoiler tag because I was lucky to play without having been spoiled on ANY of them and I want to keep that experience, total spoilers ahead.....

I was so annoyed the cute grass kitty immediatly became bipedal, but I really do dig the whole line, even the last one. The base is SO cute I LOVE kitty and being a sort of bandit and then a magician is cool. Especially enjoy how the final form is bipedal but not THAT humanoid- it’s a neutral body rather than being uncomfortably curvy or gendered. Also as I look at it: final form kinda is a lot like how I draw my eye deers in terms of “fluffy pastel body, long skinny darker legs”

I’m so sorry they did this to the duck. I’M SO SORRY. the duck was cute and then the middle is ugly and the final.... in battle usually the tail is extended and it’s obviously a ‘festivale’ thing, but it’s so unsettling. I hate how human it is, it’s dancing.... I hate this creature and for it to be a STARTER feels so unfair. who okay’d it.

I always loved dunspace as a kid playing gold silver, even tho it was useless. It was so mystifying looking and... odd. It was the pokemon that really most felt like a cryptic mystery of a being, you know? Like what the hell IS it? I’ve learned since it’s like... Tsuchinoko, maybe. But for it to FINALLY have an evolution that is almost entirely identical is really funny to me. Yep. That sure is just dunsparce. I mean. Dudunsparce. It’d have been cool for him to suddenly be a giant badass snake monster but this is better

Okay two off: TaROUNtula is adorbs and his evolution sucks. a little yarn ball spider with a kinda dopey face is really cute and then he turns into... way too dude shaped and really unappealing. He doesn’t look much like his pre-form and loses all the charm. A spider with a spindle it uses to make traps is great but why this??

Dolliv is super super cute. I love the many grass and bug pokemon that are just ‘cute girls’. I don’t like humanoid pokemon, but a lot of them are more stylised human than bordering on uncanny, and they look cute and fun. Dolliv works with her theme perfectly and is extremely cute. But man I was really REALLY happy to see Arboliva !! She’s funky and stylish in a different way. Sure, we could have another Tsureena line, where the end is basically a plant ginjinka gal, but while still hhumanoid Arboliva is way funkier. She usually is in a wreath shape too to better show off her design. I love her colour pallete too. She feels like something I’d make....

how can you not love this little face. His weird metal collar and his funky arms that he usually stows. Those eyes tho. He’s so cute and simple.

I wouldn’t normally like anything about this design. Like, it’s fine, but very very simple and nothing screams pokemon about it. But extra shoutout: they are VERY funny. The names are both great (Maushold is one of the few times I sensibly chuckle at a pun name) and the fact they almost always evolve when you’re not looking- and their evolution is having children- is great. I was worried it was a glitch but I hope (and believe) it’s on purpose. You one day look and OH SHIT! THEY HAD CHILDREN. I thought I’d gone insane for a moment and missed it, 10/10 experience I carried this couple in my bag and they gave birth without telling me

I know birds are... hard. because they’re birds. But what is WRONg with the birds this gen? I don’t despise any of them, but they’re the most Bird Birds I’ve ever seen. The flamingo is litterally a flamingo full stop. The stork is mostly a stork, the weird flesh sack it carries creeps me out and without it it’s. Just A Stork?! Wattrel as a seabird is Fine as a first evolution, but it’s evolve really bores me. And Squawkabilly is a nice pun and most pokemon looking, but still very plain. He has four plumages and yet who will care? He also so clearly needs an evolution to lean harder on the theme.

Hehe........ crab. I love giant enemy crab. He’s very charming. Eeriely robotic. The idea of him as an ambush predator is cool, I wish in game he actually WOULD blend in and strike you!

I didn’t like the first evo at all but he’s here for context, because once I evolved him I was enamoured. Just like minecraft......... but really, a blocky, salt construct is cool. I love his colours on the evo while the middle stage looks like a sweet little dude.

his mini pic isn’t the best, so here’s him better. Not normally my type of poke at ALL but she’s just really charming to me. Big blocks. Love the sediment layer ombre.

His little image isn’t very clear. This rock/poison flower.... what is he? A crystal that looks like a flower but isn’t. I really don’t know what is the inspiration beyond just ‘crystal-ish flower’, but he looks both very futuristic and like some prehistoric plant! The strange little eyes and the transparent cone at the front add to the mystery.

I don’t think I LIKE Shroodle but it’s hard to hate those empty eyes. I raised one for ages because I HAD to know what he was. A crocodile of some sort was my bet. Apparently it’s a ‘mouse’ which is then more confusing when it turns into a monkey. I think on reflection he might be designed on a spray paint can... his evo is a grafiti monkey, and he has a long shiny body with a black cap, with a tuft of paintbrush like hair! but he’s def not a monkey.

