Steps To Take Before You Donate:
A guide from someone who works at a thrift store and has seen some things. This is generalized and not specific to the store I work at.
The first step for ALL of these sections is to look at what you have. Is it something you would give to a friend or relative? No? Then don’t donate it. (Examples of things not to donate: moldy clothes, a soiled pair of pants, sticky dishes, broken mirror)
Clothes and Linens (aka soft lines)
Look to see if your clothes are wet, moldy, or have bodily fluids on them. These types of items will end up at the landfill if you donate them. Just save employees the horror and throw away your own garbage
Don’t donate used underwear or socks, but bras are fine
If the clothes are dirty, wash them (please)
If you want to be super helpful to processors, separate halloween costumes and shoes into different bags or boxes. These items all get processed separately in stores
Donate it even if its ‘poor quality’. Clothing not sold in stores gets sent to textile recyclers
All of this applies to linens (such as blankets and sheets) as well
Electronics
If you have any large items, call the store ahead of time to make sure they are willing to take it. Not all stores have big warehouses for large items. If not, try a different store or chain
Check for any chewed on, or exposed wire. Thrift stores can’t sell these items for safety purposes
If you don’t have a wire or charger for the electronic, ensure that it will stay with the item (tape or rubber bands will work well for this) if an item can’t be tested in store to see if it works, it will not be sold in a typical retail store. It will likely be sent straight to an outlet store
If you are planning on donating a TV (small or big) call the store first, some are able to take them and some are not. Check with them first so they don’t have to turn you away after you get there
If the computer doesn’t work completely, donate it anyway, most thrift stores send them to get refurbished and their memory wiped
Books/Media
Do your books have mold on them or are the pages damp? Don’t donate them
Are the disks so scratched up that they don’t play? Don’t donate them
Stores do accept VHS tapes and cassettes!
If you are donating a bunch of loose disks without cases, keep them together in a bag or a box
If you only have a case for a game (NOT DVD), donate it! People actually buy those
Separate your books and media from other items you are donating, as these get processed separately
Shoes (usually sorted into hard lines but may vary depending on the chain)
If your shoes have bodily fluids on them, or even just some left over dog poop, either clean them or don’t donate them. No one wants to touch that
Even if your shoes have been worn to hell and back (and are not gross), donate them! Just like clothes, if they aren’t sold, most stores will recycle them
Do your best to keep pairs together! Either in a box, tie the laces together, or use a rubber band!
(We do actually love getting shoes donated in their boxes - it makes it a lot easier to sort than a giant garbage bag full of loose shoes)
If you aren’t sure what category shoes fall into at the store you are donating to, just ask! We would much rather that than find shoes in unexpected places!
Furniture
Does it require repairs? Don’t donate it, try a local yard sale site instead
Is it big? Call ahead and make sure the store has space for it
Not every store accepts mattresses/beds/bed frames. Call ahead and ask
If you have a rug, has an animal gone to the bathroom on it? Yeah? Don’t donate that
Side note: if you just bought a big piece of furniture from a thrift store, bring some buddies to help you pick it up. And a big enough vehicle. Our donation door workers are still people and can only do so much to move a giant glass table and fit it into your kia soul when you decide to pick it up 30 minutes before we close
Other Items (aka hard lines)
If a baby is meant to sit or lay in the item, we can’t sell that for safety reasons, even if its brand new
Some stores will sell helmets if they are in good condition, but not all stores. Double check before you drop them off
If you are donating dish ware or china, make sure it is washed and clean. No one wants to touch sticky mixing bowls with a mysterious substance inside
Wrap your dishes or any fragile items and place them in boxes, it helps make sure they dont break before they get processed
If its broken, don’t donate it. Think: is this something I would give a friend?
Put your jewelry together and separate from other items. That way we dont only find one earing
No already lit or used candles that are more than halfway gone, find ways to up cycle them, or see if a friend would like them instead!
No one wants your used bedroom toys. Please no. Im begging you just throw them away if you dont want them
If there are nails sticking out of it, or someone could get hurt on it, wrap it and write a note. Same goes for knives. I can’t even begin to express how many times I’ve almost cut off a finger while reaching into a box of donations
Other Tips
If its sticky, wipe it down
If its fragile, put it in a box not a bag
If its sharp, wrap it
If its multiple pieces, tape it or find a way to keep it all together before you donate it
If you aren’t sure if a store will take it, just call and ask!

Searching my heart
Danny ended in a really weird situation, first of all he died, but not really, Sam & Tucker thought it would be more safe for him if the world thinks he died. And he agreed, first bad decision.
So, they set up everything, Tucker was in charge of deceive the government and doctors while Sam was in charge of creating a "potion" capable of making him inactive for a while and also simulate a purely red color for his blood, rendering his core and ectoplasm invisible before any more questions were asked. (She owed Frostbite and Undergrowth a favor)
Although he could stop his heart and all his vital functions, the sight of a medical wing and the doctors performing a supposed dissection on him would make him go into panic instantly and ruin everything, or made them analyze him further, showing the inhuman traits.
And maybe that was the problem, that Sam had to pretend to be a doctor and claim that she had already done the operation. But when it was time, everyone forgot that moment in their childhood where a 12-year-old Danny decided to be an "organ donor" to help do good in the world. And he forgot, the idiot.
When the doctors pushed Sam to deal with the "high priority" deceased who had donated his organs in perfect state. well, she couldn't do anything but watch as they removed her best friend's heart, lungs, liver, etc, by doing a grin. (At least he didn't agree in eye donation or something worse) Thank goodness the potion had rendered his core invisible or she would have been forced to murder.
The good part? The doctors were so concerned with moving the organs in time for the operations that they didn't check anything other than blood type and that it weren't decomposing, and Danny had his core so the organs would regrow, surely.
Worst part? Now they had to track ectoplasm filled organs to their receiver's and stabilize the ectoplasm before it saw them as invaders and kill them, or worse, evolve but since Danny was now legally dead he couldn't tell them why.
And yes, his organs wouldn't kill them instantly, maybe it would make them liminal and pretend to function normally for a while but they were HALFA organs it was dangerous to have them in uncontaminated humans, ¿was he creating a new human civilization? Damn
So now Danny was in Gotham, where his liver was being sold on the black market, and what the hell, Tucker, what do you mean you didn't do a background check of the hospital? The assholes sell half of his organs! (And no Sam, is not fun)
At least Gotham was close to the hospital, so the majority of the receiver's should be close, innocent or not; now the question was how did you tell Red Hood that you had to interrogate people on the black market to found your own heart and extras or a whole new human species would be born? And half of this new species would be filled with criminals or corrupted people who buy organs IN THE BLACK MARKET
Really, so much for a good action...

