Mercury is the type of dude to gather everyone’s attention at the mall just to show off how Emerald is hands down the best girl around and no one can tell me otherwise.
Mercury:*on a table* Everybody listen up! The girl sitting down right here is Emerald; the best girlfriend by far.
Emerald:*blushing* Get off the table!!!!
Mercury:She’s not even doing anything special today. It just so happens she wakes up this gorgeous. That’s right, doesn’t even have to work at it.
Emerald:*broken* I’m begging you....
Mercury:Today she told me to order her a salad which confused. Last time I checked she perfect the way looked, and those hips tell 👏no👏 lies👏!
Emerald:*face down on the table*
Mercury:I don’t know where she gets all those insecurities from when her smile can make the blind weep tears of joy. Don’t get me wrong she can have an attitude, but who doesn’t love a woman that can stand for themselves?
Emerald:*dead*
Mercury:I’m convinced the actual gem was named after how perfect she is. I don’t understand why people always gush over diamonds when they’re white and basic. Add some color in your life and get an Emerald.
Yang:*in the distance* Your last name isn’t Black for no reason!
Mercury:You’re damn right it isn’t!
Emerald:Oh my god *trying not to laugh*
Mercury:Alright I’ve taken enough of your time everyone. Have a wonderful day. *sits down*

So I kind of went a more partners route with this, but given the song and scene I think it fits okay. Hope you like it!
Scene: Just before walking into the dance in “Burning the Candle”.
"Seriously?"
"Justshut up and stay still."
Mercurylet out a groan, but remained still as Emerald helped adjust his tie. Shedidn't want to admit it, but he cleaned up nicely. Maybe if she played hercards right, she could see him in a tux more often.
"Whydo I have to wear this stupid monkey suit?" Mercury complained. "It'snot like anyone here is going to recognize us after this place goes toshit."
"Untilthen," Emerald said, "we're students from Haven. So we need to playthe part. And playing the part means you in a tux for this stupid dance."
"Andyou're going to wear a dress?"
"Ihate this plan too." Emerald finished straightening the bow tie, smackingMercury's hand away when he tried to remove it."After the party."
"Thissucks."
"Iagree." Emerald went over to the bathroom, picking up her dress and the makeupkit. "I'll be out in ten minutes."
"Takeyour time," Mercury shrugged."I'm in no hurry."
Emeraldrolled her eyes and left him alone. Mercury lay on the bed, staring up at the ceilingas he waited for his date. He couldn't help but shudder at that thought.
Thesooner this school falls the better.
Emeraldcame out of the bathroom, dressed to the nines. A forest green halter dresswith a black silk sash. Mercury sat up, giving a soft nod. He hated to admitit, but she looked good.
"Ready?"Emerald asked.
"Asready as I'll ever be," he sighed. "I wish I could have wornsomething different though. This is the same suit all the other Haven kids arewearing."
"Justbe glad you didn't pay for it. Now let's go. There's free food."
"Yum!"
The twoof them left the dorm room, arms linked so as to play the part of a couple. Itwas awkward, but it was something that had to be done.
"Where'sCinder again?" Mercury asked under his breath.
"Preppingfor her mission," Emerald reminded him. "She'll join us later. Focus on playing nice with the otherstudents, okay?"
"Oh,but master thief. Being nice is boring. It's more fun to steal theirwallets."
"Iwill seriously throw you into the punch bowl if you don't shut up."
Thereweren't many people out and about. Most of the staff and students were alreadyat the party. This was good. Gave them achance to mentally prepare.
"Youexcited to see your friends in prom wear?" Mercury asked.
"Nope,"Emerald said with a pop. "But they don't know that."
"Andthey don't need to."
Soonthey approached the door, looking at each other as they unlinked arms.
"Ready?"Emerald asked.
"Let'skill it."
Mercurypushed the door open and he and Emerald walked inside. Shoulders back, backsstraight, eyes focused forward. They put on their best smiles as a girl withlong blonde hair in a white halter dress smiled at them from the podium. Herlilac eyes sparkled in the dim lights.
"Youguys are just in time!" she said cheerfully.
Mercuryheld back a chuckle, laying it on as thick as possible.
"Wouldn'tmiss it for the world."

So uh fun fact, Mercury’s a giant fucking nerd. His keychain reads “M80495.” And get this? That actually has significance according to the fine folks on the Emmercury Discord server!
M stands for Mercury, obviously.
80 is atomic number for the element of Mercury
and 495 for the year when the Temple of Mercury was first assembled in Rome.
That kickboi nerd must have spent all of Volume 7 looking for a way to make some random digits work AND HE DID.