Grafaiai tho is a very cool design. I hate monkeys and apes but a lemur can stay, it has a cool design and colors and I really enjoy the wide glossy eyes.

this one was just an insant win for most everyone. Bread dog! And then he gets BAKED! he’s really cute and I definitely called he’d be a dash-bun before he evolved

This old ass dog....... it’s not just that he has a very endearing story role but that helps. He’s nothing really too special, but he has such sweet eyes and really captures the feeling of a fking old ass dog....... like this is a dog that was MADE to lay on the living room floor for hours and grumble in his sleep!!

I hate gimmighoul!!!!!! AAA!!! No, seriously, what is up with this guy? Without the chest it looks like... a sentai...? I’ve never been a fan in gen of power rangers or super sentai designs anyways but it’s my best guess for what this bastard is. The base version vaguely also makes me think cockroach, but sadly needs to be 300% more cockroach. The chest version would be fun- pokemon has mimics but not the classic treasure chest!- except... he keeps poking his stupid head out, which doesn’t at all bring to mind a mimic! The chest form is indeed just the bastard in a box, no unique changes.

THEN THE EVOLUTION.... who the hell is this roadside used car lot advertising man and why does he make me look for so many of his stupid children to earn the right to hate him? This design is so confusing for me. What is he? Bad. His pokedex entry tells me he’s 1000 stacked coins but looks more like a bullet.

god he does resemble like a 90s ad campaign to appeal to the youth and get them to stop smoking huh. But really, for the amount of annoying effort and time it takes to get him, he is not worth it at all. Horrendous thing. Stupid thing. AAA. aaa.

Seriously, I never liked gimmeghoul but I definitely imagined a fitting final form would be way bigger on the ‘treasure’ theme. He has a chest form and you collect coins- imagine if he was a riff on a treasure hoard instead! A long serpant busting through a treasure box covered in coins, a mimic who hides as a great hoard barely poking out, a centipede with coins as armor....

Okay, I played violet, so the past pokemon I didn’t get to see. On beating the main story I decided to look finally at the full dex so I could see all the version exclusives. I quite enjoy them, and while I liked violet’s designs old pokemon exclusives/legend more the ancient pokemon are nicer than the robots.. because the robots gimmick is continously the same ‘a pokemon but robot’.

This jigglypuff is very funny to me. She’s kinda just a joke of ‘cute jigglypuff but with little fangs’ but I can’t resist her charms.

Also^ I think pokemon doesn’t know how long ONE BILLION YEARS is.

Admittedly she’s a very plain riff on misdreveous, but I’ve always liked misdreaveous and she looks neat. I like her spikes, not sure why she has one green wing arm. It’s nice the pearl necklace evolved early imao

Volcarona is such a lovely pretty moth, and this version is super cool. I love how they tweaked with her regular features and made her so similar but so new. It’s just a SUPER cool bug and I really really love her

So salamance might be my fav pokemon ever by childhood bias: Ruby was a very dear game and I raised a salamance from a bagon up to level 100! Then I kept the same salamance and transferred him between games, up to Platinum. I love that weird, fat dragon.... he’s a popular pokemon, so has had a lot of extra forms, and they all suck

Salamance is a brightly coloured (but teal and pale red not the godawful tones of his mega) fat dragon. I keep saying fat but someone has to remind Pokemon. He’s a big and solid boy, but mega evo takes away that (and his arms) and makes him this super tacky bizarre monstrocity. Now we have Roaring Moon....

What is this? The idea of a feathery funky salamance is great, I appreciate even it resembles the mega evolution since gimicks are lately just one generation then forgotten. But his body shape and colors are so odd and messy. He looks really thrown together with a few basic good ideas that are completely not working!

TREAT SALAMANCE BETTER

I have really no strong feelings on the robot pokemon, meanwhile. They... look cool enough, ish. They’re robots that look like other pokemon. The designs really don’t do anything crazy interesting though, even tho they make changes it’s nothing radical. I only put Iron Hands here because I want you to know in a lore book you can find, it’s said Iron Hands is maybe a cyborg, not a pokemon, and might have a living person in there somehow. That weirds me out.

I definitely do wish the techno future pokemon did more though! Instead of just being ‘robot very similar to other pokemon’, it feels we’re missing out on ‘more evolved’ versions of pokemon or robot-flesh mixes. My immediate pitch for a more evolved (in IRL biology) pokemon from the future? An extremely fierce magicarp that has finally become strong! Or a bagon that has skipped needing to be salamance and has adapted wings of its own! There’s so much potential to look at odd pokemon and imagine how they might adapt over years of natural evolution. You also could do robo-flesh hybrids as said, where I have no exact ideas but something like... A combee that has adapted to work with nanorobots in a swarm? Hell, put magicarp in a mechasuit and say in the future magicarp has learned to psychically build mecha suits. Why not.

okay, she’s pretty cool tho. I def like to see gardevoir/gallade fusion one, who def makes the most bold changes to the design too (well, I guess iron treads is nothing like donaphan REALLY, but...). Haters gonna hate her nonbinary girl swag. Glad to see in the far future we’ve finally ended gender. Etc etc.

