For the fanfic ask game: Legolas had promised if Aragorn came into his own, he would bring the city birds that sang and trees that did not die.
And birds and trees he brought, birds of many colors and voices and trees of every kind, whose wood was strong and enduring, and also many flowering vines, sprawling shrubs, and sweet-scented flowers—the effect was, in Gimli's opinion, rather too much.
"The plants have obscured the masonry," Gimli said, and he pointed to the wall nearest them. "See there—you cannot make out the scroll-work upon the bricks, for the vines cover it! The stone-smiths of the Mountain labored for hours upon a single scroll, and now it is for naught, for no one can see it," he said, folding his arms across his chest as Legolas began to frown.
"Each brings out the beauty of the other," Aragorn said tactfully, placing a hand upon each of his friend's shoulders, "and the partnership of the Wood and the Mountain has made the City fairer than ever it was and will stand as a testament to the friendship of all of the Free Peoples of Middle-earth."
Send me an ask with the first sentence of a fanfic and I’ll write the next five.

11, 17, and 29 for the ao3 wrapped asks?
Thank you for the ask! <3
11. What work took you the longest to write?
The Fading Light (G, Elanor & Sam, 3.1k) took quite a while to come together. I started it in the summer and didn't finish it until a couple weeks ago because I kept having writer's block. It was one of those fics that you open and close a bunch of times and only add five words each time you open it, despite having lots of feelings about it. I finally realized that I needed to scrap my initial plan for it and start (relatively) fresh.
17. Your favorite character to write this year?
It's been a year of many, many (many) Frodo fics because my Frodo feelings apparently have no end. And Andreth is a perennial fave, of course.
29. Favorite line/passage you wrote this year?
I answered this one here, but I'll go ahead and do another one that I had been debating between:
From Over Seas of Starlight (G, Frodo & Gandalf, 3.7k):
Frodo clutched the railing of the ship, looking over the side of the ship to the fathomless water below. The ocean seemed much greater than it had from the docks of Mithlond, and the stars shone across its wide expanse, stippling the darkness with pinpoints of light until it seemed as if the ship drifted through a sea of starlight. He wondered how far down the roots of the sea lay and what else might be found there—what creatures swam in the darkest depths, alive since the waking of the world. He tilted his head back to look up at the sky. The stars in the West looked brighter and clearer than Frodo had ever remembered them looking in Middle-earth. He peered up into the dark bowl of the night sky, feeling as if the pinpricks of light that pierced it were so close that he might touch them and slip his finger through the veil of night into the holes of light.

For your prompt requests!
Galadriel, Maglor, and Finrod 16. “Just Stay” Spring
I’d love some fluffy cousin relationship feels, but I don’t mind if there’s some angst mixed in.
Sorry if this is a bit vague, if you need more let me know? Or if it’s not your thing that’s totally fine too!
“Just stay,” Artanis sighed, throwing up her hands in defeat. “Clearly nothing I do will get you to leave my room, so you might as well stop pretending you’re packing up to go.”
Findaráto grinned at her. “Why, sister, how gracious you are!”
Makalaurë smirked and dropped his bag on her bed most dramatically. “However shall we thank you, O fairest maiden of the Noldor?”
Artanis scowled, snapping, “By shoving over, that’s how! This is my bed!”
“But Artë, it’s a sleepover,” Findaráto wheedled. “That means our illustrious cousin will be sleeping over you!”
“What in Arda do you m— Umfff!”
She never managed to finish her sentence, for as soon as she opened her mouth, both Makalaurë and Findaráto pounced, jumping on top of her in a fit of giggles one might expect from little children, not the grown néri they were. (Well, barely grown.)
Yet once she got her breath back, Artanis couldn’t help but laugh along. Even if Makalaurë was not her favorite cousin, she still loved him, and adored her biggest brother, and it was nice to act like carefree children again, if only just for one night.

How about Celebrian and Nerdanel for the blorbo ask?
Tumblr media
NERDANEL:
ooo okay so i'm about to have some spicy opinions but... Most fandom takes are incorrect. The fandom tends to be very very Feanorian-centric and very Feanorian-positive and I think her portrayal tends to be really affected as a result. I think a lot of takes have her as a perfect (or at the very least, very very good) mother, who stands by her children until the last, supports them even after they leave her, etc etc. Not to mention how weirdly often I've seen her getting back together with Feanor post-reembodiment. One of the things I find really interesting about her is specifically the fact that she choses to leave Feanor & does not go to middle earth. That she lives in the house of Indis, who her husband despises. That she, basically, turns away from him in every way she might. And I think a lot of the "Feanorians as a big happy family" takes kind of ignore that. (Let! Nerdanel! Be! Super! Divorced!)
BRAINROT!! My last two fics on ao3 will speak to this. Obsessed with her rn.
Tumblr media
Celebrian:
I am, actually, normal about her.
She's neat. :) Her and Elrond are cute and sad. I don't realllyyy have strong feelings about her but I like her when she shows up.
Thank you for the ask!! <3

