HI! WAIT ARE U ONE OF THE PEOPLE WHO KEEPS PUTTING THE KDRAMAS ON THE DASH. holding a microphone up to you what are ur top recs for kdramas. favorites even
hi hello yes i am & i am the right person to ask this question actually
alchemy of souls: this show is so well named bc it literally is my soul. to date the only media that has made me sob hysterically (multiple times!) all of the characters are so incredible and multifaceted and jung somin and go younjung portray the fl with so much depth it is amazing. lee jaewook is also incredible as the ml and his character is one of the most interesting protags i've ever seen. also the cinematography and magic system is amazing i believe it's partially based off of chinese xianxia dramas? but it is so amazing it is my favorite thing ever go watch it: a+ plot, a+ cast, a+ cinematography
law school: this one also has go younjung in it! (alchemy of souls) and i literally could not put it down bc the plot is so interesting & the characters are all. absolutely incredible to watch. it is so much more than just a murder mystery, and i think it really made me rethink how i viewed lawyers & the legal system in general. also solhwi beloveds forever so ! i think this is rlly fun if u love murder mysteries, law, dark academia or just some really well-developed characters
weightlifting fairy kim bok-joo: this one is a bit older but nam joo hyuk is so beloved here?? absolute friends to lovers excellence i love love love the chemistry between the leads like apparently they were dating? during the show? and u can absolutely tell bc bokjoo and joonhyung are so in love with each other. besotted. i think it's such a fun drama and bokjoo is so everything to me
hometown cha-cha-cha: absolutely pure serotonin at its finest. it is so escapist u can just put it on and forget abt all ur worries. there are like 0 stakes it is just such a beautiful exploration of love and living in a small town vs a city and i adore yoon hyejin she is so special to me
hymn of death: this one is literally 3 eps long & it broke me into pieces? it's a story about two people finding love during the japanese occupation of korea and it hurts so badly to see two people trying to keep their culture afloat while being occupied. also the ending is so painful but it is soooo good like. shin hye sun never ever ever misses she's my fav actress i think
my name: another shorter drama! it is 8 eps and they're all so?? action packed?? song jiwoo is so special near and dear to me. it is literally just about a young woman dealing with the grief of the death of her father and trying to avenge his death and it's one of the most painful things i've ever seen but it's incredible. han sohee put everything she had into that portrayal of her
our beloved summer: title is so correct bc this drama is so beloved to me! i honestly love how they portrayed both leads, guk yeonsoo and choi ung's struggles felt so real and kim dami and choi wooshik really did an incredible job portraying them as just. very real people. it's like. haters to lovers to exes to pining to "friends" to lovers but their love is so real. it's so so so good and it's the first kdrama i ever saw so it is forever special to me
honorable mentions:
moving: ok tbh idk how qualified i am to rec this rn bc i just started (another go younjung drama, r u noticing a pattern) but already i adore the plot and the characters and i'm so excited to see where this goes next!! this one is about a group of people who have superpowers and there's some agency involved but tbh idk much more than that
destined with you: in no way is this a drama w an actually good storyline like we are just here for the vibes but i love kim rowoon and i love jo boah and their chemistry is off the charts and they're so cute in this drama! and honestly i am having so much fun every wednesday and thursday w them . so. this one is about a "cold" lawyer and a civil servant who are reincarnations of their past selves who were alive during the joseon dynasty and whose love story ended in extreme tragedy. the lawyer (jang shinyu) is cursed to have some kind of brain tumor i think? and there's a spell book involved that belongs to the civil servant (lee hongjo). it is very no plot only vibes
see you in my 19th life: this one....fair warning. the ending is. quite. something. but honestly it started out so strong and i think it is still a fun time bc shin hyesun strikes yet again. tbh i only got thru this one bc of her portrayal of ban jieum but honestly this is probably one of her best performances if not her best. this one is abt a girl who remembers all of her past lives trying to find the boy she loved in her past life (moon seoha) but couldn't be with bc she died very young
angel's last mission: love: i think this one def got a tad melodramatic at times but honestly kim dan and lee yeonseo are so in love. i want to be in love like they are in love. this is abt a ballerina who, due to an "accident", became blind and couldn't dance anymore and an angel is sent down to help her find love but ends up falling in love w her instead. another shin hyesun drama and she never ever misses so ! her portrayal of yeonseo is an acting masterclass actually
to be watched:
twenty-five, twenty-one: saw an edit of this one to long live and had to watch it so it is on the tbw. also a nam joo hyuk drama (about a young woman's fencing journey & youth w her friends & first love and also about her daughter's ballet career i think)
moon lovers scarlet heart ryeo: i love love love iu and need to see her projects so! heard this one is pure pain which sounds sooo fun actually (about a girl in the 21st century who gets transported to the goryeo dynasty i believe)
extraordinary you: cannot believe there is a drama that exists with both lee jaewook and kim rowoon. how is that real (about a girl who is a side character in a comic book and decides she doesn't want to be and then there's like a crossover w another comic book or something like that)

ok let's go. tumblr user zaggyzoo currently watching dramas recap (or whatever):
love in contract (ep. 9): as we say in italy, this is just fried air. i feel like every episode progressively gets worse, but not even in a "this show is Bad" way, it's just sooo mediocre. to me. mediocre premises, mediocre characters, mediocre plots, mediocre love triangle that i hoped we had left back in 2017. every episode i feel like nothing happens at all and I can't wait for it to end and i think the reason i didn't drop it yet is bc it's the only show that isn't on fri/sat/sun. and tbh things do happen, the problem is that they're all things you could've guessed from the third episode and they're just. not up to the quality of the type of drama it wants so badly to be. djjdjdjd wow sorry i don't even hate it but it's just sooo mediocre.