The ruinous legends are super, super cool designs. All of them are some of the TOP creature designs I’ve seen in ages tbh. I haven’t gotten in game to unlocking them or looked if they have lore (I hope there’s a lot of lore, mysterious ruinous beads sealed by ominous swords and giant doors is sick but I want more). Each is based on a cursed object that is so full of a negative emotion it has become tied to a pokemon and sealed away. GREAT STUFF.

Anyways, love this totemic beast and the big ancient cracked blood sacrifice bowl on their head. And yes, it’s totally a blood sacrifice pokemon: it’s linked to fear, as the bowl was said to have been used in ancient rituals and evoked such strong fear it became a horrible creature.

This guy minus the sword would fit in pretty well as a regular pokemon, admittedly. I find her colours really pleasing. The sword adds a bit more of that ‘legendary’ flair but does look a bit awkward impaled like that. But no, I really enjoy him.

OMG OMG OMG! AAA!!!! LOOK!!!!!

I am not a slug person (I am actually terrified of slugs irl) but. I loveeee this design. It’s clever (look at the both eyestalks and the false lead face) and extremely themeatic, with a great colour pallette. This thing screams spooky nature spirit in every way.

Though my least fav I felt I should throw in all four special legends. Plus, nothing about them is bad. I find the eyes rather awkward but they do invoke a bulged eyed goldfish. All four legends are based on cursed objects, so this feels like an okay way to add the beads to the fish... but not my fav. I do enjoy tho his patterns on his body. They’re just very stylish.

The box legends... are okay in their battle forms. I didn’t expect to really like them, but the writing is good and I really loved my robot motorcycle dragon by the end.

they’re far more appealing and charming to me in their ‘low power’ mode, which is what they are for most of the game. It’s nice to go ‘oho! badass battle time!’ but, meh. The more animal funky little guy form who loves sandwiches is better.

She’s a bit funny looking but really nice. She’s a cute little... something. I again am fine with human shaped pokemon when they’re still monsters, not people, not overly sexy people. Her middle stage is really cute to me as a sort of little knight, and then her last stage gives her adorable hair and a giant hammer. Classic design trope, but I love it! She’s cute and small but extremely strong and fun. I enjoy that her pokedex entry tells us she’s a BANDIT, not a blacksmith-knight.

The version exclusive branching knight evolve really feels like it should have been in sword shield, huh? But even tho it’s not normally the type I like... I am not immune to cool cursed knight with violet flames. he’s edgy and cool and fun, and I think perfectly balances between simplicity and very detailed- his design doesn’t look cluttered to me at all despite how complex it is!

I was so psyched to see him on my radar and go ‘is that a fckin tentacool with two silly legs’ and it was. These guys really as just fun to watch move. Toescruel hops! I’m not sure there’s much that exciting about them, but that’s okay. They’re simply and funny

honestly, I was never a wooper fan and I’m still not, but this one is 100% better than quaqsire. he’s better than most things.

Krenko’s Guide to Pokemon: Totodile Line

He’s just so happy to meat you!

DESIGN:

It’s a crocodile. It’s a cute, bipedal crocodile, sure, but it’s a crocodile. The adorable bipedal crocodile shows up all over the place. I got one after seeing Cathy Rigby’s Peter Pan. The main Digimon, Agumon, looks like this. The coloring is different, sure, but it’s blue because it’s a water type. And water crocodile isn’t even an interesting conversation. You’d expect a crocodile to be a water type. All that said, I love this little guy. There’s a general charm and cuteness to him that Pokemon are really good at, and even though I don’t consider his design very inspired, I do like it.

Croconaw is much more interesting. Croconaw stands upright, with a chubby belly, and appears as much like a dinosaur as a crocodile. Also, the pattern on its belly, while looking real and reasonable, resembles a simple fur, giving it a prehistoric look as both caveman and dinosaur at once. The scale at the end of the tail sticking up both clearly calls attention to the Stegosaurus and looks like an axe. Croconaw is honestly just a great, unique design that I haven’t seen elsewhere.

And then Feraligatr throws out everything that made Croconaw cool and is just Big Totodile. It’s less dinosaur, the markings are back to being the same as a Totodile’s, and its spike arrangement changes to be closer to Totodile’s than Croconaw’s. I know this is an issue with a lot of Pokemon, but it really doesn’t feel like proper design flow. I can see Totodile to Croconaw, Croconaw to Feraligatr, and Totodile to Feraligatr, but Totodile to Croconaw and then to Feraligatr feels off and awkward, with Croconaw trying different things that it then abandons.

Honestly, I hate this. I don’t hate Feraligatr on its own. Feraligatr is big and bulky and badass and has plates on its back that look like a butt. But I do hate that Croconaw gains traits from when it was a Totodile, then regains some Totodile traits as a Feraligatr.

