OK, I've been reading the Deavabad trilogy and I just finished my first read. Loved it-- a lot, but I hate Darayavahoush so much. I don't feel badly for him. I wish Nahri had given him some kind of real consequence for constantly betraying her. Killing Meniza was way more about him than it was about Nahri, and he still doesn't seem to get that other people hate him because he's awful.
Oh, no! The people I have been oppressing single handedly poisoned me! They're the worst! So what if I've been killing their friends and starving their children.
Oh no! My leader shows me literally every red flag that has ever flagged. You know, who cares if she commits genocide by chemical weapon, though? She's probably got a good reason.
Oops. Didn't mean to commit an atrocity at the hospital. Guess I'm gonna have to do life on life's terms.
Oh. You're making your own choices about how to live? Come with me or I'll kill all your friends. You don't trust me anymore? How unreasonable!
Like he never. Fucking. Gets it. And Nahri let's him completely off the hook in the end. Honestly, that took a piece of my love for her character. I'm pretty mad about it.

so about me:
HIIII i'm alexa (if you're from 🇵🇱 call me Ola <333)
i LOVE books, mostly fantasy, but sometimes i'll read something else
series that live in my head rent free:
got, tog, the deavabad trilogy, soc duology, acotar??????, and much more
my beloved characters:
Nesta Archeron, Darayavahoush e-Afshin, Sansa Stark, Daenerys Targaryen, the whole Martell house, Lucien Vanserra, Gwyneth Berdara, Emerie, Nahri e-Nahid, Jude Duarte, Cardan Greenbriar, Inej Ghafa, Jesper Fahey, Aelin Ashryver Galathynius, Dorian Havilliard, Manon Blackbeak, Elide Lochan, Lorcan Salvaterre, Gavriel, Fang Runin, Lidia Cervos
i also love: crocheting, painting, drawing, going to the gym, writing, poetry, tbh most forms of art, cooking, baking, EATING THE FOOD I MAKE, doing gel nail extentions (i'm proud of this one), complaining, annoying my friends, summer, autumn but only in theory (as soon as the weather gets cold i loose my will to exist), hot girl walks, taylor swift, just overall listening to music and MANY other things
i also like to make my own life miserable by choice sometimes (TRYING NOT TO DO THAT A LOT, but chaos just CALLS to me), rn it's just a whole mess kept together by a single thread. i'm not in a very positive place in life, but i want to figure it all out so keep your fingers crossed for me💖💖
i am usually thirsting over fictional characters (or this one tall hot guy from my town who doesn't know about my existence)
my romantic life is almost non existent tho, so there's not a lot of tea on it
i'd love to move out of poland in a couple of years and i'm contemplating canada, scotland, denmark and norway (leaning the most towards canada and scotland because i have family there)
i would love to become a tattoo artist and i hope i finally take steps toward it
i sometimes feel like i have one braincell (and share it with my friends)
but hey at least i'm fun right
i don't know what else to put in here so yeah!! but if anyone has read it up to this point, love you, you're amazing!!

I have an incredibly hard time diving into a fantasy that doesn't have a kinda weird or unique setting. I really try to avoid any fantasy series that uses our earth as a series, even places that are earth-like are kinda annoying. I want to escape with my escapism thank you very much. I want to see an ice planet that is only habitable because of a giant contact lens in place of the moon. I want a planet that is wrecked by hurricanes every week but they got ghosts that are a totally normal and extremely common occurrence, to the point where they are ignored. I want a planet where they have to outrun the sun. I want a flat planet that sits on the back of an elephant, on the back of a sea turtle.
Like I love Brent Week's Lightbringer but it would have been cooler if we saw the magic naturally in nature and not in just humans and the things they create. The banes and the luxen storms really help this part, but I wish they were a little more involved. I wish there was some aspect of the setting itself that was really obvious and fantastical, and totally taken for granted and seen as normal by society. Like the Luxen storms only happen if a prism doesn't balance the colors, but what if they only went wild when they are out of balance. What if Luxen was still a natural part of the weather patterns even with the balance intact. I just think that would have been cool.
Don't get me wrong I've read a lot of good fantasy that uses earth. The Deavabad trilogy starting with City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty, and Hank Green's Carl Saga starting with An Absolutely Remarkable Thing are fantastic. But I want weird settings.
Please give recommendations in the comments. Keep in mind I've read everything in the Cosmere so no need for that and I'm working on Discworld. And the Inheritance cycle and Fifth season are on my tbr

