"joyce doesn't like steve au" for WIP Wednesday, please!

yeahhhh! For part 4 of this fic I decided to go with steve's pov to shake things up a bit and get some insight on his aftermath/during part2. directly after the last snippet:

send me an ask to make me write wip wednesday (+weekend) fics

He can’t fight his way out of it, and they cross paths often enough by virtue of having saved the world together really made an overlap in the people they hold dear that the thought of seeing her makes his stomach turn. That he’d have to act normal around her, pretend nothing is wrong between them even if everything is. The worst part is that he had thought she was going to be safe. Steve has noticed how Will acts, just a little jumpy and pointedly not looking in a way Steve felt he recognized even with Will being the younger teen Steve was the most distant with (he already had a big brother, one that didn’t resent him for no reason, at least), so surely Joyce, his mom, had.

So, @thefreakandthehair and I will be working out a proper outline for this amazing project some time next week but I can share a few things about it we already worked out with @firefly-party (and you can also read a scene I wrote for Lex' birthday that's happening in this universe and gives you a feeling for the dynamic we are going for and check out the amazing art already existing for it here and here)

So, the setting is as follows: CC have made it, they're THE breakthrough metal band of the year and they're about to embark on their first ever world tour when Gareth breaks his arm, badly. It's a complicated fracture and the doctor tells him he won't be able to drum for at least a few months - which is a disaster. They can't reschedule, and they really don't want to cancel the tour, so they need a replacement drummer, and fast.

Enter Will Byers, Gareth's boyfriend. He immediately suggests Steve Harington, who has played in several bands over the years, always as a hobby, but he's good, really good, according to Will. Will works as a tattoo artist and owns his own studio where Steve Harrington is a regular guest artist. Will knows Steve from way back when he used to babysit Will's friend Dustin and date his best friend Mike's big sister. He vouches for Steve as a great drummer and an even better guy and sends Gareth a link to Steve's socials with videos of some of his gigs over the years.

The CC guys are thrilled, except for Eddie, and they invite Steve to show them how fast he can learn their songs, because the tour starts in less than two weeks.

Eddie dislikes Steve right away because he's everything Eddie hated in high school, and when Steve shows up wearing a button-up and dress-pants, looking like a choir boy instead of a rock star, Eddie feels vindicated in his resentment. It doesn't help that he's unfairly attractive and talented, so he has the other boys wrapped around his finger in no time. They vote, and everyone but Eddie votes to take Steve with them, and so Eddie is forced to spend the next three months touring the world with Steve Harrington.

I want to hear more about "i wanted her to look at me."

okay SO 'i wanted her to look at me' is technically a prequel to everything that happens in the rebel robin: surviving the upside down au.

it originally was not going to exist, and i had no plans for a prequel of sorts, but i sat down to kind of outline/plan the 'season 3' part of the au and then went, "wait.....what if robin said 'nancy wheeler' instead of 'tammy thompson' in the bathroom with steve...?" because ALLEGEDLY (bc idk how true it is) robin was supposed to say nancy's name in that scene but they changed it last minute. AND nancy wheeler is based on nancy thompson from A Nightmare on Elm Street.

but, because we also have a book and a podcast about robin and about her discovering she's a lesbian and becoming the robin we know today, i'm using those as reference points too. (and also rebel robin is canon to ME.)

so robin discovers she likes girls and not only does she like girls, but specifically nancy wheeler, who is currently being wooed by steve harrington. it's about a week, maybe a week and a half before november 6th, 1983, the day that (at least, in this au) robin and will disappear.

here's a tiny piece of it:

...but today is worse, because it’s Monday, and it’s raining, and it’s Halloween, and Nancy Wheeler is wearing Steve’s letterman jacket.

originally i was going to add in a little barb and robin scene, since they were friends before nancy and barb were, but i'm still on the fence about it, so right now it sits in the deleted scenes folder for this wip lol. but !! thank you for this ask!!

What made you ship it? - It was the yearning heart eyes that made me ship it. They never just make eye contact, they stare, and it's always charged with Something.

What are your favorite things about the ship? - They're very pretty together lol... but I also love that they're both bamf and try to take care of each other. I love that Castiel sees all of Dean's flaws, and thinks he's perfect anyway. I love that Dean is silly, and Cas is weird, in ways that compliment each other.

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship? - "Morning Sunshine" was not romantic, and it kinda drives me up the wall that everyone treats it like it was romantic 😆

“I like you.” The words tumble out of Steve’s mouth, more like a garbled sound than individual syllables. He should have prefaced it with something else – or at least thought rationally and instructed Argyle to go get the damn key to this garage before he said anything. He presses his head against the door and sucks in a breath. Trust him to blurt out such a declaration when there is a gigantic lump of wood between him and his crush. “Whoa,” Argyle hums on the other side and Steve feels a weight shift against the door. Perhaps Argyle is standing just as he is. “Yeah,” he gulps, nodding. “Co-cool,” Argyle splutters, “Me too. I mean… I like you too – not, I like me…”

I'm here for more "mouth of the wolf, eyes of the lamb"

Man, this one I'm just so excited for. It definitely seems to be a favourite among my moots (and tbh if I didn't have to work on my steddiebang I'd be working on this exclusively).

