I love epiphytes! In tropical Australia we have Staghorns, Elkhorns and Crow's Nest Ferns growing in trees. In the tropical America's it's bromeliads, including pineapples(!!), filling the same ecological niche. Incredible to think pineapples are actually a tree dweller in their natural habitat.

Diel dynamics of multi-omics in elkhorn fern provides new insights into weak CAM photosynthesis
Crassulacean acid metabolism (CAM) has high water-use efficiency (WUE), which is widely recognized to have evolved from C(3) photosynthesis. Different plant lineages have convergently evolved CAM, but the molecular mechanism underlying the C(3)-to-CAM evolution remains elusive. Platycerium bifurcatum (elkhorn fern) provides an opportunity to study molecular changes underlying the transition from C(3) to CAM photosynthesis, because these two modes of photosynthesis occur in this species, with... http://dlvr.it/SlXvn4

More show-stopping orchids, and a few more plants from around Seattle’s Volunteer Park Conservatory! Staghorn ferns and airplants are two big favorites of mine, and the Conservatory did not disappoint in those regards, with four massive Platycerium bifurcatum (elkhorn) ferns throughput the building, and an entire room devoted to bromeliads!
Someday, I hope to have an airplant colony as large as the ones I saw there.

My (Short) Plant Wishlist! Some of the plants I would love to have in the future.
Any Ivy Plant- Ironically this super common plant is not one I have. I’d love a lighter colored one, but just have not found one I like yet.
Staghorn Fern- Love the broad-leafed ferns, and I adore these ones. Have myself a Birds-Nest Fern, so I would love an Elk/Stag Horn one!
Polka-Dot Plant- HAD several of these but for one reason or another couldn’t keep them. My hunt for a perfect red one is NOT over!
Flowering Maple/Ablution- Love these and have forever. So badly want one and one day, probably next spring I will pick one up.
There are certainly more on this list. These four are just the ones that come to my head and are NOT African Violets. Thought I would share this with you, and some pretty pictures. Even though I just found them off goggle and they are NOT mine.
