Let magic and science coexist. Let the wizard and the scientist go out for burritos together.
They can go out for burritos but I hate the idea that they’re both working with the same forces on opposite sides or whatever.
Dr. Johnson is working with cyclotrons and microscopes. My mans Alrudius the Wise is kicking it with goblins and making time go backwards with a pinwheel

Reading Ted Newsome and John Brancato's Spiderman script part 2
Part 1
21.Theres a scene where Peter calls pison control to ask about gaining superpowers, and they try to get him to call a psychiatric hospital ,and thats a good bit
22.OK for the record this script is pretty good....But this is the most dated and goofy part.Like OK in the comics Spidey's debut is in a wrestling match against Crusher Hogan, this is a key part of the orgin and the Sam Raimi film even kept it changing the wrestler to Bonesaw McGraw played by a scene stealing Randy Savage .....Well in this script they keep the scene....AND HAVE SPIDEY FACTUAL REAL WRESTLER HULK HOGAN.I dunno if they had Hogan premission or if he was working for the Canon group at the time .And no I dunno why I can accept a man crawling on walls fighting an octopus man but Hulk Hogan is a step to far but it is
23.Like that Petey is wearing a fly mask
24.Hulk Hogan gives Peter solid life advice of being a good guy.....I dont follow wrestling or no much abot Hulk Hogan so I dunno if this scene has aged poorly or not
25.So Peter gets the suit custom made.Neat
26.So Peters a Tony Bennet fan ......He has the same taste in music as my grandma
27.Doc OCk is very Body Horrorish here, the tentacles fused with his flesh
28.So Doc Ocks motives......Are the exact same ones he has in Sam Raimis Spider Man 2.Demeanors diffrent ,no Rosie here ,but the obsession over completing an experiment is the same
29.I cant picture Peter Cushing saying "Out on your ass "
30.Annnnd Thorkel fires Doc Ock ,only to be killed by his tentacles, which is actually something standard in Superhero movies, the boss who is mean to the villain becoming a victim of them
31.Ah they include Doc Ocks green and yellow costume, here a jogging suit .....Confession time Ive never liked the green and yellow outfit for Doc Ock ,but fun way to include it,though pairing it with an overcoat like in the script could work
32.The Human Spider is used as Petes initial name ....Which the Raimi film also used .Weird
33.Harry is kicked out of the university and is drunk.Honestly feel bad for him
34.Its very belivable that this Doc Ock is a murderer .Very broody and misanthropic
35.Basketball scene that is very similar to Amazing Spider Man
36.I like that Doc Ock begins his crime spree BEFORE Spidey becomes a hero.In fact I like that Otto and Peters stories are parallel
37.So Spidey is a guest on David Letterman..... Letterman and Spiderman-.....Cue clip
youtube
38.SpiderMan:What do I look like Charles Bronson
THAT I know is a self refrence to Canons out put
39.So a woman wants to bang Spider Man and tells him to keep the mask on.Didnt expect script to get horny but hey its Canon
40.This version keeps it was a break in where Ben was killed
To be continued

Atomic Secrets: The Scientists Who Built The Atom Bomb 💣
Science and the military converged under a cloak of secrecy at Los Alamos National Laboratory. As part of the Manhattan Project, Los Alamos — both its very existence and the work that went on there — was hidden from Americans during World War II.
Many of the thousands of scientists on the project were not officially aware of what they were working on. Though they were not permitted to talk to anyone about their work, including each other, by 1945 some had figured out that they were in fact building an atomic bomb.

Less than a year after Oppenheimer proposed using the remote desert site for the laboratory, Los Alamos was already home to a thousand scientists, engineers, support staff… and their families. By the end of the war the population was over 6,000, and the compound included amenities like this barber shop. Credit: Time Life/Getty Images

Though food was often in scant supply, residents made the best of life in their isolated community by putting on plays and organizing Saturday night square dances. Completely self-contained, the Los Alamos facility did not officially exist in its early years except as a post office box. The Trinity bomb was the first atomic bomb ever tested. It was detonated in the Jornada del Muerto (Dead Man’s Walk) Desert, near Alamogordo, New Mexico, on July 16, 1945. Though there was no evidence that Oppenheimer had betrayed his country in any way, several officials called his loyalty into question in the Cold War environment of 1954. hey! i’m a fellow uberhood player and i’m super nosey so could you tell us some fun/exciting/dramatic things that have happened in your hood?
hello, my fellow uberhood player! Oh, man... well, I have a habit of romanticizing my sims' lives (and my own) so there's a long wall of text under the cut + pictures!
The Beaker Fire of 2022 - There is an ongoing investigation into the disastrous fire that left two dead: Nervous and Loki. The suspects in question are Freya, the cat and Cyclotron, the Servo. Consequently, Circe was left with Loki's side projects: Ceres and Atom and so, to make her happy, Cyclotron has officially changed his name to CycLoki and assumed Loki's identity. No one says anything about it because no one else is going to do the dishes and clean up the lab. And me, as The Watcher, will enable CycLoki in any endeavor even though he annoys me.
