“The country [Joabana] is really hurting now because of the pandemic, which created economic contractions, plus the blockade declared by President Doofenshmirtz to bring the country to its knees. Most countries of the world want it removed!”- Elena Castillo Flores
A quote from my recent fic, "Joabana and the Specter of Doofatanian Intervention," with Joabana as a stand-in for Cuba in this AU world.

this is your daily reminder that it's been over 65 years since cuba overthrew batista's US-backed fascist dictatorship and the US is STILL keeping cuba in extreme poverty using an "embargo."
back in the 1950s, using US funds and US-trained soldiers, batista (not castro) removed most of cubans' rights, including the right to strike, censored all media, and used secret police to torture and publicly excute anyone who protested his dictatorship. In a document released by the CIA in 2005, it stated as many as 20,000 people were killed. In return, batista gave control of most of the arable land to the US. during the revolution, this land was reclaimed and redistributed, which means that USAmericans can now sue anyone who "traffics" in this "confiscated" property.
Despite US sanctions being an "embargo," the US also fines foreign companies for doing business in Cuba, meaning it's effectively a blockade. Despite Obama lightening some of these restrictions, Biden has done little to undo the tightened policies from Trump's administration.
In November, the UN called for the 31st time (!!!) for the US blockade to end, supported by 187 countries and opposed only by the US and its bestest buddy (I'll let you guess who).
Cuba has been in economic crisis for years. Monthly income in Cuba is $30-60. There is very little food and it is hard to purchase anything like toiletries, clothes, and over-the-counter medicines. Domestic production is down because they don't have the resources to sustain them. The US has been intentionally impoverishing and starving Cuba for decades, and they continue to make it clear that it is not going to stop.
So, yeah. US democracy is a joke, end the US blockade on Cuba, and fuck genocide joe.

So Ireland has been one of the loudest and consistent voices against Israel's occupation of Palestine. And while a number of European passport holders are now being allowed to leave Gaza into Egypt through the Rafah Crossing, Irish citizens have yet to be included.
The article says they're going country by country but it does seem like countries that have been critical of Israel are being pushed to the bottom of the list which would be extremely petty and spiteful if that's the reason.
On another note the UN voted almost unanimously to end the US embargo on Cuba. Guess who voted against as per usual? The USA and Israel with Ukraine Abstaining. Cuba too has always been very vocal in its support of Palestine and they do not recognise Israel at all.
We always joke about the system being rigged but we're seeing it plain as day. Is the UN as currently structured actually beneficial to anyone but imperialist powers? The Geneva Convention might as well be called the Geneva Suggestions at this point but I'll be venting all day if I continue.

there's a podcast i like thats focused on leftist theory through a christian lens (which i just think is really interesting, given how many christians you meet that are loudly anti-communist and for some reason are convinced jesus would love capitalism) and i just saw a tweet thread they made saying that, for Lent, they want to give up the US blockade against Cuba (so theyre spending the next 40 days writing letters to biden and their local reps and encouraging others to do the same)
i am delighted i bought all those stamps at costco because i am gonna be writing some goddamn letters to our dumbfuck government

"I don’t know what you are saying. There is something simple Doofatania can do. Ending any restrictive measures. Letting the people of Joabana decide this on their own, without any intervention. Minding our own business. There are enough problems in this country, we don’t need to meddle in the affairs of another one.”- Elena Castillo Flores
Elena goes against the arguments of Adora in a TV debate, calling for no U.S., I mean Doofatanian, intervention in Cuba, I mean Joabana, in my recent fic "Joabana and the Specter of Doofatanian Intervention"!

in theory br has the potential to be one of the most successful socialist experiences to this day when it happens like for real we are SET with natural resources, good temperature all year around, a huge coastline and lots of fish, lots of oil and discovered in the last decades!!, soil that will grow anything you plant in it, lots of potable water, lots of renewable energy sources, lots of mineral sources, a huge internal demand, a big working force, the biggest rainforest in the world, i could go on

How can one country (and its proxy state) hold up a resolution that ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY FOUR nations support?
What then is the point of the UN? Other than bootlicking to the American Empire?