ECOLOGY:

Little is known about Totodile’s position within the world. Wild Totodile are rarely seen outside of preserves, though it is obvious that Totodile are semiaquatic ambush predators.

If we assume them native to the Sinnoh underground, which is always questionable, their most likely prey are Bidoof and Shellos. Both are relatively weak and common Pokemon they share territory with, and while a Bidoof is more susceptible to Totodile’s aquatic ambushes, Shellos primary tactic of Water Gun is extremely ineffective against Totodile, while Totodile’s primary combat tactic is physical strength rather than water type attacks. Psyduck and Buizel also share their territory, but the former’s Confusion attack could easily be devastating to a Totodile while Buizel is simply too fast to be its primary food source.

TYPING:

Water is the most common type of Pokemon, even more than Normal, and while it’s a fine type, that does mean Feraligatr has a lot of competition on any team. …Wait, if Water is more frequent than Normal, doesn’t that make Water normal, and Normal abnormal?

STATS:

105 Attack, 100 Defense, and the rest of its starts around 80 puts Feraligatr as a bit of a bulkier attacker. Starter stats are universally solid, and being able to hit and take a hit is good. Feraligatr’s a bit lower on speed than other starters, but this hardly makes it ‘slow.’

ABILITIES:

Torrent is Torrent is Torrent and nobody cares about these stupid +damage at ⅓ health abilities.

Sheer Force is the good stuff. Sheer Force removes secondary effects from attacks to give them +30% damage, which turns a lot of mediocre moves into total beats. It’s very easy to build for Sheer Force, so it basically just gives more damage all the time. Any Feraligatr that matters will have Sheer Force.

MOVES:

Thanks to Sheer Force, Feraligatr’s best water move is Liquidation. 110 Base Power on a physical water move with 100% accuracy is just a great hit to have. This can be a bit of a pain to get on your Feraligatr, though, so Waterfall will do in a pinch.

For coverage, Feraligatr naturally learns Crunch, which combines with Sheer Force for just a great Dark-type attack. Not every Feraligatr set will feel the need for Crunch, but it’s a strong, easy option.

For other coverage options, it can get Ice Fang or, with effort, Ice Punch, as well as Iron Tail and Rock Slide to use with Sheer Force, and can always pick up Earthquake which is just good to have.

Feraligatr also gets access to solid setup moves, and your choice of Agility, Swords Dance, or Dragon Dance can be hugely advantageous with time to use them.

OVERALL:

Feraligatr needs love. Much of what I said about Meganium is true here- while other starters got Megas, Gigantimaxes, and alternate forms, Feraligatr got left in the dust. Worse, as a Physical Attacker, Feraligatr can’t even leverage Hydro Cannon, the super strong attack only for fully-evolved Water starters.

Its level-up moveset also leaves a lot to be desired. Totodile doesn’t get a physical water move until level 43, or 63 if you dare to evolve it into Feraligatr before then. I’m not saying it needs to learn the best ones, but it should definitely get at least something.

All that said, Feraligatr is still just a solid pokemon with decent all around stats and a great ability, so I don’t want to ask too much for it.

Croconaw’s design really has me itching for a more caveman/dinosaur hybrid thing, though. A regional variant of Feraligatr probably wouldn’t be able to pull that off, though, and I don’t see a branching evolution coming any time soon.

Hollow Cleric Pokemon stuff. This time with Crick and Kazan :D

Crick (Often does Single Battles)

Ampharos - The Starter. Provides light in the dark and can tank hits well. Very clingy and does that thing where it forehead bumps for affection. Her name is “Watson” and she likes to hug Crick despite the static electricity she gives off. She has a mega stone.

Staraptor - A little birdie who scans the area and helps with the terrain. She is a fierce one and likes bothering other people. A lot. She likes bothering people and stealing their things. Crick has a feeling that she may have been from a Honchkrow line…

Lycanroc (Dusk Form) - A Pokémon who evolved before the sun was forever gone. She was founded by Crick and just followed him because the man was friendly and gave her food. Now she’s his partner and often helps for rescue missions.

Aegislash - Issued by the Sacred Guard. Everyone needs to have one. This guy is just as honorable as Crick is and is also suffering under being teased from others. Sword Ghost guy gets flustered easily. Incredibly anxious.

Flareon - One of the last Pokémon from his childhood. She is a bit shy and pampered but she is very good at fighting. Best little guy ever. Loves pets and cuts up on people’s laps a lot.

Petilil - A Pokémon Crick found in the wild. He took him in due to how Grass Types struggle in the new world. She is very brave despite being at a severe disadvantage. She will also not evolve because Sun Stones don’t work for on them anymore. Don’t worry she’ll evolve eventually into a new variant :]

Kazan (Often does double battles)

Honchkrow - Technically Kazan’s Ace. Likes to fight and steal shit. They just do stuff on their own and likes to make fun of Kazan a lot. Here’s what happens when you have a crow be your partner for your journey. Very disapproving on the shit Kazan pulled and makes sure that the man knows it.