one dollar lawyer (ep.8): my bestie <33 love this show wow. they had a bit of a too long and emotional heavy two-episodes backstory that could've have been maybe managed differently but i get why it was necessary and now we're back to the silly antics soo I can't wait to see the new episodes!! it's genuinely so funny and it even made me think the courtroom scenes were soo fun to watch. made me think of while you were sleeping, which i loved watching so 🙏 that's high praise hfhdjdh
the golden spoon (ep.5): wow i'm three episodes behind on this helppp i do enjoy watching it (even though it has its flaws) but i never feel like starting an episode. helppp it feels like a chore even though i want to catch up. so uhm sjhdhdhdh but anyway i think this is very korean in themes, I don't think this story could work in any other context quite as well. and i also like how sungjae character is an interesting protagonist, as in, interesting how his character is, considering the usual role of a protagonist and its relationship with the viewer (that makes sense to me sorry). but in contrast I don't quite like how they didn't give the same treatment to yeojin as a villain 🤥 but maybe it's too early to talk (i hope)
gaus electronics (ep. 6): soooo silly djjdjd <3 the comedy is so slapstick and i think sometimes it could be finer, to be funnier. like for my tastes, it doesn't make me laugh out loud the whole episode, but i AM entertained for a good portion of it so 😌👍 also better kiss scene than most romantic dramas rn like 🙏😳🙌 and the 45 min format is really fitting
under the queen's umbrella (ep.2): this just started so 👁️ but i missed watching a period drama so much sooo i want to enjoy it fjjfjf gye seong must be protected at all costs 😭 btw actually surprised they went there! like i called it, at the end of first episode, but still ! i hope they're respectful and treat it with dignity and respect and the preview of next ep it looks like it but i'm still scared a bit 🤥 anyway why did i think it was a comedy when I start it fjfjfj also chani mean girl slay
may i help you (ep.2): the happines-park-hyungsik-ification of lee junyoung.... 😳😌🙌☺️🙏😼😖 sooo glad to see him act with hyeri, and it looks like a good one?? i'm shook. the start was a bit confusing but I think it was intentional, and i was then pretty neutral about the show but in the second episode there's a scene that is just soooo cute and made me think. oh this is good i enjoy this ! junyoung comedy king tbh. ALSO interesting how kdramaa usually like to have older actors with younger actresses, while he's often paired with older actresses à la lee jaewook 👁️ they do have the same charm i think... tbh while watching alchemy of souls i did think junyoung could do that role too so fjfhjfjf (love jaewook btw no hate 😭) OH ALSO it's so funny always to me to see how different catholicism is in korea from here lmaoo and i guess I don't really get how it ties in with the supernatural aspect of this show, that part leaves me a bit 🤔 but it's probably also too soon so we'll have to see

Hwang Minhyun 1st Look Feature (June 2022)
[source: This is part of a feature for the Alchemy of Souls cast with interviews with Yoo Insoo, Shin Seungho, and Lee Jaewook. Below is the interview with Hwang Minhyun.]
Tumblr media
Just from looking at today's shoot, the chemistry among the four of you seems great. How did you get so close?
I think the biggest reason is that we're all close in age. We can relate to each other so we communicate well and have a relationship where we can go "Oh yeah, I get that."
We heard that you've already been close friends with Seungho-ssi even before this.
Seungho's been my close friend since before we met on Alchemy of Souls. He was in the show [Ong] Seungwoo debuted in so I was introduced to him back then.
Do you remember your first impression of him?
First of all, he had a lot of charisma. He's tall with a big build and he has a low voice tone. When I first saw him, I thought, "I don't think we'll get along." (laughs) I thought that, since we met because of Seungwoo, maybe we'll hang out today and there won't be a next time, but we got along really well. Though he has a serious side, he's cuter than you'd expect.
A good mix among the actors has a bigger influence on the show than you might think, right?
Aside from myself, these three people were the kind of actors who I usually looked at and thought, "That actor is so cool." Now that we're working together, I've learned a lot of things from them alongside acting. I feel comfortable around them and enjoy their company so the atmosphere on set became good as well. We also go out to eat sometimes, so that helped too.
Is there a certain "soul food" that the four of you like?
Whenever we get tired from shooting the drama and we feel like we need to regain some of our energy, we usually eat a bowl of boiled eel with rice (t/n: jangodokbap). We found a place where they serve good eel so it's been fun. Oh, and we also love meat. It all adds to our stamina.
Tumblr media
It's the 10 year anniversary of your debut this year. This must be a personal turning point for you, and there might be a certain type of resolve that comes with it.
People know and remember the singer Hwang Minhyun, but I think most people don't yet know about my acting. I've had previous shows, but since this is the first time I'm doing such a huge show at this scale, I think of it as though I'm making a new start as an actor again. I hope that many people who watch this remember and keep this image of actor Hwang Minhyun.
We heard that you attended an action school for this show. Can you talk a bit about your training?
When filming began last year, I attended an action school regularly for about two months. I learned the basics of rolling and falling, and how to hang from a wire. My character in particular uses double blades so my training focused on how to use two swords. Now I feel a little more confident with it.
Did it go as well as you practiced?
I'm not sure. (laughs) Every time we film an action scene, there's no way for me to practice for it in advance. There were a lot of times when I would get to the set about thirty minutes before filming and immediately put into action what I'd just learned. But since I'm used to memorizing choreography and my body having to pick up on things quickly, I memorized the sword-wielding action scenes better than I expected. Now that I'm thinking about it, I learned them like they were choreography. It felt good to think, "I'm using what I learned from ten years of dancing on a stage in this way."
