Hello! I know you have a lot on your plate, but I'm just wondering about the fic surveys. Are they still in the pipeline, and is there anything we can do to help? Yesterday I was rereading one of the fics I listed and it came to mind. I'm so excited for that fic to be added to the collection because the author doesn't have any works in it yet! Hope you're doing well!

Hi! First of all, your blog is absolutely wonderful! I wish there were a billion more like it for all pairings and fandoms lol. Do you know of any other good supernatural rec blogs?

As long as there were destiel fics, there were also dedicated fic reccers. Some stayed with fandom longer, some moved on faster, so, now we have a mix of active blogs and archived blogs. Here’s small collection of destiel fic rec resources that I’ve come across on tumblr. This is by no means a definite list and you are welcome to add your own resources in the notes! Let’s keep fic reccing craft alive and diverse!

Destiel Fic reccing NOW, currently active blogs in 2023

@profoundbondfanfic - an active and prolific destiel fic rec blog with dedicated mod team. Follow them on tumblr and have a rec every day!

@destielficbasket - a blog that reblogs a wide variety of destiel fic rec posts from other Tumblr blogs. All goods in one place!

@deancasfanficrecs - destiel fic recs and fic rec reblogs, lots of posts to chose from!

@destieltaggedfic - blog full of original themed fic rec posts, sorting destiel fics from different angles.

@mixtapebookclub - a tumblr blog for destiel fic podcast. Thematic podcasts and fic rec lists at the same time. There is also a Mixtape Book Club AO3 collection for your convenience. 

@cocklesdestielfiction - what it says on the tin! They have destiel, but they also have cockles recs and gif sets. Check them out!

@destieltropecollection - a very unique blog that collects themed self recs from the authors. Check out their neatly organized Master List Collection 2017-2022 or follow them to get the latest Destiel Trope Collection 2023 rec lists every day in May.

The Destiel Fan Survey Favs Collection on AO3 contains 2793 fics and 668 bookmarked fics that were chosen by destiel readers in several fic surveys organized by destiel writer @unforth. Check out this vast collection of reader choice fics!

Destiel Fic reccing THEN

@destielmybeatingheart-deactivated - what to say, this was the main blog for destiel fic rec back in the day. Unfortunately, the mod left fandom and later took down the blog and, with it, all their fic rec posts. See this post to appreciate what we used to have. In coming weeks, @destiel-fic-rec-lists will continue to reblog available destielmybeatingheart’s rec lists with updated links to AO3 when possible. You can find them under #creator: destielmybeatingheart tag. 

ask about other spn blogs like ours - this is 10 years old ask and a lot of blogs here are not active anymore or full of dead links, but if they are up, you can still browse them. The list includes some non spn fic rec blogs as well.

i've seen some people express concern that the spn/destiel fandom is dying out. i've had that feeling myself! but SO MANY cool projects have started (or continued), even two years after the finale, and i want to highlight some of them for you!

(sorry for so many links in replies. trying to make sure this post shows up in the tags. stay cool, tumblr.)

@amoreprofoundcon is a fanworks & creators-focused destiel convention (via zoom!) created by fans. the first con was back in march 2022, with a second scheduled for the destiel holiday weekend (nov 5-6)!!

@mixtapebookclub is a podcast focused on destiel fanfiction, featuring a different topic and author each episode!!

the destiel fan favs survey is still going strong (link to the ao3 collection in the replies) and you can find more info at @destielficarchive!! the ao3 collection currently includes 2782 works, submitted by fans over the five years the survey has run.

@destieltropecollection also does a yearly survey where writers can submit their own works that fit a list of various tropes. i love to see writers reccing their own stories!!!

the profound bond discord server (@profoundnet & link to discord in replies) has a gazillion members and is still hoppin'. the tumblr also reblogs members' stories, art, and other creations.

suptober is a fanworks celebration put together by @winchester-reload every october!! you can find this year's contributions in the #suptober22 tag. (suptober is not destiel-specific so you'll find a lot of other great spn art there too.)

tons of challenges and bangs still going strong! there are way too many for me to list here, but profoundnet has a long list on their wiki (link in replies).