Dragapult - Caught after the end. They just kept floating near Kazan a lot and eventually they were caught. Very clingy towards young and likes sending things at Mach Speed. Actually sometimes like to fling things at Kazan at Mach Speeds. Honchkrow gets along with them.

Decidueye - Another Pokémon caught after the end. They don’t like to come out a lot and really only help when it comes to fending off people. Likes to be alone and she screeches at people who get in their space. Violence is okay.

Talonflame - Also caught after the end. He fast and just scans the area before reporting back and giving confirmation that things won’t be total shit. Likes to preen a lot and tends to be wanting to be clean and such. They try to get Kazan to give more food than he should. It never works.

Ceruledge - Original Starter. Refuses to listen to him or come out. Does not like what was done. There is a others ways to bring an end to the pain. Still will fight for him but he won’t like it.

Lucario - Roi’s. Was in Kazan’s bag and whenever he tries to leave it with someone else Lucario just comes back out and throws their poke ball at him. Grumpy Lucario who is pretty much forcing Kazan to go through self care.

kiwi I ADORE the little characterizations all the team choices show…….. every sacred guard member having an aegislash… all of Kazan’s pokemon either being jerks or desperately trying to make him feel better……….. agh!!!!!!!!!!!

Lord Hesso The Cobra, from Skellatin, OHHHH BOI from the moment i saw him i fell in love with his design, he looks like a tough guy who dosen't takes shit from anyone, i can't wait to see more from him! Lucifer, from Hazbin Hotel, even tho he hasen't appeared in the show yet, love the interpretation of the fans about him turning into a snake , just couldn't leave him out XD. And Crowley, from Good Omens, he didn't actually used his snake form too much asides from the beginning of the show, but that didn't stop the fans from drawing him, love this demon who is in love with an angel (YES I SHIP THEM)

Yall wanna see some cringe?

I decided to try creating pokemon variants or similar that one might find in my home state of Ms. I'm still working on more but it's a fun thought and doodle experiment

Blurb under cut. Please try not to take it all too seriously lol, this was just for funsies.

I'm also indulging my younger self. See a long, long time ago when I was a kid, I used to see my home as a place you could easily find pokemon around the corner. Tauros in the fields, Noctowl in the trees, the wasps were angry Beedrill, you get the idea

It was magical, a time before greed and capitalism caused rushed and unfinished games with questionable decisions by game freak higher ups. A time where I could just kinda look at the tall grass or the woods and see pokemon just living naturally without feeling a ton of responsibility or guilt for existing.

Recently I've decided to try exploring that AU, where states and such have their own dexes. Obviously some would overlap, like I'm very sure the Gulf Coast would have very similar dexes, but my idea would be that could start out with different starters that have different variant evolutions- and heck, you could even cross state borders to get theirs if that's what you wanted.

But for now, without getting way too deep, I decided to make variants based on critters that either exist here or have some sort of cultural tie in.

Let's go:

Typhlosion, Fire/Ground, low temp fires but also used for welding and construction, trusted with kids because they don't tend to start fires they don't quickly put out. The original line is already kinda mixed of badgers, weasels, moles, etc, but I think there's plenty of those here, and if nothing else Cyndaquil IS the fire mouse pokemon, and by God we got mice. Favoritism put it here admittedly since Cyndaquil was my very first pokemon in the games, and I'd want the same irl.

Blastoise, Water/Rock, basically more of a mobile tank people ride on. Uses the bubbles around its legs as wheels. Based on box turtles that live here

Chesnaught, Grass/Steel, based on various loggers and blue collar workers from here, helps with those sort of jobs and is pretty intelligent. It can form shields or slice up trees easily with its arm saws.

Yanma, Bug/Flying, based on dragonflies I see around the house

Yanmega, Bug/Steel, evolves while knowing Steel Wing. Tends to eat rusted metal from old farms and junk yards, very quick

Salandit, Ice/Electric, based on blue tailed skinks I see around my house often

Freezard, Ice/Electric, evolves from male ms Salandit. They take things by force if they want and their tails can be used as whips. Usually the females keep them in line though.

Corvilich, Flying/Rock- actually a cross over from a fan region I dabble in during my spare time. Lots of crows and corvids here, so naturally I think they'd be here too. Evolves from Corvisquire. They fight each other over nice bones and are great fliers, and are very intelligent, may or may not have good and bad omens associated

Miltank, Water/Normal, based on cows I see often taking dips in local ponds. Ms is a very farm heavy state, so I could see us having our own moomoo milk market. The arms and legs act like floaties.

Dragonite, Dragon/Fairy, evolves from Dragonair with high friendship. I wanted a psuedo legend, and then I found out Ms has its own dragon stories (even a town). I also thought it'd be neat to make a friend you'd maybe see in a forest, so I also added butterfly elements to it from the Great Purple Hairstreak.