Tumblr media
2. An Indecent Proposal - As some may recall, Tybalt and Puck were an overly obnoxious couple throughout Uni. They even went as far as to get engaged autonomously! After Uni, they moved in together to a small house in Veronaville. While Tybalt was at work, Puck wanted to invite someone over. He also had a want to flirt with Tank. As a benevolent and beautiful Watcher, I put the pieces together and ushered Puck to the phone.
First, I want to say, Tank and Puck have 3 bolt chemistry and second, Puck and Tank have made out IN FRONT OF Tybalt and he didn't mind. Anyway, Puck and Tank hooked up and Tybalt came home from work and lo and behold, Tybalt was not upset. Did not care. Confident or Cuckold?
Puck then walked over to Tybalt and AUTONOMOUSLY broke up with him. Yes, all of the sudden I get a pop up asking me who will move out. Dismissed, rejected, publicly humiliated. It was more than Tybalt could bear.
I switch over to Tybalt's new apartment and he's invited to an outing downtown by none other than Puck. I'm thinking, oh maybe there's a chance? Nope. At the outing, it's Puck, Tank, Romeo, Juliette, Hermia, and Puck's mom, Titania. So, basically, it was Tybalt vs Tank and Romeo all night.
Puck must have been feeling some kind of way because as Tybalt was calling a taxi, Puck tried to serenade him. It was at that moment Tybalt swore to ruin Puck and Tank's happiness.
Tybalt ended his round sleeping with John Mole (Tank's love interest) and - I believe - he had a hand in Puck losing his job.

3. The Curious Case of Pascal... Curious - I think it's just a fun/funny fact that Pascal remains a virgin who has never been kissed. I hope he will die like that.
4. Occupied Bathroom - In an effort to condense households, I moved David Ottomas and Gavin Newson in together and they both died. I have no idea how; I came back from whatever I was doing to find two urns in separate bathrooms. Sorry to Angela Pleasant, I know she loved Gavin 😥
5. She Said No - Patricia Wan and Cleo Shikibu are like peanut butter and jelly. They really love hanging out with each other and naturally talk to each other in game. So why the heck would Patricia deny Cleo's autonomous proposal?? And Cleo just had their twins?? That moment was a table flipping moment. Granted, nothing happened after that, but the point remains!
6. He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not - Juliette and Romeo. Romeo and Juliette. Lovers forced apart by no one except themselves in my game. Juliette is constantly rolling wants for Romeo so when her round came up, I had her ask Romeo on a date. She immediately rolled wants to be engaged and married to Romeo... And continuing my efforts to be the best Watcher I can be, I had Juliette propose. Romeo shrugged it off then wanted to make out. He doesn't roll wants for multiple partners, I truly think he just wants Juliette but not tied down.
[I play with vvqb's Alt Veronaville where the parents are alive.] Cordelia has an extreme dislike of Romeo and opted to set up Juliette with Dirk Dreamer. Juliette - after two dates with Dirk and another one with Romeo - finally rolled a want to marry Dirk. Dirk said yes, but I'll be damned that Juliette rolled to kiss Romeo. We'll see how this plays out next round.
Tumblr media
7. A New Demographic - The Unsavory Charlatan found a new group of sims to pickpocket. He really has hit rock bottom and brought a shovel with him.

ever since I decided to write that Ceres/Tycho fic, purely because I thought it'd be funny, I've fallen in love with her and I think that she'd be a smart, sweet awkward, and anxious girl based on her TS3 traits (neurotic, absent-minded, genius, perfectionist, heavy sleeper). but what about her brother? I know Atom has the evil trait but I'd like to think that maybe he doesn't HAVE to be evil, you know? like he doesn't have to follow in his father's footsteps! he's neurotic, a bot fan, evil, a kleptomaniac, and lucky (interesting collection of traits) but like maybe the power of friendship with Ceres, who he's best friends forever with 🥺 and Cyclotron (plumbot) can convince him to not do evil things
I will say that while Loki is kinda irredeemably evil I did also characterise him as a loving and protective father to his clone children, NOT TO SAY I THINK HE'S A MORALLY GOOD PERSON I just like the idea of him being a loving father despite being, you know, Horrible In Other Ways—this also by no means means I excuse the man for experimenting on Nervous I want that made clear—but like if I can give good qualities to Loki, I can give good qualities to Atom, he hasn't committed atrocities

'Releasing to a massive crowd of eager fans, the latest entry in Nolan's growing empire is a biopic of the father of the Atomic Bomb called Oppenheimer. The movie has an interesting rhythm, cutting back and forth between different points in time, keeping the audience engaged in the story.
