It's silly, but I think one of my favourite things about the Eurovision movie is that up until the semi-final, we don't get to hear any more than the first verse of Double Trouble before it gets cut off. So by the time we get to it, we've been teased by the opening of this damn song at least three times now, and we're dying to know how the rest of it goes. And so the performance starts, Fire Saga start singing, they reach the end of the first verse and stare into each other's eyes, and there's a brief pause, and you think 'oh shit, not again, what's gonna happen this time?'
...And then they turn to the camera and keep singing, and you think "Oh sweet! They're gonna do the whole song just like in a real semi-final!"
Tumblr media
And then they do not do the whole song.

I just watched Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga for the first time and ??????? It was really fun! Deeply weird though. It had three good jokes that really worked for me:
1. Salvador Sobral’s song (I really love it, it won for a reason) being an absolutely magical piece of ost that was revealed to be sung by him as a street musician performing for money, which shows you the true cultural significance of the competition, sorry.
2. The fact that it was obvious from the first second that the Russian singer was gay.
3. Will Ferrell hating on Americans.
It’s really weird to know it’s an American movie because I don’t see it working out there at all. I liked everything that wasn’t straight from a script writer’s textbook (misunderstandings, forced conflict etc). But yeah, I had a lot of fun! It was weird!

Eurovision Fact #254:
Tumblr media
The 2020 movie Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga was nominated for 28 awards, one of which was the Oscar for Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures (Original Song) for the song 'Husavik.' However, the song lost to Judas and the Black Messiah's 'Fight for You.'
Out of the films 28 nominations, it won six awards:
At GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics (2021), the movie won the Dorian Award for Campy Flick of the Year.
From the Hollywood Critics Association (2021), they won the HCA Award for Best Original Song, again for 'Husavik.'
At the International Online Cinema Awards (INOCA) in 2020, Fire Saga took home the Halfway Award, once again for best original song.
The movie took home the Golden Reel Award for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing - Feature Musical at Motion Picture Sound Editors, USA (2021).
At New Mexico Film Critics (2021), the move once again won Best original song with the NMFC Award.
Once again winning with 'Husavik,' Fire Saga won the Society of Composers and Lyricists Awards (2021)'s SCL Award for Outstanding Original Song for Visual Media.

Ficlet Advent Calendar 2022
In the past 3 years I was doing an advent calendar challenge to write a short fic every day from December 1 to 24. And since I was having a lot of fun with these little ficlets, I decided to do this challenge this year, too. (Although I’m not sure if I can finish it on time - I could only do that two years ago when the usual Christmas Chaos was cancelled due to covid)
Like in the previous years, I’ll be taking prompts as well: I have a list of Christmas/Winter writing prompts, so feel free to send me some with the characters and/or pairings you’d like me to write it, and I’ll add it to the challenge! Also, if something comes to your mind that’s not on the list, you can send me that, too! I only use the prompt list as a guideline anyways. Although I do reserve the right to say no to a prompt.
My advent calendar challenges are multifandom, so it can happen that in one chapter we have Mr Carson decorating the Christmas tree and in the next one Kingsman agents are having a sleepover. Just like in the previous years, you can expect some silly festive fluff with a bit of angst, and there will be Christmas sweaters as well.
Based on the current state of my brain, this year’s challenge will most probably be related to Top Gun (both films), Downton Abbey, Gossip Girl, Our Flag Means Death, Ted Lasso, and The Bodyguard (which is my Kingsman - Eurovision Song Contest crossover), but other fandoms might be involved as well, so if you have a prompt from a fandom that’s not on the list, please still send it in!
Also, this year I’ve decided to put together some “best of” posts from the previous challenges to give those fics some love, because some of them turned out pretty neat and when else shall I re-share my Christmas-themed fics than in December? Those will be organized by fandoms (like Christmas at Donwton) or by topics (Santa Claus or Snow).
Since this challenge will be quite intense, my other fics will be on hold, so there won’t be any updates on Dancing on the clouds below and on For a little bit of sunshine during the challenge. Although this doesn’t mean there will not be chapters set in the same verse as these fics. ;)
Lastly, if you’d like to be notified about the updates on the challenge, please let me know and I’ll add you to the tag list.
The pervious advent calendar challenges can be found here: 2019 I 2020 I 2021
And the prompt list is here. (It’s rebloggable, so others can use it, too)

The fact that the UK is hosting a Eurovision without actually having won one the previous year is the closest possible explanation for the scenario in the Eurovision Song Contest: the Story of Fire Saga

Would’ve been great if the UK had won only because then they could’ve held the next one in Edinburgh and closed the Fire Saga continuity...

I watched this movie three times in the last six days and I'm so deeply in love with it. It's one of my favourite movies of all time and yes it's not perfect but it comes from the heart and that's what the movie is all about (and I want to write a fanfiction for a sequel and I have lots of ideas and maybe I'm gonna do it)
I ship Lars and Sigrit sorry not sorry

I'm rewatching Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga to see if it is as bad as I remember.
Spoiler alert: It is.
Why did they let Americans make this?