For people who dance well, action must be very different. The speed at which you learned and the new challenge must have been refreshing. (t/n: It says "선도 예쁘고요" and I don't quite understand which meaning of "선도" is being used, so I just tried to use the one that made most sense?? please let me know if you understand what this word means ><)
I'm using swords for now, but if there's a chance in the future, I'd like to try fighting with my bare hands. I've considered trying something like boxing in the future. (laughs)
You seem like the type to keep taking on whatever comes your way.
Yes. There's a boxing gym near where I live that I'm looking into. Maybe I'll start soon?
Genius young master Seo Yul of the Seo family seems like a fitting role for you.
When I got the script for the first time, I wanted to see the similarities between Seo Yul and Go Eun Taek, who I played before on Live On. They're both characters who rationally keep their feelings at a constant temperature. Since I have some background from doing it before, I think I have the confidence to be able to perform better this time around.
Isn't it harder to keep your feelings appropriate and restrained rather than just acting expressively?
Yes, it can be that way. Although when his feelings inevitably get revealed, the viewers can just accept that "Oh, so this character feels that way," I have to subtly express these emotions through his gaze or his breathing so it's not that easy.
How was it confronting love as Seo Yul?
Seo Yul is a rational and level-headed person, but everything about him gets shaken because of his first love who made him feel that way in the past. Because of this person, it's enough for all the rules to be broken in his eyes. You can see a different charm from Seo Yul when you look at him that way.
Do you understand having this kind of strong, pure love?
I haven't experienced that sort of love yet so I can't perfectly say that I understand it, but I think love is a miraculous feeling that can make you give up everything. So even in a drama, as I explain the character of Seo Yul, I think the image of this love will definitely come across strongly.
What do you think you'll be doing after this drama ends?
It's not set in stone, but I've been thinking about going on a trip. A trip to Iceland is on my bucket list. I think I'll be able to take the next step only after giving myself a gift after over a year of hard work, so I feel like I have to go no matter what it takes. But I still don't know what's going to happen next and I don't know what sort of schedule might come up. Thinking about it, that's not a bad ending either.

Lee Jae Wook Vlive 21 June 2021
Stats
Total vlive viewers: 35675 Total likes: 2072339 Length: 1 hr 01 minute T-shirt: Unlock your life by Pars Co. https://www.parspars.com/product/unlock-your-life-rainbow-white-short-t-shirt/
He's on a diet now.
He threatened to turn off the Vlive a few times because of all the people who said they were not studying for their exams to watch it :P
He's growing out his hair now for the next project.
He had to ban requests for him to say fans' names in the middle since too many requests were pouring in for him to say their name. Don’t blame them lol.
Talking with fans
What is your next project? You should see articles about it soon Will you do more vlogs? It's difficult to do vlogs in the pandemic period since you need to wear a mask everywhere. What do you do in your free time? I eat a lot, sleep a lot, and exercise a lot. Can you donate your Jordan shoes to me? No I can't, and then launched into some anecdote about something about high school, which is unsubbed. When will you hold a fan meeting? Probably after the pandemic. "You're watching me at hagwon (cram school)? I will scold you!" And he did lol it was so cute. What do you do when you first wake up? A hot water shower, and then..? [unsubbed] Do you like overseas fans? Of course I do, I love my overseas fans. I'll come for you after the pandemic is over. Current favourite song: Recently, ‘Lost’ by Maroon 5 was released. It's the best. Will you do an online fan-sign event? That would be interesting! What's your MBTI? I haven't done it yet! Please do the MBTI! OK I will definitely do it! Can you do a bear heart? What's a bear heart? There's so much I don't know. Teleport vs being able to tell the future? This is an interesting question. I would choose to teleport. I live in the Gangnam area, and the traffic there is so bad! So I would choose 'Teleport'. (I didn't know he lived in Gangnam). Do you have a driver's license? Of course I do. Shoe size: 285mm Can you speak English? No, I can barely speak Korean well :P
-but in the middle he did say "Say hi to global fan" LOL-
Your favourite late night snack? Fried chicken, jokbal, and bossam. I spend a lot of money on food :P Would you date someone 7 years younger? 7 years younger? It's not a bad idea. I’m thankful (that someone 7 years younger likes me.) Would you date someone 7 years older? (laughs) It's a funny question. Why haven't you been seen anywhere in public? I don't go to many places, only to the gym and back to my home. Favourite snack: Goguma (sweet potato). It's sad, right? (Implying he's on a diet.) And then he randomly said he's tall but doesn't have good proportions (possibly someone asking why he exercises so much :P)