The biggest draw of this film is definitely the characters. Because of its grounded nature, the movie is heavily centered around interpersonal relations and relies on the actors to do the heavy lifting and bring the movie to life. Of course, it's very visually engaging, and the score isn't something that disappoints, but the acting and characters shine the brightest.
10. Richard Feynman
A lovable scientist who kept a sunny disposition throughout the movie and in real life, Richard Feynman is played by our generation's rising star, Jack Quaid. The character is a part of the Los Alamos facility and is involved in the Manhattan Project.
In real life, he was known to be quite laid back and fun to be around, and the same is true in the movie. He was one of the youngest people to be recruited to the project, clocking in at 24. According to Oppenheimer, he chose Richard because he was 'the best there was,' especially since Neil Bohr was held captive by the Nazis and later refused to be a part of the project.
9. Jean Tatlock
The love interest of the movie is Jean Tatlock, though she only appears for a couple of scenes in the movie. She plays an important role for Oppenheimer, being the love of his life. He chases after the communist party members, seeking her hand in marriage, though she rejects him every time.
Jean was an active member of the Communist party, leading Oppenheimer to get in trouble because of his relationship with her. Though Oppenheimer had other relations with the leftist group, his main connection was his lady love.
8. Edward Teller
One of the antagonists of the film is the so-called father of the Hydrogen bomb, Edward Teller. Teller gets recruited into the Manhatten Project by Oppenheimer, becoming a core member of the scientists leading the project under Oppenheimer's guidance.
He proposed the idea of a hydrogen bomb early on, even being encouraged by Oppenheimer to pursue his idea. However, Oppenheimer becomes a roadblock for him later in the movie, refusing to let him go through with building something even deadlier than the atomic bomb. This leads to his main conflict with Oppenheimer, with him attesting against the man in the security hearing, something that made him extremely ostracized by the scientific community at the time.
7. William Borden
The main antagonist of the film is the staff executive director of the congress for the AEC (Atomic Energy Committee), William Borden. He accused Oppenheimer of being a Soviet agent, leaking internal secrets to the Russians, leading to them creating their own bomb much faster than the fastest estimates would have everyone believe.
He wrote the letter to the FBI and wanted to be the lead prosecutor against Oppenheimer in the hearing, though his wish wasn't granted. He was aided and incited by the chairman of the AEC, William Strauss, who had a personal vendetta against Oppenheimer himself. As a direct result of his letter, Oppenheimer lost his security clearance.
6. Ernest Lawrence
Ernest Lawrence was one of the scientists working on the Manhattan Project. He was a nuclear physicist who was much more practical than his colleague and close friend, Oppenheimer, even creating the famed cyclotron, a machine that earned him the Nobel Prize later in his life.
In the movie, Ernest is one of Oppenheimer's closest friends. His class was right next to Oppenheimer's, and it was where he built the first cyclotron, something that Oppenheimer looked forward to utilizing himself.
5. Kitty Oppenheimer
The thrice-widowed biologist that ended up as the wife of Oppenheimer doesn't fit the bill for the stereotypical housewife. She met Oppenheimer at a Communist party gathering and the two quickly fell in love, despite her married status. After eloping, the two came clean to her husband at the time and got married through official channels.
She was resentful of Oppenheimer in the later part of the movie, partly because of his playboy nature and partly because of his dedication to his work. Despite her personal feelings towards her husband, she defended him eloquently at his security hearing, swaying the opinion of one of the seated judges and biting back at the opposition for their slimy tactics.
4. Lewis Strauss
Though Borden was the one who penned the letter, there's no doubt that the person who helped him write the letter was Lewis Strauss, a would-be good guy and the chairman of the AEC. Though supportive of Oppenheimer at first, Lewis became a staunch opponent of the theoretical physicist when he began getting in the way of the development of the hydrogen bomb, something that Lewis thought was pivotal for the future of America.
He schemed against Oppenheimer, leading to a private hearing which basically had a predetermined result. Although his wrongdoings came out in the movie, ending the blockbuster on a positive note, he went largely unpunished in real life.
3. Isidor Rabi
Isidor met Oppenheimer in one of the lectures he was giving on Quantum Mechanics in Europe and was astonished by the young scientist's mastery of the Dutch language. The two became fast friends and kept in contact long after.
Isidor was one of the major opposers of the production of the Hydrogen Bomb and, later, its testing alongside Enrico Fermi and Oppenheimer. He even declined Oppenheimer's invitation to the Manhattan Project as the Deputy Director, though he joined in an advisory capacity.
2. Leslie Groves
The General that chose Oppenheimer wasn't under any illusions about the scientist's past associations with the Communist Party, but he chose him anyway. He wanted to go with the best, and he knew that Oppenheimer was the man for the job. During their time at Los Alamos, the two built a good friendship.
During the security hearing that ended up revoking Oppenheimer's clearance, General Leslie Groves, who was retired at the time, was one of the few people who defended the physicist's character. He said that he'd be 'amazed' if the allegations against the father of the atomic bomb turned out to have any substance to them.