I'm still making more, I'm progressing and getting a little better as I go, but I don't wanna get too crazy making a bunch. I'm thinking maybe about the same amount as Legends Arceus introduced. I do want to try making a full, balanced team, though, so I'll probably make more for that. So far though I could see myself with Typhlosion, Corvilich, Freezard, and Dragonite. Looking for a water type and maybe a doggo.

Media & Mythos #1 - Hisuian Starters

Pokemon Legends: Arceus is one of my favorite Pokemon games, not only because of its unconventional yet incredibly fun gameplay, but the way that it incorporates not only Japanese (Yamato) culture but Ainu and Hokkaido culture as well. There are many issues with regards to how PLA writes how the Galaxy Team and the native Hisuians interact within the story, but that is not the focus of this post.

In Ainu culture, the “kamuy” is a divine being that possesses a sort of spiritual energy or serves as a protector of an object, place, or idea. Like the Japanese “kami,” the Ainu term “kamuy” has a wide range of meanings that does not neatly translate into English. It is similar to the Greek “daemon,” which is a divine spirit that usually presides or lords upon a concept or natural force though his not predisposed to good or evil. According to John Batchelor’s The Ainu and Their Folk-lore, "the Ainu apply their term for god to such a variety of objects, both to the greatest and highest good, and also to the lowest and most malignant evil...”

Although the concept of the kamuy as it is is not in Legends Arceus, the starters of the game still allude to the different kamuy present in Ainu religion. The final evolutions of the starters - Decidueye, Typhlosion, and Samurott - exemplify the Ainu culture that Legends Arceus pulls much inspiration from.

Starting off with the Grass-type starter, Hisuian Decidueye may be based off of Chikap-kamuy (or Kotankor-kamuy, as some sources say). Chikap-kamuy is the kamuy of the land that takes the form of a great owl. In Ainu belief, the owl is said to be a watchful entity that presided over the relationship between the humans and the kamuy. It also presides over rituals and monitors whether humans carry them out.

In one legend, Chikap-kamuy sends several birds to the Heavens to deliver a message about a famine. However, Chikap-kamuy’s message was very long, taking several days to even recite. The hondo crow listens first, but dozes off. Therefore, Chikap-kamuy kills it. The mountain jay listens second, but dozes off too. Therefore, Chikap-kamuy kills it as well. The Siberian dipper listens third, and listens respectfully for six days and nights. Therefore, Chikap-kamuy lets it go, where it delivers the message to the Heavens.

The dipper returns to deliver the message that the humans had grown disdainful of the gifts from the kamuy, so the kamuy stopped sending their gifts. Chikap-kamuy then taught the humans how to hunt fish and offer the heads of deer to the inau (ritualistic wood-shaved sticks used in many Ainu practices). The kamuy are happy and the humans learn how to properly carry out rituals. “This myth both serves as an explanatory myth for the relationship with these animals and reemphasizes to the Ainu listeners the importance of making proper offerings, and of the proper ritual behavior that, because of the uncertainties of their lives, tried to ensure their survival.” (Michael Ashkenazy’s Handbook of Japanese Mythology)

Hisuian Decidueye and Chikap-kamuy share many similarities. For one, one of the inspirations for Decidueye seems to be the Blakiston’s fish owl, which lives within the Hokkaido region. According to Bulbapedia, “Hisuian Decidueye is said to have a stalwart, fierce personality, although it will tolerate those who do not act hostile towards it... It tends to have a nomadic lifestyle, wandering the region in search of food.” This is consistent of Chikap-kamuy’s distant nature as a watchful and fierce protector of the land. Though, Chikap-kamuy is not known to be a kamuy who is quick to fight, so perhaps Decidueye’s Fighting-type is a reference to Chikap-kamuy’s temper or derived from another inspiration entirely.

Moving onto the Fire-type starter, Hisuian Typhlosion may be based off of Kamuy-fuchi. Kamuy-fuchi is the kamuy of the hearth. It is said that she lives in the hearth within each home, as the hearth is the gateway to which the humans and kamuy can communicate with each other. She is one of the most important and powerful kamuy in the Ainu pantheon. She presides not only over the hearth but of domestic affairs and the household.

The hearth is also considered the residence of the dead, acting as a sort of underworld. Therefore, Kamuy-fuchi is considered a psychopomp, or one that guides the souls of the dead. Although Kamuy-fuchi rests at night, the hearth must never be extinguished. Her duty is so important that she never leaves the household, and employs other kamuy to act for her in the outside world.

