I've seen a lot of empires character headcanons on my dash so let me add my personal favorite

S2 c!Katherine is an asexual lesbian with comphet. The society of her kingdom is very allo-heteronormative. Not homophobic but just.. doesn't talk about queerness. And so she grew up not really thinking about it. Just assuming she's straight.

Plus yk, she had that curse and a collapsing kingdom to worry about.

Then this pirate shows up and immediately confesses attraction and desires towards her. And she is flustered. Freaked out because despite all her life assuming that's what she would have. It makes her feel sick. There's something fundamentally wrong about these suggestions that involve her.

But she doesn't understand why. So she declares she doesn't care about romance and that he is crazy and even crazier for saying Great Witch Shelby likes her in the same way he does.

Because Katherine likes Shelby. They're a nice witch and kind. They're a great friend and doesn't want to lose them to the same icky feeling she gets when Pirate Joe talks about her being his bride

But Shelby doesn't like Katherine the same way as Pirate Joe. Cause they're ace too.

Lumping Xornoth and Joey together in one big post because their arcs get very closely intertwined. In this AU, Jornoth is healthy and cute and they get to have the fairy tale trope of "true love's kiss"

Xornoth is cursed to look like a demon. As I mentioned in Scott's post, they got their curse when they hit puberty. They were actually fine with the demon features at first but they noticed how people were looking at them and acting and treating them differently. And that wears down on a person after a while.

Presently, they pretty much spend all their time in their room or the library and helps Scott with ruling stuff when they can. Mostly doing research (they insist on doing it themselves because they want to feel like they're good for something because ~self worth issues~). They also read books that aren't research related and this AU has artist Xornoth.

Scott makes sure to visit them when he can, which isn't as often as either of them want because Scott is busy.

Joey's cursed to be found inherently unlikable. I'm not sure how he found this out but he decides to be a rude bitch under the logic of "if they'll hate me regardless, might as well do what I want." The others made a group chat without him, and obviously you'd have to kill him before he'd admit to being cursed.

And being vulnerable is very difficult when you've never experienced anyone genuinely liking you.

Now for the Jornoth part!

They meet at a party Scott was forced into hosting because it was either host an alliance event or explain why he's never invited anyone to Ricendell.

Joey knows everyone would be happier if he's not there but doesn't want to go home so sneaks off and finds the library. Which is where Xornoth is. They have a nice conversation through a bookshelf and become friends. They add each other to their comm contacts and begin messaging a lot.

Scott doesn't really like Joey because curse, but figures if he makes Xornoth happy it's best to leave them be for the time being.

Eventually they decide to have a proper date. And they kiss, and true loves kiss breaks the curse and it's adorable. The best part is, at first they only realize Xornoth's curse has been broken (there are probably a couple traits left but for the most part they look like an elf again) because it's a physical change.

I keep imagining that Joey was already blushing when he sees Xornoth, then gets even more flustered when their curse is broken.

Joey probably figures it out after a while of people treating him differently. And to other people Joey doesn't immediately seem like the worst. It's a very confusing time for everybody.

So yeah, Jornoth gets cute fairy tale stuff.

I saw a comment on one of Orionsound’s clips that I want to talk about

First of all, that fits SPLENDIDLY, what with his gorgeous singing voice and dramatic, theatrical personality. Second of all, now that Jimmy’s a human (or maybe a toy, idk), I kind of miss having a cute fish boi on the server.

If Oli does turn out to be a siren, who do you guys think the next fishfucker’s gonna be? My money’s on Joey. I mean, he’s a pirate, so he already has a connection to the sea. Plus, it would be nice if he found somebody for him since Katherine doesn’t feel the same way about him (and is probably bothered by him stealing stuff for her). I heard somewhere that he’s canonically bisexual, so it’s possible.

It’s been a few months since Empires s2 came to an end and I wanted to make a piece reflecting on the time we spent with these characters 🥰✨ When season 1 ended I did a series of paintings set to the End Poem, and so I decided to revisit the concept once again, making sure to switch up which line corresponded to which person. This series means a lot to me—in fact, this is one of two big Empires s2 projects I’ve been working on! There’s another one still in the works :D

Thinking about how Lizzie and Joey’s characters literally intertwine with each other.

Pirate Joe declares himself king of the sea, parallel to S1 Lizzie as the Ocean Queen

S2 Lizzie says she descended from jungle beasts who were locked up and dressed up, referring to S1 Joey and his animal villagers

Like did they do this intentionally?? Or was it purely coincidental??

How does Joey actually feel about Xornoth?

There’s a difference between love, lust, and infatuation. I’ve been wondering, what exactly does Joey feel for Xornoth? Is it only one of these? Is it some combination? Is there maybe another similar yet different word to add to the list?

I’m thinking mostly lust and infatuation but with maybe a little bit of love.
