thinking about these two nights currently has me in a vice-like grip tbh. originally they were just doing a night in london and a night in manchester performing moth boys in full because they hadn't properly toured it but due to high demand they announced an extra date in each city the night before the moth boys shows were due to happen for them to play enjoy it while it lasts in full and it was SO HOT and so insane. these were also taken on like an iphone 6 or something so they're truly 2014core.

Live Review: JOHN at The Deaf Institute in Manchester 08 December 2023
Words: Andy Hughes
An unwelcome gig ritual of late has been untangling the cord on my earplugs. First world problems for sure, but the time spent taking on the laborious task this past Friday night put us in danger of drifting into tinnitus territory, given the wall of noise erupting from Manchester locals PREDECEASED at The Deaf Institute.
First on just after 7PM, they were the providers of…

always an angel, never a god
i realized that using the technical pen was a bad idea because look at that goofy pixelated lineart
anyway this started out as a traditional sketch last night! finding a suitable pose was a struggle
here's the comparison!
it is supposed to be plain.
ALSO it's my first time IN YEARS doing digital art so it might look kind of.... eh to other people. i'm proud of how i did the flame tho (and i realized it might have been drawn in the wrong direction).
i actually don't have any plans to invest myself in digital art and learn it the same way as i did with trad and in all honesty i kind of lost hope in doing so. but when i was conceptualizing, i thought of passing my sketch (trad) digitally and like, give more life to it. so then i thought "hey, what if i give it a try?"
so there you have it! hope you liked it somehow :)
aaand the next time i do digital art i will find a better brush.
if i ever continue doing digital art, this is what my watermark should look like!
if any of you idiots claim any of my works as yours i will sell your parts /j

if i have to see another ‘the queen wasn’t responsible for colonialism’ post i’m going to eat my own face.
even leaving aside the many factors that indicate she did support continued colonialist and racist attitudes where they benefited her, no one* is saying she personally invaded every country in the commonwealth and committed or supported every atrocity of the british empire.
as the monarch of the united kingdom for almost a century, she was responsible for, as in accountable for, not as in ‘single-handedly perpetrated’, every single ounce of ongoing harm resulting from british imperialism.
i’m sure people don’t mean it this way when they point out, in response to posts about her being responsible for the atrocities of colonialism, that she wasn't solely responsible for the british empire. but making these pedantic gotcha-type ‘well actually’ comments on off-the-cuff posts by people from countries directly affected by british imperialism is incredibly tone-deaf, particularly if you’re doing so as an american. you don’t get to act smug about having a more detached, nuanced response when yeah, obviously you do, because you’re not personally affected (and honestly, because unlike us you probably weren't posting from your phone at the pub during the fifth round of celebratory drinks).
(also, i feel like people really don’t realise how recently many countries achieved independence, OR how many 'independent' countries still have the british monarch as their head of state, OR how much harm was committed during the queen’s reign. but that’s a different rant which should be written by someone with degrees in modern rather than medieval history.)
*okay, i haven’t checked with literally everyone in the world, but none of the criticisms i’ve seen were actually implying this, and i can’t imagine many people would be, on account of how she hadn't been born yet for a lot of it.

Live Review: Personal Trainer at Deaf Institute in Manchester 04 November 2023
Words: Andy Hughes
When Amsterdam’s Personal Trainer become massive (which they will), it will seem mad that they ever squeezed into The Castle Hotel in Manchester (not least because there’s seven people in the band and it’s an intimate room). That’s no shade on The Castle Hotel, a wonderful boozer on Oldham Street that is deep within the very fabric of Manchester’s music scene (even though the…