According to legend, Kamuy-fuchi is the one who taught women how to make the kut (sacred belt worn on the lower abdomen that traces a woman’s matrilineal line). She is known to watch over mothers, for when a woman is going to give birth, a new fire is laid at the birthing place. “[T]hough she was served by men, her ties to women insured some balance between the sexes, at least inasmuch as familial and household affairs were concerned. Her myths demonstrate the relative independence and power that women assumed in Ainu society.” (Michael Ashkenazy’s Handbook of Japanese Mythology)

Hisuian Typhlosion’s typing pays homage to Kamuy-fuchi’s role as both a protector of the hearth and guide of the dead. According to Bulbapedia, “When eating spirits, it is believed that the spirits are purified by Hisuian Typhlosion's flames, before they are guided back to the afterlife where they belong.” Kamuy-fuchi is, as stated before, a psychopomp figure, and her hearth is kept pure by the humans. She does not eat spirits, but perhaps it is more of a symbolic reference than anything, since fire has a purifying aspect to it in many cultures.

As a bonus, Hisuian Typhlosion’s signature move Infernal Parade may be based off of the Hyakki Yagyō, or the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons. The Night Parade was a large parade of yōkai that manifested in the dead of night. It was seen as a sign of ill omen. “On nights when the grotesque procession worked its way across what was then the furthest edge of town, residents were obliged to take refuge in their homes lest they wind up sick, mutilated, or blinded by the sheer sight of its monstrous participants.” (Hiroko Yoda’s Japandemonium Illustrated: The Yokai Encyclopedias of Toriyama Sekien) This ties in with the Ghost-typing of the move, since yōkai often translates to “ghost” or “spirit.”

And finally, the Water-type starter Hisuian Samurott may be based off of Repun-kamuy. Repun-kamuy is the kamuy of the sea that takes the form of an orca. As a young child, he was known to be devious and unruly, though not truly unkind. He was an important kamuy because he provided gifts and food from the sea.

In one story, Repun-kamuy hunted a whale and her young and three them besides a village. A sea wren told him that the humans are cutting up the whales’ meat without showing the proper care to it. However, Repun-kamuy only laughed and said that the humans may do whatever they please with the meat, for it is theirs.

Later, Repun-kamuy saw that the sea wren had lied, and the humans cut up the whales’ meat with their sacred weapons while wearing their finest clothing. Feeling so grateful from the prayers and rituals of the humans, he held a grand feast for his fellow kamuy. He then declared that humans would know no famine, for the sea would keep them fed. “The mutually dependent relations of humans and kamui are well represented in this myth: The humans need food from nature (stranded whales were a major item of food), and the kamui need the prayers and offerings of the humans.” (Michael Ashkenazy’s Handbook of Japanese Mythology)

This comparison between Hisuian Samurott and Repun-kamuy is, unlike the other two, rather scant in terms of similarities and evidence. According to Bulbapedia, “Hisuian Samurott is said to have a cold and hard-hearted nature, and is deft with its shell blades. Unlike its Unovan counterpart, which prefers fighting fair, Hisuian Samurott will do anything to win a battle, and prefers to use tricks such as surprise attacks and cheap shots.” To my knowledge, Repun-kamuy is not an unfair or cruel god, merely a carefree and mischievous one. The plating on the back of Hisuian Samurott’s head somewhat resembles that of an orca (without the horn, obviously, since orcas don’t have horns). These differences are certainly due to differing inspirations for the Pokemon, though both Samurott and Repun-kamuy have a connection to water and the sea.

Although the Hisuian starters have varying inspirations for their designs and personalities, there is an undeniable link between them and the kamuy worshipped by the Ainu.

Papa Crewel In Pokemon AU it gives Yuu the chance to choose a partner he took care of for that moment and even though he knows very well the abilities of his dear puppy to take care of herself and how meticulous he was to nourish her first pokemon well he will never let go her to go on her journey without one of his partners accompanying her to take care of her. The strongest, most faithful, loyal and who can be a gremilin against irresponsible idiots (Crewel: yes, I'm talking to you Dire).

Crewel Pokémon is solely for safety and companionship rather than battling. They don't use them for gym battles or anything like that. Unless they run into the local evil team, then it's fair game.

Also, Crowely is the regional professor, and all the other staff are his long suffering colleagues at their own research posts at various towns. Crewel got Yuu her first Pokémon because he didn't want her to anything from Crowely. When Yuu was almost ten they asked if they were going to travel to where Crowely was for a starter, and Crewel reply was, "Absolutely not, those things are barely trained."

Hey! I’m sorry if you’ve been bombarded by these kinds of questions but I’m enamoured by your starter Pokemon quiz. I’ve taken it a bunch of times to get my team of six (Numel/Aron/Totodile/Larvitar/Bagon/Beldum) and while I love all of them, I really enjoyed Deino’s entry as someone with a disability I loved the fact that it embraces it’s unique perspective. Could you repost the full entry here? (As well as Rockruff as I haven’t gotten it and it’s my favourite.)

