WIP WEDNESDAY
No sneak peak as I don't have anything I'm happy with spoiling but-
The tbbw rewrite is going well, considering that's the wordcount for 11 completed chapters and 4 still in progress.

continue being a little mean to toh fans please it is really irritating how some act like its got the best writing of any modern cartoon
Daawwwww I don't have it in me. TOH fans love it for a reason, and there are legitimately good moments! It's just not the most complex or well-written show out there—which it doesn't need to be—but I also totally get your exhaustion. It gets tiring seeing people praise it so highly over and over again when it's just like...fine. It didn't do nothing but it also didn't do something, you know? It's main couple is cute and queer, but that's pretty much all there is to them. It has a fun cast of characters, but they all tend to fall into archetypes. Luz is a sweet main character, but she doesn't have any real flaws and kinda takes a back seat to Hunter and Eda (the white people lol). Her foil with Philip was interesting...but then they kinda backed off and went the "you and Belos are nothing alike" direction.
((I'm also going to answer this anon with another: ))
And It's not that an unsympathetic villian is bad, or that Belos would even be sympathetic with added backstory, it's just that...there were a lot of interesting things to explore with his character that were left hanging.
Like, while he's definitely not at all a good person, it's intriguing that he would bother to recreate his brother over and over again knowing that each time the grimwalker was going to betray him. It's intriguing that he was even willing to kill his brother to begin with (though Caleb was super underutilized in general). Like, you can give a villain depth without justifying or victimizing them (hi Finnegran from tdp, I'll also add Spider Queen & LBD here). So it just feels like a missed opportunity all across the board. It's still surprising to me that we got a confirmation on the Wittebane backstory through an unrelated background character, rather than Philip himself (who had literally possessed a main character, and mindscapes had already been well-established....the pieces were all there me thinks).
And obviously it's like, people can love something despite it's flaws, and they can cherish it for the good it has, but they still don't need to praise it as an ultimate form of media, you know? We don't need to pretend toh was this dark and complex story—it was just a story a lot of people liked and resonated with. Which I'm glad it's there for those people, and I'm glad there are options when it comes to queer pieces of media!
That said the show with the best writing of any modern cartoon is The Dragon Prince (streaming on Netflix).

Oh!!! OH!!! Them not knowing each other opens up SO MUCH. I wonder, would Hob know Dream At All before Dream reaches out after Burgress? Would Death ever explain more about who she is, who her siblings are?? It’s such a good idea!!! Also the dynamic between Dream and Hob is GREAT, the idea that Dream is trying to mold this perfect weapon out of someone who heMs wanted companionship with for so long…. And Hob is doing his best to be gentle to keep this relationship going but it’s his brutality that seems to interest Dream the most…. THE YEARNING!!!! THE POSSIBLE MANIPULATION!!!! I ADORE IT!!!!
I think Death would have been a tiny bit more forthcoming with information, at least in so far that she has maybe mentioned that she has family, siblings. Also she's tried introducing Dream to Hob (which Dream refused) so she has probably mentioned her "brother who needs a friend", who then never showed up but - now that he has, Hob is delighted. He can see the family resemblance, the favoring of black wardrobe, the aura of power. His next meeting with Death will be in 2089, so he's happy to have someone new to talk to about his life, his whole life, not just the most recent installment he's living. Death's brother looks...rough. He looks starved, for one, and there are bruises under his eyes that speak of an exhaustion that is so bone-deep that no amount of sleep alone will fix it. He looks haunted, and dangerous. There's a wild glint in his eyes, like tiny red stars that glow from within. Hob isn't afraid. He can't die. And beneath his jaded exterior, this man is beautiful.
"So. You're Death's brother. What's your name, then?"
"I am. Morpheus. King of Dreams and Nightmares." the man says with a tone of voice that is full of gravitas, but also a hint of amusement. His eyes are fixed on Hob, waiting for his reaction. Hob feels his eyes bulge a bit at that title and he leans forward, wetting his lips in excitement. The King of Dreams! What a wonder! Hob is delighted.
"Pleasure to meet you, Morpheus. Your majesty. What do you prefer? But I warn you, I am not a fan of monarchy and a peasant at heart. So forgive me if I, ah, behave like a boor."
He winks cheekily at the other and sees his nostrils flare in irritation. He does not seem angry, though. He looks... curious.
"Morpheus is fine. I will not stand on ceremony with one I...would like to call... friend. Hob Gadling."

i lost the battle of wills and made zelda ocs. i'm actually super excited about them aaaaa
they were both orphaned when calamity ganon came, and they found each other and became each other's family instead <33 i want to make a gerudo, zora, and goron too but i'm waiting for the Inspiration to strike me (hopefully before art fight comes around asjdhsdfj)
[id: reference sheets for a couple legend of zelda ocs, a rito and a hylian. the rito, fesyvi [faye-see-vee], is primarily gray and white. she has black patches on her shoulders; a black-and-white tail, ponytail, and braids (two that go over her shoulders); a black tuft of "hair" over her face; a single black stripe from her eye to her beak; and freckles. there are pink feathers at the outward corner of her eye and the ends of her braids. she a big wooden bead in each braid, red hairbands, and golden eyes. she's wearing a yellow shirt with leather straps, a red cloth on her waist, a blue midsection, and pants with purple, green, and pink patches sewn on them. there's a drawing of just her outstretched wing to better show the colors. she's standing in a wide stance, one hand on her hip, the other lifted as she holds one finger up smiling.
the hylian is atai [uh-tie]. he is black, with dark hair in a wolf's tail and an undercut. his eyes are dark brown. he has a single pink earring, which has a black-and-white feather connected to it, and a leather cord shell necklace; both of these have a separate drawing to show them in more detail. he's wearing a black hylian hood, a light blue tunic with purple squiggly markings on the sleeves and hem, green arm wraps, dark blue pants, and pinkish-red boots. he has a red sash, a belt with a pouch, leather knee and elbow pads, and black fingerless gloves. his nails are painted bright green. he's standing similarly to fesyvi, with one hand on his hip and the other holding a finger up, also smiling. end id]
