Shipping in dunmeshi is interesting because of the different maturation rates of the characters. Like Marcille is the second oldest in the group in terms of physical years at 50 but is stated to be developmentally at about 20. Senshi and Chilchuck are close in maturation despite being the oldest and second youngest of the adults in the party (not counting Falin as she's gone for most of the story).

Thinking about this because while I get the appeal of laios and chilchuck, I personally can't ship it because while Chil and Laios are the closest in years lived with a 2 year age gap, the fact that one is a clueless 20-something and the other is a divorced, union-leading father of 3 adult children whose favorite food is ale keeps me from personally seeing it.

Personally, I prefer Chil and Senshi because they're both middle aged (and several other aspects of their dynamic), but you can totally argue that it would be weird for Senshi to date a man thats 84 years younger than him.

It really just comes down to whether you care about maturation, physical years, both, or neither. IMO there is no right answer as long as you stick to the adults, but its just interesting to see the differences.

A seriously underrated part in the dungeon meshi manga to me is the Marcille and Laios moments during the whole familiar/griffin debacle.

Idk when Laios says “she says it’s easiest to relax this way” and “She’s doing her best. That’s what.” it really warms my heart. Marcille can be pretty self conscious/uncertain at times, and him reassuring her is nice to see.

He stands up for Falin in a similar way when people were calling her weird when they were children, and as someone who *is* unabashedly weird, he has nothing to lose with associating with people being shunned for behaving unconventionally, and doesn’t give much care to other people’s opinions. It’s just little interactions like this that make me enjoy this series so much!