1. Robert Oppenheimer
The main character of the film and one of the most influential people in the history of humanity, Robert Oppenheimer, is quite a complex character. The film follows three distinct timelines regarding his life. Though he isn't directly present for the last one himself, he is the focal point of the case that results in the disqualification of Lewis Strauss.
His role in the development of the atomic bomb is quite essential. Played by Cillian Murphy (the star of Peaky Blinders), Robert Oppenheimer brings a certain gravitas to the movie. His presence inspires confidence, but the movie makes it clear that he's just another man. Though he quotes Hindu scriptures and picks up languages like picking carrots, he is just as nuanced as any other person.'

Should the Justice Society leave the DCEU and join the DCU?
Tumblr media
While I may have reservations about the shake-up at Warner Bros, I am very excited about the DCU, and Peter Safran and James Gunn will likely bring the audience back in favor of Warner Bros. Discovery. However, and yes, I'm about to sound like a broken record again, I am worried for the Justice Society of America, aka JSA, which first entered the DCEU and appeared in the 2020 Black Adam film, which was something of a spin-off from the 2019 Shazam film. Say what you will, but the team of the Justice Society of America was one of the film's best parts. I know they were a lot of ups and downs (mostly downs I hear on the web) in the movie, but it was entertaining to see the fight scenes the characters had with Black Adam, who, if you didn't know, was portrayed by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. Get ready for minor spoilers.
The Justice Society was first introduced in the comics in the Winter of 1940 to 1941. All-Star Comics #3, published by All-American Publications then, was written by Gardner Fox and edited by Sheldon Mayer during what was considered the Golden Age of comic books. The Justice Society was the first team of superheroes in comic books. The group initially included: Doctor Fate, Hour-Man, aka Rex Tyler, and the Spectre, aka Jim Corrigan. The Sandman, aka Wesley Bernard "Wes" Dodds, the Atom. Flash, aka Jay Garrick, Green Lantern, aka Alan Scott, and Hawkman.
He is the hero Hawkman, a winged guardian entrusted by Nth Metal armor. In the comics, Hawkman is an archaeologist and an alien Thanagarian who has been reincarnated thousands of times through a curse. Every time he is born again, he must walk the earth till he encounters again with his everlasting soul mate. But shortly as he and his soulmate, Shiera Sanders Hall, aka Hawkgirl, develop a deep bind, they are fated to be slain again, and it persists.
As for Doctor Fate, well, in the comics decades ago, before World War II, a twelve-year-old Kent Nelson tracked his father, Sven Nelson, into the Valley of Ur. His father had been hit with a prophetic dream sometime earlier, a vision of an ancient tomb belonging to an extra-terrestrial wizard. When Kent encounters the wizard known as Nabu, he pushes Kent to press down on a nearby lever, casting a toxic gas extinguishing his father.
Nabu soon overflowed Kent's mind with mystifying knowledge and reconstructed him to his physical and mental peaks, changing him into a being of pure order. Nabu then showed Kent the helmet of fate, and the two became great heroes and forces for order within the universe.
Cyclone, on the other hand, is a 19-year-old student at Harvard University and an avid lover of the works of L. Frank Baum, particularly The Wizard of Oz. She is also the granddaughter of Abigail "Ma" Hunkel, an honorary member of the Justice Society who served as the original Red Tornado and is presently a caregiver of the Justice Society of America's headquarters. When Maxine was young, she idolized her grandmother's allies in the JSA.
Then there is Atom-Smasher, the godson of Al Pratt, the Golden Age Atom, Albert Rothstein, received his metahuman abilities of super strength and control over his molecular structure, letting him modify his height and density body, from his grandfather, a dubious supervillain known as Cyclotron. When he was younger, he went by the name Nuklon and was a charter member of Infinity, Inc., and later functioned in the Justice League. He has been deemed a reliable but somewhat unconfident and uncertain superhero in Infinity, Inc. He had a mohawk haircut during this time. While in the JLA, he developed a strong friendship with fellow former Infinity Inc.
In the film, the team was currently condensed in the roster and consisted of Hawkman, aka Carter Hall, whom Aldis Hodge portrayed. Albert "Al" Rothstein, aka Atom Smasher, was portrayed by Noah Centineo, Cyclone, Maxine Hunkel, Quintessa Swindell, and Doctor Fate; Kent Nelson was performed by Pierce Brosnan, whose performance I thought was the highlight of the film.
After hearing about Black Adam, US government official, and Argus director Amanda Waller called Hawkman, the team's de facto leader, and tasked him to assemble a crew and bring Black Adam into custody. Hawkman then forms the team, which seems to be the group's reappearance, which once featured known members himself, The Savage Hawkman, the Golden Age Doctor Fate, and the Mighty Mite The Atom, who was also the uncle of Atom Smasher.