Do you like cats and dogs? I love them. I have a friend who has a shiba-inu called Chadol. It was so cute I went to his house every day to see his dog. You should eat more: You may not like me then! D: I'm studying Korean, study with me? I'm also trying to get better at Korean. Shall we do it together? (so flirty) Did you remove the mole on your neck? No, I didn't remove it. I won't remove it. What's your handphone wallpaper? It's a white wall with an orange stripe, somewhat Rothko-esque. He said he took it at his house's parking lot, and "It's pretty, isn't it?" Which celebrity friends do you have? (Playfully) 비밀 Do you like mint chocolate? I love mint chocolate. My friend told me not to declare this, and said that saying that I like it is a matter of life or death :P People say it tastes like toothpaste but it tastes nice to me! What colors do you like? Blue. Blue and dark colors. Isn't long hair uncomfortable? It is, but I will cut it one day. Your long hair looks cool: (Teasingly) I'm going to cut it soon~ Do you get along well with your elder sister?  Yes, I really like my relationship with her. Which of your characters is most like you? Lee Jang Woo from When The Weather Is Fine. (Is he that good in his studies? Lol. And then he said something about a unicorn, which I do recall seeing in the drama, I think he used "___ unicorn" to brag about himself to his younger sister :P) Jjajangmyeon vs bibimbap? This is really hard. Do I get to have soup with bibimbap? Favourite perfume: Can I say the brand? I guess it doesn't matter. Slow Dance by Byredo. It's my favourite perfume. Today's TMI: I woke up early and went to the gym. Do you ride your bike often? About 3 times a week? Oppa because of you I'm going to Chung Ang University: So you'll be my junior huh. (laughs) Oppa, can you close your left eye and point to your right cheek? (he obediently follows the prompt.. he’s really an actor lol) "You!! I almost fell for it! Gosh, my mum will pass out if she sees this." He revealed a two string bracelet on his left hand while adjusting the camera. Favourite dessert: Croffle? Croffle. I really like croffle. Current body wash: I'm using a body wash by Lush (only he says it as Lush-ee, which is just adorable.) Can you speak Japanese? I love animes but Japanese is so hard. I will study hard! When will you do a rap? I may try it one day. (I wonder if he knows about that old rap video floating around lol.) Dimples vs. Eyes: Eyes? I think he might be talking about his forehead wrinkles instead of eyes actually, so the translation is wrong. What animes do you like? He didn't answer, but said there are many animes on Netflix that he watches. Eating chimaek while watching the world cup? Eating chicken and beer sounds good but, my agency probably wouldn't like it. Can you say a line of Baek Kyung since it's been a long time? (playfully) I won't do it~ Iced americano vs. hot coffee: Iced americano. He said 'eoljuga', which roughly means 'I’ll drink iced Americano even if I freeze to death'. :P What app do you use most often? Naver? I have many things I need to look up :P Which of your parents do you resemble? Sometimes my mum, but sometimes my dad. Do you like kalguksu (knife cut noodle soup)? Yes, I love kalguksu and sujebi. Favourite ice cream flavour: Mint chocolate. (Bursts into laughter) Who do you like better - your mum or your dad: Omma. You thought I wouldn't answer, didn't you. (He has thanked only his sister and his mum in an award ceremony before lol. Poor Jaewookie appa) Oppa I'll date you: I'll reject your offer. (bursts into laughter again). Are you at the agency now? Nope. Please name the fanclub: This is hard. It (the fanclub) should go on forever, shouldn't it? Send an email to the agency. 5 year old Jaewookie vs 5 copies of Jaewook?: Of course 5 copies of Jaewook. One to exercise, one to work, one to stay at home and eat.. Do you dip or pour sauce for tangsuyuk? But, why would you pour water on fried food? I'll say dip. Jjajang vs. jjampong: That's hard! When working, jjajang. When resting, jjambong. *Nods sagely to himself* (Although he instinctively said 'jjampong' first). When moving house, jjajang. What message from fans cheered you up the most? It was this letter I got. It said "you make us happy when you're working hard, but don't work too hard." It cheered me up a lot. Soju vs. beer: Soju Cider (Sprite/lemonade) vs cola: Cola Do you eat pineapple on pizza? I think it tastes nice! Hawaiian pizzas. I also really like pineapple. Fall or spring? Fall. I really like spring too, but there are too many bugs. Small but definite happiness? (He understood the abbreviation immediately, which is sooo different from when the Running Man cast are introduced to any new lingo lol) When I bike, I don't drink any water. I have a routine; after biking, I run for about 6km, then I drink water. That water at the midpoint mark is so delicious. Oppa I like you, please scold me: Why would I scold you. I would compliment you :P Good job. Favourite boy group: BTS. They're so cool (safe answer!) Ramen vs. kimbap? Don't you eat them together? How tall are you? 187cm tall. Which variety show would you like to appear on he most? "I have never been on a variety show yet. Have you seen Kokkomu? When I watched Kokkomu I cried a lot. My tears came out like diamonds." lol. In reference to an earlier question. No idea what Kokkomu is. https://newsbeezer.com/koreaeng/kokkomu-which-was-just-popular-is-controversial-due-to-the-copying-of-the-youtube-channel/ Possibly this? Beef or pork? Pork How long have you been tall? I've always been tall. Then he gives a cheeky wink! Oppa can you go on on Knowing Bros? I'll have a hard time talking in banmal in front of all the sunbaenim. I'll do more Vlive in the future. *compromise* lol. Oppa kajimayo: If I don't leave, the staff can't leave work either :P Can you fill an hour (of Vlive?): Shall we fill an hour? Do you want to be in a play or musical? Of course I do. Plays require the best form of acting. What's the first thing you want to do when the pandemic is over? I want to go to a pork belly bbq place and eat comfortably without a mask. What's the worst part about acting? Every moment is hard. It's not an easy job. Why do you always wear 2 T-shirts? I like T-shirts but, but my sweat changes their color. I don't like that, so. Favourite overseas country? Filming Alhambra was my first time overseas. I didn't even take many photos. I want to send you T-shirts: Don't, don't! while vigorously shaking his head. (worried that his fans will spend money) What is your life movie? I really love Robin Williams. It's not my life movie, but I love the Dead Poets' Society. Did you really go to Alhambra? Back then, my role was really small, so I didn't really know what was going on, but (I did go to the palace? is what it sounds like.) Would you rather be 3m tall or have a 400mm shoe size? Wouldn't it be better to be tall? (what’s the point of having big feet?) Oppa don't go to the army: I have to go someday.. I still have a lot of time, and will work hard When will be our wedding? Am I getting married? (laughs) Pepsi or Coca cola: I like any cola. I'll go to the army for you: Andwae it will be hard! Although apparently it's not as hard as it used to be. Are your family members all as tall as you? Yes my family members are all tall too. What do you do on your free days? I'm a freelancer so I don't have free days.  