Maglor and Elrond, ‘poured forth their joy in music and song’, and Rivendell for the writing prompts?
Elrond & Maglor, G, 1k (from this prompt list)
Elrond watched Maglor’s fingers as he plucked at the strings of the harp. He was always entranced by Maglor’s hands, long-fingered, graceful, and elegant, capable of creating melodies of surpassing beauty, and yet they were the same hands that had wrought violence unthinkable. The same hands that could spin stories from strings had laid the havens to waste until the streets were stained scarlet.
Fear and awe and a strange sense of peace—Elrond could little name the emotions he felt when Maglor was near, but these he could identify. Beauty and terror, comfort and pain. He never knew quite what he felt around Maglor, but he was strangely drawn to him, like a moth to flame.
He and Elros had been saved, but he did not know why, and he was too frightened to ask.
Maglor began to sing in the High Tongue, and though Elrond did not understand the words that spun through the air, he could understand the shapes of their meaning—the joy of life and growth, and the dance of renewal and rebirth.
Elrond stood in awe, transfixed by the beauty of the song and the lilt of the harp. He felt almost as if he could touch the music, if he bent his mind and will hard enough to the task. He felt Maglor’s voice in his chest, in his heart, in the pulse of the air around him. Everything listened, bending ear to the power of the song.
The strange words took form, and Elrond heard new voices join the song. The sweet, pure voices of nightingales sang from the shadows, and Elrond caught a glimpse of fluttering wings. White petals of night-blooming jasmine bloomed upon the pillars, and their light scent filled the room.
Elrond reached out to stroke a petal of the pale flower that grew before his feet, twisting upward until its petals brushed against his chest. His fingers passed through the petals, and the flower melted away at his touch.
“It is only an illusion,” Maglor said softly, and the spell was broken. “The same kind of illusion that Finrod wove in Tol-in-Gaurhoth.”
“Where is it—where are the flowers and birds from?”
Maglor was silent for a moment. “They once filled the gardens of Nargothrond, before its fall.”
Elrond considered this. “Can you teach me to weave illusions with songs?”
Maglor smiled and beckoned him near. “I can teach you that and more.”
---
“Will you not stay?” Elrond asked.
“Only for the night,” Maglor said.
They stood beneath the eaves of the Last Homely House. Nearby, the waterfall poured into the starlit pool that lay behind the slope the house stood upon. Evening birds called softly to one another, hidden among the boughs of the trees, and the faint sounds of laughter and music spilled from the doors of the house. In the valley around them, all was painted in the soft purple of twilight.
In the silver light that fell from the lanterns hanging overhead, Maglor looked younger than he had for many centuries, and the soft shadows of twilight removed the lines of care from his face.
“Will you join us in the Hall of Fire?” Celebrían asked, nodding at the harp fastened to Maglor’s back. “It is Midsummer and a time of celebration here. We would welcome your craft. There are few among us now who can sing and play with the skill of the Elder Days, and it is long since the Hall of Fire has been graced with such skill.” She turned and smiled at Elrond. “Perhaps Elrond will join you. He does not often sing anymore, and little of the lays of the First Age, but perhaps now that you are here he might be convinced.”
Elrond pressed Celebrían’s fingers gratefully. Ever gracious, she had smoothed away any uncertainty Maglor might have felt.
“Please, join us,” Elrond said, gesturing for Maglor to enter the house. “Tonight, we shall sing as we once did.”
Maglor smiled.
---
Inside the Hall of Fire, the fire burned low in the hearth, little needed with the warmth the summer sun had laid upon the house. The lanterns glowed brightly upon the walls, and the faces of the gathered Elves were merry, for they had just finished the Midsummer Feast and gathered now for tales and songs of joy and wonder.
Maglor set his harp between his knees and placed his fingers over the strings. Elrond readied his lute, waiting for Maglor to begin. Maglor’s fingers brushed over the strings of his harp, and a few quiet notes drifted into the hall.
The hall fell silent.
Maglor plucked the strings louder, his hands rippling over the harp like rain. At his glance, Elrond joined in.
Maglor began to sing with a voice that held the power and gentleness of the sea—now the voice of the ocean’s might and majesty, now the voice of the softly spilling waves. Elrond joined his voice with Maglor’s, weaving in and out of the ebb and flow of Maglor’s voice.
Images began to fill the hall. Elrond scarcely heard the gasps of the gathered Elves, so consumed was he by the power of Maglor’s voice and the strength of the song they sang.
Golden light filtered through the hall. It was the light of high noon on a Midsummer’s day in Valinor. This Elrond knew in his heart, though he had never seen the shores of Aman. If he looked closely enough, he could almost see the golden leaves of Laurelin spread above the heads of the gathered Elves.
The sun-golden and star-silver petals of elanor sprung up from the floor, their star-shaped heads nodding in a gentle breeze. Between them sprouted the fragrant stems of lissuin , filling the hall with their light scent.
Elrond heard now the soft splashing of waves upon the shoreline and the distant cry of gulls winging overhead, and his heart was stirred with longing for a distant country he had never seen.
Maglor turned to him and smiled, and in his eyes shone bright, unrestrained joy.
Warmth pooled in Elrond’s chest as he smiled back.

3, 9, and 13 for the book asks?
Thanks for the ask!
3. What were your top five books of the year?
Of books new to me this year and in no particular order:
Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries
A River Enchanted/A Fire Endless
Ten Thousand Stitches
Howl's Moving Castle
Persuasion
9. Did you get into any new genres?
Not really, although I tried a couple new genres. I read a couple contemporary romance novels (The Dead Romantics and The Seven-Year Slip) by Ashley Poston and loved them, but I think it's more a case of loving her writing than loving the genre.
And I finally dipped my toe into historical romance and immediately realized it's Not For Me.
13. What were your least favorite books of the year?
I dropped most of the ones I disliked partway through, but of the ones I forced myself to finish: The Jane Austen Project and The Last Heir to Blackwood Library.
The Jane Austen Project was all around terrible, with shoddy worldbuilding, cardboard characters, and lackluster romance. And I will uh. never think of Henry Austen the same way again.
The Last Heir of Blackwood Library was, imo, sloppily written and used the amnesia trope as a crutch for actually fleshing out the plot, characters, and relationships. I'm not a fan of the amnesia trope to begin with, so it really hit a sour note for me.