Lordaeron must have a lot of empty homes right now after the war... they're slowly rebuilding what's important first and cleaning up residue Blight waste, maybe trying to collect fundings so they can import the resources they lost acess go in that massive scar across Tirisfal
And also trying not to die again to all the dangerous crap found in that land
They have different needs than the living too so probably not as much farming and fishing needed to sustain the whole City... maybe for whoever non-undead is living there, and it could be a financial export? But they might be more concerned with protecting themselves from the elements and preserving their dead bodies

Whenever I see the reports of orcas sinking yachts, I keep thinking of the dolphins from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. But in contrast to the dolphins giving us a sweet note of "So long, and thanks for all the fish", the orcas leave and their message says "Fuck Capitalism and Eat The Rich."

I CANT USE CSS ON ARTFIGHT...............
#I WAS REALLY HOPING TO FIX THE FUCKING. PARAGRAPH WIDTH. SIGH#idk why but it stretches across the ENTIRE page like. it takes up the full width of the browser and it BOTHERS ME. ON ALL THE PAGES#i could try manually putting shift breaks but im worried it might not look so good on mobile. ugghh... auyggghhh.....#im already learning CSS and API so i thought i could put it to good use but. AUGH#this whole time ive had to go into the inspect panel myself and change the padding so i dont have to read the length of the screen#like a fucking typewriter... i would have also loved to use custom fonts and animations......#i did find a guide for BBCode which the site uses on default and it covers basic styling but its not the same. sniffle#you CAN unlock CSS if you donate $25 to the page which seems fair. and if i could do it i would but. i do not have any way of#sending or receiving money online </3 i really need to figure out how to do that so i can set up comms like i said i would last summer#but it intimidates me.... and im already kept on a short leash when it comes to that so it feels like a lot of things could go wrong#i think toyhouse allows CSS or some sort of code...?? i remember seeing some oc pages with custom layouts#if thats the case i'll try fiddling with it but im not very familiar with using toyhouse so thatll take a while#(thanks again for the code sal ^_^ ill put it on my pin once its ready but im trying to learn my way around the site heh ;;)#at least i can use my pixel dividers.. ive been digging around for pixels to use and found some really cute ones#yapping

i find it interesting how many people seem to be primarily mentioning tragedies in palestine and the like exclusively for the purpose of putting down other issues in the world, some genuinely less relevant (a tv show) or some that are like, also genuine issues (domestic terrorism??? i saw someone complain that people are concerned about another january 6 right wing riot when palestine is happening when like.... both things are worth discussing???)

Just saw a post telling people not to donate ‘fast fashion’ to thrift stores because its poor quality and they are already over run with fast fashion. I don’t even know where to start to explain why this is a bad take. But I guess I’ll attempt! (For context - I work at a thrift store that gets a LOT of donations every day!)
Everything that gets donated to a chain thrift store is processed and sorted. Yes even at those bin stores where you can pay by the pound for safety. If an item you’ve donated is deemed too poor quality for the store you dropped it off at, it doesn’t get thrown away, it gets sent to stores that don’t have the luxury of getting a bunch of donations every day.
When I say ‘too poor quality’ I mean in context to what else gets donated. For example: my store is in the middle of Rich People Town. So we get a lot of name brand clothes and a lot of high quality material clothes. So of course that is our first choice to put out on the sales floor when we get it. Someone else may have donated a slightly worn 50/50 cotton/polyester t-shirt that is still perfectly wearable, but we have better options at our store. So we send it to a store that *doesn’t* get those options as often.
If you think the shirt is so poor quality that absolutely no one would ever want it… well maybe you’re right… but you should still donate it anyway. Heres the process for clothes that aren’t sold at Goodwill (I cant speak on this topic for other chains though):
If clothes are not sold at a normal retail store after 5 weeks, they are sent off if an outlet store (typically pay by the pound). The point of outlet stores are to sell at ultra low prices to keep as much out of landfills as possible. If they still dont sell at an outlet store, the next step is auctioning it. The clothes are sold in lots for fairly low prices. The last stop for clothes that dont sell even at auction is that they are sent off to a textile recycler. So all non-ruined clothes eventually get used, even if its ‘poor-quality’
4. The ONLY clothing you should not donate is anything wet/moldy/covered in mildew or god forbid please do not donate clothes that have ANY type of bodily fluids on them. No one wants your kids pooped pants, the shoes you accidentally threw up on, or any uuhhh stained bedroom attire (all real things I’ve had donated). THESE are the only types of items that dont get put through this process. These types of clothes do get sent to landfills… especially if your kids poop is still in the pants…

In case you lost it - a link to the eSIM donation guide. Even if you feel sick and powerless, you can at least do this. And even if you really, really can't donate, you can always at least share this and remind others.