As you can imagine, the team's first encounter against Black Adam was met with hostile intentions between the JSA and Black Adam. The group manages to stop Adam for a while before he escapes to the ruins of Anh-Kot's palace. During the fight, fate learns that Adrianna is an archeologist who freed Black Adam. The JSA asks Adrianna to give them the crown, but she refuses until they reveal to her the truth that Adam was the one who lost control of his ability five thousand years ago and annihilated the Khandaq palace in his revenge for the king, who killed his family, seeking power at the time.
However, now I'm getting off-topic. In short, aside from the fight with Black Adam, one of the other spotlights of the film was from Hawkman's mansion to the secret underground base where they held Hawkman's jet, the Hawk Cruiser. Even the bantering and camaraderie between the team and Atom Smasher getting in trouble with Hawkman more than once.
My only complaint was that we didn't get more of the team dynamic and that they weren't the story's focus, which I know would be odd as the film was about Black Adam. And unfortunately, not the JSA.
Now that the DC film franchise is getting an overhaul and reboot of a slate of new films and TV shows whose to same this version of the JSA will appear, which would be a shame as the heroes seemed just to be getting their feet wet.
I haven't always been the most loyal fan of the Justice Society, but after watching the Black Adam film, I have been warming myself up with the team, even with their comic book counterparts. I'd like to see more of the Justice Society, but I want to know if the team will still be around after the characters' reshuffle at DC Studios. Viola Davis plans to portray Amanda Waller so that she may require the services of the Justice Society of America. But who knows? What were your thoughts on the team in the Black Adam film? Did you have a favorite part of the movie? Which JSA would you like to see in a standalone film? Well, that's it for now. Until then, Venture Onward.

Action Comics #267
Tumblr media
Cover Date: August 1960 | Written by Jerry Siegel | Art by Jim Mooney
Read on DC Universe Infinite | NOTE: These commentaries are going to be very spoiler heavy
The Supergirl story in this issue is called “The Three Super-Heroes!” and the reason why becomes pretty obvious pretty quickly as we get to see Supergirl’s first meeting with the Legion of Super-Heroes!
Tumblr media
This issue starts out with Kara and a bunch of kids from the orphanage taking a trip to the Superman Fair, part of a Superman Week celebration.
You know, something I kind of knew but didn’t fully grasp until I began reading some of these older comics is just how deified Superman was in the comics back then. Sure, he’s still beloved by people around the world in DC’s canon, but it was on a whole different level back then.
Anyway. The kids are taking a bus to Metropolis to see Superman in person at the fair, but they’re stopped at a bridge because a ship is approaching, meaning the drawbridge will have to be raised.
THIS LOOKS LIKE A JOB FOR SUPERGIRL!
Kara, in her civilian Linda Lee persona, is sitting at the very back of the bus. Afraid that everyone’s going to miss seeing Superman, slips out of the back of the bus (yeah I suppose door alarms weren’t a thing in 1960), changes into Supergirl, and drags the ship down so that it sinks low enough to slip by under the bridge without it needing to be raised. She also speeds up the ship a great deal, and once it’s cleared, lets it go, shakes herself dry, and slips back into the back of the bus without anyone noticing.
And I just wanted to share a pic of Supergirl shaking herself dry because it’s adorable:
Tumblr media
After that the bus makes it safely to the Superman Fair in time for them to see Superman performing daring feats such as... standing there while people electrify him.
Tumblr media
I mean, yeah that IS impressive, but not the most visually interesting thing he could be doing, is it?
And now that we’re at the fair, this is where the three super-heroes in the title start coming in as weird things start happening.
First, the cyclotron used to electrify Superman begins to malfunction, but only after Supes has left. Kara is worried that she’s going to have to do something, but is concerned about outing herself to the public. That is, until some redhead dude steps in and takes care of it for her. Afterwards, he whispers to Kara that he knows her secret and he stepped in to help her protect it. Needless to say, this concerns Kara, and she asks how he knows, to which the man simply replies:
Tumblr media
O... Kay. Thanks for the help super-shady dude.
Next, a lion gets free at the fairgrounds, but before Kara must choose whether or not to intervene, a blonde woman is seemingly able to tame the lion and gets it to return to its cage. When Kara approaches her, the woman says, before Kara can even get a word out, “your secret identity is still safe, Supergirl!” Which makes Kara again concerned, but all she gets is:
Tumblr media
Finally, Kara is riding on one of those spinning chair rides, but they’re in the shape of the rocket Superman came to Earth in. The one Kara is riding in breaks, sending her flying in the rocket. She’s worried about stopping the thing and safely landing, as it will out her, but a dark-haired man is able to telekinetically stop it for her. He says he did to help Kara protect her secret identity, to which Kara once again asks what’s going on and:
Tumblr media
Okay, at this point it’s obvious what’s going on and who these three are: they’re Legion of Super-Heroes members, but this whole leading Kara around all day is such a jerk move on their part!
