i've been dying for a poll option ever since i saw my followers' answers to that text post from february 2022 asking people whether they pronounce beloved as "be-lov-ed" or "be-loved". many people were emphatic about only using one option, and many others use both but were not always able to articulate when they use 2 syllables vs. 3. so out of the goodness of my heart and my insatiable lust for knowledge i have gone through the notes on that post and written down some likely contenders! you're welcome!!!!

BEFORE YOU ANSWER! think about how you would pronounce beloved in the following syntactic contexts:

noun, talking directly to the beloved: hey there beloved

noun, talking about rather than to the beloved: my beloved lives in a pineapple under the sea

adjective in a noun phrase: my beloved x lives in a pineapple under the sea

verb participle: x is beloved by y

okay poll time! there are no wrong answers!! and apologies in advance if i didn't capture your truth, i only had 10 options and life is a rich tapestry!!

#oh man i could have easily come up with another 5-8 options but they cap you at 10. which is probably a good thing #one person said they say 'my be-lov-ed x' but 'my much be-loved x'. the only difference being the 'much'. couldn't fit that one on here #someone else said they use 3 syllables in a possessive noun phrase (my be-lov-ed x) but 2 if it's not possessive (the be-loved x)#one person said it depends on whether it's past or present & i wasn't exactly sure what that meant. 'x is beloved' vs. 'x was beloved'?#i also think there's likely a distinction for some people between 'x was beloved' and 'x was beloved by y' but couldn't get into that #oh and then there's 'beloved by' vs. 'beloved of'#and since some of these are syntactic distinctions and some are semantic or otherwise i'm sure there's a whole matrix of combinations #like '3-syll noun if it's a person but 2 if it's a thing. 2-syll adjective/verb participle for both people and things'#that was beyond the scope of this poll lol #but mostly why i'm so curious is because people will very emphatically say something that might not mean what they think it means #like for instance i got the impression that at least some of the people saying 'be-lov-ed when i'm talking to them‚ be-loved when i'm #talking about them' actually mean they use be-lov-ed as a noun and be-loved otherwise #and some of the people saying 'always 2 syllables' probably have exceptions that they weren't thinking of at the moment #in particular 'dearly beloved'#and i'm very curious to know if 3-syllable people still use 3 syllables in the construction 'he was beloved by all'#so i think people's answers might change when given a list of more detailed options #fun with pronunciation #prosody #my posts #also i stressed for so long about what to call beloved in the 'x is beloved by y' construction #but settled on verb participle because i think it's fairly descriptive and accurate #so hopefully that's not too confusing? like it is a verb participle but for a verb that doesn't exist anymore (other than the participle)?#and even in 'my beloved x' beloved is a verb participle being used as an adjective if you're thinking more etymologically #but a lot of people were distinguishing 'be-loved as a verb' from other forms and i assume what they meant by that was 'x is beloved'

Personally I find it really funny that based on what the twins said in the Book 2 finale re: having to tell their mom about what happened to Unalaq, it's literally canon that Unalaq's wife a) exists, b) is alive, and c) is just chilling in the Northern Water Tribe

She took one look at all the spirit fuckery her husband was getting up to and went "Well that's none of my business" and honestly I respect that

well I just spent an hour digging through my own dnd notes and social media and also almost cried because I mentioned, in passing, something justin had said about one of his NPCs and he, completely lightheartedly, was like '?? I don't remember that at all. [I mean I'm not making it up?] I think you might be making it up 😏'

i will never not find it hilarious that they completely forgot to animate patty at the very end of the final cutscene in the last three frames of the whole group

and the dub didn't even give her voiced lines when everyone was shouting they so the localization forgot about her too

#GTF Things #the loc also changed her line from “it stopped?” to “it's over?” which is awkward #bc i'm pretty sure she was referring to the blastia+spirit's power not working as they intended #i know the DE loc was really wonky and they rly just went what's a consistency tho #but it's actually very jarring for me to play the DE version bc the loc was actually relatively on point originally #and then all the additions and changes are super awkward in the loc #like flynn saying good luck out there to yuri if you sleep at the inn at aurnion... even tho he's literally in the party #you can tell they didn't actually check the original script for accuracy/consistency AT ALL #just really feels like they didn't care much about it ultimately and just shoved it out #the remake is what i have access to rn but like... the original was def better and like #as someone who did play the original numerous times it's so blatantly obvious where they changed/added stuff #esp since patty's lines outside of anything immediately directed at her own story #were almost entirely throwaway lines they stuck in there just to give her lines to make her more present #i'd say about half of flynn's added lines if not more for anything he wasn't originally part of were similar #like anything that was exactly the same except they stuck in a few extra lines for those two #and like... i love flynn but imo the DE version really didn't do him that much more justice (n-no pun intended)#and like it doesn't matter that they did plan patty originally bc ultimately she got cut #which meant making the entire story/plot without her; so adding her back in LATER is like... why did you fucking bother removing her then #they ended up having to forcefully stick her back in anyway and whatever she would've had in the first place #prob would've been better/integrated better into the story than trying to squeeze in lines wherever possible #and I say that bc her lines (and a chunk of flynn's) don't actually change anything. chars will respond the same with or without their line #like... hearts r did really great in integrating a new char into the main party #even if i usually do NOT like additions to the main cast in remakes and is usually why i don't want remakes in the first place for tales #and then you've got innocence r which just butchered everything with its additions #and vespy is right in the middle as like... why bother (for money i know but still)#also tho honestly with how little flynn is even actually playable it's still a big why bother for me #bc yeah i do love having him there and i do love the sidequest stuff with him #but the biggest difference between hearts r and the vespy remake is that they didn't really... remake it #they just stuck new things into existing unchanged content and added a little bit more and reused the base game #if the tag count is still thirty im out of tags lol i just have a lot of Feelings abt this remake
