I just love how casually dragons are shown in Soulsborne games. I mean, yes they are relevant in Dark Souls/Elden Ring as apart of the story, but how they are shown…it’s so different from a lot of fantasy.
When there are dragons in a fantasy story, it’s often a big deal. They put dragons all over the book covers and in the titles because guys!! There are dragons!! Big fantasy creatures!! Much excitement! And then they’ll show these dragons in a light that paints them like the most dramatic thing you’ve ever seen. Everyone is staring in awe! They are so rare it’ll be just one or two of them, and the whole world explodes with their majesty!
But in Soulsborne they are just…there. They’ll randomly land on a bridge in a DS game or fly in droves around a castle. People don’t even care. They’re just giant, annoying birds that sometimes decide to attack you. Occasionally there will be a Special Dragon (tm) but he’s only special because he can breathe poison or he ate the abyss or something. In Elden Ring there are just hundreds of dragons flying around big tornados just like it’s a normal Sunday. Maybe there’s one nesting near a lake or whatever. Oh no. What will we ever do. Yawn.
But the best part? Half the time these Soulsborne dragons are ten times more majestic and beautiful and unique then half of the fantasy dragons that appear in the books/films/shows that make a huge deal out of them. So, you still get awestruck. It’s just that you should be used to them, and that’s why it’s set up that way. It’s bloody effective, isn’t it? Heh.
If you are a woman who plays Elden Ring, PLEASE REBLOG THIS!!!!
I have not met a single woman irl who plays Elden Ring, and it saddens me. I don’t know many women in general who are gamers. Hell, I’ve only met one other serious female gamer in my life
I’m NOT saying this as a pick me sort of thing. The beauty of streamers is that since we can see them online, it gives us the illusion that female gamers are everywhere. But we are not. We are in the vast minority.
So please, if you are a woman and play Elden Ring, reblog this! Female gamers unite, we need more representation!!
And can we appreciate the badass women of Elden Ring while we’re at it??? We couldn’t have made it through the game without the guidance of multiple women. And also THANK YOU FROMSOFT for not sexualizing any women in the game. I LOVE WOMEN RAHHHHH
Tumblr wouldn’t let me add any more pics, I love all women in Elden ring (except Marika for obvious reasons)
sort of re: last reblog, remember that post i made not long ago about how i'm jealous of people who can make OCs who are basically their blorbos or OTP with the serial number filed off? because so many times i think of my stupid cute and soft scenarios and AUs for mohg and miquella and go "at this point i should probably just create OCs that are like them"
but the thing is, mohg and miquella's entire thing is so perfect as it is that if i were to make OCs based on them, they'd just be literally the exact goddamn same 💀
also i'm not good at world-building and don't particularly enjoy it so it's so much easier and more enjoyable for me to insert OCs into an already existing world that someone else has built and figured out, so i only have to do as much worldbuilding as i feel like
a scene that lives rent-free in my head is Radahn entering Sellia for the first time. This huge, imposing warrior, son of Radagon, entering the town gate sideways because he's so wide, towering over the sorcerers, and he's like "I must learn to levitate so I don't crush my horse 😟 he is my best friend and I love him. teach me the ways. I'll cut off my feet if it helps."
BABY RADAHN LEARNING HES GETTING TOO BIG TO RIDE HIS HORSEY AND CRYING TO HIS MAMA