How do you keep your skin looking so young? Lancome (he's now promoting Lancome). I came here right after a Lancome event. I really like Lancome. Tell me about your bracelet: I'll ask my stylist later :P When you come to Pohang I'll guide you!: I love gwamegi! (half-dried Pacific saury) Do you like to cook? I really like to cook. I love it so much even when people tell me not to cook, I will still cook. Oppa come to my school!: Which school is that? Tell me. Although I probably won't be able to read it. (cheeky smile). I'm really mean now, aren’t I. Favourite side dish? I like them all. Mokpo: Dodosolsollalasol was filmed in Mokpo. I ate aehobak jjigae (zucchini stew) there and it was amazing. Do Vlive at home? I'll figure out how to do it! I'll learn everything today. You use black and white hearts a lot on IG, what does it mean? It's the color of my tee. Just kidding, I just choose a color of heart that goes best with the photo. How much can you drink? Should I bluff? If I'm bluffing, when I drink alone at home, about 3 bottles? Just kidding, I get drunk after about 1.5 bottles (of soju). Favourite sports: Skiing, swimming, bowling. Was it hard to use a dialect in the Battle of Jangsari? Using a dialect was really hard. Can you do an IG live? I'm scared to do live - you can't make a mistake when all of you are watching. I have to be careful. Why aren't you seen in public? I answered that earlier, you are late. LOL. Your best dish? Western food? Something like risotto? Plans to film a movie? I want to but I should get offered first. Joking. Lol. I was told off for being late (the commenter above): Haha sorry.
Best fan questions/comments:
Live as a hamster or a ham forever?
Your pimples are so cute (mistranslation, she meant 'dimples'): "I have 4 dimples."
Don't smile, you'll give me a heart attack: I'm also having a heart attack seeing so many fans. I like it (that there are many fans on the vlive) but it's also scary. So cute.
Are you a microwave? You melted my heart: You're all so witty, jjinjjaru..
I'll make money. You just cook: You're so funny..

CONTENT CREATOR YEAR IN REVIEW (2020) ✨
thanks for tagging me justine @jaehwany!!!
first creation and most recent creation of 2020: my first gifset of 2020 is this gifset of lee jae wook and my most recent is this one of siwan in pink.
one of your favorite creations from 2020: i feel like i mention it every one of these tag meme but the inho & seol one
a creation you’re really proud of: this gifset of joohyuk’s hands from start up ep4. idk it just came out well.
a new style you tried this year and a gifset that uses it: this untamed + colors gifset, it came out different than the og idea in my head, but it was first time doing the bg color gifs and i liked it. it definitely took a long time.
a creation that took you forever: i do so many sets that take so long because i love doing compilation sets but maybe this one? bc i had filtered thru 40 eps. or this one. or this set of jinah & inguk for a fantasy casting.
your creation from 2020 that received the most notes: the most notes this year are mostly the untamed. the highest is jiang cheng in purple. my highest kdrama set is moonyoung, kangtae & sangtae.
a creation you think deserved more notes: so many sets ... but my all my hi bye mama sets specifically. but i made most of those sets just for me so it’s okay. ganghwa & yuri one and this one. my giset of hanyang & jiwon. this jianjian & xiao one. this the game: towards zero gifset.
a new fandom you joined and a creation you made for it: i started watching non-korean asian dramas. ive only started giffing some cdramas though. my the romance of tiger and rose set. as well as i have the untamed and go ahead sets.
a creation you made that breaks your heart: they are both of ganghwa. he is so sad but i love him so much, this one he’s having a panic attack. also ganghwa crying, it’s so sad but kyuhyung is such a great crier.
a ‘simple’ creation that you really love:  i’m glad jaewook & kangjoon got to play friends in when the weather is fine. this set.
a creation that was inspired by another one: i don’t really do that many things inspired by others .. that much. idk i tweaked my colorings after that ‘show how you color’ meme many months ago and i saw something hannah @cuddlybitch did that’s it
a favorite creation created by someone else: this hdl set from @dingyuxi, jp’s my country set, angela’s yellow start up set, all of hannah’s mpub ep sets were so pretty, i also loved all of justine’s itsay sets. ... tumblr isnt loading properly maybe i’ll update some later
some of your favorite content creators from the year: hannah @cuddlybitch, angela @mercurialhigh, sam @dingyuxi, jp @deokmis, justine @jaehwany, becca @yesdramas, anisah @lavenderbyun, layla @moonlightsdream, cam @haeyeongs, non mutuals but @mylastbraincql and @wangxiians

Who are your favourite kdrama villains and why?
Anon i love this question so much thank you!
Shin Sung Rok as Lee Hyuk in The Last Empress (2018)
Tumblr media
Just look at this adorable psycho…my one true love
I couldn’t make this list without the craziest and most dramatic villain of 2018 (and possibly all time) without Lee Hyuk. The guy was off his rockers, pulled out a gun every episode, destroyed everything around him and i enjoyed every second of it. He ended up being my favourite character simply because the good guys were a tad dull in comparison. The quirkiest villain on the list.