Hey it’s me! The anon with the Deino/Rockruff request, as a follow-up/aside, I wondered if you’ve ever had specific Pokemon that correlate with daemons from your other quizzes. I’ve always been curious about if there was a specific Pokemon that fits the daemon i was given (Red Golden Retriever) or if they’re simply not compatible 1:1. additionally that's such an interesting question, and i'd love to hear what people got as their daemon and as their pokemon partner! i can definitely say there's a bias in what types of people are on tumblr and take these quizzes -- chingling and the honey possum are two of the highest results for each quiz, and i can certainly see how they're similar. same with something like litwick and the hooded crow. alternatively the rarest results of slakoth and feebas don't have such an obvious comparison to the rarer results of the daemon quiz like the impala or horseshoe crab haha.

- Cookie Run (I play ovenbreak and kingdom. My most favorite cookies are Angel, Pilot, Vampire, Dark Enchantress, Matcha, Zombie, and Skater. I also like all the rares a lot lol)

- Cuphead (Watched multiple playthroughs of it, including the DLC, never bought it but played it with a friend)

- Danganronpa (I am not in the fandom anymore, nor do I support the problematic content in the games. I like quite a few of the characters and some fangans though, and one of my anons is a fan of it so take that as you will)

- Deltarune (My favorite characters are Berdly and Queen. Have played it and thoroughly enjoyed it)

- Dicey Dungeons (I play it on my nintendo switch. Haven't played it in a long time though. Need to get back to playing it with the free dlc that came out recently)

- Don't Hug Me I'm Scared (I've only watched the tv show and not the webseries so forgive me if I don't understand a reference from the webseries)

- Food Fantasy (I really like playing this game, though I don't really play it too much and mostly just do dailies and team up. My favorite food souls are Salty Tofu and Black Tea.)

- Friday Night Funkin (Mostly into the main game and Hex. I love Hex /p)

- Gacha Life/Club (I do not support gacha heat or any toxic gachas. I mainly use gacha club for making quick videos)

- Genshin Impact (I just play the game casually. I don't really participate in all the p2w and drama and hardcore shipping and stuff. My favorite character is Noelle and I'm a bit of a Yelan simp)

- Jackbox Games (Really fun even if I almost never win. Favorite games are Split the Room, Patently Stupid, and Guesspionage)

- Miitopia (I fucking adore this game and Tomodachi Life but I like this game more. My favorite classes are Chef, Scientist, and Tank)

- Minecraft (I don't like MCYT too much though)

- Nick Jr Shows in General (Once again, just a genuine interest)

- Pokémon (I've always been a huge fan of pokemon! My favorite pokemon is Giratina, my favorite generation is gen 9, my first game was Platinum, my favorite type is poison, and my favorite champion is Diantha bc she looks pretty)

- Project Sekai (MORE MORE JUMP is my favorite group and Nene is my favorite character)

- Roblox (Really nice. I play with my friend Gato a lot)

- Rusty Lake (I haven't played it, but I've watched playthroughs of most of the games! I really like it, despite the fact that I tend to not like horror/horror-like games. I really like Mr Crow)

- Sam & Max (Season 1 is my favorite and I may or may not have cried after watching 305)

- Super Mario (I adore all the Mario games! They're really cool! Some of my favorite characters are Bowser Jr, Birdo, Roy, Wario, Bowser, and Mario)

- Splatoon (I played the funny squid game a lot when I had nintendo switch online but not so much anymore. My favorite idol is Marina and I main bloblobber and slosher/hero slosher)

- Stardew Valley (Funny farmer game go brrr. My favorite characters are George, Evelyn, and Krobus)

- Team Fortress 2 (I just like watching the funny men in the funny ragdoll game. I main a combination of Scout, Soldier, and Pyro)

- Team Umizoomi (Once again, a genuine interest. This is my favorite nick jr show and I can ramble about it a lot and I'm pretty sure I have an attachment to it lol. I like all the characters but dislike half of their designs, my favorite characters are Squiddy, Blue Mermaid, Doormouse, and both of the Troublemakers)

- Undertale (Not as big of a fan of it as I was when I was younger, but I still like it. My favorite characters are Napstablook and Alphys)

- Yakuza (I just really like the silliness of it. Kiryu is def a really great character)

DNI:

- Basic DNI Criteria, including incest supporters, zoophiles, pedophiles/MAPs/lolicons/Whatever the fuck you guys call yourselves these days, homophobes and transphobes, and neo-nazis.

- Rape apologists/supporters. This technically falls under basic DNI but putting it separately as well because some people are fucking idiots.

- Proshippers. I block proship blogs on sight.

- IRL Shippers. (I just find it weird)

- Endogenics/Endogenic Systems and Tuplas. Traumagenic systems are allowed though.

- People who hate on neopronoun users. Respect isn't that hard.

- People who don't respect triggers. Fuck you.

- JKR Supporters. I'm very cautious around Harry Potter fans though so I won't immediately block you if you are an HP fan unless you say you support JKR.