@profoundbondfanfic brings you recs and reviews of a new fic every day!! just in case you're having trouble narrowing down over 100,000 fics. cheers to 100k more!!

@makingitupaswegopod is an anthology of destiel podfics! it doesn't look like this tumblr is being updated with each episode, but you can find the podfics embedded in ao3 works or on your favorite podcast platform.

but really, the BIGGEST thing still happening in the destiel fandom—the MOST IMPORTANT thing—is YOU. every artist, writer, reblogger, edit & gif maker, meta analyst, lurker, rec list curator, and friend is a vital part of this community!! <3

Wow, thanks so much for your interest in my poetry! That one of them got stuck in your head is a great compliment indeed ^_^ Sadly I do not have poetry published. Maybe someday I’ll get my ducks in a row and start trying again.

As for fic recs....yes? The problem is there are too many! I’ve been in this fandom...well, this summer it will have been ten years. That is a lot of time to read fic. Especially since I don’t know your tastes, I will direct you to two amazing resources--two of many, truth be told, but these are first to come to mind. Truly, we have the most wonderful fandom full of incredibly generous fans who do spectacular things.

One of them is the Destiel Fan Survey. It sadly has stopped (it was a tremendous amount of work, I gather), but for a few years, it was an annual survey run by @unforth soliciting your fav destiel fics you read that year. The AO3 collection has almost 2800 fics in it plus 600 more bookmarked. The beauty of this collection/survey is that each one is the very favorite of someone in the fandom, so no matter your taste you’re going to find something incredible. I know it may seem like a lot, but given that the ship has over 100,000 fics on AO3 alone, this should be a less daunting pool to dive into.

For a more directed route, try The Mixtape Book Club. It’s a podcast run by @malmuses and @ellen-of-oz in which each episode discusses a trope and several awesome fics that use it. They also have an AO3 collection for ease of searching. Peruse their back catalog and pick whichever episode catches your eye! I believe most of them also have transcripts if listening to podcasts is not your thing.

It’d be remiss of me not to mention that all three of the people I called out here are amazing writers in their own right, so don’t forget to look at what they have to offer, too!

Thank you for putting the Destiel Fan Survey Favs Collection together, I have really enjoyed going through it! Do you perchance still have plans to add the submissions from 2021 to the collection since they were already voted on? Or if that's not something you have the bandwidth for (totally understandable), would you consider letting other fans help out with adding them? I ask because it's been a great resource for finding fics, and I'd love to see some of those underappreciated fics get more attention! <33

Unfortunately, I'll own, I really don't. My life is just so insanely busy right now that I simply don't have the time. I feel bad about it, but at the time I couldn't have predicted that I'd end up bedridden for two+ months and needing back surgery. If that hadn't happened, I'd have had the time to take care of it, but it's been two years and I'm literally still playing catch-up on my day job for those two months, there's just no way.

Maybe if a miracle happened and I suddenly found myself with 40+ hours to spare, I could try? but I can honestly say I wouldn't expect it.

I'm so sorry. I've never stopped feeling guilty about my inability to finish that, but life lifed at me, and I did what I could.

Favorite Destiel Fic Survey Collection on AO3 is an ever-growing treasure trove of beloved fics, but it suffers the losses along with the fandom. Here’s the post about fics that were deleted from AO3 and the collection in past year. 

And now the saddest news of them all, following authors have deleted or partially deleted their fics from AO3 (links go to relevant posts on @destielficarchive) - sir_kingsley, DarknessBound and HazelDomain.

The sadness and desperation rolled all over my dash when we learned that destiel fic author deathbanjo aka beenghosting has deleted all their fics from AO3. The main posts about deletion here and here.