So, Kara goes home to the orphanage later in the day, and is confused and worried and frustrated. And to make matters worse, apparently there’s suddenly construction around the forest where she keeps her Linda Lee decoy robot hidden (in a hollow tree). But when Kara uses her telescopic vision, she sees that the robot isn’t there, and that it’s been moved to a safe location already.
Kara’s had enough and goes to investigate, and guess who she finds?
Tumblr media
Supergirl demands answers, and this time they’re more than happy to introduce themselves as members of the Legion of Super-Heroes. Kara recognizes the name and realizes that she’s talking to Lightning Lad, Saturn Girl, and Cosmic Boy, the Legion members that met Superman all those years ago back when he was Superboy. It seems that they’re the children of the people Superboy met, and the things that happened at the fair were events they set up as a sort of initiation test for Supergirl, even though I’m not sure how much they makes sense. What were they testing her for? How committed she was to protecting her secret identity?
The Legion of Super-Heroes is a strictly under 18 club (does that still hold true? or was that just a silver age thing?) They want Kara to come to the future with them and join their club, which Kara is more than happy to do. So, they ask her if she wants to fly in their time ship, Kara declines and decides to fly there herself.
Tumblr media
I’m sorry.
Hold on.
SUPERGIRL CAN FLY THROUGH TIME?!
And probably Superman too, but I didn’t realize that they could just simply FLY THROUGH TIME.
Okay, trying to move on from that. The Legion takes Supergirl on a tour of 30th century Metropolis, which as a cute atompunk aesthetic that most sci-fi did at the time.
After the tour (and ice cream), they go to the Legion clubhouse where Supergirl meets the rest of the Legion: Chameleon Bpy, Colossal Boy, and Invisible Kid. They give her a demonstration of their powers and tell her about the application process: they vote in one candidate a year based on who performs the greatest super-feat.
Supergirl asks about the primary travel of the world, and the Legion tells her that most people travel by aircraft, leading to a lot of air congestion, which Supergirl the idea to dig a tunnel through the Earth as a shortcut to help the air traffic congestion.
Tumblr media
I’m sure that’s... fine?
Well, Supergirl emerges from the tunnel, super-proud of herself. But unfortunately the Legion have decided to vote in another member because Supergirl has broken the “no one over 18″ rule.
What in the heck?
Turns out, while Supergirl was burrowing through the Earth, she happened upon some red Kryptonite. This one’s effects was to age up Supergirl into an older woman.
Tumblr media
For those that don’t know, red Kryptonite has random effects on Kryptonians, no two pieces are the same, like snowflakes! But instead of pretty patterns, red Kryptonite was basically used as “random problem generator” for super characters.
Because they have no idea how long the effects will last, the Legion rejects Supergirl’s application, and tells her that she’s welcome to try again next year if she ages back down to her normal self.
Can I just say that the Legion of Super-Heroes are kind of dicks in this issue. They stress Kara out all day at the fair, then whisk her away to the future, make her compete the same day, and reject her on a technicality that they probably knew wouldn’t last that long. Jeez.
Supergirl returns to the present dejected. Now she can’t even return to the orphanage, so she hides out in the mountains, too ashamed to contact Superman, and distraught that the effects might be permanent.
Thankfully, the affects only last one hour. Happy, Kara returns to the orphanage and thinks about the disappointments of the day.
Tumblr media
Even after just a couple issues, it’s already becoming apparent that Kara struggles with loneliness and pushing herself too hard to be the perfect person for other people. Somehow I don’t think those things are going to be directly addressed anytime soon as that doesn’t feel like something comics of this age really did, but maybe I’ll be wrong!
Only way to find out is to keep reading!

Who's Who In The DC Universe #1: Alley-Kat-Abra, All-Star Squadron, Amazing Man
Alley -Kat-Abra by Scott Shaw
Felina Furr is a blue and black furred magician who fights crime in a similar outfit to the Spoiler except the costume is in a red/purple color scheme.
She is from Earth-C and is a member of the Zoo Crew.
The source of her abilities is a wand she calls Magic Wanda
The Zoo Crew have defeated Starro the Conqueror.
Was the Zoo Crew silly? Yes. Were they fun? Also yes.
All-Star Squadron by Jerry Ordway
The Squadron was formed in the aftermath of Pearl Harbor, when FDR requested all active heroes come together.
The initial roster was Commander Steel, Liberty Belle, Robotman, Amazing-Man, Firebrand II, Tarantula, Johnny Quick, Hawkman, Green Lantern, Hourman, Plastic Man, Dr. Fate, the Guardian, Hawkgirl, Shining Knight, and the Atom.
All heroes are the Golden Age versions of the characters – Green Lantern is Alan Scott not Hal Jordan, etc
The All-Stars were located on Earth-2.
Liberty Belle was the leader of the team.  One of the earlier examples of a woman leading a superhero team.  Saturn Girl was the first (as far as I know) and the Wasp and Storm of the Marvel universe would be taking over the Avengers and X-Men either around this time or shortly afterwards.