Kim Young Min as Do Joonyoung in My Mister (2018)
Tumblr media
A fine ass man
Ok before i get destroyed for not finishing My Mister (yes it has been over a year i’m a loser i know) but he was the most memorable. He was honestly quite despicable from what i watched but i love Kim Youngmin so much i had a hard time actually hating him. Also his role in Save Me 2 as the villain/confused broken man was excellent.
Lee Joon Hyuk as Seo Dongjae in Secret Forest (2017)
Tumblr media
We love a morally ambiguous man
He may have not been the top dog in the villainous food chain but he was definitely a scene stealer. I feel like i kept forgetting he was a bad guy because of how funny he was, but honestly he was on the fence in terms of how bad he was so that’s ok. Season 2 is going to be so sad without him *deep troubled sigh*
Kim Seo Hyung as Kim Jooyoung in SKY Castle (2019)
Tumblr media
The power those cheekbones hold is unbelievable
Probably the most manipulative and and sleek villainess on this list, Teacher Kim was the scene stealer of 2019. The way she infiltrated Yesuh’s family as well the entire neighbourhood was terrifying. Whenever she showed her crazy eyes i almost crapped myself. Although almost everyone in this damn show was bad in a way, she was the most memorable.
Kim Jae Wook as Mo Taegu in Voice (2017)
Tumblr media
*screams in long haired sleek villain enthusiast*
If you thought i was going to make this list without Mr Mo Taegu you were incredibly wrong. Everyone watching Voice had a feeling he couldn’t be good being this hot and we were right. He was such a psycho, and the way he laughed after inflicting pain on literally everyone he came in contact with gave me the heebie jeebies. He may have been iconic in Coffee Prince and the greatest lead in Her Private lead, but Mo Taegu will always be his career highlight.
Bonus:
Not an extra villain but imagine a thriller drama with Kim Jaewook and Kim Seohyung as the smoothest long haired villains (both with great cheekbones). I can’t think of a plot but i want to see it.

Extraordinary You
Tumblr media
Also known as: Suddenly July, Ha Roo Found by Chance, Suddenly One Day, A Day Found by Chance, July Found by Chance,  ‎어쩌다 발견한 하루
Air time: 2019
Episodes: 32 (but they are 30 min long and were aired in pairs)
Cast: Kim HyeYoon, Rowoon, Lee JaeWook,
Genre: Fantasy, Romance, Comedy, Manhwa
quick points about the show.
super funny
found the plot very original
you’ll want to hate a charecter but you won’t
loved the aesthetic and visuals
had me on the edge of my seat
I cried a couple of times
there’s (a kind of) reincarnation involved
based on a webtoon named July Found By Chance by Moo Ryu that you can read HERE
SYNOPSIS
As everyone knows, every prestigious highschool has their own Popular Guys Squad, and this high school has A3, which is formed by Oh Nam-Joo (Kim YoungDae), the leader, Baek Kyung (Lee JaeWook) and Lee DoHwa (Jung GunJoo). Girls want to date them and boys want to befriend them. Eun DanHo (Kim HyeYoon) is Baek Kyung fiancé, but it seems as it is a one-sided love since Baek Kyung can’t stand her.
Eun DanOh suffers from a heart disease, and when she experiences some short-term memory loss and seems as she can see the future, she confuses them as some of her syndromes. But they aren’t.
Little does she know the future she thinks she sees is in fact the storyboard of the comic their whole life is. Not only that, she also discovers she is not the main character of the comic but an extra.
The main plot of the comic is one of many clichés: poor girl – Yeo JooDa gets a scholarship to the most prestigious high school and the hot popular guy Oh NamJoo, who doesn’t care about girls, falls for her, but she is not that into him. And as always, there’s also another popular guy who likes her (love triangle enters the room), who is nicer to her, but as every cliché story, you just know they won’t end up together.
Eun DanOh’s only purpose on the comic, as an extra, is to be the one who always defies Oh NamJoo to support Yeo JooDa. But when she learns that the author has planned her heart disease to be terminal, she’ll do anything to change it.  And it may involve falling in love with who she wants and not who the writer tells her to.
OST
I liked its OST. I was always singing along. It really suits the drama and is really sweet. Here are my favourites:
My beauty by VERIVERY
A Never Ending Story By Stray Kids
(pls don’t miis their live performance)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Dk-27B5Uzg
You can listen to its OST on Spotify HERE
REVIEW
I watched the show while it was being aired and I DON’T KNOW HOW I SURVIVED NOT BEING ABLE TO WATCH IT ALL AT ONCE!
(from now on there will be spoilers)
Eun DanOh is the highlight of the whole drama. She is pure energy. Far from being that weak girl who needs a saviour and is crying all the time, she really will do anything to change her set-up. Moreover, as nobody seems to remember what actually happens between scenes whatsoever, she will start dancing and singing in the corridors, even mocking people and stamping a statue on the floor tearing it apart. She is energetic and charismatic, completely different from what the author portraits her.
What I also liked about this drama is that the main characters of the comic aren’t the main characters of the drama. And yes, bit cliché, but each story – comic and drama – has its own love triangle.
Those who gain self-awareness make fun of all the clichés the author is drawing and are really tired of them all. They might be in scene saying their lines and when it ends, the ones that are self-aware burst out laughing at how absurd the situation is.
THE UNEXPECTED HAPPENS AND THOSE CHARACTERS YOU DIDN’T EVEN THOUGHT COULD GAIN SELF-AWEARNESS, DO. It enables the show to explore even more both worlds, and you can really relate to the characters trying to figure out who they really are.
