i thought the poll was really interesting, thank you for sharing!! im watching my first korean drama show right now and really enjoying learning more about korean language and culture! i didn't know that makeup was such an expectation-- all the actresses seem to have really subtle makeup, and in one storyline wearing makeup is sort of symbolic of a character's freedom. maybe it's just this one show, or maybe tv and life are just different? either way your poll has sparked lots of questions for me and i hope to keep learning :) thanks again!

idk which part of the world you’re from, but assuming you’re from a Western country, South Korea has a vastly different makeup style. All the patterns you’d look for in Western makeup are different from what Korean makeup would do. I would personally say Koreans like the ‘natural look’ more than anything else?

And there are definitely people who feel liberated by wearing makeup! I personally can’t relate, but I love it when women enjoy traditionally feminine hobbies. We really need to address the internalized misogyny!! It’s ok to love makeup!

What I felt upset by was how mandatory it is. I hate the texture of foundation or mascara, but apparently, it’s just something I need to overcome as a woman. Women need to know how to look pretty. I'm tired of people telling me I should get double eyelid plastic surgery or a nose job because it’ll increase my chances of getting employed or getting a boyfriend.