Plastic Man was the liaison to the FBI.
The roster would greatly expand around the Crisis era.
The All-Stars receive an entry for their headquarters, built on the grounds of the 1939-1940 New York World’s Fair.
The Golden Age, and the generational aspect of the legacy characters, is one of my favorite aspects of the DC Universe. The All-Star Squadron was a severely underrated run. Is Roy Thomas the most exciting writer of dialogue? No. However, the plots were great, and the love and respect Roy Thomas has for the Golden Age characters leaps from the page. The series can be found on the DC Comics app – give it a shot.
Amazing-Man by Jerry Ordway
Amazing-Man was created by Roy Thomas and Jerry Ordway. Original Golden Age characters were predominantly white for various, stupid reasons. Thomas and Ordway wanted to put a person of color in the All-Star Squadron, so they created one.
Will Everett entered the 1936 Olympics where they “proved Adolf Hitler’s racist assertions wrong by winning headlines and gold medals”. Suck it, Hitler!
Everett was unable to find work upon returning home because that era sucked for people of color.
He eventually found work as a janitor at Dr. Terry Curtis’s lab. Curtis is better known as reluctant super-villain Cyclotron.
Everett was kidnapped by the minions of the Ultra-Humanite and subjected to the power of an electro-generator by Dr. Curtis.
The electro-generator exploded and granted Everett the ability to “absorb the property of any material with which he came in contact”.
Everett agreed to work with the Ultra-Humanite to spare his family and his hometown of Detroit.
Everett turned on the Ultra-Humanite and joined the All-Star Squadron to save the world.
Once again, the All-Star Squadron series is great. Read it! Roy Thomas deserves bonus points for realizing all the way back in the early 1980s, that the All-Stars were too white and needed a person of color. Roy would continue this trend in the original Infinity Inc series and the Young All-Stars series when he added Tsunami (a Japanese woman), Flying Fox (a Native American man) and made the successors of Dr. Mid-Nite and Wildcat an African-American woman and a Hispanic woman. Roy also added more women on the teams with these creations.

Reading Ted Newsome and John Brancato's Spiderman script
1.So we start with an artsy shot of a spider web before showing our antagonist Doc Ock working on the Cyclotron (Im assuming this is the The Mcguffin ).I like the intro to Ock,working with a tenticaled doodad, while taking a drag of a cigarette and eating a chili dog.I also like the depiction of him as a brooding broadly built guy with long hair ,a bit unkempt with stains on his shirt due to being focused on his work
2.So we are introduced to Ocks colleagues, and OC's for the film Thorkle (Tall thin guy wearing glasses in his 40's) and Rossomoff (Who despite being 75 is very spry). The writers were Hammer fans so wrote these roles with Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee respectfully in mind ....Which I see it ,but Lee was younger then Cushing but whatever, maybe makeup
3.So Bob Hoskins was the main choice for Doc Ock .....And I kind of love the idea of this super genius having Hoskins signature Cockney accent
4.Also Rossomoff admits he doesnt like Thorkle to Ock,RIGHT IN FRONT OF THORKLE .DAaaaaaaaaaaamn what did Thorkle do to get disdain from both Ock and Rossomoff ???
5.Huh Peter is a collage student here instead of Highschool.Neat
6."Curtis Connors Science center " Cute
7.So Harry Osborne here is an awkward weird friend in a heavy metal T Shirt......So he is basically Evil Ed from Fright Night
8.Liz Allen is reading Jane Austin ....Dont know what else to say but she is
9.Also so Liz Allen is the romantic interest instead of Gwen Stacy or Mary Jane Watson....Interesting
10.Liz and Peter flirt by saying how much they dont like eachother.....Kay
11."Doc Ock has a cigarette dangling out of his mouth as there is a no smoking sign behind him"....OK that made me laugh
12,Otto is so dead inside,I love it
13.Harry stole a rabbit from a science lab and releases it and a dozen Basset hounds into a library .....What an elaborate prank
14.Huh Jameson is introduced BEFORE Petey became Spider-Man
15.Also should point out Stan Lee wanted to play JAmeson
16.So Aunt May here is a woman in her 50's,very stylish and full of life......So the opposite of comic Aunt May ,and thank the Lord for that .Honestly this feels more like modern takes on Aunt May
17.Uncle Ben seems nice ,not the brightest guy but clearly cares for Peter but isnt sure how fatherly to be
18.So Doc Ock is forced to quit an experiment but does it secretly anyway causing an explosion....huh....Why do I feel Spider-Man 2002,Spider-Man 2 and Into the Spiderverse took elements from this movie
19.I like that the accident that makes Otto Doctor Octopus also mutates the Spider that bites Peter
20.Love the pure joy Peter has at finding his powers
To be continued

November 11, 1930: Patent Granted For Einstein-Szilard Refrigerator
Tumblr media
Refrigeration Patent
Albert Einstein is best known to the general public for devising the world’s most famous equation: E=mc2. But his contributions to physics extend over a broad range of topics, including Brownian motion, the photoelectric effect, special and general relativity, and stimulated emission, which led to the development of the laser. Less well known, even among physicists, is his work with Leo Szilard to develop an energy efficient absorption refrigerator with no moving parts.