I don't think I've given much of a summary yet? Other than everyone knowing it's roughly a kas!Eddie fic. But it's based off of a prompt from @steves-strapcollection that's spiraled into something we're now collaborating on, where, a few months after the end of season 4 and right in the midst of a worsening apocalypse in Hawkins, Steve finds Eddie in his backyard after they'd all thought he'd died that day in March. But, of course, Eddie's come back changed, body and mind, and the changes keep worsening, much to Eddie's horror. At the same time, they also have to figure out how to put an end to the apocalypse and Eddie might just hold the key.

It's body horror, truly raunchy monsterfucking, so much whump and angst, romance in during an apocalypse, and a promised happy ending despite all the rest!

Anyway, here's a snippet~

Aggravated, in pain, and not quite thinking, Eddie figured he’d get the rest of it over with and shoved his boxers off, kicking them away while he grit his teeth and breathed harshly. Eddie could barely hear Steve talking to him, low and comforting, over the rush of water and his own blood in his ears. Couldn’t spare a thought to the fact that he was fully naked in front of Steve. All that existed was the heat. The pain.

He stretched into it, towards it, arching his back despite the awful twisted cramping in his sides until it finally relaxed. The pressure in his mind went quiet and still. Eddie let out a sigh so massive he thought the shower walls should’ve shook with it. And then, his legs gave out.

“Oh shit!”

Steve caught him in a panicked scramble, hands grabbing him under the arms before Eddie’s knees smashed into the tiles, but not fast enough to keep both of them from collapsing in a soggy heap.

what I will say is that it's set between S1 and 2 and involves Steve and Eddie getting to know each other and secretly dating during that time, with Eddie involved in all the UD nonsense starting with S2 😇 if I don't end up using it for a bang I DO still want to write it at some point because it's been kicking around in the back of my head since this summer lol

"Cassie has a sexuality crisis, Kon has a gender one, and Circe makes everything worse" for WIP Wednesday.

Cassie comes out to all their friends the next day so no one will think it's Kon's fault that they broke up, which actually kind of makes the coming out easier to do. She's a superhero; doing something terrifying for someone else's sake is basically the job description. No one gets upset or weird about it and they’re actually all really supportive, which she knows she should've expected but still feels . . . relieved by, she guesses. 

She thinks maybe Cissie isn't very surprised, but more in a “well, that explains that” kind of way than anything else, and Greta and Bart both seem politely baffled as to why she cares either way, but . . . yeah, it goes okay. And no one even gets upset with her for leading Kon on, even though they probably should, considering. 

She'd spent so long acting so stupid about him, trying so hard to get his attention, and it was always just . . . lying, she guesses. To him, and to herself. To prove she was normal; prove she was something she wasn't. If Kon wanted her . . .

Kon's the perfect guy, after all. So if he wanted her . . . then that meant she was what she was supposed to be.

Didn't it?

But no one says anything about it to her, even though none of them are particularly subtle about asking about how Kon took it either. She isn't surprised when Tim and Bart both make flimsy excuses about how the girls should all have a girls’ night and then both take the first chance to disappear. Obviously they're going to go check on Kon and do a boys’ night with him, and Cassie's grateful that they are. 

It's not like she can be the one to check on him anymore. 

And that's her own fault. That’s . . . something she did to herself. 

Something she did to him.

His bedroom window fills the frame, and through it both he and Barb are shirtless. Barb’s back is mostly to the photographer, to Byers, but captured in it is the moment her shirt caught on her elbows as he’d pushed it off her shoulders, Steve's hands on her sides under it and her bra visible. His hand clenches around the paper.

ok so. look at this dude.

i have a fun headcanon that JnD humans have pointed ears because the eco inadvertently changed their DNA over time. canonically, eco contains the ottsel "source code", and so long-term exposure gave humans slightly ottselfied DNA.

following this, redheads in JnD have a higher concentration of ottsel DNA, which is what gives them the red hair gene, since most ottsels are orange. so coming into contact with the usually lethal dark eco instead triggers a last-ditch defense mechanism and ottselfies them

now. there are a few ways this can happen. you can take a swim in a vat of dark eco, like Daxter did, and thus transform all at once.

or... you can be poisoned by dark eco. slowly. maybe through injection... or perhaps... *infection.*

the latter happens in Ottserrol after an... ill-fated encounter with Dark Jak.

I'd like to know about "nudie patootie"

Nudie Patootie was a wip I started in April 2023, according to Scrivener. Where I wrote 600 words and then promptly abandoned it. But it's been sitting in my WIPs folder because I do want to finish it one day.

Basically, it's future fic, established Steddie, where Eddie sketches Steve naked. I wanted to explore that sort of intimacy that comes with nudity without the pressure of sex.

So Eddie offered to sketch him. Artists have been using their lovers as their models for as long as art has existed, and Eddie wanted to carry on the tradition. Wanted to explore the world of intimacy with Steve. Wanted to explore his body with his pencil, with his loving gaze — and not just roaming hands, and fierce kisses.

They had blocked out time for it, picked a day they were both free all day, so they could languish in the feeling. No rush, no pressure, just them and the easel. No rushing off to appointments, or band practice, or lunch with Robin. Eddie even took the phone off the hook. He was almost giddy with the anticipation.

He’s seen Steve naked before — of course he has — but this feels different. More. Like they’re about to unlock the next step in their relationship as they explore this new type of intimacy together. Nudity without the pressure of sex. Of performing. Steve at his purest self. Naked, and vulnerable, and baring it all for Eddie.

It was a privilege. An honour.

“You ready?” He asks.