This is an old prompt. I like this prompt. Thank you for sending me this prompt whenever you sent it. I know its not exactly what you asked for, but I hope it works either way.
It had been 3 hours and 17 minutes before all of Vale had gone directly to hell in fiery mess. Emerald was exhausted, her mind strained a little too far from the tournament and the task of getting the three of them out of Vale without also getting killed was turning out to be a bit more than a simple task.
When she and Mercury had gone into this, they hadn’t been expecting to be dragging Cinder out of the city as she clung to life. All that they had seen was the blinding white light at the top of Beacon Tower and then…
Nothing.
The battle that had been there had ended. The grimm dragon clinging to the side of the ruined spire had frozen in place.
And it had been up to them to get to the top of the tower and find out what had happened, if not for their sakes, for Cinder’s employer’s. (And they really didn’t know all that much about the woman. Just that she was powerful beyond belief.) The two of them had managed, although it had been exceedingly difficult getting there undetected.
Nothing could have prepared them for what was to come. And now, as Emerald and Mercury crouched out of view with Cinder slung between them (Mercury was holding most of the weight, and that was a genuine relief in itself), they needed to figure out a plan to get out.
Their current quarry was waiting for them. It was a simple bullhead, Atlesian, and while getting a White Fang craft would have been easier, the faction had already begun pulling out. Emerald steeled herself, examining the situation before looking over at Mercury. “I have an idea.”
Mercury nodded, and let Cinder down to rest for the time being. “What’s the plan?”
“I’ll distract them.” Emerald replied, taking count of the number of people surrounding the ship. Two. It was going to be manageable, but it was going to be hard. “Just play along. We’re just trying to transport wounded. Once they take off, we hijack the ship and then...”
“Back to Mistral?” Mercury asked, sliding in to the space directly beside Emerald. He was throwing off heat like a furnace, and while Emerald would have normally found that somewhat comforting, here it felt wrong. Like a distraction. “You know neither of us know how to fly one of those things.”
And yeah, that was the big problem with this plan. But they didn’t have many other options. “We’ll figure it out.” She hissed back to Mercury, ignoring his closeness and standing up. This was going to hurt. “Just... follow my lead.”
Mercury sighed and turned, lifting Cinder up and holding her to him carefully. He was lucky that whatever had caused her wounds had cauterized them, Emerald thought. This would have been much harder otherwise.
Emerald took in a deep breath and took her first step into the small landing pad, emerging from behind the crates that she and Mercury had taken cover behind. Mercury followed close after.
“Help!” Emerald called, catching the first guard’s eyes and activating her semblance. Deciding what they needed to see was easy enough. Exasperate Cinder’s wounds, change their faces, make her and Mercury look a little more banged up too. “We have injured!”
The first guard looked at her and then to Mercury and Cinder before looking at the ship. “We’ll get you out of here.”
“Thank you so much!” Emerald replied as she got onto the ship behind him. She could already feel the mental strain, the migraine coming on her quickly. It was going to be up to Mercury to make sure that they got out of this. She’d just started the process. “Can you just... get us out of here?”
“We’ll have to look out for the grimm but..” The guard answered, sliding into the cockpit. “You want to go to one of the evacuation points?”
“Nah.” Mercury finally spoke up, twisting his body to deliver a single well-placed kick to the second guard’s face before kicking the body out. “We just need your ship.”
The guard looked between the two of them and realization dawned on his face. “You’re-”
Mercury took the few steps forward and grabbed the pilot by the collar, dragging him to the edge of the ship. “Just looking for a way out of here. Hope you don’t mind.”
With that, he tossed the man out and Emerald stumbled to the front of the ship to hit the button that would close the ship’s door. After that, all they had to do was fly.
And Emerald was so glad to have Mercury there in the ship beside her and Cinder. He made it feel so much safer, he was the only one that wasn’t somehow hurt.

ironqrow has never been a bad ship name either. i wouldn’t even mind qrowwood because that’s at least clear.
the problem is that even ships that are popular can’t come to a concensus on their cutesy ship names so you end up having to block 7 tags all for the same goddamn ship
I think we discussed qrowwood back then but the double w’s was too hard to navigate. Like how no one knows if Emercury or Emmercury is the right name, you know? Ironqrow has always been a decent ship name. You know who they both are.
The lack of consensus drives me nuts. That’s part of why I’m fighting so hard to keep this damn unity. There were so few of us posting content for so long that we had it locked down. And now? Not so much.

It’d probably go to the Sailor Moon fandom. Never grew out of it. Haven’t really jumped into it full as a content creator but maybe soon.

Okay, if we’re gonna be listing all these I’m gonna need a whole document because this is gonna take a while.
Like, for RWBY I have Catmeleon, Seamonkeys, IronQrow, TaiQrow, IronTai, IronTaiQrow, Freezerburn, Monochrome, Bees Schnees, CVFY Shop, Emmercury, Arkos, Martial Arcs, Lotus Eaters, Ladybug, Sugar Rush, and MORE. Like this is just scratching the surface.

Like seriously, there’s a reason me and a buddy sometimes joke “and thus they are shipped”. If I see a good dynamic, I usually end up shipping it. And I have.

Off the top of my head it kind of reminds me of a lot of young All Might. I can’t help but wonder if he ever felt the same way the singer does in this song at some points in his life.
I can also see it fit characters like Bakugou, Yaoyorozu, Iida, and Todoroki. Like, my take away from the song