As it is all the world of a comic, there are a lot of scenes when a sudden music or spotlight appears to add dramatism, which only those who know the truth can see, which makes the scene even more ridiculous.
There is a really beautiful friendship between Eun DanOh, Haru and Lee DoHwa. And at the last episodes, I really felt sorry for Baek Kyung and part of me wanted him to be with Eun DanOh.
The cast was soooo cool. I really liked their acting even though they are rookies. I previously watched Kim HyeYoon on SKY Castle and was really amazed at how different both characters are. She did a really good job on both dramas.
I have enjoyed this drama so much that I have started reading the Webtoon. I don’t know if there are any major changes on the plot but I am enjoying it so far.
I give this Kdrama an 8/10.

My Top 10 K-Dramas of 2018 - What’s Yours?
Tumblr media
2018 is ending soon and K-Dramaland has once again brought us so many goodies this year. As per our blog’s tradition [For 2017 faves click here], below are my Top 10 favs of the year (my faves in alphabetical order so it might not be yours so please don’t judge)
My only specific criteria this year is that the show must have had started in 2018 to be considered a 2018 series (Hence, Hwayugi and I’m Not A Robot were in last year’s list and honourable mentions)
Lawless Lawyer (tvN)
Tumblr media
Every year we have a few stellar Korean legal dramas and Lawless Lawyer is one of them. Starring veterans Lee Joongi and Son Yeji, the drama details a gangster turned lawyer who used unorthodox techniques to win cases and a lawyer-childhood friend-love interest who got into trouble for attacking a judge. After his return from the military, Lee Joongi has acted in many internationally well-received dramas but “Lawless Lawyer” is the first since his return to gain massive commercial success within South Korea and becoming one of the highest viewed dramas on Korean cable channel history. Son Yeji was also able to show her acting chops and shed her pretty girl image through this drama. It is understandable why this drama did well - it was action-packed, had a well-plotted storyline and also the right laughs at the right moments. If you love an amazing legal drama, go watch Lawless Lawyer already!
Memories Of The Alhambra (tvN/Netflix)
Tumblr media
You know it’s nearing the year’s end when tvN drops another high budget and experimental drama with a star-studded cast to steal you and the critics’ hearts. This year it is Memories Of The Alhambra, which is an ambitious project jointly produced by tvN and Netflix. Following the success of jointly produced Mr. Sunshine which also made the list, the two studios teamed up for an even crazier project - instead of the guaranteed tear-jerking historical drama they went for a sci-fi/fantasy thriller exploring virtual and augmented reality and business in the digital age. You know they are taking this project seriously when they got the writer for “W” (the Lee Jongsuk and Han Hyojoo hit about the collapse of a comic book world into reality) Song Jaejung to write this screenplay. The show with top cast featuring Hallyu stars and veterans Hyun Bin, Park Shin Hye, and EXO’s Chanyeol with exhilarating graphics and filming in Grenada has been topping online and domestic Korean viewership since its broadcast on December 1st. If you enjoy creative sci-fi adventures with Asian leads, this is the drama for you!
Mr. Sunshine (tvN/Netflix)
Tumblr media
One of the first tvN and Netflix collaborations, Mr. Sunshine was an unsurprising hit starring world-famous Korean actor Lee Byung Hoon and South Korea’s favourite young actress Kim Taeri. Other main cast include skilled and popular actors like Yoo Yeonseok, Byung Yohan and Kim Minjung. Throw in the historical Joseon setting and the imminent colonisation by foreign powers, you have a recipe for an awards-sweeper and crowd-pleaser! Besides a plot that easily draws in audiences, the set designs, colour grading, music, and costumes are all phenomenal and is a feast for the senses. My only knit-picking critique is it seems unrealistic that a Korean man can rise to as high a rank as Lee Byung Hoon’s Eugene Choi character in the racist 1800s United States no matter how brilliant Eugene Choi was. But besides that, if you love a historical epic with romance and war, this is the drama you would enjoy!
Ms. Hammurabi (JTBC)
Tumblr media
This drama sees Go Ara and Song Dong Il reuniting in their father-daughter/mentor-mentee like dynamic following hit dramas Reply 1994 and Hwarang, with Go Ara being an idealistic former music student who dropped out and self-studied to become a judge, and Song Dong Il being the old geezer and life mentor who only managed to become a judge later in life. They are joined by INFINITE’s L being a by the books judge who likes Go Ara’s wholesome character. The drama is exceptionally touching, not only for its realistic depiction of life as judges in civilian law countries but also as a reflection of people chasing their dreams in different stages of their life. The drama also expertly deals with real-world issues like gender discrimination in the workplace, prejudice to marginalised groups and the issues that come with an inflexible hierarchical structure in South Korea. While there is romance between the leads, this is shown subtly and naturally, without it becoming a distraction to the engaging storyline. If you enjoy a thoughtful drama about society with great acting, this is a drama you would enjoy.
My ID is Gangnam Beauty (JTBC)
Tumblr media
Maybe I am slightly biased because I loved the webtoon but I think My ID is Gangnam Beauty is one of the best Korean rom-coms of the year. First I thought the casting was spot-on - ASTRO’s Cha Eunwoo perfectly encapsulated the cold and awkward Do Kyungseok and Im Soohyang was able to display the insecurities of Kang Mirae even after plastic surgery well. The drama does a good job of touching on Korean society’s toxic beauty visual standards - it still makes the female lead insecure even after she gets plastic surgery and she gets ridiculed before and after plastic surgery. Meanwhile second female lead Hyun Soo Ah, played by Jo Woori, also struggles as a natural beauty due to fears of people no longer liking her should she ever fall below their expectations in any way. This is a thoughtful drama that does not just demonise characters for the sake of drama but gives us lots of food for thought about why people act the way they do regarding appearances. If you like a drama that is fun and cute but also has a good message, you should check out this drama!