Szilard was born in Budapest, Hungary in 1898, the son of a civil engineer, and served in the Austro-Hungarian Army during World War I. After the war, he returned to university, studying physics under Einstein and Max Planck, among others. His dissertation was in thermodynamics, and in 1929 he published a seminal paper, “On the Lessening of Entropy in a Thermodynamic System by Interference of an Intelligent Being”–part of an ongoing attempt by physicists to better understand the “Maxwell’s Demon” thought experiment first proposed by James Clerk Maxwell in the 19th century.
Szilard had a knack for invention, applying for patents for an x-ray sensitive cell and improvements to mercury vapor lamps while still a young scientist. He also filed patents for an electron microscope, as well as the linear accelerator and the cyclotron, all of which have helped revolutionize physics research. Szilard’s most important contribution to 20th century physics was the neutron chain reaction, first conceived in 1933. In 1955, he and Enrico Fermi received a joint patent on the first nuclear reactor.
Einstein wasn’t a stranger to the patent process, either, having worked as a patent clerk in Bern as a young man. He later received a patent with a German engineer named Rudolf Goldschmidt in 1934 for a working prototype of a hearing aid. A singer of Einstein’s acquaintance who suffered hearing loss provided the inspiration for the invention.
Tumblr media
When they met, Einstein was already a world-famous physicist, thanks to his work on relativity, while Szilard was just starting out, as a graduate assistant at the University of Berlin. The impetus for the two men’s collaboration on a refrigerator occurred in 1926, when newspapers reported the tragic death of an entire family in Berlin, due to toxic gas fumes that leaked throughout the house while they slept, the result of a broken refrigerator seal. Such leaks were occurring with alarming frequency as more people replaced traditional ice boxes with modern mechanical refrigerators which relied on poisonous gases like methyl chloride, ammonia, and sulfur dioxide as refrigerants.
Einstein was deeply affected by the tragedy, and told Szilard that there must be a better design than the mechanical compressors and toxic gases used in the modern refrigerator. Together they set out to find one. They focused their attention on absorption refrigerators, in which a heat source–in that time, a natural gas flame–is used to drive the absorption process and release coolant from a chemical solution. An earlier version of this technology had been introduced in 1922 by Swiss inventors, and Szilard found a way to improve on their design, drawing on his expertise in thermodynamics. His heat source drove a combination of gases and liquids through three interconnected circuits.
One of the components they designed for their refrigerator was the Einstein-Szilard electromagnetic pump, which had no moving parts, relying instead on generating an electromagnetic field by running alternating current through coils. The field moved a liquid metal, and the metal, in turn, served as a piston and compressed a refrigerant. The rest of the process worked much like today’s conventional refrigerators.
Einstein and Szilard needed an engineer to help them design a working prototype, and they found one in Albert Korodi, who first met Szilard when both were engineering students at the Budapest Technical University, and were neighbors and good friends when both later moved to Berlin.
The German company A.E.G. agreed to develop the pump technology, and hired Korodi as a full-time engineer. But the device was noisy due to cavitation as the liquid metal passed through the pump. One contemporary researcher said it “howled like a jackal,” although Korodi claimed it sounded more like rushing water. Korodi reduced the noise significantly by varying the voltage and increasing the number of coils in the pump. Another challenge was the choice of liquid metal. Mercury wasn’t sufficiently conductive, so the pump used a potassium-sodium alloy instead, which required a special sealed system because it is so chemically reactive.
Tumblr media
Despite filing more than 45 patent applications in six different countries, none of Einstein and Szilard’s alternative designs for refrigerators ever became a consumer product, although several were licensed, thereby providing a tidy bit of extra income for the scientists over the years. And the Einstein/Szilard pump proved useful for cooling breeder reactors. The prototypes were not energy efficient, and the Great Depression hit many potential manufacturers hard. But it was the introduction of a new non-toxic refrigerant, freon, in 1930 that spelled doom for the Einstein/Szilard refrigerator.
Interest in their designs has revived in recent years, fueled by environmental concerns over climate change and the impact of freon and other chlorofluorocarbons on the ozone layer, as well as the need to find alternative energy sources. In 2008, a team at Oxford University built a prototype as part of a project to develop more robust appliances, and a former graduate student at Georgia Tech, Andy Delano, also built a prototype of one of Einstein and Szilard’s designs. Yet another team at Cambridge University is experimenting with cooling via magnetic fields. Perhaps this invention won’t revolutionize the world, but in its own small way, it might help spare the planet–more than 70 years after Einstein and Szilard first conceived of it.