I’ve started rereading The City of Brass, and I have all these sticky notes in it from when I was trying to piece plot points and theories together the first time. Turns out I was right about a lot, but also somethings are still mysterious.

if dara and nahri don’t get their happy ending together after all they’ve been through I’ll cry
sames, Dara is so problematic but he is trying his gosh darn best and just really loves Nahri. he deserves a redemption arc and love and joy. fingers crossed

Thank you so much, I added almost all of them to my tbr list. The only one I already have read is the martian.

I've been reading s.a. chakraborty's deavabad trilogy and oh man did she have me going for a whole entire book that I was going to have to sit through another love triangle between the main girl and her bad boy/nice guy friend.
instead I got the bad boy written off as a love interest due to his war crimes and a really adorable friendship/ budding romance between Nahri and Ali

@tomvorikandharry tagged me a few months ago and I’m finally able to brain enough to fill these out. Yay. I’m not going to tag people though, because after being awol for so many months, I have no idea who is following me and I don’t want to bug people. If you see this, please feel free to do it and tag me.
First one:
last song: B’Yachad - Mordechai Shapiro
last movie: I have no idea
currently watching: Star Trek: DS9, The Good Place, and The Nanny
currently reading: nothing. I’ve not read a book or doc in many months due to lack of brain. I am going to be starting the new translation of Gluckel of Hamlin’s memoir. I also want to reread the Deavabad Trilogy and write some metas I’ve been thinking about.
currently craving: water, which I will probably never not crave at this point, steak, and outdoor activity.
Second one:
nickname: I don’t have one, unless you count my screen name
zodiac: Cancer
height: 5’3
hogwarts house: If I recall, Ravenclaw. But I’m really not sure, it’s been many years since I was active in that fandom.
last thing i googled: the link to the new translation of Gluckel’s memoir linked above.
song(s) stuck in my head: bits and pieces of various songs, actually. My brain is playing multiple stations and I can’t even tell them apart right now.
number of followers: 79, and I have no idea who most of these folks are, I think. Hi folks! Introduce yourself, if you’d like.
hours of sleep: not enough, probably. My FitBit broke so I have no idea, but I’d guess around five hours interrupted.
lucky number: I don’t have one. I’m rather fond of pi though.
dream job: I don’t know. As a kid/teen I wanted to be an Egyptologist, Currator of the British Museum(I was a kid, I didn’t realize how Problematic that place is), marine biologist, lawyer, and profional re-enactor. Now I’m rather enjoying not working officially and just want to peruse all those things intellectually while crafting.
currently wearing: forest green long-sleeve t-shirt, nearly thread-bare black cotton knit skirt, white with black check ring sling, and a tiny human.
favorite author: it’s a toss up between Terry Pratchett and Shakespeare. The wit and exploration of human nature just calls to me.
favorite instrument: Hurdy-gurdy, bagpipes, cello
aesthetic: I suppose it would be classified as historybounding(I have thoughts on this nominclature, which I may post about at some point.) In reality I dress ‘mom-style’ because I’ve not gotten around to making the clothes I want to wear. That was my 2020 plan, but then I got sick, and now I have to wait for my body to heal and figure out what shape it wants to be. Might get to do it next year.
Favorite song: that often depends on my mood and situation at the time. But I think if I really had to choose one song forever it would be Kol Bayaar
favorite animal noise: tiny meows of kittens, maybe. I don’t know.
random: you’d think this one would be easy, but I’m drawing a blank for what to put. It’s really cold out and that’s preventing me from going outside, which is really irritating.