My Mister (tvN)
Tumblr media
There are dramas where you skip some scenes because you want to get to the main point. There are some dramas where you want every second of it. My Mister was one of those dramas you watch every second of. It was that good. While many Kdramas still having idealistic female leads who slowly get jaded and turn badass only near the end/are always protected by men and never turn badass, My Mister finally does the move of making the female poor but super resourceful, brilliant and cynical, and already super jaded to begin with. Played by top singer and actress IU, the female lead Lee Jian reverses the usual female lead tropes by slowly learning to see some good in the world and learn to dream following a life of extreme poverty and hardship. The other highlight of the drama is the male lead played by talented actor Lee Sunkyun, whose relationship with his brothers and mother, as well as his crumbling marriage with his wife provide a lot of food for thought on the meaning of family and life. By acting as a mentor of IU’s character while also being saved by IU from lots of drama unknowingly, we see two broken souls learn from each other to be better people. The drama also showcased how romance is not the only meaningful love that exists between communities. If you love an insightful slice-of-life drama with realistic intrigues, betrayals, and character development, you would love My Mister.
Radio Romance (KBS2)
Tumblr media
Honestly at this point HIGHLIGHT’s Dojoon is just nation’s drama boyfriend and he continues to pick the good scripts as we can see in Radio Romance. The drama is simple - the assistant writer played by Kim Sohyun’s radio show might get cancelled and she manages to somehow get the top radio star played by Dojoon to host her show. Shenanigans happen and romance blossoms. It is stereotypical but done well, with the right amount of twists and just knowing when it should bounce back from the laughs and side stories. If dramas are all dishes, Radio Romance is like that cheesecake that tastes sweet and light, not so filling that it will you sick. It is the dessert you would always go for to feel good. If you like to watch something that makes you feel warm inside, this is the drama for you!
Something in the Rain (JTBC)
Tumblr media
I am usually not super into “the younger dongsaeng has a romance with noona who he knows growing up all of a sudden” stories but there was something special about Something in the Rain. When I first began watching this drama, it did not feel like watching a regular Kdrama at all and more like an indie film from the West. There is a feeling of emptiness at the beginning, possibly to signify the resident noona and veteran actress Son Yejin’s unsuccessful love life. There was a lot of dialogue and cuts and it felt like watching a documentary about the lives of the characters. But it was this formatting of Something in the Rain that makes it feel so genuine. The pace of the leads building up their romance was steady and natural. Hence, it made issues they faced feel all the more real too. If you enjoy a realistic slice-of-life portrayal of romance, you would love this drama!
The Guest (OCN)
Tumblr media
When I saw the trailer I already knew this was some scary shit. Following its many successful thrillers last year, OCN decided to dive in the more horror side of a thriller in The Guest. To fit this aesthetic, the drama was broadcasted only at 11pm instead of primetime but still had massive success and rightly so. The acting by the three leads Kim Dong Wook (man who can see ghosts and the future), Kim Jaewook (the cold, exorcist priest), and Jung Eunchae (a detective who does not believe in the supernatural) is phenomenal, making their team up to catch criminal possessed by ghosts all the more exhilarating. The actors who play the possessed are also amazing, making for most of the scares in this drama. If you enjoy a mystery and the horror genre, this is the Kdrama for you!
What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim? (tvN)
Tumblr media
Being the most searched Kdrama on Google in South Korea this year, it would not make sense for What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim? not to make this list. The drama revolves around the successful but extremely narcissistic company vice chairman played by Park Seojoon and his capable no-nonsense secretary played by Park Minyoung, with the latter quitting after paying off family debts and not being in the mood to work for her annoying boss anymore. The whole process where Park Seojoon tries to retain his secretary of course blossoms into romance etc. etc. One of the reasons this drama did so well was that not only did it have a strong and capable female lead but Park Seojoon defied expectations in his role. As another Kdrama based on a webtoon, original webtoon readers felt like he was not similar to the male lead and were not sure how he would handle the role. But Park Seojoon did a fantastic job, to the point I wanted to bang my head on the table or slap his character whenever he did narcissistic shit. If you want a high-quality rom-com with some unorthodox twists, this is the drama to watch!
Honourable Mentions:
100 Days My Prince (tvN): The fourth highest-rated Korean drama in cable television history starring EXO’s D.O and Nam Jihyun, the drama details the marriage between a noblewoman on the run and a crown prince who lost his memory during a failed assassination attempt.
Tumblr media
Are You Human? (KBS2): With the actual development of AI in recent years, more Kdramas have embraced the topic of robot-human romances. Seo Kang Joon and Gong Seungyeon star in this story involving a bodyguard and the AI of a chaebol masquerading as the real chaebol who is in a coma.
Tumblr media
Still 17 (SBS): A drama involving a 30-year-old man who doesn’t want to grow up due to trauma (Yang Sejong) and a woman who wakes up after a 13-year coma so acts like a 17-year-old even though she is 30 (Shin Hyesun).
Tumblr media
Welcome to Waikiki (JTBC): A comedy-drama starring rising actors Kim Junghyun, Lee Yikyung, and Son Seungwon who run a failing guesthouse called Waikiki. Oh, and there’s a single mother and a baby in this crazy mix!
